too_o in_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o thing_n itself_o that_o creature_n so_o different_a shall_v be_v under_o different_a law_n and_o that_o therefore_o neither_o their_o obedience_n to_o nor_o their_o transgression_n of_o those_o several_a law_n under_o which_o they_o be_v shall_v have_v any_o such_o concern_v or_o relation_n to_o one_o another_o as_o that_o one_o sort_n of_o creature_n shall_v in_o any_o case_n undergo_v the_o penalty_n of_o the_o transgression_n of_o the_o other_o sort_n of_o creature_n and_o therefore_o for_o the_o same_o reason_n that_o we_o shall_v look_v upon_o it_o as_o absurd_a and_o unjust_a that_o a_o man_n shall_v suffer_v for_o the_o sin_n of_o a_o angel_n i_o say_v for_o the_o same_o reason_n we_o shall_v think_v it_o no_o less_o absurd_a and_o unjust_a that_o a_o angel_n shall_v suffer_v for_o the_o sin_n of_o a_o man._n the_o thing_n may_v be_v make_v out_o in_o more_o word_n but_o it_o need_v not_o now_o these_o few_o remark_n be_v leave_v by_o the_o way_n to_o give_v perspicuity_n and_o strength_n to_o those_o thing_n which_o be_v to_o follow_v the_o wisdom_n justice_n reasonableness_n and_o congruity_n of_o the_o redemption_n of_o mankind_n by_o the_o suffering_n and_o death_n of_o our_o saviour_n as_o that_o redemption_n be_v express_o lay_v down_o in_o the_o scripture_n will_v appear_v from_o these_o follow_a consideration_n 1._o and_o first_o our_o saviour_n who_o by_o his_o death_n and_o suffering_n undertake_v the_o purchase_n of_o man_n redemption_n be_v as_o real_o and_o very_o a_o man_n himself_o as_o be_v those_o who_o he_o undertake_v to_o redeem_v this_o be_v evident_a because_o he_o be_v all_o along_o in_o the_o new_a testament_n call_v man_n the_o son_n of_o man_n and_o the_o like_a as_o we_o have_v make_v it_o out_o already_o and_o this_o so_o far_o accommodate_v the_o scripture-account_a of_o the_o purchase_n of_o man_n salvation_n to_o the_o law_n that_o 1._o as_o the_o law_n threaten_v the_o punishment_n to_o man_n alone_o and_o to_o no_o other_o creature_n so_o in_o the_o purchase_n of_o the_o redemption_n man_n alone_o suffer_v such_o punishment_n and_o no_o creature_n beside_o 2._o and_o second_o as_o it_o accommodate_v the_o scripture-account_a of_o the_o purchase_n of_o man_n redemption_n to_o the_o law_n because_o our_o saviour_n who_o suffer_v in_o order_n to_o such_o purchase_n be_v a_o man_n so_o it_o accommodate_v the_o scripture-account_a of_o the_o purchase_n of_o man_n redemption_n to_o the_o rule_n of_o justice_n because_o our_o saviour_n who_o suffer_v in_o order_n to_o such_o purchase_n be_v a_o innocent_a man._n it_o may_v perhaps_o at_o first_o sight_n look_v strange_a when_o i_o say_v that_o the_o purchase_n of_o redemption_n by_o the_o death_n of_o a_o innocent_a man_n be_v accommodate_v to_o the_o rule_n of_o justice_n but_o the_o wonder_n will_v then_o vanish_v when_o i_o shall_v come_v to_o make_v it_o out_o that_o though_o a_o innocent_a man_n can_v without_o his_o own_o consent_n be_v just_o punish_v yet_o that_o with_o such_o his_o consent_n he_o may_v be_v so_o punish_v but_o because_o that_o belong_v to_o another_o place_n therefore_o in_o this_o i_o pass_v it_o by_o for_o that_o that_o i_o design_n at_o present_a be_v only_o to_o show_v that_o it_o be_v not_o agreeable_a to_o the_o law_n of_o justice_n that_o a_o criminal_a against_o the_o law_n shall_v expiate_v another_o man_n sin_n by_o suffer_v the_o penalty_n of_o the_o law_n because_o the_o penalty_n which_o he_o suffer_v be_v the_o just_a demerit_n and_o wage_n of_o his_o own_o sin_n he_o can_v by_o undergo_a the_o punishment_n of_o his_o own_o sin_n add_v any_o such_o desert_n to_o such_o his_o punishment_n as_o to_o make_v it_o meritorious_a of_o impunity_n to_o any_o other_o sinner_n as_o therefore_o under_o the_o last_o head_n we_o learn_v that_o he_o who_o by_o his_o punishment_n expiate_v the_o sin_n of_o another_o man_n must_v in_o reason_n and_o congruity_n be_v a_o man_n himself_o so_o under_o this_o head_n we_o may_v learn_v that_o he_o must_v be_v a_o innocent_a man_n likewise_o and_o so_o the_o suffering_n and_o death_n of_o our_o saviour_n for_o the_o redemption_n of_o mankind_n will_v afford_v we_o a_o further_a congruity_n to_o the_o rule_n of_o reason_n and_o justice_n in_o that_o that_o saviour_n be_v exhibit_v to_o we_o in_o the_o gospel_n not_o only_o to_o be_v a_o man_n but_o also_o to_o be_v a_o innocent_a man._n 3._o the_o wisdom_n justice_n and_o reasonableness_n of_o the_o redemption_n of_o mankind_n by_o the_o suffering_n and_o death_n of_o our_o saviour_n as_o that_o saviour_n be_v a_o man_n will_v yet_o far_o and_o more_o notorious_o appear_v if_o we_o consider_v the_o first_o rise_n and_o formation_n of_o mankind_n according_a to_o that_o account_n which_o the_o scripture_n give_v we_o of_o it_o for_o there_o we_o be_v tell_v in_o general_a that_o god_n do_v of_o one_o blood_n make_v all_o nation_n of_o man_n for_o to_o dwell_v on_o the_o face_n of_o the_o whole_a earth_n in_o the_o seventeen_o chapter_n of_o the_o act_n of_o the_o apostle_n and_o then_o if_o we_o look_v back_o to_o the_o original_a creation_n of_o mankind_n and_o there_o inquire_v more_o particular_o how_o this_o be_v do_v we_o shall_v from_o thence_o be_v inform_v that_o god_n first_o make_v adam_n out_o of_o the_o earth_n and_o that_o after_o that_o he_o make_v eve_n out_o of_o adam_n both_o of_o they_o extraordinary_a and_o miraculous_a production_n and_o that_o then_o through_o all_o succeed_a generation_n he_o form_v all_o the_o rest_n of_o mankind_n out_o of_o both_o or_o such_o succeed_a pair_n which_o proceed_v from_o both_o to_o a_o understand_a man_n as_o miraculous_a though_o a_o more_o ordinary_a production_n than_o that_o of_o the_o first_o man_n and_o woman_n so_o that_o all_o mankind_n be_v by_o the_o scripture-account_a of_o the_o thing_n a_o continue_a propagation_n of_o the_o blood_n of_o adam_n branch_v out_o through_o the_o several_a dissemination_n of_o all_o succeed_a man_n and_o woman_n from_o his_o day_n to_o this_o present_a time_n now_o our_o saviour_n as_o he_o be_v man_n take_v part_n of_o this_o flesh_n and_o blood_n so_o the_o scripture_n and_o by_o do_v so_o become_v a_o part_n of_o that_o common_a blood_n out_o of_o which_o all_o the_o particular_a man_n in_o the_o world_n be_v and_o always_o have_v be_v make_v as_o well_o as_o he_o he_o stand_v therefore_o in_o as_o near_o a_o relation_n to_o all_o mankind_n as_o can_v possible_o be_v make_v by_o the_o same_o flesh_n and_o blood_n and_o that_o relation_n may_v well_o be_v grant_v to_o be_v very_o near_o because_o it_o be_v that_o very_a relation_n which_o the_o several_a part_n of_o a_o thing_n by_o continue_a derivation_n the_o same_o have_v to_o one_o another_o and_o so_o far_o the_o relation_n of_o our_o saviour_n to_o the_o rest_n of_o mankind_n be_v in_o all_o circumstance_n exact_o the_o same_o with_o that_o relation_n which_o every_o other_o man_n have_v to_o every_o other_o but_o yet_o there_o be_v something_o peculiar_a to_o our_o saviour_n in_o his_o become_a man_n which_o do_v not_o belong_v to_o any_o other_o man_n whosoever_o and_o that_o be_v that_o as_o the_o first_o woman_n be_v form_v only_o out_o of_o the_o man_n so_o our_o saviour_n be_v form_v only_o out_o of_o the_o woman_n and_o according_o the_o first_o promise_n of_o redemption_n that_o god_n give_v to_o adam_n after_o he_o have_v sin_v be_v prophetical_o word_v when_o he_o tell_v he_o that_o the_o seed_n of_o the_o woman_n shall_v break_v the_o serpent_n head_n and_o therefore_o as_o adam_n be_v in_o the_o scripture_n call_v the_o first_o man_n because_o he_o be_v form_v out_o of_o the_o earth_n so_o our_o saviour_n be_v call_v the_o second_o man_n in_o the_o same_o scripture_n because_o he_o be_v form_v out_o of_o the_o woman_n that_o be_v he_o be_v the_o first_o man_n after_o his_o kind_a as_o adam_n be_v in_o he_o to_o our_o present_a purpose_n and_o design_n then_o as_o we_o can_v but_o take_v notice_n that_o god_n counsel_n and_o merciful_a purpose_n for_o the_o redemption_n of_o mankind_n be_v very_o early_o for_o that_o counsel_n must_v needs_o be_v so_o that_o be_v in_o a_o manner_n cotemporary_a to_o man_n first_o sin_n as_o the_o immediate_a discovery_n of_o that_o counsel_n to_o man_n upon_o the_o commission_n of_o that_o sin_n do_v make_v it_o appear_v so_o some_o glimpse_n of_o that_o counsel_n do_v to_o i_o seem_v to_o show_v forth_o themselves_o in_o the_o scripture-account_a of_o man_n creation_n for_o when_o god_n tell_v we_o in_o his_o word_n that_o he_o have_v so_o order_v the_o creation_n propagation_n and_o dissemination_n of_o mankind_n that_o though_o their_o number_n be_v to_o we_o innumerable_a yet_o we_o do_v for_o all_o
