assumption_n and_o now_o he_o add_v the_o major_a proposition_n which_o be_v of_o a_o know_a verity_n for_o what_o man_n be_v he_o that_o will_v not_o acknowledge_v how_o fearful_a a_o thing_n it_o be_v to_o fall_v into_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o live_a god_n because_o the_o live_a god_n can_v punish_v far_o more_o fearful_o then_o mortal_a man_n can_v do_v why_o god_n be_v call_v live_v we_o all_o that_o which_o pertain_v to_o our_o spirit_n and_o make_v we_o to_o be_v spiritual_a for_o this_o we_o owe_v to_o no_o other_o person_n but_o to_o our_o heavenly_a father_n but_o he_o be_v call_v the_o father_n of_o spirit_n because_o he_o have_v beget_v we_o according_a to_o the_o spirit_n and_o he_o alone_o have_v beget_v all_o of_o we_o and_o live_v he_o show_v the_o fruit_n and_o end_n of_o our_o subjection_n the_o more_o to_o incite_v we_o thereto_o and_o this_o fruit_n be_v eternal_a life_n which_o to_o attain_v be_v true_o to_o live_v whence_o oftentimes_o it_o be_v eminent_o call_v by_o the_o sole_a name_n of_o life_n 10._o and_o they_o very_o for_o a_o few_o day_n chastened_a we_o after_o their_o own_o pleasure_n because_o he_o have_v say_v we_o shall_v live_v if_o we_o will_v be_v in_o subjection_n to_o the_o father_n of_o spirit_n tacit_o intimate_v that_o this_o effect_n will_v not_o follow_v upon_o our_o subjection_n to_o our_o carnal_a father_n therefore_o now_o he_o show_v what_o great_a difference_n there_o be_v between_o the_o end_n and_o scope_n whereat_o our_o carnal_a father_n aim_n as_o they_o be_v oppose_v to_o our_o spiritual_a father_n and_o in_o this_o respect_n be_v not_o subservient_fw-fr unto_o he_o and_o that_o end_n which_o god_n propose_v in_o the_o chastisement_n of_o his_o child_n whereupon_o it_o also_o follow_v that_o we_o shall_v far_o more_o willing_o submit_v ourselves_o to_o endure_v the_o chastisement_n of_o god_n then_o of_o they_o in_o regard_n they_o be_v intend_v for_o a_o far_o great_a good_a unto_o we_o than_o the_o chastisement_n of_o our_o carnal_a father_n for_o a_o few_o day_n the_o good_a or_o benefit_n of_o their_o chastisement_n be_v of_o use_n unto_o we_o but_o for_o a_o few_o day_n that_o we_o may_v pass_v over_o this_o life_n which_o be_v conclude_v within_o the_o compass_n of_o a_o short_a time_n the_o more_o convenient_o and_o honest_o for_o the_o author_n by_o these_o word_n intend_v not_o to_o say_v that_o the_o chastisement_n of_o our_o father_n last_v not_o long_o but_o pass_v away_o together_o with_o our_o childhood_n and_o youth_n for_o what_o do_v this_o make_v to_o the_o purpose_n must_v we_o therefore_o be_v rather_o the_o more_o in_o subjection_n unto_o god_n because_o his_o chastisement_n last_v a_o long_a time_n or_o through_o all_o our_o life_n beside_o the_o mind_n of_o the_o author_n be_v to_o inculcate_v into_o we_o rather_o the_o shortness_n of_o god_n chastisement_n than_o the_o length_n of_o it_o as_o we_o may_v perceive_v before_o chap._n 10._o ver_fw-la 37._o after_o their_o own_o pleasure_n they_o in_o their_o chastisement_n of_o we_o do_v not_o always_o seek_v our_o benefit_n but_o be_v many_o time_n indulgent_a to_o their_o own_o humour_n and_o passion_n or_o if_o in_o some_o measure_n they_o seek_v our_o benefit_n yet_o they_o do_v not_o always_o use_v a_o right_a judgement_n therein_o they_o do_v therein_o as_o it_o seem_v good_a unto_o they_o sometime_o after_o our_o desert_n and_o sometime_o after_o