hold_n of_o it_o in_o their_o tentation_n therefore_o it_o must_v be_v diligent_o teach_v and_o continual_o practise_v and_o who_o so_o do_v not_o understand_v or_o apprehend_v this_o righteousness_n in_o affliction_n and_o terror_n of_o conscience_n must_v neade_n be_v overthrow_v for_o there_o be_v no_o comfort_n of_o conscience_n so_o firm_a and_o so_o sure_a as_o this_o passive_a righteousness_n be_v temptation_n but_o man_n weakness_n and_o misery_n be_v so_o great_a that_o in_o the_o terror_n of_o conscience_n &_o danger_n of_o death_n we_o behold_v nothing_o else_o but_o our_o work_n our_o worthiness_n and_o the_o law_n which_o when_o it_o show_v unto_o we_o our_o sin_n by_o and_o by_o cure_n evil_a life_n past_a come_v to_o remembrance_n then_o the_o poor_a sinner_n with_o great_a anguish_n of_o spirit_n groan_v and_o thus_o think_v with_o himself_o alas_o how_o desperate_o have_v i_o live_v will_v to_o god_n i_o may_v live_v long_o then_o will_v i_o amend_v my_o life_n thus_o man_n reason_n can_v not_o restrain_v itself_o from_o the_o sight_n and_o behold_v of_o this_o active_a or_o work_a righteousness_n that_o be_v to_o say_v her_o own_o righteousness_n nor_o lift_v up_o her_o eye_n to_o the_o behold_v of_o the_o passive_a or_o christian_n righteousness_n but_o rest_v altogether_o in_o the_o active_a righteousness_n so_o deep_o be_v this_o evil_a root_v in_o us._n on_o the_o other_o side_n satan_n abuse_v the_o infirmity_n of_o our_o nature_n do_v increase_v and_o aggravate_v these_o cogitation_n in_o we_o then_o can_v it_o not_o be_v but_o that_o the_o poor_a conscience_n must_v be_v more_o grievous_o trouble_v confound_v and_o terrify_v for_o it_o be_v unpossible_a that_o the_o mind_n of_o man_n of_o itself_o shall_v conceive_v any_o comfort_n or_o look_v up_o unto_o grace_n only_o in_o the_o feel_n and_o horror_n of_o sin_n or_o constant_o reject_v all_o dispute_v and_o reason_v about_o work_n for_o this_o be_v far_o above_o man_n strength_n and_o capacity_n yea_o and_o above_o the_o law_n of_o god_n also_o true_a it_o be_v that_o of_o all_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n affliction_n the_o law_n be_v most_o excellent_a yet_o be_v it_o not_o able_a to_o quiet_v a_o trouble_a conscience_n but_o increase_v terror_n and_o drive_v it_o to_o desperation_n for_o by_o the_o law_n sin_n be_v make_v above_o measure_n sinful_a roman_n the_o seven_o and_o thirteen_o verse_n wherefore_o the_o afflict_a and_o trouble_a conscience_n have_v no_o remedy_n against_o desperation_n and_o eternal_a death_n unless_o it_o take_v hold_v of_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n by_o grace_n free_o offer_v in_o christ_n jesus_n that_o be_v to_o say_v this_o passive_a righteousness_n of_o faith_n or_o christian_a righteousness_n which_o if_o it_o can_v apprehend_v then_o may_v it_o be_v at_o quiet_a and_o bold_o say_v i_o seek_v not_o this_o active_a or_o work_a righteousness_n although_o i_o know_v that_o i_o ought_v to_o have_v it_o righteousness_n which_o be_v the_o righteousness_n of_o grace_n mercy_n and_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n brief_o i_o rest_v only_o upon_o that_o righteousness_n which_o be_v the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n and_o