reason_n of_o man_n tenure_n and_o subjection_n six_o as_o we_o may_v suppose_v the_o forbid_v tree_n to_o have_v stand_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o the_o garden_n from_o the_o nine_o verse_n of_o the_o second_o chapter_n of_o genesis_n so_o a_o tree_n so_o place_v be_v by_o its_o very_a situation_n a_o very_a fit_a and_o proper_a thing_n to_o be_v make_v use_n of_o for_o such_o a_o purpose_n because_o be_v in_o some_o measure_n at_o least_o equidistant_a from_o the_o boundary_n of_o the_o general_a grant_n it_o must_v for_o that_o reason_n be_v most_o likely_a to_o present_v itself_o to_o adam_n view_n to_o whatever_o part_n of_o the_o garden_n he_o move_v and_o by_o so_o do_v must_v constant_o or_o at_o least_o frequent_o put_v he_o in_o mind_n of_o the_o nature_n of_o his_o tenure_n viz._n that_o he_o hold_v it_o of_o he_o who_o have_v settle_v he_o in_o the_o possession_n and_o use_v of_o all_o the_o rest_n so_o that_o as_o the_o law_n be_v positive_a if_o we_o only_o look_v upon_o the_o express_a word_n of_o it_o so_o it_o be_v moral_a if_o we_o consider_v what_o be_v imply_v in_o it_o and_o therefore_o as_o the_o immediate_a and_o direct_a transgression_n of_o the_o law_n be_v the_o eat_v the_o forbid_a fruit_n so_o the_o couch_a immorality_n of_o such_o transgression_n be_v a_o usurpation_n upon_o god_n prerogative_n in_o this_o low_a world_n and_o a_o encroachment_n upon_o the_o reserve_a right_n and_o demean_n of_o the_o supreme_a lord_n the_o transgression_n of_o the_o express_a law_n then_o be_v a_o sin_n against_o god_n command_n but_o the_o transgression_n of_o the_o imply_v law_n be_v a_o sin_n against_o his_o natural_a and_o supreme_a right_n the_o first_o be_v a_o sin_n because_o it_o do_v what_o god_n have_v express_o forbid_v the_o last_o be_v implicit_o forbid_v because_o it_o be_v a_o sin_n and_o therefore_o be_v a_o sin_n though_o god_n do_v not_o express_o forbid_v it_o the_o first_o be_v therefore_o only_o unlawful_a because_o forbid_a the_o last_o be_v unlawful_a in_o itself_o to_o sum_v up_o all_o in_o a_o few_o word_n though_o the_o designation_n of_o the_o particular_a thing_n viz._n the_o tree_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o the_o garden_n be_v arbitrary_a and_o therefore_o positive_a yet_o the_o designation_n of_o something_o be_v as_o just_a and_o wise_a so_o i_o may_v add_v moral_a and_o necessary_a too_o at_o least_o so_o far_o as_o it_o be_v so_o that_o god_n supreme_a right_a aught_o to_o be_v assert_v and_o own_a for_o so_o far_o forth_o the_o prohibition_n give_v to_o man_n of_o eat_v of_o the_o fruit_n of_o any_o tree_n mark_v out_o or_o of_o meddle_v with_o any_o thing_n else_o be_v ground_v upon_o the_o antecedent_n and_o eternal_a rule_n of_o reason_n and_o justice_n that_o be_v of_o morality_n and_o therefore_o though_o the_o express_a prohibition_n of_o the_o law_n be_v only_o positive_a yet_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o prohibition_n be_v at_o least_o so_o far_o moral_a as_o it_o be_v so_o that_o man_n by_o some_o mean_n or_o other_o shall_v acknowledge_v god_n to_o be_v his_o supreme_a lord_n and_o that_o he_o receive_v from_o he_o whatsoever_o he_o enjoy_v and_o that_o if_o god_n do_v express_o appoint_v the_o way_n and_o mean_n of_o his_o so_o do_v he_o ought_v to_o do_v it_o by_o the_o way_n and_o means_n so_o appoint_v and_o i_o therefore_o say_v express_o because_o so_o far_o as_o the_o word_n of_o the_o law_n under_o our_o present_a consideration_n do_v go_v it_o be_v notorious_a that_o what_o be_v express_o prohibit_v by_o it_o be_v only_o arbitrary_a and_o positive_a but_o that_o the_o morality_n of_o the_o prohibition_n be_v not_o express_v but_o at_o the_o most_o but_o couch_v and_o imply_v by_o what_o have_v be_v speak_v we_o may_v learn_v 1._o that_o the_o sin_n express_o prohibit_v by_o the_o law_n may_v therefore_o true_o be_v esteem_v a_o lesser_a sin_n because_o it_o be_v only_o a_o sin_n against_o a_o positive_a law_n for_o such_o a_o sin_n be_v a_o sin_n only_o against_o god_n authority_n whereas_o a_o sin_n that_o contain_v a_o natural_a immorality_n in_o it_o if_o i_o may_v so_o speak_v be_v a_o sin_n both_o against_o god_n authority_n and_o against_o his_o purity_n and_o holiness_n too_o 2._o that_o the_o express_a penalty_n of_o the_o law_n be_v only_o a_o punishment_n threaten_v against_o the_o transgression_n of_o the_o express_a prohibition_n of_o the_o law_n for_o it_o do_v not_o look_v like_o justice_n to_o assign_v a_o express_a punishment_n in_o the_o law_n for_o the_o transgression_n of_o any_o thing_n which_o be_v not_o express_o contain_v in_o the_o law_n 3._o such_o punishment_n so_o threaten_v against_o the_o transgression_n of_o the_o express_a law_n be_v express_v absolute_a and_o peremptory_a adam_n then_o do_v therefore_o fatal_o suffer_v the_o penalty_n of_o the_o law_n because_o he_o sin_v against_o a_o express_a prohibition_n which_o be_v ratify_v by_o a_o absolute_a peremptory_a and_o express_v threat_n for_o god_n may_v therefore_o be_v think_v to_o be_v oblige_v by_o his_o truth_n to_o punish_v adam_n transgression_n according_a to_o the_o express_a threat_n of_o the_o law_n because_o he_o have_v pass_v his_o more_o solemn_a word_n that_o he_o will_v do_v so_o and_o as_o he_o be_v oblige_v by_o his_o truth_n to_o punish_v it_o as_o the_o law_n have_v threaten_v so_o he_o be_v oblige_v to_o punish_v it_o because_o it_o be_v a_o sin_n for_o so_o undoubted_o be_v the_o transgression_n of_o any_o of_o god_n law_n from_o hence_o it_o may_v be_v conclude_v that_o we_o all_o die_v a_o temporal_a death_n for_o adam_n sin_n for_o as_o we_o be_v in_o the_o loin_n of_o he_o in_o the_o day_n of_o his_o transgression_n so_o god_n have_v not_o by_o any_o other_o law_n assign_v a_o universal_a mortality_n as_o the_o punishment_n of_o sin_n and_o so_o speak_v the_o scripture_n in_o adam_n all_o die_v 4._o as_o the_o moral_a law_n couch_v in_o the_o positive_a law_n be_v not_o express_v so_o neither_o be_v there_o any_o express_a punishment_n threaten_v to_o the_o transgression_n of_o such_o couch_v law_n for_o while_o man_n be_v in_o a_o state_n of_o innocence_n as_o there_o be_v no_o need_n that_o god_n shall_v prescribe_v he_o any_o express_a law_n to_o guide_v he_o in_o such_o thing_n which_o be_v in_o their_o own_o nature_n good_a because_o the_o dictate_v of_o his_o own_o reason_n be_v of_o themselves_o sufficient_a for_o such_o his_o guidance_n for_o moral_a goodness_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o the_o dictate_v of_o right_a reason_n employ_v about_o the_o action_n of_o rational_a creature_n so_o for_o the_o same_o reason_n there_o be_v no_o occasion_n to_o threaten_v he_o in_o that_o case_n with_o any_o express_a penalty_n because_o the_o threaten_n of_o a_o express_a penalty_n antecedent_n to_o the_o commission_n of_o the_o crime_n can_v only_o be_v proper_a there_o where_o there_o be_v a_o express_a law_n command_v a_o duty_n whereas_o man_n have_v never_o by_o his_o reason_n know_v that_o it_o have_v be_v a_o sin_n to_o eat_v of_o any_o fruit_n which_o kind_o offer_v itself_o to_o his_o view_n and_o natural_a inclination_n if_o such_o fruit_n have_v not_o be_v forbid_v by_o some_o express_a law_n and_o therefore_o for_o the_o same_o reason_n