graceless_a professor_n outstrip_v a_o sound_a beleiver_n for_o he_o rest_v in_o his_o own_o performance_n and_o hope_v these_o will_v commend_v he_o to_o god_n if_o a_o natural_a conscience_n may_v go_v thus_o far_o then_o what_o difference_n be_v there_o between_o this_o natural_a conscience_n in_o hypocrite_n and_o sinner_n and_o a_o renew_a conscience_n in_o beleiver_n or_o how_o may_v i_o know_v whether_o the_o working_n of_o my_o conscience_n be_v the_o working_n of_o nature_n only_o or_o else_o of_o grace_n wrought_v in_o it_o i_o grant_v that_o it_o be_v difficult_a to_o distinguish_v between_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o and_o the_o difficulty_n have_v a_o twofold_a rise_n 1._o it_o arise_v from_o that_o hypocrisy_n that_o be_v in_o the_o best_a saint_n the_o weak_a beleiver_n be_v no_o hypocrite_n but_o yet_o there_o be_v some_o hypocrisy_n in_o the_o strong_a beleiver_n where_o there_o be_v most_o grace_n there_o be_v some_o sin_n and_o where_o there_o be_v most_o sincerity_n yet_o there_o be_v some_o hypocrisy_n now_o it_o be_v very_o incident_a to_o a_o tender_a conscience_n to_o misgive_v and_o mistrust_v its_o state_n upon_o the_o fight_n of_o any_o sin_n when_o he_o see_v hypocrisy_n break_v out_o in_o any_o duty_n or_o performance_n than_o he_o complain_v sure_o my_o aim_n be_v not_o sincere_a my_o conscience_n be_v not_o renew_v it_o be_v but_o natural_a conscience_n enlighten_v not_o by_o grace_n purge_v and_o change_v 2._o it_o arise_v from_o that_o resemblance_n there_o be_v between_o grace_n and_o hypocrisy_n for_o hypocrisy_n be_v a_o resemblance_n of_o grace_n picture_n pygmalion_n mâ—ae_fw-la a_o image_n so_o lively_a ib_o it_o hedeceive_v himself_o and_o take_v the_o victure_n for_o a_o person_n fall_v in_o love_n have_v this_o may_v well_o make_v the_o beleiver_n question_n whether_o his_o grace_n be_v true_a or_o not_o or_o whether_o the_o working_n of_o his_o conscience_n be_v not_o the_o working_n of_o nature_n only_o rather_o than_o of_o grace_n wrought_v in_o it_o but_o to_o answer_v the_o question_n you_o may_v make_v a_o judgement_n of_o this_o in_o these_o seven_o particular_n 1._o if_o a_o nature_n by_o the_o help_n of_o those_o 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d those_o common_a principle_n of_o reason_n that_o be_v in_o all_o man_n this_o be_v the_o conviction_n you_o read_v of_o rom._n distinct_o set_v home_o upon_o the_o conscience_n to_o the_o dread_n and_o terror_n of_o the_o sinner_n whilst_o he_o abide_v in_o that_o state_n and_o condition_n and_o this_o be_v the_o conviction_n open_a sin_n but_o to_o secret_a lust_n to_o inward_a and_o spiritual_a sin_n and_o if_o so_o this_o be_v a_o sure_a sign_n of_o the_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n because_o the_o trouble_n occasion_v by_o these_o sin_n bear_v a_o more_o immediate_a relation_n to_o the_o holiness_n of_o god_n who_o only_o be_v offend_v by_o they_o they_o be_v such_o as_o none_o else_o can_v see_v or_o know_v 2._o natural_a conviction_n deal_v only_o with_o a_o man_n conversation_n not_o with_o his_o state_n and_o condition_n with_o sin_n actual_a not_o original_a but_o spiritual_a conviction_n reach_v to_o than_o part_v with_o his_o interest_n in_o the_o soul_n he_o will_v yield_v far_o to_o our_o profession_n of_o religion_n and_o consent_n to_o any_o thing_n but_o our_o conversion_n and_o close_n
