shall first set forth 10 ¶ On the south-side shall be the standard of the camp of Reuben according to their armies and the captain of the children of Reuben shall be Elizur the son of Shedeur 11 And his host and those that were numbred thereof were fourty and six thousand and five hundred 12 And those which pitch by him shall be the tribe of Simâ—on and the captain of the children of Simeon shall be Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai 13 And his host and those that were numbred of them were fifty and â—ine thousand and three hundred 14 Then the tribe of Gad and the captain of the sons of Gad shall be Eliasaph the son of Reuel 15 And his host and those that were numbred of them were fourty and five thousand and six hundred and fifty 16 All that were numbred in the camp of Reuben were an hundred thousand and fifty and one thousand and four hundred and fifty throughout their armies and they shall set forth in the second rank 17 ¶ Then the tabernacle of the congregation shall set forward with the camp of the Levites in the midst of the camp as they encamp so shall they set forward every man in his place by their standards 18 ¶ On the west-side shall be the standard of the camp of Ephraim according to their armies and the captain of the sons of Ephraim shall be Elishama the son of Ammihud 19 And his host and those that were numbred of them were fourty thousand and five hundred 20 And by him shall be the tribe of Manasseh and the captain of the children of Manasseh shall be Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur 21 And his host and those that were numbred of them were thirty and two thousand and two hundred 22 Then the tribe of Benjamin and the captain of the sons of Benjamin shall be Abidan the son of Gideoni 23 And his host and those that were numbred of them were thirty and five thousand and four hundred 24 All that were numbred of the camp of Ephraim were an hundred thousand and eight thousand and an hundred throughout their armies and they shall go forward in the third rank 25 ¶ The standard of the camp of Dan shall be on the north-side by their armies and the captain of the children of Dan shall be Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai 26 And his host and those that were numbred of them were threescore and two thousand and seven hundred 27 And those that encamp by him shall be the tribe of Asher and the captain of the children of Asher shall be Pagiel the son of Ocran 28 And his host and those that were numbred of them were fourty and one thousand and five hundred 29 Then the tribe of Naphtali and the captain of the children of Naphtali shall be Ahira the son of Enan 30 And his host and those that were numbred of them were fifty and three thousand and four hundred 31 All they that were numbred in the camp of Dan were an hundred thousand and fifty and seven thousand and six hundred they shall go hindmost with their standards 32 ¶ These are those which were numbred of the children of Israel by the house of their fathers all those that were numbred of the camps throughout their hosts were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty 33 But the Levites were not numbred among the children of Israel as the LORD commanded Moses 34 And the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses so they pitched by their standards and so they set forward every one after their families according to the house of their fathers CHAP. III. 1 The sons of Aaron 5 The Levites are given to the priests for the service of the tabernacleâ— 11 in stead of the first-born 14 The Levites are numbred by their families 21 The families number and charge of the Gershonites 27 of the Koâ—athites 33 of the Merarites 38 The place and charge of Moses and Aaron 40 The first-born are freed by the Levites 44 The overplus are redeemed THese also are the generations of Aaron and Moses in the day that the LORD spake with Moses in mount Sinai 2 And these are the names of the sons of Aaron Nadab the * Exod. 6.23 first-born and Abihu Eleazar and Ithamar 3 These are the names of the sons of Aaron the priests which were anointed †Heb. whose hand be filled whom he consecrated to minister in the priests office 4 * Lev. 10.1 Ch. 26.61 1 Chr. 24.2 And Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD when they offered strange fire before the LORD in the wilderness of Sinai and they had no children and Eleazar and Ithamar ministred in the priests office in the sight of Aaron their father 5 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 6 Bring the tribe of Levi near and present them before Aaron the priest that they may minister unto him 7 And they shall keep his charge and the charge of the whole congregation before the tabernacle of the congregation to do the service of the tabernacle 8 And they shall keep all the instruments of the tabernacle of the congregation and the charge of the children of Israel to do the service of the tabernacle 9 And thou shalt give the Levites unto Aaron and to his sons they are wholly given unto him out of the children of Israel 10 And thou shalt appoint Aaron and his sons and they shall wait on their priests office and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death 11 ¶ And the LORD spake unte Moses saying 12 And I behold I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel in stead of all the first-born that openeth the matrice among the