spiritual_a light_n in_o the_o which_o thou_o may_v see_v the_o face_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n wherein_o thou_o may_v see_v a_o remedy_n in_o the_o death_n and_o passion_n of_o christ_n and_o wherein_o thou_o may_v see_v the_o bowel_n of_o mercy_n offer_v in_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n if_o thou_o have_v any_o spark_n of_o this_o light_n albeit_o it_o be_v never_o so_o little_a to_o direct_v thou_o and_o albeit_o this_o knowledge_n be_v never_o so_o much_o wound_v yet_o there_o be_v mercy_n enough_o for_o thou_o in_o christ_n but_o if_o thou_o close_v up_o all_o the_o window_n of_o thy_o soul_n and_o of_o thy_o heart_n and_o make_v they_o to_o become_v palpable_a darkness_n that_o thou_o neither_o know_v from_o whence_o the_o terror_n come_v nor_o yet_o perceive_v any_o remedy_n that_o be_v the_o misery_n of_o all_o misery_n we_o have_v many_o thing_n in_o general_a to_o lament_v concern_v the_o estate_n of_o this_o our_o country_n wherein_o we_o live_v also_o particular_o application_n there_o be_v not_o one_o of_o you_o but_o have_v great_a cause_n to_o take_v heed_n to_o your_o conscience_n now_o while_o you_o have_v time_n that_o you_o banish_v not_o altogether_o this_o light_n which_o be_v yet_o offer_v unto_o you_o and_o whereof_o some_o spark_n yet_o remain_v for_o i_o see_v the_o most_o part_n of_o man_n run_v headlong_o to_o banish_v the_o spark_n of_o light_n that_o be_v in_o they_o and_o will_v not_o rest_v so_o long_o as_o there_o be_v any_o spark_n of_o it_o leave_v until_o it_o be_v utter_o banish_v and_o when_o they_o have_v so_o do_v alas_o what_o can_v follow_v but_o a_o blind_a and_o terrible_a fear_n in_o their_o conscience_n which_o they_o can_v never_o get_v extinguish_v a_o fear_n without_o remedy_n a_o grow_a fear_n and_o not_o a_o decay_a fear_n a_o fear_n that_o will_v devour_v they_o whole_o at_o the_o last_o therefore_o every_o one_o of_o you_o be_v careful_a of_o this_o light_n that_o be_v within_o you_o take_v heed_n that_o the_o foul_a affection_n of_o your_o heart_n draw_v not_o your_o body_n after_o they_o see_v at_o the_o least_o that_o those_o affection_n banish_v not_o this_o light_n and_o so_o long_o as_o the_o lord_n offer_v you_o this_o light_n in_o time_n crave_v that_o of_o his_o mercy_n he_o will_v give_v you_o the_o grace_n to_o embrace_v it_o to_o take_v a_o new_a course_n and_o yet_o to_o amend_v your_o life_n while_o time_n be_v give_v you_o the_o body_n shall_v leave_v the_o soul_n and_o the_o soul_n shall_v leave_v the_o body_n but_o the_o conscience_n shall_v never_o leave_v the_o soul_n but_o whither_o soever_o the_o soul_n go_v to_o the_o same_o place_n shall_v the_o conscience_n repair_v and_o look_v in_o what_o estate_n thy_o conscience_n be_v when_o thou_o departe_v out_o of_o this_o life_n in_o the_o self_n same_o estate_n shall_v it_o meet_v thou_o in_o the_o gteat_fw-la day_n so_o that_o if_o thy_o conscience_n be_v a_o tormentor_n to_o thou_o at_o beseech_v the_o live_a lord_n so_o to_o sanctify_v your_o memory_n that_o you_o may_v keep_v these_o thing_n and_o that_o every_o one_o of_o these_o thing_n may_v be_v so_o imprint_v in_o your_o heart_n that_o you_o may_v be_v mindful_a of_o they_o all_o your_o life_n the_o second_o thing_n that_o we_o be_v to_o speak_v of_o be_v this_o we_o be_v to_o consider_v wherefore_o we_o shall_v try_v our_o conscience_n for_o what_o cause_v we_o shall_v examine_v our_o own_o soul_n &_o conscience_n i_o will_v declare_v the_o reason_n brief_o it_o behoove_v every_o one_o of_o you_o to_o try_v your_o conscience_n why_o because_o the_o lord_n will_v make_v his_o residence_n in_o no_o other_o part_n of_o the_o soul_n but_o in_o the_o conscience_n he_o have_v appoint_v his_o dwelling_n to_o be_v in_o try_v our_o heart_n three_o he_o be_v the_o lord_n of_o the_o conscience_n there_o be_v no_o monarch_n on_o earth_n that_o have_v any_o sovereignty_n or_o lordship_n over_o the_o conscience_n only_o soul_n depend_v upon_o a_o good_a conscience_n therefore_o it_o concern_v every_o one_o of_o you_o to_o try_v well_o your_o conscience_n there_o be_v never_o any_o law_n make_v or_o devise_v that_o forbid_v we_o to_o have_v a_o care_n of_o our_o health_n it_o be_v lawful_a for_o we_o to_o seek_v such_o thing_n as_o may_v procure_v and_o preserve_v it_o but_o the_o health_n of_o thy_o soul_n stand_v in_o the_o health_n of_o thy_o conscience_n and_o in_o preserve_v thereof_o therefore_o by_o all_o law_n thou_o ought_v to_o attend_v thy_o conscience_n if_o thou_o keep_v thy_o conscience_n because_o it_o be_v a_o fruitless_a thing_n to_o tell_v you_o that_o health_n be_v necessary_a conscience_n and_o not_o to_o show_v the_o way_n how_o this_o health_n may_v be_v obtain_v and_o preserve_v therefore_o to_o keep_v your_o conscience_n in_o quiet_a and_o good_a health_n i_o will_v give_v you_o these_o few_o lesson_n first_o of_o all_o be_v sure_a that_o thou_o retain_v a_o steadfast_a persuasion_n of_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n jesus_n examine_v when_o thou_o lie_v down_o and_o examine_v when_o thou_o rise_v up_o in_o what_o estate_n thou_o be_v with_o god_n whether_o thou_o may_v look_v for_o mercy_n
