thereby_o which_o they_o forme_o receive_v in_o and_o by_o they_o and_o still_o will_v have_v not_o such_o a_o unhappy_a scandal_n be_v lay_v in_o their_o way_n which_o be_v no_o small_a offence_n and_o sin_n against_o christ_n and_o this_o also_o we_o know_v to_o be_v another_o product_n thereof_o such_o christian_n not_o dare_v to_o neglect_v the_o observance_n and_o ordinance_n of_o the_o lordsday_n because_o of_o their_o former_a persuasion_n practice_n and_o experience_n and_o yet_o do_v it_o with_o doubt_n and_o fear_n lest_o they_o shall_v sin_n thereby_o because_o of_o this_o piece_n 2._o a_o pervert_n and_o withdraw_v of_o the_o more_o simple_a and_o unstable_a into_o this_o opinion_n which_o we_o doubt_v not_o to_o assert_v and_o question_v not_o to_o evidence_n to_o be_v ill_o ground_v and_o false_a and_o so_o will_v prove_v a_o scandal_n indeed_o even_o to_o lead_v into_o and_o to_o build_v up_o in_o sin_n and_o a_o unwarrantable_a practice_n and_o thus_o to_o offend_v weak_a one_o in_o christ_n be_v a_o very_a great_a evil_n 1_o cor._n 8.11_o 12._o but_o suppose_v the_o author_n notion_n be_v orthodox_n and_o the_o contrary_a heterodox_n yet_o another_o pernicious_a tendency_n of_o it_o be_v 4._o by_o a_o proselyte_n of_o some_o person_n or_o some_o minister_n so_o many_o as_o may_v make_v assembly_n and_o congregation_n he_o will_v be_v the_o author_n of_o a_o needless_a schism_n and_o separation_n and_o of_o inevitable_a feud_n rancour_n and_o mutual_a reproach_n and_o condemnation_n the_o observer_n of_o the_o lord_n day_n will_v decry_v and_o exclaim_v against_o the_o other_o as_o jew_n and_o proud_a schismatic_n and_o the_o keeper_n of_o the_o seven_o day_n will_v censure_v and_o condemn_v the_o other_o as_o wilful_a breaker_n of_o god_n express_a command_n and_o profane_a complier_n with_o the_o will_n and_o tradition_n of_o men._n and_o he_o that_o have_v not_o the_o gift_n of_o prophecy_n may_v easy_o foretell_v what_o sinful_a and_o dismal_a fruit_n will_v grow_v upon_o such_o a_o root_n of_o bitterness_n man_n shall_v be_v cautious_a how_o they_o disturb_v the_o peace_n of_o the_o church_n and_o rend_v our_o saviour_n seamless_a garment_n 5._o he_o shall_v serious_o have_v ponder_v the_o day_n and_o time_n we_o be_v fall_v into_o the_o sad_a and_o deplorable_a division_n of_o the_o church_n of_o god_n among_o we_o and_o the_o dangerous_a and_o fearful_a prejudices_fw-la rancour_n and_o enmity_n beget_v and_o foment_v thereby_o with_o the_o uncharitable_a and_o inexcusable_a effect_n they_o have_v produce_v already_o in_o tongue_n pen_n and_o hand_n as_o the_o general_a division_n between_o conformist_n and_o nonconformist_n and_o the_o divers_a opinion_n party_n and_o separate_v society_n of_o the_o latter_a though_o bless_v be_v god_n the_o most_o considerable_a and_o orthodox_n of_o they_o the_o independent_o and_o presbyterian_o have_v coalesce_v in_o their_o subscription_n to_o article_n of_o agreement_n and_o how_o unseasonable_a and_o inconvenient_a it_o be_v therefore_o to_o broach_v new_a opinion_n among_o they_o and_o to_o increase_v their_o division_n and_o animosity_n and_o so_o also_o give_v a_o advantange_n to_o their_o observer_n to_o increase_v their_o prejudices_fw-la and_o augment_v their_o accusation_n against_o they_o and_o their_o insulting_n over_o they_o as_o fickle_a inconstant_a and_o