children of Israel therefore the Levites shall be mine 13 Because all the first-born are mine * Exod. 13.2 Lev. 27.26 Chap. 8.16 Luk. 2.23 for on the day that I smote all the first born in the land of Egypt I hallowed unto me all the first-born in Israel both man and beast mine they shall be I am the LORD 14 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai saying 15 Number the children of Levi after the house of their fathers by their families every male from a moneth old and upward shalt thou number them 16 And Moses numbred them according to the †Heb. mouth word of the LORD as he was commanded 17 * Gen. 46.11 Exod. 6.16 Ch. 26.57 1 Chro. 6.1 And these were the sons of Levi by their names Gershon and Kohath and Merari 18 And these are the names of the sons of Gershon by their families Libni and Shimei 19 And the sons of Kohath by their families Amram and Izehar Hebron and Uzziel 20 And the sons of Merari by their families Mahli and Mushi these are the families of the Levites according to the house of their fathers 21 Of Gershon was the family of the Libnites and the family
of the Shimites these are the families of the Gershonites 22 Those that were numbred of them according to the number of all the males from a moneth old and upward even those that were numbred of them were seven thousand and five hundred 23 The families of the Gershonites shall pitch behinde the tabernacle west-ward 24 And the chief of the house of the father of the Gershonites shall be Eliasaph the son of Lael 25 And the charge of the sons of Gershon in the tabernacle of the congregation shall be the tabernacle and the tent the covering thereof and the hanging for the door of the tabernacle of the congregation 26 And the hangings of the court and the curtain for the door of the court which is by the tabernacle and by the altar round about and the cords of it for all the service thereof 27 ¶ And of Kohath was the family of the Amramites and the family of the Izeharites and the family of the Hebronites and the family of the Uzzielites these are the families of the Kohathites 28 In the number of all the males from a moneth old and uâ—ward were eight thousand six hundred keeping the charge of the sanctâ—ary 29 The families of the sons of Kohath shall pitch on the side of the tabernacle south-ward 30 And the chief of the house of the father of the families of the Kohathites shall be Elizaphan the son of Uzziel 31 And their charge shall be the ark and the table and the candlestick and the altars and the vessels of the sanctuary wherewith they minister and the hanging and all the service thereof 32 And Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall be chief over the chief of the Levites and have the oversight of them that keep the charge of the sanctuary 33 ¶ Of Merari was the family of the Mahlites and the family of the Mushites these are the families of Merari 34 And those that were numbred of them according to the number of all the males from a moneth old and upward were six thousand and two hundred 35 And the chief of the house of the father of the families of Merari was Zuriel the son of Abihail these shall pitch on the side of the tabernacle north-ward 36 And †Heb. the office of the charge under the custody and charge of the sons of Merari shall be the boards of the tabernacle and the bars thereof and the pillars thereof and the sockets thereof and all the vessels thereof and all that serveth thereto 37 And the pillars of the court round about and their sockets and their pins and their cords 38 ¶ But those that encamp before the tabernacle toward the east even before the tabernacle of the congregation east-ward shall be Moses and Aaron and his sons keeping the charge of the sanctuary for the charge of the children of Israel and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death 39 All that were numbred of the Levites which Moses and Aaron numbred at the commandment of the LORD throughout their families all the males from a moneth old and upward were twenty and two thousand 40 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses Number all the first-born of the males of the children of Israel from a moneth old and upward and take the number of their names 41 And thou shalt take the Levites for me I am the LORD in stead of all the first-born among the children of Israel and the cattel of the Levites instead of all the firstlings among the cattel of the children of Israel 42 And Moses numbred as the LORD commanded him all the first-born among the children of Israel 43 And all the first-born males by the number of names from a moneth old and upward of those that were numbred of them were twenty and two thousand two hundred and threescore and thirteen 44 And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 45 Take the Levites in stead of all the first-born among the children of Israel and the cattel of the Levites in stead of their cattel and the Levites shall be mine I am the LORD 46 And for those that are to be redeemed of the two hundred and threescore and thirteen of the first-born of the children of Israel which are more then the Levites 47 Thou shalt even take five shekels a piece by the poll after the shekel of the sanctuary shalt thou take them * Exod. 30.13 Lev. 27.25 Ch. 18.16 Ezek. 45.12 the shekel is twenty gerahs 48 And thou shalt give the money wherewith the odd number of them is to be redeemed unto