deny_v but_o that_o as_o in_o other_o state_n 5._o so_o there_o be_v many_o hypocrite_n among_o servant_n who_o make_v profession_n of_o religion_n as_o gehazai_n and_o many_o do_v who_o we_o read_v of_o against_o who_o i_o denounce_v by_o the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n that_o they_o shall_v bear_v the_o punishment_n of_o their_o iniquity_n but_o to_o grow_v to_o this_o absurdity_n from_o thence_o that_o all_o religious_a servant_n be_v such_o and_o that_o they_o will_v not_o choose_v such_o to_o be_v servant_n to_o they_o the_o least_o sin_n that_o it_o can_v be_v make_v be_v that_o it_o be_v a_o rash_a and_o a_o carnal_a speech_n and_o so_o much_o the_o more_o faulty_a by_o how_o much_o he_o that_o utter_v it_o go_v for_o the_o better_a protestant_n for_o such_o declare_v that_o so_o their_o business_n be_v do_v they_o can_v bear_v any_o rudeness_n brutishness_n and_o disorder_n in_o their_o servant_n and_o so_o the_o dishonour_v of_o god_n thereby_o for_o all_o such_o behaviour_n must_v be_v look_v for_o more_o or_o less_o in_o such_o as_o be_v not_o religious_a but_o common_o such_o master_n be_v just_o meet_v with_o by_o the_o servant_n who_o they_o so_o prefer_v before_o those_o which_o be_v religious_a again_o whereas_o they_o in_o that_o speech_n condemn_v all_o which_o profess_v it_o be_v well_o know_v that_o there_o be_v many_o servant_n who_o in_o their_o particular_a call_n in_o that_o they_o be_v servant_n as_o well_o as_o in_o their_o general_n that_o they_o be_v christian_n do_v glorify_v god_n high_o and_o shine_v as_o light_n in_o their_o place_n to_o the_o shame_n of_o their_o accuser_n and_o yet_o such_o master_n may_v judge_v of_o their_o servant_n religious_a and_o christian_n practice_n by_o their_o own_o that_o all_o duty_n be_v not_o by_o and_o by_o to_o be_v look_v for_o at_o their_o hand_n which_o have_v some_o love_n and_o like_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v they_o themselves_o so_o unblameable_a in_o their_o whole_a course_n that_o other_o may_v not_o see_v as_o great_a want_n and_o fault_n in_o they_o as_o they_o see_v in_o servant_n it_o be_v to_o be_v fear_v that_o such_o who_o will_v so_o speak_v as_o i_o have_v show_v do_v not_o give_v they_o always_o the_o best_a example_n but_o if_o they_o do_v let_v they_o catechise_v they_o also_o beside_o the_o public_a teach_n which_o they_o enjoy_v who_o be_v already_o willing_a to_o live_v christian_o yet_o if_o they_o be_v not_o diligent_o and_o love_o teach_v can_v so_o soon_o be_v bring_v to_o any_o great_a perfection_n and_o this_o be_v do_v let_v they_o prove_v whether_o religious_a or_o profane_a be_v the_o best_a servant_n last_o of_o man_n vocation_n this_o i_o add_v that_o i_o have_v not_o so_o urge_v the_o necessity_n of_o labour_v in_o it_o but_o that_o if_o some_o through_o extreme_a poverty_n &_o want_n of_o stock_n be_v enforce_v to_o give_v over_o occupy_v as_o have_v no_o other_o remedy_n through_o the_o hardness_n of_o their_o and_o renounce_v the_o same_o pray_v for_o christ_n sake_n to_o be_v pardon_v that_o i_o may_v lie_v down_o in_o peace_n the_o second_o thing_n which_o i_o say_v i_o will_v add_v be_v the_o use_n of_o this_o doctrine_n for_o the_o use_n of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o this_o treatise_n treatise_n of_o daily_o guide_v thy_o soul_n and_o life_n it_o may_v be_v gather_v out_o of_o that_o which_o have_v every_o day_n and_o through_o the_o day_n thou_o wean_v and_o withdraw_v thy_o heart_n from_o any_o such_o noisome_a bait_n or_o provocation_n as_o suffer_v thou_o not_o to_o arise_v in_o the_o morning_n to_o walk_v through_o the_o day_n and_o to_o lie_v down_o at_o night_n in_o peace_n and_o safety_n under_o god_n protection_n and_o every_o day_n i_o still_o say_v wish_v thou_o to_o remember_v that_o if_o thou_o be_v negligent_a and_o careless_a but_o one_o day_n that_o may_v fall_v on_o thou_o to_o vex_v thou_o long_o after_o which_o shall_v not_o else_o fall_v out_o in_o thy_o whole_a life_n and_o that_o part_n of_o life_n
understand_v or_o to_o practice_v for_o although_o many_o shall_v have_v no_o need_n of_o this_o direct_n of_o they_o to_o read_v it_o with_o profit_n because_o they_o can_v easy_o direct_v themselves_o when_o they_o once_o know_v the_o general_a part_n and_o argument_n of_o it_o as_o before_o be_v mention_v yet_o because_o my_o desire_n herein_o be_v as_o well_o to_o help_v and_o benefit_v the_o plain_a and_o simple_a such_o as_o many_o of_o they_o be_v among_o who_o i_o have_v preach_v the_o same_o as_o well_o as_o to_o bring_v the_o wise_a and_o more_o learned_a sort_n acquaint_v with_o the_o practice_n of_o it_o therefore_o i_o know_v they_o shall_v have_v need_n thereof_o now_o when_o they_o shall_v understand_v it_o in_o some_o good_a sort_n let_v they_o weigh_v and_o consider_v how_o far_o forth_o they_o have_v have_v use_n of_o it_o heretofore_o as_o whether_o they_o have_v according_a to_o the_o first_o part_n of_o this_o book_n by_o the_o ministry_n of_o any_o sound_a preacher_n of_o the_o gospel_n attain_v to_o the_o assurance_n of_o their_o salvation_n and_o of_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o their_o sin_n wherein_o if_o any_o will_v take_v it_o as_o grant_v though_o false_o as_o they_o be_v most_o ready_a to_o do_v so_o who_o have_v lest_o feel_v the_o burden_n of_o their_o sin_n and_o therefore_o be_v indeed_o further_a off_o from_o it_o herein_o i_o say_v if_o any_o will_v needs_o deceive_v themselves_o i_o can_v help_v it_o but_o they_o be_v like_a to_o read_v the_o rest_n with_o less_o fruit_n and_o comfort_n and_o to_o go_v without_o the_o use_n of_o it_o in_o their_o life_n whatsoever_o they_o hope_v for_o and_o therefore_o such_o i_o advise_v to_o take_v most_o pain_n in_o the_o first_o part_n i_o mean_v in_o the_o doctrine_n of_o it_o and_o read_v other_o treatise_n concern_v the_o matter_n as_o master_n mores_n and_o other_o catechism_n and_o master_n perkins_n work_v namely_o his_o book_n entitle_v the_o grain_n of_o mustard_n seed_n and_o to_o raise_v all_o the_o doubt_n they_o can_v to_o any_o experience_a teacher_n or_o brother_n and_o to_o look_v for_o and_o see_v those_o thing_n work_v upon_o they_o which_o be_v teach_v there_o both_o the_o doctrine_n of_o humiliation_n and_o also_o of_o justification_n and_o deliverance_n if_o this_o be_v attain_v let_v they_o consider_v for_o the_o better_a assure_v themselves_o hereof_o that_o they_o can_v but_o affect_v love_n embrace_v and_o delight_n in_o the_o doctrine_n of_o sanctification_n and_o repentance_n from_o dead_a work_n i_o mean_v they_o shall_v desire_v to_o practice_v the_o godly_a and_o christian_n life_n when_o they_o see_v that_o it_o be_v the_o commandment_n of_o he_o who_o love_v they_o most_o dear_o and_o what_o it_o be_v and_o wherein_o it_o consist_v which_o be_v the_o sum_n of_o the_o second_o treatise_n of_o this_o book_n and_o to_o this_o end_n let_v they_o read_v and_o by_o mark_v seek_v as_o such_o who_o will_v find_v that_o they_o may_v see_v what_o sin_n there_o be_v in_o they_o which_o they_o be_v not_o willing_a nor_o desirous_a to_o forsake_v if_o there_o be_v any_o or_o among_o duty_n general_o appertain_v to_o all_o or_o particular_o touch_v themselves_o which_o they_o can_v submit_v themselves_o unto_o if_o there_o be_v either_o of_o these_o find_v in_o they_o as_o that_o they_o account_n of_o we_o 5.18_o and_o conscience_n make_v of_o one_o as_o well_o as_o of_o another_o which_o if_o they_o see_v and_o acknowledge_v according_a to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n they_o can_v but_o submit_v themselves_o thereunto_o if_o they_o have_v right_o embrace_v the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o former_a treatise_n that_o as_o in_o judgement_n and_o knowledge_n they_o yield_v so_o their_o heart_n and_o affection_n may_v go_v with_o the_o same_o and_o so_o do_v god_n will_v work_v in_o they_o by_o little_a and_o little_a seek_v it_o by_o prayer_n of_o faith_n even_o as_o he_o wrought_v the_o like_a in_o they_o before_o and_o weaken_v such_o rebelliousnes_n in_o their_o heart_n already_o if_o therefore_o the_o teachable_a and_o christian_n reader_n be_v thus_o far_o wrought_v upon_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n that_o he_o thus_o favour_n approve_v and_o give_v over_o himself_o to_o be_v make_v true_o repentant_a which_o be_v that_o that_o be_v require_v in_o the_o second_o treatise_n of_o this_o book_n then_o be_v he_o fit_a to_o occupy_v himself_o about_o and_o to_o be_v conversant_a in_o the_o three_o and_o four_o part_n of_o it_o that_o be_v to_o say_v