mind_n for_o i_o delight_v in_o the_o law_n of_o god_n after_o the_o inner_a man_n of_o my_o mind_n and_o conscience_n 22._o 23._o but_o all_o this_o while_n i_o only_o approve_v of_o it_o but_o no_o more_o for_o all_o the_o effect_n which_o it_o have_v upon_o i_o be_v only_o to_o create_v a_o like_n of_o it_o in_o my_o mind_n but_o as_o for_o my_o practice_n and_o outward_a performance_n it_o be_v under_o another_o power_n for_o i_o see_v another_o opposite_a law_n viz._n that_o of_o lust_n and_o sin_n which_o be_v seat_v in_o my_o bodily_a member_n not_o only_a war_a against_o the_o law_n of_o god_n in_o my_o mind_n but_o conquer_a also_o and_o prevail_v over_o it_o bring_v i_o into_o captivity_n that_o absolute_a sort_n of_o subjection_n and_o slavery_n to_o practice_v the_o law_n of_o sin_n which_o be_v seat_v in_o my_o member_n and_o since_o i_o be_o so_o far_o enslave_v to_o the_o law_n of_o lust_n and_o sin_n when_o the_o law_n of_o god_n undertake_v i_o 24._o that_o even_o that_o law_n itself_o which_o god_n have_v appoint_v for_o my_o remedy_n be_v not_o able_a to_o rescue_v and_o deliver_v i_o i_o have_v too_o great_a reason_n to_o cry_v out_o o_o wretched_a man_n that_o i_o be_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o since_o this_o law_n give_v i_o by_o moses_n be_v not_o able_a to_o do_v it_o from_o the_o slavery_n and_o misery_n of_o this_o body_n of_o death_n 25._o this_o indeed_o be_v our_o condition_n under_o the_o law_n which_o show_v at_o once_o the_o law_n holiness_n and_o goodness_n and_o withal_o its_o inability_n and_o weakness_n because_o notwithstanding_o it_o offer_v some_o grace_n yet_o be_v not_o that_o enough_o but_o that_o during_o our_o subjection_n under_o it_o we_o common_o serve_v sin_n still_o but_o now_o as_o for_o that_o slavish_a service_n of_o sin_n which_o a_o bare_a jew_n who_o have_v no_o other_o help_n against_o it_o but_o moses_n law_n complain_v of_o and_o belong_v to_o be_v deliver_v from_o that_o as_o i_o subject_n unto_o christ_n instead_o of_o the_o law_n you_o shall_v become_v servant_n of_o god_n instead_o of_o serve_v sin_n i_o thank_v god_n there_o be_v a_o way_n now_o in_o christ_n for_o such_o deliverance_n or_o as_o it_o be_v read_v by_o some_o copy_n vers._n the_o grace_n of_o god_n which_o come_v through_o jesus_n christ_n our_o lord_n shall_v deliver_v you_o although_o the_o law_n can_v from_o whence_o we_o have_v hitherto_o divert_v to_o answer_v this_o objection_n i_o say_v have_v by_o this_o passage_n from_o subjection_n to_o the_o law_n to_o subjection_n unto_o christ_n upon_o towards_o our_o deliverance_n from_o the_o service_n of_o sin_n 3._o in_o that_o it_o be_v too_o weak_a through_o the_o overpower_a wickedness_n of_o the_o law_n of_o lust_n in_o the_o flesh_n even_o subject_n must_v be_v his_o servant_n likewise_o and_o in_o our_o work_n and_o practice_n walk_v not_o after_o the_o lust_n of_o the_o flesh_n but_o after_o the_o motion_n of_o the_o spirit_n thus_o have_v i_o give_v a_o paraphrase_n upon_o this_o involve_a and_o so_o much_o mistake_v chapter_n wherein_o i_o have_v large_o and_o as_o i_o hope_v true_o represent_v the_o apostle_n meaning_n his_o design_n and_o manner_n of_o argue_v in_o this_o place_n in_o all_o which_o we_o see_v he_o intend_v not_o at_o all_o to_o give_v a_o character_n of_o himself_o or_o of_o any_o other_o regenerate_v man_n but_o only_o of_o a_o middling_a sinner_n who_o sin_n against_o his_o conscience_n and_o transgress_v with_o reluctance_n which_o transgressor_n of_o a_o middle_a rank_n he_o particular_o represent_v under_o the_o person_n of_o a_o awake_v but_o as_o yet_o unregenerate_a jew_n who_o be_v one_o on_o who_o the_o law_n of_o moses_n have_v wrought_v some_o change_n but_o can_v not_o work_v enough_o be_v able_a only_o to_o awaken_v his_o conscience_n but_o not_o to_o reform_v his_o practice_n so_o that_o all_o that_o be_v there_o say_v in_o that_o seven_o chapter_n of_o willing_a but_o not_o perform_v etc._n etc._n only_o set_v off_o the_o weakness_n and_o imperfection_n of_o the_o law_n of_o moses_n as_o to_o the_o make_v man_n complete_o obedient_a

