evident_a than_o that_o any_o particular_a decision_n of_o the_o church_n do_v seem_v to_o they_o evident_o contradictory_n to_o scripture_n this_o be_v the_o task_n of_o catholic_n especial_o catholic_n missionary_n now_o though_o when_o it_o be_v say_v the_o church_n be_v infallible_a this_o be_v common_o understand_v of_o all_o the_o whole_a church_n in_o general_a yet_o when_o we_o say_v she_o be_v a_o infallible_a guide_n it_o be_v most_o ordinary_o understand_v of_o the_o church_n speak_v by_o some_o authorise_a person_n or_o person_n represent_v the_o whole_a body_n 7._o about_o this_o representative_a there_o be_v diversity_n of_o opinion_n among_o catholic_n some_o say_v the_o pope_n alone_o do_v sufficient_o represent_v the_o church_n as_o a_o guide_n infallible_a other_o a_o general_n council_n though_o without_o the_o pope_n other_o a_o general_n council_n convoke_v preside_v in_o and_o confirm_v by_o the_o pope_n gerson_n and_o last_o other_o as_o learned_a fa_n bacon_n acknowledge_v add_v further_o this_o condition_n that_o the_o decision_n of_o such_o a_o council_n be_v accept_v and_o submit_v to_o by_o the_o whole_a church_n all_o that_o hold_v any_o of_o these_o opinion_n be_v universal_o esteem_v good_a catholic_n and_o i_o will_v to_o god_n all_o protestant_n have_v so_o much_o humility_n as_o to_o subdue_v their_o own_o private_a reason_n to_o the_o large_a of_o they_o and_o for_o catholic_n this_o i_o may_v confident_o say_v that_o they_o who_o without_o betray_v the_o truth_n make_v the_o way_n to_o the_o church_n easy_a and_o plain_a have_v most_o charity_n and_o faith_n enough_o the_o other_o may_v have_v more_o faith_n i_o will_v they_o have_v more_o charity_n too_o true_o to_o my_o understanding_n there_o be_v some_o inhumanity_n in_o urge_v protestant_n to_o more_o than_o catholic_n will_v be_v oblige_v to_o or_o to_o think_v that_o to_o protestant_n prepossess_v with_o passion_n and_o partiality_n that_o can_v be_v make_v evident_a which_o be_v so_o far_o from_o be_v evident_a to_o some_o catholic_n that_o they_o renounce_v it_o since_o all_o change_n therefore_o proceed_v by_o degree_n in_o the_o name_n of_o god_n let_v it_o not_o be_v expect_v from_o protestant_n that_o they_o shall_v with_o one_o leap_n mount_v to_o the_o utmost_a verge_n and_o extent_n of_o all_o doctrine_n hold_v by_o catholic_n that_o they_o shall_v at_o one_o gulp_n swallow_v both_o all_o catholic_a doctrine_n and_o all_o theological_a dogme_n be_v it_o grant_v therefore_o that_o it_o be_v true_a that_o the_o pope_n be_v infallible_a i_o will_v believe_v it_o as_o a_o theological_a truth_n but_o since_o neither_o the_o church_n nor_o the_o pope_n himself_o have_v tell_v we_o so_o i_o can_v if_o i_o will_v believe_v it_o as_o a_o catholic_n doctrine_n what_o therefore_o have_v i_o to_o do_v to_o dispute_v of_o it_o to_o protestant_n who_o my_o duty_n be_v only_o to_o persuade_v to_o the_o belief_n of_o the_o church_n doctrine_n what_o pity_n be_v it_o that_o they_o must_v be_v delay_v and_o as_o it_o be_v keep_v out_o of_o the_o church_n till_o all_o objection_n that_o they_o can_v make_v and_o be_v furnish_v even_o from_o catholic_n themselves_o to_o make_v against_o this_o position_n be_v answer_v or_o all_o advantage_n that_o they_o can_v advise_v against_o any_o bull_n or_o decretal_n be_v clear_v to_o their_o satisfaction_n 8._o therefore_o i_o be_v engage_v to_o make_v good_a to_o i._o p._n that_o the_o church_n speak_v by_o a_o representative_a be_v a_o infallible_a guide_n will_v fain_o choose_v that_o representative_a which_o be_v qualify_v with_o all_o the_o condition_n allow_v by_o any_o uncensured_a catholic_n to_o make_v it_o most_o easy_a and_o most_o acceptable_a to_o protestant_n which_o be_v a_o general_a council_n confirm_v etc._n etc._n by_o the_o pope_n and_o accept_v by_o the_o church_n but_o yet_o i_o will_v abstract_n from_o this_o last_o clause_n of_o be_v accept_v
of_o sacrilege_n be_v the_o ordinary_a and_o almost_o necessary_a attendant_n of_o schism_n and_o heresy_n that_o great_a patriarch_n of_o both_o calvin_n will_v not_o vouchsafe_v to_o impart_v his_o skill_n in_o these_o two_o quality_n to_o they_o of_o geneva_n till_o they_o have_v by_o a_o solemn_a public_a oath_n oblige_v themselves_o indispensible_o to_o embrace_v whatsoever_o doctrine_n he_o shall_v establish_v among_o they_o and_o till_o they_o have_v charge_v a_o curse_n upon_o themselves_o and_o their_o posterity_n for_o ever_o if_o afterward_o they_o do_v repent_v themselves_o of_o that_o perjury_n and_o rebellion_n against_o their_o lawful_a prince_n and_o bishop_n 2._o concern_v england_n the_o poor_a subject_n there_o ever_o since_o schism_n and_o heresy_n find_v entrance_n have_v be_v as_o of_o course_n accustom_v to_o be_v constrain_v to_o forswear_v themselves_o