at_o his_o hand_n or_o not_o be_v thou_o persuade_v of_o mercy_n assure_v thyself_o thy_o conscience_n be_v in_o a_o good_a estate_n thou_o have_v health_n in_o thy_o soul_n for_o by_o the_o keep_n of_o faith_n the_o conscience_n be_v preserve_v as_o say_v the_o apostle_n 1._o tim._n 1.19_o keep_v this_o persuasion_n preserve_v it_o whole_a and_o sound_a hurt_v it_o not_o bring_v not_o thy_o soul_n into_o doubt_v stay_v not_o nor_o hinder_v thy_o persuasion_n if_o thou_o desire_v to_o keep_v health_n in_o thy_o soul_n for_o if_o thou_o doubt_v or_o any_o way_n diminish_v thy_o thy_o soul_n yea_o it_o can_v be_v but_o in_o that_o very_a article_n of_o time_n shall_v follow_v the_o hurt_n of_o thy_o conscience_n for_o faith_n will_v not_o dwell_v but_o in_o a_o whole_a conscience_n therefore_o at_o what_o time_n thou_o do_v any_o thing_n against_o thy_o conscience_n at_o that_o very_a time_n thou_o lose_v a_o degree_n of_o thy_o persuasion_n of_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n and_o until_o such_o time_n as_o thou_o fall_v down_o at_o the_o foot_n of_o christ_n and_o obtain_v mercy_n for_o that_o wicked_a deed_n purchase_v peace_n at_o his_o hand_n and_o repair_v thy_o persuasion_n thou_o shall_v ever_o doubt_v of_o mercy_n and_o want_v health_n in_o thy_o conscience_n then_o this_o be_v the_o first_o lesson_n to_o keep_v health_n in_o your_o soul_n to_o be_v persuade_v of_o mercy_n the_o second_o lesson_n to_o keep_v a_o good_a conscience_n or_o to_o keep_v health_n in_o thy_o soul_n be_v this_o you_o must_v fly_v eschew_v and_o forbear_v whatsoever_o may_v trouble_v the_o health_n of_o your_o soul_n whatsoever_o may_v trouble_v the_o quietness_n and_o peaceable_a estate_n of_o your_o conscience_n cast_v it_o out_o forbear_v it_o and_o eschew_v it_o this_o general_n be_v good_a but_o let_v we_o see_v what_o it_o be_v that_o trouble_v the_o quiet_a estate_n of_o the_o conscience_n only_o sin_n nothing_o but_o a_o evil_a nature_n therefore_o conscience_n and_o serve_v the_o affection_n of_o your_o heart_n &_o therefore_o to_o keep_v peace_n and_o health_n in_o thy_o soul_n thou_o must_v take_v leave_n of_o thy_o lust_n thou_o must_v renounce_v the_o lust_n &_o affection_n of_o thy_o heart_n and_o thou_o must_v not_o do_v as_o thou_o be_v wont_a to_o do_v thou_o must_v not_o be_v give_v to_o the_o service_n of_o thy_o affection_n &_o of_o thy_o appetite_n to_o put_v they_o in_o execution_n as_o thou_o have_v former_o do_v but_o in_o case_n thy_o affection_n or_o lust_n command_v thou_o to_o do_v any_o thing_n what_o be_v thy_o part_n thou_o must_v try_v how_o far_o this_o may_v stand_v with_o the_o good_a will_n of_o god_n and_o how_o far_o that_o affection_n which_o command_v thou_o may_v agree_v with_o the_o law_n of_o god_n be_v there_o such_o a_o harmony_n as_o that_o thing_n which_o thy_o affection_n command_v thou_o may_v stand_v with_o god_n law_n and_o holy_a will_n then_o no_o question_n it_o be_v a_o sanctify_a affection_n thou_o may_v put_v it_o in_o execution_n but_o after_o this_o trial_n if_o thou_o find_v thy_o affection_n to_o be_v exorbitant_a and_o out_o of_o rule_n carry_v thou_o from_o god_n and_o against_o his_o law_n beware_v of_o it_o resist_v it_o put_v it_o not_o in_o execution_n for_o if_o thou_o fulfil_v the_o will_n of_o thy_o affection_n what_o pleasure_n can_v it_o bring_v with_o it_o it_o may_v well_o bring_v a_o flatter_a pleasure_n in_o the_o entry_n but_o it_o close_v ever_o with_o a_o bitter_a remorse_n in_o the_o end_n then_o to_o eschew_v this_o bitter_a remorse_n shall_v you_o not_o all_o try_v your_o affection_n you_o must_v examine_v and_o try_v they_o by_o the_o square_n of_o god_n law_n you_o must_v see_v how_o far_o they_o agree_v with_o his_o lift_v up_o thy_o soul_n and_o run_v to_o the_o fountain_n of_o grace_n and_o mercy_n by_o repair_v to_o christ_n jesus_n to_o obtain_v mercy_n for_o thy_o soul_n and_o to_o crave_v that_o he_o will_v send_v out_o of_o himself_o that_o measure_n of_o peace_n that_o may_v put_v thy_o conscience_n at_o rest_n and_o restore_v