of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n like_a as_o the_o earth_n engender_v not_o rain_n nor_o be_v able_a by_o she_o own_o strength_n labour_n and_o travel_v to_o procure_v the_o same_o but_o receive_v it_o of_o the_o mere_a gift_n of_o god_n from_o above_o so_o this_o heavenly_a righteousness_n be_v give_v we_o of_o god_n without_o our_o work_n or_o deserve_n look_v then_o how_o much_o the_o earth_n of_o itself_o be_v able_a to_o do_v in_o get_v and_o procure_v to_o itself_o seasonable_a shower_n of_o rain_n to_o make_v it_o fruteful_a even_o so_o much_o &_o no_o more_o be_v we_o able_a to_o do_v by_o our_o own_o strength_n &_o work_n in_o win_v this_o heavenly_a &_o eternal_a righteousness_n &_o therefore_o shall_v never_o be_v able_a to_o attain_v unto_o it_o unless_o god_n himself_o by_o mere_a imputation_n &_o by_o his_o unspeakable_a gift_n do_v bestow_v it_o upon_o we_o the_o great_a knowledge_n then_o and_o the_o great_a wisdom_n of_o christian_n be_v not_o to_o our_o conscience_n may_v be_v confirm_v against_o heresy_n yet_o to_o come_v let_v it_o not_o be_v tedious_a unto_o you_o if_o we_o repeat_v these_o thing_n again_o that_o elsewhere_o and_o at_o his_o whole_a heart_n so_o frail_a a_o thing_n be_v our_o flesh_n and_o disobedient_a to_o the_o spirit_n this_o greeting_n of_o the_o apostle_n be_v strange_a unto_o the_o world_n world_n and_o be_v never_o hear_v of_o before_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o these_o two_o word_n grace_n and_o peace_n comprehend_v in_o they_o whatsoever_o belong_v to_o christianity_n grace_n release_v sin_n and_o peace_n make_v the_o conscience_n quiet_a the_o two_o fiend_n that_o torment_v we_o be_v sin_n and_o conscience_n conscience_n but_o christ_n have_v vanquish_v these_o two_o monster_n and_o tread_v they_o under_o foot_n both_o in_o this_o world_n and_o in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v this_o the_o world_n do_v not_o know_v and_o therefore_o it_o can_v teach_v no_o certainty_n of_o the_o overcome_v of_o sin_n conscience_n and_o death_n christian_n only_a christian_n have_v this_o kind_n of_o doctrine_n and_o be_v exercise_v and_o arm_v with_o it_o to_o get_v victory_n against_o sin_n despair_n and_o everlasting_a death_n and_o it_o be_v a_o kind_n of_o doctrine_n neither_o proceed_n of_o free_a will_n nor_o invent_v by_o the_o reason_n or_o wisdom_n of_o of_o man_n peace_n but_o give_v from_o above_o moreover_o these_o two_o word_n grace_n and_o peace_n do_v contain_v in_o they_o the_o whole_a sum_n of_o christianity_n grace_n contain_v the_o remission_n of_o sin_n peace_n a_o quiet_a and_o joyful_a conscience_n but_o peace_n of_o conscience_n can_v never_o be_v have_v unless_o sin_n be_v first_o forgeven_n but_o it_o be_v not_o forgive_v for_o the_o fulfil_n of_o the_o law_n for_o no_o man_n be_v able_a to_o satisfy_v the_o law_n but_o the_o law_n do_v rather_o show_v sin_n accuse_v and_o terrify_v the_o conscience_n declare_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n and_o drive_v to_o desperation_n much_o less_o be_v sin_n take_v away_o by_o the_o work_n and_o invention_n of_o man_n as_o wicked_a worship_n strange_a religious_a vow_n and_o pilgrimage_n final_o there_o be_v no_o work_n that_o can_v take_v away_o