be_v the_o most_o precious_a of_o all_o other_o precious_a thing_n we_o have_v also_o declare_v that_o abraham_n be_v not_o tempt_v only_o in_o that_o god_n command_v he_o to_o kill_v his_o son_n but_o in_o that_o it_o seem_v that_o all_o the_o promise_n which_o god_n before_o have_v make_v unto_o he_o be_v all_o as_o a_o man_n will_v say_v quite_o and_o clean_o frustrate_v and_o void_a for_o they_o all_o depend_v upon_o that_o which_o we_o have_v already_o hear_v that_o the_o bless_a seed_n shall_v be_v raise_v in_o isaak_n and_o therefore_o it_o seem_v that_o god_n mean_v to_o very_a deed_n the_o seed_n which_o be_v promise_v he_o how_o then_o can_v abraham_n be_v content_v to_o have_v his_o son_n to_o die_v and_o yet_o to_o have_v the_o promise_n of_o god_n to_o stand_v in_o full_a strength_n power_n and_o virtue_n now_o the_o apostle_n say_v that_o by_o faith_n abraham_n offer_v his_o son_n isaac_n 11.17_o hebr._n 11.17_o so_o that_o by_o this_o we_o be_v let_v to_o understand_v that_o abraham_n fall_n out_o as_o it_o will_v rest_v whole_o upon_o the_o word_n and_o promise_n of_o god_n and_o as_o for_o the_o contrariety_n which_o may_v seem_v to_o be_v between_o of_o thing_n not_o see_v agree_v with_o the_o word_n of_o the_o apostle_n in_o his_o epistle_n to_o the_o roman_n say_v we_o hope_v not_o for_o the_o thing_n which_o we_o see_v 8.24_o rom._n 8.24_o but_o for_o the_o thing_n we_o see_v not_o yea_o even_o for_o thing_n that_o seem_v to_o be_v impossible_a sith_o than_o it_o be_v so_o that_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n do_v not_o set_v before_o our_o eye_n that_o which_o be_v contain_v in_o they_o we_o must_v as_o i_o have_v already_o say_v when_o we_o speak_v of_o faith_n look_v further_o than_o unto_o the_o world_n and_o how_o be_v that_o to_o wit_n we_o must_v not_o measure_v the_o infinite_a power_n of_o god_n with_o the_o mean_n which_o be_v set_v before_o we_o and_o as_o we_o comprehend_v they_o but_o when_o as_o we_o shall_v have_v these_o toy_n in_o our_o head_n as_o to_o think_v that_o this_o or_o that_o can_v never_o come_v to_o pass_v and_o that_o there_o seem_v to_o be_v a_o very_a contradiction_n in_o the_o case_n yet_o let_v we_o thus_o conclude_v without_o all_o doubt_n god_n will_v perform_v whatsoever_o he_o have_v speak_v but_o we_o will_v say_v how_o can_v it_o possible_o be_v oh_o let_v not_o we_o judge_v of_o it_o we_o must_v here_o bring_v under_o our_o own_o sense_n and_o wit_n and_o do_v god_n this_o honour_n to_o say_v that_o he_o be_v faithful_a but_o we_o know_v not_o what_o will_v be_v the_o issue_n thereof_o or_o else_o think_v that_o all_o be_v shut_v up_o and_o close_v here_o than_o we_o see_v what_o we_o be_v to_o learn_v out_o of_o these_o word_n of_o the_o apostle_n now_o if_o abraham_n have_v reason_v like_o natural_a man_n he_o may_v have_v say_v that_o god_n be_v not_o contrary_a unto_o himself_o for_o he_o tell_v i_o that_o i_o shall_v have_v seed_n by_o isaak_n and_o that_o from_o thence_o the_o saviour_n of_o the_o world_n shall_v come_v and_o i_o must_v not_o forget_v this_o and_o yet_o at_o this_o present_a he_o have_v command_v i_o to_o kill_v isaak_n here_o be_v no_o order_n in_o this_o for_o i_o will_v take_v he_o at_o his_o first_o word_n and_o that_o must_v stand_v thus_o we_o see_v that_o abraham_n may_v after_o this_o manner_n have_v excuse_v himself_o and_o yet_o have_v be_v a_o rebel_n unto_o god_n under_o the_o colour_n of_o obedience_n but_o what_o do_v he_o he_o consider_v with_o himself_o that_o god_n be_v almighty_a and_o therefore_o able_a to_o accomplish_v whatsoever_o promise_n he_o have_v make_v concern_v isaak_n you_o say_v well_o sir_n but_o what_o if_o he_o have_v die_v how_o then_o and_o what_o of_o that_o as_o his_o opinion_n to_o measure_v the_o power_n of_o god_n but_o hoodwink_v himself_o and_o say_v thus_o god_n will_v so_o bring_v this_o matter_n to_o pass_v as_o that_o i_o shall_v be_v astonish_v to_o see_v it_o but_o it_o be_v not_o for_o i_o to_o ask_v how_o and_o