that_o that_o only_o pacifi_v the_o conscience_n and_o satisfy_v the_o soul_n when_o david_n have_v sin_v against_o the_o lord_n in_o his_o two_o great_a sin_n and_o thereby_o provoke_v god_n wrath_n against_o he_o and_o wound_v his_o own_o conscience_n if_o the_o prophet_n have_v tell_v he_o he_o have_v make_v he_o king_n of_o 10_o kingdomed_a more_o 11_o he_o have_v not_o so_o rejoice_v his_o heart_n as_o when_o he_o tell_v he_o after_o his_o repentance_n thy_o sin_n be_v forgive_v thou_o thou_o shall_v not_o die_v so_o when_o this_o prophet_n be_v extreme_o affright_v at_o god_n presence_n because_o of_o some_o sin_n and_o negligence_n in_o his_o call_n it_o have_v be_v no_o comfort_n to_o his_o poor_a soul_n to_o have_v be_v tell_v thou_o shall_v have_v a_o more_o eloquent_a tongue_n and_o a_o more_o powerful_a speech_n thou_o shall_v have_v better_a access_n to_o the_o court_n and_o audience_n before_o the_o king_n all_o these_o &_o all_o such_o like_a will_v have_v be_v no_o better_a than_o guild_a poison_n unto_o he_o be_v in_o this_o case_n but_o the_o happy_a answer_n that_o refresh_v his_o weary_a soul_n more_o than_o all_o the_o world_n be_v this_o loe_o thy_o iniquity_n be_v forgive_v and_o thy_o sin_n purge_v all_o faithful_a minister_n must_v here_o learn_v the_o true_a way_n of_o comfort_v trouble_v and_o distress_a conscience_n namely_o first_o to_o draw_v he_o unto_o a_o sight_n of_o some_o particular_a sin_n then_o to_o summon_v he_o into_o god_n presence_n and_o there_o to_o arraign_v he_o for_o those_o sin_n until_o the_o view_n of_o the_o foulness_n of_o his_o sin_n and_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n justice_n have_v sufficient_o humble_v he_o and_o then_o to_o labour_v to_o persuade_v his_o conscience_n upon_o good_a ground_n of_o the_o pardon_n of_o those_o sin_n by_o christ_n jesus_n this_o be_v the_o way_n that_o god_n use_v and_o devise_v this_o be_v the_o sure_a way_n that_o can_v fail_v some_o think_v that_o all_o trouble_n of_o mind_n be_v nothing_o but_o melancholy_a and_o therefore_o think_v nothing_o needs_o but_o physic_n and_o outward_a comfort_n but_o he_o that_o consider_v in_o what_o case_n the_o prophet_n here_o be_v or_o david_n when_o he_o make_v the_o 6._o the_o 32._o or_o the_o 51._o psalm_n psalm_n will_v be_v of_o another_o mind_n and_o will_v find_v that_o nothing_o can_v proper_o trouble_v the_o mind_n but_o sin_n therefore_o as_o the_o wise_a physician_n in_o his_o cure_n first_o search_v out_o the_o cause_n and_o then_o endeavour_n to_o to_o take_v it_o away_o so_o the_o good_a physician_n of_o the_o soul_n must_v first_o of_o all_o search_n into_o the_o cause_n of_o his_o sickness_n that_o be_v his_o sin_n and_o must_v take_v they_o away_o which_o if_o they_o do_v not_o than_o all_o their_o labour_n be_v lose_v for_o all_o the_o company_n music_n recreation_n wit_n diet_n nay_o all_o worldly_a comfort_n &_o delight_n if_o it_o be_v the_o advancement_n to_o a_o kingdom_n can_v so_o much_o comfort_v the_o distress_a soul_n of_o a_o sinner_n as_o this_o voice_n of_o a_o minister_n speak_v from_o god_n upon_o good_a ground_n thy_o sin_n be_v forgive_v thou_o now_o to_o lay_v down_o what_o be_v thoâ—e_o true_a and_o good_a ground_n whereupon_o a_o minister_n may_v safe_o and_o comfortable_o pronounce_v pardon_n of_o sin_n to_o a_o sinner_n belong_v proper_o to_o another_o place_n in_o the_o next_o place_n let_v we_o here_o observe_v how_o the_o lord_n afore_o he_o renew_v the_o prophet_n commission_n or_o send_v he_o to_o preach_v to_o the_o people_n first_o humble_v he_o for_o his_o sin_n and_o then_o upon_o his_o repentance_n give_v he_o pardon_v teach_v we_o that_o no_o minister_n be_v well_o qualify_v to_o the_o holy_a duty_n of_o the_o ministry_n unless_o he_o have_v true_o repent_v of_o his_o sin_n and_o have_v obtain_v pardon_n and_o mercy_n in_o the_o messiah_n minister_n labour_n for_o qualification_n but_o the_o true_a minister_n of_o god_n will_v labour_v for_o this_o qualification_n above_o all_o other_o for_o doubtless_o he_o shall_v pronounce_v most_o powerful_o the_o pardon_n of_o sin_n to_o other_o to_o who_o conscience_n god_n have_v pronounce_v pardon_n of_o his_o own_o in_o the_o last_o place_n let_v we_o observe_v how_o the_o preacher_n be_v to_o be_v comfort_v before_o he_o go_v this_o new_a embassage_n the_o lord_n be_v so_o careful_a for_o he_o that_o rather_o than_o he_o be_v not_o comfort_v if_o there_o be_v no_o man_n to_o do_v it_o a_o angel_n shall_v be_v send_v to_o be_v his_o comforter_n &_o if_o there_o be_v not_o another_o prophet_n to_o do_v it_o a_o angel_n shall_v pronounce_v unto_o he_o the_o pardon_n of_o his_o sin_n let_v this_o be_v a_o encouragement_n for_o all_o pastor_n and_o minister_n of_o god_n church_n to_o labour_v painful_o and_o faithful_o in_o their_o place_n for_o the_o goodness_n of_o the_o lord_n will_v never_o fail_v they_o nor_o shall_v they_o want_v comfort_n when_o ever_o they_o stand_v in_o need_n thereof_o yea_o rather_o shall_v angel_n from_o heaven_n be_v their_o help_n and_o comforter_n then_o faithful_a minister_n shall_v be_v leave_v destitute_a hitherto_o of_o the_o second_o general_a point_n namely_o of_o the_o prophet_n consolation_n commission_n the_o three_o and_o last_o general_a point_n be_v the_o renovation_n of_o the_o prophet_n commission_n in_o the_o eight_o and_o part_n of_o the_o nine_o verse_n and_o it_o contain_v 3._o part_n 1._o a_o question_n or_o inquiry_n make_v by_o god_n when_o shall_v i_o send_v and_o who_o shall_v go_v for_o we_o 2_o the_o answer_n of_o the_o prophet_n here_o be_o i_o send_v i_o 3_o the_o commission_n renew_v unto_o he_o the_o lord_n say_v go_v and_o speak_v unto_o this_o people_n question_n the_o first_o part_n be_v a_o question_n make_v by_o god_n by_o way_n of_o proclamation_n wherein_o he_o inquire_v who_o shall_v go_v preach_v unto_o this_o people_n also_o i_o hear_v the_o voice_n of_o the_o lord_n say_v who_o shall_v i_o send_v and_o who_o shall_v go_v for_o we_o in_o which_o proclamation_n and_o inquiry_n of_o the_o lord_n we_o be_v not_o to_o imagine_v that_o the_o lord_n be_v either_o unprovided_a of_o such_o as_o shall_v execute_v his_o will_n or_o know_v not_o who_o be_v able_a or_o who_o be_v willing_a to_o go_v preach_v his_o woâ—d_n for_o as_o the_o apostle_n say_v in_o the_o matter_n of_o election_n the_o lord_n know_v who_o be_v he_o 2.19_o so_o much_o more_o in_o particular_a vocation_n the_o lord_n know_v who_o be_v his_o and_o need_v not_o to_o ask_v who_o shall_v i_o send_v or_o who_o shall_v go_v but_o than_o it_o may_v be_v demand_v why_o the_o lord_n say_v so_o i_o answer_v not_o for_o his_o own_o sake_n but_o for_o we_o who_o hereby_o he_o will_v instruct_v in_o diverse_a point_n of_o holy_a doctrine_n first_o hereby_o he_o will_v give_v we_o to_o understand_v how_o hard_o a_o thing_n it_o be_v to_o find_v a_o able_a and_o godly_a minister_n for_o if_o there_o be_v not_o a_o great_a scarcity_n of_o such_o man_n the_o lord_n need_v not_o ask_v this_o question_n but_o some_o will_v object_v against_o this_o that_o there_o be_v in_o many_o christian_a church_n so_o many_o minister_n as_o they_o can_v all_o be_v maintain_v but_o some_o go_v up_o and_o down_o undisposed_a and_o unprovided_a for_o i_o answer_v this_o be_v too_o true_a in_o all_o age_n there_o be_v wander_v levits_n in_o the_o old_a testament_n which_o go_v up_o and_o down_o and_o offer_v their_o service_n and_o serve_v for_o 10._o shekel_n of_o silver_n and_o a_o suit_n of_o apparel_n and_o meat_n and_o drink_v 17.8.6_o but_o this_o calamity_n be_v upon_o the_o church_n of_o the_o jew_n never_o but_o then_o when_o there_o be_v no_o king_n in_o israel_n and_o every_o one_o do_v that_o which_o be_v good_a in_o his_o own_o eye_n if_o therefore_o there_o be_v any_o in_o our_o church_n &_o in_o christian_a nation_n which_o go_v up_o and_o down_o and_o offer_v their_o service_n at_o such_o rate_n it_o be_v much_o more_o miserable_a 17.6_o see_v now_o there_o be_v king_n in_o israel_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v no_o reason_n that_o every_o man_n rob_v the_o church_n as_o it_o shall_v please_v his_o covetous_a mind_n but_o cease_v to_o inquire_v whether_o thiâ—_n be_v so_o or_o no_o and_o if_o it_o be_v so_o leave_v the_o reformation_n thereof_o to_o those_o church_n and_o state_n who_o it_o may_v concern_v i_o answer_v for_o the_o matter_n in_o hand_n that_o this_o may_v be_v so_o and_o yet_o the_o lord_n may_v complain_v as_o