thy_o soul_n to_o health_n so_o lie_v not_o where_o thou_o fall_v but_o incontinent_a arise_v and_o crave_v mercy_n and_o in_o obtain_v mercy_n thou_o shall_v repair_v thy_o fall_n thou_o shall_v amend_v thy_o life_n by_o repentance_n and_o by_o repentance_n thou_o shall_v get_v peace_n thou_o shall_v have_v thy_o conscience_n at_o rest_n and_o get_v health_n to_o thy_o soul_n now_o keep_v this_o rule_n if_o thou_o desire_v to_o keep_v thy_o soul_n in_o health_n look_v that_o thou_o sleep_v not_o in_o sin_n as_o david_n do_v lie_v not_o still_o when_o thou_o be_v fall_v and_o so_o fall_v from_o one_o sin_n to_o another_o as_o from_o adultery_n to_o murder_v from_o murder_n to_o the_o next_o etc._n etc._n as_o common_o if_o a_o man_n sleep_n in_o sin_n and_o rise_v not_o in_o time_n one_o sin_n will_v draw_v on_o another_o for_o there_o be_v no_o sin_n alone_o but_o always_o the_o great_a and_o more_o heinous_a that_o the_o sin_n be_v it_o have_v the_o great_a and_o worse_a sin_n wait_v on_o it_o therefore_o when_o you_o fall_v delay_v not_o to_o arise_v but_o repair_v to_o the_o fountain_n of_o mercy_n and_o seek_v grace_n in_o time_n run_v to_o prayer_n run_v to_o the_o church_n of_o god_n wheresoever_o it_o be_v whether_o in_o the_o field_n be_v unthankful_a to_o god_n for_o his_o benefit_n i_o be_o assure_v and_o this_o ground_n can_v deceive_v i_o benefit_n there_o be_v none_o of_o you_o that_o have_v purchase_v any_o benefit_n in_o a_o good_a conscience_n but_o you_o will_v thank_v god_n for_o it_o for_o a_o good_a conscience_n will_v never_o shake_v off_o the_o memory_n of_o god_n altogether_o so_o when_o you_o forget_v to_o thank_v god_n it_o be_v a_o evident_a argument_n that_o the_o benefit_n be_v purchase_v in_o a_o evil_a conscience_n for_o the_o which_o cause_n the_o curse_n of_o god_n be_v hang_v over_o your_o blind_a for_o from_o that_o time_n a_o man_n by_o evil_a do_v have_v banish_v knowledge_n out_o of_o the_o mind_n and_o feel_v out_o of_o the_o heart_n what_o can_v remain_v there_o but_o a_o blind_a fear_n when_o man_n have_v put_v out_o all_o light_n and_o leave_v nothing_o in_o their_o nature_n but_o darkness_n there_o can_v nothing_o remain_v but_o a_o blind_a fear_n so_o i_o grant_v that_o and_o wretchedness_n and_o come_v with_o a_o heart_n to_o get_v grace_n if_o with_o a_o dissolute_a life_n i_o mean_v not_o of_o open_a slander_n thou_o have_v also_o a_o purpose_n not_o to_o amend_v but_o to_o do_v worse_o for_o god_n sake_n abstain_v thus_o far_o of_o the_o thing_n signify_v unto_o this_o general_a consideration_n there_o remain_v these_o thing_n yet_o to_o be_v make_v plain_a unto_o you_o first_o how_o the_o sign_n and_o the_o thing_n signify_v be_v couple_v together_o and_o how_o they_o be_v conjoin_v next_o it_o rest_v to_o be_v tell_v you_o how_o the_o sign_n be_v deliver_v and_o how_o the_o thing_n signify_v be_v deliver_v and_o how_o both_o be_v receive_v as_o they_o be_v deliver_v this_o be_v do_v i_o shall_v speak_v brief_o of_o the_o other_o part_n of_o the_o sacrament_n which_o be_v the_o word_n and_o last_o of_o all_o i_o shall_v let_v you_o see_v what_o sort_n of_o fault_n they_o be_v that_o pervert_v the_o sacrament_n and_o make_v it_o of_o no_o effect_n and_o if_o time_n shall_v serve_v i_o shall_v enter_v in_o particular_a to_o this_o sacrament_n which_o we_o have_v in_o hand_n then_o to_o come_v back_o again_o in_o the_o three_o place_n it_o be_v to_o be_v consider_v how_o the_o sign_n and_o the_o thing_n signify_v together_o be_v couple_v for_o about_o this_o conjunction_n all_o the_o debate_n stand_v all_o the_o strife_n that_o we_o have_v with_o they_o that_o vary_v from_o the_o straight_a truth_n stand_v about_o the_o matter_n of_o this_o conjunction_n some_o will_v have_v they_o conjoin_v one_o way_n and_o some_o after_o another_o way_n and_o man_n strive_v very_o bitter_o about_o this_o matter_n and_o continue_v so_o in_o strife_n that_o through_o the_o bitterness_n of_o contention_n they_o lose_v the_o truth_n for_o when_o the_o heat_n of_o contention_n arise_v and_o especial_o in_o disputation_n they_o take_v no_o heed_n to_o the_o truth_n but_o to_o the_o victory_n if_o they_o may_v be_v victorious_a and_o it_o be_v but_o by_o a_o multitude_n of_o word_n they_o regard_v not_o suppose_v they_o lose_v the_o truth_n read_v their_o work_n and_o book_n about_o this_o conjunction_n &_o you_o will_v crave_v rather_o conscience_n than_o knowledge_n yea_o if_o they_o have_v the_o quarter_n of_o conscience_n that_o they_o have_v of_o knowledge_n no_o question_n this_o controversy_n may_v be_v easy_o take_v up_o but_o man_n lack_v conscience_n