in_o the_o doctrine_n which_o require_v a_o daily_a walk_n in_o a_o christian_a course_n by_o the_o use_n of_o such_o help_n as_o be_v appoint_v of_o god_n for_o that_o purpose_n and_o some_o of_o they_o also_o daily_o as_o in_o the_o proper_a place_n shall_v appear_v for_o every_o true_a christian_a be_v to_o know_v that_o the_o religion_n and_o worship_n of_o god_n must_v be_v in_o use_n and_o practice_v among_o the_o imbracer_n of_o it_o as_o well_o one_o day_n as_o another_o but_o how_o shall_v any_o be_v able_a to_o keep_v his_o heart_n in_o frame_n and_o reform_v his_o life_n daily_o by_o the_o mean_n which_o god_n have_v appoint_v as_o in_o the_o three_o and_o four_o part_n of_o this_o book_n be_v require_v except_o he_o be_v first_o a_o like_a and_o a_o allower_n of_o all_o know_a point_n of_o duty_n and_o do_v hearty_o renounce_v all_o evil_a as_o be_v require_v in_o the_o second_o part_n which_o be_v do_v let_v he_o look_v to_o grow_v daily_o more_o strong_a in_o faith_n whereby_o he_o may_v hold_v and_o keep_v fast_o the_o certainty_n of_o god_n favour_n daily_o and_o constant_o and_o not_o as_o too_o many_o and_o yet_o the_o people_n of_o god_n do_v who_o be_v not_o acquaint_v with_o this_o that_o their_o confidence_n shall_v be_v maintain_v daily_o or_o a_o good_a conscience_n in_o their_o particular_a action_n regard_v and_o that_o on_o one_o day_n as_o another_o but_o think_v it_o enough_o at_o sometime_o to_o have_v this_o care_n neither_o let_v any_o look_v to_o repel_v this_o as_o too_o strict_a under_o pretence_n of_o weighty_a affair_n and_o their_o own_o infirmity_n for_o this_o be_v but_o the_o delusion_n of_o the_o devil_n as_o shall_v be_v show_v who_o will_v easy_o persuade_v it_o to_o be_v more_o than_o need_v this_o be_v that_o which_o must_v be_v learn_v out_o of_o the_o three_o and_o four_o part_n and_o when_o this_o be_v understand_v approve_a consent_v unto_o and_o aim_v at_o the_o five_o part_n of_o the_o book_n shall_v be_v clear_a and_o easy_a to_o understand_v and_o what_o use_n he_o shall_v make_v of_o it_o namely_o of_o the_o let_v and_o hindrance_n which_o the_o devil_n raise_v up_o to_o hold_v he_o back_o from_o this_o course_n of_o life_n and_o the_o practice_n of_o the_o same_o of_o the_o which_o some_o i_o will_v set_v down_o and_o help_v he_o the_o better_a to_o know_v many_o other_o thereby_o and_o he_o that_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o direct_v his_o life_n and_o take_v heed_n to_o his_o way_n as_o he_o shall_v by_o god_n word_n be_v teach_v shall_v break_v through_o many_o of_o the_o let_v which_o yet_o shall_v strong_o hold_v back_o and_o hinder_v other_o man_n as_o the_o five_o part_n will_v show_v and_o if_o he_o be_v for_o a_o season_n withdraw_v from_o a_o godly_a course_n yet_o he_o shall_v there_o find_v help_n and_o remedy_n to_o recover_v again_o and_o little_a ease_n otherwise_o and_o if_o there_o be_v any_o difficulty_n in_o conform_v a_o man_n self_n after_o this_o forementioned_a doctrine_n as_o i_o deny_v not_o but_o the_o flesh_n will_v find_v many_o yet_o against_o they_o all_o let_v he_o proceed_v and_o read_v with_o good_a regard_n the_o six_o treatise_n wherein_o be_v set_v down_o the_o manifold_a and_o goodly_a prerogative_n and_o privilege_n which_o god_n have_v bequeath_v to_o his_o people_n to_o hearten_v they_o on_o and_o encourage_v they_o to_o godliness_n and_o to_o make_v the_o christian_n life_n easy_a and_o he_o shall_v see_v great_a light_n and_o find_v exceed_a force_n therein_o to_o stir_v he_o up_o to_o go_v forward_o mighty_o against_o all_o faint_a and_o then_o he_o shall_v not_o be_v move_v for_o all_o the_o objection_n cavil_n and_o fleshly_a reason_n which_o he_o shall_v read_v in_o the_o seven_o part_n for_o the_o comfort_n and_o experience_n which_o he_o shall_v partly_o enjoy_v
and_o to_o think_v that_o as_o the_o gift_n of_o faith_n be_v most_o excellent_a so_o there_o can_v be_v too_o great_a help_n yield_v to_o the_o weak_a in_o direct_v they_o to_o come_v by_o it_o concern_v the_o first_o therefore_o although_o i_o have_v by_o sundry_a token_n show_v who_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n and_o how_o every_o faithful_a christian_a may_v judge_v of_o himself_o hereby_o yet_o for_o want_v of_o experience_n and_o by_o vehemency_n of_o temptation_n they_o can_v so_o bold_o and_o confident_o rest_n and_o stay_v themselves_o by_o general_a doctrine_n nor_o apply_v it_o to_o themselves_o those_o i_o mean_v which_o be_v weak_a christian_n yet_o such_o as_o have_v attain_v communion_n with_o their_o brethren_n in_o faith_n and_o godliness_n therefore_o though_o the_o aforemention_v property_n of_o true_a believer_n may_v be_v clear_o see_v and_o discern_v to_o be_v in_o they_o and_o they_o themselves_o also_o will_v confess_v that_o they_o have_v be_v stay_v save_o in_o temptation_n and_o that_o some_o of_o they_o oftentimes_o have_v find_v singular_a comfort_n in_o christ_n and_o desire_n much_o to_o be_v with_o he_o yet_o soon_o they_o be_v drive_v from_o their_o hold_n and_o cause_v to_o suspect_v their_o comfort_n to_o be_v a_o vain_a fancy_n and_o so_o fall_v into_o much_o fear_n and_o doubt_v that_o they_o be_v none_o of_o the_o lord_n they_o must_v know_v therefore_o that_o see_v there_o be_v no_o shadow_n of_o changeablenes_n with_o god_n that_o it_o be_v their_o own_o weakness_n so_o to_o think_v as_o the_o prophet_n confess_v of_o himself_o in_o the_o like_a case_n 77.13_o after_o he_o have_v long_o wrestle_v and_o strive_v with_o that_o temptation_n for_o he_o that_o have_v be_v assure_o persuade_v of_o god_n love_n towards_o he_o at_o any_o time_n in_o his_o whole_a life_n ought_v not_o to_o cast_v away_o his_o confidence_n after_o 10.35_o nor_o suffer_v himself_o to_o be_v deprive_v of_o it_o be_v his_o chief_a treasure_n faith_n but_o though_o this_o may_v be_v a_o stay_n to_o a_o weak_a conscience_n who_o be_v sometime_o afflict_a in_o this_o sort_n yet_o i_o say_v further_o that_o see_v he_o can_v be_v satisfy_v till_o his_o doubtfulness_n which_o by_o all_o his_o might_n he_o seek_v to_o subdue_v be_v remove_v and_o his_o soul_n set_v at_o liberty_n again_o by_o some_o new_a light_n in_o god_n promise_n therefore_o he_o be_v to_o be_v persuade_v that_o he_o labour_v after_o and_o groan_v to_o rest_v his_o weary_a and_o heavy_a heart_n on_o these_o he_o can_v miscarry_v nor_o be_v forsake_v of_o the_o lord_n in_o the_o low_a depth_n of_o his_o distress_n faith_n for_o some_o one_o or_o other_o testimony_n and_o property_n of_o the_o new_a birth_n shall_v ever_o be_v find_v in_o he_o although_o he_o always_o feel_v it_o not_o neither_o perceive_v it_o himself_o whereby_o it_o shall_v be_v manifest_a that_o he_o live_v to_o god_n the_o life_n of_o god_n even_o as_o hear_v breathe_a move_a feel_a and_o such_o like_a be_v infallible_a token_n of_o life_n in_o the_o body_n which_o by_o many_o likelihood_n appear_v to_o be_v dead_a and_o if_o to_o his_o own_o judgement_n it_o seem_v that_o all_o hope_n be_v cut_v off_o through_o the_o rage_n of_o the_o devil_n and_o strength_n of_o the_o temptation_n yet_o it_o be_v as_o if_o a_o man_n be_v sudden_o strike_v down_o to_o the_o ground_n with_o some_o violent_a blow_n and_o amaze_v who_o yet_o afterward_o recover_v himself_o again_o so_o that_o even_o he_o which_o feel_v not_o that_o he_o have_v faith_n and_o life_n be_v not_o yet_o without_o it_o see_v he_o be_v not_o without_o that_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n which_o always_o deny_v it_o although_o indeed_o he_o have_v need_n of_o especial_a and_o strong_a comfort_n and_o this_o be_v my_o answer_n but_o if_o this_o be_v not_o enough_o but_o thou_o will_v marvel_v why_o god_n do_v thus_o deal_v with_o thou_o and_o suffer_v thou_o to_o fall_v to_o such_o depth_n of_o doubt_v sorrow_n and_o fear_v although_o he_o love_v thou_o yea_o and_o that_o after_o thou_o have_v feel_v such_o comfort_n to_o thy_o conscience_n i_o must_v make_v my_o answer_n more_o full_a and_o large_a for_o the_o further_o satisfy_v of_o thou_o herein_o i_o say_v therefore_o although_o this_o be_v by_o the_o wise_a providence_n of_o god_n that_o many_o of_o his_o true_o beget_v child_n who_o therefore_o have_v have_v sound_a comfort_n in_o christ_n do_v fall_v sometime_o and_o that_o very_o dangerous_o and_o do_v great_o waver_v and_o doubt_v oftentimes_o and_o so_o become_v uncomfortable_a which_o the_o lord_n dispose_v lest_o by_o their_o sudden_a change_n from_o so_o damnable_a and_o uncomfortable_a a_o estate_n to_o so_o happy_a and_o joyful_a they_o shall_v be_v lift_v up_o and_o conceit_v and_o so_o become_v