Aaron and to his sons 49 And Moses took the redemption-money of them that were over and above them that were redeemed by the Levites 50 Of the first-born of the children of Israel took he the money a thousand three hundred and threescore and five shekels after the shekel of the sanctuary 51 And Moses gave the money of them that were redeemed unto Aaron and to his sons according to the word of the LORD as the LORD commanded Moses CHAP. IV. 1 The age and time of the Levites service 4 The carriage of the Kohathites when the priests have taken down the tabernacle 16 The charge of Eleazar 17 The office of the priests 21 The carriage of the Gershonites 29 The carriage of the Merarites 34 The number of the Kohathites 38 of the Gershonites 42 and of the Merarites ANd the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron saying 2 Take the sum of the sons of Kohath from among the sons of Levi after their families by the house of their fathers 3 From thirty years old upward even until fifty years old all that enter into the host to do the work in the tabernacle of the congregation 4 This shall be the service of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the congregation about the most holy things 5 ¶ And when the camp setteth forward Aaron shall come and his sons and they shall take down the covering vail and cover the ark of testimony with it 6 And shall put thereon the covering of badgers skins and shall spread over it a cloth wholly of blue and shall put in the staves thereof 7 And upon the * Ex. 25.30 table of shew-bread they shall spread a cloth of blue and put thereon the dishes and the spoons and the bowls and covers to ‖ Or pour out withal cover withal and the continual bread shall be thereon 8 And they shall spread upon them a cloth of scarlet and cover the same with a covering of badgers skins and shall put in the staves thereof 9 And they shall take a cloth of blue and cover the * Exod. 25.31 candlestick of the light * Exod. 25.37 38. and his lamps and his tongs and his snuff-dishes and all the oyl-vessels thereof wherewith they mâ—nister unto it 10 And they shall put it and all the vessels thereof within a covering of badgers skins and shall put it upon a bar 11 And
turned himself and went out from Pharaoh 7 And Pharaohs servants said unto him How long shall this man be a snare unto us Let the men go that they may serve the LORD their God Knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed 8 And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh and he said unto them Go serve the LORD your God but †Heb. who and who c. who are they that shall go 9 And Moses said We will go with our young and with our old with our sons and with our daughters with our flocks and with our herds will we go for we must hold a feast unto the LORD 10 And he said unto them Let the LORD be so with you as I will let you go and your little ones look to it for evil is before you 11 Not so go now ye that are men and serve the LORD for that you did desire And they were driven out from Pharaohs presence 12 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses Stretch out thine hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts that they may come up upon the land of Egypt and eat every herb of the land even all that the hail hath left 13 And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt and the LORD brought an east-wind upon the land all that day and all that night and when it was morning the east-wind brought the locusts 14 And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt and rested in all the coasts of Egypt very grievous were they before them there were no such locusts as they neither after them shall be such 15 For they covered the face of the whole earth so that the land was darkned and they did eat every herb of the land and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left and there remained not any green thing in the trees or in the herbs of the field through all the land of Egypt 16 ¶ Then Pharaoh †Heb. hastned to call called for Moses and Aaron in haste and he he said I have sinned against the LORD your God and against you 17 Now therefore forgive I pray thee my sin onely this once and intreat the LORD your God that he may take away from me this death onely 18 And he went out from Pharaoh and intreated the LORD 19 And the LORD turned a mighty strong west-wind which took away the locusts and †Heb. fastned cast them into the Red sea there remained not one locust in all the coasts of Egypt 20 But the LORD hardned Pharaohs heart so that he would not let the children of Israel go 21 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses Stretch out thine hand toward heaven that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt †Heb. that one may feel darkness even darkness which may be felt 22 And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days 23 They saw not one another neither rose any from his place for three days * Wisd 18.1 but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings 24 ¶ And Pharaoh called unto Moses and said Go ye serve the LORD onely let your flocks and your herds be stayed let your little ones also go with you 25 And Moses said Thou must give †Heb. into our hands us also sacrifices and burnt-offerings that we may sacrifice unto the LORD our God 26 Our cattel also shall go with us there shall not an hoof be left behinde for thereof must we