break_v so_o as_o to_o lose_v ability_n to_o be_v able_a to_o keep_v any_o part_n of_o the_o law_n for_o ever_o i_o say_v there_o be_v this_o in_o the_o law_n more_o than_o in_o the_o gospel_n that_o upon_o any_o one_o breach_n of_o the_o law_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n the_o soul_n come_v to_o be_v so_o break_v as_o to_o loose_v all_o the_o ability_n of_o ever_o keep_v any_o part_n of_o the_o law_n again_o as_o thus_o i_o show_v you_o in_o adam_n adam_n be_v the_o head_n of_o the_o first_o covenant_n of_o work_n of_o the_o law_n now_o adam_n he_o break_v it_o in_o one_o particular_a fail_v in_o one_o particular_a of_o what_o god_n require_v of_o he_o and_o in_o break_v of_o it_o in_o that_o one_o thing_n he_o and_o all_o his_o posterity_n be_v so_o break_v that_o they_o lose_v all_o their_o ability_n of_o keep_v of_o the_o law_n for_o ever_o except_o god_n come_v and_o create_v any_o ability_n they_o have_v lose_v what_o ability_n be_v give_v at_o first_o in_o their_o creation_n so_o than_o this_o be_v a_o very_a great_a mystery_n that_o one_o by_o do_v a_o thing_n that_o be_v evil_n shall_v weaken_v the_o contrary_a habit_n that_o by_o do_v a_o thing_n that_o be_v evil_a we_o shall_v quite_o loose_v the_o habit_n that_o be_v quite_o loose_a the_o habit_n by_o one_o act_n and_o not_o only_o loose_v the_o habit_n that_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o particular_a evil_n that_o we_o do_v but_o lose_v all_o habit_n of_o all_o good_a whatsoever_o and_o that_o by_o one_o act_n now_o this_o be_v a_o thing_n above_o nature_n this_o be_v only_o by_o virtue_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n god_n make_v such_o a_o covenant_n it_o run_v upon_o such_o term_n as_o if_o adam_n do_v but_o sin_n in_o one_o thing_n he_o must_v die_v that_o be_v his_o soul_n as_o well_o as_o his_o body_n must_v die_v a_o spiritual_a death_n and_o so_o loose_a all_o habit_n of_o all_o grace_n and_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o we_o be_v by_o nature_n dead_a in_o sin_n further_o such_o be_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o law_n that_o suppose_v god_n shall_v restore_v we_o all_o to_o be_v as_o perfect_a as_o ever_o adam_n be_v in_o the_o state_n of_o innocency_n void_a of_o all_o sin_n and_o have_v the_o image_n of_o god_n perfect_a and_o then_o god_n shall_v come_v and_o put_v we_o upon_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n again_o i_o say_v if_o we_o than_o shall_v but_o fail_v in_o any_o one_o thing_n it_o will_v break_v we_o so_o as_o we_o shall_v loose_v all_o our_o ability_n to_o perform_v any_o duty_n ever_o after_o this_o be_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o law_n but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o the_o gospel_n though_o we_o sin_n against_o the_o gospel_n we_o do_v not_o present_o loose_v all_o our_o habit_n of_o grace_n but_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o difference_n that_o though_o adam_n when_o he_o sin_v against_o the_o law_n he_o lose_v all_o his_o habit_n to_o do_v any_o good_a after_o and_o that_o though_o we_o sin_n against_o the_o gospel_n yet_o we_o do_v not_o loose_v those_o habit_n that_o i_o shall_v show_v afterward_o when_o i_o shall_v come_v to_o show_v that_o the_o yoke_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v easy_a than_o that_o of_o the_o law_n and_o that_o be_v the_o four_o thing_n in_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n five_o the_o first_o thing_n be_v this_o that_o the_o law_n upon_o every_o breach_n it_o do_v take_v advantage_n against_o the_o soul_n present_o i_o say_v take_v advantage_n against_o the_o soul_n present_o and_o bind_v it_o over_o to_o death_n to_o eternal_a death_n present_o bind_v it_o over_o yea_o and_o do_v actual_o put_v it_o under_o a_o curse_n upon_o every_o breach_n instant_o it_o do_v it_o its_o true_a the_o law_n it_o may_v be_v be_v not_o present_o execute_v as_o soon_o as_o a_o sinner_n have_v break_v it_o but_o this_o be_v certain_a that_o though_o god_n do_v not_o come_v upon_o you_o as_o soon_o as_o you_o have_v break_v the_o law_n yet_o know_v that_o there_o be_v these_o three_o thing_n come_v upon_o every_o one_o that_o be_v out_o of_o chirst_n as_o soon_o as_o any_o one_o sin_n be_v commit_v there_o be_v these_o three_o thing_n come_v upon_o he_o present_o first_o he_o be_v bind_v over_o by_o god_n justice_n by_o such_o abond_n as_o have_v more_o strength_n in_o it_o then_o all_o the_o power_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n be_v able_a to_o break_v as_o a_o man_n that_o have_v do_v that_o that_o be_v evil_a it_o may_v be_v the_o law_n have_v not_o present_a execution_n upon_o he_o i_o but_o he_o be_v bind_v over_o present_o and_o not_o only_o so_o but_o in_o the_o second_o place_n the_o law_n pass_v sentence_n the_o bind_n over_o that_o be_v the_o guilt_n but_o the_o law_n pass_v sentence_n upon_o the_o sinner_n and_o condemn_v it_o the_o soul_n be_v present_o under_o the_o sentence_n of_o condemnation_n three_o the_o law_n put_v the_o sinner_n under_o a_o curse_n for_o so_o it_o be_v in_o the_o latter_a end_n of_o the_o 27._o of_o deu._n curse_a be_v every_o one_o that_o abide_v not_o in_o every_o thing_n that_o be_v write_v in_o the_o book_n of_o the_o law_n to_o do_v it_o mark_v every_o one_o that_o abide_v not_o in_o every_o thing_n he_o be_v pronounce_v accurse_a and_o that_o be_v a_o five_o particular_a six_o and_o in_o the_o six_o place_n this_o law_n require_v constant_a obedience_n also_o and_o such_o be_v the_o rigour_n of_o it_o that_o if_o you_o shall_v obey_v it_o never_o so_o much_o for_o a_o great_a part_n of_o your_o life_n if_o you_o shall_v conceive_v you_o can_v obey_v it_o perfect_o for_o a_o great_a while_n yet_o if_o at_o last_o you_o shall_v offend_v in_o any_o one_o particular_a you_o be_v cast_v for_o all_o and_o all_o that_o you_o have_v do_v before_o be_v utter_o reject_v it_o will_v take_v advantage_n be_v the_o condition_n of_o all_o that_o be_v under_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o be_v not_o this_o a_o load_n will_v not_o this_o burden_n the_o soul_n if_o so_o be_v the_o soul_n come_v to_o understand_v it_o and_o whether_o it_o understand_v it_o or_o not_o yet_o certain_o it_o be_v the_o truth_n of_o god_n seven_o a_o seven_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n be_v this_o that_o when_o once_o the_o sinner_n have_v break_v it_o the_o law_n can_v be_v satisfy_v with_o any_o obedience_n which_o may_v make_v amends_o afterward_o by_o any_o thing_n that_o the_o sinner_n can_v do_v suppose_v a_o man_n shall_v be_v