secure_a and_o presumptuous_a the_o forerunner_n and_o cause_n of_o a_o fearful_a fall_n yet_o this_o be_v certain_a it_o ought_v not_o thus_o to_o be_v on_o our_o part_n for_o it_o be_v as_o i_o have_v say_v before_o a_o weakness_n which_o must_v be_v withstand_v and_o overcome_v for_o the_o attain_n whereto_o the_o occasion_n of_o this_o doubt_n in_o he_o who_o have_v once_o believe_v must_v be_v search_v out_o and_o so_o remove_v which_o ordinary_o be_v our_o own_o infirmity_n neglect_v of_o duty_n and_o sleightnes_n in_o the_o manner_n of_o perform_v the_o same_o or_o some_o particular_a sin_n also_o pronenes_n to_o sin_n a_o nourish_a of_o the_o same_o and_o strength_n of_o it_o or_o long_o lie_v therein_o whereupon_o the_o tender_a conscience_n fear_v that_o his_o former_a comfort_n be_v but_o deceitful_a and_o vain_a and_o so_o doubt_v of_o his_o own_o estate_n for_o the_o right_n remove_v hereof_o this_o be_v due_o to_o be_v consider_v that_o as_o the_o root_n of_o our_o comfort_n in_o christ_n be_v not_o the_o strength_n of_o our_o christian_a life_n faith_n so_o the_o weakness_n herein_o ought_v not_o to_o breed_v doubt_v of_o our_o salvation_n by_o christ_n but_o for_o as_o much_o as_o all_o our_o comfort_n stand_v in_o this_o that_o god_n who_o justify_v the_o ungodly_a have_v free_o give_v his_o son_n and_o in_o he_o be_v reconcile_v to_o we_o who_o so_o hearty_o desire_v his_o favour_n have_v be_v his_o enemy_n and_o have_v by_o his_o gospel_n call_v we_o and_o by_o his_o spirit_n wrought_v in_o our_o heart_n a_o sure_a persuasion_n hereof_o whereby_o we_o which_o be_v dead_a in_o sin_n be_v make_v alive_a to_o god_n &_o so_o be_v new_o bear_v and_o therefore_o begin_v to_o be_v change_v first_o in_o affection_n and_o then_o in_o conversation_n by_o little_a and_o little_a therefore_o if_o we_o have_v this_o assurance_n of_o our_o new_a birth_n though_o there_o be_v in_o we_o much_o weakness_n of_o the_o spiritual_a life_n yet_o we_o ought_v not_o to_o doubt_v whether_o we_o be_v god_n child_n see_v he_o that_o be_v new_o bear_v can_v never_o die_v but_o rather_o we_o be_v to_o remember_v first_o we_o be_v but_o child_n faith_n and_o therefore_o weak_a second_o we_o be_v very_o subject_a to_o many_o spiritual_a disease_n some_o such_o as_o take_v away_o sense_n of_o life_n and_o therefore_o we_o must_v seek_v to_o be_v cure_v and_o not_o despair_v of_o life_n because_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o no_o such_o can_v perish_v so_o that_o if_o we_o see_v that_o we_o have_v turn_v our_o heart_n from_o our_o christian_n course_n &_o offend_a god_n or_o which_o be_v more_o if_o we_o have_v suffer_v ourselves_o to_o be_v seduce_v any_o manner_n of_o way_n we_o must_v not_o despair_v or_o doubt_v of_o the_o safety_n of_o the_o whole_a person_n when_o any_o one_o part_n or_o member_n be_v distemper_v and_o ill_o at_o ease_n but_o cure_v it_o simile_n and_o labour_n to_o restore_v that_o to_o health_n again_o as_o if_o it_o be_v thy_o heart_n thy_o eye_n thy_o hand_n or_o any_o other_o part_n which_o have_v offend_v resort_v thou_o to_o the_o physician_n christ_n jesus_n make_v thy_o complaint_n that_o thou_o be_v heavy_a and_o will_v feign_v return_n again_o from_o whence_o thou_o be_v fall_v and_o be_v confident_a for_o his_o own_o promise_n sake_n who_o call_v with_o stretch_v out_o arm_n say_v return_v thou_o which_o wander_v 11.28_o and_o thou_o who_o will_v find_v ease_n and_o comfort_n come_v unto_o i_o and_o i_o will_v refresh_v thou_o believe_v in_o i_o and_o i_o will_v satisfy_v thou_o in_o that_o which_o thou_o hungre_v for_o now_o if_o they_o who_o have_v fall_v and_o offend_v god_n may_v turn_v home_o again_o to_o their_o first_o tell_v how_o well_o it_o beseem_v their_o action_n who_o have_v obtain_v it_o of_o god_n and_o testify_v it_o throughout_o the_o course_n of_o their_o life_n for_o when_o man_n understand_v that_o god_n have_v so_o appoint_v that_o they_o shall_v be_v zealous_a in_o do_v their_o duty_n as_o remember_v that_o of_o he_o they_o shall_v receive_v their_o reward_n and_o that_o his_o business_n ought_v to_o be_v go_v about_o fervent_o and_o with_o conscience_n 48.10_o though_o they_o have_v no_o great_a example_n of_o such_o practice_n in_o the_o world_n it_o will_v hearten_v they_o on_o with_o courage_n unto_o the_o same_o by_o the_o help_n of_o his_o spirit_n which_o lead_v thereto_o and_o yet_o if_o the_o zeal_n of_o god_n house_n consume_v they_o as_o the_o prophet_n say_v it_o holiness_n to_o god_n be_v prefer_v before_o duty_n to_o man_n and_o with_o more_o bend_v our_o force_n and_o strength_n when_o we_o go_v about_o to_o perform_v they_o rather_o than_o these_o and_o if_o it_o be_v demand_v here_o how_o we_o shall_v come_v by_o such_o grace_n 1.4_o as_o whereby_o we_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o embrace_v choose_v and_o follow_v the_o good_a which_o we_o know_v i_o answer_v that_o we_o receive_v such_o grace_n when_o we_o first_o believe_v in_o christ_n whereby_o our_o heart_n be_v purify_v and_o cleanse_v from_o the_o strength_n of_o our_o old_a corruption_n which_o if_o we_o remember_v do_v warrant_v we_o not_o only_o that_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n have_v take_v away_o the_o guilt_n and_o punishment_n of_o our_o sin_n and_o impart_v to_o we_o and_o give_v free_o his_o obedience_n but_o also_o grace_n and_o will_v to_o love_v piety_n and_o goodness_n and_o power_n as_o to_o kill_v sin_n so_o to_o quicken_v we_o to_o newness_n of_o life_n 6.4.5_o so_o that_o if_o we_o feel_v it_o not_o usual_o and_o ordinary_o we_o have_v lose_v and_o forgo_v it_o either_o through_o our_o forgetfulness_n sloth_n or_o careless_a negligence_n or_o if_o it_o be_v through_o infirmity_n weaken_v in_o we_o we_o ought_v to_o stir_v up_o ourselves_o with_o cheerful_a confidence_n to_o the_o recover_n of_o it_o again_o and_o not_o to_o be_v content_a to_o be_v spoil_v of_o so_o great_a a_o treasure_n but_o if_o this_o earnest_a desire_n after_o goodness_n and_o vehement_a zeal_n of_o honour_v god_n by_o that_o which_o we_o know_v be_v quench_v whether_o it_o be_v overwhelm_v with_o sorrow_n fear_n or_o such_o like_a passion_n or_o dull_v and_o make_v blunt_a in_o we_o through_o lightness_n and_o in_o follow_v the_o desire_n of_o our_o heart_n amiss_o we_o be_v in_o no_o wise_a fit_a to_o honour_n god_n in_o any_o service_n thus_o much_o of_o the_o first_o part_n of_o practice_n namely_o inward_a i_o will_v now_o go_v forward_o with_o the_o second_o part_n 9_o which_o be_v a_o branch_n of_o the_o second_o rule_n and_o help_v forward_o to_o the_o lead_n of_o a_o godly_a life_n that_o the_o believer_n may_v by_o it_o be_v able_a to_o guide_v themselves_o aright_o and_o with_o much_o ease_n in_o respect_n of_o those_o who_o be_v not_o acquaint_v therewith_o and_o this_o it_o be_v that_o in_o well_o do_v we_o stay_v not_o in_o our_o good_a desire_n and_o in_o the_o readiness_n of_o the_o heart_n to_o do_v good_a but_o procure_v accomplish_v and_o perform_v the_o same_o duty_n outward_o that_o we_o indevor_n at_o least_o even_o where_o we_o can_v perform_v as_o occasion_n shall_v be_v offer_v and_o that_o in_o one_o commandment_n as_o well_o as_o in_o another_o so_o far_o as_o it_o may_v be_v obtain_v so_o that_o in_o all_o part_n of_o sanctify_v and_o holiness_n which_o shall_v be_v wrought_v in_o and_o by_o we_o this_o aught_o to_o be_v as_o a_o perpetual_a law_n that_o all_o the_o member_n of_o our_o body_n and_o our_o particular_a action_n may_v all_o become_v most_o fit_a instrument_n and_o help_n to_o show_v forth_o and_o express_v the_o same_o and_o that_o be_v it_o which_o the_o apostle_n to_o the_o roman_n mean_v when_o he_o say_v 6.12.13_o let_v not_o sin_n reign_v in_o your_o mortal_a body_n that_o you_o shall_v obey_v it_o in_o the_o lust_n thereof_o neither_o give_v you_o your_o member_n as_o weapon_n of_o unrighteousness_n to_o sin_n but_o give_v yourselves_o unto_o god_n as_o they_o which_o be_v alive_a from_o the_o dead_a and_o give_v yourselves_o as_o weapon_n of_o righteousness_n shall_v do_v good_a work_n as_o well_o as_o have_v our_o mind_n and_o heart_n inward_o purge_v 5._o but_o that_o we_o shall_v be_v diligent_o give_v unto_o every_o good_a work_n and_o make_v a_o trade_n of_o godliness_n to_o apply_v and_o follow_v it_o so_o that_o while_o we_o do_v one_o good_a duty_n we_o shall_v not_o neglect_v another_o which_o in_o good_a husbandry_n about_o thing_n of_o in_o christian_n either_o minister_n or_o private_a person_n but_o the_o contrary_a virtue_n as_o i_o have_v say_v which_o be_v oft_o time_n in_o the_o scripture_n set_v