and_o have_v knowledge_n a_o evil_a conscience_n pervert_v the_o knowledge_n and_o draw_v they_o to_o a_o evil_a end_n to_o tell_v you_o now_o how_o these_o two_o be_v conjoin_v it_o will_v be_v far_o easy_a for_o i_o and_o better_a for_o you_o to_o understand_v to_o tell_v you_o first_o how_o they_o be_v conjoin_v for_o i_o shall_v make_v it_o very_o clear_a unto_o you_o by_o let_v you_o see_v how_o they_o be_v not_o conjoin_v but_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a to_o make_v it_o so_o clear_a by_o tell_v you_o the_o manner_n how_o they_o be_v conjoin_v you_o may_v perceive_v clear_o by_o your_o eye_n that_o the_o sign_n and_o the_o thing_n signify_v be_v not_o local_o conjoin_v that_o be_v they_o be_v not_o both_o in_o one_o place_n you_o may_v perceive_v also_o by_o your_o outward_a sense_n that_o the_o body_n of_o christ_n which_o be_v the_o thing_n signify_v and_o the_o sign_n be_v not_o conjoin_v corporal_o their_o body_n touch_v not_o each_o other_o you_o may_v perceive_v also_o they_o be_v not_o visible_o conjoin_v they_o be_v not_o both_o subject_n to_o the_o outward_a eye_n so_o it_o be_v easy_a to_o let_v you_o see_v how_o they_o be_v not_o conjoin_v for_o if_o the_o sign_n and_o the_o thing_n signify_v be_v visible_o and_o corporal_o conjoin_v what_o need_n be_v there_o for_o we_o to_o have_v a_o sign_n wherefore_o shall_v the_o sign_n in_o the_o sacrament_n serve_v we_o be_v not_o the_o sign_n in_o the_o sacrament_n appoint_v to_o lead_v i_o to_o christ_n be_v not_o the_o sign_n appoint_v to_o point_n out_o christ_n unto_o i_o if_o i_o see_v he_o present_a by_o my_o own_o eye_n as_o i_o do_v the_o bread_n what_o need_n have_v i_o of_o the_o bread_n therefore_o you_o may_v see_v clear_o that_o there_o be_v no_o such_o thing_n as_o a_o corporal_a natural_a or_o any_o such_o like_a physical_a conjunction_n between_o the_o sign_n &_o the_o thing_n signify_v so_o i_o say_v it_o be_v easy_a to_o let_v you_o see_v how_o they_o be_v not_o conjoin_v now_o let_v we_o see_v how_o they_o be_v conjoin_v we_o can_v crave_v here_o any_o other_o sort_n of_o conjunction_n than_o may_v stand_v &_o agree_v with_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o sacrament_n for_o nothing_o can_v be_v conjoin_v with_o another_o after_o any_o other_o sort_n then_o the_o nature_n of_o it_o will_v suffer_v therefore_o there_o can_v be_v here_o any_o other_o sort_n of_o conjunction_n than_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o sacrament_n will_v suffer_v now_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o sacrament_n will_v suffer_v a_o sacramental_a conjunction_n o_o but_o that_o be_v hard_o yet_o you_o be_v never_o the_o better_a for_o this_o but_o i_o shall_v make_v it_o clear_a by_o god_n grace_n you_o know_v every_o sacrament_n be_v a_o mystery_n there_o be_v not_o a_o sacrament_n but_o it_o contain_v a_o high_a and_o divine_a mystery_n in_o respect_n then_o that_o a_o sacrament_n be_v a_o mystery_n it_o follow_v that_o a_o mystical_a secret_n and_o a_o spiritual_a coniuction_n agree_v well_o with_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o sacrament_n as_o the_o conjunction_n between_o we_o and_o christ_n be_v full_a of_o mystery_n as_o the_o apostle_n let_v you_o see_v eph._n 5.32_o that_o it_o be_v a_o mystical_a and_o spiritual_a conjunction_n so_o no_o doubt_n the_o conjunction_n between_o the_o sacrament_n and_o the_o thing_n signify_v in_o the_o sacrament_n must_v be_v of_o that_o same_o nature_n mystical_a and_o spiritual_a it_o be_v not_o possible_a to_o tell_v you_o by_o any_o ocular_a demonstration_n how_o christ_n and_o we_o be_v conjoin_v but_o whosoever_o will_v understand_v that_o conjunction_n his_o mind_n must_v be_v enlighten_v with_o a_o heavenly_a eye_n that_o as_o he_o have_v a_o eye_n in_o his_o head_n to_o see_v corporal_a thing_n so_o he_o must_v have_v in_o his_o mind_n and_o heart_n a_o heavenly_a eye_n to_o see_v this_o mystical_a conjunction_n a_o heavenly_a eye_n to_o take_v up_o this_o secret_a conjunction_n that_o be_v betwixt_o the_o son_n of_o god_n and_o we_o in_o the_o sacrament_n so_o i_o need_v not_o to_o insist_v any_o long_a hereupon_o except_o you_o have_v this_o heavenly_a illumination_n you_o can_v never_o understand_v neither_o your_o own_o conjunction_n with_o christ_n nor_o yet_o the_o conjunction_n between_o the_o sign_n and_o the_o thing_n signify_v in_o the_o sacrament_n but_o i_o keep_v my_o ground_n as_o the_o sacrament_n be_v a_o mystery_n so_o the_o conjunction_n that_o be_v in_o the_o sacrament_n no_o doubt_n must_v be_v a_o mystical_a secret_a and_o spiritual_a conjunction_n beside_o