itself_o be_v moral_a and_o perpetual_o bind_v the_o obedience_n whereof_o have_v this_o blessing_n perpetual_o more_o or_o less_o annex_v to_o it_o as_o the_o profanation_n thereof_o have_v usual_o against_o will-worship_n sure_a it_o be_v enough_o that_o it_o be_v not_o repeal_v in_o it_o so_o it_o be_v here_o as_o be_v say_v 3._o sundry_a other_o positive_a law_n be_v bind_v which_o be_v not_o day_n but_o what_o day_n soever_o shall_v be_v by_o god_n solemn_o set_v or_o be_v set_v apart_o for_o holy_a rest_n and_o the_o command_n will_v run_v for_o our_o observe_v the_o lord_n day_n suppose_v its_o institution_n as_o well_o as_o it_o do_v for_o that_o although_o it_o more_o direct_o tie_v they_o yet_o it_o do_v so_o but_o as_o a_o reason_n even_o as_o the_o preface_n prefix_v apply_v the_o last_o ephes_n 6._o 2._o without_o relation_n to_o that_o particular_a land_n or_o people_n but_o as_o applicable_a and_o common_a to_o any_o land_n or_o people_n make_v conscience_n of_o obedience_n to_o god_n command_n but_o here_o it_o may_v be_v object_v 1._o the_o jew_n keep_v the_o seven_o day_n answ_n 1._o not_o by_o virtue_n of_o this_o command_n but_o by_o its_o prior_n all_o to_o be_v a_o natural_a day_n now_o it_o be_v question_v main_o whether_o its_o begininning_n be_v to_o be_v reckon_v from_o evening_n about_o sun_n setting_z or_o darkness_n to_o sun_n set_v the_o next_o day_n or_o if_o it_o be_v to_o be_v reckon_v from_o morning_n that_o be_v as_o we_o fix_v it_o when_o the_o sun_n begin_v to_o ascend_v towards_o we_o after_o midnight_n which_o be_v morning_n large_o take_v as_o its_o evening_n large_o take_v when_o the_o sun_n begin_v to_o decline_v after_o midday_n in_o this_o debate_n then_o we_o take_v morning_n and_o evening_n large_o as_o they_o divide_v the_o whole_a natural_a day_n so_o the_o morning_n be_v from_o twelve_o at_o night_n to_o twelve_o in_o the_o day_n and_o the_o evening_n from_o twelve_o in_o the_o day_n to_o twelve_o at_o night_n and_o it_o must_v be_v so_o here_o for_o 1._o moses_n gen._n 1._o divide_v the_o natural_a day_n in_o morning_n and_o evening_n which_o two_o put_v together_o make_v up_o the_o whole_a from_o god_n example_n be_v no_o doubt_n propose_v for_o our_o imitation_n in_o this_o hence_o the_o morning_n watch_n be_v before_o day_n and_o the_o morning_n sacrifice_n about_o nine_o of_o the_o clock_n so_o the_o evening_n sacrifice_n be_v about_o three_o in_o the_o afternoon_n and_o the_o evening_n watch_v about_o nine_o at_o night_n 2._o it_o be_v grant_v by_o all_o and_o be_v clear_a from_o this_o command_n that_o as_o we_o account_v the_o six_o work_a day_n of_o the_o week_n so_o must_v we_o account_v the_o seven_o for_o one_o must_v begin_v where_o another_o end_v and_o if_o one_o of_o they_o begin_v at_o the_o evening_n or_o morning_n all_o the_o rest_n must_v do_v so_o likewise_o 3._o we_o suppose_v the_o sanctify_a of_o the_o ordinary_a sabbath_n be_v from_o morning_n to_o evening_n i_o say_v of_o the_o ordinary_a sabbath_n because_o for_o extraordinary_a sabbath_n as_o of_o the_o passover_n exod._n 12._o and_o of_o the_o atonement_n levit._n 23._o there_o be_v special_a reason_n and_o though_o otherways_o they_o be_v to_o be_v sanctify_v as_o sabbath_n yet_o that_o they_o be_v to_o begin_v in_o the_o evening_n before_o