down_o together_o 3.12_o as_o well_o as_o in_o this_o place_n that_o we_o may_v know_v how_o needful_a it_o be_v that_o they_o shall_v always_o go_v together_o and_o that_o although_o there_o be_v many_o goodly_a gift_n in_o a_o man_n yet_o if_o he_o have_v not_o these_o they_o shall_v lose_v their_o credit_n and_o beauty_n among_o those_o which_o behold_v they_o and_o withhold_v their_o commodity_n from_o he_o who_o want_v they_o necessary_a and_o these_o two_o be_v not_o particular_a virtue_n which_o sometime_o only_o may_v have_v use_n but_o such_o fruit_n of_o the_o spirit_n as_o necessary_o be_v require_v in_o all_o action_n so_o that_o at_o no_o time_n humbleness_n of_o mind_n and_o meekness_n of_o spirit_n may_v be_v want_v all_o these_o virtue_n i_o confess_v be_v common_a as_o well_o to_o the_o forsake_v of_o evil_a as_o to_o the_o do_v of_o good_a and_o so_o understand_v it_o though_o it_o be_v put_v out_o of_o place_n but_o i_o set_v they_o down_o here_o see_v the_o former_a part_n of_o this_o treatise_n like_o the_o disorder_a service_n of_o many_o unreformed_a gentleman_n where_o beside_o the_o attend_v at_o table_n and_o on_o horseback_n the_o attender_n may_v run_v where_o they_o will_v but_o it_o our_o life_n be_v many_o and_o infinite_a therefore_o no_o certain_a rule_n can_v be_v propound_v to_o be_v follow_v of_o we_o answer_n for_o as_o many_o as_o they_o be_v both_o throughout_o the_o day_n and_o the_o whole_a year_n yea_o our_o life_n yet_o may_v they_o all_o be_v bring_v under_o and_o fit_o refer_v to_o a_o few_o rule_n which_o will_v show_v when_o we_o be_v well_o govern_v and_o when_o it_o be_v otherwise_o with_o us._n and_o if_o it_o be_v not_o thus_o that_o we_o both_o may_v and_o aught_o to_o be_v daily_o guide_v by_o some_o certain_a and_o good_a direction_n and_o have_v our_o heart_n also_o ready_o dispose_v ordinary_o and_o for_o the_o most_o part_n throughout_o the_o day_n unto_o every_o good_a work_n then_o in_o vain_a shall_v that_o be_v write_v which_o be_v speak_v of_o david_n must_v be_v practise_v of_o all_o the_o faithful_a i_o behold_v the_o lord_n always_o before_o i_o that_o be_v i_o live_v by_o faith_n that_o i_o may_v not_o be_v shake_v act._n his_o book_n again_o when_o through_o his_o negligence_n his_o fellow_n be_v get_v before_o he_o and_o by_o this_o which_o have_v be_v say_v it_o may_v easy_o appear_v that_o the_o lord_n do_v require_v in_o his_o word_n that_o such_o as_o believe_v unto_o salvation_n shall_v renew_v their_o care_n to_o glorify_v he_o in_o their_o christian_a conversation_n and_o therefore_o every_o day_n to_o be_v constant_a therein_o and_o set_v themselves_o earnest_o thereto_o and_o if_o they_o fall_v by_o infirmity_n not_o to_o lie_v still_o but_o speedy_o recover_v he_o will_v also_o have_v they_o their_o tongue_n and_o life_n after_o the_o same_o manner_n which_o service_n god_n abhor_v note_n and_o therefore_o we_o may_v be_v sure_a that_o much_o more_o the_o disorder_a life_n of_o many_o professor_n and_o civil_a person_n who_o irreligious_a life_n be_v cover_v with_o some_o outward_a exercise_n of_o religion_n be_v nothing_o less_o than_o please_v to_o god_n but_o utter_o abominable_a now_o see_v all_o duty_n can_v be_v practise_v every_o day_n and_o yet_o every_o day_n must_v be_v pass_v holy_o we_o must_v of_o necessity_n see_v how_o to_o be_v guide_v daily_o so_o every_o day_n for_o they_o be_v for_o the_o most_o part_n variable_a &_o innumerable_a on_o the_o six_o day_n especial_o &_o therefore_o impossible_a to_o be_v enjoin_v but_o only_o such_o as_o bind_v the_o conscience_n every_o day_n &_o can_v without_o sin_n be_v omit_v &_o yet_o such_o as_o be_v neither_o too_o many_o to_o be_v learn_v to_o the_o trouble_v of_o the_o memory_n nor_o so_o few_o but_o that_o they_o yield_v great_a furtherance_n to_o the_o true_a christian_a for_o the_o well_o pass_v of_o the_o day_n this_o daily_a direction_n then_o of_o a_o christian_a direction_n be_v a_o gather_v together_o of_o certain_a rule_n out_o of_o god_n word_n by_o which_o we_o may_v be_v enable_v every_o day_n to_o live_v according_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n with_o sound_a peace_n and_o therefore_o the_o follow_v of_o such_o direction_n be_v a_o faithful_a and_o constant_a endeavour_n to_o please_v god_n in_o all_o thing_n every_o day_n as_o long_o as_o we_o live_v here_o to_o the_o peace_n of_o our_o conscience_n and_o to_o the_o glorify_v of_o he_o let_v this_o description_n be_v open_v more_o plain_o and_o then_o i_o will_v set_v down_o the_o part_n thereof_o and_o before_o i_o go_v further_o i_o think_v meet_v to_o give_v the_o reader_n to_o understand_v that_o i_o set_v not_o down_o this_o as_o prescribe_v any_o other_o direction_n than_o god_n word_n have_v teach_v but_o whereas_o through_o common_a ignorance_n and_o negligence_n in_o observe_v that_o which_o god_n have_v teach_v the_o most_o do_v fail_v this_o may_v be_v a_o help_n to_o bring_v they_o to_o god_n nor_o to_o be_v look_v for_o in_o the_o best_a christian_n nor_o to_o be_v think_v that_o it_o be_v intend_v of_o i_o to_o fear_v any_o weak_a conscience_n with_o it_o or_o thrust_v it_o upon_o he_o but_o only_o to_o show_v that_o the_o will_n and_o desire_v of_o the_o heart_n and_o the_o endeavour_n of_o the_o life_n in_o the_o believer_n be_v accept_v of_o he_o through_o christ_n and_o as_o well_o please_v to_o he_o as_o our_o action_n themselves_o shall_v be_v when_o they_o can_v be_v perform_v 2._o cor._n 8.12_o and_o if_o it_o be_v not_o so_o what_o comfort_n can_v we_o have_v who_o see_v daily_o that_o we_o be_v hold_v back_o from_o many_o duty_n which_o yet_o because_o we_o know_v we_o desire_v with_o all_o our_o heart_n and_o strive_v to_o perform_v they_o we_o have_v peace_n to_o god-ward_o and_o thus_o be_v the_o place_n to_o be_v understand_v which_o make_v mention_v of_o keep_v the_o commandment_n that_o they_o be_v bless_v which_o
we_o ought_v not_o at_o any_o time_n to_o be_v unwilling_a to_o such_o duty_n if_o it_o be_v always_o expedient_a to_o be_v with_o the_o lord_n in_o this_o manner_n unless_o we_o can_v prove_v to_o our_o conscience_n that_o we_o be_v take_v up_o in_o thing_n more_o necessary_a neither_o can_v this_o desire_n be_v quench_v in_o we_o which_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n have_v kindle_v but_o by_o our_o own_o fault_n while_o we_o have_v through_o lightness_n rashness_n or_o in_o seek_v some_o other_o unlawful_a liberty_n expel_v and_o banish_v the_o same_o from_o us._n but_o for_o as_o much_o as_o all_o other_o duty_n go_v well_o forward_o while_o the_o heart_n be_v keep_v in_o love_n and_o like_n with_o these_o holy_a exercise_n and_o not_o otherwise_o for_o pray_v well_o and_o live_v well_o and_o contrary_o therefore_o this_o grace_n and_o heavenly_a affection_n can_v neither_o may_v well_o be_v want_v in_o the_o servant_n of_o god_n insomuch_o that_o they_o which_o be_v not_o necessary_o let_v as_o by_o poverty_n or_o otherwise_o as_o want_v of_o leisure_n be_v not_o to_o make_v this_o to_o stand_v in_o stead_n of_o their_o family_n exercise_v in_o the_o morning_n as_o contrary_a to_o the_o opinion_n of_o many_o and_o those_o not_o of_o the_o worst_a who_o imagine_v but_o most_o unjust_o that_o their_o call_n be_v such_o a_o let_v to_o they_o from_o the_o practice_n high_a magistrate_n do_v submit_v themselves_o be_v appoint_v of_o god_n to_o their_o place_n that_o the_o people_n may_v live_v a_o quiet_a and_o peaceable_a life_n in_o all_o godliness_n and_o honesty_n and_o therefore_o very_o unmeete_a it_o be_v that_o any_o inferior_a to_o they_o 3.6_o shall_v range_v and_o live_v without_o compass_n in_o the_o world_n inordinate_o as_o though_o they_o unto_o the_o will_n of_o god_n in_o other_o thing_n be_v therefore_o ready_a to_o hear_v his_o voice_n in_o this_o all_o such_o must_v know_v and_o religious_o persuade_v themselves_o if_o through_o ignorance_n and_o long_a custom_n therein_o they_o shall_v think_v otherwise_o that_o they_o must_v of_o conscience_n betake_v themselves_o to_o such_o a_o estate_n of_o life_n lest_o otherwise_o live_v without_o a_o calling_n as_o rogue_n thief_n cousiner_n common_a gamester_n parasite_n &_o other_o disguise_a person_n so_o they_o shall_v loathe_v labour_n live_v upon_o other_o &_o wax_v idle_a and_o so_o run_v either_o into_o heresy_n sect_n curious_a question_n and_o fond_a opinion_n or_o else_o into_o loose_a behaviour_n and_o wicked_a company_n and_o then_o find_v no_o savour_n in_o their_o religion_n shall_v fall_v away_o from_o the_o truth_n and_o grow_v senseless_a and_o freeze_v in_o their_o dregs_n and_o