heady_a not_o know_v where_o to_o fix_v nor_o what_o to_o hold_v and_o practise_v now_o that_o they_o have_v forsake_v a_o universal_a and_o uninterrupted_a conformity_n unto_o they_o such_o a_o stout_a nonconformist_a to_o the_o church_n of_o england_n aught_o to_o have_v use_v all_o caution_n not_o to_o have_v give_v the_o least_o occasion_n of_o weaken_v or_o vilify_n his_o own_o party_n 6_o last_o all_o these_o thing_n lay_v together_o in_o the_o balance_n of_o a_o sound_a judgement_n will_v have_v inform_v he_o that_o no_o such_o thing_n as_o he_o have_v hereby_o attempt_v shall_v have_v be_v undertake_v unless_o it_o have_v be_v about_o the_o most_o weighty_a and_o necessary_a truth_n of_o our_o religion_n such_o as_o do_v necessary_o concern_v the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o the_o salvation_n of_o soul_n or_o very_o near_o border_v thereupon_o which_o i_o hope_v he_o do_v not_o believe_v the_o controversy_n to_o be_v see_v it_o be_v not_o not_o about_o the_o substance_n of_o duty_n or_o the_o very_a heart_n of_o a_o command_n but_o only_o about_o the_o least_o circumstance_n if_o i_o may_v so_o term_v it_o of_o it_o not_o about_o what_o proportion_n of_o time_n god_n shall_v have_v consecrate_a to_o his_o service_n for_o that_o be_v agree_v to_o be_v the_o seven_o but_o only_o what_o day_n of_o two_o of_o they_o must_v be_v that_o day_n of_o the_o week_n and_o therefore_o he_o that_o observe_v the_o firstday_n give_v and_o devote_v to_o god_n the_o seven_o part_n of_o his_o time_n as_o well_o and_o as_o much_o as_o he_o that_o do_v the_o seventh-day_n wherefore_o though_o the_o author_n integrity_n and_o intent_n may_v not_o be_v question_v yet_o certain_o his_o prudence_n in_o this_o work_n and_o the_o work_n under_o such_o circumstance_n be_v no_o way_n plausible_a and_o he_o

one_o in_o a_o age_n do_v so_o much_o as_o fancy_v it_o 3._o because_o by_o his_o own_o orthodox_n assertion_n in_o this_o very_a place_n the_o moral_a law_n be_v reingraven_v that_o be_v more_o full_o clear_o and_o distinct_o and_o in_o its_o spiritual_a sense_n and_o latitude_n upon_o the_o heart_n of_o those_o that_o be_v revive_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n which_o be_v the_o image_n call_v enlighten_v and_o sanctify_v have_v not_o the_o law_n of_o the_o seventh-day-sabbath_n write_v in_o their_o heart_n nay_o they_o have_v a_o aversion_n from_o it_o of_o all_o true_o religious_a in_o their_o regeneration_n and_o be_v increase_v in_o they_o in_o their_o progressive_a sanctification_n whence_o it_o be_v also_o clear_a that_o this_o command_n thus_o state_v be_v not_o give_v by_o christ_n to_o jew_n and_o gentile_n in_o the_o creation_n and_o his_o proof_n for_o it_o be_v very_o weak_a and_o invalid_a which_o be_v take_v from_o those_o express_a command_v give_v by_o god_n to_o the_o jew_n of_o cause_v they_o that_o be_v either_o their_o substance_n slave_n buy_v with_o their_o own_o money_n or_o proselyte_n stranger_n by_o nation_n but_o yet_o join_v themselves_o to_o they_o and_o dwell_v among_o they_o and_o so_o be_v of_o their_o body_n who_o be_v bind_v as_o he_o himself_o there_o acknowledge_v and_o prove_v to_o be_v circumcise_a to_o observe_v the_o passover_n etc._n etc._n and_o now_o what_o tendency_n have_v this_o to_o prove_v that_o the_o seventh-day-sabbath_n be_v give_v to_o jew_n and_o