they_o quite_o out_o of_o themselves_o find_v nothing_o in_o themselves_o but_o cause_n of_o fear_n and_o astonishment_n then_o power_v he_o the_o oil_n of_o grace_n and_o of_o sweet_a comfort_n into_o their_o heart_n and_o refresh_v their_o weary_a soul_n with_o the_o dew_n of_o his_o mercy_n this_o point_n need_v no_o further_a proof_n for_o look_v into_o the_o scripture_n and_o we_o shall_v find_v god_n never_o call_v any_o man_n to_o the_o state_n of_o grace_n or_o to_o any_o notable_a work_n or_o function_n in_o his_o church_n but_o he_o first_o humble_v they_o and_o then_o bring_v they_o out_o of_o all_o conceit_n with_o themselves_o &_o then_o wrought_v in_o they_o and_o by_o they_o his_o wonderful_a work_n the_o use_n of_o this_o doctrine_n be_v first_o of_o all_o to_o teach_v all_o man_n 1_o to_o esteem_v aright_o of_o the_o affliction_n that_o god_n lay_v upon_o they_o in_o this_o world_n common_o man_n take_v they_o impatient_o &_o our_o nature_n grudge_v hagainst_a they_o but_o let_v a_o christian_a man_n consider_v with_o himself_o how_o god_n have_v always_o deal_v with_o his_o child_n and_o he_o have_v cause_n not_o to_o think_v so_o for_o do_v god_n lay_v some_o great_a affliction_n on_o thou_o it_o may_v be_v he_o have_v some_o mighty_a work_n of_o his_o grace_n to_o work_v in_o thou_o or_o some_o great_a work_n of_o mercy_n to_o be_v wrought_v by_o thou_o in_o his_o church_n and_o hereby_o prepare_v thou_o for_o the_o same_o say_v therefore_o with_o the_o holy_a prophet_n 39.9_o i_o hold_v my_o tongue_n â—_o lord_n and_o speak_v nothing_o because_o it_o be_v thy_o do_v and_o what_o god_n may_v intend_v in_o his_o so_o do_v to_o thou_o thou_o can_v not_o tell_v conscience_n and_o therefore_o in_o silence_n and_o patience_n possess_v thy_o soul_n again_o here_o be_v a_o comfort_n to_o all_o such_o as_o be_v distress_v in_o mind_n in_o sense_n of_o their_o sin_n and_o sight_n of_o god_n wrath_n their_o state_n be_v not_o miserable_a much_o less_o desperate_a for_o they_o be_v in_o the_o high_a way_n to_o grace_n and_o favour_n god_n justify_v not_o but_o he_o that_o repent_v god_n exalt_v not_o but_o he_o that_o be_v humble_v god_n comfort_v not_o but_o he_o that_o be_v distress_v god_n have_v mercy_n on_o none_o but_o such_o as_o both_o know_v and_o feel_v they_o want_v it_o and_o know_v also_o that_o they_o know_v not_o where_o to_o have_v it_o but_o at_o his_o hand_n happy_a therefore_o be_v that_o soul_n that_o feel_v the_o weight_n and_o burden_n of_o sin_n for_o to_o he_o will_v christ_n bring_v most_o ease_n and_o comfort_n god_n misnister_n therefore_o be_v hereby_o to_o comfort_v distress_a conscience_n to_o assure_v they_o that_o if_o with_o this_o prophet_n they_o be_v so_o deep_o touch_v with_o sight_n of_o their_o sin_n and_o god_n justice_n as_o that_o they_o cry_v woe_n be_v i_o i_o be_o undo_v then_o even_o then_o be_v they_o most_o capable_a of_o comfort_n and_o best_a prepare_v to_o receive_v it_o as_o here_o it_o fall_v out_o to_o the_o holy_a prophet_n three_o here_o be_v the_o way_n teach_v we_o how_o to_o attain_v to_o any_o excellent_a grace_n of_o god_n 3._o either_o for_o our_o own_o salvation_n or_o the_o good_a of_o the_o church_n namely_o to_o labour_v for_o a_o sensible_a feel_n of_o the_o want_n of_o they_o in_o ourselves_o for_o god_n use_v to_o bestow_v no_o gift_n on_o any_o man_n but_o such_o as_o do_v in_o humility_n &_o lowliness_n confess_v to_o god_n &_o acknowledge_v in_o themselves_o the_o want_n of_o they_o so_o the_o bless_a virgin_n sing_v â—_o god_n fall_v the_o hungry_a with_o good_a thing_n but_o the_o rich_a he_o send_v empty_a away_o and_o so_o the_o psalmist_n god_n satisfy_v the_o hungry_a soul_n and_o fill_v the_o empty_a soul_n with_o goodness_n so_o than_o if_o thou_o be_v rich_a in_o thy_o conceit_n god_n have_v not_o for_o thou_o but_o if_o thou_o be_v hungry_a he_o iâ—_n ready_a to_o fiâ—â—_n thou_o with_o good_a thing_n and_o do_v thou_o acknowledge_v thy_o soul_n empty_a then_o behold_v treasure_n of_o goodness_n to_o feed_v and_o fill_v thou_o and_o be_v thou_o cast_v down_o with_o the_o prophet_n and_o be_v thy_o soul_n empty_a of_o hope_n and_o fraught_v with_o fear_n then_o behold_v even_o then_o god_n and_o his_o angel_n ready_a to_o raise_v thou_o up_o &_o to_o fill_v thou_o with_o consolation_n t_o thus_o much_o for_o the_o time_n of_o his_o consolation_n the_o minister_n by_o who_o be_v one_o of_o the_o seraphim_n the_o 2._o circumstance_n of_o his_o consolation_n be_v the_o minister_n by_o who_o it_o be_v do_v a_o angel_n one_o of_o the_o seraphim_n minister_n that_o be_v a_o angel_n of_o that_o order_n so_o call_v out_o of_o which_o we_o learn_v first_o that_o there_o be_v diverse_a degree_n &_o several_a order_n of_o angel_n though_o we_o know_v not_o the_o true_a distinction_n thereof_o nor_o think_v it_o lawful_a to_o imagine_v they_o to_o be_v 9_o nor_o to_o set_v they_o down_o particular_o as_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n do_v who_o make_v many_o of_o their_o own_o device_n which_o they_o call_v tradition_n of_o equal_a authority_n with_o the_o both_o in_o heaven_n and_o in_o earth_n three_o that_o they_o be_v also_o by_o the_o merciful_a appointment_n of_o god_n 1_o the_o guard_n of_o god_n child_n and_o minister_a spirit_n send_v out_o as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o commission_n for_o the_o good_a of_o the_o elect_a all_o these_o point_n because_o they_o be_v plain_a in_o the_o scripture_n and_o do_v less_o concern_v our_o general_a scope_n which_o be_v concern_v the_o ministry_n i_o pass_v they_o over_o four_o here_o it_o be_v apparent_a that_o as_o the_o angel_n be_v send_v out_o for_o the_o help_n and_o service_n of_o the_o elect_a so_o special_o of_o god_n minister_n as_o be_v plain_a in_o this_o place_n where_o the_o prophet_n be_v affright_v a_o holy_a angel_n be_v ready_a to_o give_v he_o comfort_v and_o so_o over_o the_o whole_a course_n of_o the_o prophet_n and_o at_o this_o day_n their_o protection_n and_o comfortable_a assistance_n be_v no_o less_o present_a to_o the_o godly_a minister_n of_o the_o new_a testament_n though_o not_o in_o such_o sensible_a sign_n and_o such_o visible_a manner_n as_o in_o the_o old_a for_o if_o they_o be_v minister_a spirit_n send_v out_o for_o the_o good_a of_o they_o which_o shall_v be_v save_v how_o much_o more_o for_o their_o good_a which_o shall_v both_o be_v save_v themselves_o and_o save_v other_o also_o a_o doctrine_n of_o great_a comfort_n and_o much_o good_a use_n to_o all_o minister_n who_o first_o of_o all_o may_v here_o learn_v contentment_n in_o their_o call_n for_o howsoever_o no_o calling_n have_v more_o cross_n so_o none_o again_o have_v more_o comfort_n and_o howsoever_o none_o be_v more_o disgrace_v by_o evil_a man_n yet_o none_o be_v more_o honour_a by_o the_o holy_a angel_n and_o howsoever_o in_o this_o world_n they_o above_o any_o call_n be_v servant_n to_o all_o man_n yet_o none_o have_v the_o service_n &_o attendance_n of_o angel_n so_o much_o as_o they_o for_o though_o we_o have_v they_o not_o to_o help_v we_o to_o do_v the_o outward_a action_n of_o our_o ministry_n with_o we_o or_o for_o we_o as_o some_o popish_a doctor_n teach_v that_o in_o their_o mass_n amen_o be_v not_o say_v to_o one_o collect_v because_o the_o angel_n say_v amen_n to_o it_o yet_o doubtless_o they_o be_v present_a always_o as_o at_o all_o holy_a exercise_n and_o lawful_a action_n so_o especial_o at_o the_o public_a service_n of_o god_n perform_v by_o the_o minister_n and_o beside_o that_o they_o be_v witness_n thereto_o and_o of_o the_o pain_n and_o diligence_n and_o faithfulness_n of_o a_o good_a minister_n they_o also_o do_v minister_n unto_o they_o oftentimes_o bodily_a strength_n and_o assistance_n &_o many_o comfort_n in_o their_o troublesome_a travel_n which_o they_o know_v not_o how_o by_o any_o natural_a mane_n they_o come_v unto_o they_o and_o as_o this_o doctrine_n do_v thus_o yield_v they_o contentment_n against_o the_o contempt_n so_o also_o courage_n against_o the_o danger_n of_o this_o call_n for_o what_o though_o thou_o have_v mighty_a man_n of_o this_o world_n against_o thou_o when_o thou_o have_v angel_n for_o thou_o &_o what_o though_o thou_o fight_v against_o principality_n and_o power_n when_o thou_o have_v cherubin_n and_o seraphim_n on_o thy_o side_n godly_a minister_n have_v many_o enemy_n but_o if_o by_o the_o eye_n of_o faith_n they_o can_v see_v as_o well_o who_o be_v with_o they_o as_o with_o the_o eye_n of_o reason_n who_o