filthiness_n as_o not_o only_o we_o may_v read_v in_o the_o scripture_n that_o some_o have_v do_v which_o also_o be_v member_n of_o the_o church_n but_o have_v see_v many_o carry_v good_a show_n of_o zeal_n and_o have_v many_o good_a part_n in_o they_o whereof_o some_o become_v profane_a and_o vain_a in_o their_o life_n other_o hold_v strange_a opinion_n and_o separate_v themselves_o from_o the_o church_n of_o god_n among_o who_o they_o have_v live_v familiar_o before_o neither_o be_v they_o to_o be_v blame_v by_o man_n with_o any_o reproachful_a crime_n which_o may_v be_v like_a to_o bring_v they_o thereunto_o save_v only_o this_o that_o carnal_a liberty_n or_o of_o both_o can_v be_v without_o dangerous_a discommodity_n for_o what_o shall_v the_o multitude_n of_o christian_n do_v through_o the_o whole_a year_n if_o they_o shall_v not_o every_o one_o walk_n and_o be_v daily_o occupy_v in_o some_o certain_a estate_n some_o at_o home_n some_o abroad_o and_o therein_o have_v trial_n of_o their_o faith_n patience_n and_o pry_v and_o search_v into_o other_o man_n living_n title_n of_o their_o land_n and_o lease_n and_o busy_v themselves_o needless_o yea_o and_o oft_o time_n to_o the_o great_a hurt_n offence_n and_o just_a complaint_n of_o they_o with_o who_o they_o live_v and_o seek_v to_o have_v to_o do_v other_o as_o busybody_n and_o as_o though_o religion_n consist_v therein_o calling_n do_v as_o it_o be_v make_v a_o trade_n of_o observe_v other_o man_n fault_n neglect_v too_o much_o their_o own_o and_o sow_v dissension_n and_o set_v debate_n betwixt_o neighbour_n and_o with_o their_o evil_a tongue_n bite_v and_o reproach_n such_o as_o be_v better_a than_o themselves_o other_o trifle_v out_o their_o precious_a time_n in_o seek_v of_o acquaintance_n not_o such_o whereby_o they_o may_v take_v good_a or_o do_v good_a but_o spend_v it_o in_o play_n jest_v and_o merry-making_a amiss_o and_o profane_o etc._n etc._n other_o occupy_v themselves_o in_o deal_n and_o merchandise_n not_o appertain_v unto_o they_o but_o far_o above_o their_o ability_n ability_n yea_o and_o skill_n also_o many_o time_n occupy_v their_o trade_n with_o other_o man_n good_n and_o while_o they_o keep_v within_o no_o bound_n by_o aim_v at_o great_a matter_n without_o any_o warrant_n do_v gain_v less_o than_o nothing_o for_o their_o labour_n and_o disable_v themselves_o to_o their_o own_o call_n beside_o this_o that_o be_v free_v from_o many_o evil_n if_o they_o will_v have_v hearken_v to_o the_o voice_n of_o god_n 3.10_o which_o say_v he_o that_o labour_v not_o let_v he_o not_o eat_v and_o again_o that_o man_n be_v bear_v to_o labour_n as_o the_o bird_n to_o fly_v but_o they_o depart_v from_o the_o ordinance_n of_o god_n and_o show_v that_o howsoever_o they_o profess_v themselves_o to_o be_v religious_a they_o fall_v to_o these_o indirect_a course_n from_o diligence_n in_o their_o calling_n for_o want_n of_o religion_n which_o only_o do_v right_o direct_a man_n how_o to_o follow_v they_o as_o it_o do_v to_o order_v all_o other_o thing_n aright_o but_o it_o may_v well_o be_v a_o duty_n of_o some_o account_n command_v of_o god_n to_o make_v conscience_n of_o diligence_n in_o our_o particular_a calling_n it_o be_v so_o few_o man_n case_n to_o perform_v it_o but_o while_o i_o commend_v faithfulness_n in_o man_n calling_n and_o find_v fault_n with_o negligence_n therein_o i_o attribute_v no_o godliness_n to_o the_o very_a act_n of_o labour_a neither_o defend_v christian_n that_o they_o be_v good_a christian_n all_o who_o be_v diligent_a workman_n and_o painful_a labourer_n in_o any_o in_o it_o that_o it_o may_v be_v no_o let_v nor_o hindrance_n to_o we_o from_o exercise_n of_o religion_n and_o grow_v in_o grace_n thereby_o
other_o duty_n we_o and_o the_o other_o part_n of_o our_o family_n do_v reverent_o worship_n god_n together_o that_o be_v to_o say_v that_o we_o solemn_o upon_o our_o knee_n make_v confession_n of_o be_v another_o of_o those_o duty_n which_o be_v as_o oft_o as_o may_v be_v to_o be_v perform_v in_o our_o family_n i_o say_v as_o oft_o as_o may_v be_v because_o no_o man_n conscience_n shall_v be_v of_o the_o church_n and_o every_o governor_n be_v that_o in_o the_o family_n that_o the_o minister_n be_v in_o the_o congregation_n therefore_o if_o they_o be_v not_o accustom_v to_o worship_n and_o serve_v god_n at_o home_n how_o shall_v they_o be_v able_a to_o do_v it_o with_o profit_n in_o the_o assembly_n especial_o see_v experience_n teach_v that_o the_o mind_n be_v unseasoned_a all_o the_o week_n at_o home_n be_v further_o off_o from_o goodness_n on_o the_o sabbath_n and_o yet_o all_o which_o be_v do_v this_o way_n both_o public_o and_o private_o be_v little_a enough_o even_o in_o the_o best_a christian_n and_o that_o we_o come_v the_o often_o and_o more_o cheerful_o hereunto_o as_o oft_o as_o it_o shall_v behoove_v we_o we_o must_v know_v and_o consider_v that_o we_o have_v therein_o communion_n and_o fellowship_n with_o the_o lord_n and_o be_v admit_v to_o speak_v and_o break_v our_o mind_n unto_o he_o and_o so_o have_v our_o soul_n most_o sweet_o refresh_v thereby_o ridiculous_a but_o let_v such_o go_v know_v we_o that_o if_o we_o desire_v to_o give_v a_o easy_a reckon_n to_o god_n at_o our_o latter_a end_n it_o be_v our_o wisdom_n and_o the_o best_a provision_n we_o can_v make_v for_o ourselves_o to_o yield_v with_o all_o conscionablenesse_n a_o reckon_n to_o the_o lord_n at_o the_o end_n of_o every_o day_n and_o so_o much_o the_o rather_o because_o we_o accuse_v by_o our_o conscience_n note_n that_o we_o have_v deal_v too_o slight_o yea_o hollow_o sometime_o &_o too_o much_o favour_v ourselves_o in_o pass_v by_o many_o particular_n which_o we_o be_v willing_a to_o be_v forget_v &_o bury_v that_o which_o we_o may_v read_v in_o heathen_a poet_n as_o pythagoras_n and_o other_o concern_v this_o matter_n it_o may_v and_o ought_v worthy_o to_o put_v to_o shame_v a_o number_n of_o christian_n they_o write_v that_o a_o man_n shall_v look_v back_o at_o the_o end_n of_o the_o day_n how_o and_o in_o what_o manner_n it_o have_v be_v spend_v and_o pass_v which_o cogitation_n it_o be_v to_o be_v fear_v have_v not_o once_o enter_v into_o the_o heart_n of_o many_o which_o profess_v to_o know_v god_n in_o christ_n for_o such_o as_o see_v any_o cause_n of_o go_v about_o it_o this_o i_o will_v say_v to_o help_v they_o forward_o that_o the_o more_o circumspect_a they_o have_v be_v in_o observe_v of_o their_o way_n and_o the_o more_o diligent_o the_o govern_n of_o the_o hart_n and_o life_n be_v keep_v throughout_o the_o day_n the_o more_o ready_o and_o willing_o shall_v they_o go_v about_o this_o view_n of_o the_o day-spending_a at_o their_o lie_v down_o neither_o shall_v it_o be_v cast_v off_o or_o neglect_v and_o untoward_o take_v in_o hand_n but_o when_o they_o have_v be_v too_o secure_a &_o slight_a in_o do_v the_o duty_n of_o the_o day_n neither_o will_v i_o lay_v upon_o any_o a_o burden_n which_o they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o bear_v call_v god_n to_o record_v that_o i_o seek_v in_o this_o as_o in_o the_o rest_n which_o i_o have_v say_v only_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o the_o further_a peace_n and_o comfort_n to_o all_o the_o faithful_a and_o the_o high_a price_a and_o estimation_n of_o a_o godly_a life_n which_o will_v be_v much_o set_v by_o where_o the_o life_n be_v so_o look_v to_o in_o the_o day_n as_o i_o have_v wish_v and_o at_o our_o lie_v down_o view_v in_o this_o manner_n and_o therefore_o wish_v every_o one_o according_a to_o the_o light_n and_o grace_n which_o he_o have_v receive_v to_o consider_v whether_o he_o can_v say_v any_o less_o but_o that_o they_o walk_v most_o safe_o &_o most_o confident_a who_o go_v about_o as_o they_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o make_v a_o end_n of_o the_o day_n in_o this_o manner_n and_o the_o reason_n why_o this_o be_v require_v as_o the_o last_o work_n beside_o prayer_n in_o the_o family_n be_v because_o a_o christian_a have_v somewhat_o to_o mention_n and_o deal_v about_o and_o complain_v of_o particular_o concern_v himself_o which_o he_o can_v so_o well_o be_v satisfy_v in_o when_o he_o pray_v in_o company_n and_o he_o that_o have_v most_o wary_o look_v to_o himself_o in_o the_o day_n and_o join_v with_o the_o family_n in_o duty_n of_o humiliation_n at_o night_n shall_v see_v cause_n enough_o to_o add_v this_o duty_n to_o both_o as_o we_o read_v it_o write_v of_o master_n bradford_n who_o have_v much_o inward_a communion_n with_o god_n that_o he_o be_v never_o satisfy_v in_o the_o duty_n he_o do_v through_o the_o day_n and_o namely_o in_o pray_v at_o the_o chapel_n when_o he_o be_v fellow_n of_o a_o college_n and_o in_o his_o regard_n ought_v to_o be_v have_v of_o the_o many_o bodily_a infirmity_n disease_n and_o sickness_n with_o the_o feebleness_n of_o