take to serve the LORD our God and we know not with what we must serve the LORD until we come thither 27 ¶ But the LORD hardned Pharaohs heart and he would not let them go 28 And Pharaoh said unto him Get thee from me take heed to thy self see my face no more for in that day thou seest my face thou shalt die 29 And Moses said Thou hast spoken well I will see thy face again no more CHAP. XI 1 Gods message to the Israelites to borrow jewels of their neighbours 4 Moses threatneth Pharaoh with the death of the first-born ANd the LORD said unto Moses Yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaph and upon Egypt afterwards he will let you go hence when he shall let you go he shall surely thrust you out hence altogether 2 Speak now in the ears of the people and let every man borrow of his neighbour and every woman of her neighbour * Chap. â— 22 and 12 35. jewels of silver and jewels of gold 3 And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians Moreover the man * Eccluâ— 45.1 Moses was very great in the land of Egypt in the sight of Pharaohs servants and in the sight of the people 4 And Moses said Thus saith the LORD * Chap. 12.29 About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt 5 And all the first-born in the land of Egypt shall die from the first-born of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne even unto the first-born of the maid servant that is behinde the mill and all the first-born of beasts 6 And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt such as there was none like it nor shall be like it any more 7 But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue against man or beast that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel 8 And all these thy servants shall come down unto me and bow down themselves unto me saying Get thee out and all the people †Heb. that is at thy feet that follow thee and after that I will go out and he went out from Pharaoh in †Heb. heat of anger a great anger 9 And the LORD said unto Moses Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt 10 And Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh and the LORD hardned Pharaohs heart so that he would not let the children of Israel go out of his land CHAP. XII 1 The beginning of the year is changed 3 The pass-over is instituted 11 The rice of the pass-over 15Vnleavened bread 29 The first-born are slain 31 The Israelites are driven out of the land 37 They come to Succoth 43 The ordinance of the pass-over ANd the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt saying 2 This moneth shall be unto you the beginning of moneths it shall be the first moneth of the year to you 3 ¶ Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel saying In the tenth day of this moneth they shall take to them every man a ‖ Or kid lamb according to the house of their fathers a lamb for an house 4 And if the hoâ—â—hold be too little for the lamb let him his neighbour next unto his

of their fathers according to the number of the names from twenty years old and upward all that were able to go forth to war 29 Those that were numbred of them even of the tribe of Issachar were fifty and four thousand and four hundred 30 ¶ Of the children of Zebulun by their generations after their families by the house of their fathers according to the number of the names from twenty years old and upward all that were able to go forth to war 31 Those that were numbred of them even of the tribe of Zebulun were fifty and seven thousand and four hundred 32 ¶ Of the children of Joseph namely of the children of Ephraim by their generations after their families by the house of their fathers according to the number of the names from twenty years old and upward all that were able to go forth to war 33 Those that were numbred of them even of the tribe of Ephraim were fourty thousand and five hundred 34 ¶ Of the children of Manasseh by their generations after their families by the house of their fathers according to the number of the names from twenty years old and upward all that were able to go forth to war 35 Those that were numbred of them even of the tribe of Manasseh were thirty and two thousand and two hundred 36 ¶ Of the children of Benjamin by their generations after their families by the house of their fathers according to the number of the names from twenty years old and upward all that were able to go forth to war 37 Those that were numbred of them even of the tribe of Benjamin were thirty and five thousand and four hundred 38 ¶ Of the children of Dan by their generations after their families by the house of their fathers according to the number of the names from twenty years old and upward all that were able to go forth to war 39 Those that were numbred of them even of the tribe of Dan were thereescore and two thousand and seven hundred 40 ¶ Of the children of Asher by their generations after their families by the house of their fathers according to the number of the names from twenty years old and upward all that were able to go forth to war 41 Those that were numbred of them even of the tribe of Asher were fourty and one thousand and five hundred 42 ¶ Of the children of Naphtali throughout their generations after their families by the house of their fathers according to the number of the names from twenty years old and upward all that were able to go forth to war 43 Those that were numbred of them