trade_n be_v always_o in_o heaven_n but_o now_o there_o be_v other_o sort_n of_o people_n that_o have_v need_n at_o all_o time_n to_o look_v to_o their_o heart_n in_o way_n of_o preparation_n as_o first_o those_o that_o first_o set_v upon_o the_o duty_n of_o religion_n young_a beginner_n that_o begin_v at_o first_o to_o set_v their_o face_n towards_o heaven_n to_o worship_n god_n they_o have_v need_n look_v to_o their_o heart_n they_o shall_v spend_v some_o time_n in_o preparation_n when_o they_o come_v to_o holy_a duty_n and_o the_o truth_n be_v when_o the_o conscience_n of_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n be_v at_o first_o enlighten_v and_o awaken_v they_o will_v be_v very_o careful_a in_o prepare_v to_o holy_a duty_n the_o fear_n of_o god_n it_o be_v mighty_a upon_o their_o spirit_n at_o first_o and_o it_o shall_v not_o be_v less_o afterward_o the_o constancy_n of_o god_n fear_v shall_v bring_v their_o heart_n to_o such_o a_o holy_a temper_n as_o to_o make_v they_o fit_a for_o holy_a duty_n always_o second_o those_o man_n and_o woman_n that_o at_o any_o time_n shall_v sin_v against_o conscience_n shall_v commit_v such_o sin_n as_o shall_v in_o a_o kind_n even_o lie_v waste_a sort_n of_o people_n such_o as_o have_v not_o be_v acquaint_v with_o the_o way_n of_o godliness_n or_o such_o as_o have_v break_v their_o peace_n with_o god_n by_o some_o evil_a carriage_n of_o they_o towards_o god_n in_o some_o vile_a way_n i_o say_v it_o be_v require_v of_o they_o to_o be_v more_o solemn_a in_o the_o work_n of_o preparation_n 2_o but_o now_o for_o the_o second_o case_n which_o indeed_o be_v the_o main_a suppose_v when_o we_o come_v to_o duty_n and_o begin_v to_o examine_v our_o heart_n and_o begin_v to_o bethink_v ourselves_o whether_o we_o be_v prepare_v yea_o or_o no_o to_o holy_a duty_n and_o we_o do_v not_o find_v our_o heart_n prepare_v according_a to_o that_o that_o we_o do_v desire_n whether_o then_o we_o may_v let_v the_o duty_n go_v for_o that_o time_n and_o forbear_v the_o performance_n of_o it_o as_o suppose_v prayer_n or_o receive_v the_o sacrament_n or_o come_v to_o the_o word_n or_o any_o other_o holy_a duty_n and_o the_o reason_n of_o this_o doubt_n be_v because_o when_o any_o man_n or_o woman_n be_v conscientious_a they_o think_v with_o themselves_o that_o they_o must_v sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n now_o if_o they_o can_v find_v their_o heart_n in_o a_o fit_a disposition_n to_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n they_o be_v ready_a to_o think_v thus_o be_v it_o not_o better_a to_o neglect_v his_o duty_n and_o lay_v it_o aside_o for_o the_o present_a will_v god_n accept_v of_o a_o duty_n when_o i_o perform_v it_o and_o be_o not_o fit_a for_o it_o therefore_o for_o the_o answer_n to_o this_o because_o it_o be_v a_o temptatation_n that_o sometime_o carnal_a heart_n have_v and_o they_o be_v ready_a to_o take_v this_o temptation_n and_o willing_a to_o neglect_v the_o duty_n upon_o such_o a_o thought_n as_o this_o that_o they_o be_v not_o prepare_v and_o the_o truth_n be_v they_o be_v more_o glad_a to_o let_v the_o duty_n fall_v than_o they_o be_v sorry_a for_o want_v of_o the_o preparation_n of_o the_o duty_n it_o be_v the_o trouble_n of_o their_o soul_n it_o be_v that_o that_o go_v near_o to_o their_o heart_n when_o they_o think_v with_o themselves_o that_o they_o be_v now_o like_a to_o lose_v a_o duty_n of_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n they_o be_v now_o like_a to_o lose_v their_o communion_n with_o god_n in_o a_o holy_a duty_n they_o even_o look_v upon_o themselves_o in_o a_o evil_a case_n in_o regard_n of_o this_o and_o it_o make_v they_o watchful_a for_o time_n to_o come_v to_o take_v heed_n of_o those_o thing_n that_o have_v put_v they_o in_o such_o a_o unpreparation_n as_o they_o find_v their_o heart_n to_o be_v in_o at_o this_o time_n now_o if_o it_o be_v so_o with_o thou_o it_o be_v a_o good_a sign_n that_o thy_o heart_n may_v be_v upright_o with_o god_n though_o through_o infirmity_n it_o come_v at_o such_o a_o time_n to_o be_v unprepared_a for_o the_o duty_n but_o yet_o suppose_v i_o find_v i_o be_o not_o prepare_v i_o be_o grieve_v and_o trouble_v at_o it_o for_o that_o must_v be_v premise_v whether_o be_v i_o better_a to_o leave_v the_o duty_n for_o this_o time_n than_o to_o fall_v upon_o it_o in_o such_o a_o unpreparation_n as_o this_o be_v now_o for_o the_o answer_n to_o this_o question_n 1_o first_o that_o which_o i_o will_v answer_v to_o it_o be_v this_o the_o omission_n of_o a_o duty_n or_o the_o lay_n of_o a_o duty_n aside_o will_v never_o fit_v the_o soul_n for_o a_o duty_n afterward_o it_o be_v no_o way_n to_o make_v thy_o soul_n more_o fit_a afterward_o because_o thou_o have_v lay_v it_o aside_o now_o for_o the_o present_a do_v but_o observe_v your_o own_o heart_n that_o way_n and_o you_o will_v find_v this_o by_o experience_n such_o a_o time_n you_o have_v be_v buâ—e_a in_o the_o world_n and_o occasion_n have_v hinder_v you_o so_o as_o your_o heart_n be_v out_o of_o temper_n and_o frame_v for_o a_o duty_n you_o lay_v it_o aside_o now_o be_v you_o more_o fâ—t_o the_o next_o day_n if_o you_o do_v neglect_v duty_n in_o the_o morning_n upon_o any_o business_n be_v you_o fit_a to_o perform_v duty_n at_o night_n because_o of_o it_o â—_o you_o will_v not_o find_v it_o to_o be_v so_o the_o forbear_v a_o duty_n now_o will_v not_o make_v the_o soul_n fit_a for_o a_o duty_n afterward_o â—â—erefore_o it_o be_v no_o wisdom_n to_o forbear_v a_o duty_n for_o want_n of_o preparation_n because_o the_o forbearance_n will_v never_o help_v to_o further_a preparation_n but_o will_v make_v the_o soul_n