of_o this_o second_o kind_n of_o let_n thus_o much_o chap._n 10._o of_o worldly_a lust_n and_o namely_o the_o love_n of_o carnal_a pleasure_n and_o the_o inordinate_a desire_n of_o riches_n but_o further_a as_o he_o find_v best_a opportunity_n he_o deceive_v we_o many_o other_o way_n and_o namely_o in_o take_v up_o our_o heart_n in_o endless_a foolish_a and_o vain_a desire_n of_o thing_n which_o we_o neither_o can_v nor_o aught_o to_o enjoy_v as_o the_o lust_n of_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o eye_n and_o the_o pride_n of_o life_n and_o so_o feed_v we_o with_o the_o air_n even_o with_o most_o vain_a and_o deceitful_a dream_n besot_v we_o with_o too_o much_o pleasure-taking_a in_o transitory_a liberty_n and_o commodity_n of_o this_o life_n which_o pull_v our_o mind_n as_o much_o from_o godly_a duty_n as_o they_o carry_v they_o after_o such_o unsavourie_a folly_n about_o many_o dangerous_a fantasy_n he_o occupy_v our_o head_n that_o we_o may_v neglect_v the_o seek_n of_o better_a thing_n especial_o in_o the_o time_n when_o we_o shall_v be_v best_o occupy_v i_o mean_v by_o these_o all_o sort_n of_o worldly_a lust_n which_o be_v more_o noisome_a and_o dangerous_a than_o the_o evil_a affection_n mention_v before_o though_o one_o will_v think_v we_o have_v little_a need_n to_o be_v shake_v and_o distemper_v with_o great_a than_o they_o but_o rather_o study_v how_o to_o make_v they_o weaken_v and_o subdue_v in_o us._n these_o worldly_a lust_n be_v lust_n of_o the_o flesh_n which_o belong_v to_o the_o present_a state_n of_o this_o life_n and_o world_n as_o the_o exceed_a love_n and_o desire_v of_o pleasure_n riches_n and_o estimation_n or_o honour_n etc._n etc._n for_o if_o he_o can_v fasten_v our_o delight_n on_o these_o we_o be_v carry_v headlong_o as_o the_o chariot_n by_o wild_a horse_n be_v overturn_v i_o will_v show_v the_o danger_n we_o be_v in_o by_o mean_n of_o these_o worldly_a lust_n in_o two_o kind_n the_o lust_n of_o the_o flesh_n proper_o so_o call_v and_o the_o inordinate_a desire_n of_o riches_n and_o care_n of_o the_o world_n how_o a_o true_a christian_a may_v possible_o be_v disguise_v by_o these_o i_o say_v that_o he_o shall_v be_v thereby_o as_o another_o man_n and_o sometime_o gross_o overcome_v of_o they_o i_o will_v first_o show_v and_o then_o add_v some_o remedy_n against_o they_o the_o first_o be_v pleasure_n when_o he_o shall_v be_v drown_v in_o sensuality_n and_o the_o sottish_a pleasure_n of_o the_o body_n so_o that_o he_o be_v blind_a and_o imporent_a and_o have_v no_o power_n to_o consider_v what_o the_o scripture_n say_v 31.30_o favour_n be_v deceitful_a and_o beauty_n be_v a_o vain_a thing_n and_o what_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o this_o for_o it_o will_v not_o easy_o be_v believe_v that_o a_o true_a service_n more_o than_o if_o we_o want_v they_o for_o although_o poor_a and_o rich_a be_v command_v to_o consecrate_v themselves_o to_o god_n yet_o they_o may_v best_o do_v it_o who_o have_v most_o help_v thereto_o and_o who_o can_v deny_v exercise_n that_o in_o the_o wealthy_a estate_n there_o be_v many_o more_o help_n hereto_o then_o be_v to_o be_v find_v in_o the_o needy_a and_o poor_a this_o be_v grant_v that_o both_o sort_n fear_v god_n with_o who_o only_o i_o have_v here_o to_o deal_v for_o first_o they_o have_v more_o time_n and_o freedom_n than_o these_o to_o all_o exercise_n of_o religion_n and_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n both_o public_a and_o private_a i_o mean_v they_o may_v oft_o enjoy_v the_o preach_n of_o the_o word_n have_v recourse_n to_o read_v christian_a conference_n in_o good_a company_n meditation_n also_o and_o prayer_n which_o how_o great_a help_v they_o be_v to_o the_o keep_n of_o a_o settle_a course_n in_o godliness_n have_v be_v before_o set_v down_o whereas_o the_o poor_a beside_o that_o they_o shall_v look_v to_o themselves_o commendable_o if_o they_o be_v not_o discourage_v and_o make_v impatient_a by_o their_o want_n so_o they_o can_v for_o the_o most_o part_n take_v the_o benefit_n of_o the_o aforementioned_a help_v in_o any_o such_o sort_n as_o the_o other_o may_v now_o if_o any_o here_o will_v object_v and_o say_v as_o indeed_o he_o may_v objection_n wealth_n if_o he_o mark_v the_o course_n of_o the_o most_o wealthy_a at_o this_o day_n yea_o even_o of_o those_o who_o will_v seem_v religious_a that_o these_o benefit_n of_o god_n do_v rather_o draw_v man_n away_o from_o fervency_n and_o forwardness_n in_o a_o godly_a life_n then_o further_o and_o help_v they_o thereto_o answer_n i_o answer_v that_o if_o it_o be_v so_o thing_n it_o be_v the_o sin_n of_o the_o person_n who_o be_v so_o unthriftie_a user_n of_o god_n blessing_n and_o their_o gross_a unthankfulness_n to_o he_o who_o do_v thereby_o provoke_v he_o to_o take_v away_o his_o bounty_n from_o they_o or_o to_o give_v it_o they_o in_o his_o wrath_n and_o heavy_a displeasure_n for_o i_o be_o sure_a the_o lord_n teach_v they_o the_o contrary_a namely_o that_o where_o much_o be_v bestow_v there_o much_o shall_v be_v require_v and_o that_o this_o be_v the_o end_n of_o the_o abundance_n of_o all_o good_a thing_n which_o he_o give_v we_o that_o we_o shall_v serve_v he_o with_o joyfulness_n and_o with_o a_o good_a heart_n 28.47_o indeed_o as_o man_n go_v to_o work_v in_o the_o world_n who_o have_v receive_v great_a riches_n at_o god_n hand_n it_o our_o hope_n with_o joy_n from_o day_n to_o day_n that_o we_o may_v say_v it_o true_o that_o our_o soul_n be_v much_o more_o well_o like_n by_o the_o abundance_n or_o necessary_n of_o this_o life_n which_o we_o have_v or_o else_o we_o shall_v never_o be_v able_a to_o free_v ourselves_o from_o the_o blemish_n of_o worldliness_n but_o if_o this_o grace_n accompany_v the_o three_o former_a in_o we_o we_o shall_v well_o declare_v that_o we_o nourish_v a_o heavenly_a mind_n and_o labour_n against_o this_o great_a sin_n of_o covet_v &_o worldliness_n but_o to_o go_v further_o our_o riches_n shall_v do_v we_o other_o good_a beside_o that_o which_o i_o have_v speak_v of_o 16.9_o for_o we_o shall_v make_v they_o our_o friend_n to_o help_v we_o into_o everlasting_a habitation_n so_o our_o saviour_n counsel_v we_o say_v make_v you_o friend_n of_o your_o riches_n and_o that_o be_v by_o lay_v they_o up_o in_o the_o lord_n hand_n while_o we_o be_v careful_a to_o bestow_v they_o on_o god_n we_o come_v so_o shall_v we_o go_v and_o what_o profit_n have_v we_o that_o we_o have_v travel_v for_o the_o wind_n that_o be_v in_o vain_a and_o for_o nothing_o oh_o the_o good_a that_o many_o may_v do_v with_o their_o good_n i_o say_v not_o to_o other_o but_o even_o to_o themselves_o if_o they_o be_v careful_a to_o bestow_v well_o but_o some_o part_n of_o that_o which_o they_o have_v but_o this_o be_v no_o place_n to_o bewail_v such_o case_n neither_o have_v man_n almost_o any_o ear_n to_o hear_v or_o heart_n to_o lament_v such_o neglect_n of_o duty_n to_o conclude_v therefore_o this_o last_o remedy_n against_o covetousness_n and_o worldliness_n the_o monster_n of_o many_o head_n even_o this_o good_a which_o i_o have_v say_v we_o may_v do_v to_o ourselves_o with_o our_o riches_n every_o one_o in_o his_o several_a estate_n who_o be_v able_a to_o give_v and_o have_v no_o need_n to_o receive_v remedy_n which_o if_o we_o do_v careful_o look_v to_o who_o see_v not_o how_o it_o will_v chase_v away_o the_o grossness_n and_o danger_n of_o this_o foul_a sin_n and_o therefore_o much_o more_o if_o all_o these_o remedy_n be_v use_v 1_o that_o we_o do_v no_o man_n hurt_v 2_o but_o good_a as_o occasion_n shall_v be_v offer_v 3_o nor_o hurt_v ourselves_o by_o they_o but_o benefit_n our_o soul_n we_o may_v be_v bold_a to_o assure_v ourselves_o that_o we_o shall_v disgrace_v covetousness_n in_o we_o one_o of_o the_o great_a mischief_n that_o the_o devil_n can_v work_v us._n for_o if_o we_o do_v take_v heed_n that_o no_o man_n in_o any_o deal_n might_n charge_v we_o just_o with_o unmercifulnesse_n or_o injustice_n nor_o our_o own_o conscience_n if_o our_o hand_n and_o our_o heart_n do_v go_v where_o we_o be_v bind_v to_o relieve_v and_o discharge_v duty_n note_n
