this_o be_v the_o end_n and_o use_v of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o the_o apostle_n write_v these_o thing_n write_v i_o unto_o you_o that_o you_o sin_v not_o say_v he_o therefore_o follow_v you_o holiness_n and_o if_o reas._o 2._o if_o you_o follow_v after_o holiness_n the_o sin_n which_o perhaps_o you_o shall_v fall_v into_o shall_v be_v take_v away_o through_o the_o intercession_n of_o christ_n jesus_n our_o advocate_n and_o lord_n therefore_o endeavour_v after_o holiness_n when_o he_o name_v one_o
advocate_n he_o exclude_v all_o other_o for_o otherwise_o christ_n be_v not_o simple_o our_o advocate_n but_o one_o of_o our_o advocate_n the_o righteous_a reas._n 3_o confirm_v the_o former_a christ_n our_o advocate_n be_v righteous_a i._n e._n not_o only_o meet_v to_o intercede_v for_o sinner_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o righteousness_n of_o his_o person_n but_o also_o righteous_a in_o his_o office_n who_o require_v nothing_o of_o the_o father_n in_o our_o behalf_n but_o what_o be_v just_o due_a to_o he_o intercede_v for_o we_o from_o the_o covenant_n and_o merit_n of_o his_o death_n also_o he_o be_v righteous_a that_o he_o may_v cover_v we_o with_o his_o impute_a righteousness_n and_o last_o he_o be_v righteous_a who_o upon_o the_o covenant_n of_o redemption_n promote_v we_o in_o the_o follow_n after_o righteousness_n and_o raise_v we_o up_o again_o when_o we_o fall_v and_o at_o length_n perfect_o make_v we_o righteous_a or_o holy_a therefore_o believer_n ought_v both_o to_o endeavour_v after_o holiness_n and_o if_o at_o any_o time_n they_o fall_v into_o sin_n to_o hope_v for_o the_o virtue_n of_o christ_n intercession_n vers._n 2._o and_o he_o be_v the_o propitiation_n for_o our_o sin_n and_o not_o for_o we_o only_o but_o also_o for_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o whole_a world_n reas._n 4._o confirm_v the_o second_o reason_n the_o death_n and_o expiatory_a sacrifice_n of_o christ_n be_v offer_v not_o only_o for_o we_o viz._n elect_a out_o of_o the_o jew_n and_o convert_v to_o the_o faith_n of_o christ_n but_o also_o for_o the_o sin_n of_o all_o the_o elect_a or_o redeem_v in_o the_o world_n therefore_o you_o ought_v to_o beware_v of_o the_o evil_a of_o sin_n which_o can_v be_v expiate_v unless_o by_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n but_o if_o you_o sin_n you_o may_v confident_o expect_v the_o virtue_n both_o of_o the_o rich_a expiation_n and_o intercession_n of_o christ._n vers._n 3._o and_o hereby_o we_o know_v that_o we_o know_v he_o if_o we_o keep_v his_o commandment_n reas._n 5._o by_o endeavour_v sincere_o to_o keep_v the_o commandment_n of_o god_n as_o by_o a_o sure_a sign_n you_o may_v know_v the_o truth_n of_o your_o faith_n or_o that_o you_o true_o believe_v in_o god_n and_o love_v he_o sincere_o therefore_o follow_v you_o after_o holiness_n or_o sin_v not_o vers._n 4._o he_o that_o say_v i_o know_v he_o and_o keep_v not_o his_o commandment_n be_v a_o liar_n and_o the_o truth_n be_v not_o in_o he_o reas._n 6._o he_o that_o profess_v that_o he_o know_v god_n i._n e._n that_o he_o believe_v in_o he_o and_o love_v he_o and_o do_v not_o follow_v after_o holiness_n for_o according_a to_o the_o stile_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o endeavour_v sincere_o after_o holiness_n be_v to_o keep_v the_o commandment_n be_v a_o hypocrite_n in_o who_o there_o be_v no_o sincerity_n or_o truth_n of_o faith_n therefore_o endeavour_v after_o holiness_n vers._n 5._o but_o who_o so_o keep_v his_o word_n in_o he_o very_o be_v the_o love_n of_o god_n perfect_v hereby_o know_v we_o that_o we_o be_v in_o he_o reas._n 7._o he_o that_o endeavour_v after_o holiness_n prove_v the_o sincerity_n of_o his_o love_n towards_o god_n which_o love_n be_v perfect_v or_o manifest_v to_o be_v sincere_a from_o a_o endeavour_n of_o keep_v the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o obey_v it_o therefore_o you_o ought_v to_o endeavour_v after_o holiness_n hereby_o reas._n 8._o he_o that_o endeavour_v after_o holiness_n or_o not_o to_o sin_n or_o to_o keep_v the_o word_n of_o god_n have_v a_o evidence_n of_o his_o communion_n with_o god_n and_o know_v that_o he_o dwell_v in_o christ_n by_o faith_n therefore_o etc._n etc._n vers._n 6._o he_o that_o say_v he_o abide_v in_o he_o ought_v himself_o also_o to_o walk_v even_o as_o he_o walk_v reas._n 9_o confirm_v the_o former_a whosoever_o profess_v that_o he_o have_v communion_n with_o christ_n aught_o to_o endeavour_v after_o holiness_n or_o to_o imitate_v christ_n in_o his_o life_n and_o conversation_n therefore_o you_o ought_v to_o endeavour_v after_o holiness_n vers._n 7._o brethren_n i_o write_v no_o new_a commandment_n unto_o you_o but_o a_o old_a commandment_n which_o you_o have_v from_o the_o beginning_n the_o old_a commandment_n be_v the_o word_n which_o you_o have_v hear_v from_o the_o beginning_n reas._n 10._o i_o require_v no_o new_a duty_n from_o you_o when_o i_o urge_v you_o to_o follow_v after_o holiness_n or_o the_o observance_n of_o god_n commandment_n but_o i_o repeat_v a_o old_a commandment_n which_o you_o have_v not_o only_o hear_v from_o the_o upon_o you_o that_o believe_v and_o have_v both_o communicate_v the_o light_n and_o also_o the_o heat_n of_o life_n to_o you_o therefore_o the_o commandment_n be_v new_a to_o you_o that_o you_o ought_v to_o be_v encourage_v to_o follow_v after_o holiness_n with_o more_o alacrity_n vers._n 9_o he_o that_o say_v he_o be_v in_o the_o light_n and_o hate_v his_o brother_n be_v in_o darkness_n even_o until_o now_o the_o second_o exhortation_n draw_v the_o former_a to_o the_o love_n of_o the_o brethren_n the_o argument_n of_o the_o exhortation_n be_v ten_o beside_o those_o two_o which_o be_v that_o love_v his_o brother_n do_v neither_o stumble_v himself_o in_o the_o way_n of_o holiness_n always_o see_v whither_o he_o go_v viz._n to_o god_n by_o faith_n in_o the_o way_n of_o obedience_n nor_o be_v he_o a_o occasion_n of_o stumble_v to_o other_o whereby_o they_o may_v either_o be_v draw_v into_o sin_n or_o harden_v in_o it_o therefore_o you_o ought_v to_o endeavour_v after_o brotherly_a love_n vers._n 11._o but_o he_o that_o hate_v his_o brother_n be_v in_o darkness_n and_o walk_v in_o darkness_n and_o know_v not_o whither_o he_o go_v because_o that_o darkness_n have_v