which_o way_n he_o will_v do_v it_o for_o i_o must_v keep_v i_o within_o compass_n until_o such_o time_n as_o god_n show_v i_o that_o then_o when_o see_o how_o we_o be_v to_o honour_n god_n that_o be_v when_o as_o we_o speak_v of_o the_o acceptation_n of_o his_o promise_n we_o hold_v we_o to_o they_o and_o resolve_v to_o go_v whithersoever_o he_o command_v we_o to_o wite_v let_v we_o know_v that_o the_o issue_n of_o death_n be_v in_o his_o hand_n as_o in_o the_o three_o score_n and_o eight_o psalm_n it_o be_v say_v and_o servant_n and_o his_o son_n here_o moses_n more_o especial_o express_v that_o which_o have_v be_v heretofore_o touch_v to_o wite_v that_o god_n try_v the_o faith_n of_o abraham_n to_o the_o full_a in_o hold_v he_o in_o suspense_n it_o be_v sufficient_a if_o abraham_n have_v but_o cut_v the_o wood_n and_o have_v go_v but_o a_o arrow_n shoot_v only_o to_o have_v kill_v his_o son_n but_o he_o must_v take_v a_o good_a long_a journey_n in_o hand_n he_o can_v not_o tell_v whither_o nor_o yet_o how_o fair_a and_o withal_o night_n also_o approach_v which_o always_o bring_v with_o it_o more_o sorrow_n grief_n and_o care_n for_o whensoever_o any_o man_n be_v full_a of_o pensivenes_n and_o care_n no_o doubt_n of_o it_o his_o pain_n and_o grief_n be_v far_o more_o intolerable_a in_o the_o for_o you_o shall_v have_v many_o man_n show_v great_a and_o singular_a affection_n in_o their_o obedience_n towards_o god_n and_o yet_o many_o time_n it_o will_v show_v itself_o to_o be_v but_o like_o a_o puff_n of_o wind_n which_o soon_o vanish_v away_o as_o we_o have_v see_v too_o too_o much_o experience_n thereof_o wherefore_o let_v we_o not_o think_v it_o strange_a if_o god_n deliver_v not_o we_o incontinent_a when_o as_o we_o shall_v be_v assail_v to_o fight_v and_o to_o have_v our_o faith_n prove_v albeit_o we_o conquer_v not_o the_o first_o day_n but_o we_o must_v fight_v continual_o and_o not_o think_v that_o god_n pass_v measure_n but_o rather_o let_v we_o choose_v to_o follow_v the_o example_n of_o our_o father_n abraham_n in_o this_o behalf_n now_o it_o be_v soon_o and_o reproach_n that_o will_v light_v upon_o he_o and_o that_o every_o man_n will_v think_v it_o be_v do_v rather_o like_o a_o frantic_a man_n than_o a_o service_n which_o can_v any_o way_n please_v god_n since_o i_o say_v he_o understand_v this_o and_o yet_o care_v not_o how_o ignominious_o man_n will_v judge_v of_o he_o in_o commit_v a_o fault_n clean_o against_o nature_n and_o such_o a_o enormous_a and_o detestable_a cruelty_n as_o can_v not_o be_v a_o great_a and_o yet_o will_v not_o desist_v from_o the_o pursue_v thereof_o let_v we_o learn_v after_o his_o example_n that_o although_o all_o the_o world_n shall_v find_v fault_n with_o we_o and_o spit_v in_o our_o face_n and_o be_v condemn_v where_o we_o shall_v be_v commend_v for_o our_o true_a serve_v of_o god_n yet_o let_v not_o we_o at_o any_o hand_n cease_v to_o obey_v and_o do_v whatsoever_o he_o command_v for_o if_o this_o constancy_n be_v not_o in_o we_o without_o doubt_n we_o serve_v our_o own_o ambition_n and_o so_o much_o lessen_v for_o when_o god_n work_v by_o his_o minister_n yet_o lose_v he_o thereby_o no_o part_n of_o his_o dignity_n neither_o be_v his_o power_n thereby_o by_o any_o whit_n obscure_v or_o yet_o any_o thing_n of_o that_o which_o he_o give_v take_v from_o he_o but_o it_o please_v he_o to_o use_v these_o mean_n with_o this_o condition_n that_o man_n shall_v always_o come_v again_o unto_o his_o mouth_n until_o such_o time_n as_o he_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n and_o therefore_o we_o see_v by_o the_o circumstance_n of_o the_o time_n that_o the_o righteousness_n of_o faith_n whereof_o that_o which_o erst_o i_o touch_v that_o be_v we_o must_v seek_v for_o our_o righteousness_n else_o where_o then_o in_o ourselves_o because_o there_o be_v none_o in_o us._n and_o see_v why_o s._n paul_n so_o great_o insi_v and_o stand_v upon_o the_o curse_n of_o mankind_n when_o as_o he_o will_v drive_v we_o to_o this_o