who_o send_v i_o and_o for_o who_o i_o come_v will_v bear_v i_o out_o and_o thus_o much_o of_o the_o inquiry_n which_o god_n make_v and_o the_o manner_n of_o it_o now_o let_v we_o see_v the_o answer_n which_o the_o prophet_n make_v in_o these_o word_n answer_n then_o i_o say_v here_o be_o i_o send_v i_o the_o prophet_n after_o he_o be_v comfort_v by_o god_n and_o have_v his_o sin_n forgive_v then_o answer_v here_o be_o i_o send_v i_o first_o mark_v here_o what_o a_o great_a change_n be_v wrought_v on_o the_o sudden_a he_o who_o a_o little_a afore_o fear_v and_o shrink_v at_o the_o least_o appearance_n of_o god_n glory_n now_o stand_v forth_o bold_o as_o soon_o as_o he_o be_v call_v and_o answer_v here_o be_o i_o send_v i_o so_o great_a a_o matter_n be_v it_o for_o a_o minister_n to_o have_v his_o sin_n forgive_v and_o to_o feel_v the_o favour_n of_o god_n to_o his_o soul_n and_o conscience_n here_o therefore_o we_o have_v a_o answer_n to_o two_o great_a question_n often_o move_v in_o the_o world_n first_o many_o will_v have_v quietness_n of_o mind_n and_o peace_n of_o conscience_n and_o can_v attain_v unto_o it_o if_o they_o ask_v how_o they_o may_v to_o they_o i_o answer_v here_o be_v the_o way_n seek_v it_o not_o in_o worldly_a wealth_n carnal_a pleasure_n nor_o humane_a learning_n in_o company_n nor_o recreation_n but_o seek_v it_o in_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n and_o pardon_v of_o thy_o sin_n and_o thou_o shall_v not_o miss_v of_o it_o thus_o shall_v thou_o have_v comfort_n in_o thy_o own_o conscience_n courage_n before_o man_n and_o boldness_n towards_o god_n second_o many_o student_n in_o divinity_n will_v glad_o be_v minister_n and_o do_v much_o honour_n the_o call_v but_o they_o find_v a_o fear_n and_o shrink_n in_o themselves_o and_o thereby_o a_o unwillingness_n to_o venture_v upon_o it_o if_o they_o ask_v how_o they_o amend_v this_o i_o answer_v or_o rather_o the_o example_n of_o his_o prophet_n answer_v for_o i_o let_v that_o man_n set_v himself_o in_o god_n presence_n enter_v into_o himself_o search_v his_o conscience_n fond_a out_o his_o sin_n confess_v and_o bewail_v they_o to_o god_n crave_v pardon_n in_o christ_n blood_n and_o grace_n to_o leave_v they_o and_o cease_v not_o till_o he_o hear_v the_o voice_n of_o god_n spirit_n sound_v in_o his_o conscience_n thy_o sin_n be_v forgive_v thou_o then_o when_o god_n shall_v ask_v never_o settle_v in_o assurance_n that_o their_o sin_n be_v forgive_v nor_o satisfy_v sufficient_o that_o god_n be_v on_o the_o side_n of_o all_o good_a minister_n and_o that_o that_o call_v as_o it_o have_v his_o authority_n from_o god_n so_o likewise_o allowance_n blessing_n assistance_n and_o defence_n of_o god_n above_o any_o other_o call_v for_o if_o they_o be_v they_o will_v scorn_v the_o storm_n and_o contemn_v the_o contempt_n of_o the_o profane_a world_n and_o with_o much_o courage_n and_o comfort_n set_v their_o hand_n to_o god_n plough_n and_o say_v with_o the_o prophet_n here_o i_o be_o send_v i_o second_o let_v we_o observe_v how_o the_o prophet_n when_o god_n ask_v the_o question_n send_v he_o not_o to_o other_o nor_o commend_v other_o to_o that_o service_n as_o be_v to_o be_v think_v he_o may_v have_v do_v many_o in_o the_o church_n of_o the_o jew_n but_o offer_v himself_o here_o be_o i_o it_o control_v the_o carnal_a course_n of_o many_o among_o we_o in_o the_o university_n who_o think_v it_o sufficient_a to_o live_v there_o and_o send_v out_o other_o man_n and_o give_v testimony_n and_o letter_n of_o commendation_n to_o other_o man_n but_o themselves_o stir_v not_o when_o question_n be_v make_v who_o shall_v go_v to_o such_o a_o place_n or_o who_o shall_v be_v send_v to_o such_o a_o parish_n they_o say_v not_o here_o be_o i_o but_o either_o it_o be_v too_o little_a a_o live_n or_o too_o great_a a_o charge_n or_o ill_o seat_v or_o some_o fault_n it_o have_v that_o they_o will_v not_o be_v send_v to_o it_o but_o will_v answer_v god_n and_o his_o church_n there_o be_v such_o a_o man_n and_o give_v he_o letter_n of_o testimony_n or_o commendation_n and_o so_o all_o be_v well_o but_o for_o themselves_o they_o live_v too_o sweet_a and_o easy_a life_n willing_o to_o undertake_v the_o attempt_n and_o burden_n of_o the_o ministry_n let_v such_o man_n therefore_o learn_v when_o god_n and_o his_o church_n give_v they_o a_o calling_n to_o answer_v with_o the_o prophet_n here_o be_o i_o send_v i_o and_o let_v all_o such_o as_o be_v student_n of_o divinity_n in_o the_o university_n mark_v here_o the_o prophet_n answer_n not_o i_o will_v be_v ready_a but_o here_o i_o be_o why_o take_v he_o no_o long_a time_n because_o he_o be_v now_o sufficient_o qualify_v where_o let_v they_o learn_v not_o to_o linger_v and_o lie_v riot_v too_o long_o in_o their_o specâ—daâ—iâ—e_a course_n but_o when_o they_o be_v competent_o furnish_v with_o learning_n and_o other_o quality_n befit_v that_o call_n let_v they_o show_v themselves_o willing_a and_o ready_a to_o yield_v their_o service_n to_o the_o church_n when_o they_o shall_v be_v call_v for_o as_o a_o apple_n may_v as_o well_o hang_v too_o long_o on_o the_o tree_n as_o be_v pull_v too_o soon_o and_o both_o make_v it_o unfit_a for_o use_v so_o may_v man_n as_o well_o stay_v too_o long_o as_o go_v out_o too_o soon_o and_o both_o way_n be_v make_v unprofitable_a or_o at_o least_o less_o profitable_a in_o the_o church_n and_o to_o conclude_v this_o second_o point_n it_o be_v not_o unworthy_a to_o be_v note_v that_o the_o prophet_n say_v not_o here_o i_o be_o and_o i_o run_v on_o my_o own_o head_n but_z send_v i_o he_o will_n the_o lord_n to_o send_v he_o then_o where_o be_v they_o who_o dare_v brag_v of_o their_o private_a motion_n and_o will_v run_v when_o they_o be_v not_o send_v the_o prophet_n may_v have_v say_v oh_o now_o i_o feel_v a_o motion_n from_o the_o spirit_n therefore_o i_o will_v go_v and_o preach_v but_o he_o stay_v till_o he_o be_v send_v in_o express_a term_n let_v no_o man_n therefore_o presume_v to_o press_v into_o this_o function_n till_o he_o be_v full_o resolve_v in_o his_o conscience_n that_o god_n and_o his_o church_n have_v say_v unto_o he_o go_v and_o though_o a_o man_n be_v never_o so_o well_o qualify_v with_o all_o manner_n of_o sufficiency_n yet_o let_v he_o sit_v still_o and_o stay_v god_n leisure_n and_o let_v he_o say_v here_o i_o be_o send_v i_o and_o so_o rest_v content_v until_o he_o be_v send_v if_o any_o man_n say_v it_o be_v unfit_a that_o a_o man_n shall_v say_v so_o of_o himself_o i_o answer_v let_v he_o not_o say_v so_o in_o word_n but_o in_o deed_n let_v he_o therefore_o make_v proof_n of_o himself_o and_o give_v the_o church_n trial_n of_o his_o gift_n upon_o which_o experience_n of_o his_o gift_n if_o he_o heed_n to_o all_o their_o way_n and_o for_o this_o end_n be_v it_o that_o a_o minister_n in_o godly_a wisdom_n must_v often_o deprive_v himself_o even_o of_o many_o thing_n which_o it_o may_v be_v and_o burden_n to_o his_o conscience_n and_o hence_o be_v it_o that_o a_o minister_n can_v be_v too_o careful_a in_o his_o call_n in_o his_o word_n diet_n company_n recreation_n apparel_n gesture_n and_o in_o his_o whole_a carriage_n because_o little_a sin_n be_v so_o great_a in_o they_o especial_o minister_n here_o learn_v the_o apostle_n lesson_n to_o be_v instant_a in_o season_n &_o out_o of_o season_n to_o preach_v and_o exhort_v to_o comfort_v and_o rebuke_v public_o and_o private_o to_o good_a to_o bad_a when_o it_o be_v well_o take_v when_o it_o be_v ill_o take_v when_o they_o willing_o receive_v it_o and_o when_o they_o stubborn_o resist_v it_o when_o they_o commend_v he_o and_o reward_v he_o and_o when_o they_o rail_v at_o he_o and_o persecute_v he_o for_o it_o thus_o must_v he_o be_v diligent_a in_o season_n &_o out_o of_o season_n for_o the_o least_o negligence_n in_o his_o duty_n or_o omit_v the_o least_o opportunity_n of_o do_v good_a will_v when_o god_n visit_v his_o conscience_n be_v a_o burden_n and_o vexation_n to_o he_o as_o it_o be_v