chapter_n and_o attend_v to_o the_o scope_n of_o they_o for_o that_o which_o the_o apostle_n speak_v concern_v the_o law_n and_o the_o jew_n be_v under_o the_o law_n chap._n 4.1_o 2_o 3._o etc._n etc._n can_v be_v mean_v of_o those_o that_o be_v under_o it_o as_o under_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n but_o of_o those_o that_o be_v child_n of_o god_n by_o grace_n though_o yet_o under_o age_n etc._n etc._n again_o that_o which_o he_o speak_v of_o the_o law_n in_o chap._n 4.29_o 30._o with_o the_o verse_n before_o from_o ver_fw-la 21._o to_o the_o end_n can_v be_v apply_v otherwise_o then_o to_o the_o child_n of_o the_o law_n and_o covenant_n of_o work_n strict_o and_o proper_o so_o call_v and_o therefore_o this_o twofold_a consideration_n of_o the_o law_n be_v ground_v upon_o the_o text_n itself_o and_o the_o apostle_n arise_v from_o one_o of_o these_o unto_o the_o other_o first_o speak_v of_o the_o law_n as_o it_o have_v reference_n to_o that_o people_n show_v for_o what_o end_n it_o be_v give_v unto_o they_o which_o he_o handle_v chapter_n 3.17_o to_o chap._n 4.21_o and_o then_o fall_v to_o a_o absolute_a consideration_n of_o it_o in_o itself_o show_v the_o danger_n of_o be_v under_o the_o law_n be_v so_o consider_v simple_o as_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n namely_o that_o it_o cast_v we_o out_o of_o the_o inheritance_n which_o be_v give_v only_o to_o the_o child_n of_o promise_n the_o covenant_n then_o which_o god_n make_v with_o israel_n at_o sinai_n be_v a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n god_n renew_v with_o they_o the_o former_a covenant_n make_v before_o with_o they_o in_o abraham_n but_o withal_o do_v then_o show_v they_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n what_o it_o be_v thereby_o to_o force_v they_o to_o cleave_v unto_o the_o former_a promise_n of_o grace_n the_o sum_n be_v that_o though_o the_o law_n which_o contain_v the_o covenant_n of_o work_n be_v deliver_v to_o the_o israelite_n at_o mount_n sinai_n by_o a_o mediator_n moses_n by_o reason_n of_o that_o reference_n it_o have_v in_o they_o to_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n yet_o be_v it_o not_o so_o give_v by_o a_o mediator_n unto_o adam_n to_o who_o it_o be_v give_v as_o a_o mere_a covenant_n of_o work_n by_o which_o he_o shall_v live_v and_o in_o this_o appear_v the_o difference_n between_o the_o one_o covenant_n and_o the_o other_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n be_v without_o a_o mediator_n there_o be_v no_o breach_n between_o god_n and_o man_n when_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n be_v give_v but_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n be_v by_o a_o mediator_n to_o make_v up_o the_o breach_n which_o sin_n have_v make_v between_o god_n and_o we_o so_o as_o now_o in_o this_o estate_n of_o sin_n there_o be_v no_o peace_n with_o god_n no_o blessing_n from_o god_n but_o it_o must_v be_v obtain_v by_o the_o mediator_n between_o god_n and_o man_n jesus_n christ_n hence_o be_v that_o ephes_n 2.13.16.18_o where_o the_o apostle_n show_v how_o both_o jew_n and_o gentile_n be_v make_v near_o to_o god_n by_o christ_n we_o be_v alien_n and_o stranger_n but_o now_o be_v make_v citizen_n with_o the_o saint_n and_o of_o the_o household_n of_o god_n and_o have_v entrance_n and_o access_n to_o the_o father_n by_o christ_n neither_o be_v there_o any_o other_o blessing_n to_o be_v look_v for_o but_o as_o it_o come_v to_o we_o through_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o mediator_n he_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n and_o grace_n joh._n 1.16_o by_o he_o the_o mediator_n we_o enter_v and_o be_v bring_v into_o covenant_n with_o god_n by_o he_o we_o be_v keep_v in_o covenant_n with_o he_o by_o he_o we_o receive_v all_o the_o blessing_n of_o the_o covenant_n and_o without_o a_o mediator_n there_o be_v no_o peace_n no_o blessing_n to_o be_v look_v for_o all_o the_o promise_n of_o the_o covenant_n be_v make_v by_o he_o and_o fulfil_v two_o cor._n 1.20_o in_o he_o they_o be_v yea_o and_o amen_o though_o every_o promise_n do_v not_o by_o name_n mention_n christ_n yet_o it_o have_v respect_n unto_o christ_n and_o without_o christ_n we_o can_v receive_v nothing_o that_o come_v in_o the_o nature_n of_o a_o blessing_n or_o that_o come_v from_o grace_n grace_n come_v only_o by_o jesus_n christ_n joh._n 1.17_o this_o serve_v to_o let_v we_o see_v the_o misery_n of_o all_o such_o as_o be_v under_o the_o use_v 1_o law_n under_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o not_o under_o grace_n let_v they_o consider_v they_o must_v come_v and_o stand_v before_o god_n the_o judge_n of_o all_o who_o shall_v judge_v every_o man_n according_a to_o his_o work_n and_o then_o shall_v all_o their_o sin_n be_v set_v in_o order_n before_o they_o and_o lay_v unto_o their_o charge_n and_o the_o law_n pass_v sentence_n of_o death_n upon_o they_o and_o their_o own_o conscience_n terrify_v they_o and_o which_o be_v the_o upshot_n of_o their_o misery_n there_o shall_v be_v none_o to_o plead_v for_o they_o not_o one_o in_o heaven_n and_o earth_n to_o stand_v betwixt_o god_n wrath_n and_o enjoy_v he_o as_o he_o be_v only_o nourish_v your_o faith_n and_o live_v by_o faith_n make_v much_o of_o this_o precious_a grace_n cherish_v it_o by_o think_v often_o on_o the_o promise_n and_o of_o