point_n that_o god_n free_o justifi_v we_o for_o there_o he_o show_v that_o the_o heathen_a be_v also_o condemn_v although_o they_o have_v neither_o law_n scripture_n nor_o prophet_n and_o say_v that_o they_o be_v of_o themselves_o already_o damn_v and_o need_v never_o water_n as_o to_o be_v account_v righteous_a before_o god_n by_o our_o work_n and_o to_o be_v accept_v of_o he_o by_o the_o virtue_n and_o power_n of_o faith_n for_o as_o saint_n paul_n say_v if_o we_o shall_v bring_v any_o thing_n that_o be_v we_o no_o doubt_n of_o it_o god_n shall_v then_o be_v behold_v unto_o we_o although_o we_o be_v neither_o whole_o nor_o yet_o perfect_o righteous_a yet_o contrariety_n be_v this_o because_o work_n be_v make_v merit_n and_o that_o which_o be_v more_o we_o can_v do_v no_o good_a work_n but_o by_o faith_n as_o we_o have_v already_o say_v and_o hereafter_o shall_v be_v more_o large_o handle_v for_o the_o cause_n and_o the_o effect_n be_v not_o contrary_n but_o when_o we_o will_v establish_v any_o merit_n in_o our_o work_n that_o be_v to_o say_v when_o as_o we_o will_v go_v about_o to_o make_v they_o available_a to_o obtain_v favour_n at_o god_n hand_n &_o to_o satisfy_v for_o our_o sin_n to_o be_v short_a when_o as_o we_o will_v bring_v they_o in_o to_o serve_v we_o for_o our_o salvation_n this_o be_v utter_o to_o overthrow_v faith_n &_o by_o this_o mean_n make_v it_o of_o no_o worth_n thus_o than_o we_o see_v that_o it_o be_v not_o without_o cause_n why_o saint_n paul_n conclude_v thus_o that_o see_v we_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n then_o be_v work_n of_o no_o value_n but_o must_v be_v quite_o and_o clean_o shut_v out_o of_o the_o door_n for_o any_o opinion_n that_o we_o ought_v to_o attribute_v unto_o merit_n or_o virtue_n whereby_o to_o please_v god_n withal_o now_o we_o be_v here_o eftsoon_o to_o note_v that_o god_n of_o his_o find_v in_o we_o never_o so_o little_a goodness_n no_o doubt_n of_o it_o he_o will_v accept_v of_o it_o wherefore_o we_o must_v conclude_v that_o because_o we_o be_v wicked_a we_o be_v unrighteous_a and_o altogether_o accurse_v and_o can_v no_o way_n be_v bless_v without_o god_n love_v us._n now_o if_o he_o love_v we_o he_o must_v needs_o eftsoon_o allow_v and_o like_v of_o we_o and_o if_o he_o allow_v and_o like_v of_o we_o we_o must_v needs_o be_v righteous_a these_o be_v principle_n which_o we_o ought_v to_o understand_v howbeit_o we_o be_v yet_o to_o know_v that_o we_o can_v be_v bless_v without_o god_n love_v we_o for_o so_o long_o as_o he_o be_v our_o enemy_n alas_o in_o what_o a_o woeful_a estate_n and_o condition_n be_v we_o whereupon_o then_o depend_v our_o felicity_n forsooth_o even_o herein_o when_o as_o god_n love_v us._n we_o be_v now_o to_o consider_v how_o it_o be_v that_o he_o love_v we_o he_o must_v needs_o allow_v and_o like_v of_o we_o as_o i_o have_v already_o say_v for_o he_o can_v deny_v himself_o for_o if_o he_o reject_v &_o abhor_v we_o how_o shall_v we_o be_v reconcile_v unto_o he_o now_o let_v we_o see_v by_o what_o mean_v for_o god_n can_v be_v separate_v we_o with_o all_o our_o leasing_n and_o race_n we_o out_o of_o his_o roll_n and_o how_o â—â—all_v god_n then_o allow_v &_o like_v of_o we_o well_o sir_n we_o must_v be_v righteous_a now_o what_o righteousness_n be_v it_o it_o be_v not_o that_o righteousness_n which_o we_o suppose_v to_o have_v in_o our_o work_n ne_o that_o we_o be_v able_a to_o acquire_v ourselves_o before_o he_o or_o yet_o satisfy_v by_o any_o duty_n that_o we_o can_v perform_v none_o of_o all_o this_o will_v serve_v our_o turny_n what_o righteousness_n then_o be_v it_o forsooth_o even_o this_o that_o god_n must_v pardon_v our_o sin_n forget_v our_o iniquity_n and_o not_o impute_v our_o offence_n unto_o us._n and_o therefore_o david_n have_v reason_n to_o use_v these_o three_o manner_n of_o speech_n for_o a_o man_n will_v think_v this_o to_o be_v a_o superfluous_a kind_n of_o language_n but_o he_o especial_o reitterate_v this_o because_o the_o condition_n of_o man_n wherein_o