every_o man_n duty_n in_o every_o man_n breast_n to_o tell_v he_o upon_o every_o occasion_n what_o he_o require_v from_o he_o and_o till_o such_o time_n as_o man_n have_v debauch_v their_o understanding_n into_o a_o gross_a mistake_n of_o their_o duty_n so_o as_o to_o call_v evil_a good_a and_o good_a evil_n and_o god_n in_o his_o just_a anger_n have_v give_v they_o up_o to_o a_o reprobate_a mind_n or_o a_o mind_n 1.28_o void_a of_o judgement_n their_o own_o conscience_n will_v keep_v they_o in_o mind_n of_o god_n law_n and_o not_o suffer_v they_o to_o transgress_v without_o reproof_n so_o that_o every_o wilful_a sin_n be_v a_o sin_n against_o a_o man_n own_o mind_n or_o conscience_n nay_o further_o so_o long_o as_o man_n heart_n be_v soft_a and_o their_o conscience_n be_v tender_a and_o before_o such_o time_n as_o they_o be_v whole_o enslave_v to_o their_o appetite_n and_o quite_o harden_v in_o sin_n their_o conscience_n especial_o in_o some_o great_a and_o frightful_a instance_n will_v not_o only_o suggest_v and_o represent_v their_o duty_n but_o argue_v also_o and_o debate_v against_o their_o lust_n for_o the_o practice_n and_o performance_n of_o it_o and_o then_o man_n be_v not_o win_v at_o the_o first_o offer_n nor_o consent_n to_o fulfil_v the_o sin_n upon_o the_o first_o assault_n of_o the_o temptation_n but_o be_v draw_v in_o after_o a_o long_a deliberation_n and_o debate_n and_o dispute_v the_o matter_n with_o themselves_o before_o they_o submit_v to_o it_o for_o when_o man_n conscience_n do_v not_o naked_o suggest_v but_o moreover_o plead_v the_o cause_n and_o urge_v the_o observance_n of_o their_o duty_n there_o be_v argument_n on_o both_o side_n to_o render_v the_o choice_n at_o first_o somewhat_o doubtful_a the_o law_n of_o god_n promise_v a_o infinite_a reward_n to_o the_o action_n of_o obedience_n and_o threaten_v a_o endless_a punishment_n if_o we_o disobey_v both_o which_o be_v future_a and_o to_o be_v expect_v in_o the_o next_o world_n and_o the_o temptation_n induce_v we_o to_o sin_n present_v we_o with_o a_o fair_a show_n of_o sensitiv_a pleasure_n profit_n or_o honour_n if_o we_o practise_v and_o threaten_v we_o with_o all_o the_o contrary_a evil_n if_o we_o neglect_v it_o both_o which_o it_o set_v before_o we_o as_o thing_n present_a to_o be_v feel_v and_o enjoy_v by_o we_o even_o now_o whilst_o we_o be_v here_o in_o this_o world_n now_o these_o be_v great_a motive_n on_o both_o side_n each_o of_o they_o bid_v fair_a for_o our_o consent_n our_o mind_n or_o conscience_n suggest_v the_o first_o and_o our_o fleshly_a appetite_n and_o carnal_a reason_n represent_v the_o latter_a and_o for_o a_o good_a while_o these_o two_o advocate_n solicit_v the_o cause_n on_o both_o side_n and_o distract_v and_o divide_v our_o will_n between_o they_o so_o that_o when_o at_o last_o the_o temptation_n do_v overcome_v and_o the_o law_n of_o lust_n in_o the_o member_n prevail_v over_o the_o law_n of_o god_n in_o the_o mind_n yet_o be_v that_o after_o a_o strife_n and_o a_o war_n after_o a_o tedious_a toil_n and_o much_o contention_n and_o these_o wilful_a sin_n because_o we_o undergo_v a_o great_a conflict_n in_o our_o own_o mind_n about_o they_o and_o past_a through_o a_o long_a deliberation_n in_o a_o alternate_a succession_n of_o desire_n and_o aversation_n hope_n and_o fear_n imperfect_a choice_n