¶_o the_o most_o notable_a and_o excellent_a discourse_n of_o the_o christian_a philosopher_n athenagoras_n as_o touch_v the_o resurrection_n of_o the_o dead_a translate_v out_o of_o greek_a into_o latin_a by_o peter_n nannius_n and_o out_o of_o latin_a into_o english_a by_o r._n porder_n a_o treatise_n very_a necessary_a and_o profitable_a for_o this_o our_o last_o ruinous_a age_n of_o the_o world_n in_o the_o which_o be_v such_o swarm_n of_o atheist_n and_o epicure_n who_o pestilent_a infection_n be_v more_o to_o be_v fear_v then_o papistry_n therefore_o worthy_a the_o consideration_n of_o all_o man_n as_o well_o for_o overthrow_v of_o their_o pernicious_a error_n as_o stay_v the_o faith_n and_o conscience_n of_o the_o weak_a and_o unlearned_a ¶_o imprint_v at_o london_n in_o this_o treatise_n take_v his_o ground_n to_o prove_v the_o resurrection_n of_o the_o dead_a by_o reason_n first_o admonish_v all_o those_o that_o doubt_n or_o believe_v not_o this_o doctrine_n to_o and_o as_o there_o be_v many_o error_n about_o the_o begin_n of_o thing_n so_o not_o a_o few_o error_n touch_v the_o repair_n of_o those_o thing_n which_o god_n make_v to_o be_v restore_v after_o their_o dissolution_n be_v the_o cause_n of_o this_o man_n writing_n for_o epicure_n &_o the_o saducee_v flat_o deny_v the_o resurrection_n as_o sardanapalus_n last_o king_n of_o syria_n declare_v time_n there_o spring_v up_o a_o other_o sect_n in_o arabia_n which_o hold_v a_o opinion_n contrary_a to_o the_o truth_n which_o say_v that_o soul_n perish_v together_o with_o the_o body_n and_o also_o shall_v rise_v with_o the_o body_n in_o the_o last_o day_n other_o affirm_v that_o man_n body_n shall_v rise_v but_o not_o the_o self_n same_o body_n nor_o the_o same_o flesh_n all_o which_o false_a opinion_n contraye_v to_o themselves_o and_o repugnante_fw-la to_o the_o christian_a faith_n as_o your_o worship_n hear_v they_o daily_o confute_v by_o authority_n of_o scripture_n and_o example_n in_o the_o same_o so_o here_o you_o shall_v see_v the_o same_o overthrow_v by_o force_n of_o reason_n and_o where_o some_o grant_n god_n to_o be_v able_a and_o yet_o doubt_v of_o his_o will_n athenagoras_n show_v that_o the_o ommpotencie_n justice_n wisdom_n and_o will_n of_o god_n be_v so_o link_v together_o by_o a_o inviolable_a decree_n concern_v this_o matter_n that_o the_o epicure_n may_v aswel_n deny_v that_o there_o be_v a_o god_n as_o deny_v the_o resurrection_n of_o the_o dead_a and_o last_o judgement_n and_o though_o some_o have_v sign_v reason_n as_o seem_v to_o they_o wherefore_o they_o doubt_v of_o this_o matter_n as_o the_o transmutation_n of_o one_o substance_n into_o a_o other_o by_o digestion_n for_o so_o physician_n define_v digestion_n namely_o of_o man_n body_n devour_v of_o beast_n and_o bird_n and_o the_o same_o beast_n and_o bird_n devour_v by_o man_n etc_n etc_n and_o so_o conclude_v a_o impossibility_n that_o man_n shall_v rise_v again_o with_o their_o own_o body_n the_o author_n do_v phisical_o make_v away_v to_o loose_v or_o unknit_v those_o doubt_n by_o these_o reason_n that_o all_o such_o meat_n as_o man_n and_o beast_n eat_v be_v not_o turn_v into_o the_o substance_n of_o the_o eater_n but_o only_o that_o part_n which_o be_v true_o natural_a for_o substantial_a food_n by_o order_n of_o creation_n or_o of_o nature_n and_o that_o see_v the_o creator_n be_v able_a and_o do_v know_v how_o to_o compose_v body_n of_o sundry_a sever_a substance_n he_o also_o be_v able_a and_o can_v not_o be_v ignorant_a how_o to_o conserve_v the_o integrity_n of_o the_o nature_n &_o substance_n compose_v though_o they_o may_v be_v dissolve_v and_o scatter_v into_o how_o many_o so_o ever_o thousand_o part_n or_o place_n against_o the_o heathen_a he_o affirm_v that_o who_o so_o ever_o have_v receive_v the_o law_n must_v be_v justify_v or_o condemn_v but_o it_o be_v not_o the_o soul_n only_o but_o soul_n and_o body_n therefore_o soul_n and_o body_n must_v be_v justify_v or_o condemn_v which_o can_v be_v unless_o the_o body_n rise_v ergo_fw-la the_o dead_a must_v needs_o rise_v again_o and_o further_o as_o it_o be_v absurd_a to_o attribute_v the_o affection_n of_o the_o body_n to_o the_o soul_n so_o be_v it_o a_o unjust_a thing_n to_o say_v the_o soul_n shall_v be_v justify_v