more_o unfit_a for_o duty_n it_o be_v a_o excellent_a speech_n that_o i_o read_v that_o luther_n have_v concern_v himself_o i_o have_v learn_v this_o by_o experience_n that_o the_o often_o i_o do_v omit_v duty_n the_o often_o do_v i_o make_v myself_o the_o more_o unfit_a for_o duty_n and_o cause_n i_o have_v to_o abhor_v myself_o it_o be_v not_o the_o defer_v that_o make_v thou_o the_o more_o fit_a 2_o therefore_o consider_v that_o this_o be_v but_o a_o temptation_n and_o that_o be_v the_o second_o thing_n that_o i_o will_v propound_v to_o those_o that_o shall_v omit_v a_o duty_n because_o they_o be_v not_o prepare_v that_o this_o be_v but_o a_o temptation_n to_o keep_v thou_o from_o it_o to_o tell_v thou_o that_o thou_o be_v not_o prepare_v and_o if_o thou_o shall_v forbear_v it_o because_o thou_o be_v not_o prepare_v in_o this_o thing_n thou_o do_v gratify_v the_o devil_n and_o the_o devil_n have_v what_o he_o will_v have_v and_o so_o will_v be_v encourage_v to_o tempt_v thou_o another_o time_n because_o he_o have_v now_o what_o he_o will_v have_v in_o cause_v thou_o to_o forbear_v the_o duty_n first_o he_o labour_v to_o unfit_a thou_o for_o it_o and_o then_o he_o tempt_v thou_o to_o forbear_v it_o because_o thou_o be_v unfit_a this_o
be_v the_o subtlety_n of_o the_o devil_n from_o whence_o be_v it_o that_o thou_o be_v unfit_a but_o from_o the_o temptation_n of_o the_o devil_n and_o i_o find_v luther_n again_o that_o be_v a_o man_n that_o have_v as_o much_o converse_n with_o god_n as_o any_o in_o his_o day_n and_o a_o man_n that_o have_v as_o much_o to_o draw_v his_o heart_n away_o as_o many_o temptation_n and_o as_o many_o business_n as_o any_o for_o indeed_o the_o great_a cause_n of_o christ_n in_o all_o the_o christian_a world_n in_o a_o great_a measure_n under_o god_n lay_v upon_o his_o shoulder_n and_o yet_o say_v he_o if_o any_o one_o think_v that_o prayer_n must_v be_v defer_v till_o the_o soul_n be_v purify_v from_o impure_a cogitation_n he_o do_v no_o other_o than_o help_v the_o devil_n who_o be_v powerful_a enough_o he_o think_v to_o be_v wise_a in_o defer_v the_o duty_n because_o he_o be_v not_o fit_a and_o he_o have_v many_o ill_a thought_n and_o trouble_n in_o his_o spirit_n he_o do_v nothing_o else_o say_v luther_n but_o gratify_v the_o devil_n that_o be_v strong_a enough_o without_o this_o oh_o let_v we_o take_v heed_n of_o gratify_v the_o devil_n in_o his_o temptation_n therefore_o remember_v it_o be_v a_o temptation_n for_o thou_o to_o omit_v a_o duty_n mere_o because_o thou_o be_v not_o prepare_v â—or_a the_o duty_n 3_o in_o the_o three_o place_n that_o which_o i_o will_v answer_v to_o this_o question_n be_v this_o if_o any_o one_o perform_v a_o duty_n of_o worship_n in_o that_o sincerity_n and_o strength_n that_o he_o be_v able_a to_o do_v it_o though_o he_o be_v not_o prepare_v as_o he_o ought_v yet_o it_o be_v better_a to_o do_v it_o than_o to_o neglect_v it_o it_o be_v true_a some_o do_v perform_v a_o duty_n in_o a_o mere_a formal_a way_n and_o to_o satisfy_v their_o conscience_n or_o to_o cloak_n and_o cover_v their_o sin_n and_o the_o like_a perhaps_o they_o may_v so_o perform_v it_o as_o it_o may_v be_v better_a to_o be_v unperformed_a than_o to_o perform_v it_o as_o they_o do_v but_o if_o you_o do_v endeavour_n to_o the_o uttermost_a of_o your_o strength_n to_o do_v it_o though_o you_o be_v not_o prepare_v as_o you_o do_v desire_n yet_o it_o be_v better_a to_o do_v it_o than_o to_o omit_v the_o do_n of_o it_o and_o you_o will_v find_v it_o so_o for_o one_o duty_n do_v prepare_v for_o another_o though_o it_o be_v not_o do_v as_o i_o desire_v it_o shall_v be_v do_v yet_o the_o do_v of_o it_o as_o well_o as_o i_o can_v at_o this_o time_n will_v help_v i_o to_o do_v it_o better_o at_o another_o time_n that_o be_v certain_a as_o one_o sin_n do_v prepare_v the_o heart_n for_o another_o sin_n so_o one_o duty_n prepare_v the_o heart_n for_o another_o as_o now_o suppose_v a_o man_n commit_v a_o sin_n and_o he_o have_v a_o conscience_n that_o be_v enlighten_v that_o do_v hinder_v he_o from_o commit_v his_o sin_n with_o that_o full_a strength_n that_o he_o will_v do_v it_o many_o a_o man_n have_v a_o mind_n to_o sin_v but_o through_o the_o enlighten_v of_o his_o conscience_n he_o can_v sin_v with_o that_o delight_n as_o he_o will_v because_o his_o conscience_n fly_v in_o his_o face_n and_o do_v interrupt_v he_o but_o yet_o for_o all_o this_o through_o the_o strength_n of_o his_o corruption_n he_o will_v break_v through_o to_o that_o sin_n new_a though_o at_o first_o they_o can_v commit_v that_o sin_n with_o that_o delight_n and_o freedom_n as_o they_o do_v at_o other_o time_n yet_o if_o their_o corruption_n be_v so_o strong_a as_o to_o break_v through_o the_o light_n of_o their_o conscience_n the_o next_o time_n they_o come_v to_o the_o commit_n of_o that_o sin_n they_o will_v commit_v it_o with_o more_o freedom_n and_o ease_v a_o great_a deal_n this_o be_v evident_a by_o experience_n there_o be_v none_o of_o you_o but_o if_o you_o well_o observe_v your_o heart_n you_o will_v find_v this_o a_o temptation_n come_v to_o a_o sin_n now_o you_o can_v do_v it_o with_o so_o much_o freedom_n as_o you_o will_v but_o yet_o you_o break_v through_o it_o you_o will_v find_v that_o the_o next_o time_n you_o will_v commit_v it_o with_o more_o freedom_n and_o so_o one_o sin_n will_v prepare_v for_o another_o and_o it_o may_v be_v you_o have_v some_o trouble_n of_o conscience_n at_o first_o but_o the_o next_o time_n you_o will_v have_v less_o trouble_n till_o at_o length_n you_o can_v commit_v it_o free_o without_o any_o trouble_n of_o conscience_n at_o all_o as_o it_o be_v in_o sin_n so_o