upon_o usury_n we_o be_v to_o hold_v that_o the_o borrower_n upon_o usury_n offend_v either_o first_o when_o he_o borrow_v without_o necessity_n or_o second_o to_o ill_a purpose_n or_o three_o when_o he_o induce_v the_o lender_n to_o lend_v upon_o usury_n or_o four_a when_o in_o respect_n either_o of_o the_o time_n to_o come_v he_o shall_v not_o have_v mean_n to_o cure_v the_o wound_n which_o usury_n have_v make_v without_o do_v wrong_n to_o other_o or_o impoverish_v himself_o or_o fifthly_o of_o the_o time_n past_a when_o as_o through_o his_o own_o former_a default_n he_o have_v bring_v himself_o into_o this_o necessity_n for_o although_o his_o necessity_n when_o he_o be_v once_o in_o it_o may_v excuse_v his_o borrow_n be_v right_o qualify_v according_a to_o the_o four_o former_a distinction_n yet_o his_o fault_n in_o draw_v upon_o himself_o wilful_o or_o negligent_o this_o necessity_n can_v be_v excuse_v but_o these_o five_o point_n need_v further_a explication_n first_o therefore_o i_o say_v the_o borrower_n offend_v who_o borrow_v upon_o usury_n without_o necessity_n in_o any_o of_o those_o five_o respect_n before_o mention_v that_o be_v if_o either_o he_o find_v himself_o unlike_a to_o repay_v that_o which_o he_o borrow_v or_o if_o he_o be_v not_o in_o want_n or_o if_o his_o necessity_n be_v not_o urgent_a or_o because_o he_o have_v sufficient_a mean_n of_o his_o own_o or_o if_o he_o may_v borrow_v free_o if_o he_o will_v for_o as_o touch_v the_o first_o on_o those_o who_o have_v no_o good_a hope_n or_o assurance_n that_o they_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o repay_v the_o lord_n have_v not_o lay_v a_o necessity_n to_o borrow_v and_o much_o less_o upon_o usury_n but_o to_o seek_v relief_n by_o other_o lawful_a mean_n for_o although_o the_o usurer_n deserve_v to_o be_v deceive_v and_o by_o the_o ancient_a law_n of_o this_o land_n it_o have_v be_v decree_v that_o it_o shall_v be_v no_o fault_n to_o deceive_v a_o usurer_n to_o which_o purpose_n plato_n provide_v also_o by_o law_n 〈◊〉_d that_o it_o shall_v be_v lawful_a for_o the_o debtor_n when_o the_o creditor_n have_v lend_v upon_o usury_n to_o pay_v neither_o the_o usury_n nor_o the_o they_o offend_v as_o accessary_a to_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o usurer_n who_o borrow_v upon_o usury_n without_o necessity_n yea_o without_o urgent_a necessity_n for_o such_o have_v no_o urgent_a necessity_n to_o compel_v they_o to_o borrow_v do_v willing_o borrow_v upon_o usury_n and_o voluntary_o consent_v to_o the_o usurer_n sin_n now_o this_o be_v the_o sentence_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n that_o they_o be_v worthy_a of_o death_n not_o only_o who_o commit_v sin_n themselves_o but_o also_o willing_o consent_v to_o the_o sin_n of_o other_o rom._n 1_o 32._o and_o therefore_o he_o have_v and_o port_n take_v up_o money_n upon_o usury_n but_o such_o person_n sin_n first_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o usurer_n to_o who_o sin_n they_o make_v themselves_o accessary_a see_v there_o be_v no_o necessity_n why_o their_o pride_n and_o vanity_n shall_v be_v satisfy_v second_o in_o respect_n of_o themselves_o offend_v against_o the_o rule_n of_o frugality_n and_o thrift_n for_o while_o they_o desire_v to_o seem_v rich_a they_o become_v poor_a usury_n convert_n their_o substance_n into_o debt_n for_o riot_n as_o those_o who_o be_v addict_v to_o game_n or_o to_o other_o pleasure_n as_o whoredom_n drunkenness_n belly-cheer_n and_o such_o like_a take_v up_o money_n upon_o usury_n that_o there_o may_v not_o want_v matter_n either_o to_o maintain_v their_o game_n or_o nourish_v their_o pleasure_n for_o such_o man_n so_o they_o may_v have_v present_a money_n to_o satisfy_v their_o lust_n they_o care_v not_o upon_o what_o condition_n they_o procure_v it_o but_o as_o these_o be_v of_o all_o borrower_n upon_o usury_n the_o most_o foolish_a so_o those_o which_o lend_v unto_o they_o to_o these_o use_n be_v of_o all_o usurer_n the_o most_o wicked_a and_o either_o of_o they_o be_v accessary_a to_o the_o other_o sin_n the_o riotous_a person_n to_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o usurer_n whereunto_o he_o voluntary_o and_o without_o any_o necessity_n consent_v at_o the_o least_o if_o also_o he_o do_v not_o move_v and_o induce_v the_o lender_n thereunto_o the_o usurer_n not_o only_o to_o the_o borrower_n riot_n whereunto_o he_o afford_v matter_n but_o also_o to_o his_o utter_a