here_o to_o the_o prophet_n and_o furthermore_o if_o these_o small_a sin_n thus_o afflict_v the_o prophet_n then_o alas_o what_o be_v to_o be_v think_v of_o those_o minister_n who_o make_v no_o conscience_n of_o foul_a &_o scandalous_a sin_n how_o shall_v simony_n incontinency_n usury_n inhospitality_n covetousness_n ignorance_n idleness_n careless_a nonresidencie_n how_o shall_v these_o i_o say_v and_o other_o like_o grievous_a crime_n oppress_v and_o burden_n the_o soul_n when_o as_o the_o small_a sin_n do_v so_o affright_v this_o holy_a man_n sure_o when_o god_n shall_v visit_v they_o their_o state_n will_v be_v most_o fearful_a nor_o shall_v any_o man_n case_n be_v so_o miserable_a as_o a_o their_o conscience_n then_o will_v they_o cry_v out_o in_o fearful_a anguish_n woe_n be_v i_o i_o be_o undo_v and_o again_o if_o these_o small_a fault_n so_o affright_v this_o holy_a prophet_n and_o burden_v his_o conscience_n then_o what_o pitiful_a conscience_n have_v those_o minister_n who_o daily_a negligence_n and_o unconscionable_a carelessness_n in_o their_o place_n be_v such_o as_o all_o man_n speak_v of_o and_o yet_o they_o be_v not_o touch_v sure_o these_o man_n be_v not_o of_o so_o tender_a conscience_n as_o the_o prophet_n be_v and_o either_o the_o prophet_n here_o be_v much_o more_o nice_a than_o need_v or_o else_o these_o man_n will_v prove_v to_o be_v in_o a_o miserable_a estate_n last_o let_v minister_n of_o care_n and_o conscience_n be_v here_o comfort_v in_o the_o examble_n of_o the_o prophet_n who_o be_v there_o but_o may_v find_v imperfection_n and_o blemish_n in_o himself_o which_o will_v often_o make_v he_o cry_v out_o woe_n be_v i_o but_o let_v not_o that_o discomfort_n they_o but_o rather_o rejoice_v that_o they_o can_v see_v their_o own_o weakness_n as_o the_o prophet_n do_v here_o if_o they_o have_v cause_n to_o exclaim_v against_o themselves_o they_o be_v not_o alone_o as_o be_v this_o and_o all_o other_o holy_a prophet_n case_n before_o they_o in_o have_v imperfection_n in_o themselves_o they_o be_v no_o more_o miserable_a than_o the_o prophet_n be_v but_o let_v they_o labour_n to_o be_v as_o bless_v in_o see_v &_o complain_v of_o themselves_o as_o he_o be_v and_o let_v every_o minister_n assure_v himself_o that_o the_o more_o he_o make_v conscience_n even_o of_o the_o least_o sin_n of_o all_o the_o more_o he_o resemble_v the_o ancient_a holy_a prophet_n &_o the_o more_o likely_a be_v he_o to_o work_v effectual_o in_o his_o ministry_n for_o his_o duty_n be_v to_o work_v in_o his_o people_n a_o conscience_n not_o of_o great_a sin_n only_o but_o even_o of_o all_o but_o how_o can_v he_o do_v that_o to_o they_o if_o he_o have_v not_o first_o of_o all_o do_v it_o in_o himself_o hence_o it_o be_v therefore_o that_o godly_a minister_n find_v fault_n with_o themselves_o when_o other_o man_n can_v and_o cry_v out_o against_o themselves_o for_o their_o pollution_n with_o the_o prophet_n here_o when_o no_o other_o man_n can_v accuse_v they_o of_o the_o least_o crime_n nay_o when_o other_o do_v magnify_v god_n for_o his_o grace_n on_o they_o and_o praise_v their_o gift_n and_o commend_v their_o good_a life_n even_o then_o do_v they_o condemn_v themselves_o and_o exclaim_v against_o their_o own_o corruption_n and_o their_o own_o small_a negligence_n or_o omission_n be_v great_a wound_n to_o their_o conscience_n &_o their_o last_o sin_n and_o their_o most_o pardonable_a infirmity_n be_v sore_a burden_n unto_o they_o for_o of_o all_o man_n in_o the_o world_n a_o godly_a minister_n be_v a_o man_n of_o the_o most_o tender_a conscience_n hitherto_o have_v the_o prophet_n complain_v general_o of_o his_o pollution_n particular_o he_o exclaim_v against_o the_o pollution_n of_o his_o â—ippes_n but_o why_o will_v some_o say_v complain_v he_o of_o the_o pollution_n of_o his_o â—ippes_n rather_o than_o of_o his_o heart_n or_o his_o hand_n or_o any_o other_o part_n of_o he_o be_v they_o not_o all_o pollute_a yes_o all_o in_o some_o measure_n and_o be_v not_o he_o grieve_v at_o they_o all_o yes_o assure_o we_o must_v grant_v that_o also_o but_o the_o reason_n be_v he_o be_v a_o prophet_n his_o duty_n be_v to_o use_v his_o tongue_n the_o practice_n of_o his_o call_n consist_v in_o the_o use_n of_o his_o tongue_n for_o a_o minister_n be_v a_o interpeter_n as_o he_o be_v call_v job._n 33.23_o that_o be_v the_o people_n to_o god_n by_o prayer_n and_o god_n to_o the_o people_n by_o preach_v he_o be_v god_n mouth_n and_o the_o people_n mouth_n so_o that_o the_o tongue_n of_o a_o minister_n be_v that_o part_n of_o his_o body_n which_o be_v to_o be_v use_v as_o a_o principal_a instrument_n of_o god_n glory_n and_o more_o to_o the_o setttng_a forth_o of_o his_o honour_n then_o any_o other_o now_o every_o man_n be_v to_o be_v try_v what_o he_o be_v by_o his_o call_n rather_o than_o by_o any_o other_o accidental_a or_o collateral_a course_n therefore_o the_o honour_n or_o dishonour_n of_o a_o minister_n be_v the_o use_n or_o the_o abuse_n of_o his_o tongue_n and_o his_o comfort_n or_o discomfort_n be_v the_o well_o use_v or_o not_o use_v of_o it_o the_o prophet_n therefore_o here_o affright_v at_o god_n presence_n and_o therefore_o retire_v into_o himself_o present_o his_o conscience_n check_n he_o for_o his_o most_o proper_a sin_n nam_o for_o some_o fault_n or_o negligence_n in_o his_o ministry_n which_o be_v the_o proper_a sin_n of_o that_o call_n and_o therefore_o be_v it_o that_o he_o exclaim_v against_o the_o pollution_n of_o his_o lip_n out_o of_o which_o practice_n of_o his_o we_o may_v learn_v first_o the_o vanity_n of_o the_o papist_n who_o of_o extraordinary_a grace_n yet_o dwell_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o a_o people_n so_o stubborn_a and_o disobedient_a as_o the_o jew_n be_v he_o be_v something_o touch_v with_o their_o pollution_n minister_n even_o the_o best_a be_v man_n and_o this_o come_v to_o pass_v by_o reason_n of_o the_o corruption_n of_o their_o nature_n as_o they_o be_v man_n the_o nature_n of_o which_o corruption_n be_v to_o apprehend_v any_o evil_n where_o ever_o it_o can_v be_v find_v and_o to_o partake_v with_o it_o regeneration_n qualifi_v and_o abate_v this_o corruption_n but_o take_v it_o not_o away_o perfect_o in_o this_o life_n whereby_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o a_o minister_n live_v among_o evil_a people_n can_v but_o be_v somewhat_o stain_v with_o their_o pollution_n of_o what_o sort_n soever_o they_o be_v insomuch_o as_o it_o be_v often_o see_v that_o one_o know_v to_o be_v otherwise_o dispose_v of_o himself_o be_v find_v to_o be_v dispose_v to_o this_o or_o that_o evil_a by_o live_v among_o a_o people_n so_o dispose_v and_o again_o that_o a_o minister_n in_o such_o a_o place_n &_o among_o such_o people_n free_a from_o such_o and_o such_o sin_n remove_v to_o another_o place_n be_v there_o find_v more_o or_o less_o taint_v with_o they_o because_o they_o abound_v among_o the_o people_n and_o yet_o further_o that_o a_o minister_n know_v to_o be_v faithful_a painful_a and_o zealous_a and_o come_v to_o a_o disobedient_a stubborn_a froward_a or_o profane_a and_o dissolute_a people_n his_o faith_n be_v weaken_v his_o zeal_n and_o courage_n abate_v god_n grace_n in_o he_o dull_v &_o much_o decay_a godly_a minister_n do_v daily_o complain_v hereof_o and_o experience_n every_o where_o show_v it_o too_o true_a out_o of_o this_o we_o may_v learn_v something_o both_o for_o our_o instruction_n and_o for_o our_o conversation_n for_o our_o instruction_n it_o here_o appear_v how_o wicked_a and_o wretched_a the_o corruption_n of_o our_o nature_n be_v which_o can_v but_o receive_v some_o contagion_n from_o the_o pollution_n of_o those_o with_o who_o we_o live_v for_o this_o be_v so_o not_o only_o in_o they_o who_o carry_v a_o loose_a hand_n over_o themselves_o but_o even_o in_o such_o as_o look_v most_o narrow_o unto_o their_o step_n as_o we_o see_v here_o in_o this_o holy_a prophet_n who_o be_v a_o man_n of_o more_o than_o ordinary_a sanctification_n how_o little_a cause_n therefore_o have_v any_o man_n to_o extol_v nature_n and_o how_o much_o less_o cause_n the_o schoolman_n and_o some_o other_o papist_n to_o give_v the_o least_o commendation_n to_o our_o pure_a natural_n for_o if_o nature_n rectify_v by_o grace_n be_v so_o hardly_o keep_v within_o compass_n alas_o how_o outrageous_a and_o