never_o so_o angry_a and_o offend_v he_o that_o have_v offend_v he_o may_v make_v amends_o again_o a_o servant_n think_v though_o i_o have_v offend_v my_o master_n and_o do_v so_o many_o fault_n yet_o i_o will_v make_v amends_o for_o al._n so_o many_o people_n think_v though_o we_o have_v break_v the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o live_v a_o great_a while_n in_o sin_n and_o do_v that_o which_o be_v evil_a yet_o we_o will_v make_v amends_o again_o and_o we_o will_v give_v alm_n and_o come_v to_o church_n and_o the_o like_a these_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o many_o poor_a ignorant_a heart_n that_o do_v not_o understand_v upon_o what_o term_n they_o stand_v with_o god_n all_o the_o child_n of_o man_n stand_v before_o god_n either_o under_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n or_o under_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n one_o of_o the_o two_o now_o those_o kind_n of_o man_n that_o reason_n after_o this_o manner_n sure_o they_o be_v not_o acquaint_v with_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n they_o be_v under_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o now_o let_v they_o know_v that_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n admit_v of_o no_o such_o amends_o as_o they_o speak_v of_o but_o when_o once_o you_o have_v break_v the_o law_n all_o that_o ever_o you_o can_v do_v if_o you_o can_v live_v a_o thousand_o year_n never_o so_o strict_o or_o be_v willing_a to_o suffer_v never_o so_o much_o for_o god_n
call_v such_o a_o soul_n to_o come_v to_o he_o that_o it_o may_v have_v rest_n and_o peace_n that_o indeed_o it_o may_v have_v that_o righteousness_n that_o may_v make_v it_o stand_v with_o comfort_n before_o the_o great_a god_n and_o come_v to_o have_v eternal_a life_n at_o last_o but_o for_o our_o come_n to_o christ_n and_o our_o rest_n in_o he_o that_o belong_v to_o the_o other_o point_n thus_o much_o for_o the_o open_n of_o the_o burden_n of_o legal_a performance_n chap._n xi_o of_o the_o burden_n of_o corruption_n and_o that_o there_o be_v corruption_n in_o the_o saint_n be_v a_o burden_n 1._o of_o grief_n 2._o of_o shame_n 3._o of_o fear_n 4._o of_o care_n 5._o of_o labour_n and_o toil_n the_o next_o burden_n be_v the_o burden_n of_o the_o remain_a part_n of_o corruption_n in_o the_o saint_n those_o that_o be_v godly_a and_o have_v their_o part_n in_o christ_n and_o have_v come_v to_o christ_n already_o but_o yet_o they_o must_v come_v again_o and_o again_o that_o be_v though_o they_o be_v believer_n and_o have_v exercise_v faith_n to_o unite_v they_o to_o christ_n they_o have_v still_o remain_v in_o they_o much_o corruption_n much_o sin_n they_o must_v come_v to_o christ_n again_o to_o be_v ease_v of_o their_o corruption_n and_o still_o all_o the_o day_n of_o their_o life_n to_o be_v exercise_v of_o faith_n in_o christ_n to_o be_v ease_v of_o the_o burden_n of_o remain_a corruption_n that_o be_v in_o they_o that_o the_o corruption_n that_o yet_o remain_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n be_v a_o burden_n i_o suppose_v every_o one_o of_o you_o can_v witness_v that_o be_v godly_a there_o be_v no_o godly_a man_n or_o woman_n in_o the_o world_n but_o know_v what_o the_o meaning_n of_o this_o point_n be_v perhaps_o the_o other_o point_n of_o legal_a performance_n be_v such_o a_o point_n that_o many_o of_o you_o scarce_o understand_v what_o it_o be_v but_o because_o i_o know_v it_o be_v of_o exceed_a use_n to_o other_o though_o it_o may_v not_o be_v understand_v of_o many_o they_o must_v not_o loose_v their_o portion_n but_o there_o be_v none_o that_o have_v any_o spark_n of_o godliness_n but_o do_v and_o will_v understand_v what_o i_o mean_v and_o what_o i_o shall_v say_v in_o this_o point_n of_o the_o burden_n of_o corruption_n that_o do_v still_o remain_v in_o the_o godly_a in_o the_o best_a that_o live_v upon_o the_o earth_n and_o that_o every_o one_o acknowledge_v it_o be_v in_o every_o man_n mouth_n almost_o we_o be_v all_o sinner_n but_o now_o here_o be_v the_o difference_n between_o the_o wicked_a and_o the_o godly_a the_o wicked_a have_v sin_n enough_o in_o they_o but_o it_o be_v no_o burden_n to_o they_o but_o the_o godly_a have_v their_o sin_n to_o be_v their_o burden_n the_o remainder_n of_o sin_n though_o it_o be_v never_o so_o little_a it_o be_v a_o most_o grievous_a burden_n unto_o they_o and_o to_o these_o i_o be_o to_o speak_v out_o of_o this_o text_n yea_o christ_n himself_o speak_v to_o they_o covenant_n bring_v i_o to_o his_o son_n to_o christ_n and_o he_o have_v undertake_v to_o satisfy_v the_o law_n for_o my_o soul_n and_o so_o the_o believer_n stand_v upon_o the_o shore_n and_o praise_n god_n and_o this_o make_v he_o love_n christ_n so_o much_o the_o more_o prize_n christ_n so_o much_o the_o more_o and_o bless_v the_o name_n of_o god_n that_o ever_o he_o hear_v the_o voice_n of_o the_o gospel_n sound_v in_o his_o ear_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v not_o tedious_a and_o grievous_a to_o he_o to_o hear_v the_o dreadful_a threaten_n of_o the_o law_n he_o know_v how_o to_o make_v a_o holy_a use_n of_o they_o his_o heart_n be_v draw_v near_o to_o god_n by_o it_o as_o well_o as_o by_o the_o promise_n of_o the_o gospel_n it_o be_v a_o ill_a sign_n when_o man_n and_o woman_n can_v endure_v to_o hear_v the_o threaten_n of_o the_o law_n a_o dangerous_a sign_n that_o they_o be_v under_o those_o threaten_n if_o they_o be_v not_o under_o they_o it_o will_v not_o be_v troublesome_a to_o they_o to_o hear_v they_o but_o they_o that_o be_v deliver_v from_o they_o they_o know_v how_o to_o make_v use_n of_o they_o many_o man_n and_o woman_n will_v say_v when_o they_o hear_v of_o the_o terror_n of_o the_o law_n what_o do_v this_o but_o harden_v we_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o terror_n of_o the_o law_n do_v more_o harden_v we_o but_o if_o thou_o be_v acquaint_v with_o the_o gospel_n thou_o will_v be_v soften_v by_o hear_v of_o the_o terror_n of_o the_o law_n because_o thou_o will_v prize_v christ_n more_o and_o therefore_o believer_n must_v not_o look_v upon_o they_o as_o thing_n that_o no_o way_n concern_v they_o though_o they_o be_v not_o under_o they_o to_o be_v cast_v by_o they_o yet_o they_o do_v concern_v they_o near_o and_o therefore_o god_n will_v have_v law_n and_o the_o bondage_n under_o it_o and_o then_o the_o rest_n that_o be_v to_o be_v have_v in_o christ_n this_o will_v teach_v thou_o to_o be_v sensible_a of_o thy_o own_o wretchedness_n and_o what_o a_o condition_n thou_o be_v in_o natural_o and_o yet_o how_o to_o be_v confident_a in_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n