that_o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o such_o law_n shall_v be_v express_a it_o be_v necessary_a that_o the_o penalty_n of_o such_o law_n shall_v be_v express_v too_o 5._o as_o the_o sin_n against_o the_o moral_a duty_n which_o be_v only_o imply_v in_o the_o law_n be_v that_o duty_n suppose_v to_o be_v express_a law_n be_v great_a than_o the_o sin_n against_o the_o express_a but_o positive_a law_n so_o be_v there_o a_o punishment_n to_o be_v express_o assign_v to_o such_o sin_n it_o must_v in_o justice_n be_v great_a than_o the_o punishment_n assign_v to_o the_o less_o sin_n that_o be_v to_o the_o transgression_n of_o the_o positive_a law_n the_o punishment_n therefore_o assign_v by_o the_o express_a law_n to_o the_o transgression_n of_o it_o be_v only_a death_n and_o that_o too_o as_o appear_v from_o the_o nineteenth_o verse_n of_o the_o three_o chapter_n of_o genesis_n a_o temporal_a death_n our_o reason_n and_o that_o natural_a sense_n we_o have_v of_o the_o proportion_n of_o justice_n will_v assure_v we_o that_o the_o law_n which_o forbid_v a_o great_a sin_n than_o this_o law_n do_v must_v in_o reason_n and_o equity_n assign_v a_o heavy_a punishment_n to_o such_o great_a sin_n 6._o such_o heavy_a punishment_n must_v suppose_v a_o resurrection_n for_o a_o great_a punishment_n than_o death_n can_v therefore_o be_v inflict_v upon_o a_o dead_a man_n without_o a_o resurrection_n because_o no_o punishment_n at_o all_o can_v be_v so_o inflict_v upon_o he_o for_o where_o there_o be_v no_o sensation_n
that_o very_a question_n which_o they_o alone_o have_v make_v a_o question_n viz._n whether_o jesus_n christ_n die_v for_o the_o sin_n of_o man_n i_o say_v they_o will_v alter_v it_o into_o another_o question_n neither_o fit_a to_o be_v dispute_v nor_o possible_a to_o be_v determine_v by_o shortsighted_a man_n viz._n what_o god_n can_v do_v and_o what_o god_n can_v do_v whereas_o it_o be_v sufficient_a for_o we_o to_o take_v thing_n as_o we_o find_v they_o and_o if_o we_o find_v that_o thing_n in_o the_o present_a case_n be_v so_o order_v by_o god_n and_o that_o he_o tell_v we_o that_o they_o be_v so_o as_o that_o sinful_a man_n shall_v not_o obtain_v redemption_n but_o only_o by_o the_o merit_n and_o death_n of_o jesus_n christ_n their_o saviour_n i_o say_v if_o god_n tell_v we_o and_o that_o too_o by_o repeat_v declaration_n that_o thing_n in_o the_o present_a case_n be_v so_o order_v we_o ought_v to_o acquiesce_v in_o such_o his_o declaration_n and_o not_o employ_v our_o vanity_n or_o curiosity_n for_o it_o can_v in_o no_o sober_a sense_n be_v call_v our_o reason_n in_o inquire_v whether_o much_o less_o in_o determine_v that_o they_o may_v or_o may_v not_o have_v be_v better_o order_v but_o of_o this_o more_o hereafter_o at_o present_v therefore_o and_o in_o the_o first_o place_n we_o shall_v take_v the_o matter_n of_o fact_n to_o be_v just_a as_o the_o scripture_n have_v in_o most_o plain_a and_o express_v word_n tell_v we_o it_o be_v that_o jesus_n christ_n die_v for_o our_o sin_n that_o he_o die_v to_o save_v sinner_n etc._n etc._n and_o then_o by_o compare_v this_o matter_n of_o fact_n with_o other_o the_o method_n of_o the_o divine_a proceed_n in_o the_o like_a case_n see_v if_o it_o will_v not_o afford_v we_o a_o very_a plausible_a argument_n of_o the_o truth_n lay_v down_o that_o there_o be_v not_o salvation_n in_o any_o other_o now_o if_o we_o carry_v our_o observation_n through_o any_o other_o the_o transaction_n of_o the_o divine_a love_n and_o mercy_n that_o do_v design_n to_o entitle_v man_n to_o the_o same_o salvation_n we_o shall_v find_v that_o god_n do_v never_o make_v use_n of_o extraordinary_a mean_n where_o the_o ordinary_a be_v sufficient_a and_o therefore_o when_o the_o lord_n himself_o appear_v to_o saul_n in_o his_o journey_n to_o damascus_n we_o find_v that_o the_o design_n and_o effect_v of_o that_o vision_n be_v to_o refer_v he_o to_o ananias_n for_o instruction_n in_o his_o duty_n and_o so_o when_o the_o angel_n appear_v to_o cornelius_n the_o business_n of_o his_o message_n be_v only_o to_o direct_v he_o to_o peter_n that_o so_o peter_n may_v by_o the_o ordinary_a mean_n of_o grace_n direct_v he_o into_o the_o way_n of_o salvation_n and_o when_o man_n have_v moses_n and_o the_o prophet_n it_o will_v therefore_o concern_v they_o in_o duty_n and_o interest_n to_o hear_v they_o because_o in_o such_o case_n god_n will_v not_o convince_v they_o by_o raise_v one_o from_o the_o dead_a in_o short_a as_o it_o be_v not_o the_o method_n of_o the_o divine_a proceed_n so_o neither_o be_v it_o of_o wisdom_n itself_o to_o let_v the_o measure_n of_o the_o mean_n exceed_v in_o their_o proportion_n to_o the_o design_v end_n and_o in_o any_o case_n whatsoever_o where_o less_o cost_n or_o labour_n be_v sufficient_a there_o common_a prudence_n will_v by_o no_o mean_n allow_v and_o much_o less_o approve_v our_o drudgery_n or_o profuseness_n now_o to_o bring_v what_o we_o have_v say_v to_o our_o present_a purpose_n since_o our_o saviour_n for_o the_o establishment_n of_o the_o gospel-covenant_n do_v love_n and_o goodwill_n to_o low_a mean_a and_o inferior_a creature_n as_o the_o best_a of_o creature_n be_v if_o compare_v to_o he_o if_o the_o son_n who_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n have_v not_o interpose_v upon_o that_o occasion_n and_o so_o they_o make_v he_o a_o mediator_n of_o creation_n as_o well_o as_o of_o redemption_n but_o lay_v that_o aside_o at_o present_a as_o be_v nothing_o to_o shall_v be_v so_o silly_a as_o to_o think_v that_o he_o can_v deserve_v his_o be_v of_o god_n then_o to_o make_v good_a such_o his_o conceit_n it_o will_v be_v expect_v and_o that_o too_o for_o ever_o for_o the_o expectation_n will_v never_o be_v answer_v that_o he_o shall_v make_v it_o out_o that_o nothing_o may_v have_v something_o of_o merit_n in_o it_o and_o that_o what_o as_o yet_o be_v not_o we_o so_o long_o he_o will_v continue_v the_o effect_n of_o such_o his_o goodwill_n too_o and_o if_o we_o be_v not_o assure_v of_o this_o than_o it_o may_v be_v all_o one_o as_o to_o we_o whether_o god_n be_v well-pleased_a with_o we_o and_o love_v we_o or_o not_o for_o if_o the_o loss_n of_o such_o good_a thing_n which_o be_v the_o essect_v of_o god_n goodwill_n to_o we_o may_v while_o we_o continue_v holy_a and_o innocent_a be_v once_o make_v consistent_a with_o such_o his_o goodwill_n then_o farewell_n to_o all_o distinction_n as_o to_o the_o justice_n of_o reward_n and_o punishment_n for_o in_o such_o a_o case_n it_o may_v be_v the_o same_o thing_n whether_o we_o please_v god_n or_o displease_v he_o because_o we_o may_v lose_v the_o effect_n of_o his_o favour_n that_o be_v according_a to_o the_o tenor_n of_o the_o last_o head_n we_o may_v be_v punish_v as_o well_o for_o our_o innocence_n as_o for_o our_o wickedness_n or_o at_o the_o very_o best_a we_o may_v be_v punish_v for_o nothing_o no_o no_o as_o god_n displeasure_n be_v contrary_a to_o his_o goodwill_n and_o favour_n so_o the_o essect_v and_o consequence_n of_o that_o displeasure_n must_v be_v from_o it_o must_v in_o course_n cease_v also_o and_o then_o because_o where_o they_o cease_v there_o the_o sinner_n punishment_n do_v begin_v therefore_o we_o may_v now_o from_o the_o whole_a begin_v to_o perceive_v that_o the_o punishment_n of_o sin_n be_v not_o so_o arbitrarious_fw-la a_o thing_n as_o it_o be_v usual_o take_v to_o be_v but_o that_o it_o do_v when_o trace_v to_o the_o beginning_n so_o after_o the_o saviour_n have_v lay_v down_o his_o mediatorial_n office_n a_o eternal_a death_n will_v be_v find_v to_o be_v so_o too_o i_o word_n it_o so_o lest_o my_o caution_n before_o this_o head_n shall_v by_o this_o time_n be_v forget_v now_o if_o it_o be_v not_o a_o eternal_a law_n of_o justice_n that_o punishment_n be_v the_o necessary_a reward_n of_o sin_n than_o it_o may_v be_v all_o one_o as_o to_o the_o event_n and_o that_o just_o and_o final_o too_o whether_o a_o man_n depart_v this_o life_n the_o best_a or_o the_o worst_a man_n in_o the_o whole_a world_n for_o if_o there_o be_v not_o some_o law_n of_o justice_n that_o shall_v at_o the_o last_o day_n distinguish_v the_o event_n of_o their_o contrary_a course_n than_o nothing_o can_v and_o if_o that_o justice_n be_v not_o necessary_a let_v the_o mean_n by_o which_o it_o be_v not_o so_o be_v what_o they_o will_v the_o difference_n between_o their_o condition_n can_v be_v but_o casual_a or_o at_o the_o very_o best_a but_o arbitrary_a and_o so_o we_o must_v leave_v they_o both_o to_o a_o grand_a perhaps_o which_o will_v be_v in_o effect_n to_o destroy_v all_o religion_n and_o justice_n there_o be_v one_o thing_n against_o this_o discourse_n of_o weight_n and_o moment_n which_o though_o i_o shall_v profess_o answer_v in_o another_o place_n yet_o shall_v not_o go_v unmentioned_a here_o and_o that_o be_v that_o
