but_o the_o end_n be_v that_o which_o difference_v person_n condition_n as_o the_o holy-ghost_n speak_v by_o the_o psalmist_n mark_v the_o perfect_a man_n behold_v the_o upright_a the_o end_n of_o much_o of_o the_o will_n in_o it_o and_o so_o much_o the_o more_o wicked_a and_o therefore_o now_o the_o spirit_n must_v needs_o be_v grieve_v what_o can_v such_o a_o poor_a creature_n expect_v but_o to_o be_v bring_v under_o bondage_n as_o you_o see_v it_o in_o david_n his_o plot_v and_o contrive_v the_o death_n of_o vriah_n these_o sin_n in_o cold_a blood_n when_o a_o man_n be_v not_o under_o the_o sudden_a violent_a heat_n of_o a_o temptation_n and_o yet_o will_v sin_v o_o this_o grieve_v he_o much_o if_o a_o pot_n be_v on_o the_o fire_n and_o the_o scum_n rise_v we_o throw_v it_o out_o and_o malice_n of_o grudge_n of_o heart_n one_o against_o another_o as_o the_o apostle_n say_v grudge_v not_o one_o against_o another_o prejudices_fw-la heartburning_n grudge_n upon_o injury_n real_a against_o our_o own_o peace_n and_o comfort_n and_o answer_v all_o our_o objection_n and_o still_o our_o complaint_n and_o seal_v up_o love_n upon_o our_o heart_n remove_v our_o tremble_a and_o fear_n dispel_v our_o darkness_n cleanse_v our_o loathsome_a heart_n in_o a_o great_a measure_n of_o those_o lust_n that_o do_v so_o much_o prevail_v against_o we_o and_o we_o shall_v forget_v this_o now_o and_o not_o return_v to_o he_o the_o praise_n but_o either_o to_o grow_v into_o carnal_a security_n and_o when_o we_o have_v rest_n from_o that_o which_o gall_v we_o with_o the_o nine_o leper_n go_v our_o way_n never_o mind_n whence_o we_o receive_v it_o or_o else_o so_o much_o poor_a upon_o the_o remainder_n of_o our_o sin_n as_o not_o to_o exalt_v that_o grace_n whereby_o we_o be_v in_o so_o great_a a_o part_n deliver_v o_o this_o grieve_v he_o and_o therefore_o he_o may_v just_o let_v we_o step_v back_o again_o or_o let_v loose_a upon_o we_o again_o those_o lust_n that_o we_o be_v deliver_v from_o their_o strength_n and_o never_o prize_v the_o mercy_n that_o we_o learn_v to_o admire_v that_o grace_n much_o more_o may_v be_v add_v but_o this_o shall_v suffice_v the_o next_o use_n of_o the_o point_n shall_v be_v for_o satisfaction_n to_o some_o doubt_n since_o we_o be_v deliver_v and_o set_v free_a from_o the_o law_n as_o you_o have_v hear_v from_o that_o it_o may_v be_v think_v first_o that_o the_o law_n be_v a_o evil_a that_o it_o be_v such_o a_o privilege_n of_o the_o saint_n to_o be_v deliver_v from_o it_o second_o it_o may_v be_v doubt_v how_o far_o we_o be_v set_v free_a from_o it_o and_o therefore_o i_o will_v speak_v a_o little_a to_o each_o of_o they_o for_o the_o first_o first_o the_o apostle_n meet_v with_o it_o or_o rather_o prevent_v it_o for_o see_v that_o carnal_a reason_n will_v be_v so_o ingenuous_a as_o to_o find_v out_o that_o cavil_n among_o other_o against_o the_o doctrine_n of_o faith_n and_o of_o freedom_n from_o the_o bondage_n under_o the_o law_n as_o the_o strength_n of_o sin_n special_o what_o shall_v i_o say_v then_o say_v the_o apostle_n be_v the_o law_n sin_n that_o 12._o we_o be_v say_v to_o be_v deliver_v from_o it_o and_o that_o sin_n have_v its_o strength_n from_o it_o and_o so_o deliverance_n from_o sin_n be_v a_o deliverance_n from_o the_o law_n as_o the_o strength_n of_o it_o or_o be_v the_o law_n death_n since_o sin_n by_o this_o mean_n do_v work_v death_n no_o say_v the_o apostle_n the_o law_n be_v