perverse_a be_v it_o when_o it_o reign_v without_o controlment_n and_o for_o our_o further_a instruction_n here_o we_o may_v see_v of_o what_o a_o creep_a and_o encroach_a nature_n sin_n be_v which_o like_o a_o secret_a venom_n in_o the_o natural_a body_n so_o it_o in_o the_o politic_a body_n rest_v not_o in_o the_o place_n or_o paâ—tie_a poison_a but_o close_o creep_v and_o diffuse_v itself_o into_o every_o part_n and_o member_n of_o the_o whole_a it_o creep_v from_o man_n to_o man_n yea_o from_o a_o evil_a man_n to_o a_o good_a from_o the_o worst_a man_n to_o the_o best_a from_o profane_a man_n to_o godly_a minister_n and_o as_o from_o public_a person_n as_o magistrate_n and_o minister_n it_o descend_v visible_o and_o the_o example_n of_o their_o evil_a life_n be_v palpable_o scandalous_a so_o from_o the_o people_n to_o the_o magistrate_n or_o minister_n it_o creep_v close_o and_o ascend_v in_o more_o secret_a and_o insensible_a manner_n yet_o in_o the_o effect_n it_o be_v too_o sensible_a for_o it_o be_v always_o see_v that_o they_o be_v something_o touch_v with_o their_o people_n pollution_n sin_n be_v not_o only_o as_o a_o poison_n spread_v from_o the_o heart_n to_o all_o part_n from_o the_o minister_n to_o the_o people_n but_o as_o a_o gangreve_v if_o it_o begin_v in_o the_o foot_n will_v without_o speedy_a prevention_n spread_v privy_o to_o the_o hart_n so_o sin_n show_v itself_o even_o from_o the_o people_n to_o the_o minister_n so_o great_a cause_n be_v there_o for_o all_o man_n to_o stop_v sin_n in_o the_o beginning_n to_o break_v it_o in_o the_o egg_n to_o give_v water_n no_o passage_n no_o not_o a_o little_a for_o let_v this_o gangreve_v begin_v at_o the_o foot_n it_o will_v not_o rest_v till_o it_o be_v in_o the_o heart_n for_o our_o confirmation_n we_o be_v here_o teach_v first_o if_o a_o minister_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o corruption_n of_o his_o own_o nature_n and_o the_o creep_a nature_n of_o sin_n be_v in_o such_o danger_n to_o be_v stain_v with_o the_o people_n pollution_n then_o let_v all_o minister_n desire_v and_o use_v all_o good_a mean_n to_o dwell_v with_o a_o people_n as_o little_o pollute_v as_o may_v be_v otherwise_o let_v he_o assure_v himself_o to_o be_v pollute_v with_o they_o which_o be_v both_o a_o great_a discomfort_n to_o his_o own_o conscience_n as_o here_o it_o be_v to_o the_o prophet_n and_o disgrace_n to_o his_o profession_n for_o if_o it_o be_v a_o duty_n of_o every_o good_a professor_n of_o religion_n to_o keep_v himself_o unspotted_a of_o the_o world_n 1.17_o then_o how_o much_o more_o be_v it_o the_o minister_n duty_n so_o to_o do_v and_o how_o foul_a a_o stain_n be_v it_o to_o the_o honour_n of_o his_o call_n to_o be_v pollute_v in_o the_o common_a pollution_n of_o his_o people_n it_o may_v be_v therefore_o good_a counsel_n to_o all_o godly_a minister_n in_o the_o place_n and_o dispose_n of_o themselves_o not_o to_o inquire_v only_o how_o good_a a_o live_n such_o and_o such_o a_o place_n be_v how_o well_o seat_v how_o healthful_a and_o beneficial_a it_o will_v be_v which_o be_v alas_o the_o common_a and_o almost_o the_o only_a question_n now_o adays_o but_o principal_o to_o regard_v what_o a_o people_n they_o be_v and_o how_o affect_v among_o who_o they_o be_v to_o live_v if_o godly_a and_o well_o dispose_v or_o at_o least_o tractable_a and_o gentle_a and_o willing_a to_o be_v teach_v then_o less_o to_o regard_v other_o incommodity_n but_o if_o wicked_a &_o profane_a or_o which_o be_v worse_o stubborn_a froward_a &_o untractable_a then_o less_o to_o regard_v the_o great_a commodity_n and_o certain_o if_o this_o point_n be_v well_o consider_v of_o and_o how_o bitter_a it_o have_v be_v in_o the_o end_n to_o many_o who_o have_v not_o regard_v it_o it_o will_v appear_v that_o this_o be_v the_o best_a encouragement_n or_o discouragement_n the_o great_a commodity_n or_o discommodity_n and_o the_o best_a reason_n either_o to_o win_v a_o man_n to_o a_o place_n or_o to_o draw_v he_o from_o it_o how_o good_a soever_o it_o be_v otherways_o they_o that_o neglect_v this_o duty_n and_o be_v lead_v or_o mislead_v rather_o with_o carnal_a and_o worldly_a respect_n how_o just_a be_v it_o upon_o they_o have_v poor_a live_n but_o good_a people_n let_v they_o not_o faint_v nor_o be_v discourage_v they_o have_v more_o cause_n to_o bless_v god_n then_o to_o be_v grieve_v for_o doubtless_o they_o be_v far_o better_o than_o those_o who_o have_v great_a live_n and_o a_o evil_a people_n but_o as_o for_o those_o to_o who_o god_n have_v be_v so_o good_a as_o to_o bestow_v upon_o they_o competent_a live_n and_o a_o willing_a and_o well_o dispose_v people_n let_v they_o think_v themselves_o double_o bless_v of_o god_n and_o treble_v bind_v to_o honour_n god_n and_o to_o do_v good_a in_o his_o church_n and_o if_o such_o man_n go_v not_o before_o their_o brethren_n in_o all_o ministerial_a care_n and_o duty_n their_o fault_n be_v above_o all_o man_n and_o they_o make_v themselves_o unworthy_a of_o so_o great_a mercy_n again_o if_o that_o a_o pollute_a people_n pollute_v their_o minister_n here_o be_v a_o good_a warning_n for_o all_o minister_n to_o be_v wary_a and_o choice_n of_o their_o company_n with_o who_o they_o will_v most_o private_o converse_v for_o as_o on_o the_o one_o side_n they_o may_v not_o retire_v themselves_o into_o solitariness_n nor_o sequester_v themselves_o from_o all_o society_n with_o their_o people_n which_o be_v rather_o a_o cimical_a and_o fantastical_a than_o any_o way_n a_o religious_a practice_n so_o of_o all_o man_n be_v they_o to_o be_v most_o careful_a that_o they_o do_v not_o loose_o and_o lavish_o bestow_v themselves_o on_o all_o company_n as_o too_o many_o do_v in_o our_o church_n to_o the_o great_a scandell_n thereof_o who_o care_v not_o with_o who_o they_o converse_v but_o all_o company_n all_o place_n
all_o time_n all_o sport_n and_o recreation_n all_o meeting_n all_o occasion_n be_v one_o with_o they_o but_o alas_o what_o marvel_v though_o such_o man_n keep_v not_o themselves_o unspotted_a of_o the_o world_n but_o prove_v too_o offensive_a to_o their_o call_n for_o see_v the_o best_a man_n can_v live_v with_o the_o best_a people_n but_o they_o shall_v receive_v some_o contagion_n from_o they_o how_o careful_o ought_v ordinary_a minister_n to_o make_v difference_n of_o man_n and_o meeting_n time_n and_o place_n and_o not_o diffuse_o and_o careless_o to_o thrust_v themselves_o into_o all_o so_o do_v shall_v they_o keep_v their_o call_n from_o much_o reproach_n and_o preserve_v themselves_o from_o much_o pollution_n which_o otherwise_o from_o their_o pollute_a people_n they_o shall_v be_v sure_a to_o receive_v and_o here_o people_n be_v to_o be_v admonish_v not_o too_o sharp_o to_o censure_v their_o minister_n though_o he_o be_v not_o so_o sociable_a with_o they_o all_o as_o it_o may_v be_v many_o will_v expect_v for_o it_o concern_v no_o man_n to_o be_v so_o wary_a of_o his_o company_n and_o his_o sport_n as_o it_o do_v the_o minister_n and_o if_o they_o will_v have_v comfort_n and_o honour_n by_o their_o minister_n let_v they_o be_v â—areful_a into_o what_o recreation_n and_o company_n they_o draw_v or_o desire_v he_o for_o the_o more_o pollute_v the_o people_n be_v among_o who_o he_o live_v the_o more_o careful_a must_v he_o be_v to_o keep_v himself_o clear_a from_o their_o pollution_n last_o here_o people_n be_v teach_v not_o to_o be_v too_o sharp_a condemner_n of_o those_o minister_n who_o conversation_n be_v not_o so_o unblameable_a as_o be_v to_o be_v wish_v for_o if_o they_o live_v ill_a general_o the_o cause_n be_v because_o they_o live_v among_o a_o ill_a people_n why_o then_o shall_v they_o so_o much_o condemn_v they_o for_o such_o fault_n as_o wherein_o themselves_o have_v make_v they_o faulty_a i_o say_v not_o but_o our_o church_n and_o state_n and_o ministry_n be_v to_o censure_v such_o man_n and_o it_o be_v good_a they_o do_v it_o more_o but_o it_o be_v against_o all_o reason_n the_o people_n shall_v do_v so_o whereas_o themselves_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o it_o for_n alas_o if_o this_o holy_a prophet_n be_v a_o man_n of_o pollute_a lip_n because_o heâ—_n dwell_v with_o a_o people_n of_o pollute_a lip_n what_o marvel_v then_o though_o ordinary_a minister_n be_v pollute_v with_o the_o common_a and_o universal_a pollution_n