it_o be_v in_o godliness_n many_o time_n in_o some_o degree_n at_o the_o f_z r_v you_o have_v a_o motion_n to_o a_o holy_a duty_n but_o through_o the_o stir_n of_o your_o corruption_n you_o be_v not_o fit_a for_o it_o now_o do_v you_o but_o break_v through_o that_o difficulty_n and_o the_o next_o time_n you_o will_v be_v more_o fit_a and_o the_o next_o time_n after_o that_o you_o will_v be_v more_o fit_a and_o so_o still_o more_o and_o more_o fit_a as_o it_o be_v in_o sin_n if_o a_o man_n when_o he_o have_v some_o trouble_n of_o conscience_n will_v but_o listen_v to_o his_o conscience_n and_o will_v not_o commit_v that_o sin_n his_o conscience_n will_v grow_v strong_a upon_o he_o and_o strengthen_v he_o against_o that_o sin_n so_o if_o any_o man_n or_o woman_n listen_v to_o the_o temp_n aâ—ion_n to_o defer_v duty_n and_o put_v it_o off_o because_o they_o be_v not_o prepare_v why_o after_o that_o the_o corruption_n will_v grow_v more_o strong_a therefore_o set_v upon_o the_o duty_n and_o the_o performance_n of_o one_o duty_n will_v prepare_v for_o another_o 4_o in_o the_o four_o place_n while_o man_n and_o woman_n be_v struggle_v with_o their_o soul_n and_o the_o corruption_n of_o their_o heart_n and_o do_v not_o fall_v upon_o seek_v god_n they_o by_o their_o very_a struggle_v to_o prepare_v themselves_o many_o time_n do_v ensnare_v themselves_o it_o may_v be_v thou_o have_v thought_n of_o atheism_n or_o other_o wickedness_n the_o very_a struggle_v with_o those_o thought_n may_v ensnare_v thy_o heart_n now_o the_o better_a way_n be_v to_o fall_v upon_o prayer_n and_o to_o cry_v to_o god_n to_o help_v thou_o against_o they_o for_o while_o thou_o be_v struggle_v and_o strive_v with_o those_o thought_n thou_o be_v strive_v with_o the_o corruption_n of_o thy_o heart_n and_o with_o the_o devil_n all_o alone_a but_o now_o when_o thou_o fall_v to_o the_o duty_n thou_o call_v in_o the_o help_n of_o god_n and_o of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o that_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n better_o while_o thou_o be_v muse_v plod_a and_o trouble_v thy_o heart_n that_o way_n i_o say_v thou_o be_v struggle_v alone_o but_o now_o when_o thou_o fall_v upon_o the_o duty_n than_o thou_o call_v in_o help_n from_o god_n and_o so_o thou_o be_v more_o able_a to_o the_o performance_n of_o the_o duty_n than_o than_o be_v before_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v the_o best_a way_n to_o fall_v upon_o a_o duty_n though_o thou_o can_v not_o find_v thy_o heart_n prepare_v as_o thou_o do_v desire_v the_o very_a fall_n upon_o it_o will_v sit_v thou_o for_o it_o and_o thus_o much_o for_o the_o answer_n unto_o those_o two_o case_n of_o conscience_n now_o than_o we_o be_v to_o proceed_v further_o in_o the_o open_n of_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n thus_o much_o for_o the_o preparation_n of_o the_o heart_n but_o when_o the_o heart_n come_v to_o it_o in_o what_o manner_n shall_v the_o duty_n be_v perform_v so_o as_o the_o name_n of_o god_n may_v be_v sanctify_v in_o the_o duty_n or_o what_o be_v the_o behaviour_n of_o the_o soul_n in_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n when_o it_o be_v in_o the_o very_a act_n of_o the_o duty_n to_o that_o i_o answer_v first_o in_o general_a thus_o when_o the_o soul_n labour_v to_o perform_v duty_n so_o as_o god_n may_v have_v such_o glory_n from_o the_o duty_n as_o be_v sit_v for_o a_o god_n to_o have_v in_o some_o measure_n then_o do_v i_o sanctify_v god_n name_n you_o will_v say_v this_o be_v a_o very_a hard_a thing_n to_o perform_v a_o duty_n so_o as_o that_o we_o shall_v give_v god_n the_o glory_n that_o be_v fit_a for_o a_o god_n to_o have_v certain_o this_o be_v not_o do_v by_o every_o manner_n of_o performance_n of_o a_o duty_n of_o worship_n yet_o you_o shall_v hear_v this_o open_v to_o you_o and_o i_o hope_v you_o shall_v have_v it_o make_v very_o plain_a before_o you_o first_o therefore_o i_o shall_v show_v you_o that_o when_o we_o be_v to_o perform_v a_o duty_n of_o worship_n we_o shall_v set_v ourselves_o to_o glorify_v god_n as_o a_o god_n that_o be_v to_o do_v it_o in_o that_o manner_n that_o god_n may_v have_v that_o glory_n that_o be_v fit_a for_o a_o

though_o you_o be_v wicked_a and_o sinful_a yet_o if_o you_o amend_v your_o life_n god_n will_v accept_v of_o you_o you_o go_v that_o way_n to_o work_v but_o certain_o that_o be_v the_o wrong_a way_n you_o must_v first_o look_v after_o mean_n of_o acception_n of_o your_o person_n which_o be_v through_o the_o righteousness_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o through_o the_o sanctification_n ot_fw-mi we_o be_v spiritual_a now_o then_o look_v as_o a_o godly_a man_n be_v not_o satisfy_v with_o enjoy_v any_o good_a thing_n from_o god_n except_o he_o know_v it_o come_v from_o a_o principle_n of_o perhaps_o the_o word_n may_v be_v fine_a and_o brave_a but_o if_o there_o be_v a_o unclean_a heart_n the_o duty_n will_v be_v unclean_a as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o man_n that_o have_v the_o plague_n suppose_v he_o make_v a_o brave_a oration_n yet_o his_o breath_n be_v infectious_a so_o it_o be_v in_o our_o service_n with_o god_n if_o so_o be_v that_o our_o heart_n within_o we_o have_v the_o plague_n then_o certain_o the_o breath_n that_o come_v from_o we_o all_o our_o duty_n will_v be_v unclean_a and_o therefore_o that_o be_v the_o first_o thing_n that_o we_o be_v to_o look_v for_o in_o the_o sanctify_a god_n name_v in_o holy_a duty_n look_v to_o have_v thy_o heart_n sanctify_v and_o consider_v from_o what_o principle_n it_o come_v it_o be_v for_o want_n of_o this_o that_o thousand_o of_o our_o duty_n