holy_a just_a and_o good_a the_o law_n give_v no_o occasion_n to_o sin_n but_o sin_n take_v occasion_n sin_n will_v not_o endure_v to_o be_v contradict_v it_o suck_v poison_v out_o of_o that_o holy_a and_o good_a law_n of_o god_n meet_v with_o opposition_n it_o swell_v and_o rage_v so_o that_o indeed_o it_o be_v sin_n that_o be_v the_o evil_a the_o law_n be_v holy_a and_o good_a o_o but_o the_o law_n it_o work_v wrath_n and_o work_v death_n and_o can_v this_o then_o be_v good_a and_o how_o can_v it_o be_v such_o a_o mercy_n to_o be_v deliver_v from_o it_o be_v it_o a_o favour_n to_o be_v put_v into_o golden_a fetter_n suppose_v the_o law_n to_o be_v good_a and_o holy_a yet_o since_o it_o be_v as_o we_o may_v say_v gin_n and_o fetter_n and_o bolt_n though_o of_o gold_n to_o hold_v the_o poor_a soul_n in_o to_o keep_v he_o in_o and_o up_o as_o in_o a_o prison_n be_v this_o so_o good_a then_o to_o this_o i_o answer_v it_o be_v true_a by_o the_o law_n be_v the_o knowledge_n of_o sin_n i_o have_v not_o know_v lust_n except_o the_o law_n have_v say_v thou_o shall_v not_o covet_v whether_o in_o the_o last_o command_n or_o in_o each_o command_n now_o i_o will_v not_o dispute_v but_o the_o first_o motion_n thought_n rise_n and_o bubbling_n of_o corruption_n i_o have_v not_o know_v they_o to_o be_v sin_n but_o that_o the_o law_n have_v say_v thou_o shall_v not_o covet_v why_o but_o be_v that_o then_o that_o be_v good_a make_v death_n to_o i_o say_v the_o apostle_n you_o must_v know_v the_o apostle_n speak_v here_o of_o a_o death_n which_o be_v the_o receive_n as_o i_o may_v say_v the_o sentence_n of_o condemnation_n in_o his_o own_o spirit_n by_o conviction_n for_o this_o be_v all_o his_o knowledge_n of_o sin_n that_o sin_n by_o the_o commandment_n may_v appear_v to_o be_v exceed_o sinful_a this_o be_v the_o die_v there_o mention_v sin_n revive_v and_o i_o die_v which_o be_v in_o order_n to_o liberty_n to_o make_v the_o poor_a creature_n see_v his_o necessity_n of_o jesus_n christ_n that_o so_o he_o may_v make_v out_o after_o he_o to_o make_v a_o pardon_n welcome_a therefore_o he_o cast_v poor_a sinner_n
into_o fetch_a ter_n under_o this_o law_n so_o that_o if_o you_o look_v upon_o it_o in_o this_o subserviency_n to_o the_o gospel_n though_o the_o creature_n may_v be_v put_v to_o much_o grief_n by_o it_o yet_o it_o be_v good_a when_o pardon_n be_v proclaim_v that_o a_o prince_n shall_v cast_v those_o rebel_n into_o prison_n to_o make_v they_o willing_a of_o a_o pardon_n the_o gospel_n be_v a_o savour_n of_o death_n to_o death_n you_o know_v and_o yet_o it_o be_v a_o sweet_a savour_n in_o they_o that_o perish_v and_o they_o that_o be_v save_v the_o gospel_n be_v never_o the_o worse_o for_o that_o and_o if_o the_o law_n prove_v fetter_n to_o a_o poor_a sinner_n to_o keep_v he_o under_o bondage_n for_o ever_o and_o bind_v he_o over_o to_o everlasting_a judgement_n this_o be_v through_o his_o own_o wickedness_n that_o he_o will_v not_o accept_v of_o deliverance_n in_o the_o gospel_n where_o it_o be_v preach_v the_o law_n be_v never_o the_o less_o good_a and_o holy_a but_o the_o second_o be_v the_o main_a thing_n how_o far_o we_o be_v say_v to_o be_v free_v from_o the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o how_o we_o be_v not_o free_v from_o it_o first_o we_o be_v deliver_v from_o it_o as_o a_o covenant_n of_o righteousness_n do_v this_o and_o live_v that_o be_v to_o say_v be_v thou_o exact_o conformable_a