he_o be_v bear_v and_o drown_v over_o head_n &_o ear_n be_v not_o only_o a_o bottomless_a depth_n until_o such_o time_n as_o god_n draw_v he_o out_o thereof_o but_o the_o bottomless_a depth_n of_o all_o depth_n that_o be_v it_o be_v the_o bottomless_a depth_n of_o hell_n and_o therefore_o god_n must_v deal_v herein_o after_o a_o singular_a manner_n and_o therefore_o we_o see_v why_o he_o also_o soon_o after_o speak_v and_o that_o in_o the_o spirit_n in_o who_o be_v no_o deceit_n for_o it_o be_v meet_v we_o shall_v understand_v how_o necessary_a the_o mercy_n of_o god_n be_v for_o we_o because_o our_o sin_n be_v so_o see_v present_a death_n before_o we_o and_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n arm_v to_o execute_v the_o sentence_n of_o the_o curse_n which_o he_o pronounce_v against_o us._n and_o this_o be_v the_o definition_n of_o the_o righteousness_n which_o we_o be_v to_o note_v if_o we_o will_v have_v it_o right_o define_v we_o see_v also_o why_o it_o be_v say_v in_o the_o fifteen_o of_o the_o act_n where_o saint_n paul_n speak_v of_o the_o ceremony_n of_o the_o law_n say_v that_o we_o must_v be_v justify_v by_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n of_o all_o the_o thing_n whereof_o the_o law_n of_o moses_n can_v not_o iustefie_v us._n this_o word_n the_o law_n carry_v here_o a_o long_a tail_n with_o it_o for_o we_o must_v understand_v why_o s._n paul_n especial_o speak_v of_o the_o ceremony_n of_o the_o law_n when_o as_o hesaith_o that_o work_v not_o any_o way_n make_v we_o acceptable_a before_o god_n now_o the_o papist_n and_o many_o of_o the_o ancient_a father_n which_o know_v not_o the_o scripture_n but_o be_v as_o a_o man_n will_v say_v half_a philosopher_n be_v wonderful_o trouble_v about_o this_o word_n the_o law_n and_o though_o that_o saint_n paul_n contend_v not_o about_o moral_a work_n as_o they_o call_v they_o that_o be_v to_o say_v that_o he_o go_v not_o about_o to_o deny_v that_o we_o be_v not_o righteous_a before_o god_n if_o we_o live_v chaste_o temperate_o sober_o wrong_v no_o man_n and_o hold_v all_o such_o other_o like_o moral_a virtue_n they_o think_v that_o saint_n paul_n touch_v none_o of_o this_o but_o mean_v in_o very_a deed_n that_o all_o these_o work_n partly_o deserve_a salvation_n but_o they_o think_v that_o the_o ceremony_n of_o the_o law_n can_v no_o way_n be_v profitable_a to_o justification_n now_o this_o imagination_n be_v too_o too_o gross_a folly_n for_o first_o saint_n paul_n never_o once_o speak_v of_o the_o ceremony_n of_o the_o law_n wherefore_o see_v here_o i_o beseech_v you_o how_o most_o unaduised_o they_o be_v abuse_v and_o to_o prove_v it_o to_o be_v so_o consider_v that_o place_n of_o the_o psalm_n which_o i_o erst_o allege_v how_o david_n place_v man_n blessedness_n in_o the_o only_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n 32.1_o psa_fw-la 32.1_o without_o name_v any_o work_n and_o this_o speak_v of_o work_n comprehend_v within_o it_o all_o vertnes_n in_o general_a which_o we_o can_v any_o way_n attribute_n unto_o and_o condition_n be_v not_o by_o confess_v the_o same_o with_o our_o mouth_n only_o or_o have_v a_o vain_a imagination_n swim_v in_o our_o brain_n thereof_o but_o to_o be_v so_o sorrowful_o wound_v and_o greeve_v as_o that_o we_o be_v confound_v before_o the_o majesty_n of_o god_n even_o to_o the_o very_o hate_v &_o detest_a of_o our_o own_o self_n and_o when_o we_o shall_v thus_o right_o judge_v of_o ourselves_o then_o shall_v we_o be_v sure_a that_o god_n will_v forgive_v us._n and_o when_o we_o shall_v be_v thus_o mortify_v in_o ourselves_o then_o shall_v we_o find_v life_n in_o yet_o for_o our_o work_n but_o of_o his_o mere_a and_o free_a mercy_n thus_o we_o see_v how_o we_o shall_v be_v assure_v of_o our_o salvation_n true_a it_o be_v that_o we_o shall_v always_o be_v full_a of_o scruple_n and_o doubt_n by_o reason_n that_o our_o faith_n be_v not_o perfect_a in_o we_o but_o yet_o our_o assurance_n shall_v always_o surmount_v so_o long_o as_o we_o fight_v