even of the tribe of Naphtali were fifty and three thousand and four hundred 44 These are those that were numbred which Moses and Aaron numbred and the princes of Israel being twelve men each one was for the house of his fathers 45 So were all those that were numbred of the children of Israel by the house of their fathers from twenty years old and upward all that were able to go forth to war in Israel 46 Even all they that were numbred were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty 47 But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not numbred among them 48 For the LORD had spoken unto Moses saying 49 Onely thou shalt not number the tribe of Levi neither take the sum of them among the children of Israel 50 But thou shalt appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony and over all the vessels thereof and over all things that belong to it they shall bear the tabernacle and all the vessels thereof and they shall minister unto it and shall encamp round about the tabernacle 51 And when the tabernacle setteth forward the Levites shall take it down and when the tabernacle is to be pitched the Levites shall set it up and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death 52 And the children of Israel shall pitch their tents every man by his own camp and every man by his own standard throughout their hosts 53 But the Levites shall pitch round about the tabernacle of testimony that there be no wrath upon the congregation of the children of Israel and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of testimony 54 And the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses so did they CHAP. II. 5 The order of the tribes in their tents ANd the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron saying 2 Every man of the children of Israel shall pitch by his own standard with the ensigne of their fathers house †Heb. over against far off about the tabernacle of the congregation shall they pitch 3 ¶ And on the east-side toward the rising of the sun shall they of the standard of the camp of Judah pitch throughout their armies and Nahshon the son of Amminadab shall be captain of the children of Judah 4 And his host and those that were numbred of them were threescore and fourteen thousand and fix hundred 5 And those that do pitch next unto him shall be the tribe of Issachar and Nethaneel the son of Zuar shall be captain of the children of Issachar 6 And his host and those that were numbred thereof were fifty and four thousand and four hundred 7 Then the tribe of Zebulun and Eliab the son of Helon shall be captain of the children of Zebulun 8 And his host and those that were numbred thereof were fifty and seven thousand and four hundred 9 All that were numbred in the camp of Judah were an hundred thousand and sourscore thousand and six thousand and four hundred throughout their armies these
him that †Heb. doeth sinneth through ignorance both for him that is born amongst the children of Israel and for the stranger that sojourneth among them 30 ¶ But the soul that doeth ought †Heb. with an high hand presumptuously whether he be born in the land or a stranger the same reproacheth the LORD and that soul shall be cut off from among his people 31 Because he hath despised the word of the LORD and hath broken his commandment that soul shall utterly be cut off his iniquity shall be upon him 32 ¶ And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath-day 33 And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron and unto all the congregation 34 And they put him * Lev. 24.12 in ward because it was not declared what should be done to him 35 And the LORD said unto Moses The man shall be surely put to death all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp 36 And all the congregation brought him without the camp and stoned him with stones and he died as the LORD commanded Moses 37 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 38 Speak unto the children of Israel and bid * Deut. 22.12 Mat. 23.5 them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue 39 And it shall be unto you for a fringe that ye may look upon it and remember all the commandments of the LORD and do them and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes after which ye use to go a whoring 40 That ye may remember and do all my commandments and be holy unto your God 41 I am the LORD your God which brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God I am the LORD your God CHAP. XVI 1 The rebellion of Korah Dathan and Abiram 23 Moses separateth the people from the rebels tents 31 The earth swalloweth up Korah and a fire consumeth others 36 The censers are reserved to holy use 41 Fourteen thousand and seven hundred are slain by a plague for murmuring against Moses and Aaron 46 Aaron by incense stayeth the plague NOw * Ch. 27.3 Ecclus 45.18 Jude 11. Korah the son of Izhar the son of Kohath the son of Levi and Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab and On the son of Peleth sons of Reuben took men 2 And they rose up before Moses with certain of the children of Israel two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly * Ch. 26.9 famous in the congregation men of renown 3 And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron and said unto them †Heb. It is much for you Ye take too much upon you seeing all the congregation are holy everyone of them and the LORD