to_o this_o law_n for_o ever_o 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d want_v of_o suitableness_n to_o this_o law_n be_v a_o sin_n and_o every_o sin_n the_o wage_n of_o it_o be_v death_n if_o thou_o break_v it_o but_o in_o one_o thou_o be_v guilty_a of_o all_o alas_o brethren_n the_o law_n be_v weak_a through_o our_o flesh_n and_o can_v not_o justify_v it_o can_v discover_v sin_n as_o a_o glass_n but_o not_o purge_v it_o it_o can_v work_v wrath_n work_v it_o out_o but_o it_o can_v not_o pacify_v therefore_o the_o lord_n jesus_n come_v and_o take_v upon_o he_o that_o name_n the_o lord_n our_o righteousness_n and_o he_o be_v now_o say_v 25._o the_o apostle_n the_o end_n of_o the_o law_n for_o righteousness_n it_o be_v a_o schoolmaster_n to_o whip_v we_o to_o fright_v we_o out_o of_o ourselves_o to_o jesus_n christ_n therefore_o every_o soul_n in_o christ_n now_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o law_n as_o a_o covenant_n of_o life_n that_o be_v clear_a but_o this_o be_v mention_v before_o second_o now_o from_o the_o rigorous_a exact_v of_o obedience_n for_o according_a to_o the_o law_n nothing_o be_v obedience_n except_o perfect_a if_o a_o man_n miscarry_v in_o one_o thing_n he_o be_v guilty_a of_o all_o there_o must_v be_v a_o do_v of_o every_o thing_n write_v yea_o in_o the_o full_a most_o spiritual_a sense_n of_o it_o yea_o a_o continuance_n in_o every_o thing_n to_o the_o end_n or_o else_o it_o be_v not_o obedience_n but_o now_o the_o lord_n accept_v of_o the_o desire_n of_o the_o upright_a heart_n he_o hear_v the_o prayer_n of_o such_o as_o desire_v to_o fear_v his_o name_n the_o will_v now_o go_v for_o the_o deed_n where_o the_o poor_a soul_n strive_v to_o do_v and_o be_v not_o able_a dear_a friend_n how_o sad_a a_o condition_n be_v we_o in_o many_o time_n if_o the_o lord_n do_v so_o rigorous_o exact_v our_o obedience_n how_o often_o do_v we_o come_v to_o pray_v and_o can_v say_v nothing_o in_o his_o presence_n can_v scarce_o sigh_v or_o groan_v and_o in_o hear_v and_o speak_v his_o word_n though_o we_o do_v stir_v up_o ourselves_o to_o watch_v o_o how_o often_o do_v vain_a thought_n run_v away_o with_o our_o heart_n now_o if_o we_o be_v under_o this_o exact_v of_o the_o law_n what_o will_v become_v of_o we_o what_o have_v become_v of_o paul_n when_o he_o do_v the_o thing_n he_o hate_v the_o thing_n he_o will_v not_o etc._n etc._n if_o he_o have_v be_v under_o the_o rigour_n of_o the_o law_n if_o there_o be_v first_o a_o willing_a mind_n that_o imprimis_fw-la brethren_n do_v legitimate_a all_o the_o follow_a item_n though_o never_o so_o weak_a now_o the_o law_n be_v in_o the_o hand_n of_o christ_n as_o a_o father_n who_o pity_v and_o spare_v we_o alas_o what_o have_v become_v of_o the_o best_a of_o we_o else_o long_o 17._o since_o thus_o we_o be_v deliver_v three_o from_o the_o curse_n of_o it_o gal._n 3._o 18._o our_o saviour_n be_v make_v a_o curse_n for_o we_o so_o that_o the_o curse_n of_o it_o do_v not_o lie_v upon_o we_o to_o sink_v we_o that_o be_v to_o say_v the_o weight_n of_o the_o wrath_n or_o displeasure_n of_o god_n nor_o yet_o as_o a_o compulsion_n to_o obedience_n to_o this_o law_n as_o slave_n and_o very_o wretched_a sinner_n may_v do_v much_o for_o the_o fear_n and_o dread_n of_o this_o curse_n of_o god_n but_o this_o the_o lord_n deliver_v his_o people_n from_o he_o make_v they_o a_o willing_a people_n he_o now_o show_v they_o great_a reason_n