be_v no_o doubt_n some_o profit_n in_o that_o by_o a_o spiritual_a blessing_n even_o upon_o that_o day_n above_o another_o not_o command_v by_o he_o all_o his_o ordinance_n be_v ever_o accompany_v continuance_n and_o frequency_n of_o time_n determine_v have_v and_o namely_o that_o the_o continuance_n of_o a_o whole_a day_n in_o the_o frequent_a revolution_n of_o a_o week_n of_o seven_o day_n have_v which_o we_o say_v be_v together_o in_o time_n determine_v gen._n 2.3_o with_o that_o seven_o day_n in_o order_n for_o the_o quando_fw-la or_o particular_a day_n for_o that_o world_n but_o nature_n of_o the_o respect_n of_o time_n towards_o religion_n as_o before_o towards_o study_n for_o learning_n or_o any_o other_o civil_a business_n that_o the_o quando_fw-la season_n or_o order_n of_o beginning_n viz._n this_o or_o that_o particular_a day_n first_o or_o last_o of_o seven_o or_o of_o any_o other_o number_n have_v no_o materiality_n or_o substantiality_n in_o it_o towards_o religion_n to_o make_v it_o be_v profitable_o determine_v rather_o than_o such_o another_o of_o such_o a_o number_n but_o only_o accidental_o and_o so_o in_o this_o consideration_n to_o be_v great_o inferior_a to_o the_o quamdiu_fw-la or_o continuance_n as_o also_o to_o the_o quoties_fw-la or_o frequency_n of_o revolution_n which_o be_v so_o main_o profitable_a as_o we_o show_v before_o 3._o whence_o it_o follow_v clear_o as_o be_v also_o say_v before_o in_o relation_n to_o learning_n that_o whereas_o a_o determination_n of_o the_o continuance_n and_o frequency_n of_o time_n for_o religion_n religion_n xxiii_o therefore_o there_o may_v be_v a_o alteration_n of_o it_o without_o hurt_n to_o religion_n whether_o of_o either_o of_o they_o single_o or_o both_o of_o they_o joint_o can_v be_v alter_v in_o any_o remarkable_a degree_n without_o a_o answerable_a alteration_n in_o the_o profit_n of_o it_o towards_o religion_n namely_o the_o profit_n must_v needs_o be_v great_a if_o it_o be_v alter_v from_o a_o less_o proportion_n to_o a_o great_a as_o from_o half_a a_o day_n to_o a_o whole_a day_n continuance_n and_o from_o the_o frequency_n of_o one_o day_n in_o seven_o to_o one_o in_o six_o or_o five_o and_o so_o the_o profit_n will_v be_v less_o if_o alter_v from_o a_o great_a proportion_n to_o a_o less_o as_o from_o a_o whole_a day_n continuance_n to_o 3_o or_o 4_o hour_n only_o of_o a_o day_n and_o from_o the_o frequency_n of_o one_o day_n in_o seven_o to_o one_o in_o eight_o or_o ten_o only_a and_o consequent_o a_o determination_n of_o these_o respect_n of_o time_n remain_v in_o the_o nature_n of_o it_o constant_o &_o perpetual_o profitable_a to_o religion_n it_o be_v quite_o otherwise_o with_o the_o season_n or_o order_n of_o time_n for_o religion_n for_o of_o that_o there_o may_v be_v a_o remarkable_a alteration_n as_o from_o the_o last_o day_n of_o seven_o to_o the_o first_o of_o seven_o from_o evening_n to_o morning_n begin_v morning_n it_o be_v ususual_o take_v for_o grant_v that_o the_o sabbath_n of_o old_a begin_v in_o the_o evening_n this_o we_o do_v not_o affirm_v nor_o yet_o altogether_o deny_v but_o shall_v consider_v it_o hereafter_o but_o now_o we_o speak_v of_o it_o by_o way_n of_o supposition_n that_o it_o use_v so_o begin_v or_o the_o like_a and_o yet_o no_o alteration_n at_o all_o unless_o in_o some_o accidental_a consideration_n forenote_v in_o the_o profit_n of_o it_o in_o as_o much_o as_o still_o god_n and_o the_o soul_n may_v have_v the_o same_o proportion_n of_o time_n both_o for_o continuance_n and_o as_o be_v before_o this_o be_v alter_v we_o say_v again_o there_o be_v no_o substantial_a convenience_n or_o inconvenience_n profit_n or_o disadvantage_n to_o religion_n in_o the_o perpetuate_n or_o change_v the_o season_n or_o order_n of_o beginning_n from_o one_o day_n of_o the_o week_n to_o another_o or_o from_o evening_n to_o morning_n hereafter_o morning_n whereas_o we_o say_v it_o make_v no_o substantial_a change_n in_o the_o profit_n to_o alter_v the_o beginning_n