ambition_n and_o vain_a glory_n and_o likewise_o exercise_v and_o improve_v his_o other_o grace_n in_o fine_a his_o enemy_n by_o their_o evil_a tongue_n shall_v beget_v in_o he_o a_o good_a and_o holy_a life_n 16._o §_o four_o let_v there_o be_v never_o so_o many_o plot_n lay_v to_o destroy_v he_o he_o be_v in_o perpetual_a safety_n for_o the_o lord_n not_o only_o give_v his_o angel_n a_o charge_n over_o he_o to_o keep_v he_o in_o all_o his_o way_n but_o himself_o be_v ever_o at_o hand_n to_o deliver_v he_o and_o keep_v he_o as_o the_o apple_n of_o his_o eye_n so_o that_o all_o his_o appearance_n and_o what_o they_o contrive_v to_o be_v the_o mean_n of_o his_o hurt_n turn_v to_o his_o great_a good_a and_o what_o they_o intend_v for_o his_o destruction_n become_v the_o only_a mean_n of_o his_o preservation_n again_o the_o lord_n be_v more_o special_o present_a with_o he_o when_o he_o be_v in_o the_o great_a danger_n that_o he_o may_v fight_v for_o he_o against_o his_o enemy_n and_o give_v he_o victory_n over_o they_o that_o he_o may_v sustain_v he_o when_o he_o faint_v and_o crown_v he_o when_o he_o overcome_v that_o he_o may_v be_v exact_a in_o take_v notice_n of_o his_o suffering_n count_v his_o wander_n put_v his_o tear_n into_o his_o bottle_n and_o enter_v all_o into_o his_o register_n nor_o be_v the_o believer_n more_o patient_a to_o put_v up_o wrong_n than_o god_n be_v ready_a to_o revenge_v they_o and_o right_v he_o and_o the_o reason_n be_v christ_n take_v what_o be_v do_v to_o he_o or_o any_o one_o of_o his_o member_n as_o do_v to_o himself_o and_o indeed_o he_o that_o despise_v traduce_v or_o any_o way_n wrong_v he_o for_o his_o goodness_n his_o envy_n strike_v at_o the_o image_n of_o god_n in_o he_o by_o who_o spirit_n he_o both_o speak_v and_o act_n and_o to_o murmur_v against_o any_o of_o god_n messenger_n as_o thou_o be_v apt_a enough_o to_o do_v be_v to_o murmur_v against_o god_n himself_o that_o send_v they_o take_v notice_n of_o this_o you_o that_o carry_v a_o ache_a tooth_n against_o every_o godly_a man_n you_o know_v neither_o shall_v sorcery_n or_o witchcraft_n have_v the_o least_o power_n to_o do_v he_o hurt_v in_o a_o word_n there_o can_v so_o much_o as_o a_o hair_n fall_v from_o his_o head_n without_o the_o special_a appointment_n of_o his_o heavenly_a father_n who_o will_v suffer_v nothing_o to_o befall_v he_o but_o what_o shall_v make_v for_o his_o servant_n benefit_n and_o his_o own_o glory_n for_o admit_v god_n give_v his_o enemy_n leave_v and_o power_n to_o kill_v he_o he_o shall_v not_o hurt_v but_o pleasure_n he_o as_o i_o shall_v show_v when_o i_o come_v unto_o it_o 17._o §_o five_o neither_o sickness_n nor_o old_a age_n can_v hurt_v he_o his_o finger_n pain_n make_v he_o not_o forget_v the_o health_n of_o his_o whole_a body_n one_o day_n or_o week_n sickness_n make_v he_o not_o forget_v many_o year_n health_n he_o be_v not_o so_o sensible_a of_o a_o present_a distress_n nor_o so_o ingrateful_a for_o favour_n past_a as_o not_o to_o remember_v many_o year_n enjoyment_n more_o than_o one_o week_n misery_n yea_o he_o consider_v that_o it_o be_v in_o great_a love_n that_o god_n thus_o visit_v he_o that_o he_o deal_v merciful_o with_o he_o lest_o he_o shall_v fall_v from_o he_o and_o despair_n that_o he_o beat_v he_o lest_o he_o shall_v grow_v proud_a and_o forget_v he_o and_o so_o perish_v beside_o he_o find_v by_o experience_n that_o as_o every_o other_o affliction_n rub_v off_o some_o rust_n melt_v off_o some_o dross_n strain_n out_o some_o corruption_n etc._n etc._n so_o also_o that_o sickness_n cut_v the_o very_a throat_n of_o all_o his_o vice_n be_v it_o pride_n lust_n covetousness_n or_o the_o like_a for_o the_o very_o worst_a fever_n can_v come_v do_v not_o more_o burn_v up_o his_o blood_n then_o his_o lust_n and_o together_o with_o sweat_v out_o the_o surfeit_n of_o nature_n at_o the_o poares_z of_o the_o body_n he_o weep_v out_o the_o sinful_a corruption_n of_o his_o nature_n at_o the_o poares_z of_o his_o conscience_n and_o indeed_o god_n scourge_v his_o flesh_n to_o this_o end_n only_o that_o his_o spirit_n may_v be_v save_v