sin_n but_o sin_n be_v rather_o increase_v by_o work_n for_o the_o justiciary_n &_o meritmonger_n the_o more_o they_o sweat_n and_o labour_n to_o bring_v themselves_o out_o of_o sin_n the_o deep_o they_o be_v plunge_v therein_o alone_o for_o there_o be_v no_o mean_n to_o take_v away_o sin_n but_o grace_n alone_o therefore_o paul_n in_o all_o the_o greeting_n of_o his_o epistle_n set_v grace_n and_o peace_n against_o sin_n and_o a_o evil_a conscience_n this_o thing_n must_v be_v diligent_o mark_v the_o word_n be_v easy_a but_o in_o tentation_n it_o be_v the_o hard_a thing_n that_o can_v be_v to_o be_v certain_o persuade_v in_o our_o heart_n that_o by_o grace_n alone_o without_o any_o other_o mean_v either_o in_o heaven_n or_o earth_n we_o have_v remission_n of_o sin_n and_o peace_n with_o god._n the_o world_n understand_v not_o this_o doctrine_n &_o therefore_o it_o neither_o will_n nor_o can_v abide_v it_o godliness_n but_o condemn_v it_o as_o heretical_a and_o wicked_a it_o brag_v of_o free_a will_n of_o the_o light_n of_o reason_n and_o the_o soundness_n of_o the_o power_n and_o quality_n of_o nature_n &_o of_o good_a work_n as_o mean_n whereby_o it_o can_v deserve_v and_o attain_v grace_n and_o peace_n that_o be_v to_o say_v forgiveness_n of_o sin_n and_o a_o quiet_a conscience_n but_o it_o be_v impossible_a that_o the_o conscience_n shall_v be_v quiet_a and_o joyful_a quiet_v unless_o it_o have_v peace_n through_o grace_n that_o be_v to_o say_v through_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n promise_v in_o christ_n many_o have_v careful_o labour_v by_o find_v out_o diverse_a and_o sundry_a religion_n order_n and_o exercise_n for_o this_o purpose_n to_o attain_v peace_n and_o quietness_n of_o conscience_n but_o by_o so_o do_v they_o have_v plunge_v themselves_o in_o more_o and_o great_a misery_n for_o all_o such_o device_n be_v but_o mean_n to_o increase_v doubtfulness_n and_o despair_n therefore_o there_o shall_v be_v no_o rest_n to_o my_o bone_n or_o thou_o unless_o we_o hear_v the_o word_n of_o grace_n and_o cleave_v unto_o it_o steadfast_o &_o faithful_o then_o shall_v our_o conscience_n undoubted_o find_v grace_n and_o peace_n christian_n the_o apostle_n do_v fit_o distinguish_v this_o grace_n and_o peace_n from_o all_o other_o kind_n of_o grace_n &_o peace_n you_o 14.27_o not_o as_o the_o world_n give_v it_o do_v i_o geve_v it_o unto_o you_o the_o peace_n of_o the_o world_n grant_v nothing_o but_o the_o peace_n of_o our_o good_n and_o body_n world_n so_o the_o grace_n or_o favour_n of_o the_o world_n give_v we_o leave_v to_o enjoy_v our_o good_n &_o cast_v we_o not_o out_o of_o our_o possession_n but_o in_o affliction_n &_o in_o the_o hour_n of_o death_n world_n the_o grace_n and_o favour_n of_o the_o world_n can_v not_o help_v we_o they_o can_v not_o deliver_v we_o from_o affliction_n despair_n and_o death_n but_o when_o the_o grace_n and_o peace_n of_o god_n be_v in_o the_o heart_n then_o be_v man_n strong_a so_o that_o he_o can_v neither_o be_v cast_v down_o with_o adversity_n nor_o puff_v up_o with_o prosperity_n but_o walk_v on_o plain_o and_o keep_v the_o high_a way_n for_o he_o take_v heart_n and_o courage_n in_o the_o victory_n of_o christ_n death_n &_o the_o confidence_n thereof_o begin_v to_o