from_o evening_n to_o morning_n we_o yet_o conceive_v a_o accidental_a profit_n by_o it_o in_o that_o by_o the_o mean_n of_o the_o begin_n in_o the_o morning_n we_o be_v sure_a to_o have_v the_o continuance_n if_o for_o a_o whole_a day_n not_o to_o be_v end_v while_o we_o be_v awake_a the_o profit_n of_o which_o we_o shall_v argue_v hereafter_o but_o that_o if_o no_o accidental_a consideration_n recommend_v a_o change_n that_o season_n or_o order_n of_o beginning_n may_v be_v perpetuate_v under_o the_o new_a testament_n which_o be_v under_o the_o old_a without_o prejudice_n to_o religion_n and_o if_o any_o accidental_a consideration_n do_v recommend_v a_o change_n that_o season_n or_o order_n of_o beginning_n the_o day_n or_o time_n for_o beginning_n the_o day_n may_v be_v change_v and_o that_o fit_o so_o it_o be_v do_v by_o sufficient_a authority_n also_o in_o that_o change_n it_o be_v all_o that_o a_o day_n which_o when_o we_o speak_v of_o we_o mean_v for_o continuance_n a_o day_n together_o be_v of_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n which_o be_v more_o than_o we_o yet_o have_v say_v yet_o soon_o after_o like_o man_n that_o have_v tread_v upon_o a_o quagmire_n or_o a_o serpent_n they_o step_v back_o again_o and_o as_o have_v grant_v more_o than_o they_o can_v well_o afford_v we_o or_o then_o indeed_o will_v well_o stand_v with_o their_o cause_n they_o fall_v off_o again_o to_o mere_a general_n and_o uncertainty_n under_o the_o notion_n of_o a_o sufficient_a and_o convenient_a time_n and_o such_o like_a doubtful_a phrase_n which_o without_o some_o particularise_v come_v in_o effect_n to_o nothing_o more_o than_o a_o more_o than_o a_o mere_a indeterminate_a time_n as_o we_o have_v note_v in_o the_o former_a chapter_n and_o never_o so_o much_o as_o grant_v explicit_o and_o clear_o any_o distinct_a determination_n at_o all_o by_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n either_o for_o we_o have_v discourse_v of_o hitherto_o as_o namely_o that_o all_o man_n will_v confess_v that_o 1._o for_o the_o continuance_n single_a the_o law_n of_o nature_n do_v determine_v every_o man_n to_o somewhat_o more_o than_o a_o quarter_n of_o a_o hour_n then_o half_a a_o hour_n even_o to_o a_o whole_a hour_n at_o least_o as_o to_o a_o necessary_a proportion_n to_o be_v give_v to_o god_n at_o one_o time_n or_o other_o during_o a_o man_n life_n and_o that_o it_o be_v sin_n even_o against_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n if_o a_o man_n shall_v never_o in_o all_o his_o life_n give_v god_n a_o whole_a hour_n at_o once_o and_o 2._o for_o the_o frequency_n single_a that_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n do_v determine_v every_o man_n to_o somewhat_o more_o than_o twice_o in_o his_o life_n even_o more_o than_o twice_o in_o seven_o year_n more_o than_o twice_o in_o every_o year_n of_o his_o life_n every_o quarter_n of_o a_o year_n every_o month_n even_o once_o at_o least_o every_o day_n as_o a_o necessary_a proportion_n to_o be_v give_v to_o god_n in_o a_o revolution_n and_o that_o it_o be_v sin_n even_o against_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n to_o worship_n god_n seldome_o than_o so_o in_o some_o manner_n also_o 3._o put_v both_o these_o respect_n together_o and_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n do_v still_o determine_v every_o man_n to_o at_o least_o a_o hour_n together_o we_o say_v not_o every_o day_n but_o at_o least_o every_o month_n as_o a_o necessary_a proportion_n to_o be_v give_v to_o god_n and_o that_o less_o at_o once_o every_o month_n or_o seldome_a so_o much_o as_o a_o hour_n be_v sin_n even_o against_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n and_o this_o we_o be_v persuade_v even_o very_a corrupt_a nature_n will_v not_o find_v in_o their_o heart_n to_o deny_v nor_o can_v they_o upon_o the_o former_a principle_n of_o god_n be_v the_o lord_n of_o all_o our_o time_n and_o our_o happiness_n and_o further_a also_o then_o so_o we_o may_v perhaps_o go_v but_o we_o be_v not_o willing_a to_o particularize_v too_o far_o by_o way_n of_o guess_n because_o nothing_o certain_a can_v be_v conclude_v on_o uncertainty_n therefore_o we_o will_v rather_o make_v trial_n whether_o the_o law_n or_o light_n of_o nature_n will_v help_v we_o any_o