stout_o and_o embrace_v the_o promise_n of_o god_n and_o make_v they_o a_o buckler_n and_o defence_n against_o all_o the_o temptation_n and_o distruste_n which_o the_o devil_n shall_v set_v before_o us._n when_o then_o we_o speak_v of_o this_o certainty_n of_o faith_n we_o mean_v not_o but_o that_o it_o may_v be_v shake_v and_o we_o many_o time_n be_v great_o perplex_v &_o distress_a but_o our_o meaning_n be_v that_o we_o may_v in_o the_o end_n conclude_v how_o ever_o it_o fall_v out_o that_o god_n will_v have_v mercy_n upon_o we_o and_o so_o upon_o this_o assurednes_n pray_v unto_o he_o and_o this_o be_v it_o which_o we_o be_v now_o to_o keep_v in_o mind_n we_o easy_o see_v then_o by_o this_o that_o they_o which_o have_v take_v this_o word_n justify_v to_o be_v say_v that_o god_n change_v we_o and_o govern_v we_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n to_o serve_v god_n be_v too_o too_o much_o abuse_v for_o there_o be_v many_o that_o will_v say_v that_o we_o be_v not_o justify_v by_o our_o merit_n neither_o yet_o that_o there_o be_v any_o one_o jot_n in_o we_o wherein_o to_o glory_v and_o that_o whatsoever_o goodness_n be_v in_o we_o come_v from_o the_o free_a gift_n of_o god_n because_o that_o as_o of_o ourselves_o we_o can_v do_v nothing_o else_o but_o sin_n all_o this_o they_o will_v confess_v and_o will_v in_o sum_n say_v that_o we_o be_v justify_v by_o mere_a grace_n and_o not_o by_o our_o work_n and_o that_o there_o be_v no_o goodness_n in_o we_o but_o that_o god_n give_v all_o have_v they_o confess_v all_o this_o yea_o very_o and_o yet_o they_o still_o go_v about_o to_o overthrow_n both_o themselves_o and_o other_o and_o how_o so_o forsooth_o because_o they_o think_v that_o they_o have_v attein_v unto_o perfection_n when_o as_o in_o very_a deed_n there_o be_v nothing_o else_o in_o they_o but_o imperfection_n for_o where_o shall_v we_o find_v a_o man_n that_o when_o he_o shall_v be_v thus_o cast_v down_o in_o himself_o as_o to_o be_v no_o body_n as_o it_o be_v and_o confess_v himself_o to_o be_v altogether_o accurse_v &_o whatsoever_o goodness_n be_v in_o he_o to_o come_v of_o god_n own_o mere_a liberality_n so_o as_o god_n be_v therefore_o to_o be_v exalt_v &_o magnify_v &_o himself_o to_o be_v nothing_o to_o the_o end_n he_o may_v acknowledge_v &_o humble_v himself_o unto_o god_n &_o say_v that_o all_o which_o he_o have_v he_o receive_v and_o how_o shall_v he_o do_v that_o for_o while_o he_o be_v yet_o imperfect_a and_o weak_a the_o virtue_n which_o god_n have_v bestow_v upon_o he_o shall_v be_v mingle_v with_o many_o vice_n yea_o &_o these_o virtue_n also_o shall_v be_v corrupt_v because_o i_o say_v he_o shall_v not_o be_v full_o cleanse_v of_o the_o spot_n of_o the_o flesh_n when_o a_o man_n shall_v find_v himself_o thus_o as_o a_o man_n will_v say_v half_a sea_n over_o &_o yet_o be_v far_o from_o the_o end_n and_o mark_v whether_o he_o will_v go_v how_o can_v he_o otherwise_o do_v but_o doubt_v let_v we_o therefore_o now_o conclude_v that_o it_o be_v nothing_o to_o confess_v &_o say_v that_o our_o salvation_n proceed_v from_o the_o mere_a grace_n &_o favour_n of_o god_n because_o he_o govern_v we_o with_o his_o holy_a spirit_n but_o that_o we_o must_v fly_v unto_o the_o remission_n of_o our_o sin_n and_o so_o they_o that_o play_v the_o wrangle_n so_o phister_n herein_o say_v that_o we_o be_v not_o justify_v by_o our_o work_n because_o the_o good_a work_n be_v not_o we_o but_o the_o gift_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n forget_v that_o point_n which_o we_o erst_o touch_v that_o be_v to_o say_v that_o our_o faith_n must_v be_v certain_a &_o that_o it_o can_v be_v certain_a except_o jesus_n christ_n be_v our_o advocate_n &_o his_o death_n a_o satisfaction_n for_o our_o sin_n so_o as_o we_o can_v do_v it_o without_o we_o confess_v the_o debt_n as_o by_o the_o example_n of_o the_o publicam_fw-la which_o we_o have_v allege_v may_v be_v see_v and_o we_o see_v also_o that_o this_o righteousness_n must_v not_o be_v for_o a_o day_n