any_o thing_n about_o their_o business_n and_o deal_n but_o they_o shall_v too_o easy_o show_v and_o bewray_v how_o far_o they_o be_v from_o have_v their_o conversation_n in_o heaven_n while_o they_o be_v occupy_v here_o on_o the_o earth_n and_o that_o it_o be_v a_o thing_n so_o common_a to_o be_v unsettle_a wound_a and_o sore_o shake_v by_o earthly_a deal_n and_o commodity_n and_o another_o great_a cause_n there_o be_v of_o this_o sin_n and_o that_o be_v cause_n a_o persuasion_n root_v in_o they_o that_o no_o man_n how_o godly_a soever_o he_o be_v can_v go_v about_o they_o with_o a_o heavenly_a mind_n and_o that_o a_o christian_n be_v not_o tie_v to_o measure_n and_o square_v out_o his_o earthly_a and_o domestical_a affair_n after_o the_o rule_n of_o scripture_n but_o that_o every_o man_n be_v to_o do_v herein_o as_o he_o see_v good_a &_o that_o he_o can_v do_v such_o thing_n of_o his_o own_o head_n without_o help_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o opinion_n be_v so_o deep_o settle_v in_o man_n mind_n through_o satan_n crafty_o beguile_a of_o they_o that_o the_o most_o even_o of_o those_o who_o be_v of_o good_a hope_n be_v both_o at_o home_n and_o about_o their_o deal_n in_o the_o world_n with_o wife_n servant_n neighbour_n or_o stranger_n oftentimes_o more_o like_a bruit_n beast_n or_o frantic_a person_n then_o sober_a and_o religious_a christian_n and_o it_o may_v be_v easy_o gather_v that_o they_o tie_v all_o religion_n for_o the_o most_o part_n to_o the_o public_a place_n that_o be_v to_o say_v to_o go_v to_o the_o church_n once_o in_o a_o week_n to_o do_v as_o other_o do_v there_o and_o to_o order_v other_o matter_n after_o their_o own_o discretion_n so_o little_a do_v such_o consider_v what_o the_o apostle_n have_v teach_v 10.31_o whether_o we_o eat_v or_o drink_v etc._n etc._n and_o again_o do_v these_o thing_n as_o though_o you_o do_v they_o not_o now_o when_o man_n give_v this_o liberty_n to_o themselves_o not_o to_o be_v direct_v by_o god_n in_o their_o most_o common_a deal_n and_o when_o the_o devil_n have_v bring_v they_o to_o this_o point_n who_o see_v not_o how_o every_o thing_n which_o they_o be_v occupy_v about_o family-matter_n be_v make_v a_o let_v and_o a_o snare_n to_o they_o and_o become_v a_o block_n in_o their_o way_n which_o they_o stumble_v at_o a_o man_n shall_v not_o speak_v to_o his_o wife_n but_o he_o break_v into_o frowardness_n one_o neighbour_n contend_v fall_v out_o with_o and_o rail_v at_o another_o for_o a_o matter_n of_o nothing_o and_o one_o be_v unquiet_a with_o servant_n vex_v at_o child_n yea_o curse_a they_o that_o ever_o they_o be_v bear_v impatient_a and_o wayward_a at_o every_o thing_n which_o go_v against_o he_o fret_v if_o any_o man_n save_o a_o penny_n by_o he_o though_o it_o be_v by_o good_a and_o lawful_a deal_n rejoice_v if_o he_o can_v pull_v aught_o to_o himself_o from_o any_o and_o infinite_a other_o such_o and_o this_o be_v the_o life_n of_o many_o yet_o who_o be_v wise_a to_o see_v and_o mark_v this_o but_o that_o the_o devil_n may_v lead_v the_o most_o as_o it_o be_v blindfolded_z whither_o soever_o he_o will_v a_o wise_a man_n will_v therefore_o i_o hope_v better_o consider_v this_o it_o and_o learn_v to_o disburden_v himself_o of_o multitude_n of_o worldly_a deal_n and_o business_n see_v they_o suffer_v not_o the_o mind_n to_o be_v free_a and_o to_o subdue_v his_o affection_n so_o as_o i_o have_v before_o teach_v he_o that_o he_o may_v have_v they_o rule_v and_o under_o government_n in_o one_o part_n of_o his_o life_n as_o well_o as_o in_o another_o and_o about_o family-matter_n as_o well_o as_o those_o which_o be_v most_o weighty_a other_o remedy_n can_v be_v set_v down_o but_o see_v this_o evil_n rise_v from_o the_o heart_n which_o be_v stuff_v with_o sundry_a corruption_n as_o distrust_n too_o great_a delight-taking_a in_o the_o world_n rashness_n desire_v of_o get_v fear_v of_o lose_v etc._n etc._n that_o therefore_o it_o be_v careful_o keep_v purge_v from_o these_o and_o that_o he_o be_v well_o arm_v as_o i_o have_v counsel_v before_o and_o particular_o with_o that_o part_n of_o the_o armour_n which_o be_v requisite_a against_o this_o point_n of_o satan_n deceive_v he_o as_o righteousness_n patience_n &_o such_o like_a see_v he_o who_o be_v thus_o bewitch_v by_o he_o as_o have_v now_o be_v set_v down_o high_o dishonour_v god_n and_o reproach_v his_o profession_n but_o faith_n must_v banish_v distrust_n and_o hope_n must_v chase_v away_o doubtfulness_n and_o fear_n and_o he_o must_v know_v that_o whatsoever_o he_o want_v of_o they_o and_o such_o like_a grace_n to_o suppress_v the_o say_a noisomeness_n of_o the_o heart_n so_o much_o the_o great_a ought_v his_o travel_n be_v till_o he_o attain_v unto_o they_o and_o yet_o when_o he_o have_v they_o to_o stand_v fast_o in_o hold_v they_o and_o if_o he_o know_v not_o his_o sin_n to_o be_v doubtfulness_n distrust_n and_o fear_n etc._n etc._n let_v he_o take_v to_o he_o the_o sword_n of_o the_o spirit_n even_o the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o may_v clear_o show_v they_o to_o he_o more_o particular_a remedy_n must_v be_v seek_v according_a to_o any_o particular_a sin_n by_o well_o observe_v these_o in_o general_n 19.30_o furthermore_o the_o devil_n take_v occasion_n by_o change_n of_o company_n dwell_v and_o acquaintance_n to_o steal_v away_o man_n heart_n from_o goodness_n as_o he_o do_v thus_o deceive_v lot_n and_o to_o neglect_v the_o use_n of_o good_a mean_n public_o and_o private_o as_o the_o manner_n of_o many_o be_v and_o to_o change_v religion_n as_o they_o say_v with_o the_o place_n rare_a and_o no_o marvel_n when_o neither_o the_o word_n of_o god_n meet_v with_o they_o where_o they_o become_v to_o awaken_v instruct_v and_o admonish_v they_o neither_o good_a neighbour_n to_o observe_v and_o provoke_v they_o to_o love_n and_o good_a work_n nor_o to_o admonish_v they_o 15._o when_o they_o have_v turn_v out_o of_o the_o way_n but_o contrary_o evil_a talk_n and_o company_n be_v find_v in_o stead_n of_o they_o for_o such_o force_n we_o read_v to_o be_v in_o they_o that_o they_o be_v able_a to_o corrupt_v even_o good_a manner_n but_o although_o they_o meet_v not_o with_o these_o yet_o the_o devil_n take_v occasion_n by_o the_o very_a change_n of_o place_n to_o make_v they_o change_v their_o manner_n which_o mighty_o overweigheth_a with_o good_a man_n that_o they_o soon_o gather_v rust_n as_o coldness_n looseness_n etc._n etc._n from_o other_o than_o they_o shall_v season_v they_o with_o goodness_n and_o when_o they_o live_v not_o with_o such_o as_o know_v they_o to_o have_v be_v forward_a christian_n it_o be_v a_o strong_a provocation_n to_o they_o and_o a_o tempt_a of_o they_o to_o be_v like_o other_o and_o to_o become_v more_o backward_o than_o they_o be_v before_o as_o we_o may_v hear_v of_o many_o for_o they_o shall_v be_v set_v upon_o by_o the_o wicked_a train_n till_o they_o have_v find_v out_o what_o be_v in_o they_o that_o if_o they_o can_v draw_v they_o to_o evil_a they_o may_v lead_v they_o with_o despite_n and_o reproach_n contemn_v again_o when_o we_o see_v how_o little_a account_n holiness_n and_o christian_n practice_n of_o duty_n be_v in_o the_o world_n either_o in_o high_a or_o low_o for_o the_o most_o part_n yea_o and_o that_o wise_a man_n be_v grow_v to_o count_v it_o mere_a foolishness_n and_o niceness_n to_o make_v conscience_n to_o do_v those_o duty_n whereunto_o our_o knowledge_n lead_v we_o be_v it_o not_o think_v we_o a_o strong_a cord_n to_o draw_v we_o after_o the_o multitude_n stumble_v especial_o when_o they_o who_o bold_o contemn_v goodness_n shall_v yet_o be_v see_v to_o be_v merry_a and_o lusty_a and_o without_o fear_n as_o though_o they_o have_v do_v nothing_o but_o that_o which_o they_o can_v justify_v and_o as_o if_o there_o be_v no_o fear_n of_o the_o judgement_n day_n at_o all_o how_o mighty_o he_o prevail_v even_o against_o the_o godly_a by_o this_o occasion_n the_o example_n of_o the_o prophet_n do_v plain_o declare_v etc._n for_o when_o i_o see_v say_v he_o the_o wicked_a licentious_a and_o to_o talk_v presumptuous_o and_o set_v their_o mouth_n against_o heaven_n etc._n etc._n yea_o and_o more_o than_o this_o to_o utter_v it_o bold_o how_o do_v god_n know_v it_o and_o for_o all_o this_o yet_o they_o prosper_v in_o the_o world_n and_o increase_v in_o riches_n certain_o i_o say_v he_o have_v cleanse_v my_o heart_n in_o vain_a &_o wash_v my_o hand_n in_o innocence_n so_o that_o the_o licentious_a course_n of_o bad_a man_n so_o common_o continue_v and_o oft_o without_o plague_n as_o to_o god_n servant_n they_o seem_v to_o be_v and_o contrary_o their_o own_o life_n to_o be_v as_o it_o be_v a_o continual_a mourning_n and_o