be_v cast_v aside_o and_o god_n never_o do_v regard_v they_o but_o this_o be_v the_o first_o particular_a there_o be_v many_o more_o to_o speak_v of_o sermon_n v._n leviticus_n another_o manner_n of_o communion_n which_o my_o soul_n can_v have_v with_o himself_o in_o which_o it_o have_v sweet_a satisfaction_n and_o thus_o you_o have_v have_v seven_o particular_n for_o the_o duty_n 5_o further_n a_o natural_a conscience_n limit_n its_o self_n and_o be_v bound_v that_o be_v so_o much_o as_o will_v serve_v the_o turn_n for_o it_o be_v own_o peace_n and_o quiet_a so_o much_o it_o will_v do_v and_o no_o more_o but_o when_o one_o be_v act_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n one_o be_v enlarge_v without_o any_o limit_n at_o all_o not_o bound_v to_o one_o own_o peace_n for_o soul_n and_o to_o make_v it_o fall_v off_o oh_o no_o as_o we_o say_v the_o last_o day_n there_o be_v not_o any_o one_o thing_n that_o have_v be_v open_v for_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n in_o duty_n that_o any_o gracious_a heart_n can_v tell_v how_o to_o miss_v and_o the_o more_o we_o do_v sanctify_v his_o name_n the_o more_o we_o shall_v be_v in_o love_n with_o worship_n for_o it_o be_v from_o hence_o that_o those_o that_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o worship_n will_v hold_v out_o because_o they_o will_v find_v the_o sweetness_n of_o worship_n they_o will_v meet_v with_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n and_o so_o they_o come_v to_o be_v encourage_v in_o worship_n but_o as_o for_o other_o who_o do_v worship_n god_n in_o a_o formal_a way_n their_o worship_n will_v prove_v to_o be_v tedious_a to_o they_o for_o they_o perform_v the_o duty_n but_o do_v not_o find_v god_n in_o the_o duty_n in_o that_o spiritual_a way_n as_o the_o saint_n do_v if_o they_o think_v they_o meet_v with_o god_n it_o be_v but_o a_o imagination_n rather_o than_o any_o real_a meeting_n with_o he_o they_o do_v not_o find_v the_o influence_n of_o god_n in_o their_o soul_n in_o holy_a duty_n so_o as_o those_o do_v that_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n here_o than_o you_o see_v the_o reason_n why_o we_o be_v to_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n now_o then_o for_o the_o application_n of_o all_o this_o 1_o if_o all_o this_o which_o you_o have_v hear_v be_v require_v of_o we_o for_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n hence_o we_o see_v how_o little_a cause_n we_o have_v to_o rest_v upon_o any_o duty_n of_o worship_n that_o we_o do_v perform_v certain_o the_o duty_n of_o worship_n that_o we_o perform_v be_v no_o such_o thing_n as_o be_v fit_a to_o be_v rest_v upon_o for_o life_n and_o for_o salvation_n and_o yet_o for_o the_o most_o part_n there_o be_v scarce_o any_o thing_n that_o people_n have_v to_o rest_v upon_o or_o to_o tender_v up_o to_o god_n for_o acception_n to_o eternal_a life_n but_o only_o their_o prayer_n and_o their_o come_n to_o hear_v and_o receive_v of_o the_o communion_n and_o such_o duty_n that_o they_o perform_v this_o be_v all_o they_o have_v to_o tender_v up_o for_o life_n and_o for_o salvation_n perhaps_o they_o may_v sometime_o speak_v of_o christ_n but_o the_o truth_n be_v that_o which_o their_o heart_n rest_v upon_o for_o acceptation_n to_o eternal_a life_n be_v this_o and_o be_v it_o but_o this_o it_o be_v a_o weak_a prop_n a_o rot_a reed_n that_o thou_o have_v to_o rest_v upon_o let_v the_o duty_n of_o worship_n be_v perform_v never_o so_o well_o suppose_v we_o do_v sanctify_v god_n name_n to_o the_o uttermost_a that_o be_v possible_a for_o any_o creature_n to_o do_v in_o this_o world_n yet_o such_o duty_n be_v not_o to_o be_v rest_v upon_o abraham_n isaac_n and_o jacob_n and_o the_o apostle_n the_o most_o holy_a man_n that_o ever_o do_v perform_v duty_n in_o the_o most_o holy_a manner_n yet_o woe_n to_o they_o if_o they_o have_v nothing_o to_o rest_v upon_o but_o their_o duty_n consider_v therefore_o of_o this_o that_o what_o thou_o must_v rest_v upon_o for_o acceptation_n to_o eternal_a life_n it_o must_v be_v that_o that_o must_v have_v so_o much_o worth_n in_o it_o as_o must_v satisfy_v for_o all_o thy_o sin_n that_o former_o thou_o have_v commit_v yea_o and_o for_o all_o the_o sin_n that_o ever_o thou_o shall_v commit_v now_o i_o appeal_v unto_o any_o one_o conscience_n be_v that_o which_o thou_o perform_v as_o prayer_n or_o receive_v the_o sacrament_n or_o hear_v of_o the_o word_n such_o a_o work_n as_o in_o thy_o conscience_n thou_o can_v think_v it_o have_v so_o much_o worth_n in_o it_o as_o to_o satisfy_v god_n for_o all_o the_o sin_n that_o ever_o thou_o do_v or_o shall_v commit_v i_o be_o persuade_v if_o people_n that_o have_v rest_v upon_o duty_n heretofore_o will_v but_o serious_o have_v this_o thought_n in_o their_o mind_n that_o i_o must_v rest_v upon_o nothing_o for_o my_o acceptation_n for_o life_n and_o salvation_n but_o that_o that_o must_v have_v such_o worth_n in_o it_o as_o to_o satisfy_v god_n for_o all_o my_o sin_n that_o ever_o have_v be_v commit_v or_o shall_v be_v commit_v this_o will_v take_v they_o off_o for_o ever_o from_o rest_v in_o duty_n yea_o and_o it_o must_v be_v such_o as_o must_v be_v the_o object_n of_o the_o infinite_a holiness_n of_o god_n to_o take_v content_a in_o sure_o the_o duty_n that_o we_o perform_v be_v no_o such_o duty_n to_o rest_n upon_o the_o truth_n be_v if_o we_o will_v serious_o consider_v what_o they_o be_v as_o they_o come_v from_o we_o we_o will_v even_o abhor_v ourselves_o in_o dust_n and_o ash_n and_o account_v of_o they_o as_o the_o prophet_n speak_v of_o his_o own_o righteousness_n as_o menstruous_a clothes_n they_o be_v such_o