for_o than_o thy_o conscience_n will_v accuse_v and_o lay_v to_o thy_o charge_n every_o one_o of_o they_o in_o order_n thou_o have_v set_v my_o misdeed_n before_o i_o and_o my_o secret_a sin_n in_o the_o sight_n of_o thy_o countenance_n say_v david_n again_o in_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n what_o anger_n what_o envy_n what_o malice_n lurk_v therein_o and_o they_o pass_v it_o over_o and_o think_v it_o no_o matter_n well_o know_v belove_v that_o unless_o you_o repent_v of_o the_o very_a thought_n of_o the_o heart_n even_o these_o thing_n will_v be_v find_v write_v in_o the_o book_n at_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n and_o what_o a_o lamentable_a thing_n will_v that_o be_v thought_n 2._o our_o thought_n second_o as_o conscience_n be_v privy_a to_o all_o our_o thought_n and_o will_v accuse_v we_o of_o they_o at_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n so_o all_o our_o speech_n be_v note_v therein_o what_o a_o number_n of_o wicked_a speech_n pass_v out_o of_o the_o mouth_n of_o wicked_a and_o vain_a man_n and_o woman_n what_o horrible_a and_o blasphemous_a oath_n what_o curse_v speak_v lie_a and_o slander_v now_o a_o wicked_a person_n that_o thus_o abuse_v his_o tongue_n so_o many_o thousand_o time_n in_o a_o day_n he_o can_v for_o his_o life_n remember_v they_o well_o know_v that_o every_o sinful_a word_n thou_o speak_v be_v write_v in_o this_o book_n there_o it_o be_v record_v and_o when_o this_o book_n of_o thy_o conscience_n shall_v be_v open_v it_o will_v discover_v all_o thy_o sin_n not_o only_o thy_o filthy_a thought_n but_o every_o wicked_a word_n our_o saviour_n tell_v we_o 12.36_o mat._n 12.36_o that_o we_o must_v give_v a_o account_n of_o every_o wicked_a word_n at_o the_o day_n of_o â—udgement_n for_o though_o man_n labour_v to_o forget_v they_o yet_o they_o be_v write_v in_o their_o conscience_n &_o one_o day_n shall_v come_v to_o judgement_n o_o how_o this_o shall_v awaken_v we_o all_o and_o cause_v we_o to_o look_v unto_o our_o life_n to_o make_v a_o covenant_n with_o our_o eye_n as_o job_n do_v and_o to_o set_v a_o watch_n before_o our_o mouth_n as_o david_n do_v and_o to_o lay_v aside_o our_o vain_a oath_n and_o idle_a mirth_n which_o as_o solomon_n say_v can_v want_v iniquity_n see_v one_o day_n they_o must_v all_o of_o they_o come_v to_o judgement_n work_n 3_o our_o work_n three_o if_o we_o come_v unto_o the_o life_n of_o man_n and_o woman_n why_o alas_o they_o be_v nothing_o almost_o but_o a_o continual_a practice_n of_o sin_n as_o the_o sin_n of_o man_n life_n they_o be_v innumerable_a even_o as_o the_o sand_n on_o the_o sea_n and_o work_n let_v we_o come_v to_o see_v what_o use_n we_o be_v to_o make_v of_o this_o doctrine_n first_o hence_o first_o of_o all_o we_o may_v observe_v the_o endless_a love_n and_o mercy_n of_o our_o god_n towards_o we_o foretell_v every_o use_n 1_o one_o of_o we_o now_o of_o the_o open_n of_o these_o book_n that_o our_o conscience_n shall_v be_v lay_v open_a these_o book_n unclasp_v and_o all_o our_o thought_n word_n and_o work_n must_v come_v to_o judgement_n sure_o it_o be_v to_o this_o end_n and_o purpose_n that_o we_o may_v prevent_v the_o danger_n that_o be_v to_o come_v and_o labour_n to_o keep_v a_o good_a conscience_n wash_v and_o purge_v in_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n that_o it_o may_v not_o lay_v to_o our_o charge_n any_o one_o sin_n but_o assure_v we_o that_o we_o be_v in_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n use_v 2_o second_o we_o see_v here_o that_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o for_o a_o man_n or_o a_o woman_n to_o abstain_v from_o evil_a word_n and_o work_n but_o evil_a thought_n likewise_o the_o very_a lust_n of_o the_o heart_n paul_n complain_v of_o this_o 7._o rom._n 7._o and_o peter_n bid_v simon_n magus_n to_o repent_v and_o pray_v 8._o act_n 8._o if_o perhaps_o the_o thought_n of_o his_o heart_n may_v be_v pardon_v i_o doubt_v not_o but_o the_o child_n of_o god_n be_v careful_a over_o their_o very_a thought_n for_o a_o wicked_a carnal_a man_n may_v abstain_v from_o some_o grievous_a