is among them wherefore then lift you up your selves above the congregation of the LORD 4 And when Moses heard it he fell upon his face 5 And he spake unto Korah and unto all his company saying Even to morrow the LORD will shew who are his and who is holy and will cause him to come near unto him even him whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him 6 This do take you censers Korah and all his company 7 And put fire therein and put incense in them before the LORD to morrow and it shall be that the man whom the LORD doth choose he shall be holy ye take too much upon you ye sons of Levi. 8 And Moses said unto Korah Hear I pray you ye sons of Levi 9 Seemeth it but a small thing unto you that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them 10 And he hath brought thee near to him and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee and seek ye the priesthood also 11 For which cause both thou and all thy company are gathered together against the LORD and what is Aaron that ye murmure against him 12 ¶ And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab which said We will not come up 13 Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that floweth with milk and honey to kill us in the wilderness except thou make thy self altogether a prince over us 14 Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land that floweth with milk and honey or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards wilt thou †Heb. here out put out the eyes of these men we will not come up 15 And Moses was very wroth and said unto the LORD * Gen. 4 4. Respect not thou their offering I have not taken one ass from them neither have I hurt one of them 16 And Moses said unto Korah Be thou and all thy company before the LORD thou and they and Aaron to morrow 17 And take every man his censer and put incense in them and bring ye before the LORD every man his censer two hundred and fifty censers thou also and Aaron each of you his censer 18 And they took every man his censer and put fire in them and said incense thereon and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron 19 And Korah gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the congregation 20 And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron saying 21 Separate your selves from among this congregation that I may consume them in a moment 22 And they fell upon their faces and said O God the God of the spirits of all flesh shall one man sin and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation 23 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 24 Speak unto the congregation saying Get you up from about the taberlacle of Korah Dathan and Abiram 25 And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram and the elders of Israel followed him 26 And he spake unto the congregation saying Depart I pray you from the tents of these wicked men and touch nothing of theirs lest ye be consumed in all their sins 27 So they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah Dathan and Abiram on every side and Dathan and Abiram came out and stood in the door of their tents and their wives and their sons and their little children 28 And Moses said Hereby ye shall know that the LORD hath sent me to do all these works for I have not done them of mine own minde 29 If these men die †Heb. as every man dieth the common death of all men or if they be visited after the visitation of all men then

XIX 1 A Levite geoth to Beth-lehem to feteh home his wife 16 An old man entertaineth him at Gibeah 22 The Gibeathithes abuse his concubine to death 29 He divideth her into twelve pieces to send them to the twelve tribes ANd it came to pass in those days * Ch. 17.6 18.1 21.25 when there was no king in Israel that there was a certain Levite sojourning on the side of mount Ephraim who took to him †Heb. a woman a concubine or a wife a concubine a concubine out of Beth-lehein-judah 2 And his concubine played the whore against him and went away from him unto her fathers house to Beth-lehem-judah and was there ‖ Or a year and four moneths †Heb. days four moneths four whole moneths 3 And her husband arofe and went after her to speak †Heb. to her heart friendly unto her and to bring her again having his servant with him and a couple of asses and she brought him into her fathers house and when the father of the damsel saw him he rejoyced to meet him 4 And his father in law the damsels father retained him and he abode with him three days so they did eat and drink and lodged there 5 And it came to pass on the fourth day when they arose early in the morning that he rose up to depart and the damsels father said unto his son in law †Heb. Strengthen Comfort thine heart with a morsel of bread and afterward go your way 6 And they sat down and did eat and drink both of them together for the damsels father had said unto the man Be content I pray thee and tarry all night and let thine heart be merry 7 And when the man rose up to depart his father in law urged him therefore he lodged there again 8 And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart and the damsels father said Comfort thine heart I pray thee And they tarried †Heb. till the day declined until after noon and they did eat both of them 9 And when the man rose up to depart he and his concubine and his servant his father in law the damsels father said unto him Behold now the day †Heb. is