this_o i_o will_v let_v you_o see_v by_o a_o general_a deduction_n that_o in_o every_o sacrament_n be_v two_o thing_n which_o two_o have_v a_o relation_n and_o mutual_a respect_n the_o one_o to_o the_o other_o so_o that_o a_o relative_a conjunction_n agree_v well_o with_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o sacrament_n then_o will_v thou_o ask_v what_o kind_n of_o conjunction_n it_o be_v i_o answer_v the_o conjunction_n that_o agree_v with_o nature_n to_o wit_n a_o relative_a and_o a_o respective_a conjunction_n such_o a_o conjunction_n wherein_o the_o sign_n have_v a_o continual_a respect_n to_o the_o thing_n signify_v and_o the_o thing_n signify_v to_o the_o sign_n then_o will_v you_o know_v in_o a_o word_n the_o kind_n of_o conjunction_n that_o be_v between_o the_o sign_n and_o the_o thing_n signify_v i_o call_v it_o a_o secret_a and_o a_o mystical_a conjunction_n that_o stand_v in_o a_o mutual_a relation_n between_o the_o sign_n and_o the_o thing_n signify_v there_o be_v another_o conjunction_n beside_o the_o conjunction_n that_o be_v between_o christ_n and_o we_o that_o may_v make_v this_o conjunction_n betwixt_o the_o sign_n and_o the_o thing_n signify_v in_o the_o sacrament_n more_o clear_a and_o this_o be_v the_o conjunction_n which_o be_v between_o the_o word_n which_o you_o hear_v thereby_o and_o the_o thing_n signify_v by_o the_o same_o word_n mark_v what_o sort_n of_o conjunction_n be_v between_o the_o word_n which_o you_o hear_v and_o the_o thing_n signify_v which_o come_v into_o your_o mind_n the_o like_a conjunction_n be_v between_o the_o sign_n that_o you_o see_v and_o the_o thing_n signify_v in_o the_o
many_o evil_a man_n that_o have_v seek_v death_n and_o it_o be_v as_o true_a that_o there_o have_v be_v many_o good_a man_n that_o have_v seek_v death_n yet_o never_o one_o of_o these_o seek_a death_n for_o itself_o for_o it_o be_v not_o natural_a to_o seek_v the_o dissolution_n of_o ourselves_o but_o these_o evil_a man_n that_o seek_v death_n and_o put_v hand_n on_o themselves_o in_o their_o appearance_n they_o seek_v it_o for_o a_o better_a to_o wit_n to_o eschew_v the_o present_a torment_n and_o vexation_n of_o hell_n in_o their_o conscience_n wherein_o they_o be_v think_v that_o their_o miserable_a soul_n be_v out_o of_o the_o body_n shall_v be_v at_o great_a liberty_n then_o if_o it_o be_v detain_v in_o this_o prison_n but_o they_o be_v all_o deceive_v for_o suppose_v hell_n be_v begin_v here_o yet_o it_o be_v not_o in_o a_o full_a measure_n until_o this_o life_n be_v do_v and_o so_o the_o miserable_a caitiff_n deceive_v himself_o on_o the_o other_o side_n there_o have_v be_v good_a man_n that_o have_v seek_v death_n but_o not_o for_o itself_o but_o for_o a_o better_a if_o they_o know_v not_o &_o feel_v not_o that_o there_o be_v a_o better_a life_n to_o follow_v after_o death_n they_o will_v not_o seek_v it_o but_o by_o reason_n they_o see_v there_o be_v a_o great_a joy_n to_o follow_v after_o it_o therefore_o they_o regard_v not_o to_o taste_v in_o some_o measure_n for_o the_o present_a of_o the_o bitterness_n of_o death_n it_o it_o true_a again_o &_o i_o grant_v that_o death_n unto_o thou_o who_o be_v a_o christian_n be_v sanctify_v in_o the_o death_n of_o our_o master_n and_o saviour_n christ_n jesus_n for_o bless_a be_v the_o death_n of_o they_o that_o die_v in_o the_o lord_n but_o suppose_v the_o death_n be_v sanctify_v yet_o thou_o be_v not_o best_a of_o we_o all_o there_o be_v a_o remnant_n of_o corruption_n will_v to_o god_n it_o be_v but_o a_o remnant_n so_o thick_a and_o foul_a that_o it_o be_v shame_n to_o speak_v of_o it_o this_o corruption_n urge_v the_o conscience_n so_o that_o where_o the_o conscience_n be_v urge_v there_o must_v be_v a_o fear_n and_o the_o more_o the_o conscience_n be_v urge_v the_o great_a be_v the_o pain_n and_o terror_n it_o be_v true_a that_o this_o fear_n be_v temper_v by_o faith_n that_o dwell_v in_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o hope_n of_o joy_n that_o dwell_v in_o the_o faithful_a soul_n hold_v this_o fear_n in_o awe_n that_o hope_v of_o heavenly_a joy_n so_o swallow_v up_o and_o devour_v the_o fear_n and_o make_v it_o to_o appear_v to_o the_o looker_n on_o that_o the_o soul_n have_v no_o fear_n but_o no_o doubt_n there_o be_v a_o fear_n and_o it_o be_v sure_a there_o be_v some_o grief_n it_o be_v only_o as_o i_o have_v say_v the_o hope_n of_o that_o heavenly_a joy_n that_o hold_v this_o fear_n in_o awe_n where_o this_o hope_n be_v not_o terrible_a be_v that_o fear_n wonderful_a be_v these_o terror_n great_a be_v that_o anguish_n of_o soul_n that_o be_v there_o so_o that_o i_o can_v