evil_n in_o sin_n than_o in_o affliction_n first_o such_o kind_n of_o people_n as_o be_v more_o afraid_a of_o affliction_n than_o of_o sin_n there_o be_v many_o people_n very_o â—hy_a of_o affliction_n and_o solicitous_a to_o prevent_v affliction_n but_o not_o to_o prevent_v sin_n many_o reason_n thus_o i_o have_v need_n be_v a_o good_a husband_n and_o lay_v up_o somewhat_o i_o know_v not_o what_o i_o may_v meet_v withal_o before_o i_o die_v i_o may_v want_v before_o i_o die_v many_o be_v penurious_a and_o covetous_a and_o will_v not_o enlarge_v themselves_o to_o good_a use_n when_o god_n call_v because_o they_o be_v afraid_a they_o and_o their_o child_n may_v want_v before_o they_o die_v who_o know_v what_o we_o may_v meet_v withal_o and_o thus_o they_o be_v careful_a to_o prevent_v affliction_n but_o for_o sin_n they_o do_v not_o lay_v up_o to_o prevent_v that_o whereas_o we_o shall_v be_v very_o solicitous_a lest_o we_o shall_v be_v draw_v into_o temptation_n and_o therefore_o we_o be_v teach_v to_o pray_v lead_v we_o not_o into_o temptation_n as_o well_o as_o forgive_v we_o our_o trespass_n true_a god_n keep_v i_o from_o such_o and_o such_o sin_n but_o what_o if_o god_n shall_v leave_v i_o to_o temptation_n what_o a_o wretched_a creature_n shall_v i_o be_v if_o ever_o this_o corrupt_a heart_n of_o i_o shall_v prevail_v against_o i_o as_o i_o have_v this_o be_v a_o happy_a thing_n indeed_o as_o when_o man_n hear_v of_o one_o that_o be_v break_v they_o will_v inquire_v what_o be_v the_o reason_n he_o have_v such_o a_o estate_n what_o be_v the_o reason_n he_o break_v one_o may_v be_v say_v he_o trust_v servant_n too_o much_o and_o that_o cause_v he_o to_o break_v oh_o this_o will_v cause_v he_o to_o look_v so_o to_o it_o that_o he_o will_v never_o trust_v his_o servant_n too_o much_o another_o may_v be_v say_v because_o he_o live_v above_o his_o mean_n and_o this_o make_v he_o that_o he_o will_v not_o live_v above_o his_o mean_n and_o another_o he_o will_v have_v his_o country_n house_n and_o his_o servant_n riot_n at_o home_n when_o he_o be_v abroad_o and_o another_o he_o trust_v too_o much_o and_o such_o like_a reason_n now_o we_o will_v be_v wise_a to_o take_v heed_n of_o that_o which_o bring_v other_o to_o affliction_n so_o it_o shall_v be_v with_o we_o when_o we_o see_v any_o fall_n into_o sin_n professor_n that_o make_v a_o show_n of_o religion_n and_o afterward_o fall_v foul_o inquire_v now_o what_o be_v the_o matter_n this_o man_n break_v he_o break_v his_o conscience_n what_o be_v the_o matter_n one_o that_o have_v such_o admirable_a gift_n and_o make_v such_o a_o profession_n oh_o may_v be_v all_o the_o time_n he_o have_v a_o proud_a heart_n therefore_o i_o will_v keep_v my_o heart_n humble_a oh_o he_o have_v excellent_a gift_n and_o enlargement_n in_o prayer_n but_o he_o have_v a_o slight_a vain_a spirit_n oh_o let_v i_o take_v heed_n of_o this_o root_n of_o bit_n ternesse_n in_o my_o soul_n grace_n of_o god_n take_v heed_n of_o secret_a sin_n thus_o brethren_n if_o we_o be_v sensible_a of_o the_o evil_a of_o sin_n we_o will_v be_v thus_o careful_a to_o prevent_v the_o evil_n of_o sin_n as_o well_o as_o the_o evil_a of_o affliction_n and_o so_o many_o for_o their_o child_n oh_o they_o will_v be_v provide_v for_o their_o child_n that_o they_o may_v live_v like_o man_n and_o have_v somewhat_o to_o take_v to_o but_o if_o you_o be_v apprehensive_a of_o the_o evil_a of_o sin_n you_o will_v provide_v for_o their_o soul_n as_o well_o as_o their_o body_n and_o therefore_o oh_o let_v i_o put_v he_o in_o a_o good_a family_n and_o there_o