of_o their_o people_n people_n therefore_o be_v first_o of_o all_o to_o see_v that_o themselves_o be_v well_o order_v and_o godly_a and_o then_o just_o may_v they_o complain_v if_o the_o life_n of_o their_o minister_n be_v not_o agreeable_a but_o otherwise_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a without_o very_o special_a grace_n of_o god_n but_o that_o a_o minister_n shall_v be_v more_o or_o less_o touch_v with_o to_o those_o crime_n which_o be_v the_o common_a fault_n of_o his_o people_n and_o lamentable_a experience_n daily_o let_v we_o see_v that_o where_o a_o people_n in_o a_o town_n be_v give_v to_o drunkenness_n there_o the_o minister_n be_v either_o so_o for_o company_n or_o at_o least_o too_o good_a a_o fellow_n where_o a_o people_n be_v give_v to_o contention_n there_o the_o minister_n have_v too_o many_o suit_n where_o the_o people_n be_v popish_a there_o the_o minister_n be_v too_o superstitious_a where_o the_o people_n be_v ignorant_a there_o y_z e_z minister_n be_v no_o great_a clerk_n where_o the_o people_n be_v give_v to_o any_o great_a sin_n there_o the_o minister_n general_o be_v not_o clear_a from_o the_o same_o pollution_n and_o it_o be_v see_v that_o the_o best_a minister_n and_o most_o careful_a of_o all_o do_v complain_v bitter_o of_o the_o pollution_n of_o their_o people_n for_o that_o howsoever_o it_o may_v be_v they_o escape_v partake_v with_o their_o sin_n yet_o they_o always_o find_v at_o the_o least_o a_o dull_n and_o decay_v of_o god_n grace_n in_o themselves_o where_o the_o people_n be_v untoward_a and_o disobedient_a if_o therefore_o a_o minister_n live_v with_o such_o a_o people_n his_o case_n be_v pitiful_a and_o dangerous_a for_o he_o walk_v in_o y_z e_z midst_n of_o net_n &_o snare_n which_o be_v lay_v for_o he_o on_o every_o side_n and_o if_o he_o escape_v they_o i_o mean_v if_o he_o keep_v himself_o unspotted_a in_o the_o midst_n of_o a_o spot_a and_o pollute_a people_n his_o care_n and_o his_o conscience_n be_v worthy_a both_o admiration_n and_o imitation_n and_o himself_o be_v worthy_a double_a honour_n as_o be_v both_o a_o zealous_a minister_n and_o a_o holy_a man_n but_o he_o who_o god_n have_v bless_v with_o a_o good_a and_o tractable_a people_n and_o well_o affect_v to_o the_o word_n and_o yet_o himself_o live_v loose_o and_o scandalous_o among_o they_o a_o heavy_a burden_n and_o a_o hard_a account_n lie_v on_o that_o minister_n and_o no_o rebuke_n be_v too_o rough_a no_o punishment_n too_o great_a no_o censure_n too_o sharp_a for_o he_o and_o if_o this_o holy_a prophet_n fear_v so_o much_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n for_o his_o small_a pollution_n and_o yet_o live_v among_o so_o wicked_a and_o pollute_v a_o people_n than_o what_o heaviness_n and_o horror_n shall_v be_v heap_v on_o his_o soul_n who_o care_v not_o with_o how_o foul_a pollution_n his_o life_n be_v stain_v and_o yet_o live_v among_o a_o godly_a and_o well_o dispose_v people_n and_o thus_o we_o have_v the_o first_o cause_n of_o his_o fear_n his_o own_o and_o his_o people_n pollution_n it_o follow_v and_o my_o eye_n have_v see_v the_o king_n and_o lord_n of_o hostes._n the_o second_o cause_n of_o the_o prophet_n fear_n and_o astonishment_n be_v he_o see_v the_o lord_n who_o then_o appear_v in_o glory_n unto_o he_o not_o that_o he_o see_v the_o substance_n of_o god_n for_o that_o iâ—_n invisible_a and_o incomprehensible_a bâ—t_v hiâ—_n glory_n nor_o the_o fullness_n of_o 〈◊〉_d glory_n for_o that_o can_v be_v endure_v but_o a_o glimpse_n of_o it_o nor_o that_o with_o the_o eye_n of_o his_o body_n in_o ordinary_a manner_n but_o in_o a_o vision_n wherein_o how_o far_o the_o eye_n of_o his_o body_n be_v use_v neither_o the_o prophet_n expressâ—â—_n nor_o we_o can_v well_o conceive_v the_o mâ—â—ning_n than_o be_v â—n_o a_o vision_n he_o see_v such_o glory_n and_o maiesâ—â—â—_n as_o he_o know_v there_o be_v a_o extraordinary_a presence_n of_o the_o lord_n of_o host_n who_o be_v the_o king_n of_o glory_n at_o who_o sight_n and_o think_v of_o his_o presence_n instant_o his_o conscience_n iâ—_n smite_v with_o fear_n for_o his_o own_o infirmity_n and_o the_o pollution_n of_o his_o people_n wherein_o let_v we_o first_o of_o all_o observe_v the_o connexion_n and_o dependence_n of_o these_o two_o cause_n one_o upon_o another_o for_o as_o they_o be_v both_o joint_o the_o cause_n of_o his_o fear_n so_o one_o of_o they_o be_v in_o a_o sort_n the_o cause_n of_o another_o he_o fear_v because_o of_o his_o own_o and_o his_o people_n sin_n and_o because_o he_o see_v the_o lord_n but_o why_o be_v he_o afraid_a to_o see_v the_o lord_n the_o cause_n thereof_o be_v his_o own_o and_o their_o sin_n without_o which_o he_o will_v never_o have_v be_v afraid_a but_o rather_o have_v glorify_v to_o see_v the_o lord_n but_o his_o conscience_n check_v he_o for_o some_o defect_n of_o duty_n in_o his_o call_n therefore_o he_o tremble_v at_o the_o least_o glimpse_n of_o god_n glory_n here_o let_v we_o mark_v the_o ground_n of_o his_o reason_n which_o be_v this_o that_o man_n that_o be_v in_o his_o sin_n be_v not_o able_a to_o stand_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n this_o be_v a_o general_a and_o certain_a truth_n &_o the_o reason_n of_o it_o be_v first_o the_o contrariety_n betwixt_o god_n and_o the_o nature_n of_o sin_n it_o be_v the_o only_a thing_n which_o offend_v he_o &_o which_o provoke_v his_o wrath_n and_o just_a displeasure_n therefore_o as_o a_o subject_n can_v but_o be_v much_o amaze_v if_o he_o hap_v to_o come_v into_o the_o king_n presence_n with_o any_o thing_n about_o he_o which_o the_o king_n hate_v or_o can_v abide_v to_o see_v so_o a_o man_n can_v but_o be_v extreme_a astonish_v if_o he_o know_v himself_o to_o be_v in_o god_n presence_n with_o his_o sin_n which_o god_n soul_n hate_v second_o sin_n make_v a_o man_n indebt_v to_o god_n for_o as_o the_o law_n tie_v he_o first_o to_o obedience_n so_o if_o he_o sin_n and_o fail_v in_o that_o it_o bind_v he_o to_o punishment_n and_o the_o more_o a_o man_n sin_v the_o deper_n be_v he_o in_o god_n debt_n if_o then_o in_o this_o world_n a_o man_n willing_o endure_v not_o the_o sight_n of_o he_o in_o who_o debt_n he_o be_v what_o marvel_n though_o a_o poor_a sinner_n tremble_v at_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n
to_o who_o he_o have_v forfeit_v soul_n and_o all_o three_o sin_n be_v that_o which_o provoke_v god_n to_o wrath_n therefore_o a_o sinful_a man_n fear_v the_o presence_n of_o god_n as_o a_o traitor_n the_o face_n of_o the_o prince_n or_o a_o malefactor_n of_o the_o judge_n for_o these_o cause_n a_o wicman_n endure_v not_o god_n presence_n now_o god_n presence_n have_v diverse_a degree_n first_o god_n be_v present_a to_o our_o conscience_n when_o we_o think_v of_o he_o 2._o he_o be_v present_a when_o we_o name_v he_o or_o hear_v he_o name_v or_o mention_v by_o other_o and_o these_o be_v the_o further_a of_o three_o god_n be_v near_a unto_o we_o in_o the_o presence_n of_o his_o ordinance_n as_o his_o word_n and_o sacrament_n and_o public_a service_n in_o the_o congregation_n four_o there_o be_v a_o most_o apparent_a and_o sensible_a presence_n of_o god_n which_o shall_v be_v at_o the_o last_o judgement_n when_o all_o man_n shall_v stand_v before_o he_o in_o his_o immediate_a presence_n to_o receive_v their_o judgement_n now_o all_o these_o presence_n of_o god_n be_v hateful_a to_o a_o wicked_a man_n for_o the_o first_o a_o wicked_a man_n by_o his_o good_a will_v never_o think_v of_o god_n and_o if_o sometime_o a_o thought_n of_o god_n like_o lightning_n flash_v in_o his_o mind_n present_o he_o quench_v it_o as_o be_v a_o most_o unwelcome_a and_o burdensome_a thought_n unto_o he_o therefore_o say_v david_n the_o wicked_a be_v so_o proud_a 10.4_o he_o care_v not_o for_o god_n neither_o be_v god_n in_o all_o his_o thought_n nay_o god_n himself_o be_v so_o little_a thought_n on_o by_o they_o that_o they_o will_v willing_o think_v of_o nothing_o that_o may_v bring_v god_n into_o their_o thought_n as_o namely_o god_n great_a work_n of_o his_o wonderful_a judgement_n of_o who_o the_o same_o prophet_n say_v in_o the_o same_o place_n 10.5_o thy_o judgement_n be_v far_o above_o out_o of_o his_o sight_n as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v he_o labour_v to_o set_v they_o far_o from_o the_o eye_n of_o his_o mind_n that_o