this_o will_v teach_v thou_o how_o to_o fear_v in_o regard_n of_o what_o thou_o be_v in_o thyself_o and_o yet_o to_o rejoice_v in_o regard_n of_o what_o thou_o be_v in_o jesus_n christ_n in_o the_o rest_n thy_o soul_n have_v get_v in_o jesus_n christ_n many_o bondage_n under_o the_o law_n appear_v be_v this_o that_o it_o be_v such_o a_o law_n as_o there_o can_v be_v no_o appeal_n from_o it_o no_o nor_o no_o repeal_n of_o it_o though_o it_o be_v thus_o strict_a and_o thus_o severe_a yet_o i_o say_v there_o be_v no_o appeal_n from_o it_o nor_o no_o repeal_n of_o it_o there_o be_v many_o law_n that_o we_o may_v appeal_v from_o one_o to_o another_o or_o if_o that_o law_n be_v hard_a it_o may_v be_v call_v in_o again_o we_o can_v appeal_v from_o the_o authority_n of_o this_o law_n nor_o can_v it_o be_v repeal_v you_o will_v say_v this_o exclud_v we_o from_o all_o help_n though_o there_o be_v many_o hard_a law_n make_v by_o man_n and_o as_o long_o as_o they_o stand_v in_o force_n people_n be_v in_o a_o very_a sad_a condition_n yet_o there_o may_v be_v mean_n to_o repeal_v they_o but_o as_o for_o this_o law_n there_o can_v it_o seem_v be_v no_o appeal_n from_o it_o nor_o repeal_n of_o it_o may_v we_o not_o appeal_v from_o god_n justice_n to_o god_n mercy_n seat_n i_o have_v indeed_o speak_v of_o such_o a_o expression_n but_o that_o expession_n must_v be_v wary_o understand_v for_o the_o truth_n be_v there_o be_v no_o proper_a appeal_n from_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n to_o his_o mercy_n when_o the_o sinner_n come_v to_o christ_n it_o have_v the_o pardon_n seal_v in_o the_o court_n of_o justice_n as_o well_o as_o in_o the_o court_n of_o mercy_n there_o be_v no_o soul_n that_o be_v save_v but_o god_n justice_n be_v as_o well_o satisfy_v as_o his_o mercy_n be_v glorify_v nor_o no_o repeal_n of_o this_o law_n what_o must_v the_o law_n stand_v in_o force_n then_o yes_o the_o law_n shall_v stand_v in_o force_n and_o yet_o there_o shall_v be_v thousand_o of_o soul_n save_v how_o be_v that_o you_o will_v say_v this_o be_v the_o mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o the_o law_n shall_v stand_v in_o force_n and_o yet_o man_n shall_v be_v save_v there_o shall_v be_v a_o way_n to_o save_v man_n for_o all_o this_o certain_o if_o the_o law_n go_v on_o in_o its_o course_n one_o will_v think_v that_o it_o will_v carry_v on_o all_o mankind_n to_o eternal_a destruction_n yea_o and_o so_o it_o will_v have_v do_v but_o only_o for_o this_o great_a saviour_n and_o redeemer_n jesus_n christ_n that_o call_v sinner_n to_o he_o that_o they_o may_v have_v rest_n he_o come_v and_o put_v himself_o under_o the_o law_n and_o what_o the_o law_n require_v he_o do_v and_o he_o suffer_v so_o that_o here_o be_v all_o the_o alteration_n the_o law_n go_v on_o and_o have_v its_o course_n only_o whereas_o it_o may_v have_v require_v to_o have_v have_v the_o course_n of_o it_o upon_o ourselves_o in_o person_n now_o god_n be_v content_a that_o it_o shall_v have_v its_o course_n upon_o our_o security_n when_o a_o man_n owe_v a_o debt_n the_o law_n require_v performance_n it_o be_v one_o thing_n to_o have_v the_o law_n repeal_v and_o a_o other_o to_o have_v the_o debtor_n deliver_v if_o a_o sureâ—â—_n will_v come_v and_o undertake_v the_o debt_n he_o be_v deliver_v though_o he_o have_v not_o pay_v it_o &_o yet_o the_o law_n have_v its_o course_n for_o the_o surety_n discharge_v what_o the_o debtor_n shall_v have_v do_v so_o the_o way_n of_o salvation_n for_o any_o soul_n it_o be_v not_o either_o by_o appeal_n from_o the_o law_n or_o by_o the_o repeal_n of_o the_o law_n but_o we_o must_v look_v upon_o the_o law_n to_o have_v its_o course_n only_o to_o have_v its_o course_n upon_o christ_n our_o surety_n who_o have_v full_o satisfy_v the_o law_n and_o christ_n look_v thus_o upon_o be_v the_o true_a object_n of_o our_o faith_n and_o except_o we_o apprehend_v christ_n thus_o as_o one_o make_v under_o the_o law_n as_o the_o scripture_n say_v and_o one_o that_o do_v endure_v the_o law_n to_o have_v its_o course_n upon_o he_o and_o so_o to_o satisfy_v the_o law_n except_o we_o look_v upon_o christ_n thus_o we_o look_v not_o upon_o he_o as_o the_o right_a object_n of_o our_o faith_n and_o christ_n he_o thus_o call_v upon_o you_o that_o be_v weary_a and_o heavy_a lade_v to_o come_v to_o he_o as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v poor_a sinner_n that_o be_v under_o such_o a_o covenant_n as_o this_o be_v you_o know_v that_o though_o it_o be_v not_o repeal_v i_o have_v come_v and_o put_v myself_o under_o this_o law_n it_o have_v have_v its_o course_n upon_o i_o come_v to_o i_o and_o the_o law_n shall_v be_v sattisfy_v it_o shall_v have_v nothing_o to_o say_v against_o you_o but_o you_o shall_v have_v through_o rest_n in_o i_o come_v therefore_o to_o i_o eleven_o the_o eleven_o thing_n in_o the_o law_n be_v that_o it_o be_v so_o far_o from_o enable_v we_o to_o perform_v that_o obedience_n which_o it_o require_v that_o in_o regard_n of_o our_o own_o wretched_a condition_n that_o we_o be_v now_o in_o the_o more_o it_o come_v to_o be_v reveal_v the_o more_o be_v our_o corruption_n stir_v up_o it_o do_v through_o our_o fault_n not_o from_o any_o fault_n in_o the_o law_n stir_v up_o our_o corruption_n so_o much_o the_o more_o luther_n compare_v it_o to_o water_n cast_v upon_o lime_n the_o law_n come_v into_o the_o heart_n be_v in_o its_o natural_a condition_n till_o god_n oovercome_v it_o by_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v stir_v up_o so_o much_o the_o more_o you_o have_v a_o notable_a expression_n for_o this_o in_o the_o example_n of_o paul_n who_o feel_v it_o thus_o in_o himself_o in_o rom._n 7.5_o for_o when_o we_o be_v in_o the_o flesh_n the_o motion_n of_o sin_n which_o be_v by_o the_o law_n do_v work_v in_o our_o member_n to_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n unto_o death_n and_o again_o in_o ver_fw-la 8._o for_o sin_n take_v occasion_n by_o the_o commandment_n wrought_v in_o i_o all_o manner_n of_o concupiscence_n it_o take_v occasion_n by_o the_o commandment_n there_o be_v many_o people_n that_o be_v the_o worse_a by_o hear_v the_o law_n reveal_v unto_o they_o until_o god_n please_v to_o overcome_v their_o heart_n by_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o gospel_n now_o put_v all_o these_o together_o and_o the_o soul_n that_o come_v to_o be_v enlighten_v to_o understand_v these_o do_v you_o not_o think_v that_o such_o a_o soul_n will_v be_v burden_v be_v it_o not_o a_o burden_n to_o be_v in_o this_o condition_n be_v it_o possible_a that_o the_o soul_n can_v have_v any_o rest_n