still_o nature_n can_v give_v such_o a_o day_n and_o therefore_o again_o we_o say_v it_o be_v true_a that_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n do_v determine_v it_o and_o as_o for_o the_o pertinencie_n of_o this_o discourse_n we_o shall_v show_v it_o by_o and_o by_o a_o second_o objection_n may_v be_v make_v namely_o answer_v xxvii_o another_o objection_n answer_v that_o what_o be_v necessary_a by_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n be_v always_o and_o certain_o so_o but_o so_o be_v not_o this_o because_o for_o any_o thing_n the_o light_n of_o nature_n can_v see_v or_o say_v god_n may_v have_v declare_v that_o he_o will_v not_o have_v a_o whole_a day_n at_o any_o time_n at_o once_o and_o then_o the_o argument_n will_v overthrow_v itself_o he_o be_v the_o sovereign_a lord_n of_o in_o and_o all_o our_o time_n but_o to_o this_o we_o answer_v two_o thing_n 1._o that_o we_o have_v in_o part_n already_o prevent_v this_o objection_n because_o before_o we_o propound_v this_o question_n of_o our_o judge_n of_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n determine_v a_o continuance_n of_o time_n conclusive_o for_o religion_n we_o propound_v it_o under_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n allowance_n of_o it_o even_o because_o all_o time_n be_v he_o and_o he_o have_v no_o need_n of_o any_o service_n of_o we_o therefore_o the_o argument_n be_v intend_v but_o so_o far_o forth_o as_o god_n have_v not_o refuse_v a_o whole_a day_n continuance_n at_o once_o to_o be_v tender_v to_o he_o in_o solemn_a worship_n 2._o we_o add_v that_o unless_o we_o have_v such_o a_o express_a refusal_n in_o scripture_n we_o can_v conceive_v up_o his_o other_o half_a day_n and_o so_o lose_v it_o altogether_o or_o be_v so_o long_o put_v off_o from_o day_n to_o day_n till_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o his_o affection_n get_v or_o quicken_v in_o the_o former_a half_a day_n be_v quench_v again_o and_o lose_v a_o careful_a tenant_n when_o his_o rent_n be_v due_a and_o he_o have_v it_o all_o ready_a will_v not_o bring_v half_a and_o leave_v the_o rest_n to_o another_o time_n lest_o he_o be_v rob_v in_o the_o mean_a while_n or_o be_v force_v to_o spend_v it_o and_o so_o want_v it_o when_o he_o shall_v pay_v it_o if_o a_o man_n be_v bind_v to_o give_v god_n the_o proportion_n of_o a_o whole_a day_n as_o this_o objection_n grant_v and_o that_o by_o unnecessary_a delay_n he_o shall_v die_v have_v tender_v but_o one_o half_a day_n when_o he_o may_v have_v give_v the_o whole_a he_o die_v in_o a_o sin_n therefore_o for_o certainty_n two_o half_a day_n be_v not_o so_o good_a as_o a_o whole_a day_n 4._o if_o after_o that_o one_o whole_a day_n a_o man_n can_v certain_o have_v freedom_n for_o another_o half_a day_n we_o add_v or_o even_o for_o another_o whole_a day_n the_o argument_n will_v again_o hold_v for_o that_o half_a day_n leave_v any_o out_o of_o all_o the_o time_n that_o any_o soul_n have_v in_o this_o life_n and_o if_o the_o inevitable_a necessity_n of_o nature_n for_o eat_v drink_v and_o sleep_v etc._n etc._n be_v plead_v yet_o we_o doubt_v not_o whether_o the_o soul_n will_v not_o or_o shall_v not_o grudge_v even_o at_o these_o as_o endanger_v to_o hinder_v that_o which_o be_v of_o more_o importance_n than_o meat_n or_o drink_v or_o sleep_v or_o even_o than_o the_o bodily_a life_n and_o subsistence_n itself_o not_o that_o we_o imagine_v or_o dream_n that_o god_n have_v not_o allow_v even_o by_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n and_o much_o more_o by_o scripture_n sufficient_a time_n for_o all_o these_o bodily_a necessity_n but_o yet_o we_o know_v that_o both_o god_n sometime_o command_v to_o