by_o public_a order_n and_o in_o a_o most_o solemn_a fashion_n whensoever_o either_o the_o lust_n or_o interest_n of_o their_o prince_n have_v move_v they_o to_o introduce_v any_o novelty_n among_o they_o first_o henry_n the_o eight_z without_o give_v his_o subject_n leave_v or_o space_n to_o study_v the_o point_n of_o controversy_n which_o yet_o indeed_o be_v then_o no_o controversy_n at_o all_o with_o force_a consent_n of_o his_o parliament_n constrain_v they_o general_o to_o renounce_v one_o article_n of_o that_o faith_n namely_o obedience_n to_o the_o visible_a universal_a pastor_n of_o the_o catholic_a church_n wherein_o they_o and_o their_o ancestor_n for_o many_o age_n have_v be_v breed_v a_o doctrine_n introduce_v and_o general_o embrace_v there_o ever_o since_o the_o nation_n be_v convert_v from_o heathenism_n by_o their_o glorious_a apostle_n s._n augustine_n the_o and_o the_o great-one_n allure_v by_o partake_v in_o the_o spoil_n of_o sacrilege_n 3._o after_o his_o death_n those_o sacrilegious_a person_n who_o govern_v the_o kingdom_n during_o the_o reign_n and_o minority_n of_o his_o son_n cause_v the_o parliament_n a_o second_o time_n to_o impose_v upon_o the_o whole_a nation_n a_o yet_o great_a perjury_n namely_o entire_o to_o swear_v away_o a_o great_a part_n of_o that_o faith_n which_o make_v they_o christian_n and_o though_o they_o willing_o repent_v their_o former_a perjury_n and_o impiety_n return_v to_o their_o ancient_a belief_n and_o obedience_n during_o the_o short_a reign_n of_o that_o catholic_a princess_n q._n marry_o yet_o the_o interest_n of_o her_o sister_n &_o successor_n q_o elizabeth_n prevail_v so_o far_o as_o to_o make_v they_o repent_v their_o repentance_n and_o to_o swear_v over_o again_o all_o their_o former_a perjury_n her_o cunning_a counselor_n by_o all_o unlawful_a way_n of_o violence_n and_o allurement_n surprise_v the_o parliament_n corrupt_v the_o clergy_n and_o violence_v the_o conscience_n of_o the_o subject_n and_o so_o contrive_v their_o design_n as_o that_o they_o confident_o imagine_v that_o schism_n and_o heresy_n be_v establish_v in_o england_n irremoveable_o be_v settle_v by_o a_o law_n as_o irrevocable_a as_o that_o of_o the_o mede_n and_o persian_n 4._o but_o in_o vain_a for_o schism_n and_o heresy_n want_v firm_a and_o real_a foundation_n and_o be_v build_v only_o upon_o secular_a interest_n when_o those_o interest_n come_v to_o fail_v as_o all_o worldly_a thing_n must_v in_o time_n natural_o sink_v lower_v and_o low_a into_o that_o gulf_n which_o have_v no_o bottom_n for_o it_o be_v remarkable_a that_o heresy_n be_v the_o ruin_n of_o faith_n as_o schism_n be_v of_o charity_n all_o change_n that_o be_v make_v in_o they_o be_v still_o to_o the_o worse_o faith_n be_v continual_o more_o and_o more_o undetermined_a and_o charity_n more_o and_o more_o cry_v down_o and_o make_v unlawful_a a_o fearful_a example_n of_o this_o have_v be_v represent_v to_o the_o world_n in_o this_o late_a schism_n in_o england_n from_o a_o former_a schism_n for_o heretofore_o the_o english_a protestant_n pretend_v that_o by_o their_o separation_n from_o the_o catholic_a church_n there_o be_v make_v a_o rent_n only_o in_o the_o semelesse_a garment_n of_o christ_n but_o yet_o so_o that_o the_o part_n hang_v together_o still_o allow_v the_o catholic_a church_n to_o be_v a_o true_a church_n of_o christ_n but_o prefer_v their_o part_n of_o it_o as_o better_v cleanse_v and_o wash_v than_o the_o other_o but_o now_o christ_n garment_n be_v tear_v by_o they_o into_o i_o know_v not_o how_o many_o rag_n all_o pluck_v entire_o from_o one_o another_o and_o this_o with_o such_o violence_n and_o injusitice_n as_o mahomet_n himself_o will_v have_v abhor_v 5._o but_o to_o return_v to_o perjury_n a_o most_o useful_a and_o necessary_a engine_n in_o schism_n certain_o never_a any_o carthaginian_a or_o barbarian_a have_v give_v such_o prodigious_a example_n as_o the_o presbyterian_a calvinist_n for_o person_n who_o make_v it_o a_o foundation_n of_o their_o sect_n to_o acknowledge_v a_o private_a spirit_n to_o be_v the_o only_a judge_n of_o scripture_n and_o point_n of_o religion_n renounce_v all_o external_a ecclesiastical_a authority_n as_o to_o such_o a_o purpose_n for_o such_o man_n i_o say_v to_o force_v other_o man_n without_o any_o new_a information_n or_o instruction_n to_o forswear_v whatsoever_o the_o law_n of_o god_n as_o the_o new_a covenant_n for_o if_o his_o meaning_n be_v that_o only_o those_o thing_n be_v necessary_a to_o be_v believe_v explicit_o which_o be_v essential_a substantial_a part_n of_o the_o new_a the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v it_o not_o then_o necessary_a to_o salvation_n to_o believe_v it_o i_o will_v answer_v again_o as_o both_o of_o we_o shall_v do_v yes_o without_o any_o question_n the_o