gentile_n when_o this_o prove_v only_o that_o those_o gentile_n be_v bind_v to_o keep_v it_o who_o be_v within_o the_o gate_n and_o of_o their_o body_n politic_a but_o have_v no_o reference_n to_o nor_o do_v at_o all_o concern_v other_o gentile_n some_o of_o which_o may_v never_o hear_v of_o the_o name_n of_o israel_n or_o of_o any_o of_o their_o law_n and_o sabbath_n it_o pity_v i_o to_o see_v such_o weak_a and_o invalid_a argument_n which_o if_o they_o have_v any_o force_n it_o be_v to_o judaize_v all_o the_o christian_n world_n as_o to_o the_o second_o part_n of_o the_o question_n whether_o the_o weekly_a seventh-day-sabbath_n be_v observe_v ever_o after_o during_o the_o old_a church_n we_o acknowledge_v it_o be_v so_o still_o among_o the_o jewish_a nation_n and_o he_o need_v not_o to_o have_v produce_v any_o proof_n for_o it_o but_o withal_o we_o say_v never_o among_o any_o other_o nation_n nor_o any_o footstep_n of_o it_o which_o be_v a_o sure_a proof_n against_o its_o proper_a morality_n as_o to_o that_o observation_n page_n 28._o that_o the_o seven_o day_n throughout_o the_o old_a and_o new_a testament_n be_v call_v the_o sabbath_n day_n it_o be_v fit_a it_o shall_v be_v so_o all_o along_o till_o our_o saviour_n resurrection_n because_o it_o be_v the_o sabbath_n day_n till_o then_o and_o afterward_o if_o it_o be_v so_o call_v it_o be_v in_o compliance_n with_o the_o jew_n who_o still_o hold_v it_o so_o to_o continue_v or_o to_o use_v the_o expression_n which_o be_v in_o most_o common_a use_n whereby_o the_o day_n may_v be_v know_v they_o speak_v of_o as_o we_o do_v of_o sunday_n monday_n etc._n etc._n only_o to_o declare_v what_o day_n of_o the_o week_n we_o mean_v or_o else_o to_o declare_v the_o abolition_n thereof_o and_o if_o we_o remember_v it_o we_o may_v make_v some_o use_n of_o that_o assertion_n that_o the_o seven_o day_n and_o sabbath_n be_v synonimous_a in_o the_o language_n of_o the_o old_a and_o new_a testament_n sect_n v._o this_o question_n he_o endeavour_v to_o prove_v assirmative_o page_n 29._o that_o christ_n do_v in_o the_o flesh_n confirm_v the_o ten_o command_n without_o any_o exception_n of_o the_o four_o commandment_n or_o any_o part_n or_o tittle_n thereof_o which_o if_o we_o shall_v full_o grant_v without_o the_o least_o exception_n it_o will_v make_v nothing_o for_o his_o cause_n nor_o against_o we_o for_o as_o long_o as_o christ_n be_v in_o the_o world_n so_o long_o we_o all_o agree_v that_o the_o seven_o day_n of_o the_o week_n be_v the_o enjoy_v sabbath_n and_o therefore_o aught_o to_o be_v observe_v and_o so_o may_v have_v be_v command_v by_o christ_n to_o be_v keep_v and_o so_o we_o know_v he_o ratify_v the_o ceremonial_a law_n by_o command_v the_o cleanse_a leper_n to_o go_v and_o show_v themselves_o to_o the_o priest_n and_o offer_v the_o gift_n which_o moses_n command_v for_o their_o cleanse_n matt._n 8.4_o and_o so_o also_o the_o judicial_a law_n by_o enjoin_v they_o to_o pay_v tithe_n of_o all_o even_o of_o mint_n annis_n and_o cummin_n matt._n 23.23_o which_o i_o think_v few_o or_o none_o do_v hold_v to_o be_v pure_o moral_a and_o so_o the_o brother_n be_v take_v of_o his_o childless_a brother_n wife_n he_o seem_v to_o confirm_v by_o a_o tacit_fw-la approbation_n to_o the_o sadducee_n object_v that_o to_o he_o to_o baffle_v and_o puzzle_v he_o about_o the_o resurrection_n matt._n 22.23_o 30._o