only_o but_o must_v continue_v all_o the_o day_n of_o our_o life_n for_o although_o we_o have_v profit_v by_o serve_v of_o god_n yet_o for_o all_o that_o it_o have_v be_v in_o imperfection_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v plain_a faith_n that_o must_v justify_v us._n and_o here_o must_v be_v put_v to_o the_o wall_n and_o overthrow_v that_o foolish_a and_o perverse_a opinion_n of_o the_o papist_n who_o think_v themselves_o to_o be_v partly_o justify_v by_o their_o work_v and_o partly_o by_o the_o forgiveness_n which_o they_o obtain_v by_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n for_o god_n must_v full_o and_o whole_o be_v merciful_a unto_o we_o as_o have_v be_v show_v and_o why_o so_o for_o part_v of_o our_o work_n merit_v nothing_o and_o beside_o there_o be_v corruption_n even_o in_o the_o very_o best_a work_n we_o do_v if_o we_o shall_v speak_v of_o judge_v of_o it_o according_a to_o the_o worthiness_n thereof_o and_o therefore_o we_o see_v that_o we_o be_v full_o and_o whole_o exclude_v wherefore_o we_o must_v grow_v to_o this_o point_n that_o the_o most_o righteous_a although_o they_o seem_v as_o righteous_a as_o that_o angel_n yet_o must_v they_o be_v accept_v of_o god_n free_o but_o here_o may_v arise_v a_o objection_n in_o this_o sort_n why_o fir_n there_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n between_o those_o who_o god_n have_v already_o call_v and_o those_o who_o be_v altogether_o estrange_v from_o he_o and_o also_o there_o be_v great_a diversity_n between_o the_o faithful_a man_n when_o as_o god_n have_v set_v he_o in_o the_o right_a way_n and_o when_o he_o leave_v he_o unto_o the_o corruption_n of_o his_o own_o nature_n for_o we_o shall_v see_v some_o man_n to_o have_v live_v a_o long_a time_n like_o a_o stray_a sheep_n &_o castaway_n and_o at_o last_o god_n enlighten_v he_o by_o his_o gospel_n and_o so_o touch_v and_o reform_v he_o as_o that_o
a_o man_n shall_v see_v he_o as_o the_o scripture_n speak_v to_o become_v a_o new_a creature_n and_o without_o doubt_n we_o can_v never_o be_v say_v to_o be_v right_a christian_n without_o we_o be_v after_o that_o manner_n renew_v and_o be_v make_v the_o workmanship_n of_o god_n create_v in_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n to_o do_v the_o work_n which_o god_n have_v prepare_v all_o this_o i_o say_v must_v be_v in_o it_o but_o herein_o may_v seem_v to_o be_v some_o absurdity_n god_n justify_v the_o thief_n that_o be_v hang_v because_o he_o acknowledge_v his_o salvation_n to_o be_v in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o when_o he_o be_v justify_v have_v he_o none_o other_o quality_n in_o he_o then_o he_o have_v before_o yes_o very_o why_o then_o say_v we_o that_o free_a righteousness_n have_v her_o course_n all_o our_o life_n long_o in_o deed_n a_o faithful_a man_n will_v at_o the_o least_o be_v well_o affect_v to_o hold_v himself_o within_o the_o compass_n of_o god_n obedience_n he_o will_v be_v displease_v with_o his_o sin_n yea_o groan_n and_o grieve_v for_o they_o and_o his_o chief_a deâ—â—re_n will_v be_v to_o frame_v his_o life_n according_a to_o the_o law_n now_o when_o a_o faithful_a man_n be_v come_v to_o this_o we_o must_v not_o say_v that_o he_o be_v justify_v as_o he_o be_v at_o the_o first_o because_o he_o be_v then_o a_o dissolute_a man_n and_o altogether_o estrange_v from_o god_n to_o this_o we_o answer_v when_o god_n at_o the_o first_o justifi_v we_o that_o be_v to_o say_v when_o he_o have_v mercy_n upon_o we_o and_o pluck_v we_o out_o from_o that_o condemnation_n wherein_o we_o be_v he_o use_v then_o a_o general_a pardon_n and_o then_o when_o he_o justifi_v we_o afterward_o he_o than_o acknowkledge_v the_o benefit_n which_o he_o have_v bestow_v upon_o we_o and_o avow_v &_o allow_v they_o for_o he_o can_v deny_v himself_o &_o when_o he_o govern_v we_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n although_o sin_n dwell_v in_o we_o yet_o reign_v it_o not_o in_o we_o as_o it_o be_v write_v although_o we_o do_v