reign_v in_o his_o conscience_n over_o sin_n and_o death_n because_o through_o he_o he_o have_v assure_v forgiveness_n of_o his_o sin_n which_o after_o he_o have_v once_o obtain_v his_o conscience_n be_v at_o rest_n to_o fear_v we_o with_o the_o terror_n of_o the_o law_n yea_o and_o also_o of_o a_o little_a mote_n make_v many_o beam_n that_o be_v to_o say_v of_o that_o which_o be_v no_o sin_n he_o make_v a_o very_a hell_n for_o he_o be_v marvellous_a crafty_a both_o in_o aggravate_v sin_n and_o in_o puff_v up_o the_o conscience_n even_o in_o good_a work_n but_o also_o be_v wont_a to_o fear_v we_o with_o the_o very_a person_n of_o the_o mediator_n into_o the_o which_o he_o transform_v himself_o and_o lay_v before_o we_o some_o place_n of_o the_o scripture_n or_o some_o say_n of_o christ_n sudden_o be_v this_o evil_a world_n therefore_o all_o gift_n either_o of_o the_o body_n or_o of_o the_o mind_n which_o thou_o possess_v devil_n as_o wisdom_n righteousness_n holiness_n eloquence_n power_n these_o two_o proposition_n be_v clean_a contrary_n to_o reason_n and_o therefore_o no_o crafty_a sophister_n or_o lawworker_n can_v understand_v they_o but_o learn_v thou_o the_o true_a understanding_n thereof_o he_o that_o live_v to_o the_o law_n that_o be_v seek_v to_o be_v justify_v by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n be_v and_o remain_v a_o sinner_n therefore_o he_o be_v dead_a the_o law_n to_o the_o end_n they_o may_v be_v justify_v thereby_o now_o to_o make_v the_o death_n of_o christ_n unprofitable_a be_v also_o to_o make_v his_o resurrection_n his_o victory_n his_o glory_n his_o kingdom_n heaven_n earth_n god_n himself_o the_o majesty_n of_o god_n and_o brief_o all_o thing_n else_o whatsoever_o but_o unprofitable_a and_o of_o none_o effect_n this_o thunder_a and_o lighten_v from_o heaven_n against_o the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n and_o man_n own_o

admit_v for_o they_o know_v not_o the_o true_a manner_n of_o justification_n and_o this_o be_v the_o cause_n why_o they_o will_v have_v man_n to_o work_v well_o so_o long_o until_o they_o shall_v feel_v no_o sin_n at_o all_o in_o they_o and_o thereby_o they_o give_v occasion_n to_o many_o which_o strive_v with_o all_o their_o endeavour_n to_o be_v perfect_o righteous_a &_o yet_o not_o able_a to_o attain_v thereunto_o to_o become_v stark_o mad_a and_o a_o infinite_a number_n also_o of_o those_o which_o be_v the_o author_n of_o this_o wicked_a opinion_n at_o the_o point_n of_o death_n be_v drive_v into_o desperation_n which_o thing_n have_v happen_v unto_o i_o also_o if_o christ_n have_v not_o merciful_o look_v upon_o i_o and_o help_v i_o out_o of_o this_o error_n comfort_v on_o the_o otherside_n we_o teach_v and_o comfort_v the_o afflict_a sinner_n after_o this_o manner_n brother_n it_o be_v not_o possible_a for_o thou_o to_o become_v so_o righteous_a in_o this_o life_n that_o thou_o shall_v feel_v no_o sin_n at_o all_o that_o thy_o body_n shall_v be_v clear_a like_o the_o sun_n without_o spot_n or_o blemish_n but_o thou_o have_v as_o yet_o wrinkle_n and_o spot_n &_o yet_o the_o morning_n sacrifice_n be_v to_o glorify_v god_n thus_o a_o christian_a daily_o and_o continual_o be_v occupy_v in_o this_o double_a sacrifice_n and_o in_o the_o exercise_n