yet_o nevertheless_o those_o law_n be_v not_o permanent_a but_o expire_v the_o ceremonial_a with_o himself_o and_o the_o judicial_a with_o the_o judicial_a state_n and_o polity_n withal_o we_o add_v that_o our_o saviour_n do_v for_o ever_o confirm_v the_o moral_a law_n which_o be_v contain_v in_o the_o ten_o commandment_n and_o so_o the_o four_o as_o far_o as_o moral_a and_o in_o all_o that_o it_o command_v as_o such_o but_o withal_o we_o say_v that_o some_o passage_n of_o the_o four_o command_n be_v neither_o moral_a nor_o yet_o command_v therein_o as_o such_o or_o of_o the_o substance_n thereof_o whereof_o the_o mention_v of_o the_o last_o the_o seven_o day_n of_o the_o week_n to_o be_v the_o sacred_a rest_n be_v one_o which_o here_o be_v but_o naked_o assert_v but_o we_o defer_v the_o proof_n and_o such_o as_o be_v to_o expire_v at_o his_o resurrection_n wherefore_o we_o say_v that_o that_o passage_n matt._n 5.17_o till_o heaven_n and_o earth_n pass_v away_o one_o jot_n or_o one_o tittle_n shall_v in_o no_o wise_a pass_n away_o must_v refer_v only_o to_o the_o moral_a law_n quatenus_fw-la moral_n and_o as_o it_o refer_v to_o and_o oblige_v all_o nation_n which_o several_a passage_n belong_v to_o the_o ten_o command_n do_v not_o whereof_o this_o be_v one_o about_o the_o seven_o day_n and_o i_o think_v the_o be_v may_v be_v clear_v by_o this_o argument_n that_o which_o neither_o our_o saviour_n himself_o nor_o any_o of_o his_o apostle_n do_v command_v or_o enjoin_v to_o be_v follow_v by_o he_o or_o their_o disciple_n and_o follower_n can_v be_v moral_a but_o neither_o he_o nor_o they_o do_v ever_o enjoin_v the_o seventh-day-sabbath_n therefore_o it_o be_v not_o moral_a our_o saviour_n in_o none_o of_o his_o discourse_n that_o i_o remember_v do_v ever_o express_o or_o particular_o command_v the_o observance_n of_o the_o sabbath-day_n but_o speak_v and_o do_v thing_n which_o seem_v to_o declare_v the_o abolition_n of_o the_o seven_o day_n neither_o do_v any_o of_o his_o apostle_n in_o any_o of_o their_o write_n impose_v it_o upon_o or_o command_v
and_o not_o the_o seven_o in_o order_n or_o the_o last_o day_n of_o the_o week_n this_o we_o say_v be_v not_o express_o command_v therein_o and_o may_v be_v alter_v for_o another_o day_n of_o the_o seven_o upon_o very_o good_a and_o authentic_a reason_n and_o ground_n as_o it_o be_v from_o it_o to_o the_o first_o in_o this_o same_o page_n he_o return_v to_o our_o saviour_n confirmation_n of_o the_o decalogue_n from_o mat._n 5.17_o 19_o luke_n 16.17_o and_o then_o ask_v why_o those_o place_n confirm_v all_o the_o 10_o command_n and_o not_o the_o seventh-day-sabbath_n and_o tell_v we_o that_o he_o can_v assign_v no_o other_o reason_n for_o it_o but_o the_o marvellous_a corruption_n of_o our_o nature_n which_o incline_v we_o to_o be_v god_n etc._n etc._n when_o yet_o he_o know_v that_o they_o that_o be_v for_o the_o change_n of_o the_o seven_o into_o the_o first-day-sabbath_n have_v give_v he_o many_o reason_n and_o good_a scriptural_a ground_n and_o argument_n which_o do_v amount_v in_o their_o esteem_n to_o a_o divine_a authority_n for_o that_o change_n though_o they_o do_v not_o produce_v a_o express_a command_n for_o it_o as_o that_o which_o he_o seem_v to_o require_v in_o this_o paragraph_n yet_o what_o amount_v thereto_o but_o it_o seem_v all_o these_o be_v not_o reason_n to_o he_o be_v not_o