to_o their_o need_n 3._o to_o what_o may_v convenient_o attain_v the_o end_n yet_o it_o be_v needful_a here_o to_o add_v some_o qualification_n or_o caveat_n lest_o folk_n indulge_v themselves_o too_o much_o and_o exceed_v under_o the_o pretext_n of_o the_o former_a liberty_n which_o the_o lord_n have_v condescend_v to_o leave_v man_n at_o 1._o that_o man_n will_v see_v that_o the_o necessity_n be_v real_a that_o real_a sickness_n keep_v at_o home_n that_o real_a hazard_n make_v they_o fly_v or_o make_v they_o bide_v at_o home_n that_o it_o be_v such_o a_o necessity_n as_o they_o caâ—not_v themselves_o if_o the_o thing_n may_v have_v be_v do_v at_o another_o time_n that_o necessity_n will_v not_o excuse_v though_o if_o the_o sin_n be_v take_v with_o and_o repent_v of_o and_o christ_n flee_v unto_o for_o the_o pardon_n of_o it_o we_o may_v go_v about_o the_o do_v that_o lawful_o which_o sinful_o we_o have_v necessitate_v ourselves_o unto_o as_o suppose_v one_o have_v get_v warning_n to_o fly_v the_o day_n before_o to_o bring_v such_o a_o physician_n or_o to_o provide_v such_o drug_n etc._n etc._n if_o he_o do_v it_o not_o than_o he_o sin_v yet_o when_o necessity_n on_o the_o lord_n day_n make_v ordinary_a civil_a visit_n begin_v voyage_n etc._n etc._n will_v not_o sustain_v and_o bear_v weight_n before_o god_n when_o folk_n do_v they_o that_o day_n to_o have_v their_o own_o work_n day_n free_a and_o so_o put_v by_o the_o proper_a duty_n of_o the_o lord_n day_n for_o some_o thing_n that_o may_v be_v do_v the_o day_n or_o day_n follow_v thus_o rest_n be_v command_v exod_a 34._o 21_o even_o in_o sow_v rhyme_n and_o harvest_n because_o the_o necessity_n be_v not_o clear_a but_o depend_v on_o ordinary_a providence_n and_o folk_n be_v to_o expect_v to_o the_o act_n of_o they_o 6._o it_o will_v be_v advert_v to_o that_o they_o be_v do_v without_o inregularity_n and_o so_o as_o not_o to_o give_v offence_n by_o they_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o christ_n ever_o give_v the_o reason_n of_o what_o he_o do_v on_o the_o sabbath_n lest_o other_o not_o know_v our_o necessity_n judge_v we_o guilty_a of_o sabbath-breaking_a or_o be_v involve_v respect_n to_o gain_v or_o applause_n on_o the_o sabbath_n or_o if_o any_o man_n shall_v make_v a_o visit_n for_o a_o mere_a civil_a end_n as_o we_o visit_v on_o other_o day_n without_o a_o suitable_a respect_n to_o spiritual_a edification_n or_o furtherance_n of_o piety_n it_o will_v mar_v all_o and_o will_v be_v find_v a_o breach_n of_o the_o sabbath_n 8._o we_o will_v beware_v of_o spend_v too_o much_o time_n in_o these_o thing_n but_o will_v endeavour_v timely_a and_o quick_o to_o expede_n and_o dispatch_v they_o and_o right_o to_o try_v they_o dress_n of_o meat_n and_o trim_v adorn_v and_o busking_a of_o folk_n body_n will_v not_o be_v find_v a_o well_o spend_v part_n of_o the_o sabbath_n when_o it_o shut_v out_o other_o duty_n and_o get_v too_o much_o time_n as_o it_o do_v with_o many_o by_o all_o which_o we_o may_v see_v what_o need_n there_o be_v to_o watch_v over_o ourselves_o in_o these_o thing_n lest_o our_o liberty_n be_v turn_v into_o licentiousness_n and_o lest_o we_o grow_v either_o idle_a or_o carnal_a on_o that_o day_n let_v we_o then_o consider_v how_o far_o this_o rest_n extend_v and_o under_o it_o we_o take_v in_o 1._o the_o rest_n of_o the_o whole_a man_n which_o tend_v to_o our_o external_a profit_n pleasure_n satisfaction_n etc._n etc._n all_o work_n of_o our_o calling_n which_o make_v for_o the_o increase_n of_o outward_a gain_n and_o profit_n love_v thy_o neighbour_n as_o thyself_o which_o show_v that_o there_o shall_v be_v a_o warmness_n of_o affection_n in_o we_o to_o our_o neighbour_n opposite_a to_o hatred_n