as_o if_o god_n shall_v deal_v with_o we_o as_o just_o he_o may_v do_v he_o may_v cast_v they_o and_o we_o to_o the_o dog_n for_o they_o holy_a duty_n many_o people_n think_v it_o a_o very_a easy_a matter_n to_o worship_n god_n and_o the_o worship_n that_o they_o tender_v up_o to_o god_n be_v a_o easy_a matter_n there_o be_v little_a in_o it_o if_o it_o be_v nothing_o else_o to_o worship_n god_n but_o mere_o to_o go_v and_o say_v a_o few_o prayer_n and_o come_v and_o hear_v a_o sermon_n and_o take_v a_o piece_n of_o bread_n and_o wine_n than_o it_o be_v the_o easy_a matter_n in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v and_o worship_n god_n but_o there_o be_v more_o require_v in_o the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n than_o thou_o have_v be_v acquaint_v with_o there_o be_v a_o power_n of_o godliness_n in_o it_o that_o text_n of_o scripture_n be_v a_o very_a famous_a one_o that_o show_v the_o difficulty_n that_o there_o be_v in_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n and_o how_o man_n be_v mistake_v in_o think_v it_o such_o a_o easy_a and_o slight_a matter_n to_o worship_n god_n it_o be_v in_o josh_n 24.16.19_o where_o joshua_n do_v call_v sanctify_a the_o name_n of_o god_n how_o far_o have_v we_o all_o come_v short_a of_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n and_o when_o we_o look_v abroad_o in_o the_o world_n and_o see_v what_o poor_a service_n god_n have_v general_o from_o the_o man_n and_o woman_n of_o the_o earth_n it_o shall_v make_v our_o heart_n bleed_v within_o we_o where_o almost_o be_v the_o man_n or_o woman_n that_o according_a to_o that_o text_n in_o isa_n stir_v up_o himself_o to_o take_v hold_n on_o god_n and_o i_o very_o believe_v that_o in_o the_o open_n of_o this_o point_n of_o sanctify_v and_o thou_o shall_v put_v it_o under_o the_o compass_n of_o the_o altar_n beneath_o that_o the_o net_n may_v be_v even_o to_o the_o midst_n of_o the_o altar_n there_o be_v as_o it_o be_v a_o grate_n for_o the_o ash_n of_o the_o altar_n to_o go_v through_o as_o you_o have_v grate_n in_o your_o fire_n to_o make_v they_o burn_v clear_a and_o for_o the_o ash_n to_o fall_v down_o so_o the_o lord_n will_v have_v such_o a_o grate_n for_o the_o ash_n of_o the_o altar_n to_o fall_v down_o we_o have_v need_n of_o such_o a_o grate_n oh_o the_o ash_n and_o dirt_n and_o filth_n that_o there_o be_v in_o our_o service_n when_o we_o come_v to_o offer_v and_o tender_v they_o up_o to_o god_n so_o that_o we_o have_v cause_n i_o say_v to_o to_o be_v humble_v for_o holy_a offering_n there_o be_v many_o godly_a people_n that_o through_o god_n mercy_n be_v able_a to_o keep_v from_o gross_a sin_n they_o do_v not_o find_v it_o any_o great_a matter_n to_o keep_v from_o company_n swear_v drink_v uncleanness_n lie_v or_o wrong_v of_o other_o and_o such_o kind_n of_o sin_n as_o those_o be_v so_o that_o they_o see_v not_o such_o need_n of_o humiliation_n in_o this_o regard_n unless_o it_o be_v for_o that_o their_o nature_n be_v as_o corrupt_v as_o any_o though_o they_o break_v not_o forth_o into_o those_o actual_a gross_a sin_n but_o the_o main_a work_n of_o the_o humiliation_n of_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a it_o be_v to_o be_v humble_v for_o their_o thought_n for_o the_o mispending_a of_o time_n and_o for_o not_o sanctify_v of_o god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n those_o be_v the_o main_a thing_n that_o be_v the_o subject_n of_o the_o humiliation_n of_o the_o saint_n beside_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n and_o death_n that_o they_o carry_v about_o with_o they_o and_o it_o will_v be_v a_o good_a sign_n that_o thy_o heart_n have_v some_o tenderness_n in_o it_o when_o thou_o make_v these_o to_o be_v the_o matter_n of_o thy_o humiliation_n carnal_a people_n little_a be_v trouble_v for_o these_o if_o they_o fall_v into_o such_o sin_n as_o that_o their_o conscience_n do_v fly_v in_o their_o face_n than_o they_o be_v trouble_v and_o humble_v but_o for_o such_o thing_n as_o these_o be_v they_o be_v seldom_o humble_v to_o be_v humle_v for_o thy_o holy_a offering_n be_v a_o good_a sign_n of_o a_o gracious_a heart_n we_o read_v of_o the_o cherubim_n that_o they_o have_v six_o wing_n and_o with_o two_o of_o their_o wing_n the_o text_n say_v they_o cover_v their_o face_n so_o my_o brethren_n we_o have_v need_n have_v wing_n as_o it_o be_v to_o cover_v our_o best_a duty_n they_o have_v wing_n and_o with_o two_o they_o cover_v their_o leg_n and_o with_o two_o their_o face_n we_o have_v need_v not_o only_o of_o a_o cover_n for_o our_o low_a part_n and_o mean_a duty_n but_o a_o cover_n for_o our_o holy_a duty_n to_o cover_v our_o face_n our_o best_a duty_n of_o all_o the_o most_o heavenly_a duty_n we_o perform_v have_v need_n be_v purge_v by_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n in_o levit._n 16.14.16_o we_o read_v of_o their_o holy_a thing_n that_o there_o be_v need_n of_o purge_v of_o they_o by_o blood_n and_o so_o it_o shall_v be_v in_o our_o holy_a duty_n let_v we_o be_v humble_v for_o our_o best_a performance_n that_o ever_o we_o perform_v in_o our_o life_n the_o best_a have_v need_n be_v so_o but_o then_o as_o for_o other_o that_o have_v make_v little_a or_o no_o conscience_n of_o sanctify_v