of_o sin_n let_v we_o first_o hear_v what_o the_o spirit_n say_v who_o in_o the_o four_o to_o the_o ephesian_n the_o four_o and_o five_o verse_n tell_v we_o that_o when_o the_o fullness_n of_o time_n be_v come_v god_n send_v forth_o his_o son_n make_v of_o a_o woman_n make_v under_o the_o law_n that_o be_v his_o son_n be_v incarnate_a and_o be_v under_o the_o law_n and_o therefore_o make_v so_o as_o to_o be_v oblige_v to_o be_v obedient_a to_o it_o to_o redeem_v they_o that_o be_v under_o the_o law_n that_o we_o may_v receive_v the_o adoption_n of_o son_n and_o when_o we_o be_v tell_v in_o to_o take_v away_o sin_n and_o when_o to_o answer_v to_o and_o explain_v the_o mean_v of_o these_o place_n we_o be_v assure_v from_o other_o place_n that_o at_o least_o one_o way_n of_o his_o take_v away_o sin_n be_v by_o the_o sacrifice_n of_o himself_o as_o in_o the_o twenty_o six_o verse_n of_o the_o nine_o to_o the_o hebrew_n and_o that_o he_o appear_v for_o that_o very_a purpose_n in_o the_o same_o place_n and_o when_o we_o add_v to_o all_o this_o what_o we_o find_v in_o the_o five_o verse_n of_o the_o follow_a chapter_n that_o god_n have_v prepare_v he_o a_o body_n and_o in_o the_o ten_o and_o therefore_o all_o the_o uncouth_a and_o force_a interpretation_n of_o these_o and_o such_o like_a text_n which_o yet_o be_v a_o multitude_n that_o attempt_n to_o evacuate_v their_o plain_a mean_v may_v as_o soon_o persuade_v a_o honest_a and_o sincere_a man_n that_o the_o scripture_n both_o of_o the_o old_a and_o new_a testament_n be_v a_o book_n full_a of_o collusion_n and_o prevarication_n as_o they_o may_v that_o jesus_n christ_n our_o saviour_n do_v not_o die_v to_o expiate_v the_o sin_n of_o mankind_n and_o be_v i_o not_o assure_v of_o god_n providence_n i_o shall_v be_v apt_a to_o fear_v that_o the_o devil_n may_v in_o time_n so_o bring_v thing_n about_o that_o if_o he_o can_v upon_o pretence_n of_o reason_n wipe_v away_o that_o part_n of_o the_o bible_n that_o concern_v our_o saviour_n incarnation_n and_o the_o relation_n which_o that_o have_v to_o man_n redemption_n that_o he_o may_v at_o last_o raise_v his_o hope_n of_o blot_v out_o the_o whole_a christian_a religion_n for_o to_o tell_v we_o that_o our_o saviour_n be_v only_o such_o a_o man_n as_o other_o man_n be_v but_o only_o conceive_v in_o a_o different_a and_o therefore_o more_o wonderful_a manner_n to_o tell_v we_o that_o he_o die_v patient_o though_o wrongful_o only_o that_o he_o may_v give_v we_o a_o example_n of_o a_o exact_a patience_n and_o of_o a_o entire_a submission_n to_o god_n providence_n to_o tell_v we_o that_o he_o be_v slay_v a_o sacrifice_n only_o to_o confirm_v the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n but_o that_o there_o be_v no_o such_o design_n in_o his_o death_n as_o to_o suffer_v for_o or_o to_o expiate_v our_o sin_n as_o it_o be_v a_o notorious_a contradiction_n to_o and_o not_o a_o exposition_n of_o the_o scripture_n so_o for_o that_o very_a reason_n it_o will_v appear_v to_o have_v a_o direct_a tendency_n towards_o the_o overthrow_v the_o grand_a design_n of_o the_o whole_a book_n of_o god_n all_o which_o to_o they_o who_o shall_v scan_v the_o scripture_n exact_o be_v direct_v to_o and_o do_v centre_n in_o the_o saviour_n and_o that_o redemption_n which_o he_o purchase_v for_o mankind_n by_o his_o death_n and_o merit_n have_v therefore_o thus_o in_o short_a take_v notice_n of_o what_o the_o scripture_n tell_v we_o concern_v the_o expiation_n of_o sin_n by_o the_o sussering_n of_o our_o saviour_n and_o have_v already_o make_v it_o out_o 1._o that_o no_o creature_n can_v by_o any_o mean_n expiate_v the_o sin_n of_o mankind_n and_o 2._o that_o our_o saviour_n be_v god_n incarnate_a or_o god_n and_o man_n unite_v in_o one_o person_n we_o do_v in_o pursuit_n of_o our_o main_a design_n lay_v it_o down_o in_o the_o 3._o three_o place_n that_o the_o way_n and_o method_n of_o man_n salvation_n as_o it_o be_v express_o and_o frequent_o lay_v down_o in_o the_o scripture_n which_o be_v by_o the_o suffering_n and_o death_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n manifest_v in_o the_o flesh_n be_v agreeable_a to_o right_a reason_n that_o law_n about_o the_o transgression_n of_o which_o and_o the_o release_n from_o the_o penalty_n of_o such_o transgression_n the_o gospel-forgiveness_n be_v only_o concern_v be_v give_v to_o man._n for_o the_o scripture_n give_v we_o no_o account_n of_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o the_o breach_n of_o any_o other_o law_n but_o only_o of_o that_o law_n which_o god_n have_v prescribe_v to_o mankind_n and_o therefore_o though_o in_o the_o scripture_n we_o have_v several_a broad_a hint_n of_o the_o fall_n of_o the_o angel_n and_o though_o our_o reason_n tell_v we_o that_o that_o which_o put_v they_o under_o the_o displeasure_n of_o god_n must_v needs_o be_v sin_n in_o the_o general_a yet_o we_o be_v therefore_o ignorant_a what_o their_o sin_n be_v because_o we_o be_v ignorant_a what_o that_o law_n be_v against_o which_o they_o sin_v 2._o we_o take_v notice_n that_o as_o that_o law_n about_o which_o alone_o the_o gospel-forgiveness_n be_v concern_v be_v the_o law_n give_v by_o god_n to_o man_n so_o the_o gospel_n take_v no_o other_o or_o far_a notice_n of_o the_o transgression_n of_o that_o law_n than_o as_o that_o law_n be_v break_v by_o man._n from_o whence_o we_o infer_v in_o the_o 3._o three_o place_n that_o that_o punishment_n which_o the_o law_n threaten_v against_o those_o who_o transgress_v it_o can_v only_o in_o justice_n belong_v to_o those_o to_o who_o the_o law_n be_v give_v and_o direct_v for_o they_o can_v never_o transgress_v a_o law_n who_o have_v no_o law_n assign_v they_o and_o they_o can_v never_o be_v just_o punish_v for_o the_o transgression_n of_o the_o law_n who_o can_v never_o transgress_v the_o law_n the_o law_n therefore_o about_o which_o alone_o a_o gospel-forgiveness_n be_v concern_v be_v the_o law_n give_v to_o man_n and_o transgress_v by_o man_n man_n alone_o can_v just_o suffer_v the_o penalty_n of_o such_o transgression_n from_o whence_o we_o infer_v in_o the_o 4._o four_o place_n that_o if_o any_o penalty_n can_v ever_o just_o expiate_v that_o gild_n which_o be_v contract_v by_o the_o breach_n of_o the_o law_n that_o penalty_n that_o must_v make_v such_o expiation_n must_v be_v a_o penalty_n lay_v upon_o man._n and_o therefore_o our_o common_a sense_n of_o justice_n will_v not_o allow_v we_o to_o think_v that_o either_o angel_n which_o be_v rank_v above_o mankind_n nor_o beast_n which_o be_v rank_v below_o they_o can_v by_o any_o suffering_n whatsoever_o expiate_v or_o atone_v for_o the_o breach_n of_o such_o law_n which_o be_v give_v by_o god_n to_o man_n do_v so_o far_o forth_o concern_v man_n alone_o and_o though_o we_o have_v before_o make_v it_o out_o that_o neither_o angel_n on_o the_o one_o hand_n nor_o brute_n beast_n on_o the_o other_o can_v expiate_v the_o sin_n of_o mankind_n as_o both_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o be_v creature_n yet_o what_o we_o now_o say_v be_v that_o they_o can_v do_v it_o as_o they_o be_v different_a creature_n for_o it_o seem_v necessary_a and_o that_o