take_v away_o in_o great_a part_n there_o be_v no_o cause_n why_o they_o shall_v fear_v that_o as_o too_o hard_a which_o shall_v not_o hurt_v they_o or_o seek_v to_o shun_v that_o as_o too_o unpleasant_a the_o benefit_n whereof_o they_o have_v not_o prove_v some_o say_v they_o like_v it_o well_o and_o will_v with_o all_o their_o heart_n that_o they_o can_v practice_v this_o direction_n but_o they_o have_v so_o many_o let_v to_o hold_v they_o off_o and_o cut_v they_o from_o it_o that_o they_o do_v not_o see_v how_o they_o shall_v in_o any_o mean_a sort_n perform_v the_o duty_n through_o the_o day_n require_v in_o it_o but_o such_o be_v to_o know_v follow_v that_o the_o chief_a let_n of_o all_o from_o a_o godly_a life_n which_o be_v the_o intemperancy_n of_o the_o mind_n and_o unbridled_a lust_n thereof_o be_v by_o this_o direction_n best_o remedy_v and_o stay_v the_o most_o of_o other_o which_o be_v outward_a in_o the_o world_n as_o provocation_n temptation_n and_o other_o like_a occasion_n be_v hereby_o also_o and_o by_o the_o well_o order_v of_o the_o affection_n prevent_v and_o avoid_v or_o the_o easy_o bear_v let_v and_o as_o for_o the_o three_o kind_n which_o be_v man_n calling_n deal_n labour_n which_o through_o ignorance_n many_o do_v mean_a when_o they_o complain_v of_o hindrance_n be_v none_o at_o all_o but_o as_o they_o be_v make_v by_o the_o unskilfulnesse_n carelessness_n or_o other_o sin_n of_o the_o party_n which_o ill_o use_v they_o and_o to_o this_o purpose_n i_o will_v tell_v thou_o what_o i_o have_v hear_v a_o man_n of_o good_a all_o diligence_n 4.23_o for_o from_o thence_o come_v life_n so_o that_o you_o see_v the_o chief_a hindrance_n be_v unfaithfulness_n hardness_n of_o heart_n frowardness_n licentiousness_n and_o such_o like_a evil_a distemperature_n of_o the_o heart_n by_o mean_n whereof_o outward_a occasion_n of_o sin_v do_v the_o easy_o provoke_v we_o and_o our_o lawfull_a action_n which_o we_o go_v about_o come_v untoward_o to_o pass_v but_o perhaps_o they_o will_v reply_v thus_o we_o will_v sometime_o pray_v or_o read_v by_o ourselves_o or_o look_v to_o some_o other_o duty_n which_o god_n require_v for_o the_o well_o guide_v of_o our_o life_n when_o we_o must_v needs_o go_v about_o our_o own_o work_n or_o the_o princess_n business_n or_o such_o like_a let_n of_o one_o sort_n or_o other_o call_v we_o away_o so_o that_o we_o can_v perform_v they_o whereas_o they_o which_o be_v free_a from_o these_o outward_a business_n and_o service_n may_v take_v their_o liberty_n in_o these_o spiritual_a duty_n but_o i_o ask_v this_o question_n of_o they_o again_o why_o they_o shall_v be_v most_o earnest_o bend_v to_o prayer_n and_o read_n at_o such_o time_n when_o they_o see_v other_o duty_n to_o be_v lay_v upon_o they_o necessary_o be_v it_o not_o because_o they_o see_v they_o can_v do_v they_o that_o the_o devil_n set_v they_o forward_o so_o hot_o at_o such_o a_o time_n to_o go_v about_o they_o that_o they_o may_v think_v themselves_o to_o be_v godly_a than_o they_o be_v and_o so_o be_v deceive_v impediment_n and_o why_o be_v they_o not_o but_o even_o half_a so_o fervent_a in_o go_v about_o read_v pray_v and_o other_o heavenly_a serve_v of_o god_n when_o they_o have_v time_n and_o leisure_n which_o if_o they_o be_v it_o be_v well_o let_v they_o rest_v with_o peace_n therein_o so_o shall_v they_o be_v the_o fit_a to_o outward_a duty_n and_o so_o do_v they_o must_v not_o count_v themselves_o let_v when_o they_o do_v that_o which_o be_v their_o call_n if_o they_o do_v not_o let_v they_o wise_o mark_v how_o they_o be_v blindfolded_a on_o both_o side_n and_o make_v conscience_n so_o to_o do_v the_o one_o duty_n in_o his_o season_n that_o the_o other_o be_v not_o count_v a_o hindrance_n of_o they_o from_o the_o serve_v of_o god_n but_o be_v perform_v also_o and_o that_o with_o cheerfulness_n when_o it_o lie_v upon_o they_o and_o that_o which_o i_o answer_v in_o this_o one_o i_o will_v have_v to_o be_v understand_v of_o all_o other_o of_o the_o like_a kind_n of_o question_n and_o therefore_o hereof_o enough_o only_o i_o think_v good_a to_o put_v they_o in_o mind_n meet_v that_o when_o two_o duty_n meet_v together_o at_o one_o time_n both_o be_v of_o great_a weight_n that_o they_o pray_v god_n to_o give_v they_o discretion_n to_o consider_v which_o be_v most_o necessary_a always_o follow_v the_o light_n which_o god_n give_v they_o and_o in_o thing_n indifferent_a to_o do_v that_o which_o be_v most_o to_o god_n glory_n their_o own_o peace_n and_o the_o benefit_n of_o their_o brethren_n an_o other_o sort_n there_o be_v who_o be_v not_o trouble_v about_o this_o yet_o have_v another_o doubt_n which_o discourage_v they_o very_o much_o from_o practise_v such_o a_o christian_a course_n for_o when_o they_o hear_v that_o there_o must_v not_o only_o be_v appoint_v set_v time_n to_o pray_v and_o meditate_v but_o also_o that_o in_o our_o go_n through_o the_o whole_a day_n we_o must_v watch_v against_o evil_n and_o even_o in_o particular_a action_n be_v circumspect_a that_o we_o sin_v not_o against_o our_o knowledge_n they_o ask_v whether_o they_o may_v not_o have_v their_o mind_n on_o their_o work_n while_o they_o be_v at_o it_o if_o it_o be_v grant_v they_o they_o ask_v how_o they_o shall_v do_v both_o together_o i_o say_v no_o scruple_n be_v to_o be_v make_v of_o this_o but_o that_o there_o shall_v be_v a_o mind_v and_o that_o careful_o of_o those_o thing_n which_o we_o do_v though_o they_o be_v not_o spiritual_a neither_o need_v there_o be_v any_o question_n make_v of_o this_o but_o that_o they_o have_v after_o the_o manner_n of_o carnal_a and_o worldly_a man_n so_o fraught_v and_o stuff_v their_o head_n with_o earthly_a thought_n and_o worldly_a desire_n that_o they_o can_v unburden_v themselves_o of_o they_o when_o they_o pray_v unto_o god_n and_o therefore_o when_o he_o do_v afterward_o give_v they_o conscience_n thereof_o and_o of_o other_o sin_n they_o be_v so_o grieve_v to_o remember_v their_o long_a continue_a offence_n that_o way_n in_o that_o they_o be_v wont_n to_o fill_v their_o heart_n with_o all_o sensuality_n and_o worldliness_n that_o now_o they_o think_v they_o dispease_v god_n when_o they_o have_v they_o set_v upon_o their_o business_n at_o all_o even_o as_o he_o that_o have_v abuse_v music_n mirth_n or_o meat_n dangerous_o think_v afterward_o that_o he_o may_v not_o use_v they_o in_o any_o sort_n whereas_o they_o may_v understand_v that_o there_o be_v no_o such_o disagreement_n or_o contrariety_n betwixt_o holy_a thing_n and_o lawful_a liberty_n neither_o therefore_o betwixt_o spiritual_a duty_n and_o the_o work_n of_o our_o call_n but_o that_o there_o may_v be_v recourse_n have_v from_o the_o one_o to_o the_o other_o without_o quench_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n spirit_n in_o us._n and_o he_o that_o do_v both_o of_o they_o in_o their_o season_n as_o become_v he_o i_o mean_v with_o a_o single_a and_o honest_a heart_n may_v worship_v god_n in_o prayer_n hear_v his_o word_n or_o any_o such_o like_a and_o not_o be_v distract_v at_o the_o same_o time_n by_o earthly_a thought_n and_o fantasy_n so_o as_o they_o shall_v interrupt_v and_o break_v he_o off_o and_o again_o the_o same_o man_n may_v be_v occupy_v in_o his_o earthly_a affair_n and_o business_n in_o such_o wise_a that_o he_o come_n to_o they_o with_o a_o religious_a and_o well_o order_v heart_n need_v not_o be_v distract_v unsettle_a or_o make_v unfit_a thereby_o to_o other_o duty_n of_o christianity_n afterward_o nor_o any_o thing_n more_o earthly_a mind_a while_n he_o be_v at_o they_o for_o why_o even_o they_o be_v the_o work_n which_o god_n have_v set_v he_o about_o and_o therefore_o obey_v he_o therein_o he_o may_v be_v quiet_a yea_o and_o cheerful_a which_o god_n allow_v we_o free_o if_o we_o can_v be_v wise_a to_o see_v and_o use_v our_o liberty_n to_o our_o good_a deal_n for_o a_o godly_a mind_a man_n who_o have_v taste_v how_o precious_a and_o sweet_a a_o thing_n it_o be_v to_o keep_v peace_n with_o god_n in_o all_o his_o way_n and_o have_v experience_n how_o soon_o his_o heart_n be_v draw_v into_o the_o world_n by_o the_o deceitfulness_n of_o sin_n will_v with_o such_o faithfulness_n keep_v his_o affection_n knit_v unto_o goodness_n as_o he_o know_v he_o ought_v to_o do_v that_o he_o be_v not_o drown_v in_o
doubt_n objection_n and_o cavil_n which_o may_v be_v raise_v from_o or_o by_o occasion_n of_o the_o former_a doctrine_n as_o also_o of_o the_o answer_v thereto_o and_o now_o to_o shut_v up_o this_o treatise_n and_o the_o whole_a book_n for_o conclusion_n a_o few_o word_n in_o the_o way_n of_o exhortation_n i_o add_v both_o to_o the_o godly_a and_o godless_a and_o so_o i_o end_v to_o they_o i_o say_v this_o godly_a see_v you_o have_v some_o experience_n already_o that_o it_o be_v no_o lose_a labour_n to_o live_v under_o god_n protection_n and_o government_n but_o that_o in_o serve_v he_o