in_o this_o condition_n you_o will_v say_v these_o thing_n be_v hard_a in_o themselves_o but_o first_o if_o you_o do_v but_o understand_v the_o infinite_a holiness_n there_o be_v in_o god_n and_o the_o infinite_a justice_n of_o god_n with_o who_o you_o have_v to_o deal_v and_o if_o you_o do_v but_o understand_v the_o perfect_a condition_n that_o god_n do_v make_v man_n in_o at_o the_o first_o present_v before_o your_o soul_n the_o infinite_a holiness_n and_o justice_n of_o the_o great_a god_n with_o who_o you_o have_v to_o do_v and_o then_o present_a before_o your_o soul_n that_o perfect_a state_n that_o god_n do_v make_v man_n in_o innocency_n and_o then_o these_o thing_n will_v be_v clear_a unto_o you_o and_o if_o these_o thing_n be_v only_o preach_v to_o you_o and_o nothing_o else_o they_o will_v seem_v to_o be_v hard_o but_o it_o be_v all_o in_o order_n to_o this_o invitation_n of_o christ_n chap._n viii_o three_o conclusion_n arise_v from_o the_o former_a doctrine_n concern_v the_o burden_n under_o the_o law_n namely_o 1._o that_o man_n by_o nature_n be_v in_o a_o evil_a case_n 2._o that_o it_o be_v a_o mighty_a work_n to_o save_v a_o soul_n 3._o that_o those_o vain_a thought_n whereby_o man_n think_v to_o pacify_v their_o conscience_n will_v stand_v they_o in_o no_o stead_n now_o upon_o the_o hear_n of_o these_o thing_n we_o may_v true_o draw_v such_o conclusion_n as_o these_o first_o that_o certain_o man_n be_v in_o a_o ill_a case_n by_o nature_n it_o be_v observe_v of_o the_o people_n of_o israel_n when_o
they_o but_o they_o have_v art_n to_o make_v their_o tankard_n light_a as_o can_v be_v but_o now_o if_o they_o carry_v their_o water_n in_o tankard_n of_o lead_n though_o the_o water_n be_v no_o heavy_a yet_o this_o will_v make_v it_o more_o burdensome_a so_o sickness_n poverty_n loss_n of_o estate_n they_o be_v burdensome_a to_o all_o that_o bear_v they_o but_o yet_o the_o corruption_n of_o sin_n when_o the_o heart_n be_v corrupt_v with_o sin_n that_o be_v as_o lead_v that_o make_v it_o the_o great_a burden_n and_o therefore_o sin_n in_o the_o heart_n be_v such_o a_o thing_n as_o make_v all_o other_o thing_n burdensome_a that_o be_v burdensome_a though_o a_o man_n shall_v loose_v all_o his_o estate_n in_o one_o night_n this_o may_v be_v some_o burden_n but_o he_o that_o have_v sin_n upon_o he_o that_o make_v all_o other_o burden_n to_o be_v burdensome_a the_o five_o property_n of_o the_o burden_n of_o corruption_n five_o sin_n be_v a_o burden_n unto_o god_n himself_o much_o more_o to_o the_o saint_n god_n cry_v out_o that_o he_o be_v press_v under_o sin_n as_o a_o cart_n be_v press_v that_o be_v full_a of_o sheaf_n it_o be_v a_o burden_n to_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v say_v that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v grieve_v and_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v a_o great_a burden_n to_o thy_o soul_n when_o thou_o see_v and_o know_v it_o be_v a_o burden_n to_o thy_o father_n it_o be_v a_o burden_n to_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n whereby_o thou_o be_v seal_v to_o the_o day_n of_o redemption_n be_v it_o not_o a_o burden_n to_o the_o heart_n of_o any_o ingenious_a spirit_n when_o he_o shall_v consider_v that_o that_o which_o i_o have_v do_v be_v a_o burden_n to_o my_o father_n to_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n any_o ingenious_a child_n it_o will_v be_v a_o burden_n to_o he_o that_o he_o have_v do_v any_o thing_n against_o his_o father_n now_o so_o long_o as_o thou_o have_v any_o sin_n in_o thou_o thou_o be_v a_o burden_n to_o god_n and_o to_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n the_o six_o property_n of_o the_o burden_n of_o corruption_n six_o as_o it_o be_v a_o burden_n to_o god_n so_o it_o be_v that_o that_o make_v we_o burdensome_a unto_o all_o that_o we_o converse_v with_o all_o and_o the_o more_o corruption_n that_o remain_v in_o our_o heart_n the_o more_o burdensome_a we_o be_v to_o all_o that_o we_o converse_v withal_o some_o there_o be_v though_o true_o godly_a yet_o they_o have_v so_o much_o corruption_n in_o they_o that_o they_o be_v burdensome_a to_o all_o that_o they_o converse_v withal_o as_o in_o a_o family_n take_v those_o that_o be_v passionate_a though_o they_o have_v godliness_n lie_v at_o the_o bottom_n yet_o how_o burdensome_a be_v they_o to_o those_o that_o converse_v with_o they_o other_o they_o have_v extreme_a stout_a and_o stubborn_a spirit_n other_o have_v sullen_a heart_n extreme_a sullen_a spirit_n other_o have_v slight_a and_o vain_a spirit_n other_o proud_a and_o envious_a spirit_n and_o other_o covetous_a now_o there_o be_v reason_n they_o shall_v feel_v the_o burden_n themselves_o for_o other_o feel_v the_o burden_n when_o it_o break_v forth_o from_o they_o and_o therefore_o it_o much_o more_o aggravate_v their_o burden_n those_o that_o be_v true_o godly_a that_o be_v overcome_v with_o passion_n when_o they_o think_v thus_o oh_o what_o a_o wretched_a heart_n have_v i_o that_o i_o shall_v break_v forth_o into_o passion_n in_o such_o and_o such_o company_n oh_o what_o a_o wretch_n be_o i_o that_o i_o shall_v not_o only_o be_v burdensome_a to_o myself_o but_o to_o those_o that_o i_o converse_v withal_o i_o make_v no_o question_n but_o i_o speak_v to_o many_o that_o have_v lament_v their_o condition_n in_o this_o kind_n alone_o in_o that_o they_o have_v be_v so_o burdensome_a to_o other_o it_o be_v true_a i_o have_v be_v a_o burden_n to_o such_o and_o such_o but_o the_o lord_n know_v it_o be_v much_o more_o a_o burden_n to_o my_o own_o heart_n and_o to_o myself_o therefore_o the_o remain_a part_n of_o corruption_n be_v such_o a_o burden_n to_o the_o godly_a because_o it_o be_v a_o burden_n to_o other_o whenas_o all_o the_o people_n of_o god_n shall_v be_v useful_a in_o the_o place_n where_o they_o live_v they_o shall_v live_v so_o as_o that_o all_o that_o live_v by_o they_o and_o with_o they_o shall_v bless_v god_n for_o they_o this_o they_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o do_v to_o live_v in_o such_o a_o manner_n as_o all_o that_o come_v near_o they_o shall_v bless_v god_n that_o ever_o they_o come_v near_o or_o have_v converse_v with_o they_o the_o seven_o property_n of_o the_o burden_n of_o corruption_n seven_o this_o burden_n be_v such_o a_o burden_n as_o make_v those_o that_o be_v godly_a to_o be_v burdensome_a to_o themselves_o yea_o even_o to_o be_v weary_a of_o their_o life_n many_o time_n why_o for_o their_o corruption_n in_o they_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n more_o grievous_a than_o death_n will_v be_v to_o they_o we_o use_v to_o express_v a_o