not_o the_o good_a which_o we_o will_v yet_o we_o strive_v to_o do_v it_o and_o therefore_o god_n allow_v and_o like_v of_o that_o because_o it_o come_v from_o he_o but_o here_o we_o be_v to_o note_v that_o he_o justifi_v we_o both_o in_o our_o person_n and_o also_o in_o our_o work_n by_o faith_n only_o for_o when_o he_o receive_v we_o at_o the_o first_o he_o can_v justify_v any_o work_n that_o be_v in_o us._n and_o why_o so_o because_o they_o be_v all_o wicked_a for_o as_o we_o have_v already_o say_v what_o fruit_n can_v a_o rot_a tree_n bring_v forth_o and_o therefore_o when_o god_n draw_v unto_o he_o miserable_a sinner_n that_o be_v banish_v and_o cast_v out_o of_o his_o kingdom_n and_o church_n he_o do_v not_o justify_v their_o work_n but_o behold_v their_o misery_n and_o have_v compassion_n of_o their_o perdition_n lo_o for_o that_o cause_n he_o justifi_v they_o now_o after_o that_o he_o have_v receive_v they_o he_o justifi_v they_o in_o their_o person_n that_o be_v to_o say_v he_o accept_v they_o as_o his_o child_n and_o after_o that_o he_o justifi_v their_o work_n and_o how_o do_v he_o that_o forsooth_o not_o by_o call_v they_o to_o a_o account_n nor_o judge_v they_o rigorous_o for_o there_o will_v be_v always_o as_o i_o have_v say_v some_o corruption_n among_o or_o else_o some_o slip_n and_o by_o sliding_n and_o such_o like_a thing_n which_o will_v mar_v all_o for_o if_o a_o man_n put_v the_o best_a wine_n in_o the_o world_n into_o a_o unsavery_a hogshead_n or_o into_o a_o fusty_a bottle_n the_o wine_n will_v be_v all_o mar_v even_o so_o fare_v it_o with_o all_o our_o work_n for_o so_o long_o as_o god_n guide_v and_o gonern_v we_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n they_o be_v good_a holy_a &_o commendable_a but_o mark_v what_o vessel_n we_o be_v sure_o very_o filthy_a &_o corrupt_a even_o so_o be_v our_o work_n &_o therefore_o god_n must_v purge_v &_o cleanse_v they_o and_o how_o be_v that_o very_o even_o by_o his_o grace_n in_o pardon_v the_o fault_n &_o imperfection_n which_o be_v in_o they_o wherefore_o even_o as_o there_o be_v diversity_n between_o a_o faithful_a man_n &_o who_o god_n call_v at_o the_o begin_n unto_o the_o gospel_n so_o also_o be_v there_o some_o diversity_n in_o justification_n but_o it_o alter_v not_o in_o this_o behalf_n that_o be_v that_o god_n always_o justifi_v his_o free_o that_o be_v to_o say_v that_o he_o accept_v they_o not_o for_o any_o virtue_n that_o be_v in_o themselves_o for_o there_o be_v none_o at_o all_o in_o they_o neither_o yet_o for_o those_o which_o he_o have_v bestow_v upon_o they_o for_o they_o be_v to_o be_v condemn_v by_o reason_n of_o the_o infirmity_n that_o be_v in_o they_o but_o because_o as_o saint_n paul_n say_v that_o those_o who_o he_o have_v choose_v he_o have_v justify_v here_o than_o we_o see_v in_o sum_n what_o we_o be_v to_o retain_v as_o touch_v the_o motion_n of_o this_o question_n now_o we_o be_v to_o note_v that_o over_o and_o beside_o the_o thing_n which_o the_o papist_n imagine_v that_o we_o may_v partly_o obtain_v to_o be_v righteous_a and_o so_o consequent_o be_v pardon_v at_o god_n hand_n they_o be_v too_o too_o grossecond_o deceive_v bica_o deceive_v in_o their_o satisfaction_n and_o blind_a also_o i_o say_v in_o this_o they_o be_v to_o think_v themselves_o to_o have_v certain_a virtue_n which_o god_n ought_v to_o allow_v and_o like_v of_o but_o in_o very_a deed_n they_o be_v ashamed_a to_o say_v that_o their_o work_n do_v merit_n but_o that_o they_o carry_v some_o likelihood_n with_o they_o for_o say_v they_o although_o they_o do_v not_o perfect_o merit_v yet_o be_v it_o meet_v that_o god_n who_o be_v just_a shall_v accept_v of_o that_o good_a which_o they_o do_v yea_o but_o they_o be_v so_o far_o blind_v in_o their_o righteousness_n as_o that_o they_o understand_v not_o their_o sin_n as_o we_o have_v already_o say_v again_o they_o be_v second_o deceive_v because_o they_o think_v themselves_o able_a to_o acquit_v themselves_o by_o their_o satisfaction_n i_o will_v here_o