he_o may_v never_o have_v occasion_n to_o think_v of_o they_o nor_o on_o god_n by_o they_o that_o this_o be_v true_a for_o his_o thought_n i_o have_v endeavour_v thus_o to_o prove_v by_o god_n own_o testimony_n because_o thought_n can_v be_v discern_v by_o man_n but_o alas_o for_o the_o second_o that_o be_v for_o his_o word_n that_o be_v too_o apparent_a in_o the_o sight_n of_o all_o man_n for_o observe_v it_o and_o you_o shall_v never_o see_v a_o wicked_a man_n by_o his_o good_a will_v have_v god_n in_o his_o mouth_n unless_o it_o be_v to_o abuse_v his_o name_n by_o swear_v or_o blasphemy_n nor_o willing_o do_v he_o hear_v any_o other_o man_n talk_v or_o discourse_v large_o of_o god_n or_o of_o his_o greatness_n and_o his_o justice_n but_o such_o talk_n be_v tedious_a &_o cumbersome_a unto_o he_o and_o if_o he_o can_v break_v it_o off_o with_o other_o discourse_n than_o he_o sit_v as_o mute_a as_o a_o fish_n and_o inward_o either_o fret_n with_o anger_n or_o be_v torment_v with_o fear_n all_o this_o be_v true_a in_o felix_n the_o governor_n who_o whilst_o paul_n discourse_v of_o righteousness_n 24.26_o temperance_n and_o judgement_n to_o come_v the_o text_n say_v in_o the_o mean_a time_n he_o tremble_v and_o for_o the_o three_o we_o see_v daily_o wicked_a man_n endure_v not_o god_n presence_n in_o the_o church_n for_o nothing_o be_v more_o troublesome_a unto_o they_o than_o many_o sermon_n often_o pray_v and_o much_o receive_n of_o the_o sacrament_n &_o therefore_o they_o never_o come_v to_o the_o church_n nor_o receive_v oft_o than_o the_o law_n lay_v upon_o they_o but_o further_a than_o that_o as_o the_o psalmist_n say_v 14.4_o they_o never_o call_v upon_o god_n but_o as_o for_o the_o last_o that_o they_o fear_v and_o abhor_v above_o all_o they_o wish_v in_o their_o heart_n it_o may_v never_o be_v and_o therefore_o s._n paul_n make_v it_o a_o token_n of_o a_o true_a believer_n and_o a_o holy_a man_n 4.8_o to_o love_v and_o look_v for_o the_o appear_v of_o jesus_n christ._n whereupon_o it_o follow_v that_o even_o so_o it_o be_v a_o sign_n of_o a_o wicked_a man_n to_o fear_v the_o last_o judgement_n &_o to_o wish_v it_o may_v never_o be_v and_o when_o it_o come_v in_o deed_n &_o they_o see_v they_o can_v escape_v it_o when_o then_o do_v they_o even_o cry_v to_o the_o mountain_n 6.16_o fall_v upon_o we_o and_o to_o the_o hill_n cover_v we_o and_o hide_v we_o from_o what_o from_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n so_o fearful_a and_o so_o hateful_a be_v god_n presence_n to_o a_o sinful_a man_n beside_o these_o there_o be_v another_o way_n whereby_o god_n show_v his_o presence_n and_o that_o be_v by_o extraordinary_a revelation_n of_o his_o glory_n immediate_o which_o be_v usual_a in_o the_o old_a testament_n as_o here_o to_o the_o prophet_n but_o now_o be_v not_o to_o be_v expect_v but_o how_o terrible_a that_o be_v to_o the_o sinful_a nature_n of_o man_n appear_v in_o this_o place_n for_o if_o the_o prophet_n a_o most_o holy_a man_n who_o conscience_n accuse_v he_o but_o of_o a_o few_o and_o small_a sin_n yet_o thus_o cry_v out_o amaze_v &_o affright_v at_o the_o revelation_n of_o some_o part_n of_o god_n glory_n alas_o how_o will_v they_o be_v terrify_v with_o it_o who_o conscience_n be_v burden_v with_o great_a and_o grievous_a sin_n &_o that_o without_o repentance_n thus_o we_o see_v the_o ground_n of_o his_o reason_n how_o true_a it_o be_v that_o a_o man_n in_o his_o sin_n can_v cheerful_o come_v nor_o bold_o stand_v in_o god_n presence_n the_o use_n of_o this_o doctrine_n first_o of_o all_o let_v we_o see_v the_o monstrous_a presumption_n of_o such_o minister_n as_o dare_v venture_v rash_o into_o the_o ministry_n minister_n to_o tread_v upon_o the_o holy_a ground_n of_o god_n with_o unclean_a fleet_n to_o handle_v the_o holy_a thing_n of_o god_n with_o unwashen_n hand_n for_o what_o be_v it_o to_o enter_v into_o the_o ministry_n but_o to_o enter_v into_o the_o chamber_n of_o presence_n of_o the_o great_a king_n and_o shall_v not_o a_o man_n look_v about_o he_o afore_o he_o come_v there_o therefore_o if_o god_n rebuke_v moses_n for_o step_v too_o hasty_o towards_o the_o busâ—e_n where_o his_o presence_n be_v 3.5_o and_o say_v come_v not_o too_o near_o for_o the_o place_n where_o thou_o stand_v iâ—_n holy_a ground_n then_o how_o will_v god_n rebuke_v and_o check_v the_o conscience_n of_o such_o carnal_a man_n as_o careless_o &_o carnal_o rush_v into_o the_o pulpit_n and_o to_o god_n holy_a table_n where_o god_n be_v present_a in_o a_o far_o more_o excellent_a manner_n than_o he_o be_v in_o the_o bush_n and_o if_o they_o be_v so_o to_o be_v blame_v who_o enter_v into_o this_o call_n without_o fear_n and_o reverence_n then_o how_o much_o more_o faulty_a be_v they_o who_o be_v minister_n dare_v venture_v to_o preach_v or_o minister_v the_o holy_a sacrament_n without_o holy_a and_o private_a preparation_n and_o sanctification_n of_o themselves_o but_o rush_v upon_o they_o as_o upon_o common_a &_o profane_a action_n whereas_o god_n be_v present_a there_o in_o a_o most_o holy_a and_o glorious_a manner_n these_o man_n sure_o will_v say_v the_o prophet_n here_o be_v of_o too_o nice_a a_o conscience_n but_o fearful_o and_o terrible_o shall_v god_n appear_v at_o last_o unto_o such_o man_n use_n as_o care_v not_o how_o they_o appear_v in_o his_o holy_a presence_n second_o this_o show_v the_o reason_n of_o the_o practice_n of_o all_o christian_a church_n who_o use_v to_o sing_v before_o the_o sermon_n and_o after_o namely_o not_o for_o decorum_n only_o &_o to_o grace_v the_o action_n but_o to_o sanctify_v and_o to_o humble_v ourselves_o because_o than_o we_o come_v before_o god_n presence_n they_o therefore_o do_v not_o think_v reverent_o enough_o of_o god_n and_o his_o presence_n who_o do_v by_o their_o practice_n in_o any_o sort_n use_n make_v way_n to_o the_o contrary_n three_o we_o may_v here_o learn_v the_o pitiful_a case_n of_o those_o minister_n who_o be_v so_o presumptuous_a as_o to_o exercise_v that_o holy_a function_n &_o yet_o remain_v in_o their_o sin_n without_o repentance_n what_o do_v these_o man_n they_o approach_v to_o the_o burn_a bush_n with_o their_o shoe_n on_o their_o foot_n that_o be_v into_o god_n presence_n in_o their_o sin_n what_o shall_v come_v of_o it_o in_o the_o end_n sure_o that_o burn_a fire_n shall_v consume_v they_o the_o least_o sin_n &_o small_a negligence_n affright_v this_o holy_a prophet_n when_o he_o shall_v go_v into_o god_n presence_n 50.16_o but_o these_o man_n dare_v come_v into_o the_o sanctuary_n of_o god_n yea_o dare_v take_v god_n word_n in_o their_o mouth_n be_v and_o yet_o hate_v to_o be_v reform_v and_o do_v cast_v the_o
glorious_a word_n of_o god_n behind_o their_o back_n which_o they_o preach_v to_o other_o with_o â—heir_a mouth_n these_o man_n may_v wonder_v at_o this_o holy_a prophet_n niceness_n or_o else_o all_o the_o world_n may_v wonder_v at_o their_o profaneness_n a_o little_a pollution_n of_o his_o lip_n fear_v he_o to_o come_v into_o god_n presence_n but_o these_o dare_v do_v it_o with_o eye_n ear_n lip_n foot_n hand_n heart_n and_o all_o pollute_a their_o eye_n pollute_v with_o careless_a look_v at_o all_o vanity_n their_o ear_n with_o hear_v and_o their_o lip_n with_o speak_v wanton_a &_o wicked_a talk_n their_o foot_n with_o run_v into_o wicked_a company_n their_o hand_n with_o practise_v and_o their_o heart_n with_o devise_v and_o consent_v to_o all_o wickedness_n this_o be_v the_o cause_n why_o the_o labour_n of_o such_o man_n be_v almost_o unprofitable_a because_o they_o dare_v come_v into_o god_n presence_n in_o their_o sin_n in_o many_o place_n of_o our_o land_n there_o be_v by_o god_n blessing_n much_o teach_n yet_o there_o be_v little_a reformation_n in_o the_o life_n of_o the_o most_o but_o contrariwise_o some_o fall_n to_o atheism_n some_o to_o papisme_n some_o into_o foul_a sin_n not_o to_o be_v name_v among_o christian_n where_o be_v the_o cause_n sure_o not_o in_o the_o gospel_n nor_o in_o our_o doctrine_n nor_o in_o the_o teach_n of_o it_o but_o one_o very_o principal_a cause_n be_v many_o minister_n come_v into_o god_n presence_n unsanctified_a &_o in_o their_o sin_n not_o care_v how_o loose_o they_o live_v in_o the_o face_n of_o their_o people_n and_o their_o minister_n be_v godly_a man_n as_o good_a scholar_n &_o their_o life_n inoffensive_a as_o