thing_n that_o be_v very_o grievous_a to_o we_o and_o say_v it_o be_v death_n to_o we_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a can_v say_v so_o of_o their_o sin_n and_o that_o be_v one_o reason_n that_o paul_n give_v that_o name_n to_o his_o sin_n a_o body_n of_o death_n oh_o wretched_a man_n that_o i_o be_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o this_o body_n of_o death_n why_o because_o the_o remain_a corruption_n that_o then_o be_v in_o his_o heart_n be_v as_o death_n to_o he_o so_o it_o be_v with_o the_o saint_n the_o corruption_n that_o remain_v in_o their_o heart_n it_o be_v death_n to_o they_o and_o they_o can_v appeal_v unto_o god_n and_o speak_v thus_o in_o his_o presence_n the_o bitterness_n of_o death_n will_v not_o be_v so_o much_o to_o i_o a_o thousand_o part_n as_o this_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o my_o heart_n oh_o this_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o my_o heart_n that_o overcome_v i_o after_o so_o many_o resolution_n so_o many_o prayer_n so_o many_o sacrament_n so_o many_o engagement_n it_o be_v that_o which_o make_v i_o weary_a of_o my_o life_n as_o rebeccah_n say_v if_o jacob_n shall_v marry_v a_o wife_n of_o the_o daughter_n of_o heth_n it_o will_v make_v her_o weary_a of_o her_o life_n so_o say_v the_o godly_a this_o remain_a corruption_n in_o my_o heart_n make_v i_o weary_a of_o my_o life_n what_o shall_v i_o do_v that_o carry_v such_o a_o body_n of_o death_n about_o i_o so_o as_o i_o do_v there_o be_v many_o man_n and_o woman_n that_o in_o a_o discontent_a mood_n say_v they_o be_v weary_a of_o their_o life_n but_o this_o be_v in_o a_o discontent_a mood_n but_o when_o can_v you_o say_v so_o in_o respect_n of_o your_o heart_n when_o do_v you_o say_v i_o look_v into_o my_o heart_n and_o i_o see_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o sin_n corruption_n worldliness_n pride_n passion_n and_o the_o like_a and_o this_o be_v that_o which_o make_v i_o weary_a of_o my_o life_n the_o truth_n be_v the_o great_a thing_n that_o make_v the_o people_n of_o god_n to_o be_v willing_a to_o die_v be_v this_o because_o they_o know_v when_o they_o die_v they_o shall_v be_v deliver_v from_o this_o burden_n and_o therefore_o when_o death_n come_v they_o entertain_v it_o willing_o because_o they_o know_v they_o shall_v sin_v against_o god_n no_o more_o there_o be_v many_o of_o you_o when_o you_o have_v live_v a_o long_a time_n in_o sickness_n and_o poverty_n and_o be_v in_o great_a strait_n many_o way_n you_o think_v if_o death_n shall_v come_v to_o i_o i_o can_v be_v willing_a to_o die_v because_o than_o i_o shall_v suffer_v no_o such_o thing_n as_o now_o i_o do_v i_o but_o that_o be_v no_o argument_n of_o grace_n but_o this_o be_v a_o argument_n of_o grace_n that_o because_o of_o the_o great_a burden_n of_o corruption_n that_o thou_o carry_v about_o in_o thy_o soul_n therefore_o thou_o will_v be_v willing_a to_o die_v the_o eight_o property_n of_o the_o burden_n of_o corruption_n eight_o sin_n be_v a_o grievous_a burden_n while_o we_o have_v it_o and_o make_v we_o weary_a of_o our_o life_n and_o yet_o it_o be_v such_o a_o burden_n as_o we_o must_v certain_o carry_v about_o with_o we_o such_o a_o body_n as_o we_o know_v we_o shall_v never_o be_v free_v from_o whole_o while_o we_o live_v in_o this_o world_n it_o be_v true_a we_o may_v be_v free_v from_o it_o in_o a_o great_a measure_n christ_n say_v come_v to_o i_o and_o you_o shall_v have_v rest_n that_o be_v some_o rest_n for_o the_o present_a and_o whole_a rest_n in_o the_o life_n to_o come_v but_o we_o can_v be_v whole_o free_v from_o this_o burden_n whilst_o we_o be_v in_o this_o world_n and_o thus_o much_o for_o the_o property_n of_o this_o burden_n what_o
that_o god_n aim_v at_o the_o execution_n of_o his_o just_a judgement_n upon_o they_o thereby_o 7._o god_n do_v it_o for_o this_o reason_n that_o the_o saint_n may_v long_o more_o after_o heaven_n therefore_o it_o be_v that_o the_o lord_n in_o the_o order_n of_o his_o providence_n work_v so_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v keep_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o corruption_n in_o this_o world_n that_o they_o may_v long_o to_o be_v in_o heaven_n with_o their_o father_n and_o that_o when_o they_o come_v to_o heaven_n they_o may_v know_v the_o difference_n between_o heaven_n and_o earth_n between_o their_o state_n there_o in_o heaven_n and_o their_o state_n here_o on_o earth_n thus_o though_o corruption_n may_v be_v a_o great_a burden_n to_o we_o while_o we_o live_v here_o in_o this_o world_n yet_o the_o lord_n have_v many_o great_a end_n and_o purpose_n to_o suffer_v thou_o a_o poor_a creature_n to_o be_v under_o remain_v corruption_n and_o therefore_o thou_o can_v not_o draw_v any_o such_o argument_n god_n love_v i_o not_o for_o if_o he_o love_v i_o he_o will_v deliver_v i_o from_o this_o corruption_n i_o have_v be_v pray_v a_o longtime_n to_o be_v deliver_v and_o yet_o i_o be_o not_o deliver_v do_v not_o gather_v any_o such_o argument_n from_o it_o you_o know_v paul_n pray_v once_o and_o again_o and_o all_o the_o answer_n he_o have_v be_v my_o grace_n shall_v be_v sufficient_a for_o thou_o so_o though_o thou_o pray_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o corruption_n again_o and_o again_o yet_o if_o once_o god_n say_v thus_o to_o thy_o soul_n my_o grace_n shall_v be_v sufficient_a for_o thou_o thy_o corruption_n shall_v not_o crush_v thou_o and_o undo_v thou_o but_o i_o will_v sstrengthen_v thou_o this_o will_v be_v sufficient_a now_o from_o all_o this_o that_o have_v be_v say_v you_o may_v by_o way_n of_o consequence_n see_v first_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o difference_n between_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o godly_a and_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o wicked_a the_o wicked_a they_o sin_n and_o the_o godly_a sin_n too_o we_o use_v to_o say_v we_o be_v all_o sinner_n but_o it_o be_v to_o the_o one_o a_o burden_n to_o the_o other_o a_o delight_n second_o you_o may_v see_v from_o hence_o also_o one_o reason_n why_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n go_v on_o sometime_o so_o sad_o in_o their_o way_n thou_o do_v not_o know_v what_o burden_n they_o be_v under_o but_o you_o will_v say_v we_o be_v better_o we_o do_v not_o feel_v it_o no_o they_o have_v not_o so_o much_o sin_n as_o thou_o have_v they_o have_v get_v some_o grace_n thou_o have_v none_o they_o have_v in_o some_o degree_n mortify_v their_o sin_n thou_o have_v not_o yea_o they_o have_v their_o sin_n pardon_v thou_o have_v not_o but_o yet_o though_o they_o have_v some_o