that_o know_v that_o they_o all_o come_v from_o one_o single_a fountain_n that_o be_v from_o one_o single_a man_n and_o so_o that_o they_o be_v all_o but_o so_o many_o rivulet_n from_o that_o fountain_n and_o when_o moreover_o we_o be_v assure_v that_o our_o saviour_n be_v one_o of_o those_o rivulet_n for_o though_o our_o saviour_n be_v only_o to_o be_v make_v of_o the_o woman_n yet_o because_o the_o woman_n be_v make_v out_o of_o the_o man_n therefore_o our_o saviour_n do_v by_o the_o woman_n derive_v from_o the_o same_o one_o single_a person_n with_o the_o rest_n of_o mankind_n i_o say_v when_o we_o consider_v all_o this_o methinks_v it_o be_v no_o hard_a matter_n to_o conceive_v that_o god_n himself_o do_v in_o his_o word_n lie_v the_o groundwork_n of_o man_n redemption_n by_o a_o saviour_n if_o i_o may_v be_v allow_v so_o to_o word_n myself_o in_o that_o near_a and_o intimate_a relation_n which_o our_o saviour_n by_o become_a man_n have_v to_o all_o mankind_n beside_o and_o that_o the_o intimacy_n of_o such_o relation_n consist_v in_o this_o that_o the_o saviour_n and_o all_o mankind_n do_v derive_v from_o one_o single_a and_o common_a fountain_n and_o hence_o we_o be_v tell_v in_o one_o place_n that_o as_o by_o man_n come_v death_n there_o be_v the_o sin_n of_o adam_n and_o the_o wage_n of_o such_o sin_n by_o man_n come_v also_o the_o resurrection_n of_o the_o dead_a there_o be_v the_o redemption_n of_o our_o saviour_n and_o his_o purchase_n and_o more_o express_o still_o to_o our_o present_a purpose_n speak_v the_o same_o apostle_n in_o the_o same_o chapter_n the_o fifteen_o of_o the_o first_o to_o the_o corinthian_n for_o as_o in_o adam_n all_o die_v so_o in_o christ_n shall_v all_o be_v make_v alive_a and_o to_o the_o same_o purpose_n again_o in_o the_o five_o to_o the_o roman_n and_o the_o eighteen_o verse_n therefore_o as_o by_o the_o offence_n of_o one_o judgement_n come_v upon_o all_o man_n to_o condemnation_n even_o so_o by_o the_o righteousness_n of_o one_o the_o free-gift_n come_v upon_o all_o man_n unto_o justification_n of_o life_n in_o all_o which_o text_n and_o several_a other_o that_o may_v be_v name_v it_o be_v notorious_a that_o the_o redemption_n of_o mankind_n be_v so_o ascribe_v to_o the_o second_o adam_n the_o man_n christ_n jesus_n as_o the_o sin_n and_o death_n of_o mankind_n be_v ascribe_v to_o the_o first_o man_n adam_n and_o i_o do_v not_o at_o all_o question_n but_o that_o those_o hint_n which_o the_o scripture_n do_v frequent_o offer_v to_o we_o of_o our_o saviour_n take_v the_o humane_a nature_n in_o order_n to_o our_o redemption_n of_o his_o take_a part_n of_o the_o same_o flesh_n and_o blood_n with_o we_o of_o his_o be_v our_o brother_n and_o the_o like_a i_o say_v i_o do_v not_o at_o all_o question_n but_o that_o when_o serious_o consider_v they_o may_v mighty_o assist_v and_o facilitate_v both_o our_o conception_n and_o belief_n of_o the_o wisdom_n justice_n reasonableness_n and_o congruity_n of_o our_o saviour_n incarnation_n death_n resurrection_n in_o one_o word_n of_o that_o redemption_n which_o he_o by_o be_v make_v one_o with_o mankind_n by_o take_v their_o nature_n upon_o himself_o have_v purchase_v form_n they_o and_o may_v mighty_o conduce_v to_o the_o remove_n of_o those_o difficulty_n which_o the_o enemy_n of_o the_o cross_n of_o christ_n have_v throw_v as_o so_o many_o stumbling-block_n in_o the_o way_n of_o plain_a and_o honest_a christian_n 4._o the_o wisdom_n justice_n reasonableness_n and_o congruity_n of_o our_o saviour_n incarnation_n in_o order_n to_o his_o purchase_n of_o man_n redemption_n do_v yet_o far_o appear_v in_o that_o by_o become_a man_n he_o put_v himself_o into_o a_o capacity_n of_o suffer_a death_n that_o be_v of_o suffer_v that_o punishment_n which_o the_o law_n have_v denounce_v against_o those_o that_o shall_v transgress_v it_o for_o it_o be_v a_o gross_a mistake_n and_o do_v indeed_o bring_v a_o scandal_n upon_o god_n veracity_n to_o affirm_v that_o he_o threaten_v great_a vengeance_n in_o any_o law_n before_o the_o transgression_n of_o it_o than_o he_o will_v execute_v after_o the_o transgression_n that_o so_o he_o may_v the_o more_o effectual_o prevent_v such_o transgression_n for_o god_n never_o yet_o threaten_v any_o peremptory_a and_o unconditional_a punishment_n in_o any_o law_n which_o he_o have_v not_o or_o when_o the_o time_n come_v he_o will_v not_o as_o certain_o execute_v in_o the_o day_n thou_o eat_v thereof_o thou_o shall_v sure_o die_v say_v god_n the_o threaten_v we_o see_v be_v peremptory_a and_o the_o execution_n we_o find_v be_v so_o too_o and_o therefore_o all_o sinner_n die_v and_o i_o can_v in_o the_o least_o doubt_n but_o that_o for_o the_o same_o reason_n a_o eternal_a punishment_n will_v be_v the_o certain_a vengeance_n upon_o a_o final_a impenitence_n but_o that_o be_v not_o so_o direct_v to_o my_o present_a purpose_n and_o therefore_o here_o i_o pass_v it_o by_o but_o to_o confirm_v what_o i_o be_o now_o upon_o i_o say_v that_o god_n do_v not_o pardon_v the_o death_n threaten_v in_o his_o law_n against_o sin_n no_o not_o in_o consideration_n of_o the_o death_n of_o our_o saviour_n and_o therefore_o notwithstanding_o his_o death_n and_o that_o too_o in_o our_o stead_n we_o see_v that_o all_o man_n and_o even_o those_o who_o hope_v for_o salvation_n by_o such_o his_o death_n do_v yet_o die_v what_o therefore_o our_o saviour_n in_o this_o case_n have_v puchase_v for_o we_o be_v not_o a_o freedom_n but_o a_o release_n from_o death_n and_o therefore_o that_o redemption_n from_o death_n which_o be_v the_o purchase_n of_o his_o blood_n be_v to_o be_v accomplish_v after_o we_o have_v be_v dead_a by_o a_o resurrection_n a_o resurrection_n than_o be_v to_o make_v good_a the_o purchase_n of_o his_o death_n and_o therefore_o his_o death_n purchase_v for_o we_o not_o a_o freedom_n but_o a_o release_n from_o our_o death_n by_o such_o resurrection_n now_o as_o his_o death_n be_v necessary_a for_o such_o a_o purchase_n so_o his_o incarnation_n be_v necessary_a in_o order_n to_o such_o his_o death_n and_o he_o be_v therefore_o make_v of_o the_o same_o blood_n with_o all_o mankind_n that_o by_o shed_v that_o blood_n for_o mankind_n he_o may_v after_o his_o own_o resurrection_n restore_v the_o life_n of_o all_o man_n which_o have_v be_v forfeit_v by_o adam_n transgression_n so_o that_o as_o his_o death_n be_v the_o meritorious_a expiation_n of_o sin_n and_o as_o a_o resurrection_n be_v the_o fruit_n and_o effect_n of_o such_o his_o expiation_n so_o his_o incarnation_n be_v a_o necessary_a forerunner_n of_o such_o his_o death_n and_o therefore_o before_o he_o can_v possible_o die_v for_o man_n and_o so_o purchase_v a_o redemption_n of_o man_n from_o death_n it_o be_v agreeable_a to_o the_o law_n of_o wisdom_n justice_n and_o reason_n that_o he_o shall_v become_v man_n himself_o but_o then_o how_o his_o death_n come_v to_o be_v of_o so_o valuable_a a_o price_n as_o to_o make_v so_o glorious_a a_o purchase_n we_o must_v leave_v to_o far_a enquiry_n for_o by_o that_o it_o will_v appear_v that_o as_o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o he_o shall_v die_v the_o death_n of_o a_o man_n so_o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o such_o his_o humanity_n shall_v be_v unite_v to_o the_o divinity_n and_o by_o both_o it_o will_v appear_v that_o god_n be_v manifest_v in_o the_o flesh_n to_o destroy_v the_o work_n of_o the_o devil_n and_o that_o therefore_o when_o the_o scripture_n tell_v we_o so_o much_o they_o tell_v we_o no_o more_o than_o what_o be_v agreeable_a to_o wisdom_n justice_n and_o reason_n chap._n vi_o the_o divinity_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n necessary_a for_o the_o expitation_n of_o man_n sin_n as_o well_o as_o his_o humanity_n some_o doctrinal_a inference_n a_o general_a proof_n that_o as_o our_o saviour_n do_v actual_o die_v so_o that_o he_o may_v just_o die_v for_o the_o expiation_n of_o sin_n have_v therefore_o see_v that_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n be_v qualify_v by_o his_o incarnation_n to_o make_v a_o expiation_n for_o sin_n by_o the_o sacrifice_n of_o himself_o and_o that_o such_o his_o qualification_n be_v agreeable_a to_o the_o law_n of_o justice_n and_o to_o the_o rule_n of_o reason_n and_o wisdom_n our_o next_o enquiry_n must_v be_v how_o such_o his_o sacrifice_n come_v to_o be_v of_o such_o a_o value_n as_o to_o be_v just_o sufficient_a to_o make_v good_a such_o a_o expiation_n for_o because_o the_o death_n of_o a_o innocent_a man_n if_o he_o be_v no_o more_o than_o a_o mere_a man_n be_v but_o the_o death_n of_o a_o creature_n and_o because_o no_o creature_n can_v by_o its_o punishment_n in_o another_o creature_n be_v stead_n expiate_v the_o sin_n of_o that_o other_o creature_n for_o if_o it_o can_v than_o a_o creature_n may_v by_o its_o own_o punishment_n