sin_n but_o it_o be_v a_o note_n of_o the_o true_a child_n of_o god_n to_o repent_v of_o his_o evil_a thought_n and_o to_o be_v careful_a over_o they_o three_o see_v every_o man_n use_v 3_o conscience_n be_v this_o book_n and_o every_o man_n sin_n be_v pen_v down_o therein_o we_o may_v see_v the_o woeful_a misery_n of_o all_o those_o that_o have_v defile_v conscience_n filthy_a and_o unclean_a heart_n for_o look_v how_o their_o conscience_n do_v accuse_v they_o even_o so_o will_v god_n condemn_v and_o have_v not_o repent_v of_o their_o sin_n they_o carry_v a_o tormentor_n within_o they_o namely_o a_o guilty_a and_o a_o accuse_a conscience_n which_o be_v their_o judge_n to_o condemn_v they_o and_o their_o hell_n to_o torment_v they_o use_v 4_o four_o see_v the_o book_n must_v be_v open_v and_o every_o man_n conscience_n must_v come_v to_o scan_v because_o sentence_n shall_v pass_v and_o judgement_n shall_v be_v award_v accord_v to_o the_o thing_n write_v in_o every_o man_n conscience_n how_o shall_v this_o cause_v we_o all_o both_o minister_n and_o people_n to_o labour_v to_o get_v a_o good_a conscience_n if_o thy_o conscience_n be_v good_a thou_o shall_v not_o fail_v to_o be_v bless_v if_o thy_o conscience_n be_v filthy_a and_o pollute_a thou_o be_v accurse_v conscience_n the_o mean_a to_o get_v a_o good_a conscience_n and_o therefore_o it_o shall_v be_v our_o chief_a care_n our_o chief_a study_n and_o our_o chief_a desire_n all_o our_o life_n time_n to_o keep_v a_o good_a conscience_n now_o if_o you_o ask_v how_o be_v it_o possible_a to_o get_v a_o good_a conscience_n i_o answer_v for_o the_o get_n and_o keep_v of_o faith_n and_o a_o good_a conscience_n we_o must_v know_v that_o it_o be_v do_v by_o the_o use_n of_o know_v the_o heavy_a curse_n of_o god_n even_o for_o sin_n that_o the_o reward_n of_o sin_n be_v death_n eternal_a both_o of_o body_n and_o soul_n for_o man_n do_v by_o nature_n bless_v themselves_o in_o their_o sin_n and_o though_o we_o hear_v of_o god_n judgement_n against_o sin_n yet_o who_o heart_n be_v touch_v and_o trouble_v thus_o man_n run_v on_o still_o in_o sin_n and_o fear_v nothing_o they_o mean_v well_o they_o say_v but_o yet_o live_v ill_a and_o think_v all_o be_v well_o three_o till_o we_o see_v what_o sin_n be_v and_o then_o see_v the_o curse_n of_o god_n due_a to_o sin_n we_o shall_v never_o serious_o try_v our_o conscience_n and_o see_v how_o our_o sin_n have_v wound_v they_o that_o so_o we_o may_v repent_v we_o of_o sin_n four_o we_o must_v be_v grieve_v for_o our_o sin_n we_o must_v acknowledge_v and_o confess_v they_o beg_v for_o pardon_n of_o they_o and_o to_o hunger_n and_o thirst_n after_o christ_n jesus_n for_o there_o be_v nothing_o that_o can_v purify_v the_o conscience_n and_o quiet_a the_o heart_n but_o only_o the_o blood_n of_o jesus_n christ_n apply_v to_o our_o soul_n by_o faith_n with_o persuasion_n of_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o they_o mark_v here_o then_o belove_v when_o a_o man_n be_v thus_o humble_v for_o his_o sin_n and_o beg_v the_o pardon_n of_o they_o earnest_o with_o sigh_n and_o groan_n then_o will_v the_o lord_n send_v down_o into_o his_o soul_n his_o bless_a spirit_n to_o assure_v we_o of_o god_n mercy_n of_o the_o pardon_n of_o our_o sin_n that_o our_o wound_n in_o conscience_n be_v heal_v and_o this_o be_v do_v by_o see_v their_o sin_n and_o oftentimes_o their_o conscience_n check_v they_o for_o sin_n yet_o how_o few_o do_v bewail_v their_o sin_n for_o i_o be_o persuade_v that_o there_o be_v not_o so_o wicked_a a_o sinner_n but_o sometime_o his_o conscience_n check_n he_o indeed_o man_n see_v not_o the_o danger_n and_o feel_v not_o the_o wound_n of_o conscience_n because_o now_o their_o book_n be_v clasp_v they_o be_v shut_v up_o their_o sear_a conscience_n be_v now_o asleep_a but_o the_o day_n will_v come_v that_o their_o book_n must_v be_v open_v and_o their_o secret_n declare_v and_o then_o conscience_n will_v accuse_v they_o condemn_v and_o torment_v they_o again_o when_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n have_v get_v a_o good_a conscience_n so_o as_o be_v true_o humble_v