assurance_n that_o the_o guilt_n of_o their_o sin_n be_v remove_v yet_o the_o very_a remain_v of_o the_o corruption_n of_o their_o heart_n be_v their_o burden_n object_n you_o will_v say_v why_o shall_v it_o be_v so_o burdensome_a if_o they_o know_v the_o guilt_n of_o their_o sin_n to_o be_v forgive_v answ_n i_o beseech_v you_o observe_v it_o there_o be_v a_o deal_n of_o difference_n between_o a_o carnal_a heart_n and_o a_o godly_a heart_n one_o that_o have_v a_o carnal_a heart_n if_o he_o can_v be_v ease_v from_o the_o burden_n of_o conscience_n he_o be_v no_o more_o trouble_v but_o now_o a_o gracious_a heart_n though_o still_o upon_o he_o so_o that_o the_o very_o remain_v of_o some_o corruption_n be_v a_o great_a burden_n unto_o he_o than_o all_o thy_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o the_o full_a strength_n of_o it_o and_o together_o with_o thy_o corruption_n all_o the_o guilt_n that_o be_v upon_o thou_o only_o thou_o be_v dead_a in_o sin_n and_o do_v not_o feel_v it_o if_o a_o whole_a building_n fall_v down_o day_n yet_o the_o remain_v of_o sin_n be_v a_o great_a burden_n to_o they_o and_o hence_o you_o may_v see_v the_o reason_n of_o the_o watchfulness_n of_o the_o saint_n over_o their_o spirit_n why_o receive_v god_n mercy_n from_o a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o there_o will_v be_v link_n of_o god_n mercy_n towards_o
in_o the_o 24._o verse_n o_o wretched_a man_n that_o i_o be_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o this_o body_n of_o death_n that_o be_v the_o remain_a corruption_n that_o be_v in_o his_o heart_n in_o the_o soul_n with_o the_o connexion_n of_o they_o and_o join_v one_o to_o another_o as_o the_o member_n be_v join_v in_o the_o body_n they_o come_v to_o be_v destroy_v that_o be_v though_o not_o whole_o cast_v out_o and_o radicate_v yet_o the_o roll_a power_n of_o they_o be_v take_v away_o as_o soon_o as_o ever_o the_o soul_n be_v come_v to_o christ_n the_o body_n of_o sin_n have_v a_o deadly_a stroke_n give_v to_o it_o there_o be_v many_o of_o you_o strive_v against_o this_o particular_a corruption_n sometime_o one_o and_o sometime_o another_o for_o those_o that_o be_v god_n child_n their_o heart_n be_v more_o incline_v unto_o some_o sin_n than_o other_o and_o at_o sometime_o to_o some_o particular_a sin_n more_o than_o other_o it_o may_v be_v one_o labour_n under_o the_o burden_n of_o passion_n and_o another_o of_o unbelief_n and_o another_o of_o pride_n and_o another_o of_o wantonness_n and_o divers_a particular_a corruption_n they_o be_v labour_v under_o it_o may_v be_v at_o some_o time_n you_o find_v one_o corruption_n stir_v and_o you_o strive_v against_o that_o and_o another_o time_n another_o corruption_n stir_v and_o you_o spend_v your_o strength_n against_o that_o but_o now_o here_o be_v the_o way_n to_o strike_v at_o the_o whole_a body_n of_o corruption_n at_o once_o if_o one_o shall_v go_v to_o cut_v down_o a_o tree_n and_o stand_v chap_a at_o one_o sprig_n and_o one_o branch_n and_o another_o branch_n the_o tree_n may_v stand_v long_o enough_o for_o all_o that_o but_o now_o if_o he_o will_v get_v the_o tree_n down_o he_o go_v to_o the_o root_n and_o a_o few_o blow_n get_v down_o all_o there_o so_o this_o be_v the_o wisdom_n of_o a_o christian_a that_o when_o he_o come_v to_o labour_v against_o any_o corruption_n he_o do_v not_o spend_v his_o time_n so_o much_o against_o this_o or_o that_o particular_a corruption_n but_o strike_v at_o the_o body_n of_o corruption_n and_o how_o get_v he_o strength_n against_o that_o by_o apply_v the_o blood_n of_o christ_n the_o death_n of_o christ_n by_o faith_n against_o that_o and_o by_o this_o mean_v the_o body_n of_o death_n come_v to_o be_v destroy_v and_o here_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o christian_n in_o a_o little_a time_n grow_v so_o much_o and_o get_v so_o much_o power_n against_o their_o corruption_n whereas_o other_o be_v a_o long_a time_n before_o they_o get_v any_o power_n at_o all_o those_o that_o be_v not_o acquaint_v with_o the_o way_n of_o christ_n you_o shall_v have_v one_o that_o have_v be_v a_o notorious_a wretch_n a_o wicked_a person_n a_o swearer_n a_o sabbath-breaker_n if_o it_o please_v god_n to_o bring_v he_o to_o the_o word_n and_o reveal_v christ_n to_o the_o soul_n you_o shall_v have_v a_o mighty_a change_n in_o this_o man_n in_o keep_v from_o the_o act_n of_o sin_n so_o much_o as_o to_o find_v that_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n be_v apply_v to_o he_o and_o hence_o you_o never_o read_v of_o any_o such_o thing_n as_o mortification_n in_o any_o heathen_a author_n in_o the_o world_n the_o mortification_n of_o corruption_n be_v a_o riddle_n to_o all_o heathen_a writer_n in_o the_o world_n the_o mortify_n of_o crucify_a of_o a_o christ_n shed_v his_o blood_n for_o sin_n this_o have_v a_o virtue_n to_o mortify_v sin_n there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o difference_n between_o a_o mortify_a lust_n and_o a_o restrain_a lust_n a_o mortify_a sin_n and_o a_o restrain_a sin_n the_o difference_n lie_v in_o this_o one_o thing_n for_o i_o must_v not_o go_v out_o to_o handle_v the_o point_n but_o only_o this_o one_o thing_n take_v it_o by_o the_o way_n when_o a_o lust_n be_v mortify_v there_o be_v not_o only_o a_o cease_n from_o the_o act_n of_o it_o but_o there_o be_v now_o a_o unsuitableness_n between_o the_o heart_n and_o the_o sin_n whereas_o there_o may_v be_v much_o restraint_n of_o sin_n and_o yet_o still_o there_o may_v remain_v a_o suitableness_n between_o the_o disposition_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o the_o sin_n only_o they_o dare_v not_o commit_v it_o but_o when_o sin_n be_v mortify_v the_o heart_n be_v so_o change_v that_o there_o be_v a_o unsuitableness_n wrought_v between_o the_o degree_n upon_o other_o but_o every_o soul_n be_v in_o some_o measure_n in_o some_o degree_n or_o other_o give_v up_o to_o the_o lust_n of_o its_o own_o heart_n there_o be_v a_o final_a degree_n of_o give_v the_o soul_n up_o to_o the_o lust_n of_o its_o own_o heart_n sometime_o but_o there_o be_v in_o every_o one_o a_o measure_n a_o degree_n of_o this_o and_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o prevail_a of_o the_o corruption_n of_o man_n heart_n may_v appear_v in_o some_o measure_n by_o this_o it_o be_v strange_a to_o see_v that_o notwithstanding_o all_o the_o conviction_n of_o conscience_n &_o tell_v man_n of_o the_o dangerousness_n of_o their_o way_n that_o it_o will_v never_o be_v peace_n in_o the_o end_n that_o they_o will_v rue_v it_o at_o the_o last_o and_o their_o conscience_n give_v they_o many_o a_o secret_a