thereof_o and_o no_o man_n be_v able_a to_o set_v forth_o sufficient_o the_o excellency_n and_o dignity_n of_o this_o christian_a sacrifice_n righteousness_n this_o be_v therefore_o a_o strange_a and_o a_o wonderful_a definition_n of_o christian_a righteousness_n that_o it_o be_v the_o imputation_n of_o god_n for_o righteousness_n or_o unto_o righteousness_n because_o of_o our_o faith_n in_o christ_n or_o for_o good_a will_n or_o a_o good_a intent_n be_v true_a righteousness_n this_o unspeakable_a gift_n therefore_o excel_v all_o reason_n that_o god_n do_v account_n and_o acknowledge_v he_o for_o righteous_a without_o work_n which_o embrace_v his_o son_n by_o faith_n alone_o who_o be_v send_v into_o the_o world_n be_v bear_v suffer_v and_o be_v crucify_v for_o us._n this_o matter_n as_o touch_v the_o be_v give_v for_o we_o and_o who_o we_o apprehend_v by_o faith_n have_v do_v no_o small_a thing_n for_o we_o neither_o have_v he_o dally_v with_o we_o but_o as_o paul_n say_v before_o 2d_o he_o have_v love_v we_o and_o give_v himself_o in_o very_a deed_n for_o we_o 3.13_o he_o be_v make_v accurse_v for_o we_o etc_n etc_n and_o this_o be_v no_o vain_a speculation_n that_o christ_n be_v deliver_v for_o my_o sin_n and_o be_v make_v accurse_v for_o i_o that_o i_o may_v be_v deliver_v from_o everlasting_a death_n us._n therefore_o to_o apprehend_v that_o son_n by_o faith_n and_o with_o the_o heart_n to_o believe_v in_o he_o give_v unto_o we_o and_o for_o we_o of_o god_n cause_v that_o god_n do_v account_v that_o faith_n although_o it_o be_v unperfect_a for_o perfect_a righteousness_n and_o we_o be_v altogether_o in_o a_o other_o world_n far_o from_o reason_n where_o we_o dispute_v not_o what_o we_o ought_v to_o do_v or_o with_o what_o work_v we_o may_v deserve_v grace_n and_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n but_o we_o be_v here_o in_o a_o matter_n of_o high_a and_o heavenly_a divinity_n where_o we_o do_v hear_v this_o gospel_n or_o glad_a tiding_n that_o christ_n die_v for_o we_o and_o that_o we_o beleve_v this_o be_v count_v righteous_a though_o sin_n notwithstanding_o do_v remain_v in_o we_o and_o that_o horrible_a sin_n so_o our_o saviour_n christ_n also_o define_v the_o righteousness_n of_o faith_n the_o father_n say_v he_o love_v you_o wherefore_o do_v he_o love_v you_o not_o because_o you_o be_v pharisee_o gospel_n unreprovable_a in_o the_o righteousness_n of_o you_o have_v apprehend_v and_o embrace_v this_o object_n he_o therefore_o the_o father_n love_v you_o and_o therefore_o you_o please_v he_o and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o in_o a_o other_o place_n he_o call_v they_o evil_a and_o command_v they_o to_o ask_v forgiveness_n of_o their_o sin_n these_o two_o thing_n be_v quite_o contrary_a to_o wit_n that_o a_o christian_n be_v righteous_a and_o belove_a mean_v we_o be_v make_v righteous_a in_o this_o matter_n we_o must_v set_v nothing_o else_o before_o our_o eye_n but_o jesus_n christ_n die_v for_o our_o sin_n and_o rise_v again_o for_o our_o far_o differ_v from_o the_o work_v abraham_n so_o be_v christ_n blessing_n &_o redeem_v a_o thing_n far_o differ_v from_o christ_n work_v or_o give_v example_n and_o paul_n here_o speak_v of_o down_o by_o the_o law_n desperation_n and_o death_n