be_v in_o civil_a respect_n tolerate_v by_o moses_n 7._o for_o the_o hardness_n of_o the_o jew_n heart_n excuse_v not_o the_o offender_n conscience_n though_o that_o permissive_a law_n will_v bear_v he_o out_o before_o man_n 4_o when_o the_o apostle_n say_v the_o unbelieving_a husband_n be_v sanctify_v in_o the_o wife_n if_o any_o ask_v what_o wife_n we_o can_v say_v in_o a_o wife_n as_o she_o be_v only_o civil_o legitimate_a for_o so_o far_o that_o husband_n have_v as_o good_a and_o evident_a a_o ground_n of_o sanctification_n on_o his_o part_n and_o in_o himself_o without_o any_o accession_n of_o privilege_n from_o his_o wife_n for_o he_o must_v needs_o be_v as_o lawful_o her_o husband_n as_o she_o be_v his_o wife_n we_o can_v therefore_o no_o otherwise_o rational_o answer_v then_o a_o believe_a wife_n and_o so_o on_o the_o other_o side_n now_o see_v the_o apostle_n put_v it_o on_o a_o peculiar_a privilege_n which_o be_v sometime_o in_o the_o man_n when_o he_o be_v a_o believer_n and_o his_o wife_n be_v not_o and_o sometime_o in_o the_o wife_n if_o she_o be_v a_o believer_n and_o her_o husband_n be_v not_o so_o it_o appear_v that_o the_o foundation_n of_o comfort_n here_o intend_v by_o the_o apostle_n be_v lay_v in_o faith_n peculiar_a but_o to_o one_o of_o the_o two_o and_o not_o in_o matrimonial_a legitimacie_n common_a and_o equal_a to_o both_o 5_o faith_n which_o render_v we_o acceptable_a to_o god_n in_o christ_n purify_v we_o and_o all_o estate_n and_o possession_n to_o we_o that_o sanctify_v marriage_n not_o marriage_n it_o that_o unit_v we_o by_o one_o spirit_n to_o christ_n and_o be_v therefore_o far_o more_o excellent_a than_o marriage_n which_o unit_v man_n and_o woman_n only_o in_o one_o flesh_n faith_n therefore_o give_v our_o child_n a_o denomination_n and_o right_a to_o the_o seal_n of_o the_o covenant_n as_o they_o be_v holy_a 15._o not_o marriage_n which_o though_o civil_o lawful_a may_v yet_o be_v impious_a before_o god_n as_o where_o one_o put_v away_o his_o wife_n for_o less_o than_o adultery_n and_o marry_v another_o â—_o or_o another_o man_n marry_v she_o so_o put_v away_o it_o be_v therefore_o the_o faith_n and_o nor_o entitle_v they_o to_o the_o seal_n of_o god_n covenant_n neither_o be_v sanctification_n here_o or_o in_o any_o other_o place_n of_o scripture_n take_v otherwise_o then_o for_o separate_v some_o way_n from_o some_o thing_n profane_a or_o impious_a so_o person_n time_n place_n etc._n etc._n be_v say_v to_o be_v sanctify_v which_o legitimation_n can_v do_v neither_o can_v holy_a necessary_o imply_v no_o bastard_n for_o some_o holy_a man_n have_v be_v such_o neither_o can_v no_o bastard_n conclude_v a_o man_n holy_a the_o child_n of_o infidel_n and_o alien_n from_o the_o covenant_n of_o parent_n and_o the_o child_n indelible_a dishonour_n before_o man_n yet_o make_v they_o not_o such_o as_o belong_v not_o to_o the_o covenant_n of_o god_n as_o appear_v in_o pharez_n and_o zarah_n gen._n 38._o 18_o 29_o 30._o jephtah_n judg._n 11._o 1_o 2._o etc._n etc._n it_o must_v needs_o be_v therefore_o that_o the_o apostle_n in_o that_o term_n of_o holy_a signify_v some_o thing_n peculiar_a to_o those_o that_o be_v within_o the_o church_n of_o god_n and_o not_o communicable_a to_o child_n of_o infidel_n 40._o as_o such_o so_o tertullian_n speak_v of_o the_o unregenerate_a