find_v name_n to_o express_v it_o terrible_a it_o be_v to_o see_v the_o countenance_n of_o god_n in_o his_o justice_n there_o be_v no_o creature_n that_o can_v abide_v it_o terrible_a it_o be_v to_o see_v their_o own_o sin_n present_v themselves_o the_o ouglinesse_n and_o guiltiness_n of_o sin_n and_o beside_o all_o these_o to_o be_v leave_v destitute_a of_o hope_n it_o be_v not_o the_o least_o part_n of_o their_o grief_n and_o yet_o this_o be_v not_o regard_v for_o man_n will_v not_o rise_v to_o get_v faith_n if_o it_o shall_v cost_v they_o but_o a_o hour_n they_o will_v not_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n this_o be_v a_o wonderful_a and_o miserable_a madness_n that_o be_v in_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n that_o he_o will_v never_o provide_v for_o hell_n until_o hell_n catch_v he_o death_n now_o to_o come_v to_o our_o purpose_n the_o less_o the_o corruption_n be_v the_o less_o must_v be_v the_o fear_n wherein_o then_o shall_v your_o exercise_n stand_v shall_v you_o not_o study_v to_o diminish_v this_o corruption_n for_o he_o that_o will_v be_v void_a of_o fear_n must_v travel_v to_o diminish_v this_o corruption_n that_o the_o conscience_n may_v be_v clean_o and_o you_o may_v have_v a_o good_a testimony_n which_o make_v man_n to_o be_v without_o terror_n for_o as_o long_o as_o the_o love_n of_o this_o world_n and_o of_o worldly_a thing_n occupy_v our_o soul_n it_o be_v not_o possible_a that_o it_o can_v be_v without_o fear_n for_o why_o there_o be_v no_o heart_n that_o can_v willing_o part_v with_o the_o thing_n that_o it_o love_v without_o exceed_a sorrow_n and_o grief_n then_o we_o shall_v travel_v to_o take_v order_n with_o these_o affection_n and_o love_n to_o worldly_a thing_n but_o so_o far_o as_o they_o may_v serve_v to_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o in_o god_n to_o love_v ourselves_o and_o our_o neighbour_n that_o when_o he_o call_v no_o strange_a love_n may_v draw_v we_o from_o he_o there_o be_v a_o common_a law_n in_o all_o city_n concern_v the_o forbid_a good_n which_o be_v discharge_v plain_o to_o be_v carry_v out_o of_o the_o country_n where_o we_o be_v present_o and_o suppose_v they_o be_v carry_v they_o can_v serve_v to_o of_o the_o flesh_n and_o the_o lust_n thereof_o be_v these_o forbid_a good_n which_o serve_v to_o no_o use_n in_o the_o country_n whither_o we_o go_v yea_o they_o be_v plain_o forbid_v by_o the_o for_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o of_o our_o neighbour_n and_o let_v we_o cast_v off_o all_o contrary_a love_n only_o let_v we_o love_n god_n and_o in_o god_n let_v we_o love_v our_o neighbour_n now_o if_o i_o may_v obtain_v this_o one_o lesson_n for_o all_o the_o rest_n i_o will_v think_v my_o travel_n very_o well_o bestow_v and_o therefore_o i_o insist_v so_o much_o the_o more_o in_o it_o that_o it_o may_v sink_v into_o your_o heart_n now_o than_o this_o good_a king_n fear_v which_o tell_v i_o that_o in_o all_o christian_n there_o be_v some_o fear_n i_o come_v to_o the_o next_o what_o say_v he_o in_o his_o trouble_n and_o perturbation_n the_o effect_n of_o the_o thing_n he_o say_v be_v this_o first_o he_o say_v he_o see_v his_o own_o death_n prepare_v for_o he_o next_o because_o he_o be_v trouble_v with_o it_o and_o cast_v in_o a_o great_a perturbation_n he_o subjoin_v the_o reason_n why_o he_o be_v so_o grieve_v and_o as_o i_o may_v gather_v they_o they_o be_v three_o in_o number_n but_o ere_o i_o come_v to_o the_o reason_n i_o will_v tell_v you_o his_o own_o word_n which_o he_o say_v in_o time_n of_o his_o trouble_n he_o say_v i_o shall_v go_v down_o to_o the_o gate_n of_o the_o grave_n i_o be_o draw_v near_o to_o the_o gate_n of_o death_n for_o so_o soon_o as_o i_o hear_v the_o prophet_n say_v that_o i_o shall_v die_v so_o soon_o i_o begin_v to_o prepare_v i_o for_o it_o for_o if_o all_o threaten_n come_v to_o pass_v as_o the_o prophet_n have_v say_v if_o i_o find_v no_o outgate_n in_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n i_o must_v die_v for_o this_o i_o know_v that_o i_o be_o a_o mortal_a man_n and_o suppose_v i_o be_v a_o king_n and_o a_o glorious_a king_n yet_o i_o be_o not_o exempt_v from_o death_n and_o therefore_o i_o will_v prepare_v i_o for_o it_o he_o know_v well_o that_o suppose_v he_o make_v himself_o ready_a he_o be_v not_o one_o hair_n near_o to_o death_n now_o sure_o if_o you_o will_v follow_v this_o king_n application_n you_o will_v be_v a_o thousand_o time_n ready_a and_o more_o able_a to_o live_v than_o you_o be_v in_o your_o disease_n but_o you_o be_v cast_v up_o in_o such_o a_o dainty_a and_o delicate_a fashion_n that_o no_o