so_o much_o as_o show_v of_o reason_n but_o the_o only_a reason_n be_v man_n corruption_n pride_n and_o rebellion_n whereas_o he_o can_v but_o know_v that_o many_o of_o those_o who_o in_o doctrine_n and_o practice_n admit_v of_o this_o change_n be_v as_o free_v from_o these_o vice_n and_o have_v as_o much_o mortify_v they_o as_o himself_o and_o be_v as_o eminent_a for_o holiness_n and_o humility_n and_o obedience_n to_o god_n as_o any_o sabbatarian_n primary_o moral_a and_o by_o christ_n confirm_v as_o well_o as_o all_o the_o other_o command_v which_o be_v undeniable_o so_o whence_o come_v it_o to_o pass_v that_o in_o all_o his_o sermon_n and_o discourse_n that_o he_o make_v to_o the_o jew_n about_o the_o moral_a law_n he_o do_v not_o so_o much_o as_o ever_o mention_v the_o sabbath_n to_o his_o hearer_n either_o by_o way_n of_o recommendation_n of_o it_o to_o they_o or_o commend_v of_o they_o for_o their_o zeal_n for_o it_o and_o tthe_v strict_a observance_n of_o it_o nor_o yet_o command_v of_o its_o observance_n or_o teach_v they_o how_o they_o shall_v keep_v and_o sanctify_v it_o according_a to_o its_o first_o institution_n see_v it_o be_v clear_a that_o he_o in_o his_o discourse_n do_v particularize_v every_o other_o duty_n of_o the_o moral_a law_n and_o exhort_v and_o require_v obedience_n thereto_o in_o all_o his_o most_o copious_a and_o glorious_a sermon_n upon_o the_o mount_n where_o he_o explain_v in_o their_o condemn_v he_o and_o his_o disciple_n as_o profaner_n of_o the_o sabbath_n etc._n etc._n to_o expound_v the_o duty_n of_o the_o sabbath_n and_o to_o show_v they_o wherein_o the_o due_a religious_a and_o acceptable_a observance_n of_o the_o seventh-day-sabbath_n consist_v there_o be_v not_o the_o least_o word_n appertain_v hereunto_o utter_v by_o he_o only_o a_o vindication_n of_o his_o own_o and_o his_o disciple_n practice_n from_o a_o profanation_n thereof_o if_o i_o may_v judge_v at_o the_o reason_n i_o think_v they_o may_v be_v such_o as_o these_o 1_o because_o he_o know_v that_o it_o be_v not_o of_o the_o same_o nature_n with_o the_o other_o not_o moral_a as_o they_o nor_o necessary_a to_o be_v keep_v to_o salvation_n as_o they_o 2._o because_o he_o see_v the_o jew_n conversion_n into_o the_o first_o day_n 5._o because_o as_o place_n priesthood_n mode_n outward_a ceremony_n of_o divine_a worship_n which_o be_v before_o his_o come_n into_o the_o flesh_n be_v to_o be_v alter_v by_o his_o authority_n as_o king_n of_o the_o church_n so_o be_v time_n also_o the_o day_n on_o which_o those_o be_v chief_o and_o most_o slemn_o observe_v into_o another_o day_n wherein_o his_o own_o institution_n be_v to_o be_v chief_o and_o general_o practise_v by_o his_o church_n and_o for_o these_o and_o such_o like_a reason_n he_o do_v not_o only_o particular_o recommend_v and_o enjoin_v but_o do_v also_o speak_v and_o do_v as_o have_v be_v former_o hint_v and_o may_v be_v future_o evince_v such_o word_n and_o thing_n as_o have_v a_o doctrinal_a and_o practical_a tendency_n towards_o its_o expiration_n page_n 33._o he_o impute_v the_o observation_n of_o the_o first_o day_n but_o to_o a_o good_a intention_n which_o have_v be_v the_o cause_n of_o shall_v fancy_v that_o commenius_n when_o he_o exhort_v to_o a_o reformation_n of_o the_o government_n doctrine_n worship_n and_o practice_n of_o the_o church_n according_a to_o the_o word_n of_o