he_o may_v learn_v to_o prevent_v sin_n this_o be_v the_o first_o to_o reprove_v those_o that_o labour_n to_o prevent_v affliction_n but_o not_o sin_n second_o it_o serve_v to_o reprove_v those_o that_o be_v careful_a to_o keep_v themselves_o from_o sin_n but_o it_o be_v mere_o for_o fear_n of_o affliction_n only_o upon_o that_o ground_n as_o if_o there_o be_v not_o evil_a enough_o in_o sin_n itself_o but_o all_o the_o evil_n be_v in_o affliction_n certain_o these_o man_n and_o woman_n understand_v not_o this_o that_o there_o be_v more_o evil_a in_o sin_n than_o in_o affliction_n if_o thou_o do_v understand_v and_o be_v sensible_a of_o this_o point_n i_o have_v treat_v upon_o thou_o will_v find_v argument_n enough_o from_o sin_n itself_o to_o keep_v thou_o from_o sin_n though_o no_o affliction_n shall_v follow_v thou_o abstain_v from_o sin_n what_o be_v the_o reason_n not_o because_o of_o any_o great_a evil_n thou_o see_v in_o sin_n but_o because_o of_o affliction_n thy_o conscience_n tell_v thou_o it_o will_v bring_v thou_o to_o trouble_v and_o into_o affliction_n and_o this_o keep_v away_o sin_n it_o be_v true_a it_o be_v good_a for_o man_n and_o woman_n to_o avoid_v sin_n upon_o any_o term_n and_o this_o be_v one_o motive_n god_n propound_v to_o avoid_v sin_n by_o but_o this_o be_v not_o all_o or_o the_o chief_a motive_n because_o of_o affliction_n and_o trouble_v conscience_n tell_v thou_o god_n will_v be_v even_o with_o thou_o and_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n pursue_v thou_o very_o few_o come_v so_o far_o to_o have_v such_o apprehension_n of_o the_o evil_a consequence_n of_o sin_n and_o to_o avoid_v sin_n upon_o they_o ground_n but_o you_o shall_v labour_v not_o only_o to_o avoid_v sin_n from_o the_o evil_a consequence_n of_o sin_n but_o for_o the_o evil_a of_o sin_n itself_o for_o if_o thou_o avoid_v sin_n only_o from_o the_o evil_a consequence_n of_o sin_n know_v 1_o this_o may_v be_v without_o change_n of_o nature_n a_o man_n or_o a_o woman_n may_v be_v in_o such_o a_o estate_n as_o they_o may_v not_o dare_v to_o commit_v some_o sin_n out_o of_o fear_n

power_n of_o any_o sin_n it_o be_v true_a that_o neither_o sin_n nor_o affliction_n be_v to_o be_v choose_v affliction_n in_o itself_o be_v a_o evil_a and_o sin_n be_v a_o evil_a but_o the_o object_n of_o the_o will_n be_v good_a and_o choice_n be_v of_o the_o will_n therefore_o neither_o bare_o consider_v as_o in_o themselves_o can_v be_v choose_v but_o because_o of_o some_o evil_n the_o less_o in_o comparison_n of_o the_o great_a may_v come_v under_o a_o notion_n of_o good_a and_o so_o may_v be_v sometime_o choose_v the_o will_n can_v choose_v any_o thing_n but_o under_o the_o notion_n of_o good_a either_o real_a or_o in_o appearance_n and_o though_o affliction_n be_v in_o itself_o a_o evil_n yet_o in_o regard_n of_o sin_n it_o may_v come_v under_o the_o notion_n of_o good_a and_o that_o be_v to_o be_v choose_v rather_o than_o sin_n now_o this_o be_v the_o work_n i_o have_v to_o do_v to_o make_v out_o this_o conclusion_n to_o you_o that_o any_o affliction_n be_v to_o be_v choose_v it_o clear_a to_o every_o one_o conscience_n that_o there_o be_v more_o evil_a in_o sin_n than_o in_o affliction_n not_o only_o more_o evil_a in_o sin_n than_o in_o outward_a trouble_n in_o the_o world_n but_o more_o evil_a in_o sin_n than_o in_o all_o the_o misery_n and_o torment_n of_o hell_n itself_o suppose_v that_o god_n shall_v bring_v any_o of_o you_o to_o the_o very_a brink_n of_o that_o bottomless_a gulf_n and_o open_v it_o to_o you_o and_o there_o you_o shall_v see_v