for_o their_o sin_n and_o beg_a pardon_n they_o find_v some_o assurance_n of_o god_n love_n in_o christ_n and_o that_o now_o their_o conscience_n do_v not_o accuse_v they_o even_o than_o must_v man_n take_v no_o less_o pain_n to_o keep_v and_o preserve_v a_o good_a conscience_n to_o do_v nothing_o to_o wound_v thy_o conscience_n a_o man_n conscience_n be_v a_o very_a tender_a thing_n pure_a the_o mean_n to_o keep_v our_o conscience_n pure_a it_o be_v like_o the_o apple_n of_o the_o eye_n if_o it_o be_v prick_v but_o with_o a_o pin_n it_o will_v not_o only_o blemish_v the_o eye_n but_o endanger_v the_o sight_n so_o conscience_n it_o be_v a_o tender_a thing_n if_o you_o prick_v it_o by_o sin_n it_o will_v blemish_v thy_o conscience_n wound_v it_o and_o even_o make_v havoc_n of_o thy_o soul_n and_o therefore_o say_v solomon_n counterguard_n thy_o heart_n &_o watch_v over_o thy_o soul_n proverb_n 4.14_o that_o thou_o do_v nothing_o that_o may_v wound_v thy_o conscience_n now_o that_o we_o may_v keep_v these_o book_n of_o account_n our_o conscience_n pure_a and_o good_a we_o must_v do_v two_o thing_n first_o avoid_z all_o thing_n that_o may_v any_o way_n hurt_v a_o good_a conscience_n second_o use_v all_o good_a mean_n and_o help_v to_o cherish_v a_o good_a conscience_n in_o truth_n all_o sin_n hinder_v a_o good_a conscience_n sin_n be_v that_o which_o wound_v the_o soul_n and_o make_v havoc_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n that_o be_v the_o very_a cutthroat_n of_o man_n soul_n and_o therefore_o if_o you_o will_v keep_v a_o good_a conscience_n take_v heed_n of_o sin_n which_o wound_v a_o good_a conscience_n and_o make_v it_o unable_a to_o stand_v before_o god_n at_o the_o last_o day_n but_o there_o be_v two_o especial_a let_n and_o impediment_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n first_o ignorance_n of_o the_o law_n and_o the_o word_n of_o god_n for_o when_o a_o man_n know_v not_o what_o be_v sin_n and_o what_o not_o how_o can_v he_o take_v heed_n lest_o he_o wound_v his_o soul_n and_o therefore_o we_o see_v let_v a_o man_n come_v into_o his_o house_n at_o midnight_n he_o can_v see_v nothing_o amiss_o and_o out_o of_o order_n but_o let_v a_o man_n come_v in_o at_o noon_n than_o he_o can_v espy_v the_o least_o disorder_n even_o so_o poor_a blind_a ignorant_a soul_n not_o know_v the_o law_n of_o god_n can_v see_v any_o wound_n in_o conscience_n nor_o nothing_o amiss_o in_o they_o but_o let_v they_o come_v to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o look_v in_o this_o glass_n than_o they_o shall_v find_v themselves_o much_o out_o of_o order_n to_o have_v wound_v soul_n and_o defile_v conscience_n the_o other_o impediment_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n be_v worldly_a lust_n namely_o the_o love_n and_o exceed_a desire_n of_o riches_n honour_n pleasure_n etc._n etc._n and_o he_o that_o suffer_v these_o desire_n to_o have_v place_n in_o his_o heart_n he_o can_v possible_o keep_v a_o good_a conscience_n second_o the_o mean_n to_o preserve_v and_o to_o keep_v a_o good_a conscience_n be_v three_o first_o to_o do_v all_o thing_n that_o may_v save_v and_o cherish_v true_a save_v faith_n whereby_o our_o soul_n be_v assure_v of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n jesu_n for_o the_o pardon_n of_o our_o sin_n for_o faith_n be_v the_o root_n and_o the_o foundation_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n and_o without_o faith_n there_o can_v be_v no_o good_a conscience_n 10._o rom._n 10._o now_o to_o preserve_v faith_n we_o must_v often_o hear_v and_o read_v the_o word_n of_o god_n repent_v of_o our_o sin_n acknowledge_v and_o confess_v they_o and_o be_v humble_v for_o they_o and_o walk_v in_o the_o duty_n of_o faith_n and_o repentance_n and_o in_o so_o do_v we_o shall_v find_v more_o and_o more_o the_o comfort_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n and_o therefore_o as_o always_o in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n and_o this_o will_v make_v we_o keep_v a_o good_a conscience_n and_o the_o want_n of_o this_o make_v man_n bold_a to_o sin_n because_o they_o