expiate_v its_o own_o sin_n both_o which_o we_o have_v already_o show_v to_o be_v impossible_a therefore_o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o as_o our_o saviour_n in_o order_n to_o his_o undertake_n the_o expiation_n of_o sin_n shall_v be_v a_o real_a man_n a_o creature_n so_o that_o he_o shall_v be_v more_o than_o a_o creature_n in_o order_n to_o the_o accomplish_n of_o such_o his_o undertake_n for_o though_o by_o become_a man_n he_o do_v accommodate_v his_o condition_n to_o his_o design_n of_o undertake_v a_o expiation_n as_o we_o have_v just_a now_o see_v yet_o for_o all_o that_o his_o humanity_n have_v sink_v under_o but_o but_o have_v not_o take_v away_o the_o burden_n have_v it_o not_o be_v support_v by_o his_o divinity_n for_o that_o that_o crush_v both_o angel_n and_o man_n and_o that_o too_o while_o they_o cope_v against_o it_o only_o with_o their_o own_o strength_n beyond_o the_o possibility_n of_o a_o recovery_n must_v for_o the_o same_o reason_n have_v crush_v he_o also_o when_o once_o he_o have_v put_v himself_o in_o man_n stead_n and_o by_o consequence_n into_o man_n condition_n have_v he_o not_o be_v endow_v with_o a_o power_n superior_a to_o both_o to_o enable_v he_o to_o subdue_v and_o conquer_v it_o and_o what_o power_n but_o that_o of_o god_n can_v we_o think_v sufficient_a to_o conquer_v sin_n and_o death_n and_o that_o too_o when_o they_o have_v get_v to_o such_o a_o height_n as_o to_o have_v infect_v and_o overrun_v the_o whole_a race_n of_o mankind_n can_v we_o think_v that_o when_o the_o contagion_n and_o mischief_n have_v spread_v itself_o so_o wide_o that_o even_o the_o best_a of_o man_n and_o those_o who_o grace_n be_v chief_o celebrate_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n himself_o can_v not_o preserve_v themselves_o from_o the_o overflow_a inundation_n i_o say_v can_v we_o think_v that_o in_o such_o a_o case_n any_o one_o single_a man_n be_v he_o no_o more_o than_o a_o man_n can_v have_v save_v himself_o from_o the_o mankind_n that_o ever_o do_v or_o ever_o shall_v live_v upon_o the_o earth_n must_v be_v god_n and_o god_n alone_o the_o extensive_a merit_n therefore_o of_o the_o death_n and_o suffering_n of_o the_o man_n christ_n jesus_n derive_v itself_o from_o the_o infinite_a dignity_n of_o jesus_n the_o son_n of_o god_n for_o have_v not_o this_o jesus_n be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n as_o well_o as_o the_o son_n of_o man_n he_o have_v never_o be_v the_o saviour_n of_o man_n and_o if_o there_o be_v not_o salvation_n in_o any_o other_o as_o in_o effect_n the_o whole_a book_n of_o god_n do_v tell_v we_o it_o may_v seem_v inconceivable_a how_o this_o seed_n of_o the_o woman_n shall_v extend_v this_o salvation_n and_o so_o break_v the_o serpent_n head_n from_o the_o day_n of_o adam_n to_o the_o consummation_n of_o all_o thing_n unless_o all_o thing_n be_v in_o his_o disposal_n that_o be_v unless_o he_o be_v god_n no_o he_o who_o consider_v the_o thing_n serious_o and_o wise_o may_v be_v satisfy_v not_o only_o by_o the_o scripture_n but_o by_o his_o own_o reason_n also_o that_o there_o be_v the_o same_o mercy_n and_o the_o same_o power_n require_v to_o redeem_v sinful_a man_n that_o be_v require_v to_o make_v man_n and_o that_o he_o only_o who_o do_v the_o first_o can_v do_v the_o last_o and_o therefore_o as_o we_o be_v teach_v by_o god_n that_o all_o thing_n be_v make_v by_o his_o word_n so_o be_v we_o also_o that_o this_o word_n be_v make_v flesh_n and_o that_o by_o be_v so_o make_v he_o become_v to_o we_o after_o we_o be_v dead_a in_o trespass_n and_o sin_n the_o word_n of_o life_n from_o all_o which_o and_o a_o great_a deal_n more_o that_o may_v be_v offer_v both_o from_o reason_n and_o from_o revelation_n some_o of_o which_o thing_n we_o have_v already_o speak_v to_o and_o some_o of_o which_o we_o shall_v have_v occasion_n to_o speak_v to_o hereafter_o we_o may_v be_v not_o only_o inform_v but_o assure_v that_o the_o great_a merit_n of_o our_o saviour_n expiation_n make_v for_o sin_n by_o his_o death_n and_o passion_n do_v arise_v from_o hence_o that_o his_o divinity_n be_v personal_o unite_v to_o that_o body_n which_o undergo_v such_o death_n or_o that_o nothing_o less_o than_o the_o death_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n can_v expiate_v that_o death_n which_o the_o law_n have_v denounce_v against_o the_o sin_n of_o man._n but_o because_o these_o thing_n will_v appear_v in_o a_o more_o full_a and_o clear_a light_n in_o the_o far_a prosecution_n of_o our_o design_n therefore_o we_o here_o leave_v they_o for_o a_o while_n and_o proceed_v for_o it_o have_v appear_v as_o to_o matter_n of_o fact_n and_o that_o too_o by_o most_o express_a declaration_n of_o scripture_n that_o our_o saviour_n be_v make_v a_o expiatory_a sacrifice_n for_o sin_n justice_n but_o before_o we_o proceed_v to_o speak_v to_o that_o it_o will_v be_v proper_a that_o we_o make_v some_o inference_n of_o weight_n and_o moment_n from_o what_o have_v be_v already_o speak_v and_o 1._o by_o what_o have_v be_v say_v it_o appear_v plain_o that_o though_o our_o saviour_n make_v good_a the_o purchase_n of_o our_o redemption_n by_o his_o death_n and_o resurrection_n yet_o that_o such_o his_o purchase_n shall_v not_o be_v full_o make_v over_o to_o we_o till_o our_o own_o resurrection_n that_o he_o make_v good_a the_o purchase_n his_o resurrection_n be_v a_o demonstration_n for_o because_o the_o wage_n of_o sin_n be_v death_n and_o because_o he_o die_v for_o our_o sin_n and_o not_o for_o his_o own_o and_o because_o after_o such_o his_o death_n he_o rise_v again_o and_o because_o such_o his_o resurrection_n be_v a_o discharge_n from_o the_o penalty_n of_o those_o sin_n for_o which_o he_o die_v i_o say_v from_o all_o these_o thing_n it_o be_v evident_a that_o he_o accomplish_v his_o design_a purchase_n that_o be_v he_o make_v good_a his_o expiation_n by_o his_o death_n and_o resurrection_n but_o then_o on_o the_o other_o side_n because_o it_o be_v most_o certain_a that_o we_o be_v not_o redeem_v from_o the_o curse_n or_o penalty_n of_o the_o law_n till_o we_o be_v redeem_v from_o death_n and_o because_o we_o be_v not_o redeem_v from_o death_n till_o we_o rise_v from_o the_o dead_a that_o be_v till_o our_o own_o resurrection_n therefore_o it_o be_v as_o evident_a that_o till_o such_o our_o resurrection_n we_o be_v not_o put_v into_o the_o possession_n of_o such_o his_o purchase_n and_o therefore_o strict_o speak_v no_o man_n be_v he_o who_o he_o will_v be_v â—actually_o justify_v in_o this_o life_n for_o because_o every_o man_n that_o life_n shall_v certain_o die_v and_o because_o death_n be_v the_o penalty_n threaten_v to_o sin_n by_o the_o law_n it_o therefore_o grate_v too_o hard_o upon_o our_o common_a sense_n to_o tell_v we_o that_o any_o man_n be_v then_o justify_v when_o he_o be_v not_o only_o liable_a to_o the_o vengeance_n of_o the_o law_n but_o when_o he_o be_v also_o sure_a in_o a_o little_a time_n to_o undergo_v such_o vengeance_n if_o therefore_o any_o man_n be_v according_a to_o a_o gospel-estimate_n of_o righteousness_n a_o righteous_a or_o good_a man_n we_o may_v upon_o that_o account_n say_v and_o we_o shall_v say_v true_a that_o he_o be_v in_o a_o justifiable_a condition_n but_o we_o can_v true_o say_v that_o he_o be_v a_o justify_v person_n justification_n then_o in_o the_o execution_n belong_v to_o a_o future_a life_n and_o not_o to_o this_o and_o when_o we_o shall_v come_v to_o discourse_v on_o the_o second_o thing_n contain_v in_o a_o gospel-salvation_n which_o be_v a_o restitution_n to_o holiness_n and_o the_o consequent_a of_o it_o the_o gift_n of_o eternal_a life_n we_o shall_v then_o be_v more_o full_o satisfy_v that_o justification_n can_v belong_v to_o any_o man_n in_o this_o world_n because_o no_o man_n in_o this_o