that_o be_v sacrifice_v in_o the_o temple_n when_o pompey_n break_v in_o to_o they_o with_o arm_a man_n and_o though_o they_o may_v have_v flee_v and_o save_v their_o life_n yet_o they_o will_v not_o leave_v off_o their_o sacrifice_v but_o be_v slay_v by_o the_o soldier_n they_o do_v so_o mind_n it_o as_o a_o matter_n of_o great_a consequence_n oh_o that_o we_o can_v mind_v the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n as_o matter_n of_o great_a moment_n that_o so_o we_o may_v learn_v to_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o the_o performance_n of_o they_o more_o than_o ever_o we_o have_v do_v 2_o when_o thou_o come_v to_o worship_n take_v heed_n thou_o do_v not_o come_v in_o thy_o own_o strength_n for_o there_o be_v more_o require_v in_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n than_o thy_o strength_n be_v able_a to_o carry_v thou_o on_o in_o and_o therefore_o act_v thy_o faith_n upon_o jesus_n christ_n every_o time_n thou_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n not_o only_o as_o i_o say_v before_o to_o tender_v up_o thy_o service_n in_o his_o name_n but_o act_v thy_o faith_n upon_o christ_n to_o give_v thou_o strength_n to_o do_v what_o thou_o have_v to_o do_v and_o what_o strength_n thou_o have_v receive_v from_o christ_n be_v sure_a to_o stir_v it_o up_o many_o godly_a man_n and_o woman_n have_v more_o strength_n than_o they_o know_v of_o themselves_o &_o if_o they_o will_v but_o stir_v up_o that_o strength_n that_o they_o have_v receive_v they_o may_v sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n a_o great_a deal_n more_o than_o they_o do_v therefore_o remember_v that_o text_n before_o mention_v none_o stir_v up_o himself_o to_o take_v hold_n on_o god_n quicken_v up_o thy_o heart_n and_o rouse_v up_o thy_o spirit_n when_o thou_o be_v to_o worship_n god_n 3_o when_o ever_o thou_o be_v worship_v of_o god_n do_v not_o satisfy_v thyself_o mere_o in_o the_o duty_n do_v but_o consider_v do_v i_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o the_o duty_n every_o time_n thou_o worship_v he_o examine_v thy_o heart_n whether_o thou_o do_v it_o yea_o or_o no._n and_o if_o thou_o find_v that_o thou_o have_v not_o attain_v in_o some_o comfortable_a measure_n to_o this_o that_o have_v be_v present_v to_o thou_o let_v the_o shame_n and_o the_o sorrow_n for_o that_o abide_v upon_o thy_o spirit_n until_o the_o next_o time_n thou_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n at_o such_o a_o time_n i_o have_v be_v worship_v of_o god_n and_o god_n know_v i_o have_v be_v stir_v up_o my_o heart_n in_o some_o measure_n but_o i_o find_v my_o heart_n dead_a wander_a sluggish_a and_o dull_a i_o say_v when_o thou_o find_v thou_o can_v not_o do_v it_o according_a to_o what_o be_v require_v in_o any_o comfortable_a measure_n let_v the_o shame_n and_o sorrow_n of_o heart_n for_o it_o abide_v upon_o thou_o till_o the_o next_o time_n thou_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n and_o that_o will_v mighty_o help_v thoee_o thou_o be_v now_o pray_v and_o thou_o can_v not_o now_o get_v up_o thy_o heart_n to_o what_o be_v require_v the_o next_o time_n thou_o come_v to_o prayer_n come_v in_o the_o shame_n and_o sorrow_n of_o thy_o heart_n for_o the_o want_n of_o sanctify_a god_n name_v the_o last_o time_n and_o so_o for_o hear_v of_o the_o word_n or_o receive_v the_o sacrament_n and_o this_o will_v further_o thou_o mighty_o for_o the_o sanctify_a the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n but_o now_o that_o all_o may_v be_v seal_v up_o unto_o you_o and_o so_o that_o we_o may_v close_v the_o point_n know_v that_o god_n will_v be_v sanctify_v in_o those_o that_o do_v draw_v nigh_o to_o he_o and_o there_o be_v these_o two_o thing_n in_o the_o point_n first_o if_o we_o do_v not_o sanctify_v god_n name_n god_n will_v sanctify_v his_o name_n in_o a_o way_n of_o justice_n second_o if_o we_o do_v sanctify_v his_o name_n than_o he_o will_v sanctify_v his_o name_n in_o a_o way_n of_o mercy_n towards_o we_o for_o the_o first_o god_n will_v manifest_v that_o he_o be_v displease_v with_o such_o duty_n that_o thou_o do_v perform_v he_o will_v manifest_v it_o one_o way_n or_o other_o that_o he_o be_v a_o holy_a god_n and_o he_o do_v not_o accept_v of_o such_o unholy_a thing_n as_o thou_o do_v tender_a up_o to_o he_o for_o the_o truth_n be_v if_o god_n shall_v accept_v of_o such_o unholy_a thing_n from_o man_n god_n may_v be_v say_v to_o be_v like_a unto_o themselves_o as_o a_o man_n if_o he_o do_v entertain_v any_o as_o his_o familiar_a friend_n that_o be_v naught_o and_o wicked_a it_o be_v his_o disgrace_n and_o dishonour_n a_o man_n may_v sometime_o employ_v in_o some_o business_n those_o that_o be_v naught_o and_o wicked_a and_o it_o may_v be_v no_o disgrace_n to_o he_o but_o if_o he_o do_v entertain_v one_o in_o his_o house_n that_o be_v wicked_a it_o be_v a_o dishonour_n to_o he_o so_o god_n may_v employ_v the_o most_o wicked_a man_n in_o the_o world_n in_o some_o outward_a service_n but_o if_o he_o shall_v accept_v of_o they_o in_o his_o worship_n it_o will_v be_v a_o dishonour_n to_o god_n and_o therefore_o god_n that_o he_o may_v sanctify_v his_o own_o name_n he_o will_v manifest_v his_o displeasure_n at_o one_o time_n or_o other_o against_o such_o duty_n of_o worship_n you_o that_o perform_v worship_n in_o a_o formal_a manner_n and_o with_o unclean_a vile_a heart_n i_o say_v it_o stand_v upon_o the_o honour_n of_o god_n if_o he_o will_v manifest_v himself_o a_o holy_a god_n he_o must_v manifest_v some_o dipleasure_n against_o that_o way_n of_o thy_o worship_v of_o he_o this_o one_o meditation_n one_o will_v think_v shall_v mighty_o sink_v into_o the_o heart_n of_o any_o man_n that_o have_v a_o enlighten_v conscience_n to_o think_v thus_o it_o stand_v upon_o the_o holiness_n of_o god_n and_o he_o can_v appear_v to_o be_v a_o holy_a god_n except_o he_o do_v some_o way_n or_o other_o appear_v to_o be_v against_o i_o in_o such_o duty_n that_o i_o tender_v up_o unto_o he_o now_o you_o will_v say_v how_o do_v god_n