prince_n and_o this_o doctrine_n be_v more_o strict_o enforce_v in_o the_o second_o part_n of_o that_o homily_n from_o the_o example_n of_o king_n david_n in_o his_o carriage_n towards_o saul_n from_o which_o it_o will_v appear_v that_o they_o do_v not_o suppose_v david_n to_o have_v use_v so_o much_o as_o defensive_a arm_n against_o he_o as_o you_o may_v see_v by_o this_o passage_n in_o it_o that_o when_o for_o his_o most_o painful_a true_a and_o faithful_a service_n king_n saul_n yet_o reward_v he_o not_o only_o with_o great_a unkindness_n but_o also_o seek_v his_o destruction_n and_o death_n by_o all_o mean_v possible_a david_n be_v fain_o to_o save_v his_o life_n not_o by_o rebellion_n or_o any_o resistance_n but_o by_o flight_n and_o hide_v himself_o from_o the_o king_n sight_n from_o all_o which_o passage_n out_o of_o the_o homily_n i_o think_v we_o may_v draw_v these_o plain_a conclusion_n 1._o that_o as_o well_o evil_a as_o good_a governor_n be_v to_o be_v obey_v as_o god_n ordinance_n 2._o that_o therefore_o they_o be_v not_o to_o be_v resist_v for_o any_o cause_n though_o they_o abuse_v their_o power_n never_o so_o tyrannical_o 3._o that_o the_o people_n be_v resistance_n and_o aught_o to_o be_v like_o all_o discourse_n of_o this_o nature_n positive_a and_o general_n and_o perhaps_o if_o i_o be_v to_o preach_v a_o sermon_n to_o the_o common_a people_n on_o this_o subject_a it_o shall_v be_v much_o to_o the_o same_o purpose_n and_o yet_o for_o all_o that_o i_o may_v not_o believe_v that_o it_o be_v absolute_o unlawful_a for_o a_o whole_a nation_n to_o defend_v themselves_o in_o case_n of_o such_o extreme_a violence_n or_o oppression_n as_o i_o have_v already_o suppose_v for_o when_o preacher_n speak_v to_o vulgar_a auditor_n they_o be_v not_o bind_v like_o casuist_n to_o tell_v they_o all_o the_o reserve_a case_n in_o which_o they_o may_v be_v dispense_v with_o in_o their_o duty_n lest_o they_o may_v use_v this_o christian_a liberty_n for_o a_o close_v of_o maliciousness_n as_o the_o apostle_n tell_v we_o thus_o if_o a_o good_a preacher_n make_v a_o sermon_n against_o steal_v or_o murder_n he_o may_v very_o just_o tell_v the_o people_n a●_n the_o author_n of_o these_o homily_n do_v that_o they_o ought_v not_o in_o any_o wise_a or_o for_o any_o cause_n to_o commit_v theft_n or_o murder_n without_o tell_v they_o all_o those_o case_n of_o mere_a necessity_n in_o which_o it_o may_v be_v lawful_a to_o make_v use_n of_o the_o good_n of_o another_o and_o also_o to_o commit_v homicide_n as_o when_o a_o man_n be_v force_v to_o take_v victual_n though_o without_o the_o owner_n consent_n for_o mere_a preservation_n of_o life_n or_o to_o kill_v a_o thief_n or_o any_o other_o man_n that_o assault_v he_o to_o save_v his_o own_o life_n so_o though_o the_o author_n of_o these_o book_n of_o homily_n do_v say_v that_o we_o may_v not_o in_o any_o wise_a and_o for_o no_o cause_n withstand_v violent_o or_o resist_v the_o supreme_a intimate_v he_o must_v also_o be_v the_o sole_a supreme_a power_n and_o if_o so_o can_v be_v accountable_a to_o or_o under_o the_o coercion_n of_o any_o superior_a power_n for_o than_o he_o will_v