consider_v not_o that_o god_n see_v they_o and_o that_o they_o have_v a_o conscience_n within_o they_o and_o another_o book_n be_v open_v which_o be_v the_o book_n of_o life_n thus_o when_o christ_n have_v examine_v the_o book_n of_o man_n conscience_n to_o view_v what_o be_v therein_o write_v that_o judgement_n may_v be_v award_v thereafter_o now_o he_o show_v that_o he_o will_v open_v a_o second_o be_v the_o book_n of_o life_n and_o the_o dead_a be_v judge_v of_o those_o thing_n which_o be_v write_v in_o the_o book_n according_a to_o their_o work_n we_o have_v hear_v already_o the_o person_n of_o the_o judge_n describe_v unto_o we_o with_o what_o unspeakable_a majesty_n and_o glory_n he_o shall_v come_v to_o the_o great_a comfort_n of_o the_o godly_a and_o also_o with_o what_o wonderful_a terror_n he_o will_v come_v to_o the_o great_a terror_n of_o the_o wicked_a second_o we_o have_v here_o who_o shall_v be_v cite_v to_o appear_v both_o great_a and_o small_a 1.8_o 1._o thes_n 1.8_o all_o must_v appear_v now_o follow_v in_o the_o three_o place_n the_o most_o special_a and_o principal_a matter_n of_o all_o namely_o after_o what_o manner_n all_o man_n shall_v be_v judge_v in_o these_o word_n and_o the_o book_n were-opened_n etc._n etc._n we_o see_v that_o earthly_a judge_n be_v bring_v unto_o the_o bench_n with_o great_a attendance_n they_o be_v set_v the_o prisoner_n be_v bring_v forth_o and_o be_v call_v over_o one_o by_o one_o and_o their_o matter_n be_v hear_v and_o witness_n produce_v and_o so_o according_a to_o their_o fault_n they_o receive_v judgement_n even_o so_o at_o this_o great_a day_n of_o the_o lord_n christ_n jesus_n shall_v come_v with_o a_o thousand_o of_o angel_n and_o before_o he_o shall_v stand_v all_o man_n and_o woman_n both_o great_a and_o small_a and_o then_o shall_v the_o book_n be_v bring_v forth_o indeed_o we_o see_v when_o a_o earthly_a judge_n sit_v on_o the_o bench_n it_o hold_v a_o long_a time_n to_o try_v cause_n such_o witness_n and_o such_o evidence_n must_v be_v produce_v but_o it_o shall_v not_o be_v so_o at_o the_o last_o day_n for_o when_o all_o man_n shall_v stand_v at_o the_o bar_n of_o christ_n judgement_n now_o if_o you_o will_v know_v what_o these_o book_n be_v it_o be_v easy_a to_o know_v for_o they_o be_v even_o the_o particular_a conscience_n of_o every_o man_n and_o woman_n thy_o conscience_n be_v the_o book_n that_o shall_v be_v open_v and_o that_o shall_v be_v as_o good_a as_o ten_o thousand_o witness_n either_o to_o excuse_v or_o accuse_v thou_o before_o god_n for_o there_o shall_v need_v no_o other_o witness_n no_o other_o evidence_n against_o we_o at_o the_o last_o but_o our_o own_o conscience_n for_o as_o god_n have_v his_o book_n of_o infinite_a knowledge_n whereby_o he_o know_v the_o sin_n of_o all_o man_n and_o woman_n as_o certain_o as_o if_o they_o be_v write_v in_o a_o book_n and_o though_o man_n forget_v they_o yet_o the_o lord_n remember_v they_o so_o he_o have_v give_v unto_o every_o man_n and_o woman_n a_o book_n their_o own_o conscience_n wherein_o be_v write_v all_o our_o thought_n word_n and_o deed_n so_o as_o none_o shall_v escape_v and_o the_o book_n be_v two_o the_o book_n of_o the_o law_n and_o the_o book_n of_o conscience_n the_o one_o show_v a_o man_n what_o he_o shall_v do_v the_o other_o what_o he_o have_v do_v against_o the_o book_n of_o the_o law_n none_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o except_v for_o the_o commandment_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v pure_a and_o righteous_a altogether_o 19.9_o psal_n 19.9_o and_o as_o for_o the_o book_n of_o conscience_n who_o can_v deny_v it_o or_o except_v against_o it_o see_v the_o lord_n will_v now_o judge_v a_o man_n not_o by_o another_o man_n conscience_n but_o by_o his_o own_o the_o which_o he_o have_v always_o have_v in_o his_o own_o keep_n even_o in_o his_o own_o bosom_n now_o see_v here_o what_o be_v mean_v by_o these_o book_n namely_o every_o man_n particular_a conscience_n let_v we_o close_a but_o it_o be_v here_o record_v second_o every_o speech_n and_o word_n of_o our_o mouth_n three_o every_o deed_n that_o man_n