pre-existent_a matter_n but_o as_o our_o progenitor_n who_o derive_v a_o be_v to_o we_o by_o communication_n out_o of_o himself_o and_o therefore_o can_v give_v we_o no_o better_o than_o he_o have_v himself_o either_o qualitative_o or_o relative_o and_o therefore_o be_v a_o son_n of_o death_n he_o can_v not_o beget_v son_n of_o life_n be_v guilty_a he_o can_v not_o beget_v person_n that_o be_v innocent_a nor_o bring_v a_o clean_a thing_n from_o himself_o who_o be_v unclean_a prop._n 17._o this_o natural_a interest_n in_o the_o guilt_n of_o progenitor_n be_v only_o from_o those_o sin_n which_o they_o commit_v while_o we_o be_v in_o their_o loin_n or_o seminal_o in_o they_o and_o not_o from_o any_o that_o they_o commit_v after_o we_o be_v bear_v but_o the_o reputative_a guilt_n which_o we_o have_v from_o the_o sin_n of_o society_n whereof_o we_o be_v natural_o or_o elective_o member_n may_v befall_v we_o as_o much_o and_o rather_o from_o the_o sin_n which_o they_o commit_v when_o we_o be_v at_o age_n and_o have_v the_o full_a use_n of_o reason_n therefore_o all_o man_n shall_v be_v careful_a what_o society_n they_o voluntary_o join_v themselves_o to_o or_o abide_v in_o and_o shall_v diligent_o endeavour_v the_o reformation_n of_o such_o society_n and_o when_o they_o be_v fall_v into_o ruin_n past_o hope_n of_o recovery_n shall_v foresee_v the_o fall_n and_o save_v themselves_o prop._n 18._o it_o be_v both_o these_o sort_n of_o guilt_n which_o adhere_v to_o we_o in_o our_o infancy_n from_o our_o parent_n sin_n 1._o the_o guilt_n which_o follow_v our_o natural_a interest_n as_o we_o be_v seminal_o in_o they_o adher_v to_o we_o all_o as_o soon_o as_o we_o have_v our_o be_v 2._o the_o other_o be_v vary_v according_a to_o the_o several_a society_n that_o we_o be_v member_n of_o 1._o as_o we_o be_v member_n of_o the_o great_a commonwealth_n of_o the_o world_n whereof_o god_n be_v the_o sovereign_n so_o we_o be_v guilty_a by_o reason_n of_o the_o sin_n which_o mankind_n in_o our_o first_o parent_n commit_v in_o the_o beginning_n for_o god_n deal_v with_o adam_n in_o his_o first_o law_n not_o only_o as_o a_o individual_a person_n but_o also_o as_o whole_a mankind_n he_o and_o his_o wife_n be_v then_o the_o whole_a world_n and_o so_o as_o we_o be_v first_o guilty_a of_o death_n because_o of_o our_o natural_a interest_n in_o adam_n sin_n as_o be_v his_o progeny_n so_o next_o we_o be_v also_o guilty_a by_o reason_n of_o this_o civil_a or_o reputative_a interest_n as_o be_v member_n of_o the_o sinful_a world_n or_o of_o sinful_a mankind_n which_o late_a yet_o suppose_v the_o former_a as_o its_o ground_n and_o do_v not_o arise_v from_o any_o covenant_n or_o will_n of_o god_n to_o impute_v that_o to_o we_o which_o we_o be_v never_o guilty_a of_o by_o any_o natural_a interest_n of_o our_o own_o not_o that_o we_o be_v personal_o guilty_a before_o we_o be_v personal_o existent_a but_o that_o we_o be_v then_o seminal_o guilty_a as_o we_o have_v a_o seminal_a be_v in_o the_o nature_n and_o person_n of_o our_o progenitor_n and_o when_o our_o person_n from_o that_o seed_n do_v first_o exist_v they_o be_v guilty_a person_n as_o soon_o as_o person_n and_o therefore_o when_o man_n have_v first_o sin_v god_n that_o have_v give_v he_o a_o law_n as_o be_v all_o mankind_n and_o the_o root_n of_o a_o posterity_n in_o course_n of_o nature_n to_o spring_v from_o he_o do_v also_o in_o the_o same_o relation_n call_v he_o to_o judgement_n and_o sentence_v he_o for_o his_o sin_n and_o therefore_o pass_v such_o a_o sentence_n which_o we_o see_v by_o experience_n