and_o refusal_n ere_o the_o consent_n of_o our_o will_n be_v gain_v over_o to_o the_o commission_n of_o they_o be_v call_v deliberate_a sin_n every_o wilful_a choose_a sin_n than_o be_v a_o sin_n against_o knowledge_n and_o against_o conscience_n when_o our_o own_o heart_n rebuke_n and_o check_n we_o at_o the_o time_n of_o sin_v tell_v we_o that_o god_n have_v forbid_v that_o which_o we_o be_v about_o to_o do_v notwithstanding_o which_o we_o presume_v to_o do_v it_o and_o if_o it_o happen_v to_o be_v in_o a_o instance_n that_o be_v great_o criminal_a and_o frightful_a unto_o conscience_n which_o therefore_o put_v we_o upon_o demur_n and_o create_v dispute_v and_o argue_v then_o be_v it_o not_o only_o a_o know_v but_o a_o deliberate_a sin_n also_o nay_o where_o we_o have_v time_n and_o there_o be_v a_o sufficient_a space_n to_o consider_v in_o between_o the_o opportunity_n and_o the_o action_n if_o we_o know_v that_o the_o action_n be_v sinful_a and_o be_v not_o in_o
last_o and_o will_v trouble_v himself_o no_o more_o about_o they_o but_o leave_v they_o whole_o to_o themselves_o and_o this_o god_n plain_o intimate_v concern_v incorrigible_a ephraim_n who_o be_v just_a then_o about_o to_o be_v abandon_v and_o to_o be_v give_v up_o to_o the_o unmasterable_a wickedness_n of_o his_o own_o heart_n how_o shall_v i_o give_v thou_o up_o say_v he_o o_o ephraim_n how_o shall_v i_o deliver_v thou_o o_o israel_n hos._n 11.8_o and_o our_o saviour_n say_v the_o same_o over_o intractable_a jerusalem_n o_o if_o thou_o have_v but_o know_v at_o least_o in_o this_o thy_o day_n the_o thing_n that_o belong_v unto_o thy_o peace_n with_o god_n but_o now_o it_o be_v too_o late_o for_o they_o be_v hide_v from_o thy_o eye_n luk._n 19.42_o this_o i_o confess_v be_v a_o state_n of_o sin_n which_o be_v desperate_a and_o irrecoverable_a not_o for_o that_o repentance_n be_v no_o sure_a mean_n of_o remission_n but_o because_o when_o once_o man_n be_v come_v thus_o far_o god_fw-we desert_n they_o so_o that_o they_o never_o can_v repent_v of_o they_o but_o as_o for_o the_o time_n when_o any_o man_n be_v come_v up_o to_o this_o unpardonable_a pitch_n that_o only_a god_n in_o heaven_n know_v no_o man_n can_v say_v i_o be_o beyond_o my_o time_n of_o repentance_n because_o without_o a_o special_a revelation_n no_o man_n can_v understand_v it_o and_o therefore_o let_v a_o man_n have_v sin_v never_o so_o long_o yet_o can_v that_o discourage_v he_o from_o repent_v because_o if_o he_o set_v himself_o serious_o about_o it_o for_o aught_o he_o know_v god_n will_v pity_v he_o and_o afford_v he_o his_o grace_n and_o spirit_n which_o be_v never_o want_v to_o such_o as_o hearty_o desire_v it_o to_o aid_v and_o strengthen_v he_o in_o his_o repentance_n nay_o indeed_o if_o a_o man_n be_v come_v so_o far_o as_o to_o bethink_v himself_o and_o to_o be_v apprehensive_a of_o his_o danger_n and_o to_o be_v convince_v of_o the_o destructiveness_n of_o his_o sinful_a course_n there_o be_v no_o question_n to_o be_v make_v but_o that_o he_o will_n for_o the_o tide_n be_v turn_v and_o the_o change_n be_v begin_v already_o and_o that_o be_v a_o thing_n which_o need_v god_n grace_n as_o much_o as_o any_o thing_n that_o be_v yet_o remain_v for_o a_o career_n in_o wickedness_n be_v like_o run_v down_o hill_n the_o great_a difficulty_n be_v to_o make_v the_o first_o stop_n that_o his_o time_n of_o grace_n be_v not_o past_a he_o may_v be_v sure_a it_o be_v still_o with_o he_o because_o it_o help_v and_o work_n in_o he_o for_o it_o be_v grace_n that_o bring_v he_o on_o to_o what_o he_o be_v and_o if_o he_o be_v but_o as_o willing_a to_o be_v aid_v by_o it_o as_o it_o be_v ready_a to_o assist_v he_o it_o will_v not_o fail_v to_o carry_v he_o on_o further_a god_n