do_v thou_o have_v seal_v up_o all_o our_o sin_n in_o a_o bag_n say_v job_n to_o show_v the_o exact_a kind_n of_o keep_v of_o they_o against_o that_o day_n of_o account_n sure_o if_o there_o be_v any_o thing_n in_o a_o man_n to_o be_v marvel_v at_o i_o must_v needs_o confess_v that_o this_o be_v a_o wonderful_a work_n of_o god_n that_o he_o have_v give_v to_o every_o man_n and_o woman_n a_o conscience_n which_o be_v like_a unto_o a_o book_n in_o which_o be_v record_v all_o our_o thought_n word_n and_o work_n a_o wicked_a man_n a_o unchaste_a woman_n how_o many_o thousand_o vile_a &_o filthy_a thought_n have_v they_o in_o their_o mind_n night_n and_o day_n their_o heart_n burn_v in_o lust_n and_o in_o uncleanness_n now_o they_o pass_v away_o to_o they_o they_o regard_v they_o not_o they_o make_v little_a or_o no_o account_n of_o they_o but_o alas_o they_o be_v all_o write_v in_o this_o book_n of_o thy_o conscience_n thy_o conscience_n mark_n they_o thy_o conscience_n write_v they_o down_o and_o if_o thou_o repent_v not_o of_o they_o and_o leave_v they_o o_o woe_n to_o thy_o soul_n when_o these_o book_n come_v to_o be_v open_v and_o read_v over_o

have_v hear_v before_o that_o he_o see_v all_o both_o great_a and_o small_a stand_v before_o god_n none_o shall_v be_v want_v or_o absent_v themselves_o now_o it_o may_v be_v wonder_v how_o this_o great_a judge_n shall_v once_o sit_v upon_o the_o throne_n of_o his_o glory_n attend_v by_o his_o holy_a angel_n then_o shall_v the_o book_n of_o every_o man_n conscience_n be_v open_v and_o then_o they_o shall_v afresh_o call_v to_o mind_v all_o their_o sin_n in_o these_o word_n we_o be_v to_o observe_v three_o special_a point_n text._n part_n of_o the_o text._n first_o who_o they_o be_v that_o must_v come_v to_o this_o judgement_n namely_o the_o dead_a even_o they_o which_o have_v lie_v many_o thousand_o year_n rot_v in_o the_o grave_n second_o the_o mean_n whereby_o they_o must_v be_v try_v even_o by_o those_o thing_n which_o be_v write_v and_o record_v in_o their_o book_n three_o the_o touchstone_n of_o this_o trial_n namely_o the_o write_a word_n of_o god_n and_o first_o of_o the_o person_n it_o be_v not_o to_o be_v doubt_v but_o that_o saint_n john_n mean_v that_o all_o must_v come_v to_o judgement_n both_o great_a and_o small_a must_v stand_v before_o god_n but_o why_o do_v he_o say_v here_o and_o the_o dead_a shall_v be_v judge_v it_o be_v to_o be_v observe_v that_o he_o name_v so_o express_o the_o dead_a even_o those_o which_o have_v lyen_fw-we rot_v so_o many_o thousand_o year_n must_v come_v to_o judgement_n they_o must_v be_v call_v to_o account_v yea_o their_o old_a sin_n must_v be_v now_o bring_v to_o light_n for_o this_o be_v rhe_n wicked_a thought_n of_o many_o carnal_a man_n that_o when_o a_o man_n be_v dead_a he_o be_v well_o then_o all_o his_o sin_n die_v with_o he_o he_o be_v forget_v and_o his_o sin_n be_v not_o speak_v of_o but_o saint_n john_n say_v here_o that_o even_o the_o dead_a must_v come_v to_o judgement_n even_o their_o old_a sin_n must_v come_v to_o light_n and_o they_o must_v answer_v for_o they_o it_o be_v nigh_o six_o thousand_o year_n since_o cain_n slay_v his_o brother_n yet_o this_o sin_n of_o he_o be_v not_o forget_v though_o cain_n be_v dead_a so_o long_o since_o yet_o his_o sin_n be_v not_o dead_a no_o no_o cain_n one_o day_n shall_v come_v to_o account_v for_o his_o sin_n judas_n he_o do_v for_o vile_a lucre_n sell_v his_o master_n many_o hundred_o of_o year_n ago_o he_o be_v dead_a and_o go_v but_o at_o this_o day_n he_o shall_v be_v call_v to_o account_v so_o in_o our_o day_n many_o man_n think_v when_o they_o die_v their_o sin_n shall_v never_o be_v bring_v to_o light_v the_o usurer_n he_o get_v his_o good_n by_o wicked_a and_o ungodly_a mean_n he_o grow_v in_o wealth_n when_o he_o die_v he_o think_v he_o shall_v never_o hear_v of_o this_o sin_n again_o so_o the_o drunkard_n swearer_n profaner_n of_o the_o lord_n sabbath_n etc._n etc._n they_o be_v persuade_v that_o death_n will_v end_v all_o their_o misery_n ah_o poor_a soul_n it_o be_v well_o with_o they_o indeed_o if_o death_n may_v end_v their_o