certain_a person_n to_o take_v account_n of_o the_o planter_n according_a to_o the_o tenor_n of_o this_o act._n cxxx_o payment_n of_o fort-duty_n in_o accomack_n etc._n etc._n whereas_o there_o be_v and_o claim_v the_o benefit_n of_o this_o law_n to_o import_v the_o same_o into_o this_o colony_n shall_v and_o do_v immediate_o and_o before_o he_o shall_v unload_v the_o same_o either_o out_o of_o boat_n sloop_n or_o other_o vessel_n bring_v the_o same_o into_o this_o country_n repair_v to_o the_o next_o or_o near_a collector_n of_o the_o impost_n of_o two_o shilling_n per_fw-la hogshead_n horse_n shall_v be_v raise_v in_o each_o county_n viz._n of_o henrico_n new-kent_n reppahanuack_n and_o stafford_n of_o such_o housekeeper_n belong_v to_o the_o say_a county_n as_o shall_v voluntary_o offer_v themselves_o for_o this_o service_n and_o for_o want_v of_o such_o or_o so_o many_o housekeeper_n that_o then_o the_o say_a number_n shall_v be_v make_v up_o of_o such_o freeman_n as_o shall_v and_o commissionate_a some_o fit_a and_o able_a person_n in_o each_o of_o the_o aforesaid_a county_n who_o be_v a_o housekeeper_n therein_o to_o command_v lead_v train_z conduct_v and_o exercise_v the_o say_v twenty_o soldier_n to_o be_v raise_v in_o the_o say_a county_n of_o which_o he_o shall_v be_v appoint_v and_o commissionated_a by_o his_o excellency_n the_o governor_n general_n the_o lieutenant_n or_o deputy_n governor_n as_o be_v aforesaid_a and_o it_o be_v further_o enact_v that_o the_o chief_a officer_n of_o the_o militia_n in_o each_o of_o the_o say_v respective_a county_n shall_v make_v choice_n of_o the_o most_o able_a and_o fit_a person_n out_o of_o such_o twenty_o man_n as_o to_o they_o shall_v seem_v most_o fit_a and_o convenient_a to_o be_v corporal_n of_o the_o say_a troop_n of_o that_o county_n who_o in_o the_o absence_n of_o the_o captain_n of_o the_o troop_n occasion_v by_o sickness_n or_o otherwise_o be_v to_o lead_v train_n command_n and_o exercise_n the_o say_a troop_n or_o company_n of_o twenty_o man_n and_o be_v it_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n aforesaid_a that_o the_o pay_n of_o each_o officer_n and_o soldier_n shall_v be_v as_o follow_v to_o the_o captain_n of_o each_o troop_n find_v himself_o horse_n arm_n ammunition_n and_o provision_n eight_o thousand_o pound_n of_o tobacco_n with_o cask_n out_o of_o the_o public_a levy_n for_o one_o whole_a year_n and_o so_o after_o that_o rate_n for_o a_o short_a or_o long_a time_n annum_fw-la the_o captain_n of_o each_o such_o troop_n consist_v of_o 20_o man_n shall_v have_v 8000_o l._n of_o tobacco_n and_o cask_n per_fw-la annum_fw-la to_o the_o corporal_n of_o each_o troop_n three_o thousand_o pound_n of_o tobacco_n with_o cask_n as_o aforesaid_a for_o one_o whole_a year_n and_o so_o after_o that_o rate_n for_o a_o long_o or_o short_a time_n to_o each_o soldier_n find_v himself_o horse_n arm_n furniture_n provision_n ammunition_n and_o other_o necessary_n as_o aforesaid_a two_o thousand_o pound_n of_o tobacco_n in_o cask_n as_o aforesaid_a and_o so_o after_o that_o rate_n pay_v corporal_n and_o private_a soldier_n pay_v for_o a_o long_o or_o short_a time_n and_o be_v it_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n aforesaid_a that_o each_o captain_n or_o in_o his_o absence_n his_o corporal_n shall_v once_o every_o month_n muster_n train_n exercise_n instruct_v and_o discipline_n the_o troop_n or_o soldier_n under_o his_o command_n month._n the_o say_v troop_n shall_v be_v train_v and_o exercise_v once_o a_o month._n on_o pain_n to_o forfeit_v five_o hundred_o pound_n of_o tobacco_n in_o cask_n for_o every_o time_n he_o shall_v neglect_v such_o muster_n or_o exercise_n unless_o occasion_v by_o sickness_n and_o that_o every_o captain_n or_o in_o his_o absence_n occasion_v by_o sickness_n his_o corporal_n shall_v at_o the_o lest_o once_o in_o every_o fourteen_o day_n range_v and_o scout_v serve_v and_o shall_v once_o in_o every_o 14._o day_n range_v &_o scout_n about_o the_o frontier_n of_o the_o county_n for_o which_o they_o serve_v about_o the_o frontier_n of_o the_o county_n for_o which_o they_o serve_v and_o in_o such_o other_o place_n as_o shall_v be_v most_o likely_a for_o the_o discovery_n of_o the_o enemy_n under_o pain_n of_o forfeit_v for_o