man_n of_o do_v and_o proceed_n be_v a_o hide_a manner_n of_o do_v against_o his_o enemy_n and_o few_o perceive_v the_o fashion_n of_o the_o bring_n about_o of_o his_o judgement_n for_o you_o see_v he_o take_v his_o enemy_n in_o a_o instant_n at_o unaware_o while_o a_o man_n be_v in_o the_o height_n of_o his_o pride_n he_o bereave_v he_o of_o his_o counsel_n he_o bereave_v he_o of_o his_o force_n and_o spoil_v he_o both_o of_o heart_n and_o hand_n in_o such_o sort_n that_o he_o have_v no_o wit_n to_o devise_v more_o than_o a_o ass_n and_o have_v not_o a_o hand_n to_o perform_v any_o more_o than_o if_o he_o want_v hand_n so_o he_o bereave_v he_o of_o his_o policy_n &_o exquisite_a judgement_n and_o how_o be_v this_o do_v it_o be_v by_o a_o blind_a fear_n that_o he_o strike_v they_o soul_n which_o now_o be_v in_o prison_n as_o it_o be_v will_v be_v in_o a_o better_a estate_n if_o it_o be_v out_o of_o the_o body_n but_o alas_o they_o be_v deceive_v so_o i_o say_v the_o judgement_n of_o god_n when_o it_o light_v how_o long_o soever_o it_o be_v delay_v terrible_a shall_v it_o be_v when_o it_o light_v on_o the_o enemy_n it_o be_v a_o fearful_a thing_n to_o cast_v ourselves_o willing_o into_o the_o hand_n of_o a_o consume_a fire_n therefore_o now_o see_v you_o have_v course_n in_o hand_n use_v you_o shall_v take_v good_a heed_n to_o your_o course_n look_v well_o about_o you_o and_o be_v diligent_a to_o know_v whether_o you_o be_v on_o god_n side_n or_o against_o he_o you_o again_o that_o be_v not_o practiser_n and_o meddle_v not_o with_o high_a matter_n take_v heed_n how_o you_o walk_v in_o your_o own_o call_n look_v unto_o your_o trade_n you_o that_o be_v merchant_n look_v unto_o your_o deal_n you_o that_o be_v lawyer_n how_o crooked_a or_o how_o straight_o you_o be_v you_o that_o be_v lord_n and_o judge_n with_o what_o conscience_n you_o proceed_v in_o your_o vocation_n and_o mark_v this_o look_v to_o his_o word_n look_v what_o profit_n you_o have_v make_v of_o his_o word_n examine_v your_o call_n by_o his_o word_n and_o if_o you_o examine_v your_o call_n by_o his_o word_n this_o way_n you_o shall_v find_v the_o fruit_n or_o loss_n of_o your_o call_n but_o if_o you_o depend_v on_o the_o testimony_n of_o your_o conscience_n without_o the_o examination_n and_o rule_n of_o his_o word_n you_o will_v be_v deceive_v for_o many_o do_v this_o and_o say_v i_o be_o not_o trouble_v in_o conscience_n i_o be_o sure_a my_o conscience_n press_v i_o not_o when_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n they_o run_v a_o wicked_a course_n &_o try_v not_o their_o call_n by_o the_o bless_a word_n of_o god_n but_o look_v only_o to_o the_o estate_n of_o their_o conscience_n which_o in_o such_o evil_a affair_n flatter_v they_o they_o think_v themselves_o sure_a enough_o o_o but_o thou_o be_v deceive_v and_o why_o thy_o conscience_n may_v be_v deceive_v as_o well_o as_o thou_o and_o how_o thy_o conscience_n can_v give_v thou_o no_o better_a warrant_n of_o thy_o do_v neither_o to_o accuse_v nor_o to_o excuse_v but_o as_o she_o be_v inform_v so_o that_o if_o she_o be_v right_o inform_v she_o will_v give_v thou_o a_o right_a warrant_n but_o if_o she_o be_v evil_o inform_v she_o will_v give_v thou_o as_o evil_a a_o warrant_n and_o flatter_v thou_o so_o that_o of_o a_o slight_a information_n she_o will_v give_v as_o slight_v a_o testimony_n there_o be_v no_o as_o if_o he_o have_v offend_v no_o creature_n he_o address_v he_o to_o god_n and_o crave_v pardon_n and_o mercy_n for_o his_o sin_n of_o he_o only_o so_o this_o be_v the_o true_a repentance_n where_o man_n and_o woman_n although_o they_o have_v offend_v the_o creature_n yet_o they_o run_v to_o god_n only_o to_o seek_v remission_n and_o indeed_o this_o be_v the_o right_a way_n for_o why_o it_o be_v only_a god_n that_o can_v forgive_v they_o their_o sin_n although_o they_o have_v offend_v man_n &_o woman_n there_o be_v no_o man_n nor_o woman_n that_o be_v able_a to_o purge_v theâ—r_a conscience_n to_o take_v away_o the_o guiltiness_n of_o sin_n in_o their_o conscience_n it_o be_v only_a god_n who_o by_o the_o virtue_n of_o the_o blood_n of_o his_o son_n do_v purge_v the_o conscience_n therefore_o they_o address_v they_o to_o god_n only_o proper_o also_o it_o be_v he_o who_o they_o have_v offend_v for_o as_o for_o man_n and_o woman_n they_o may_v escape_v their_o eye_n but_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a that_o they_o can_v escape_v the_o all-seeing_a eye_n of_o god_n who_o see_v the_o sin_n of_o the_o heart_n as_o well_o as_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o body_n therefore_o in_o respect_n of_o his_o all-seeing_a