nip_n yet_o they_o go_v on_o still_o notwithstanding_o the_o terror_n in_o the_o law_n many_o time_n nay_o notwithstanding_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n have_v be_v strong_a upon_o they_o and_o they_o have_v cry_v out_o against_o their_o sin_n and_o promise_v against_o they_o and_o notwithstanding_o that_o they_o find_v that_o their_o sin_n do_v destroy_v the_o very_a health_n of_o their_o body_n waste_v their_o estate_n take_v away_o their_o good_a name_n and_o thereby_o loose_a all_o their_o friend_n yet_o they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o overcome_v it_o as_o the_o spiritual_a curse_n that_o be_v upon_o their_o soul_n because_o the_o curse_n of_o god_n be_v in_o a_o high_a degree_n upon_o their_o heart_n give_v they_o up_o in_o just_a judgement_n unto_o the_o lust_n of_o their_o own_o heart_n and_o this_o i_o take_v in_o some_o part_n to_o be_v the_o meaning_n of_o that_o place_n in_o 1._o cor._n 15.56_o verse_n the_o strength_n of_o sin_n be_v the_o law_n now_o spiritual_o the_o meaning_n of_o it_o be_v this_o that_o all_o the_o strength_n that_o sin_n have_v to_o condemn_v one_o to_o kill_v one_o to_o bring_v death_n it_o be_v by_o the_o law_n that_o i_o take_v to_o be_v the_o special_a scope_n of_o those_o word_n but_o there_o be_v include_v likewise_o in_o that_o expression_n thus_o much_o that_o the_o law_n of_o god_n give_v a_o strength_n to_o to_o have_v so_o much_o sin_n convey_v to_o we_o by_o adam_n by_o propagation_n but_o thus_o as_o we_o may_v read_v in_o rom._n 5._o by_o one_o man_n sin_n come_v into_o the_o world_n now_o adam_n he_o be_v the_o head_n of_o the_o first_o covenant_n and_o by_o be_v the_o head_n of_o that_o all_o mankind_n be_v look_v upon_o as_o member_n of_o the_o first_o adam_n he_o be_v the_o head_n in_o by_o virtue_n of_o our_o mystical_a union_n with_o christ_n our_o head_n there_o be_v convey_v holiness_n and_o grace_n to_o strengthen_v we_o against_o our_o corruption_n as_o the_o ointment_n do_v he_o mean_v by_o the_o law_n of_o sin_n and_o death_n the_o law_n that_o be_v the_o mighty_a power_n that_o there_o be_v in_o sin_n and_o so_o in_o death_n that_o come_v by_o sin_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o unbeliever_n there_o be_v a_o law_n of_o sin_n the_o strength_n of_o sin_n i_o speak_v of_o sin_n have_v strength_n go_v along_o with_o it_o have_v power_n with_o it_o so_o a_o law_n of_o sin_n there_o be_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n they_o be_v compel_v to_o sin_n as_o i_o may_v so_o speak_v as_o a_o man_n be_v compel_v to_o a_o thing_n by_o a_o law_n a_o law_n of_o sin_n though_o this_o be_v no_o excuse_n to_o they_o and_o let_v they_o know_v that_o so_o far_o as_o they_o be_v compel_v to_o sin_n they_o be_v compel_v to_o death_n to_o but_o how_o shall_v this_o law_n of_o sin_n and_o death_n be_v overcome_v mark_v the_o word_n the_o law_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n in_o christ_n have_v make_v i_o free_a from_o the_o law_n of_o sin_n and_o death_n the_o law_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n here_o be_v two_o gradation_n that_o be_v the_o holiness_n that_o be_v in_o christ_n that_o be_v likewise_o a_o law_n as_o well_o as_o the_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o the_o heart_n the_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n have_v a_o strength_n in_o it_o and_o the_o holiness_n of_o christ_n have_v a_o strength_n in_o it_o too_o so_o that_o when_o grace_n come_v into_o the_o heart_n the_o heart_n go_v on_o in_o a_o way_n of_o holiness_n in_o a_o holy_a kind_n of_o necessity_n we_o can_v do_v nothing_o against_o the_o truth_n say_v the_o apostle_n but_o yet_o there_o be_v a_o necessity_n of_o willingness_n go_v along_o with_o it_o too_o there_o be_v a_o law_n of_o love_n and_o kindness_n but_o by_o this_o word_n of_o law_n be_v mean_v a_o strong_a impetuousness_n a_o mighty_a power_n that_o carry_v the_o soul_n on_o to_o holiness_n again_o second_o it_o be_v the_o law_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o of_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n the_o holiness_n of_o christ_n it_o be_v a_o holiness_n that_o be_v full_a of_o life_n first_o it_o be_v life_n and_o second_o it_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o life_n now_o the_o spiriâ—_n of_o life_n be_v a_o high_a degree_n than_o life_n as_o the_o spirit_n of_o a_o thing_n have_v the_o quicken_a of_o the_o thing_n in_o it_o beyond_o what_o the_o whole_a bulk_n of_o the_o thing_n be_v when_o the_o spirit_n of_o herb_n or_o any_o such_o thing_n be_v extract_v you_o know_v those_o spirit_n have_v much_o quicken_n in_o they_o beyond_o the_o thing_n themselves_o so_o the_o spirit_n will_v express_v the_o mighty_a activity_n in_o the_o holiness_n that_o come_v from_o christ_n it_o be_v life_n it_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o life_n and_o then_o it_o be_v the_o law_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n oh_o my_o brethren_n you_o see_v then_o here_o that_o godliness_n be_v no_o dull_a thing_n it_o be_v no_o heavy_a thing_n no_o poor_a weak_a contemptible_a thing_n but_o it_o be_v the_o life_n &_o it_o be_v the_o life_n of_o christ_n &_o it_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o life_n and_o it_o be_v the_o law_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n he_o speak_v of_o grace_n when_o it_o come_v to_o that_o as_o the_o law_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o lie_v in_o another_o way_n than_o you_o think_v of_o for_o you_o think_v it_o must_v come_v from_o god_n i_o but_o it_o must_v come_v from_o god_n in_o a_o mystical_a way_n through_o christ_n perhaps_o some_o of_o you_o hear_v the_o mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n understand_v this_o that_o as_o god_n be_v the_o fountain_n of_o all_o grace_n so_o it_o must_v be_v convey_v by_o christ_n as_o through_o the_o cistern_n i_o but_o you_o must_v understand_v also_o that_o you_o must_v have_v it_o from_o god_n through_o christ_n as_o he_o be_v a_o head_n unto_o you_o and_o you_o be_v the_o member_n through_o a_o mystical_a union_n that_o your_o soul_n must_v have_v with_o christ_n so_o as_o you_o be_v make_v one_o with_o christ_n you_o must_v be_v make_v one_o with_o christ_n as_o the_o member_n can_v never_o receive_v any_o spirit_n from_o the_o head_n except_o it_o be_v unite_v to_o the_o body_n it_o be_v not_o by_o be_v tie_v to_o the_o body_n if_o you_o take_v a_o arm_n of_o flesh_n and_o tie_v it_o to_o a_o man_n shoulder_n it_o will_v never_o receive_v life_n that_o way_n but_o it_o must_v have_v