thereof and they shall minister unto it and shall encamp round about the tabernacle 51 And when the tabernacle setteth forward the Levites shall take it down and when the tabernacle is to be pitched the Levites shall set it up and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death 52 And the children of Israel shall pitch their tents every man by his own camp and every man by his own standard throughout their hosts 53 But the Levites shall pitch round about the tabernacle of testimony that there be no wrath upon the congregation of the children of Israel and the Levites shall keep the II. 5 The order of the tribes in their tents ANd the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron saying 2 Every man of the children of Israel shall pitch by his own standard with the ensigne of their fathers house † Heb. over against far off about the tabernacle of the congregation shall they pitch 3 ¶ And on the east-side toward the rising of the sun shall they of the standard of the camp of Judah pitch throughout their armies and Nahshon the son of Amminadab shall be captain of the children of Judah 4 And his host and those that were numbred of them were threescore and fourteen thousand and fix hundred 5 And those that do pitch next unto him shall be the tribe of Issachar and Nethaneel the son of Zuar shall be captain of the children of Issachar 6 And his host and those that were numbred thereof were fifty and four thousand and four hundred 7 Then the tribe of Zebulun and Eliab the son of Helon shall be captain of the children of Zebulun 8 And his host and those that were numbred thereof were fifty and seven thousand and four hundred 9 All that were numbred in the camp of Judah were an hundred thousand and sourscore thousand and six thousand and four hundred throughout their armies these
shall first set forth 10 ¶ On the south-side shall be the standard of the camp of Reuben according to their armies and the captain of the children of Reuben shall be Elizur the son of Shedeur 11 And his host and those that were numbred thereof were fourty and six thousand and five hundred 12 And those which pitch by him shall be the tribe of Sim●on and the captain of the children of Simeon shall be Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai 13 And his host and those that were numbred of them were fifty and ●ine thousand and three hundred 14 Then the tribe of Gad and the captain of the sons of Gad shall be Eliasaph the son of Reuel 15 And his host and those that were numbred of them were fourty and five thousand and six hundred and fifty 16 All that were numbred in the camp of Reuben were an hundred thousand and fifty and one thousand and four hundred and fifty throughout their armies and they shall set forth in the second rank 17 ¶ Then the tabernacle of the congregation shall set forward with the camp of the Levites in the midst of the camp as they encamp so shall they set forward every man in his place by their standards 18 ¶ On the west-side shall be the standard of the camp of Ephraim according to their armies and the captain of the sons of Ephraim shall be Elishama the son of Ammihud 19 And his host and those that were numbred of them were fourty thousand and five hundred 20 And by him shall be the tribe of Manasseh and the captain of the children of Manasseh shall be Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur 21 And his host and those that were numbred of them were thirty and two thousand and two hundred 22 Then the tribe of Benjamin and the captain of the sons of Benjamin shall be Abidan the son of Gideoni 23 And his host and those that were numbred of them were thirty and five thousand and four hundred 24 All that were numbred of the camp of Ephraim were an hundred thousand and eight thousand and an hundred throughout their armies and they shall go forward in the third rank 25 ¶ The standard of the camp of Dan shall be on the north-side by their armies and the captain of the children of Dan shall be Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai 26 And his host and those that were numbred of them were threescore and two thousand and seven hundred 27 And those that encamp by him shall be the tribe of Asher and the captain of the children of Asher shall be Pagiel the son of Ocran 28 And his host and those that were numbred of them were fourty and one thousand and five hundred 29 Then the tribe of Naphtali and the captain of the children of Naphtali shall be Ahira the son of Enan 30 And his host and those that were numbred of them were fifty and three thousand and four hundred 31 All they that were numbred in the camp of Dan were an hundred thousand and fifty and seven thousand and six hundred they shall go hindmost with their standards 32 ¶ These are those which were numbred of the children of Israel by the house of their fathers all those that were numbred of the camps throughout their hosts were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty 33 But the Levites were not numbred among the children of Israel as the LORD commanded Moses 34 And the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses so they pitched by their standards and so