well_o as_o their_o doctrine_n sound_n or_o else_o they_o will_v find_v in_o woeful_a experience_n that_o they_o pull_v down_o as_o much_o with_o the_o one_o hand_n as_o they_o build_v up_o with_o the_o other_o but_o most_o near_o this_o doctrine_n touch_v minister_n themselves_o who_o must_v know_v their_o case_n be_v most_o fearful_a of_o all_o man_n if_o they_o come_v into_o god_n presence_n in_o their_o profaneness_n for_o as_o no_o man_n be_v more_o honourable_a than_o a_o learned_a and_o holy_a minister_n so_o none_o more_o contemptible_a in_o this_o world_n none_o more_o miserable_a for_o that_o to_o come_v than_o he_o that_o by_o his_o loose_a &_o lewd_a life_n do_v scandalize_v his_o doctrine_n and_o let_v he_o assure_v himself_o that_o for_o his_o presumption_n in_o rush_v into_o god_n presence_n in_o his_o sin_n he_o shall_v in_o this_o world_n be_v cast_v out_o as_o unsavoury_a salt_n and_o tread_v down_o of_o man_n 5.13_o with_o the_o foot_n of_o contempt_n and_o in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v he_o shall_v above_o all_o man_n cry_v out_o in_o most_o unhumbled_a people_n and_o teach_v they_o the_o gospel_n which_o never_o know_v the_o law_n here_o the_o fiery_a coal_n be_v use_v but_o the_o lip_n be_v not_o touch_v that_o be_v good_a doctrine_n teach_v but_o not_o well_o apply_v for_o that_o the_o law_n shall_v first_o be_v lay_v to_o their_o conscience_n other_o beat_v all_o upon_o the_o law_n when_o it_o may_v be_v their_o hearer_n be_v a_o people_n sufficient_o cast_v down_o and_o have_v more_o need_n to_o be_v raise_v up_o with_o the_o sweet_a comfort_n of_o the_o gospel_n other_o use_v to_o lay_v open_a the_o nakedness_n of_o the_o court_n in_o the_o country_n and_o to_o reprove_v the_o fault_n of_o prince_n and_o great_a magistrate_n before_o the_o common_a people_n who_o have_v more_o need_n of_o the_o catechism_n other_o bring_v the_o catechism_n or_o point_n of_o ordinary_a instruction_n into_o the_o court_n where_o y_a e_o duty_n of_o king_n &_o counsellor_n shall_v be_v teach_v in_o all_o plainness_n and_o sincerity_n other_o bring_v their_o new_a opinion_n or_o controversall_a point_n unto_o popular_a audience_n which_o indeed_o be_v fit_a for_o the_o school_n other_o busy_v themselves_o about_o ceremony_n when_o the_o substance_n be_v in_o danger_n to_o be_v lose_v all_o these_o have_v it_o may_v be_v the_o coal_n of_o fire_n but_o it_o be_v misapply_v and_o not_o apply_v to_o the_o pollute_a lip_n let_v all_o minister_n therefore_o learn_v this_o point_n of_o wisdom_n of_o the_o angel_n to_o apply_v the_o medicine_n of_o their_o doctrine_n to_o the_o time_n person_n and_o place_n which_o be_v infect_v so_o shall_v they_o be_v sure_a not_o to_o take_v pain_n in_o vain_a and_o thus_o much_o of_o the_o circumstance_n of_o his_o consolation_n it_o follow_v in_o the_o text_n consolation_n loe_o thy_o iniquity_n shall_v be_v take_v away_o and_o thy_o sin_n shall_v be_v purge_v after_o the_o circumstance_n follow_v the_o ground_n and_o matter_n of_o his_o the_o reason_n be_v many_o first_o all_o prophet_n and_o minister_n be_v god_n deputy_n and_o commissioner_n it_o be_v therefore_o reason_n that_o they_o have_v authority_n from_o their_o lord_n and_o master_n second_o their_o word_n nor_o deed_n bear_v no_o credit_n nor_o have_v any_o power_n in_o they_o unless_o they_o be_v speak_v by_o virtue_n of_o a_o commission_n nor_o have_v their_o labour_n vision_n nor_o apparition_n from_o heaven_n for_o ordinary_o there_o be_v none_o such_o and_o the_o popish_a church_n do_v but_o deceive_v themselves_o and_o cozen_v the_o world_n who_o tell_v we_o of_o so_o many_o apparition_n that_o happen_v to_o their_o monk_n and_o friar_n for_o now_o ordinary_o god_n speak_v in_o another_o manner_n to_o his_o church_n for_o in_o general_n duty_n god_n speak_v to_o we_o out_o of_o his_o word_n and_o holy_a scripture_n and_o in_o particular_a and_o personal_a duty_n where_o the_o word_n in_o plain_a term_n serve_v not_o he_o speak_v to_o a_o man_n by_o his_o own_o conscience_n and_o by_o the_o voice_n of_o his_o church_n out_o of_o this_o word_n god_n show_v thou_o the_o dignity_n and_o excellency_n of_o this_o call_n 33.23_o to_o be_v a_o minister_n of_o the_o word_n namely_o they_o be_v his_o messenger_n &_o ambassador_n etc._n etc._n that_o so_o he_o may_v win_v they_o to_o love_n and_o affect_v it_o and_o again_o 29.18_o the_o necessicitie_n of_o it_o that_o it_o teach_v the_o way_n to_o salvation_n that_o without_o it_o ordinary_o god_n church_n be_v not_o gather_v nor_o man_n soul_n save_v that_o this_o may_v stir_v thou_o up_o to_o undertake_v the_o burden_n this_o be_v general_a but_o now_o particular_o for_o thyself_o will_v thou_o know_v whether_o god_n will_v have_v thou_o to_o go_v or_o no_o than_o thou_o must_v ask_v thy_o own_o conscience_n and_o ask_v the_o church_n for_o if_o thou_o be_v hearty_o willing_a and_o be_v full_o and_o worthy_o qualify_v than_o god_n bid_v thou_o go_v now_o thy_o conscience_n must_v judge_v of_o thy_o willingness_n and_o the_o church_n of_o thy_o ability_n and_o as_o thou_o may_v not_o trust_v other_o man_n to_o judge_v of_o thy_o inclination_n or_o affection_n so_o thou_o may_v not_o trust_v thy_o own_o judgement_n to_o judge_v of_o thy_o worthiness_n or_o sufficiency_n if_o therefore_o thy_o own_o conscience_n tell_v thou_o upon_o true_a examination_n that_o thou_o do_v not_o love_n and_o affect_v this_o call_n above_o any_o other_o than_o god_n send_v thou_o not_o and_o if_o thou_o enter_v with_o such_o a_o testimony_n not_o god_n but_o some_o worldly_a and_o sinister_a respect_n do_v send_v thou_o and_o put_v thou_o forward_o for_o though_o thou_o do_v desire_v it_o yet_o if_o the_o church_n of_o god_n give_v not_o allowance_n thou_o can_v make_v that_o know_v to_o the_o church_n by_o so_o good_a evidence_n as_o thereupon_o a_o minister_n of_o god_n pronounce_v the_o pardon_n of_o thy_o sin_n unto_o theâ—_n if_o thou_o rest_v herein_o &_o know_v it_o to_o be_v as_o effectual_a as_o if_o god_n from_o heaven_n have_v tell_v thou_o thy_o sin_n be_v pardon_v so_o be_v it_o here_o if_o thou_o have_v the_o testimony_n first_o of_o thy_o conscience_n and_o then_o of_o the_o church_n thou_o be_v to_o rest_v therein_o as_o in_o the_o voice_n of_o god_n and_o this_o be_v the_o call_n that_o we_o be_v to_o look_v for_o in_o these_o day_n by_o which_o doctrine_n as_o those_o be_v just_o condemn_v of_o foul_a presumption_n who_o dare_v run_v upon_o private_a motion_n and_o carnal_a respect_n and_o be_v just_o leave_v without_o blessing_n or_o protection_n so_o they_o on_o the_o other_o side_n do_v offer_v great_a wrong_n to_o god_n and_o to_o his_o church_n who_o when_o they_o can_v deny_v but_o they_o affect_v the_o ministry_n above_o any_o call_n and_o have_v approbation_n of_o their_o gift_n from_o the_o good_a church_n yet_o will_v not_o believe_v the_o testimony_n of_o the_o church_n herein_o but_o their_o own_o private_a judgement_n which_o in_o this_o case_n be_v no_o way_n a_o competent_a judge_n either_o for_o or_o against_o let_v such_o man_n know_v that_o they_o oppose_v themselves_o even_o against_o god_n himself_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o where_o the_o inward_a call_n of_o the_o conscience_n and_o the_o outward_a call_n of_o the_o church_n do_v concur_v there_o god_n himself_o call_v and_o bid_v that_o man_n go_v and_o speak_v now_o then_o to_o draw_v to_o a_o end_n let_v we_o observe_v in_o the_o last_o place_n with_o what_o authority_n a_o minister_n of_o god_n come_v unto_o we_o and_o execute_v his_o function_n even_o with_o a_o immediate_a authority_n &_o commission_n from_o god_n whereby_o he_o be_v bid_v go_v and_o speak_v if_o it_o be_v so_o let_v it_o persuade_v the_o world_n to_o fear_v to_o do_v any_o wrong_n either_o to_o that_o call_n as_o to_o those_o person_n who_o come_v with_o so_o fair_a a_o commission_n from_o god_n himself_o but_o if_o it_o do_v not_o persuade_v the_o profane_a world_n at_o least_o let_v this_o be_v a_o comfort_n &_o encouragement_n to_o all_o true_a minister_n for_o if_o god_n bid_v they_o go_v he_o will_v go_v with_o they_o himself_o if_o he_o send_v they_o he_o will_v not_o forsake_v they_o but_o assist_v they_o and_o bless_v they_o and_o open_v their_o mouth_n and_o enlarge_v their_o heart_n and_o