appear_v that_o he_o do_v not_o accept_v of_o they_o he_o will_v appear_v in_o these_o three_o thing_n 1_o first_o by_o blast_v those_o that_o do_v worship_n he_o thus_o in_o a_o formal_a way_n it_o shall_v at_o first_o be_v secret_a but_o afterward_o it_o will_v appear_v more_o apparent_o and_o we_o see_v it_o by_o experience_n that_o such_o as_o have_v be_v professor_n of_o religion_n and_o worship_n god_n in_o hypocrisy_n and_o in_o formality_n they_o have_v be_v blast_v in_o their_o part_n and_o common_a gift_n the_o judgement_n of_o god_n upon_o nadab_n and_o abihu_n that_o do_v not_o sanctify_v god_n name_v it_o be_v secret_a at_o first_o it_o strike_v they_o dead_a and_o though_o by_o fire_n yet_o if_o you_o read_v the_o story_n you_o shall_v find_v that_o their_o clothes_n be_v not_o burn_v and_o yet_o they_o be_v burn_v in_o their_o body_n so_o the_o lord_n sometime_o do_v blast_v man_n inward_o in_o their_o spirit_n in_o their_o soul_n in_o their_o part_n in_o their_o common_a gift_n he_o blast_v they_o i_o say_v inward_o though_o it_o do_v not_o appear_v outward_o yet_o at_o length_n it_o will_v appear_v before_o man_n that_o they_o be_v blast_v and_o in_o these_o time_n of_o the_o gospel_n the_o lord_n do_v come_v with_o spiritual_a judgement_n rather_o than_o with_o outward_a temporal_a judgement_n in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o law_n those_o that_o do_v not_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n the_o lord_n do_v appear_v by_o some_o external_a and_o visible_a way_n upon_o their_o body_n but_o now_o in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o gospel_n there_o god_n come_v with_o more_o spiritual_a judgement_n upon_o man_n soul_n and_o those_o be_v the_o most_o terrible_a judgement_n we_o have_v a_o notable_a scripture_n for_o this_o in_o isa_n 29.13_o how_o god_n do_v blast_v those_o that_o do_v not_o sanctify_v his_o name_n in_o holy_a duty_n wherefore_o the_o lord_n say_v forasmuch_o as_o this_o people_n draw_v near_o i_o with_o their_o mouth_n and_o with_o their_o lip_n do_v honour_n i_o but_o have_v remove_v their_o heart_n far_o from_o i_o and_o their_o fear_n towards_o i_o be_v teach_v by_o the_o precept_n of_o man_n mark_v what_o follow_v therefore_o behold_v i_o will_v proceed_v to_o do_v a_o marvellous_a work_n among_o this_o people_n even_o a_o marvellous_a work_n and_o a_o wonder_n for_o the_o wisdom_n of_o their_o wise_a man_n shall_v perish_v and_o the_o understanding_n of_o their_o prudent_a man_n shall_v be_v hide_v what_o do_v they_o come_v and_o draw_v near_o i_o with_o their_o lip_n and_o their_o heart_n these_o outward_a element_n of_o the_o bread_n and_o wine_n and_o the_o action_n thereof_o now_o when_o we_o come_v to_o eat_v and_o to_o drink_v those_o thing_n that_o be_v appoint_v to_o set_v forth_o the_o great_a mystery_n of_o salvation_n and_o the_o deep_a of_o the_o counsel_n of_o god_n concern_v man_n eternal_a good_a wherein_o especial_o god_n will_v glorify_v himself_o we_o have_v need_v there_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n for_o the_o thing_n be_v very_o great_a and_o glorious_a that_o be_v present_v unto_o we_o 2._o this_o ordinance_n of_o the_o lord_n supper_n or_o the_o communion_n it_o be_v a_o ordinance_n that_o christ_n have_v leave_v to_o his_o church_n out_o of_o the_o abundance_n of_o his_o love_n and_o therefore_o you_o shall_v find_v if_o you_o read_v the_o institution_n of_o it_o in_o the_o 23._o of_o matth._n that_o the_o same_o night_n wherein_o christ_n be_v betray_v he_o take_v bread_n and_o break_v it_o though_o christ_n be_v to_o die_v the_o next_o day_n and_o to_o encounter_v with_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n yea_o that_o very_a night_n he_o be_v to_o be_v in_o a_o agony_n and_o to_o sweat_v drop_n of_o water_n and_o blood_n and_o the_o next_o day_n to_o die_v and_o to_o have_v these_o trial_n of_o wrath_n pour_v upon_o he_o so_o as_o to_o put_v he_o to_o cry_v out_o my_o god_n my_o god_n why_o have_v thou_o forsake_v i_o yet_o he_o busy_v his_o thought_n that_o very_a night_n to_o institute_v this_o supper_n sure_o it_o must_v be_v a_o great_a ordinance_n and_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o love_n of_o christ_n in_o it_o christ_n see_v that_o his_o church_n have_v need_n of_o it_o that_o he_o shall_v that_o night_n when_o he_o be_v betray_v have_v his_o thought_n busy_v about_o such_o a_o thing_n as_o this_o be_v one_o will_v think_v at_o that_o time_n that_o he_o have_v enough_o to_o take_v up_o his_o thought_n concern_v himself_o be_v to_o encounter_v with_o the_o law_n and_o with_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n for_o man_n sin_n but_o for_o all_o that_o great_a work_n christ_n have_v to_o encounter_v with_o yet_o his_o thought_n be_v busy_v about_o this_o great_a ordinance_n of_o the_o institution_n of_o the_o supper_n and_o therefore_o there_o be_v great_a love_n in_o it_o christ_n see_v that_o it_o be_v a_o matter_n of_o great_a moment_n now_o if_o it_o be_v so_o then_o there_o be_v great_a cause_n why_o we_o shall_v sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o such_o a_o ordinance_n as_o this_o be_v and_o not_o to_o account_v it_o as_o a_o common_a and_o ordinary_a thing_n 3._o we_o must_v sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o this_o because_o it_o be_v the_o sacrament_n of_o our_o communion_n with_o christ_n wherein_o we_o come_v to_o have_v such_o a_o near_a union_n and_o communion_n with_o he_o as_o to_o eat_v his_o flesh_n and_o to_o drink_v his_o blood_n and_o to_o sit_v at_o his_o table_n we_o come_v to_o have_v communion_n with_o christ_n even_o