many_o man_n pray_v hear_v and_o perform_v such_o duty_n yet_o it_o be_v not_o conscience_n that_o be_v the_o motive_n it_o be_v some_o other_o sinister_a and_o unlawful_a reason_n that_o insinuate_v itself_o so_o that_o the_o same_o duty_n may_v be_v do_v out_o of_o conscience_n to_o god_n by_o some_o and_o from_o corrupt_a sinful_a motive_n by_o other_o the_o apostle_n rom._n 13._o 5._o press_a obedience_n to_o magistrate_n because_o it_o may_v be_v think_v that_o christian_a liberty_n free_v they_o from_o any_o such_o yoke_n he_o urge_v it_o not_o only_o for_o fear_n but_o for_o conscience_n sake_n so_o that_o if_o it_o have_v be_v only_a fear_n to_o lose_v their_o estate_n to_o lose_v their_o life_n and_o not_o out_o of_o conscience_n to_o god_n ordinance_n though_o they_o conscious_a with_o our_o heart_n of_o all_o the_o evil_n we_o have_v do_v yea_o know_v more_o sin_n by_o we_o than_o we_o do_v by_o ourselves_o yet_o we_o can_v attribute_v conscience_n to_o god_n because_o the_o notion_n of_o that_o be_v to_o denote_v the_o sense_n and_o awe_n of_o some_o superior_a who_o bear_v witness_n of_o our_o evil_a action_n and_o be_v able_a to_o condemn_v for_o they_o conscience_n therefore_o be_v in_o angel_n because_o they_o have_v a_o superior_a they_o be_v not_o to_o be_v a_o rule_n to_o themselves_o and_o christ_n also_o have_v a_o holy_a &_o undefiled_a conscience_n which_o yet_o because_o of_o our_o sin_n be_v great_o afflict_v with_o the_o sense_n of_o god_n wrath_n but_o god_n have_v no_o superior_a therefore_o he_o have_v indeed_o infinite_a knowledge_n but_o not_o conscience_n hence_o when_o the_o apostle_n call_v it_o conscience_n of_o god_n that_o be_v objective_o a_o conscience_n which_o do_v respect_v the_o will_n and_o authority_n of_o god_n that_o do_v not_o look_v to_o man_n to_o their_o applause_n and_o praise_n but_o unto_o god_n so_o that_o herein_o will_v appear_v a_o universal_a pollution_n natural_o upon_o the_o he_o they_o dare_v not_o displease_v he_o no_o but_o only_o the_o law_n of_o the_o land_n or_o some_o outward_a constraint_n make_v they_o do_v so_o it_o be_v not_o pure_a conscience_n thus_o also_o there_o be_v many_o devote_a son_n of_o belial_n to_o all_o profaneness_n that_o will_v with_o all_o their_o heart_n run_v into_o all_o excess_n of_o riot_v into_o drunkenness_n and_o uncleanness_n but_o they_o dare_v not_o they_o be_v keep_v off_o as_o a_o dog_n from_o the_o bone_n with_o a_o whip_n all_o their_o desire_n be_v towards_o it_o but_o the_o penalty_n and_o justice_n which_o the_o civil_a magistrate_n will_v inflict_v upon_o he_o this_o make_v he_o forbear_v it_o be_v far_o from_o any_o conscience_n towards_o god_n that_o do_v restrain_v they_o oh_o then_o bewail_v the_o corruption_n of_o man_n in_o this_o kind_n never_o in_o any_o duty_n carry_v out_o for_o conscience_n sake_n never_o abstain_v from_o sin_n for_o conscience_n sake_n but_o because_o of_o punishment_n and_o the_o judgement_n of_o other_o therefore_o in_o private_a though_o god_n see_v thou_o as_o well_o as_o if_o it_o be_v at_o the_o market-crosse_a they_o can_v run_v into_o all_o lewdness_n oh_o if_o it_o be_v conscience_n to_o god_n thou_o will_v â—ake_v heed_n of_o heart-sinne_n as_o well_o as_o of_o bodily_a thou_o will_v be_v afraid_a to_o sin_n in_o secret_a as_o well_o as_o in_o public_a because_o god_n be_v every_o where_o and_o know_v all_o thing_n and_o thou_o have_v a_o conscience_n towards_o he_o and_o no_o wonder_n if_o conscience_n be_v thus_o predominant_o pollute_v in_o natural_a man_n for_o even_o in_o the_o godly_a themselves_o how_o often_o do_v they_o find_v proud_a vain_a self-seeking_a thought_n insinuate_v into_o they_o so_o that_o it_o be_v not_o only_o out_o of_o conscience_n to_o god_n they_o do_v their_o best_a duty_n do_v not_o some_o vainglorious_a thought_n like_o so_o many_o thief_n secret_o creep_v into_o the_o heart_n and_o be_v ready_a to_o rob_v thou_o of_o thy_o treasure_n it_o be_v true_a indeed_o to_o the_o gracious_a heart_n these_o be_v a_o burden_n and_o therefore_o with_o abraham_n they_o drive_v away_o these_o fly_n from_o the_o sacrifice_n yet_o they_o come_v again_o they_o do_v repellendo_fw-la tenere_fw-la and_o tenendo_fw-la repellere_fw-la as_o tertullian_n in_o another_o case_n they_o beat_v they_o back_o and_o yet_o they_o hold_v they_o also_o they_o strive_v with_o they_o and_o yet_o embrace_v they_o thus_o many_o a_o sinful_a motion_n and_o vain_a thought_n be_v like_o bernard_n unclean_a suggestion_n which_o