must_v needs_o follow_v therefore_o it_o be_v a_o perilous_a thing_n for_o a_o man_n to_o be_v alone_o 4.10_o woe_n be_v to_o he_o that_o be_v read_v of_o christ_n that_o sometime_o he_o go_v a_o side_n alone_o into_o the_o mount_n and_o by_o night_n continue_v in_o prayer_n there_o be_v no_o danger_n therein_o 17.1_o but_o when_o they_o constrain_v man_n continual_o to_o live_v a_o solitary_a life_n it_o be_v a_o device_n of_o the_o devil_n himself_o for_o when_o a_o man_n be_v tempt_v and_o be_v alone_o he_o be_v not_o able_a to_o no_o man_n can_v obtain_v life_n except_o first_o he_o be_v righteous_a then_o in_o deed_n righteousness_n shall_v come_v by_o the_o law_n moreover_o if_o there_o be_v any_o state_n of_o life_n any_o work_n any_o religion_n whereby_o a_o man_n may_v obtain_v remission_n of_o sin_n righteousness_n and_o life_n then_o shall_v these_o thing_n in_o deed_n justify_v and_o geve_v life_n but_o this_o all_o under_o sin_n therefore_o neither_o the_o vow_n nor_o religion_n of_o the_o carthusian_n be_v it_o never_o so_o angelical_a be_v righteousness_n before_o god_n for_o the_o scripture_n have_v now_o he_o that_o say_v all_o except_v nothing_o therefore_o we_o conclude_v with_o paul_n that_o the_o policy_n and_o law_n of_o all_o nation_n be_v they_o never_o so_o good_a and_o necessary_a with_o all_o ceremony_n and_o religion_n without_o faith_n in_o christ_n be_v and_o abide_v under_o sin_n death_n and_o eternal_a damnation_n except_o faith_n in_o jesus_n christ_n go_v withal_o or_o rather_o before_o all_o as_o follow_v in_o the_o text_n of_o this_o matter_n we_o have_v speak_v large_o before_o wherefore_o this_o be_v a_o true_a proposition_n justify_v only_a faith_n justify_v without_o work_n which_o notwithstanding_o our_o adversary_n can_v by_o no_o mean_n abide_v for_o paul_n here_o strong_o conclude_v that_o the_o law_n give_v not_o life_n because_o it_o be_v not_o give_v to_o that_o end_n justify_v if_o then_o the_o law_n do_v not_o justify_v and_o geve_v life_n much_o less_o do_v work_n justify_v for_o when_o paul_n say_v that_o the_o law_n give_v not_o life_n his_o meaning_n be_v that_o work_v also_o do_v not_o geve_v life_n for_o it_o be_v more_o to_o say_v that_o the_o law_n quicken_v &_o give_v life_n then_o to_o say_v that_o work_n do_v quicken_v &_o geve_v life_n if_o then_o the_o law_n itself_o be_v fulfil_v although_o it_o be_v impossible_a that_o it_o shall_v be_v accomplish_v do_v not_o justify_v much_o less_o do_v work_n justify_v i_o conclude_v therefore_o that_o faith_n only_o justify_v and_o bring_v life_n without_o work_n paul_n can_v not_o suffer_v this_o addition_n faith_n join_v with_o work_n justify_v but_o he_o proceed_v simple_o by_o the_o negative_a rom._n 3._o and_o before_o in_o the_o second_o chapter_n therefore_o by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o la_o say_v he_o shall_v not_o flesh_n be_v justify_v â—â—_o and_o who_o to_o those_o that_o believe_v in_o who_o in_o jesus_n christ_n who_o be_v the_o bless_a seed_n which_o have_v redeem_v all_o believer_n from_o the_o curse_n that_o they_o may_v receive_v the_o blessing_n these_o word_n be_v not_o obscure_a but_o plain_o enough_o notwithstanding_o we_o must_v mark_v they_o diligent_o and_o way_n well_o the_o