their_o own_o pleasure_n and_o oftentimes_o err_v through_o mis-affection_n or_o indiscretion_n but_o he_o for_o our_o profit_n but_o god_n be_v such_o a_o father_n that_o when_o he_o chasten_v his_o child_n he_o always_o direct_v his_o eye_n to_o our_o benefit_n and_o profit_n neither_o do_v ever_o miss_v of_o his_o intent_n that_o we_o may_v be_v partaker_n of_o his_o holiness_n here_o he_o specify_v in_o particular_a the_o profit_n we_o gain_v from_o god_n chastisement_n that_o thereby_o we_o be_v sanctify_v in_o so_o great_a a_o measure_n as_o to_o partake_v of_o his_o holiness_n for_o the_o holiness_n thereby_o wrought_v in_o we_o be_v in_o a_o manner_n divine_a resemble_v the_o holiness_n of_o god_n wherein_o be_v also_o contain_v by_o way_n of_o metonymy_a the_o fruit_n of_o this_o holiness_n which_o be_v everlasting_a happiness_n 11._o now_o no_o chasten_n for_o the_o present_n he_n seem_v here_o to_o take_v away_o a_o objection_n some_o man_n may_v say_v that_o all_o chastisement_n of_o it_o own_o nature_n be_v unpleasing_a and_o bitter_a and_o therefore_o it_o be_v a_o hard_a matter_n to_o endure_v it_o with_o patience_n the_o author_n confess_v this_o to_o be_v true_a in_o respect_n of_o some_o time_n that_o chastisement_n for_o the_o time_n present_a all_o the_o while_n the_o affliction_n of_o it_o last_v seem_v not_o so_o good_a as_o indeed_o it_o be_v seem_v to_o be_v joyous_a it_o do_v not_o appear_v or_o seem_v unto_o we_o to_o tend_v unto_o joy_n or_o the_o present_a sourness_n and_o bitterness_n of_o chastisement_n while_o the_o smart_n of_o it_o be_v upon_o we_o do_v not_o seem_v to_o we_o of_o that_o quality_n that_o it_o shall_v determine_v and_o end_v in_o great_a joy_n and_o pleasure_n but_o grievous_a it_o seem_v to_o bring_v nothing_o else_o unto_o we_o but_o smart_n and_o grief_n for_o all_o chastisement_n bring_v grief_n or_o pain_n else_o it_o shall_v not_o be_v chastisement_n for_o therefore_o we_o be_v chastise_v that_o the_o pain_n of_o the_o punishment_n may_v repel_v the_o lust_n of_o sin_n nevertheless_o afterward_o it_o yield_v the_o peaceable_a fruit_n of_o righteousness_n the_o fruit_n of_o righteousness_n signify_v the_o fruit_n that_o be_v righteousness_n by_o a_o genetive_a of_o the_o difference_n and_o the_o word_n righteousness_n do_v in_o this_o place_n signify_v both_o the_o habit_n of_o do_v righteous_o and_o by_o way_n of_o metonymy_n the_o effect_n or_o reward_n follow_v it_o which_o be_v justification_n or_o the_o have_v of_o a_o right_a to_o life_n eternal_a as_o in_o the_o former_a verse_n holiness_n signify_v both_o holiness_n of_o manner_n and_o the_o happiness_n follow_v upon_o it_o and_o this_o fruit_n be_v call_v peaceable_a not_o only_o in_o respect_n of_o righteousness_n proper_o take_v which_o bring_v we_o peace_n that_o be_v happiness_n but_o in_o respect_n of_o our_o justification_n to_o life_n eternal_a because_o that_o consist_v in_o true_a peace_n which_o be_v our_o final_a happiness_n and_o bring_v it_o with_o it_o in_o a_o sense_n not_o unlike_a paul_n say_v that_o bless_a hope_n tit._n 2.13_o for_o hope_n be_v there_o take_v material_o for_o the_o thing_n hope_v which_o be_v eternal_a life_n which_o be_v call_v bless_v because_o it_o be_v blessedness_n itself_o and_o make_v they_o bless_v who_o attain_v it_o unto_o they_o which_o be_v exercise_v thereby_o he_o specify_v here_o the_o person_n to_o who_o this_o peaceable_a fruit_n accrue_v and_o