every_o time_n he_o shall_v neglect_v such_o range_v and_o scouting_n one_o thousand_o pound_n of_o tobacco_n and_o cask_n and_o that_o every_o soldier_n that_o shall_v neglect_v or_o omit_v to_o appear_v at_o such_o muster_n shall_v forfeit_v one_o hundred_o pound_n of_o tobacco_n in_o cask_n and_o for_o not_o scouting_n and_o range_v as_o aforesaid_a two_o hundred_o pound_n of_o tobacco_n and_o cask_n for_o every_o such_o default_n all_o which_o forfeiture_n to_o be_v recover_v by_o action_n of_o debt_n by_o he_o or_o they_o that_o will_v inform_v the_o one_o half_a to_o the_o informer_n and_o the_o other_o half_a to_o the_o use_n of_o the_o county_n and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v by_o the_o auhtority_n aforesaid_a that_o upon_o notice_n advice_n or_o discovery_n of_o the_o approach_n or_o attempt_v of_o any_o enemy_n the_o say_a captain_n or_o corporal_n of_o the_o troop_n be_v hereby_o require_v to_o give_v speedy_a advice_n thereof_o to_o some_o one_o or_o more_o of_o the_o chief_a officer_n of_o the_o militia_n militia_n the_o captain_n of_o the_o say_a troop_n upon_o approach_n of_o any_o enemy_n shall_v give_v notice_n thereof_o to_o the_o officer_n of_o the_o militia_n and_o he_o or_o they_o to_o his_o excellency_n the_o governor_n the_o right_a honourable_a the_o deputy_n governor_n or_o some_o one_o of_o the_o honourable_a council_n and_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n to_o observe_v and_o attend_v the_o motion_n of_o the_o enemy_n only_o unless_o he_o shall_v obstinate_o persist_v to_o commit_v act_n of_o hostility_n and_o in_o such_o case_n of_o necessity_n to_o engage_v or_o destroy_v they_o if_o he_o see_v cause_n and_o in_o all_o thing_n to_o attend_v and_o execute_v such_o order_n and_o command_n as_o he_o shall_v receive_v from_o the_o governor_n and_o council_n and_o it_o be_v further_o enact_v that_o for_o their_o better_a management_n and_o order_v their_o horse_n and_o make_v they_o fit_a for_o service_n no_o soldier_n presume_v to_o use_v or_o bring_v to_o service_n any_o other_o horse_n then_o that_o only_o which_o shall_v be_v first_o mustered_n and_o approve_v of_o of_o which_o each_o captain_n be_v to_o take_v such_o particular_a notice_n as_o that_o he_o may_v know_v the_o horse_n again_o unless_o in_o case_n such_o horse_n shall_v be_v by_o some_o accident_n make_v unfit_a for_o service_n in_o which_o penalty_n and_o forfeiture_n aforesaid_a one_o half_a of_o which_o forfeiture_n to_o the_o king_n majesty_n his_o heir_n and_o successor_n and_o the_o other_o half_a to_o the_o informer_n to_o be_v recover_v by_o action_n of_o debt_n in_o any_o of_o his_o majesty_n court_n in_o this_o his_o majesty_n country_n which_o say_v penalty_n be_v to_o be_v add_v and_o impose_v over_o and_o beside_o inhabitant_n of_o james-city-county_n free_v from_o arrest_n during_o the_o general_n assembly_n be_v repeal_v and_o make_v void_a and_o that_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o the_o say_a county_n have_v equal_a benefit_n of_o the_o say_v recite_v act_n with_o the_o other_o inhabitant_n of_o this_o country_n provide_v always_o nevertheless_o that_o this_o act_n shall_v not_o extend_v to_o the_o