eye_n it_o become_v they_o special_o to_o have_v recourse_n to_o he_o &_o to_o address_v they_o to_o he_o only_o this_o be_v call_v the_o godly_a sorrow_n in_o this_o part_n you_o have_v only_o this_o to_o beware_v of_o repentance_n for_o the_o devil_n be_v ever_o ready_a at_o thy_o hand_n and_o this_o caution_n be_v not_o only_o necessary_a for_o a_o hard_a wilful_a heart_n but_o if_o man_n and_o woman_n through_o the_o weightinesse_n of_o their_o sin_n conceive_v overdeep_a sorrow_n in_o their_o heart_n in_o this_o case_n they_o will_v be_v help_v for_o i_o say_v at_o that_o time_n the_o devil_n be_v present_a and_o so_o soon_o as_o he_o perceive_v thou_o beat_v down_o with_o the_o consideration_n of_o thy_o own_o sin_n that_o thou_o be_v as_o it_o be_v present_o in_o the_o pit_n of_o hell_n than_o he_o be_v busy_a to_o make_v thou_o to_o doubt_v to_o make_v thou_o to_o despair_v and_o to_o make_v thou_o to_o think_v that_o thy_o sin_n be_v so_o many_o so_o ugly_a and_o so_o great_a that_o the_o lord_n will_v never_o forgive_v they_o and_o cast_v in_o this_o or_o that_o stay_n before_o thou_o to_o terrify_v thou_o that_o thou_o come_v not_o to_o seek_v grace_n at_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n therefore_o man_n shall_v in_o this_o point_n take_v heed_n to_o themselves_o they_o shall_v remit_v their_o cogitation_n &_o not_o hold_v it_o rather_o thy_o heart_n to_o the_o consideration_n of_o the_o riches_n of_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n and_o whatsoever_o thou_o think_v of_o thyself_o and_o the_o more_o abject_a so_o thou_o end_v in_o humility_n and_o not_o in_o desperation_n it_o be_v the_o better_a think_v nothing_o of_o god_n but_o more_o then_o excellent_a and_o of_o his_o mercy_n as_o a_o thing_n that_o pass_v all_o his_o work_n a_o infinite_a thing_n that_o can_v be_v compass_v commit_v for_o of_o all_o sin_n that_o can_v be_v commit_v i_o esteem_v this_o the_o great_a when_o a_o man_n in_o his_o heart_n will_v match_v the_o greatness_n of_o his_o iniquity_n with_o the_o infinite_a weight_n of_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n when_o the_o devil_n by_o his_o suggestion_n make_v thou_o to_o believe_v that_o thy_o sin_n be_v great_a than_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n and_o his_o mercy_n although_o it_o be_v infinite_a less_o than_o thy_o sin_n of_o all_o sin_n i_o think_v this_o the_o great_a for_o in_o this_o bring_v forth_o a_o turn_n from_o sin_n for_o i_o can_v never_o turn_v from_o it_o if_o i_o hate_v it_o not_o this_o turn_n from_o the_o sin_n bring_v forth_o a_o flight_n that_o be_v a_o further_o turn_v &_o continuance_n in_o depart_v this_o flight_n from_o sin_n bring_v forth_o a_o care_n and_o study_v how_o to_o please_v god_n and_o this_o study_n bring_v a_o more_o earnest_a care_n how_o to_o hold_v fast_o that_o hold_v of_o he_o which_o thou_o have_v get_v &_o to_o retain_v his_o favour_n which_o thou_o have_v feel_v all_o these_o effect_n flow_v from_o the_o right_a sorrow_n &_o dolour_n mortification_n this_o part_n of_o repentance_n be_v call_v mortification_n or_o as_o the_o ancient_n call_v it_o contrition_n it_o be_v call_v mortification_n because_o by_o the_o power_n of_o the_o spirit_n which_o work_v this_o dolour_n sin_n be_v mortify_v it_o slay_v the_o lust_n and_o affection_n that_o be_v in_o i_o it_o take_v away_o the_o strength_n and_o power_n of_o sin_n within_o i_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o which_o slaughter_n it_o be_v call_v mortification_n for_o christ_n not_o only_o overcome_v sin_n and_o death_n &_o hell_n by_o virtue_n of_o his_o death_n perfect_o in_o his_o own_o person_n but_o he_o spoil_v sin_n and_o death_n of_o his_o power_n and_o carry_v such_o a_o rich_a &_o honourable_a triumph_n over_o they_o all_o that_o sin_n have_v lose_v his_o power_n and_o death_n have_v lose_v his_o sting_n so_o that_o whosoever_o can_v get_v hold_n of_o christ_n and_o his_o power_n by_o the_o virtue_n thereof_o sin_n shall_v die_v in_o he_o and_o his_o affection_n shall_v be_v daily_o by_o little_a &_o little_o slay_v in_o respect_n of_o the_o which_o effect_n this_o part_n of_o repentance_n be_v call_v mortification_n of_o this_o godly_a prophet_n conversion_n by_o the_o apostle_n himself_o rom._n 2._o circumcision_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o christ_n speak_v of_o repentance_n he_o speak_v of_o it_o under_o the_o name_n of_o conversion_n as_o the_o chief_a part_n of_o repentance_n speak_v to_o the_o man_n of_o galilee_n luk._n 13._o except_o also_o you_o repent_v you_o shall_v all_o perish_v also_o that_o be_v except_o