be_v execute_v on_o all_o mankind_n and_o as_o the_o individual_n multiply_v from_o the_o first_o condemn_v root_n so_o do_v the_o guilt_n and_o the_o sentence_a punishment_n adhere_v to_o each_o individual_a and_o in_o the_o same_o relation_n be_v the_o promise_n of_o a_o redeemer_n make_v to_o he_o as_o it_o be_v not_o adam_n only_o but_o all_o mankind_n that_o be_v mean_v by_o god_n sentence_n dust_n thou_o be_v and_o to_o dust_n thou_o shall_v return_v etc._n etc._n yet_o only_o adam_n as_o then_o personal_o existent_a and_o condemn_v and_o all_o other_o as_o seminal_o in_o he_o and_o the_o sentence_n make_v its_o first_o seizure_n on_o their_o person_n when_o their_o person_n shall_v first_o exist_v and_o not_o before_o even_o so_o be_v it_o by_o the_o guilt_n as_o it_o be_v by_o the_o sentence_n it_o be_v only_a adam_n person_n that_o be_v at_o first_o guilty_a but_o not_o only_o as_o a_o particular_a private_a person_n but_o as_o mankind_n and_o as_o the_o root_n of_o all_o that_o shall_v succeed_v and_o therefore_o we_o be_v seminal_o guilty_a in_o he_o and_o be_v personal_o guilty_a from_o he_o when_o we_o first_o personal_o exist_v 2._o and_o as_o we_o be_v thus_o guilty_a as_o member_n of_o sinful_a mankind_n so_o also_o as_o member_n of_o sinful_a family_n and_o in_o that_o respect_n may_v for_o the_o sin_n of_o our_o near_a parent_n lie_v under_o family_n punishment_n 3._o so_o be_v we_o also_o as_o member_n of_o wicked_a commonwealth_n and_o particular_a subordinate_a society_n in_o those_o commonwealth_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v so_o common_a for_o god_n to_o punish_v man_n for_o common_a abomination_n and_o provoke_a enormity_n which_o yet_o themselves_o do_v not_o commit_v 4._o the_o like_a may_v be_v say_v of_o heretical_a impure_a and_o scandalous_a church_n who_o member_n become_v liable_a to_o church-punishment_n as_o those_o aforesaid_a to_o common-wealth-punishment_n prop._n 19_o it_o be_v one_o thing_n to_o be_v so_o far_o guilty_a or_o to_o deserve_v punishment_n as_o that_o god_n may_v in_o the_o execution_n of_o vindictive_a justice_n lay_v it_o on_o we_o as_o our_o due_n unless_o remedy_v and_o it_o be_v another_o thing_n to_o be_v so_o far_o guilty_a as_o that_o god_n must_v punish_v we_o or_o else_o be_v unjust_a or_o not_o attain_v the_o end_n of_o right_a government_n by_o ordinary_a mean_n it_o be_v the_o first_o guilt_n only_o which_o i_o say_v arise_v from_o the_o sin_n of_o our_o parent_n to_o we_o the_o second_o i_o neither_o affirm_v nor_o deny_v as_o not_o intend_v now_o to_o meddle_v with_o that_o controversy_n prop._n 20._o though_o according_a to_o the_o strict_a rigour_n of_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n or_o work_n consider_v alone_o god_n may_v for_o the_o sin_n of_o adam_n or_o our_o near_a parent_n adjudge_v we_o to_o everlasting_a death_n as_o our_o due_n because_o of_o our_o forementioned_a participation_n therein_o yet_o have_v he_o provide_v such_o a_o remedy_n in_o the_o gospel_n that_o no_o man_n shall_v everlasting_o perish_v for_o any_o such_o sin_n who_o be_v make_v partaker_n of_o that_o remedy_n and_o therefore_o though_o the_o gospel_n find_v man_n under_o such_o a_o guilt_n by_o nature_n yet_o do_v it_o not_o bind_v it_o on_o they_o but_o free_v they_o from_o it_o if_o they_o be_v in_o christ_n therefore_o when_o god_n tell_v man_n that_o if_o they_o repent_v and_o believe_v it_o be_v not_o their_o father_n sin_n that_o shall_v damn_v they_o yet_o bid_v they_o take_v heed_n lest_o they_o perish_v by_o their_o own_o capable_a of_o we_o may_v have_v new_a punishment_n