a_o natural_a union_n just_o thus_o your_o common_a professor_n that_o mere_o have_v the_o name_n of_o christian_n and_o be_v not_o spiritual_o unite_v to_o christ_n they_o be_v like_a to_o arm_n tiâ—d_v on_o to_o the_o shoulder_n or_o to_o wooden_a leg_n that_o be_v holiness_n now_o for_o the_o last_o thing_n that_o i_o propound_v to_o exhort_v and_o draw_v believer_n to_o come_v to_o christ_n and_o in_o this_o i_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o take_v away_o the_o many_o hindrance_n of_o the_o soul_n in_o come_v to_o christ_n for_o sanctification_n and_o also_o give_v some_o encouragement_n to_o the_o heart_n to_o come_v to_o christ_n for_o sanctification_n you_o see_v here_o be_v the_o way_n to_o get_v power_n over_o corruption_n and_o to_o get_v grace_n namely_o to_o come_v to_o christ_n yea_o say_v you_o if_o i_o know_v i_o be_v a_o member_n of_o christ_n and_o have_v interest_n in_o christ_n then_o i_o can_v come_v to_o christ_n for_o power_n over_o my_o corruption_n and_o for_o grace_n but_o i_o be_o afraid_a i_o have_v no_o interest_n in_o he_o 1._o for_o answer_v to_o that_o which_o be_v the_o main_a stop_n and_o hindrance_n of_o faith_n know_v that_o if_o thou_o have_v but_o a_o heart_n to_o come_v to_o he_o for_o grace_n that_o be_v as_o good_a a_o sign_n of_o thy_o interest_n in_o christ_n as_o any_o sign_n thou_o have_v that_o be_v as_o good_a a_o sign_n of_o evidence_n of_o interest_n as_o any_o thou_o can_v expect_v 2._o you_o must_v come_v to_o he_o for_o grace_n and_o if_o thou_o have_v not_o interest_n before_o yet_o thy_o very_a come_n to_o he_o now_o for_o grace_n to_o help_v thou_o against_o corruption_n that_o very_a act_n of_o thou_o may_v give_v thou_o interest_n in_o christ_n what_o be_v it_o that_o unite_v thou_o to_o christ_n what_o be_v it_o that_o make_v a_o member_n of_o christ_n what_o be_v it_o that_o give_v interest_n in_o christ_n it_o be_v but_o the_o come_n to_o he_o as_o you_o hear_v before_o in_o the_o point_n quest_n be_v you_o will_v say_v if_o i_o have_v a_o right_a to_o he_o if_o thou_o come_v now_o to_o christ_n to_o get_v power_n over_o thy_o corruption_n and_o to_o get_v grace_n i_o say_v though_o thou_o have_v no_o interest_n before_o this_o very_a act_n may_v give_v thou_o interest_n in_o christ_n and_o therefore_o be_v not_o discourage_v but_o come_v to_o christ_n 3._o will_v thou_o stay_v till_o thou_o do_v find_v power_n against_o thy_o corruption_n before_o thou_o will_v come_v to_o he_o than_o thou_o will_v never_o have_v power_n against_o thy_o corruption_n for_o you_o have_v hear_v that_o it_o be_v christ_n that_o be_v the_o foundation_n of_o thy_o sanctification_n and_o then_o for_o encouragement_n there_o be_v a_o great_a many_o excellent_a encouragement_n for_o poor_a sinner_n to_o come_v unto_o christ_n first_o the_o consideration_n of_o the_o near_a union_n that_o there_o be_v between_o christ_n and_o we_o in_o regard_n of_o his_o very_a humane_a nature_n that_o place_n in_o heb._n 2.11_o be_v a_o very_a notable_a scripture_n for_o consider_v that_o if_o christ_n do_v love_v thou_o so_o dear_o as_o to_o lay_v down_o his_o life_n for_o thou_o sure_o he_o will_v never_o suffer_v thou_o to_o perish_v in_o thy_o corruption_n shall_v christ_n come_v down_o from_o heaven_n and_o lay_v down_o his_o life_n for_o poor_a soul_n and_o shall_v he_o suffer_v they_o to_o die_v under_o their_o corruption_n now_o if_o a_o many_o shall_v be_v willing_a to_o lay_v down_o his_o life_n for_o a_o child_n and_o he_o shall_v come_v and_o see_v the_o child_n lie_v in_o the_o dirt_n ready_a to_o be_v stifle_v in_o the_o dirt_n can_v he_o go_v by_o and_o not_o regard_v the_o child_n this_o be_v our_o case_n christ_n have_v come_v and_o lay_v down_o his_o life_n for_o poor_a sinner_n but_o yet_o they_o see_v themselves_o ready_a to_o be_v stifle_v by_o their_o corruption_n and_o they_o cry_v to_o he_o for_o help_v sure_o christ_n will_v not_o pass_v by_o and_o let_v thou_o lie_v in_o thy_o filthiness_n to_o be_v stifle_v in_o thy_o corruption_n when_o thou_o be_v so_o dear_a to_o he_o as_o to_o lay_v down_o his_o life_n for_o thou_o three_o another_o encouragement_n be_v this_o know_v that_o thy_o corruption_n be_v the_o burden_n of_o christ_n as_o well_o as_o thy_o burden_n they_o be_v burden_n to_o thy_o soul_n and_o burden_n to_o jesus_n christ_n and_o therefore_o he_o do_v certain_o pity_v thou_o under_o they_o burden_n of_o be_v tempt_v unto_o sin_n and_o christ_n know_v that_o thy_o burden_n be_v great_a than_o his_o burden_n be_v and_o that_o it_o be_v more_o to_o be_v overcome_v then_o to_o be_v tempt_v to_o sin_n and_o therefore_o he_o know_v how_o to_o pity_v thou_o six_o know_v it_o be_v to_o the_o honour_n of_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n the_o resurrection_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n to_o help_v thou_o against_o thy_o corruption_n and_o quicken_v thou_o in_o grace_n christ_n account_v his_o resurrection_n and_o life_n to_o be_v honour_v when_o he_o see_v the_o virtue_n and_o power_n of_o it_o to_o be_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o believer_n wherefore_o then_o if_o it_o be_v to_o the_o honour_n of_o the_o death_n and_o resurrection_n and_o life_n of_o christ_n it_o may_v be_v encouragement_n to_o thou_o to_o go_v to_o he_o for_o help_v against_o thy_o corruption_n and_o this_o remember_v when_o thou_o be_v upon_o duty_n and_o beg_v for_o help_v against_o thy_o corruption_n carry_v this_o rule_n with_o thou_o i_o come_v to_o pray_v against_o my_o sin_n but_o together_o with_o my_o prayer_n let_v i_o act_v my_o faith_n i_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n i_o but_o together_o with_o my_o hear_n let_v i_o act_v my_o faith_n upon_o christ_n as_o mediator_n to_o help_v i_o against_o my_o corruption_n i_o come_v to_o the_o sacrament_n but_o i_o come_v to_o have_v communion_n with_o christ_n to_o help_v i_o against_o my_o corruption_n oh_o act_n thy_o faith_n in_o the_o promise_n of_o the_o gospel_n through_o the_o bless_a covenant_n and_o thou_o shall_v find_v abundance_n of_o strength_n against_o thy_o corruption_n and_o rest_v unto_o thy_o soul_n chap._n xliii_o contain_v the_o conclusion_n of_o the_o former_a doctrine_n of_o sanctification_n with_o divers_a direction_n how_o to_o come_v to_o christ_n for_o holiness_n i._o be_v sensible_a of_o the_o want_n of_o it_o ii_o be_v not_o satisfy_v with_o the_o ordinance_n further_o than_o you_o rest_n of_o sanctification_n for_o holiness_n for_o the_o truth_n be_v there_o be_v no_o true_a holiness_n but_o that_o which_o we_o have_v by_o our_o come_n to_o christ_n