against_o sin_n then_o ever_o they_o see_v now_o open_v to_o they_o the_o grave_n they_o see_v the_o rottenness_n of_o it_o which_o they_o see_v not_o before_o now_o he_o open_v his_o treasure_n of_o rich_a grace_n in_o christ_n and_o so_o by_o mediation_n of_o the_o understanding_n work_v upon_o the_o will_n sweet_o incline_v it_o to_o god_n though_o there_o be_v a_o moral_a suasion_n by_o apposition_n of_o object_n as_o a_o lamb_n be_v lead_v by_o a_o green_a bush_n up_o and_o down_o yet_o this_o be_v not_o all_o there_o go_v more_o to_o the_o take_v away_o the_o stone_n in_o the_o heart_n and_o give_v a_o heart_n of_o flesh_n which_o do_v most_o what_o lie_v in_o the_o make_v the_o will_v flexible_a and_o pliable_a not_o so_o much_o in_o sorrow_n and_o tear_n and_o melt_n which_o do_v many_o time_n accompany_v it_o and_o sometime_o not_o at_o all_o or_o very_o little_a pharaoh_n heart_n be_v harden_v for_o he_o obey_v not_o he_o be_v stiff_a and_o stubborn_a and_o therefore_o say_v to_o be_v a_o stone_n now_o i_o say_v a_o moral_a suasion_n will_v not_o reach_v to_o this_o a_o man_n may_v use_v much_o oratory_n to_o a_o stone_n and_o yet_o it_o remain_v a_o stone_n still_o a_o preacher_n may_v hold_v forth_o sin_n to_o be_v sin_n and_o exceed_v sinful_a and_o hold_v forth_o christ_n crucify_v by_o they_o and_o for_o they_o before_o their_o eye_n and_o yet_o alas_o all_o will_v not_o do_v they_o remain_v stone_n still_o no_o no_o a_o incline_v of_o the_o heart_n he_o turn_v the_o heart_n of_o man_n whithersoever_o he_o will_v as_o he_o do_v the_o heart_n of_o esau_n to_o jacob_n upon_o his_o prayer_n there_o be_v more_o than_o a_o suasion_n 32._o and_o as_o he_o do_v the_o thief_n upon_o the_o cross_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o his_o torment_n and_o agony_n of_o death_n then_o to_o think_v upon_o a_o christ_n then_o to_o have_v his_o heart_n towards_o he_o that_o never_o regard_v he_o in_o his_o life-time_n and_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o a_o people_n revile_v he_o as_o you_o know_v and_o be_v overcome_v we_o be_v make_v free_a to_o the_o service_n of_o jesus_n christ_n now_o we_o can_v delight_v in_o the_o 32._o law_n of_o god_n after_o the_o inward_a man_n it_o be_v a_o weariness_n to_o a_o sinner_n to_o hear_v the_o word_n special_o if_o it_o come_v near_o to_o he_o he_o can_v not_o endure_v to_o be_v grate_v upon_o and_o a_o weariness_n to_o pray_v now_o he_o delight_v in_o in_o the_o gospel_n inculcate_v this_o upon_o the_o disciple_n fear_v not_o he_o 28._o that_o can_v kill_v the_o body_n but_o fear_v he_o that_o kill_v soul_n and_o body_n and_o so_o if_o you_o live_v spirit_n to_o disable_v we_o from_o duty_n to_o cloud_n and_o drown_v all_o our_o delight_n in_o his_o way_n to_o blot_v out_o our_o apprehension_n of_o his_o loveliness_n and_o compassion_n and_o bowel_n so_o as_o to_o beget_v hard_a thought_n in_o our_o heart_n of_o god_n which_o will_v produce_v hatred_n of_o he_o such_o a_o fear_n ought_v not_o to_o be_v in_o we_o and_o though_o there_o may_v be_v a_o spice_n of_o it_o sometime_o even_o in_o the_o best_a when_o they_o be_v not_o themselves_o yet_o this_o be_v not_o the_o prevail_a principle_n in_o the_o soul_n but_o a_o holy_a fear_n of_o offend_v he_o which_o arise_v from_o a_o mixture_n of_o love_n towards_o he_o and_o holy_a reverence_n and_o awe_n of_o he_o and_o of_o his_o majesty_n and_o greatness_n and_o true_o brethren_n