those_o damn_a creature_n lie_v swelter_a under_o the_o wrath_n of_o the_o infinite_a god_n and_o there_o you_o shall_v hear_v the_o dreadful_a and_o hideous_a cry_n and_o shriek_n of_o those_o that_o be_v under_o such_o soul_n amaze_a and_o soul-sinking_a torment_n through_o the_o wrath_n of_o the_o almighty_a yet_o i_o say_v there_o be_v more_o evil_a in_o one_o sinful_a thought_n than_o there_o be_v in_o all_o these_o everlasting_a burn_n and_o that_o be_v that_o which_o i_o shall_v endeavour_v endure_v this_o to_o have_v their_o flesh_n harrow_v with_o stone_n and_o sharp_a iron_n to_o have_v their_o body_n flay_v and_o then_o throw_v into_o river_n of_o cold_a ice_n and_o a_o thousand_o needs_o be_v the_o chief_a evil_n that_o then_o be_v that_o i_o must_v make_v good_a quest_n how_o do_v it_o appear_v that_o sin_n be_v most_o opposite_a to_o the_o chief_a good_n answ_n brethren_n when_o i_o have_v make_v out_o this_o i_o shall_v show_v sin_n to_o be_v very_o sinful_a and_o the_o great_a venom_n of_o sin_n lie_v in_o this_o one_o thing_n i_o be_o now_o open_v shall_v i_o tell_v there_o be_v no_o great_a matter_n in_o it_o of_o all_o the_o man_n and_o woman_n in_o the_o world_n when_o they_o come_v to_o suffer_v this_o wrath_n it_o will_v be_v dreadful_a to_o they_o because_o it_o come_v unexpected_o they_o that_o go_v on_o merry_o and_o cheerful_o in_o the_o way_n of_o sin_n and_o for_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n never_o think_v of_o it_o now_o then_o when_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n come_v on_o they_o it_o will_v be_v more_o dangerous_a and_o intolerable_a this_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o many_o people_n when_o their_o conscience_n be_v awaken_v upon_o their_o sick_a bed_n than_o they_o despair_v cry_v and_o roar_v under_o god_n wrath_n and_o rage_n with_o despair_n why_o because_o they_o never_o in_o their_o life_n come_v to_o understand_v the_o danger_n of_o of_o god_n work_v towards_o he_o it_o be_v thus_o with_o man_n there_o be_v no_o wise_a man_n that_o do_v any_o great_a work_n manifest_v any_o great_a skill_n or_o lay_v out_o great_a cost_n but_o will_v do_v it_o for_o such_o a_o end_n as_o that_o end_n if_o ever_o it_o be_v attain_v shall_v be_v worth_a all_o his_o cost_n and_o skill_n and_o pain_n for_o a_o wise_a man_n to_o bestow_v much_o cost_n skill_n and_o pain_n upon_o a_o mean_a thing_n be_v absurd_a and_o ridiculous_a and_o no_o wise_a man_n but_o if_o he_o bestow_v much_o cost_n and_o pain_n and_o manifest_v much_o skill_n but_o faithfulness_n and_o set_v at_o work_n all_o his_o counsel_n to_o be_v lay_v out_o upon_o such_o a_o business_n as_o to_o get_v man_n to_o attain_v to_o his_o last_o end_n then_o certain_o man_n end_n and_o happiness_n must_v be_v worth_a it_o all_o and_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v a_o glorious_a thing_n god_n intend_v for_o the_o child_n of_o man_n to_o make_v they_o happy_a withal_o when_o the_o great_a counsel_n of_o god_n and_o way_n of_o god_n wisdom_n and_o power_n be_v so_o about_o this_o business_n of_o bring_v man_n to_o happiness_n now_o if_o there_o be_v such_o a_o glorious_a happiness_n for_o mankind_n then_o that_o which_o be_v most_o opposite_a to_o this_o great_a happiness_n must_v be_v very_o evil_a now_o sin_n direct_o oppose_v man_n happiness_n the_o end_n man_n other_o misery_n than_o that_o misery_n that_o come_v by_o affliction_n and_o they_o make_v affliction_n to_o be_v the_o only_a rule_n and_o measure_n of_o a_o miserable_a condition_n so_o much_o afflict_v so_o