force_n and_o weight_n thereof_o for_o if_o all_o jesus_n christ_n may_v be_v give_v to_o all_o believer_n now_o how_o we_o shall_v answer_v to_o those_o sentence_n which_o speak_v of_o work_n and_o the_o reward_n thereof_o i_o have_v sufficient_o who_o can_v sufficient_o commend_v and_o set_v forth_o the_o profit_n &_o fruit_n of_o one_o only_a work_n which_o a_o christian_a do_v through_o faith_n and_o in_o faith_n in_o deed_n it_o be_v more_o precious_a than_o heaven_n or_o earth_n the_o whole_a world_n therefore_o be_v not_o able_a to_o geve_v a_o worthy_a recompense_n to_o such_o a_o good_a work_n yea_o the_o world_n have_v not_o the_o grace_n to_o magnify_v the_o holy_a work_n of_o the_o faithful_a as_o they_o be_v worthy_a
a_o other_o lawgever_o which_o require_v good_a work_n christ_n but_o unto_o christ_n our_o justifier_n and_o saviour_n that_o by_o faith_n in_o he_o we_o may_v be_v justify_v and_o not_o by_o work_n but_o when_o a_o man_n feel_v the_o force_n and_o strength_n of_o the_o law_n he_o do_v not_o understand_v nor_o believe_v this_o therefore_o he_o say_v i_o have_v live_v wicked_o for_o i_o have_v religious_a hypocrite_n so_o many_o ceremony_n and_o so_o many_o work_n devise_v to_o deserve_v grace_n and_o remission_n of_o sin_n and_o they_o which_o devise_v these_o thing_n think_v that_o the_o law_n be_v a_o schoolmaster_n to_o lead_v they_o not_o unto_o christ_n but_o to_o a_o new_a law_n or_o unto_o christ_n as_o a_o lawgiver_n and_o not_o as_o one_o that_o have_v abolish_v the_o law_n la_o but_o the_o true_a use_n of_o the_o law_n be_v to_o teach_v i_o that_o i_o be_o bring_v to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o my_o sin_n &_o humble_v that_o so_o i_o may_v come_v unto_o christ_n and_o thou_o go_v about_o to_o reason_n as_o concern_v the_o law_n thou_o must_v take_v the_o matter_n of_o the_o law_n or_o that_o whereupon_o the_o law_n work_v namely_o the_o sinner_n and_o the_o wicked_a person_n who_o the_o law_n justify_v not_o but_o set_v sin_n before_o his_o eye_n cast_v he_o down_o and_o bring_v he_o to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o himself_o it_o show_v unto_o he_o hell_n of_o tentation_n experience_n and_o practice_v to_o apply_v they_o to_o himself_o and_o to_o feel_v the_o excellency_n of_o this_o liberty_n and_o the_o fruit_n thereof_o it_o be_v a_o hard_a matter_n than_o can_v be_v express_v therefore_o our_o conscience_n must_v be_v instruct_v and_o prepare_v before_o hand_n that_o when_o we_o feel_v the_o accusation_n of_o the_o law_n the_o terror_n of_o sin_n the_o horror_n of_o death_n and_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n we_o may_v remove_v these_o heavy_a sight_n and_o fearful_a fantasy_n out_o of_o our_o mind_n tentation_n and_o set_v in_o the_o consent_v to_o the_o flesh_n which_o always_o entice_v we_o to_o some_o evil_n but_o to_o resist_v it_o by_o the_o spirit_n faithful_a we_o must_v not_o be_v overcome_v with_o impatiency_n for_o the_o unthankfulness_n and_o contempt_n of_o the_o people_n which_o abuse_v the_o christian_a liberty_n but_o through_o the_o spirit_n we_o must_v overcome_v this_o &_o all_o other_o temptation_n look_v then_o how_o much_o we_o strive_v against_o the_o flesh_n by_o the_o spirit_n so_o much_o be_v