his_o utmost_a end_n but_o the_o christian_n true_a character_n be_v in_o this_o love_n to_o god_n be_v the_o great_a principle_n he_o act_v by_o and_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n be_v the_o great_a end_n he_o aim_v at_o i_o may_v here_o answer_v a_o case_n of_o conscience_n conscience_n case_n of_o conscience_n whether_o a_o man_n ought_v always_o actual_o to_o intend_v his_o ultimate_a end_n that_o be_v whether_o he_o ought_v to_o have_v his_o eye_n continual_o upon_o the_o glorify_v of_o god_n in_o every_o particular_a duty_n which_o he_o perform_v answ_n 1_o a._n 1._o affirmative_a precept_n though_o they_o always_o bind_v yet_o they_o bound_v not_o to_o all_o time_n now_o this_o be_v a_o duty_n by_o virtue_n of_o a_o affirmative_a precept_n it_o be_v always_o a_o duty_n yet_o not_o absolute_o necessary_a in_o every_o particular_a act_n indeed_o as_o the_o affirmative_a do_v include_v a_o negative_a so_o it_o bind_v ad_fw-la semper_fw-la to_o all_o time_n so_o that_o we_o must_v at_o no_o time_n do_v any_o thing_n against_o god_n glory_n that_o may_v reflect_v any_o dishonour_n upon_o he_o 2._o there_o be_v need_n of_o a_o distinction_n for_o the_o full_a resolution_n of_o this_o case_n aim_n and_o intention_n with_o respect_n to_o their_o end_n be_v either_o habitual_a or_o actual_a or_o virtual_a 1._o habitual_a the_o work_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o heart_n be_v to_o change_v and_o sublimate_v our_o end_n so_o that_o wherever_o grace_n be_v there_o be_v a_o habitual_a scope_n and_o aim_n at_o god_n glory_n as_o the_o end_n of_o all_o obedience_n but_o this_o be_v not_o sufficient_a 2._o there_o be_v a_o actual_a aim_n at_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n in_o each_o particular_a performance_n now_o this_o can_v be_v the_o duty_n of_o a_o believer_n in_o his_o present_a imperfect_a state_n for_o three_o reason_n 1._o because_o it_o will_v leave_v no_o place_n for_o other_o duty_n 2._o it_o be_v not_o absolute_o necessary_a in_o every_o particular_a act_n though_o it_o ought_v to_o be_v frequent_o do_v yet_o it_o be_v not_o so_o necessary_a in_o every_o duty_n as_o that_o it_o cease_v to_o be_v a_o act_n of_o obedience_n if_o it_o be_v not_o actual_o do_v if_o a_o man_n make_v a_o voyage_n to_o the_o indies_n his_o aim_n and_o design_n be_v to_o be_v there_o in_o such_o a_o time_n and_o according_o he_o set_v sail_n in_o pursuance_n of_o his_o end_n yet_o his_o end_n be_v not_o in_o his_o eye_n in_o every_o action_n he_o do_v in_o steer_v and_o guide_v the_o vessel_n so_o it_o be_v in_o this_o case_n the_o design_n of_o a_o christian_a be_v the_o glory_n of_o god_n in_o all_o his_o action_n though_o he_o may_v not_o actual_o aim_v at_o it_o in_o every_o particular_a performance_n 3._o it_o be_v impossible_a to_o perform_v it_o where_o there_o be_v a_o constant_a lust_a of_o the_o flesh_n against_o the_o spirit_n as_o be_v in_o every_o believer_n 5.17_o gal._n 5.17_o and_o therefore_o a_o further_a work_n of_o grace_n must_v pass_v upon_o the_o regenerate_a soul_n then_o can_v be_v attain_v in_o this_o state_n to_o enable_v it_o hereto_o and_o that_o be_v in_o glorification_n whereby_o grace_n be_v complete_v and_o free_v from_o all_o mixture_n of_o flesh_n and_o interruption_n in_o its_o act_n by_o temptation_n saint_n in_o heaven_n do_v actual_o intend_v the_o glory_n of_o god_n in_o every_o thing_n they_o do_v and_o no_o wonder_n for_o they_o see_v face_n to_o face_n they_o be_v hold_v close_o to_o god_n by_o a_o immediate_a and_o uninterrupted_a vision_n therefore_o the_o holy_a ghost_n put_v these_o two_o sight_n and_o service_n together_o revel_v 22.3_o 4._o his_o servant_n shall_v serve_v he_o and_o they_o shall_v see_v his_o face_n they_o shall_v serve_v he_o so_o they_o do_v here_o i_o but_o there_o they_o shall_v serve_v he_o perfect_o with_o purity_n of_o intention_n and_o compleatness_n of_o performance_n and_o how_o so_o they_o shall_v see_v he_o immediate_o and_o enjoy_v he_o full_o god_n be_v poor_a neighbour_n do_v therein_o virtual_o aim_v at_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n when_o a_o man_n by_o his_o repentance_n and_o mourn_v for_o sin_n actual_o aim_v at_o the_o obtain_n of_o pardon_n and_o forgiveness_n the_o tendency_n of_o his_o action_n be_v to_o a_o end_n subordinate_a to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n for_o it_o be_v the_o glory_n of_o god_n to_o forgive_v sin_n so_o then_o i_o will_v resolve_v the_o case_n thus_o to_o intend_v the_o glory_n of_o god_n habitual_o be_v not_o enough_o for_o a_o believer_n to_o do_v to_o intend_v it_o in_o every_o particular_a duty_n actual_o be_v more_o than_o a_o believer_n can_v do_v but_o to_o intend_v it_o in_o each_o duty_n virtual_o and_o as_o oft_o as_o we_o can_v actual_o this_o be_v a_o believer_n present_a duty_n and_o obedience_n thus_o perform_v shall_v certain_o find_v acceptation_n with_o god_n and_o so_o much_o for_o the_o second_o direction_n to_o such_o as_o be_v under_o christ_n yoke_n that_o they_o will_v labour_v to_o bear_v it_o becoming_o which_o be_v do_v when_o obedience_n be_v from_o right_a principle_n and_o consist_v in_o proper_a performance_n and_o all_o be_v do_v in_o a_o due_a manner_n