they set forward every one after their families according to the house of their fathers CHAP. III. 1 The sons of Aaron 5 The Levites are given to the priests for the service of the tabernacle● 11 in stead of the first-born 14 The Levites are numbred by their families 21 The families number and charge of the Gershonites 27 of the Ko●athites 33 of the Merarites 38 The place and charge of Moses and Aaron 40 The first-born are freed by the Levites 44 The overplus are redeemed THese also are the generations of Aaron and Moses in the day that the LORD spake with Moses in mount Sinai 2 And these are the names of the sons of Aaron Nadab the * Exod. 6.23 first-born and Abihu Eleazar and Ithamar 3 These are the names of the sons of Aaron the priests which were anointed † Heb. whose hand be filled whom he consecrated to minister in the priests office 4 * Lev. 10.1 Ch. 26.61 1 Chr. 24.2 And Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD when they offered strange fire before the LORD in the wilderness of Sinai and they had no children and Eleazar and Ithamar ministred in the priests office in the sight of Aaron their father 5 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 6 Bring the tribe of Levi near and present them before Aaron the priest that they may minister unto him 7 And they shall keep his charge and the charge of the whole congregation before the tabernacle of the congregation to do the service of the tabernacle 8 And they shall keep all the instruments of the tabernacle of the congregation and the charge of the children of Israel to do the service of the tabernacle 9 And thou shalt give the Levites unto Aaron and to his sons they are wholly given unto him out of the children of Israel 10 And thou shalt appoint Aaron and his sons and they shall wait on their priests office and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death 11 ¶ And the LORD spake unte Moses saying 12 And I behold I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel in stead of all the first-born that openeth the matrice among the children of Israel therefore the Levites shall be mine 13 Because all the first-born are mine * Exod. 13.2 Lev. 27.26 Chap. 8.16 Luk. 2.23 for on the day that I smote all the first born in the land of Egypt I hallowed unto me all the first-born in Israel both man and beast mine they shall be I am the LORD 14 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai saying 15 Number the children of Levi after the house of their fathers by their families every male from a moneth old and upward shalt thou number them 16 And Moses numbred them according to the † Heb. mouth word of the LORD as he was commanded 17 * Gen. 46.11 Exod. 6.16 Ch. 26.57 1 Chro. 6.1 And these were the sons of Levi by their names Gershon and Kohath and Merari 18 And these are the names of the sons of Gershon by their families Libni and Shimei 19 And the sons of Kohath by their families Amram and Izehar Hebron and Uzziel 20 And the sons of Merari by their families Mahli and Mushi these are the families of the Levites according to the house of their fathers 21 Of Gershon was the family of the Libnites and the family
him that † Heb. doeth sinneth through ignorance both for him that is born amongst the children of Israel and for the stranger that sojourneth among them 30 ¶ But the soul that doeth ought † Heb. with an high hand presumptuously whether he be born in the land or a stranger the same reproacheth the LORD and that soul shall be cut off from among his people 31 Because he hath despised the word of the LORD and hath broken his commandment that soul shall utterly be cut off his iniquity shall be upon him 32 ¶ And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath-day 33 And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron and unto all the congregation 34 And they put him * Lev. 24.12 in ward because it was not declared what should be done to him 35 And the LORD said unto Moses The man shall be surely put to death all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp 36 And all the congregation brought him without the camp and stoned him with stones and he died as the LORD commanded Moses 37 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 38 Speak unto the children of Israel and bid * Deut. 22.12 Mat. 23.5 them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue 39 And it shall be unto you for a fringe that ye may look upon it and remember all the commandments of the LORD and do them and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes after which ye use to go a whoring 40 That ye may remember and do all my commandments and be holy unto your God 41 I am the LORD your God which brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God I am the LORD your God CHAP. XVI 1 The rebellion of Korah Dathan and Abiram 23 Moses separateth the people from the rebels tents 31 The earth swalloweth up Korah and a fire consumeth others 36 The censers are reserved to holy use 41 Fourteen thousand and seven hundred are slain by a plague for murmuring against Moses and Aaron 46 Aaron by incense stayeth the plague NOw * Ch. 27.3 Ecclus 45.18 Jude 11. It is much for you