adam_n first_o sin_n on_o that_o account_n because_o we_o be_v seminal_o in_o he_o and_o be_v propagate_v from_o he_o then_o be_v we_o guilty_a of_o our_o near_a parent_n sin_n on_o the_o same_o account_n but_o the_o antecedent_n be_v true_a go_v so_o be_v the_o consequent_a here_o i_o suppose_v it_o grant_v that_o adam_n first_o sin_n be_v impute_v to_o we_o and_o we_o guilty_a of_o it_o for_o i_o now_o deal_v not_o with_o those_o divine_n that_o deny_v it_o but_o with_o those_o that_o maintain_v it_o for_o as_o i_o say_v before_o if_o we_o be_v not_o guilty_a of_o adam_n sin_n than_o i_o must_v give_v up_o my_o cause_n and_o confess_v that_o we_o be_v not_o guilty_a of_o the_o sin_n of_o our_o near_a parent_n suppose_v then_o the_o imputation_n of_o adam_n sin_n to_o we_o i_o must_v first_o prove_v that_o the_o reason_n of_o that_o imputation_n be_v because_o we_o be_v propagate_v from_o he_o and_o be_v seminal_o in_o he_o 2._o that_o on_o the_o same_o reason_n we_o have_v the_o like_a guilt_n of_o near_a parent_n sin_n 1._o for_o the_o first_o i_o may_v safe_o premise_v this_o that_o as_o in_o all_o relation_n there_o must_v be_v a_o relate_v correlate_n and_o foundation_n and_o as_o to_o the_o disconformity_n of_o a_o crooked_a line_n from_o the_o rule_n there_o must_v be_v the_o crookedness_n of_o the_o line_n and_o the_o straightness_n of_o the_o rule_n and_o be_v the_o rule_n will_v not_o give_v you_o ground_n to_o denominate_v the_o line_n disconform_v or_o crooked_a unless_o it_o be_v true_o so_o even_o so_o there_o must_v be_v merit_n on_o man_n part_n consist_v in_o performance_n or_o some_o participation_n in_o the_o evil_a before_o the_o law_n which_o be_v the_o rule_n will_v judge_v he_o guilty_a the_o law_n be_v first_o the_o rule_n of_o duty_n and_o then_o the_o rule_n of_o judgement_n and_o it_o first_o show_v they_o to_o be_v guilty_a of_o the_o sin_n reos_fw-la culpae_fw-la before_o it_o show_v their_o obligation_n to_o punishment_n reatum_fw-la poenae_fw-la this_o be_v so_o it_o seem_v clear_a that_o the_o doctrine_n of_o too_o many_o that_o lie_v the_o chief_a or_o only_a cause_n of_o man_n guilt_n and_o punishment_n upon_o god_n covenant_n be_v not_o sound_a they_o say_v god_n make_v a_o covenant_n with_o adam_n that_o he_o shall_v stand_v or_o fall_v for_o all_o his_o posterity_n that_o be_v as_o some_o expound_v it_o that_o his_o desert_n of_o life_n or_o death_n shall_v be_v impute_v they_o and_o as_o other_o that_o if_o he_o sin_v he_o and_o his_o posterity_n shall_v be_v guilty_a of_o death_n and_o if_o he_o do_v not_o sin_n that_o first_o sin_n of_o eat_v the_o forbid_a fruit_n both_o he_o and_o his_o posterity_n shall_v be_v confirm_v in_o their_o happiness_n as_o the_o good_a angel_n and_o never_o fall_v afterward_o and_o this_o covenant_n say_v they_o make_v we_o guilty_a of_o adam_n sin_n though_o we_o have_v not_o a_o natural_a interest_n to_o make_v we_o guilty_a and_o so_o god_n impute_v it_o to_o we_o not_o because_o it_o be_v we_o before_o the_o imputation_n but_o because_o he_o be_v please_v to_o make_v it_o we_o by_o that_o imputation_n or_o by_o his_o covenant_n that_o it_o be_v not_o the_o imputation_n or_o covenant_n that_o primary_o make_v we_o guilty_a but_o determine_v we_o guilty_a of_o the_o fault_n who_o be_v so_o in_o ourselves_o and_o consequent_o determine_v we_o guilty_a of_o punishment_n i_o prove_v thus_o 1._o else_o it_o shall_v be_v god_n only_o or_o primary_o that_o shall_v make_v we_o sinner_n and_o not_o we_o ourselves_o