miserable_a be_v their_o estate_n and_o so_o little_o afflict_v so_o happy_a be_v their_o estate_n they_o think_v that_o those_o people_n that_o be_v deliver_v from_o affliction_n be_v happy_a people_n and_o those_o people_n that_o be_v under_o affliction_n be_v miserable_a people_n oh_o he_o have_v lose_v his_o estete_n suffer_v shipwreck_n have_v grievous_a disease_n in_o his_o body_n be_v put_v in_o prison_n and_o so_o live_v miserable_o all_o his_o day_n thus_o people_n look_v upon_o man_n and_o woman_n in_o affliction_n as_o if_o they_o be_v only_o miserable_a before_o i_o have_v do_v with_o this_o use_n i_o shall_v i_o hope_v convince_v you_o that_o it_o be_v not_o affliction_n yea_o all_o affliction_n misery_n trouble_v outward_o do_v not_o make_v we_o miserable_a unhappiness_n by_o these_o outward_a thing_n you_o shall_v have_v many_o people_n when_o they_o see_v man_n and_o woman_n very_o poor_a that_o have_v no_o house_n nor_o clothes_n nor_o meat_n and_o drink_n that_o be_v fain_o to_o work_v hard_o for_o their_o live_n that_o be_v sickly_a and_o weak_a oh_o they_o be_v in_o a_o pitiful_a condition_n but_o when_o they_o see_v other_o provide_v of_o house_n and_o land_n that_o have_v attendance_n and_o be_v gorgeous_o attire_v brave_a diet_n and_o good_a trade_n these_o be_v happy_a man_n now_o the_o point_n that_o have_v be_v open_v to_o you_o will_v serve_v to_o rectify_v your_o judgement_n in_o these_o thing_n and_o not_o to_o make_v affliction_n or_o no_o affliction_n to_o be_v the_o rule_n of_o happiness_n but_o to_o make_v sin_n or_o no_o sin_n or_o less_o sin_n to_o be_v the_o rule_n of_o judge_v of_o the_o happiness_n of_o our_o condition_n it_o be_v the_o speech_n of_o luther_n one_o drop_n of_o a_o evil_a conscience_n be_v enough_o to_o swallow_v up_o all_o the_o joy_n in_o the_o world_n all_o the_o prosperity_n in_o the_o world_n there_o be_v so_o much_o evil_n in_o sin_n that_o though_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n have_v all_o the_o joy_n and_o prosperity_n that_o possible_o the_o world_n can_v afford_v yet_o one_o drop_n of_o a_o evil_a conscience_n the_o guilt_n of_o one_o sin_n in_o a_o evil_a conscience_n be_v between_o they_o and_o preferment_n how_o have_v they_o get_v it_o and_o think_v themselussafe_v when_o they_o have_v get_v live_n and_o preferment_n oh_o these_o man_n be_v miserable_a and_o therefore_o miserable_a because_o prefer_v because_o prosper_v in_o their_o heart_n desire_v and_o so_o for_o man_n that_o get_v riches_n and_o estate_n otherwise_o than_o by_o right_n by_o deceit_n and_o oppression_n in_o any_o sinful_a wicked_a way_n it_o may_v be_v now_o they_o have_v get_v fair_a house_n and_o well_o furnish_v and_o mean_n come_v in_o and_o they_o bless_v themselves_o and_o think_v now_o they_o be_v happy_a yea_o and_o other_o also_o they_o think_v they_o happy_a and_o live_v brave_o in_o the_o world_n but_o if_o you_o know_v all_o you_o will_v look_v upon_o these_o man_n as_o most_o wretched_a curse_a creature_n certain_o those_o man_n will_v one_o day_n curse_v the_o time_n that_o ever_o they_o have_v such_o a_o estate_n and_o will_v wish_v rather_o that_o they_o have_v beg_v their_o

point_n that_o say_v there_o be_v more_o evil_a in_o sin_n than_o in_o affliction_n and_o yet_o when_o you_o be_v under_o affliction_n you_o be_v more_o sensible_a of_o the_o evil_a of_o affliction_n than_o of_o sin_n there_o be_v divers_a sort_n of_o these_o and_o divers_a thing_n to_o be_v say_v to_o these_o 1_o as_o some_o profane_a wicked_a man_n that_o commit_v horrible_a wickedness_n that_o