weak draweth towards evening I pray you tarry all night behold †Heb. it is the pitching time of the day the day groweth to an end lodge here that thine heart may be merry and to morrow get you early on your way that thou mayest go †Heb. to thy tent home 10 But the man would not tarry that night but he rose up and departed and came †Heb. to over against over against Jebus which is Jerusalem and there were with him two asses saddled his concubine also was with him 11 And when they were by Jebus the day was far spent and the servant said unto his master Come I pray thee and let us turn in unto this city of the Jebusites and lodge in it 12 And his master said unto him We will not turn aside hither into the city of a stranger that is not of the children of Israel we will pass over to Gibeah 13 And he said unto his servant Come and let us draw near to one of these places to lodge all night in Gibeah or in Ramah 14 And they passed on and went their way and the sun went down upon them when they were by Gibeah which belongeth to Benjamin 15 And they turned aside thither to go in and to lodge in Gibeah and when he went in he sat him down in a street of the city for there was no man that took them into his house to lodging 16 ¶ And behold there came an old man from his work out of the field at even which was also of mount Ephraim and he sojourned in Gibeah but the men of the place were Benjamites 17 And when he had lift up his eyes he saw a wayfaring man in the steeet of the city and the old man said Whither goest thousand whence cornest thou 18 And he said unto him We are passing from Beth-lehem-judah toward the side of mount Ephraim from thence am I and I went to Beth-lehem-judah but I am now going to the house of the LORD and there is no man that †Heb. gatherâ—â—â— receiveth me to house 19 Yet there is both straw and provender for our asses and there is bread and wine also for me and for thy hand-maid and for the young man which is with thy servants there is no want of any thing 20 And the old man said Peace be with thee howsoever let all thy wants lie upon me onely lodge not in the street 21 So he brought him into his house and gave provender unto the asses and they washed their feet and did eat and drink 22 ¶ Now as they were making their hearts merry behold the men of the city certain sons of Belial belet the house round about and beat at the door and spake to the master of the house the old man saying Bring forth the man that came into thine house that we may know him 23 And * Gen 19.6 the man the master of the

XXIII 1 Jehoiada having sit things in order maketh Joash king 12 Athaliah is slain 16. Let the king live God save the king 12 ¶ Now when Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king she came to the people into the house of the LORD 13 And she looked and behold the king stood at his pillar at the entring in and the princes and the trumpets by the king and all the people of the land rejoyced and sounded with trumpets also the singers with instruments of musick and such as taught to sing praise Then Athaliah rent her clothes and said †Heb. conspiracy Treason treason 14 Then Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds that were set over the host and said unto them Have her forth of the ranges and whoso followeth her let him be slain with the sword For the priest said Slay her not in the house of the LORD 15 So they laid hands on her and when she was come to the entring of the hors gate by the kings house they slew her there 16 ¶ And Jehoiada made a covenant between him and between all the people and between the king that they should be the LORDS people 17 Then all the people went to the house of Baal and brakeit down and brake his altars and his images in pieces and * Deu. 13.9 slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars 18 Also Jehoiada appointed the offices of the house of the LORD by the hand of the priests the Levites whom David had * 1 Chr. 24.1 distributed in the house of the LORD to offer the burnt-offerings of the LORD as it is written in the * Na. 28.2 law of Moses with rejoyting and with singing as it was ordained †Heb. by the hands of David by David 19 And he set the * 1 Chr 26 1 c. porters at the gates of the house of the LORD that none which was unclean in any thing should enter in 20 And he took the captains of hundreds and the nobles and the governours of the people and all the people of the land and brought down the king from the house of the LORD and they came through the high gate into the kings house and set the king upon the throne of the kingdom 21 And all the people of the land rejoyced and the city was quiet after that they had slain Athaliah with the sword CHAP. XXIV 1 Joash reigneth well all the days of Jehoiada 4 He giveth order for the repair of the temple 15 Jehoiada his death and honourable burial 17 Joash falling to idolatry slayeth Zechariah the son of Jehoiada 23 Joash is spoiled by the Syrians and slain by Zabad and Jehozabad 37 Amaziah succeedeth him JOash * 2 Kin. 12 1 c was seven years old when he began to reign and he reigned fourty years in Jerusalem his mothers name also was Zibeah of Beer-sheba 2 And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest 3 And Jehoiada took for him two wives and he begat sons and daughters 4 ¶ And it came to pass after this that Joash was minded †Heb. to renew to repair the house of the LORD 5 And