world_n be_v restore_v to_o that_o holiness_n which_o be_v lose_v by_o the_o transgression_n of_o the_o law_n and_o because_o no_o man_n shall_v be_v complete_o and_o actual_o justify_v till_o he_o last_o our_o condition_n in_o this_o world_n be_v such_o that_o there_o will_v of_o necessity_n be_v require_v time_n for_o our_o performance_n of_o such_o condition_n therefore_o we_o do_v conclude_v that_o as_o our_o saviour_n have_v purchase_v for_o we_o such_o condition_n in_o order_n to_o our_o redemption_n so_o have_v he_o also_o purchase_v for_o we_o a_o long_a term_n in_o which_o we_o may_v perform_v such_o condition_n for_o it_o be_v evident_a that_o the_o denunciation_n of_o the_o law_n upon_o the_o transgression_n of_o it_o be_v in_o the_o day_n thou_o eat_v thereof_o thou_o shall_v necessary_a for_o such_o their_o performance_n such_o be_v his_o word_n the_o succour_n and_o assistance_n of_o his_o spirit_n his_o sacrament_n and_o whatever_o else_o do_v usual_o come_v under_o the_o title_n of_o mean_n of_o grace_n for_o it_o be_v not_o conceivable_a that_o our_o saviour_n shall_v purchase_v for_o we_o the_o end_n and_o yet_o leave_v we_o without_o the_o mean_n which_o be_v necessary_a for_o the_o bring_n about_o such_o end_n but_o yet_o because_o the_o mean_n to_o enable_v we_o to_o perform_v the_o condition_n require_v of_o we_o in_o order_n to_o our_o salvation_n be_v not_o nor_o indeed_o can_v possible_o be_v that_o very_a salvation_n for_o which_o they_o be_v design_v or_o employ_v as_o mean_n and_o because_o while_o we_o live_v in_o this_o world_n we_o be_v require_v and_o it_o be_v necessary_a in_o itself_o that_o we_o always_o have_v and_o also_o employ_v such_o mean_n to_o the_o purpose_n of_o our_o justification_n and_o last_o because_o it_o be_v so_o far_o from_o be_v necessary_a that_o it_o be_v neither_o proper_a no_o nor_o wise_a to_o employ_v any_o mean_n for_o any_o end_n already_o attain_v therefore_o what_o we_o observe_v under_o our_o last_o head_n will_v still_o remain_v true_a and_o that_o be_v that_o no_o man_n be_v actual_o justify_v in_o this_o life_n 3._o from_o what_o have_v be_v say_v we_o take_v notice_n that_o though_o we_o have_v see_v our_o life_n be_v continue_v in_o consideration_n of_o our_o saviour_n purchase_n though_o affliction_n be_v lay_v upon_o we_o during_o the_o reprieve_n and_o though_o such_o employ_v chief_o indeed_o for_o our_o future_a reformation_n but_o at_o least_o for_o our_o future_a restraint_n and_o so_o be_v one_o and_o a_o great_a branch_n too_o of_o what_o we_o call_v restrain_v grace_n as_o therefore_o we_o take_v notice_n under_o our_o last_o head_n that_o the_o reprieve_n of_o man_n from_o the_o immediate_a execution_n of_o the_o sentence_n of_o the_o law_n be_v the_o purchase_n of_o our_o saviour_n and_o that_o so_o man_n life_n come_v to_o be_v continue_v notwithstanding_o his_o transgression_n so_o under_o this_o head_n we_o may_v observe_v that_o though_o sin_n during_o such_o continuance_n of_o life_n can_v be_v restrain_v by_o death_n yet_o the_o just_a merciful_a and_o alwise_a god_n have_v not_o even_o in_o such_o circumstance_n leave_v it_o without_o all_o restraint_n but_o have_v by_o affliction_n fit_v such_o a_o curb_n for_o it_o which_o notwithstanding_o the_o saviour_n purchase_n be_v a_o irrefragable_a proof_n of_o his_o justice_n but_o though_o it_o be_v so_o do_v in_o no_o wise_n encroach_v upon_o such_o purchase_n but_o rather_o promote_v the_o design_n of_o it_o for_o a_o life_n continue_v in_o order_n to_o the_o performance_n of_o those_o condition_n by_o the_o performance_n of_o which_o man_n in_o and_z through_o his_o saviour_n may_v obtain_v salvation_n a_o life_n i_o say_v continue_v to_o such_o a_o the_o last_o case_n the_o prevention_n have_v be_v necessary_a whereas_o in_o the_o first_o it_o be_v at_o the_o most_o but_o possible_a yet_o it_o must_v be_v confess_v also_o that_o it_o be_v most_o they_o good_a it_o be_v necessary_a in_o order_n to_o either_o that_o it_o be_v leave_v to_o their_o own_o choice_n whether_o they_o will_v improve_v it_o to_o either_o or_o both_o design_n or_o no_o for_o there_o can_v be_v no_o goodness_n at_o all_o without_o such_o freedom_n by_o all_o which_o we_o may_v at_o last_o understand_v that_o though_o affliction_n as_o well_o as_o death_n be_v the_o wage_n of_o sin_n and_o though_o god_n do_v not_o let_v the_o reprieve_a life_n of_o a_o sinner_n pass_v on_o without_o the_o token_n of_o his_o displeasure_n that_o be_v in_o the_o present_a case_n without_o affliction_n yet_o that_o it_o be_v owe_v to_o our_o saviour_n that_o all_o such_o affliction_n be_v employ_v
that_o so_o he_o may_v be_v entitle_v to_o eternal_a happiness_n and_o because_o no_o man_n can_v warrantable_o say_v how_o he_o shall_v not_o be_v unless_o he_o do_v assign_v some_o way_n how_o he_o scripture_n give_v we_o of_o this_o matter_n 1._o for_o the_o obedience_n by_o which_o believer_n be_v to_o be_v judge_v at_o the_o last_o day_n be_v that_o obedience_n which_o be_v require_v of_o they_o in_o this_o world_n and_o according_o as_o man_n have_v behave_v themselves_o here_o so_o they_o shall_v receive_v the_o reward_n of_o such_o their_o behaviour_n there_o so_o st._n paul_n in_o the_o second_o to_o the_o corinthian_n chap._n 5._o ver_fw-la 10._o we_o shall_v all_o appear_v before_o the_o judgment-seat_n of_o christ_n that_o every_o one_o may_v receive_v the_o thing_n do_v in_o his_o body_n according_a to_o that_o he_o have_v do_v whether_o it_o be_v good_a or_o bad_a by_o which_o we_o may_v understand_v that_o the_o distribution_n to_o be_v make_v by_o justice_n upon_o a_o resurrection_n have_v a_o eye_n to_o the_o life_n of_o man_n before_o their_o death_n and_o from_o thence_o we_o may_v infer_v that_o they_o be_v not_o to_o be_v guide_v by_o a_o infuse_a holiness_n which_o do_v even_o by_o those_o who_o plead_v for_o it_o not_o take_v place_n till_o after_o the_o resurrection_n for_o it_o be_v agree_v on_o all_o hand_n that_o no_o man_n holiness_n be_v perfect_a in_o this_o life_n now_o it_o do_v not_o look_v altogether_o so_o rational_a nor_o so_o agreeable_a to_o the_o measure_n of_o justice_n or_o the_o revelation_n of_o scripture_n that_o a_o man_n shall_v be_v judge_v according_a to_o what_o he_o have_v do_v in_o the_o body_n before_o his_o death_n and_o yet_o that_o he_o shall_v by_o the_o last_o judicial_a sentence_n be_v everlasting_o reward_v for_o a_o holiness_n infuse_v by_o god_n after_o his_o resurrection_n and_o therefore_o if_o we_o will_v adhere_v to_o reason_n justice_n and_o revelation_n we_o must_v then_o there_o can_v be_v no_o doubt_n but_o that_o their_o right_n to_o the_o reward_n appoint_v to_o such_o obedience_n will_v be_v just_a and_o good_a too_o and_o that_o it_o may_v be_v just_o account_v they_o we_o have_v as_o we_o believe_v make_v it_o good_a already_o but_o a_o holiness_n infuse_v by_o god_n after_o a_o resurrection_n can_v in_o no_o sense_n nor_o in_o any_o congruity_n be_v account_v and_o much_o less_o can_v it_o be_v a_o obedience_n pay_v by_o man_n while_o in_o the_o body_n to_o the_o law_n and_o therefore_o it_o can_v in_o any_o sense_n or_o in_o any_o congruity_n be_v such_o a_o holiness_n to_o which_o the_o reward_n allot_v only_o to_o obedience_n can_v belong_v and_o therefore_o neither_o can_v eternal_a happiness_n be_v bestow_v upon_o believer_n in_o consideration_n of_o such_o a_o infuse_a holiness_n in_o one_o word_n infuse_v holiness_n in_o order_n to_o man_n salvation_n do_v in_o no_o wise_n agree_v to_o that_o