nor_o our_o parent_n but_o that_o be_v most_o false_a go_v the_o consequence_n be_v most_o apparent_a if_o a_o man_n be_v therefore_o a_o sinner_n because_o god_n by_o his_o covenant_n or_o imputation_n say_v he_o be_v one_o and_o not_o because_o he_o be_v first_o make_v one_o by_o himself_o or_o parent_n than_o god_n be_v the_o principal_a if_o not_o only_a cause_n of_o sin_n 2._o yea_o adam_n sin_n or_o god_n impute_v it_o to_o we_o but_o mere_o because_o he_o will_v do_v it_o then_o on_o the_o same_o reason_n may_v god_n have_v make_v or_o judge_v the_o innocent_a angel_n or_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n guilty_a of_o adam_n sin_n yea_o he_o may_v have_v impute_v it_o to_o the_o sun_n or_o moon_n or_o any_o creature_n for_o if_o real_a innocency_n secure_v not_o we_o from_o be_v make_v sinner_n by_o god_n or_o repute_v such_o than_o it_o will_v not_o secure_v they_o or_o if_o god_n will_n to_o impute_v it_o be_v enough_o without_o a_o antecedent_n interest_n to_o ground_n that_o imputation_n upon_o then_o there_o be_v no_o difference_n as_o to_o interest_n in_o that_o sin_n between_o they_o and_o we_o but_o that_o be_v too_o gross_a a_o conceit_n to_o be_v defend_v 5._o there_o be_v no_o such_o covenant_n of_o god_n with_o adam_n mention_v in_o scripture_n as_o lay_v the_o final_a stand_n of_o his_o posterity_n upon_o that_o first_o obedience_n or_o disobedience_n of_o he_o much_o less_o that_o determine_v that_o they_o shall_v be_v judge_v guilty_a for_o his_o sake_n of_o more_o than_o they_o be_v guilty_a of_o indeed_o by_o natural_a interest_n the_o foundation_n of_o the_o relation_n be_v in_o ourselves_o i_o conclude_v therefore_o that_o it_o be_v most_o certain_a that_o there_o be_v in_o man_n some_o sufficient_a ground_n or_o cause_n contain_v in_o the_o very_a nature_n of_o man_n and_o so_o suppose_v that_o what_o we_o ought_v to_o do_v we_o will_v do_v and_o that_o if_o all_o man_n have_v then_o exi_v we_o ought_v to_o have_v consent_v to_o venture_v our_o felicity_n upon_o adam_n act_n and_o to_o run_v the_o hazard_n of_o perish_v with_o he_o on_o condition_n we_o may_v be_v save_v with_o he_o if_o he_o stand_v and_o so_o such_o a_o suppose_a consent_n be_v the_o ground_n of_o our_o guilt_n but_o though_o i_o will_v not_o exclude_v this_o last_o ground_n yet_o certain_o it_o be_v upon_o a_o supposition_n of_o the_o former_a or_o else_o it_o be_v none_o at_o all_o for_o man_n be_v not_o to_o exist_v till_o the_o fall_n be_v past_a and_o therefore_o can_v not_o be_v suppose_v to_o exist_v and_o if_o god_n have_v decree_v to_o create_v every_o individual_a person_n to_o the_o end_n of_o the_o world_n of_o nothing_o as_o he_o do_v adam_n without_o any_o derivation_n from_o he_o what_o virtual_a consent_n can_v be_v suppose_v or_o on_o what_o ground_n shall_v it_o be_v presuppose_v that_o we_o will_v all_o consent_n to_o live_v and_o die_v with_o he_o any_o more_o than_o with_o the_o angel_n that_o fall_v or_o any_o more_o than_o the_o good_a angel_n may_v be_v suppose_v to_o consent_v to_o such_o a_o thing_n i_o conclude_v therefore_o that_o the_o first_o ground_n of_o our_o interest_n in_o adam_n sin_n or_o our_o guilt_n of_o it_o be_v our_o be_v his_o offspring_n and_o then_o seminal_o in_o he_o and_o next_o that_o god_n may_v make_v one_o law_n for_o he_o and_o all_o that_o shall_v come_v of_o he_o as_o suppose_v the_o equity_n of_o their_o consent_n yet_o by_o that_o law_n he_o have_v not_o that_o i_o know_v of_o involve_v they_o in_o his_o first_o sin_n any_o more_o than_o in_o his_o