we_o at_o all_o the_o contrary_a whereof_o we_o have_v make_v out_o it_o must_v then_o follow_v that_o it_o be_v not_o the_o seven_o day_n but_o a_o seven_o day_n which_o this_o command_n respect_v of_o work_n on_o a_o seven_o of_o rest_n for_o the_o one_o determine_v the_o other_o if_o the_o concession_n be_v for_o six_o in_o number_n so_o must_v the_o prohibition_n be_v for_o a_o seven_o in_o number_n but_o if_o the_o concession_n be_v of_o six_o in_o order_n than_o it_o be_v the_o seven_o that_o be_v to_o be_v reserve_v and_o if_o the_o seven_o be_v relate_v to_o in_o the_o prohibition_n of_o work_n than_o the_o concession_n must_v look_v to_o the_o first_o six_o day_n which_o it_o do_v not_o as_o we_o have_v show_v and_o therefore_o 3_o see_v the_o six_o day_n concession_n look_v to_o six_o in_o number_n so_o many_o thou_o may_v or_o shall_v work_v together_o and_o no_o more_o the_o prohibition_n must_v also_o respect_v the_o number_n to_o wit_n a_o seven_o and_o not_o the_o psalm_n 118._o be_v very_o considerable_a to_o this_o purpose_n wherein_o there_o be_v 1._o a_o prophecy_n of_o christ_n 2._o oâ—_n a_o day_n which_o god_n have_v singular_o make_v for_o we_o to_o which_o be_v by_o virtue_n of_o a_o command_n but_o by_o this_o command_n no_o other_o day_n can_v be_v admit_v for_o each_o week_n be_v divide_v in_o six_o work_a day_n and_o these_o together_o to_o we_o and_o one_o of_o rest_n and_o that_o to_o god_n now_o by_o change_v it_o to_o the_o first_o god_n get_v one_o and_o we_o six_o and_o that_o together_o but_o if_o the_o day_n be_v the_o second_o three_o four_o etc._n etc._n it_o will_v not_o be_v so_o for_o the_o six_o work_a day_n will_v be_v interrupt_v which_o be_v contrary_a to_o that_o morality_n of_o the_o command_n whereby_o our_o day_n be_v distinguish_v from_o he_o that_o we_o for_o one_o week_n be_v full_o by_o we_o may_v with_o the_o great_a freedom_n give_v god_n he_o the_o three_o way_n we_o take_v to_o prove_v the_o change_n of_o the_o day_n to_o be_v by_o divine_a institution_n be_v this_o if_o by_o the_o practice_n of_o the_o apostle_n who_o be_v guide_v and_o inspire_v by_o the_o spirit_n in_o thing_n belong_v to_o their_o office_n infallible_o this_o day_n be_v observe_v as_o different_a from_o other_o day_n then_o there_o be_v a_o divine_a institution_n of_o and_o warrant_v for_o this_o day_n but_o by_o the_o practice_n of_o the_o apostle_n this_o day_n be_v celebrate_v as_o different_a from_o and_o prefer_v to_o other_o day_n or_o as_o divine_a therefore_o it_o be_v of_o divine_a institution_n if_o the_o divine_a practice_n and_o example_n of_o the_o apostle_n in_o thing_n moral_a and_o common_a to_o all_o do_v not_o either_o suppose_v a_o divine_a antecedent_n institution_n or_o infer_v a_o subsequent_a than_o their_o practice_n and_o example_n which_o in_o these_o thing_n be_v infallible_a and_o unerring_a will_v have_v no_o more_o force_n than_o the_o example_n of_o other_o which_o be_v absurd_a their_o example_n be_v especial_o press_v on_o we_o and_o if_o in_o any_o thing_n their_o example_n be_v divine_a it_o must_v be_v in_o this_o so_o particular_o and_o so_o well_o circumstantiate_v and_o where_o their_o meeting_n be_v not_o record_v to_o have_v be_v on_o any_o other_o second_o three_o etc._n etc._n day_n certain_o their_o practice_n must_v be_v not_o only_o more_o than_o nothing_o but_o very_o significant_a and_o indeed_o in_o positive_a worship_n the_o lord_n have_v be_v please_v to_o be_v more_o spare_v to_o say_v so_o and_o to_o leave_v we_o more_o