account_n which_o the_o scripture_n give_v we_o of_o the_o last_o judgement_n and_o though_o it_o pretend_v to_o magnify_v god_n mercy_n yet_o it_o take_v no_o care_n in_o the_o mean_a while_n to_o assert_v many_o express_a testimony_n of_o scripture_n that_o that_o will_v be_v the_o work_n of_o the_o last_o day_n therefore_o for_o that_o reason_n alone_o if_o yet_o there_o be_v no_o other_o we_o can_v ascribe_v a_o future_a happiness_n the_o happy_a just_a and_o final_a sentence_n of_o that_o day_n to_o such_o a_o infuse_a holiness_n no_o the_o holiness_n for_o which_o we_o be_v to_o be_v reward_v in_o a_o future_a life_n must_v be_v a_o obedience_n practise_v in_o this_o life_n the_o duty_n be_v lay_v upon_o man_n by_o the_o law_n here_o and_o the_o reward_n stand_v engage_v to_o the_o performance_n of_o such_o duty_n and_o if_o the_o righteousness_n of_o man_n at_o the_o resurrection_n be_v not_o a_o obedience_n pay_v to_o the_o law_n then_o when_o the_o law_n require_v such_o obedience_n the_o reward_n promise_v by_o the_o law_n can_v in_o no_o wise_n belong_v to_o such_o righteousness_n and_o therefore_o to_o fancy_n a_o reward_n for_o a_o holiness_n in_o which_o the_o law_n be_v not_o at_o all_o concern_v as_o it_o be_v not_o in_o a_o infuse_a holiness_n be_v to_o have_v no_o regard_n to_o the_o law_n at_o all_o for_o happiness_n bestow_v in_o consideration_n of_o a_o infuse_a holiness_n may_v as_o well_o be_v grant_v without_o the_o law_n as_o with_o it_o nay_o indeed_o much_o better_o because_o have_v there_o be_v no_o law_n at_o all_o than_o such_o a_o management_n have_v not_o affront_v the_o law_n whereas_o the_o law_n have_v be_v once_o settle_v to_o bestow_v the_o reward_n promise_v by_o the_o law_n upon_o a_o holiness_n which_o have_v no_o eye_n to_o the_o law_n as_o a_o infuse_a holiness_n have_v not_o be_v to_o slight_a and_o overlook_v the_o law_n for_o it_o allow_v the_o law_n to_o have_v nothing_o to_o do_v in_o the_o allotment_n of_o such_o a_o reward_n it_o may_v be_v plausible_o object_v in_o this_o place_n that_o while_o i_o vindicate_v the_o cause_n which_o i_o undertake_v against_o one_o adversary_n i_o give_v it_o up_o to_o another_o because_o while_o i_o assert_v that_o every_o man_n shall_v at_o the_o last_o day_n be_v judge_v according_a to_o his_o behaviour_n in_o this_o world_n i_o do_v in_o effect_n refer_v the_o reward_n that_o shall_v then_o be_v adjudge_v to_o believer_n to_o such_o their_o behaviour_n that_o be_v in_o the_o present_a case_n to_o their_o obedience_n in_o this_o world_n and_o that_o because_o i_o do_v so_o i_o therefore_o pull_v down_o with_o one_o hand_n that_o which_o before_o i_o have_v set_v up_o with_o another_o viz._n the_o imputation_n of_o their_o saviour_n righteousness_n in_o order_n to_o their_o salvation_n 1._o but_o this_o objection_n be_v ground_v upon_o a_o mistake_n which_o mistake_n be_v
our_o saviour_n who_o as_o we_o have_v show_v have_v a_o absolute_a and_o uncontrollable_a power_n to_o dispose_v of_o his_o own_o life_n as_o he_o himself_o please_v do_v put_v himself_o in_o our_o stead_n become_v a_o sacrifice_n for_o we_o and_o so_o in_o his_o own_o person_n suffer_v that_o death_n which_o we_o by_o our_o sin_n have_v deserve_v but_o then_o to_o the_o make_v good_a of_o our_o present_a proposition_n we_o add_v that_o as_o he_o suffer_v death_n for_o the_o expiation_n of_o our_o sin_n so_o if_o he_o have_v not_o finish_v and_o complete_v such_o expiation_n he_o have_v not_o rose_n again_o for_o so_o long_o as_o the_o gild_n remain_v so_o long_o the_o punishment_n be_v and_o that_o too_o in_o justice_n to_o be_v continue_v for_o in_o such_o case_n there_o have_v be_v the_o same_o reason_n for_o the_o continuation_n of_o the_o punishment_n that_o there_o be_v for_o its_o first_o infliction_n and_o therefore_o as_o it_o be_v first_o inflict_v for_o a_o gild_n so_o it_o must_v have_v be_v continue_v for_o the_o continuation_n of_o such_o gild_n from_o which_o we_o do_v infer_v that_o if_o he_o be_v just_o acquit_v from_o the_o continuation_n of_o the_o punishment_n than_o he_o be_v also_o acquit_v from_o the_o gild_n and_o if_o he_o be_v just_o acquit_v from_o the_o gild_n that_o then_o he_o have_v by_o his_o punishment_n make_v a_o sufficient_a expiation_n for_o it_o and_o that_o he_o be_v acquit_v from_o the_o punishment_n due_a to_o the_o gild_n and_o that_o he_o be_v just_o acquit_v too_o the_o resurrection_n single_o and_o by_o itself_o will_v make_v out_o a_o undoubted_a and_o uncontrollable_a argument_n for_o our_o natural_a and_o common_a sense_n do_v assure_v we_o that_o a_o resurrection_n to_o life_n be_v a_o acquittance_n and_o discharge_v from_o death_n and_o reason_n will_v tell_v we_o that_o because_o a_o discharge_v from_o death_n can_v only_o come_v from_o god_n and_o because_o god_n can_v but_o be_v just_a therefore_o that_o acquittance_n and_o discharge_v that_o be_v make_v by_o a_o resurrection_n must_v needs_o be_v just_a too_o and_o therefore_o from_o the_o whole_a we_o may_v infer_v that_o the_o resurrection_n of_o our_o saviour_n from_o that_o death_n which_o he_o suffer_v as_o the_o punishment_n of_o our_o sin_n be_v a_o demonstrative_a argument_n and_o proof_n that_o by_o his_o death_n he_o have_v pay_v a_o sufficient_a ransom_n and_o have_v make_v a_o sufficient_a expiation_n for_o such_o sin_n so_o that_o strict_o speak_v in_o his_o death_n consist_v the_o punishment_n of_o our_o sin_n in_o the_o infinite_a value_n of_o his_o death_n consist_v the_o expiation_n of_o our_o sin_n and_o in_o the_o resurrection_n appear_v the_o full_a proof_n and_o evidence_n of_o such_o his_o expiation_n before_o we_o part_v with_o this_o head_n it_o may_v not_o be_v improper_a to_o take_v notice_n that_o because_o his_o death_n be_v of_o infinite_a value_n that_o therefore_o there_o be_v a_o sufficient_a it_o down_o and_o so_o he_o may_v for_o any_o thing_n that_o justice_n can_v offer_v to_o the_o contrary_a have_v descend_v alive_a from_o the_o cross_n after_o he_o have_v once_o die_v upon_o it_o nor_o need_v his_o resurrection_n in_o point_n of_o justice_n to_o have_v be_v defer_v to_o the_o three_o day_n but_o may_v have_v god_n so_o please_v have_v be_v cause_v on_o the_o first_o but_o though_o it_o may_v just_o have_v be_v do_v so_o yet_o we_o do_v not_o find_v that_o it_o be_v actual_o so_o do_v for_o the_o scripture_n tell_v we_o that_o he_o do_v not_o rise_v till_o the_o three_o day_n from_o whence_o we_o observe_v that_o as_o he_o die_v to_o save_v man_n from_o sin_n so_o he_o do_v for_o some_o time_n continue_v in_o a_o state_n of_o death_n to_o satisfy_v and_o assure_v our_o faith_n the_o first_o be_v the_o purchase_n of_o our_o salvation_n the_o last_o be_v our_o assurance_n of_o and_o therefore_o also_o our_o comfort_n in_o such_o a_o purchase_n by_o which_o we_o may_v understand_v that_o his_o love_n be_v express_v to_o we_o even_o in_o the_o grave_a and_o though_o as_o the_o psalmist_n speak_v no_o man_n remember_v god_n in_o the_o pit_n yet_o we_o may_v so_o also_o he_o do_v by_o the_o same_o resurrection_n so_o far_o subdue_v death_n as_o to_o secure_v a_o future_a and_o glorious_a resurrection_n to_o all_o those_o who_o be_v so_o far_o plant_v into_o the_o likeness_n of_o his_o death_n as_o to_o be_v dead_a to_o sin_n and_o alive_a to_o god_n for_o if_o we_o live_v to_o he_o while_o we_o live_v here_o we_o may_v from_o his_o resurrection_n have_v a_o comfortable_a assurance_n that_o notwithstanding_o we_o die_v for_o a_o time_n as_o he_o do_v yet_o we_o shall_v be_v raise_v again_o and_o live_v with_o he_o for_o evermore_o to_o this_o have_v therefore_o satisfy_v the_o debt_n because_o he_o be_v release_v from_o the_o penalty_n so_o now_o we_o do_v conclude_v that_o because_o the_o debt_n so_o discharge_v be_v we_o and_o not_o his_o own_o therefore_o the_o benefit_n of_o the_o release_n must_v redound_v to_o we_o as_o well_o as_o to_o he_o for_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v unjust_a in_o the_o creditor_n to_o detain_v we_o in_o