Ye take too much upon you seeing all the congregation are holy everyone of them and the LORD is among them wherefore then lift you up your selves above the congregation of the LORD 4 And when Moses heard it he fell upon his face 5 And he spake unto Korah and unto all his company saying Even to morrow the LORD will shew who are his and who is holy and will cause him to come near unto him even him whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him 6 This do take you censers Korah and all his company 7 And put fire therein and put incense in them before the LORD to morrow and it shall be that the man whom the LORD doth choose he shall be holy ye take too much upon you ye sons of Levi. 8 And Moses said unto Korah Hear I pray you ye sons of Levi 9 Seemeth it but a small thing unto you that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them 10 And he hath brought thee near to him and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee and seek ye the priesthood also 11 For which cause both thou and all thy company are gathered together against the LORD and what is Aaron that ye murmure against him 12 ¶ And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab which said We will not come up 13 Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that floweth with milk and honey to kill us in the wilderness except thou make thy self altogether a prince over us 14 Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land that floweth with milk and honey or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards wilt thou † Heb. here out put out the eyes of these men we will not come up 15 And Moses was very wroth and said unto the LORD * Gen. 4 4. Respect not thou their offering I have not taken one ass from them neither have I hurt one of them 16 And Moses said unto Korah Be thou and all thy company before the LORD thou and they and Aaron to morrow 17 And take every man his censer and put incense in them and bring ye before the LORD every man his censer two hundred and fifty censers thou also and Aaron each of you his censer 18 And they took every man his censer and put fire in them and said incense thereon and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron 19 And Korah gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the congregation 20 And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron saying 21 Separate your selves from among this congregation that I may consume them in a moment 22 And they fell upon their faces and said O God the God of the spirits of all flesh shall one man sin and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation 23 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 24 Speak unto the congregation saying Get you up from about the taberlacle of Korah Dathan and Abiram 25 And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram and the elders of Israel followed him 26 And he spake unto the congregation saying Depart I pray you from the tents of these wicked men and touch nothing of theirs lest ye be consumed in all their sins 27 So they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah Dathan and Abiram on every side and Dathan and Abiram came out and stood in the door of their tents and their wives and their sons and their little children 28 And Moses said Hereby ye shall know that the LORD hath sent me to do all these works for I have not done them of mine own minde 29 If these men die † Heb. as every man dieth the common death of all men or if they be visited after the visitation of all men then
and on my eye-lids is the shadow of d●●th 17 Not far any injustice in mine hands also my prayer is pure 18 O earth cover not thou my bloud and let my cry have no place 19 Also now behold my witness is in heaven and my record is † Heb. in th● high places on high 20 My friends † Heb. are my scorners from me but mine eye poureth out tears unto God 21 O that one might plead for a man with God as a man plea●eth for his † Or. friend neighbour 22 When † Heb. years of number a few years are come then I shall go the way whence I shall not return CHAP. XVII 1 Job appealeth from men to God 6 The unmerciful dealing of men with the a●f●●●ted may asto●●●● but not discourage the righteous 11 His hope is not in life but in death MY † Or spirit is shent bre●th is corrupt my days are extinct that graves are ready for me 2 Are there not mockers with me and not mine eye † Heb. lodge continue in their provocation 3 Lay down now put me in a surety with thee who is he that will strike hands with me 4 For thou hast hid their heart from understanding therefore shalt thou not exalt them 5 He that speaketh flattery to his friends even the eyes of his children shall fail 6 He hath made me also a by-word of the people and ‖ Or before them aforetime I was as a tabret 7 Mine eye also is dim by reason of sorrow and all ‖ Or my thoughts my members are as a shadow 8 Upright men shall be astonied at this and the innocent shall stir up himself against the hypocrite 9 The righteous also shall hold on his way and he that hath clean hands † Heb. shall add strength shall be stronger and stronger 10 But as for you all do you return and come now for