fast_o and_o forbear_v all_o meat_n and_o drink_n for_o a_o space_n and_o so_o to_o watch_v even_o whole_a night_n for_o the_o good_a of_o soul_n our_o own_o special_o but_o also_o even_o of_o other_o as_o likewise_o that_o when_o a_o soul_n grow_v extraordinary_o solicitous_a of_o its_o own_o salvation_n and_o sometime_o even_o of_o other_o it_o can_v afford_v to_o eat_v or_o drink_v it_o can_v sleep_v ready_a sometime_o even_o to_o starve_v itself_o or_o kill_v itself_o with_o overwatch_v but_o that_o it_o be_v force_v up_o do_v otherwise_o even_o by_o god_n command_n urge_v upon_o they_o by_o friend_n and_o the_o fear_n of_o prejudice_v their_o very_a salvation_n if_o they_o shall_v be_v cause_n of_o their_o own_o death_n and_o moreover_o it_o be_v usual_a with_o many_o christian_n to_o think_v much_o and_o repine_v at_o all_o the_o time_n wherein_o they_o be_v not_o spiritual_o employ_v for_o their_o soul_n even_o though_o they_o can_v deny_v but_o god_n have_v not_o only_o allow_v but_o even_o command_v they_o to_o employ_v hour_n and_o day_n many_o and_o many_o upon_o worldly_a business_n which_o command_n and_o allowance_n of_o his_o be_v the_o only_a thing_n that_o satisfy_v they_o or_o else_o they_o can_v never_o so_o far_o forth_o as_o they_o think_v of_o their_o soul_n be_v willing_a to_o allow_v any_o time_n at_o all_o to_o any_o other_o thing_n and_o therefore_o there_o be_v no_o manner_n of_o help_n from_o hence_o for_o any_o share_v of_o time_n between_o the_o soul_n and_o worldly_a occasion_n the_o rather_o because_o a_o soul_n awaken_v with_o sense_n of_o its_o own_o good_a become_v apprehensive_a 1._o that_o there_o be_v yet_o manifold_a thing_n in_o religion_n which_o be_v great_o necessary_a for_o it_o to_o know_v what_o ever_o knowledge_n it_o have_v already_o attain_v to_o and_o these_o call_v for_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o time_n to_o learn_v they_o 2._o and_o how_o forgetful_a they_o be_v from_o time_n to_o time_n of_o the_o thing_n they_o have_v learn_v and_o that_o call_v also_o for_o much_o time_n to_o preserve_v they_o in_o memory_n and_o recover_v any_o they_o have_v lose_v 3._o withal_o the_o faintness_n of_o their_o godly_a affection_n 4._o and_o the_o strength_n of_o their_o corruption_n which_o require_v still_o much_o and_o often_o time_n to_o strengthen_v the_o one_o and_o combat_n and_o mortify_v the_o other_o 5._o and_o final_o their_o be_v assault_v daily_o and_o hourly_o with_o temptation_n and_o affliction_n and_o their_o peace_n and_o comfort_n further_o waste_v by_o sin_n and_o corruption_n which_o make_v they_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o time_n yet_o more_o to_o regain_v that_o peace_n and_o comfort_n when_o it_o be_v go_v or_o waste_v and_o to_o enjoy_v spiritual_a refresh_n in_o the_o bosom_n of_o god_n love_n all_o this_o together_o can_v but_o make_v a_o soul_n think_v no_o measure_n of_o time_n less_o than_o all_o necessary_a and_o sufficient_a for_o attendance_n upon_o he_o who_o it_o be_v bind_v to_o love_n with_o its_o whole_a self_n mind_n heart_n strength_n and_o so_o to_o work_v upon_o itself_o that_o it_o may_v love_v he_o and_o be_v sure_a of_o his_o love_n and_o when_o it_o have_v once_o attain_v to_o this_o love_n of_o he_o above_o all_o other_o thing_n and_o to_o a_o assurance_n of_o his_o love_n to_o it_o it_o can_v but_o still_o think_v all_o time_n be_v little_a enough_o and_o too_o little_a to_o serve_v he_o in_o thankfulness_n for_o his_o love_n and_o to_o enjoy_v his_o love_n and_o its_o own_o happiness_n in_o attendance_n upon_o he_o and_o converse_v with_o he_o it_o must_v then_o again_o be_v god_n will_v declare_v that_o man_n shall_v spend_v their_o time_n in_o this_o world_n otherwise_o then_o whole_o upon_o the_o immediate_a care_n of_o their_o soul_n in_o his_o immediate_a service_n that_o must_v discharge_v any_o proportion_n at_o all_o from_o be_v necessary_a to_o the_o soul_n good_a 71._o see_v sect._n 71._o and_o so_o his_o