forbear_v to_o speak_v what_o their_o satisfaction_n be_v because_o they_o be_v most_o foolish_a whereby_o they_o do_v nothing_o else_o but_o provoke_v the_o heavy_a wrath_n of_o god_n against_o they_o think_v to_o pay_v he_o with_o filthy_a toy_n and_o trifle_n to_o wit_n with_o sin_n worthy_a of_o true_o we_o think_v that_o when_o we_o have_v violate_v the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n and_o have_v pay_v some_o small_a portion_n for_o it_o that_o we_o have_v do_v enough_o must_v we_o not_o think_v that_o satan_n whole_o possess_v we_o when_o as_o we_o become_v thus_o arrogant_a now_o this_o be_v the_o great_a part_n of_o popish_a doctrine_n to_o be_v pardon_v when_o as_o we_o have_v deserve_v rather_o to_o be_v punish_v and_o this_o proceed_v herehence_a because_o they_o think_v they_o shall_v be_v justify_v by_o their_o work_n and_o therefore_o they_o say_v that_o this_o be_v but_o conjectural_a for_o they_o can_v choose_v but_o see_v that_o if_o we_o examine_v ourselves_o we_o shall_v come_v short_a in_o the_o end_n neither_o can_v we_o have_v that_o which_o be_v requisite_a for_o the_o make_n up_o of_o our_o account_n before_o god_n to_o say_v that_o we_o be_v discharge_v but_o over_o and_o beside_o this_o conjecture_n they_o have_v another_o foolish_a toy_n in_o their_o head_n which_o be_v this_o why_o say_v they_o if_o it_o be_v true_a that_o god_n fovour_v we_o to_o day_n it_o may_v be_v that_o he_o will_v not_o do_v so_o to_o morrow_n god_n will_v not_o enter_v into_o judgement_n with_o us._n and_o why_o so_o because_o we_o be_v pardon_v not_o according_a to_o the_o draught_n of_o our_o indictment_n but_o by_o put_v away_o all_o our_o sin_n &_o iniquity_n and_o this_o be_v it_o which_o we_o be_v to_o remember_v concern_v this_o point_n it_o shall_v seem_v now_o that_o we_o can_v be_v whole_o righteous_a if_o our_o righteousness_n consist_v only_o of_o say_v for_o our_o faith_n as_o we_o have_v already_o say_v will_v always_o be_v weak_a so_o long_o as_o we_o live_v here_o and_o therefore_o how_o be_v it_o possible_a that_o we_o shall_v be_v full_o righteous_a before_o god_n for_o the_o effect_n can_v be_v above_o the_o cause_n for_o if_o we_o have_v but_o half_a a_o sun_n we_o shall_v not_o have_v so_o much_o light_n as_o we_o have_v and_o therefore_o we_o must_v have_v a_o whole_a sun_n that_o the_o beam_n thereof_o may_v spread_v itself_o all_o the_o world_n over_o wherefore_o when_o faith_n be_v thus_o weak_a in_o we_o it_o shall_v seem_v that_o we_o be_v but_o partly_o acceptable_a unto_o god_n and_o so_o contrariwise_o that_o he_o like_v we_o not_o howbeit_o we_o be_v here_o to_o note_v inheritance_n as_o also_o god_n house_n and_o rest_a place_n yet_o be_v it_o but_o as_o a_o pawn_n or_o to_o speak_v more_o proper_o but_o as_o a_o earnest_a penny_n for_o a_o pawn_n import_v as_o much_o at_o the_o least_o as_o the_o full_a worth_n of_o the_o thing_n which_o we_o be_v to_o be_v assure_v of_o but_o a_o earnest_a penny_n be_v as_o a_o man_n will_v say_v nothing_o and_o to_o give_v a_o penny_n as_o we_o call_v it_o unto_o god_n for_o a_o bargain_n worth_a a_o hundred_o thousand_o crown_n and_o more_o be_v nothing_o for_o of_o what_o worth_n be_v that_o piece_n which_o reason_n that_o we_o ourselves_o be_v so_o changeable_a as_o that_o our_o mind_n alter_v every_o minute_n we_o therefore_o grieve_v and_o vex_v when_o we_o see_v that_o god_n perform_v not_o that_o at_o the_o very_a first_o which_o he_o have_v promise_v us._n and_o because_o we_o see_v our_o life_n to_o be_v so_o short_a and_o the_o time_n we_o have_v to_o live_v to_o be_v but_o as_o a_o shadow_n which_o fleet_v sudden_o away_o we_o think_v that_o god_n will_v never_o come_v time_n enough_o wherefore_o we_o must_v learn_v to_o correct_v this_o fault_n by_o these_o word_n that_o we_o hear_v here_o to_o be_v speak_v to_o abram_n i_o be_o the_o lord_n which_o change_v not_o and_o beside_o we_o hear_v what_o be_v say_v in_o other_o place_n 4.8_o the_o song_n of_o moses_n psal_n