woeful_a misery_n but_o alas_o alas_o death_n be_v even_o as_o a_o wide_a gate_n to_o let_v they_o have_v some_o passage_n to_o endless_a woe_n and_o misery_n for_o when_o they_o be_v dead_a and_o bury_v their_o sin_n do_v not_o die_v with_o they_o their_o misery_n be_v not_o then_o end_v o_o no_o then_o begin_v their_o endless_a misery_n &_o torment_n oh_o it_o be_v good_a they_o may_v have_v no_o more_o be_v after_o death_n it_o have_v be_v good_a for_o such_o man_n they_o have_v never_o be_v bear_v or_o be_v bear_v that_o they_o have_v be_v make_v rather_o a_o toad_n or_o a_o serpent_n for_o in_o death_n they_o have_v a_o end_n but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o a_o filthy_a and_o and_z ungodly_a sinner_n for_o when_o he_o be_v dead_a and_o bury_v even_o than_o begin_v his_o great_a woe_n and_o misery_n for_o even_o the_o sinner_n that_o be_v dead_a a_o many_o thousand_o year_n must_v for_o all_o this_o come_v to_o judgement_n and_o therefore_o thou_o that_o live_v in_o sin_n in_o adultery_n etc._n etc._n remember_v that_o although_o thou_o die_v yet_o thy_o sin_n do_v not_o die_v with_o thou_o no_o no_o both_o thou_o and_o they_o must_v one_o day_n come_v to_o judgement_n thy_o old_a sin_n and_o those_o which_o thou_o have_v commit_v in_o secret_a they_o must_v come_v now_o to_o light_n see_v that_o the_o dead_a must_v come_v to_o judgement_n use_v that_o have_v lie_v a_o many_o hundred_o year_n in_o the_o grave_n and_o then_o their_o old_a sin_n and_o secret_a sin_n must_v come_v to_o light_v oh_o let_v we_o then_o watch_v over_o our_o life_n and_o have_v this_o still_o in_o our_o mind_n well_o though_o i_o die_v and_o rot_v in_o the_o grave_n yet_o my_o sin_n shall_v not_o die_v my_o evil_a way_n can_v be_v bury_v they_o must_v come_v to_o light_n that_o so_o we_o may_v never_o dare_v to_o sin_n think_v as_o many_o do_v that_o when_o they_o be_v once_o dead_a they_o shall_v never_o come_v to_o account_v for_o their_o sin_n but_o saint_n john_n say_v here_o that_o the_o dead_a be_v judge_v even_o those_o who_o we_o forget_v and_o who_o sin_n we_o will_v think_v will_v never_o be_v call_v to_o account_v even_o they_o must_v come_v to_o a_o reckon_n in_o the_o next_o place_n saint_n john_n tell_v we_o how_o all_o man_n shall_v be_v try_v and_o according_a to_o what_o sentence_n shall_v be_v award_v namely_o according_a to_o those_o thing_n write_v in_o their_o book_n here_o be_v the_o evidence_n here_o be_v no_o witness_n to_o be_v produce_v for_o a_o man_n conscience_n shall_v be_v even_o as_o good_a as_o a_o thousand_o witness_n now_o what_o be_v here_o mean_v by_o the_o book_n you_o have_v hear_v already_o namely_o the_o particular_a conscience_n of_o every_o man_n and_o woman_n thy_o conscience_n be_v the_o book_n that_o be_v the_o evidence_n no_o other_o witness_n shall_v be_v produce_v but_o even_o thy_o own_o conscience_n again_o the_o thing_n which_o be_v write_v in_o these_o book_n i_o tell_v you_o they_o be_v all_o our_o thought_n word_n and_o work_n not_o only_o our_o gross_a sin_n as_o murder_v etc._n etc._n but_o in_o our_o book_n be_v record_v even_o our_o idle_a and_o vain_a word_n every_o vile_a and_o filthy_a thought_n and_o by_o these_o sentence_n must_v proceed_v and_o according_a to_o these_o must_v judgement_n be_v award_v now_o then_o those_o which_o have_v good_a thought_n yea_o and_o holy_a thing_n write_v in_o their_o book_n they_o be_v bless_v and_o happy_a for_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v ashamed_a nay_o they_o shall_v be_v glad_a to_o have_v their_o book_n lay_v open_a that_o their_o repentance_n their_o faith_n love_n zeal_n and_o patience_n etc._n etc._n may_v be_v know_v and_o come_v to_o light_v but_o woe_n then_o to_o all_o filthy_a by_o the_o thing_n write_v in_o our_o book_n in_o our_o conscience_n we_o must_v be_v arraign_v and_o see_v in_o our_o book_n be_v record_v all_o that_o we_o do_v all_o our_o word_n thought_n and_o deed_n first_o it_o must_v teach_v we_o above_o all_o thing_n to_o look_v to_o our_o book_n our_o conscience_n to_o keep_v they_o very_o fair_a and_o clean_o that_o our_o