in_o all_o our_o sense_n now_o christ_n come_v so_o full_o to_o we_o that_o call_v upon_o we_o to_o sanctify_v his_o name_n when_o we_o come_v before_o he_o 4_o in_o this_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n be_v seal_v the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n come_v to_o be_v seal_v in_o both_o the_o part_n of_o it_o now_o when_o we_o come_v to_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o the_o way_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n both_o to_o have_v the_o seal_n on_o his_o part_n and_o the_o seal_n on_o we_o sure_o this_o must_v needs_o call_v for_o a_o sanctify_v use_n of_o such_o a_o thing_n as_o be_v so_o holy_a as_o this_o be_v and_o that_o be_v the_o first_o reason_n why_o we_o be_v to_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o this_o because_o if_o we_o be_v in_o ordinary_a eat_n &_o drink_v we_o must_v do_v it_o then_o in_o this_o wherein_o there_o be_v so_o much_o of_o god_n wherein_o the_o mystery_n of_o godliness_n be_v set_v before_o we_o wherein_o there_o be_v so_o much_o of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n wherein_o we_o be_v to_o have_v close_a communion_n with_o jesus_n christ_n and_o wherein_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n come_v to_o be_v seal_v on_o both_o side_n there_o have_v need_v therefore_o be_v sanctify_v of_o god_n name_n in_o the_o use_n of_o it_o second_o consider_v this_o that_o there_o be_v no_o duty_n in_o all_o the_o book_n of_o god_n that_o i_o know_v of_o that_o be_v urge_v with_o more_o strength_n and_o severity_n than_o this_o be_v as_o that_o place_n in_o 1_o cor._n 11._o show_v where_o you_o have_v require_v of_o every_o one_o that_o come_v to_o receive_v the_o bread_n and_o wine_n in_o the_o lord_n supper_n that_o they_o shall_v examine_v themselves_o and_o so_o eat_v and_o you_o have_v the_o most_o dreadful_a expression_n against_o those_o that_o do_v not_o do_v it_o that_o i_o know_v be_v mention_v against_o the_o neglect_n of_o any_o duty_n in_o all_o the_o book_n of_o god_n there_o the_o holy_a ghost_n say_v that_o whosoever_o eat_v and_o drink_v unworthy_o first_o he_o be_v guilty_a of_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n and_o then_o second_o he_o eat_v and_o drink_v his_o own_o damnation_n these_o two_o expression_n have_v as_o much_o dreadfulness_n in_o they_o as_o can_v be_v imagine_v and_o we_o do_v not_o find_v a_o exhortation_n to_o a_o duty_n back_v with_o two_o such_o severe_a expression_n in_o case_n we_o shall_v neglect_v our_o duty_n as_o this_o exhortation_n what_o if_o we_o do_v not_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o this_o duty_n we_o come_v to_o be_v guilty_a of_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n bloodguiltiness_n be_v a_o terrible_a thing_n you_o know_v david_n cry_v out_o lord_n deliver_v i_o from_o bloodguiltiness_n to_o have_v but_o the_o blood_n of_o a_o ordinary_a man_n to_o lie_v upon_o one_o to_o shed_v the_o blood_n of_o the_o vilede_a rogue_n that_o live_v in_o a_o murderous_a way_n it_o will_v lie_v upon_o the_o conscience_n and_o be_v very_o terrible_a it_o be_v impossible_a that_o such_o a_o man_n can_v be_v quiet_a all_o his_o day_n though_o he_o have_v never_o such_o a_o sear_a conscience_n a_o heathen_a can_v not_o be_v at_o quiet_a if_o he_o have_v the_o guilt_n of_o blood_n lie_v upon_o he_o but_o to_o be_v guilty_a of_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n who_o blood_n be_v ten_o thousand_o thousand_o time_n more_o worth_a than_o the_o blood_n of_o all_o the_o man_n that_o ever_o live_v upon_o the_o face_n of_o the_o earth_n must_v need_v be_v a_o most_o dreadful_a thing_n it_o be_v a_o fearful_a expression_n guilty_a of_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n that_o be_v he_o offer_v such_o a_o indignity_n to_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n as_o the_o lord_n will_v charge_v he_o of_o be_v guilty_a of_o it_o guilty_a of_o abuse_v the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o then_o he_o do_v eat_v and_o drink_v his_o own_o damnation_n but_o we_o shall_v speak_v more_o to_o that_o when_o we_o come_v to_o show_v how_o god_n will_v sanctify_v his_o name_n in_o those_o that_o do_v not_o sanctify_v it_o here_o in_o this_o holy_a ordinance_n i_o will_v not_o therefore_o spend_v further_a time_n in_o those_o scripture_n for_o i_o bring_v they_o only_o now_o to_o show_v that_o there_o be_v a_o necessity_n of_o it_o that_o we_o do_v sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o this_o ordinance_n three_o there_o be_v nothing_o that_o strike_v more_o upon_o a_o man_n conscience_n we_o find_v it_o by_o experience_n even_o upon_o wicked_a man_n conscience_n and_o especial_o upon_o such_o as_o begin_v to_o be_v enlighten_v in_o the_o holiness_n of_o this_o ordinance_n god_n have_v put_v much_o honour_n upon_o it_o i_o confess_v some_o man_n may_v use_v it_o superstitious_o though_o it_o be_v a_o ordinance_n of_o christ_n yet_o god_n have_v put_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o honour_n upon_o this_o ordinance_n that_o man_n that_o be_v very_o wicked_a otherwise_o yet_o their_o conscience_n tell_v they_o that_o when_o they_o come_v to_o this_o ordinance_n than_o they_o must_v be_v good_a than_o they_o must_v not_o sin_n but_o have_v good_a thought_n and_o good_a prayer_n at_o that_o time_n and_o many_o time_n they_o dare_v not_o come_v if_o their_o conscience_n tell_v they_o that_o they_o live_v in_o some_o sin_n i_o know_v one_o myself_o once_o that_o be_v to_o be_v execute_v and_o he_o have_v never_o receive_v this_o ordinance_n in_o all_o his_o life_n