we_o outward_o righteous_a albeit_o this_o righteousness_n do_v not_o commend_v we_o before_o god._n let_v no_o man_n therefore_o despair_v if_o he_o feel_v the_o flesh_n oftentimes_o to_o stir_v up_o new_a battle_n against_o the_o spirit_n despair_v or_o if_o he_o can_v not_o by_o and_o by_o subdue_v the_o flesh_n and_o make_v it_o obedient_a unto_o the_o spirit_n i_o also_o do_v wish_v myself_o to_o have_v a_o more_o valiant_a and_o constant_a heart_n which_o may_v be_v able_a not_o may_v by_o and_o by_o shake_v of_o the_o vexation_n and_o anguish_n of_o spirit_n and_o brief_o may_v not_o fear_v the_o sharpness_n of_o death_n but_o receive_v and_o embrace_v it_o as_o a_o most_o friendly_a guest_n but_o i_o find_v a_o other_o law_n in_o my_o member_n rebel_a against_o the_o law_n of_o my_o mind_n etc_n etc_n some_o other_o do_v wrestle_v with_o inferior_a temptation_n as_o poverty_n reproach_n impatiency_n and_o such_o like_a let_v no_o man_n marvel_v therefore_o or_o be_v dismay_v when_o he_o feel_v in_o his_o body_n this_o battle_n of_o the_o flesh_n against_o the_o spirit_n but_o let_v he_o pluck_v up_o his_o heart_n and_o comfort_n himself_o with_o these_o word_n of_o paul_n the_o flesh_n lust_v against_o the_o spirit_n also_o these_o be_v contrary_a one_o to_o a_o other_o so_o that_o you_o do_v not_o those_o thing_n that_o you_o will_v godly_a for_o by_o these_o sentence_n he_o comfort_v they_o that_o be_v tempt_v as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v it_o be_v impossible_a for_o you_o to_o follow_v the_o guide_v of_o the_o spirit_n in_o all_o thing_n without_o any_o feeling_n or_o hindrance_n of_o the_o flesh_n nay_o the_o flesh_n will_v resist_v and_o so_o resist_v and_o hinder_v you_o that_o you_o can_v not_o do_v those_o thing_n which_o glad_o you_o will_v here_o it_o shall_v be_v enough_o if_o you_o resist_v the_o flesh_n and_o fulfil_v not_o the_o lust_n thereof_o that_o be_v to_o say_v if_o you_o follow_v the_o spirit_n and_o not_o the_o flesh_n which_o easy_o be_v overthrow_v by_o impatiency_n covet_v to_o revenge_v bite_v grudge_v hate_v god_n be_v angry_a with_o he_o despair_v etc_n etc_n therefore_o when_o a_o man_n feel_v this_o battle_n of_o the_o flesh_n let_v he_o not_o be_v discourage_v therewith_o but_o let_v he_o resist_v in_o spirit_n and_o say_v i_o be_o a_o sinner_n and_o i_o feel_v sin_n in_o i_o for_o i_o have_v not_o yet_o put_v of_o the_o flesh_n in_o which_o sin_n dwell_v so_o long_o as_o it_o live_v but_o i_o for_o it_o wonderful_o comfort_v they_o when_o they_o be_v tempt_v when_o i_o be_v a_o monk_n i_o think_v by_o and_o by_o that_o i_o be_v utter_o cast_v away_o if_o at_o any_o time_n i_o feel_v the_o lust_n of_o the_o flesh_n that_o be_v to_o say_v if_o i_o feel_v any_o evil_a motion_n fleshly_a lust_n wrath_n hatred_n or_o envy_n against_o any_o brother_n i_o assay_v many_o way_n to_o help_v and_o to_o quiet_v my_o conscience_n but_o it_o will_v not_o be_v for_o the_o concupiscence_n and_o lust_n of_o my_o flesh_n do_v always_o return_v so_o that_o i_o can_v not_o rest_v but_o be_v continual_o vex_v with_o these_o thought_n this_o or_o that_o sin_n thou_o have_v commit_v thou_o be_v infect_v with_o envy_n with_o impatiency_n &_o such_o other_o sin_n therefore_o thou_o be_v