book_n of_o account_n be_v in_o a_o readiness_n for_o our_o conscience_n shall_v either_o excuse_v or_o accuse_v we_o at_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n 24._o act_n 24._o this_o be_v the_o care_n of_o the_o bless_a apostle_n it_o ought_v to_o persuade_v we_o all_o above_o all_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n to_o look_v unto_o this_o to_o keep_v our_o book_n fair_a for_o if_o our_o conscience_n do_v accuse_v we_o god_n be_v great_a than_o our_o conscience_n and_o do_v know_v all_o thing_n second_o see_v sentence_n must_v pass_v according_a unto_o the_o thing_n write_v in_o our_o book_n and_o these_o be_v not_o only_o the_o gross_a sin_n of_o the_o world_n themselves_o but_o even_o the_o vile_a and_o unclean_a thought_n of_o our_o heart_n even_o these_o must_v come_v to_o judgement_n then_o let_v we_o all_o be_v careful_a to_o avoid_v not_o only_o the_o outward_a action_n themselves_o but_o even_o these_o unclean_a thought_n of_o we_o for_o even_o they_o must_v come_v unto_o judgement_n alas_o man_n think_v thought_n be_v free_a that_o they_o shall_v never_o be_v arraign_v for_o their_o vile_a and_o ungodly_a thought_n but_o s._n paul_n say_v 2.1_o rom._n 2.1_o thought_n shall_v either_o excuse_v or_o the_o word_n of_o god_n christ_n do_v promise_v thou_o of_o his_o truth_n he_o will_v not_o let_v thou_o loose_v thy_o reward_n true_a it_o be_v a_o cup_n of_o cold_a water_n be_v a_o mean_a gift_n and_o far_o from_o merit_n yet_o christ_n say_v very_o of_o my_o truth_n thou_o shall_v not_o loose_v thy_o reward_n 10._o math._n 10._o o_o how_o shall_v this_o persuade_v all_o of_o we_o to_o labour_v to_o abound_v in_o all_o holy_a duty_n to_o be_v liberal_a and_o bountiful_a unto_o the_o poor_a member_n of_o christ_n jesus_n see_v our_o good_a work_n though_o they_o can_v merit_v yet_o they_o shall_v be_v reward_v they_o shall_v not_o be_v forget_v in_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n they_o be_v sweet_a and_o bless_a companion_n when_o all_o our_o friend_n can_v do_v we_o no_o good_a they_o will_v bring_v endless_a peace_n and_o comfort_n to_o our_o soul_n again_o it_o ought_v to_o terrify_v we_o all_o from_o sin_n from_o evil_a work_n and_o ungodly_a way_n from_o swear_v drunkenness_n uncleanenes_n and_o every_o evil_a way_n for_o if_o we_o be_v full_a of_o these_o and_o these_o be_v find_v write_v in_o our_o book_n o_o then_o woe_n unto_o we_o when_o these_o book_n shall_v come_v to_o be_v open_v for_o than_o nothing_o but_o death_n hell_n and_o damnation_n belong_v unto_o us._n here_o we_o see_v that_o of_o all_o wee_a doctr._n 2_o have_v and_o enjoy_v in_o this_o world_n what_o shall_v go_v with_o we_o when_o we_o die_v what_o shall_v accompany_v thou_o in_o the_o grave_n nay_o at_o the_o terrible_a day_n of_o judgement_n our_o conscience_n our_o work_n will_v come_v a_o day_n wherein_o there_o shall_v be_v justice_n and_o true_a judgement_n do_v unto_o they_o here_o thy_o cause_n shall_v be_v hear_v it_o shall_v be_v right_v for_o christ_n jesus_n upon_o this_o examination_n sing_v the_o doleful_a tune_n i_o be_o a_o damn_a sinner_n i_o know_v not_o what_o will_v become_v of_o my_o poor_a soul_n at_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n and_o therefore_o that_o we_o may_v in_o some_o measure_n try_v ourselves_o and_o judge_v whether_o we_o be_v in_o this_o book_n and_o so_o shall_v be_v save_v let_v we_o search_v out_o of_o the_o holy_a word_n of_o god_n some_o certain_a mark_n of_o god_n child_n the_o first_o mark_n whereby_o we_o may_v know_v whether_o we_o be_v elect_v or_o not_o be_v the_o inward_a testimony_n and_o witness_n of_o god_n spirit_n 8.15_o rom._n 8.15_o you_o have_v not_o receive_v the_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n to_o fear_v again_o but_o you_o have_v etc._n etc._n whereby_o saint_n paul_n tell_v we_o that_o wicked_a and_o ungodly_a sinner_n which_o have_v not_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n to_o guide_v they_o but_o live_v in_o sin_n they_o have_v only_o the_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n they_o have_v no_o