I cannot finde one wise man among you 11 My days are past my purposes are broken off even † Heb. the po●s●ssions the thoughts of my heart 12 They change the night into day the light is † Heb. near short because of darkness 13 If I wait the grave is mine house I have made my bed in the darkness 14 I have † Heb. cried or c●lled said to corruption Thou art my father to the worm Thou art my mother and my sister 15 And where is now my hope as for my hope who shall see it 16 They shall go down to the bars of the pit when our rest together is in the dust CHAP. XVIII 1 Bildad retroveth Joh of presumption and impatiency 5 The calamities of the p●icked THen answered Bildad the Shuhite and said 2 How long will it be ere you make an end of words mark and afterwards we will speak 3 Wherefore are we counted as beasts reputed vile in your sight 4 He teareth † Heb. ●is 〈◊〉 himself in his anger shall the earth be forsaken for thee and shall the rock be removed out of his place 5 Yea the light of the wicked shall be put out and the spark of his fire shall not shine 6 The light shall be dark in his tabernacle and his ‖ Or lamp candle shall be put out with him 7 The steps of his strength shall be straitned and his own counsel shall cast him down 8 For he is cast into a net by his own feet and he walketh upon a snare 9 The grin shall take him by the heel and the robber shall prevail against him 10 The snare is † Heb. ●●ed● laid for him in the ground and a trap for him in the way 11 Terrours shall make him afraid on every side and shall † Heb. s●atter him drive him to his feet 12 His strength shall be hunger-bitter and destruction shall he ready at his side 13 It shall devour the † Heb. ha●s strength of his skin even the first-born of death shall devour his strength 14 * Ch. 8.14 11.20 Ps 112.10 Pro. 10.28 His confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle and it shall bring him to the king of terrours 15 It shall dwell in his tabernacle because it is none of his brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation 16 His roots shall be dried up beneath and above shall his branch be cut off 17 * Prov. 2. ●● His remembrance shall perish from the earth and he shall have no name in the street 18 † Heb. ●hey shall ●rl●e him He shall be driven from light into darkness and chased out of the world 19 He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people nor any remaining in his dwellings 20 They that come after him shall be astonied at his day as they that ‖ Or lived with him went before † Heb. laid hold on horrour were affrighted 21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked and this is the place of him that knoweth not God CHAP. XIX 1 Joh complaining of his friends true●ty sle●xeti there is misery c●●●uth in him to feed their c●uelty 21 28. He crateth pity 23 He belee●●th the resuree●tion THen Joh answered and said 2 How long will ye vex my soul and break me in pieces with words 3 These ten times have ye reproached me you are not ashamed that you ‖ Or car ●●n your selves against me make your selves strange to me 4 And be it indeed that I have erred mine errour remaineth with my self 5 If indeed ye will magnifie your selves aga●n●t me and plead against me my repreads 6 Know now that God hath overthrown me and hath compassed me with his not 7 Behold I cry out of ‖ Or ●●oke●●● wrong but I am not heard I cry aloud but there is no judgement 8 He hath fenced up my way that I cannot pass and he hath set darkness in my paths 9 He hath stript me of my glory and taken the crown from my head 10 He hath destroyed me on every side and I am gone and mine hope hath he removed like a tree 11 He hath also kindled his wrath against me and he counteth me unto him as one of his enemies 12 His troups come together and raise up their way against me and encamp round about my tabernacle 13 He hath put my brethren far from me and mine acquaintance are verily estranged from me 14 My kinsfolk have failed and my familiar friends have forgotten me 15 They that dwell in mine house and my maids count me for a stranger I am an aliant in their sight 16 I called my servant and he gave me no answer I entreated him with my mouth † Heb. my ●elly 17 My breath is strange to my wife though I entreated for the childrens sake of † Or the ●icked mine own body 18 Yea ‖ ●s 41.9 ●● 13 14 20. young children despised me I arose and they spake against me 19 All † Heb. the men of
waters to run down like rivers 17 And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most H●gh in the wilderness 18 And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust 19 * Numb 11.4 Yea they spake against God they said Can God † Heb. order furnish a table in the wilderness 20 * Ex. 17.6 Numb 20.11 Behold he smote the rock that the waters gushed out and the streams over-flowed can he give bread also can he provide flesh for his people 21 Therefore the LORD heard this and was wroth so a fire was kindled against Jacob and anger also came up against Israel 22 Because they beleeved not in God and trusted not in his salvation 23 Though he had commanded the clouds from above and opened the doors of heaven 24 * Ex. ●6 14.