true_a peace_n in_o their_o soul_n but_o they_o that_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n have_v the_o spirit_n of_o adoption_n who_o seal_v unto_o our_o heart_n the_o assurance_n of_o our_o adoption_n and_o election_n and_o do_v make_v it_o know_v unto_o we_o that_o we_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n for_o his_o spirit_n do_v witness_n to_o our_o spirit_n that_o we_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n roman_n 8.16_o and_o that_o no_o man_n may_v deceive_v himself_o and_o think_v he_o have_v the_o testimony_n of_o god_n spirit_n when_o he_o have_v it_o not_o saint_n paul_n give_v we_o two_o most_o excellent_a note_n to_o know_v whether_o we_o have_v the_o testimony_n of_o god_n spirit_n yea_o or_o not_o it_o make_v we_o cry_v abba_n father_n where_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n do_v witness_n to_o any_o man_n soul_n that_o he_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n it_o will_v make_v he_o cry_v to_o god_n and_o even_o fill_v heaven_n and_o earth_n with_o cry_v and_o tear_n with_o sob_n and_o sigh_n for_o the_o pardon_n of_o his_o sin_n and_o he_o which_o have_v not_o this_o in_o he_o that_o he_o can_v cry_v unto_o god_n for_o pardon_n of_o his_o sin_n this_o man_n can_v not_o true_o assure_v himself_o that_o he_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n and_o though_o man_n say_v they_o hope_v to_o be_v save_v yet_o alas_o they_o seldom_o or_o never_o pray_v unto_o god_n for_o the_o pardon_n of_o their_o sin_n second_o if_o we_o find_v the_o testimony_n of_o god_n spirit_n that_o we_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n it_o will_v make_v we_o not_o only_o to_o be_v earnest_n with_o god_n for_o pardon_n of_o our_o sin_n but_o it_o will_v make_v we_o cry_v abba_n father_n that_o be_v it_o will_v make_v we_o bear_v the_o tender_a affection_n of_o a_o dutiful_a child_n so_o as_o we_o shall_v be_v afraid_a to_o offend_v so_o love_v a_o father_n and_o therefore_o all_o those_o which_o delight_n in_o sin_n and_o be_v not_o afraid_a to_o offend_v god_n sure_o they_o can_v find_v no_o assurance_n that_o they_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o if_o you_o desire_v to_o be_v assure_v that_o the_o name_n be_v in_o this_o book_n labour_v to_o find_v this_o testimony_n of_o god_n spirit_n to_o witness_v unto_o your_o soul_n that_o you_o belong_v unto_o god_n and_o labour_n to_o be_v earnest_a in_o prayer_n unto_o god_n for_o that_o be_v a_o special_a work_n of_o god_n spirit_n 2.12_o 1._o cor._n 2.12_o the_o second_o mean_n whereby_o we_o may_v know_v whether_o our_o name_n be_v write_v in_o the_o book_n of_o life_n be_v by_o the_o word_n of_o god._n for_o the_o word_n of_o god_n tell_v we_o whosoever_o believe_v in_o christ_n jesu_n shall_v be_v save_v but_o the_o child_n of_o god_n hear_v this_o promise_n open_v and_o apply_v by_o the_o ministry_n of_o god_n word_n be_v able_a to_o say_v i_o believe_v and_o be_o able_a to_o apply_v this_o promise_n to_o myself_o for_o no_o man_n have_v faith_n but_o he_o know_v that_o he_o have_v it_o and_o therefore_o can_v say_v see_v i_o believe_v with_o all_o my_o heart_n sure_o i_o know_v i_o shall_v be_v save_v three_o beside_o the_o bless_a testimony_n of_o god_n spirit_n which_o can_v deceive_v and_o the_o witness_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n we_o may_v know_v our_o election_n by_o the_o fruit_n and_o effect_n thereof_o as_o we_o say_v a_o man_n be_v alive_a so_o long_o as_o we_o see_v he_o breathe_v and_o can_v judge_v of_o the_o tree_n by_o the_o fruit_n even_o so_o by_o the_o effect_n of_o election_n we_o may_v know_v whether_o our_o name_n be_v in_o the_o book_n of_o life_n or_o not_o now_o the_o fruit_n of_o election_n be_v set_v down_o by_o the_o holie-ghost_n that_o all_o man_n may_v be_v able_a to_o examine_v and_o try_v themselves_o and_o know_v whether_o they_o be_v ordain_v to_o life_n or_o not_o who_o god_n predestinate_v 8.30_o rom._n 8.30_o they_o also_o he_o call_v and_o who_o he_o call_v they_o also_o he_o justify_v and_o who_o he_o justify_v they_o also_o he_o glorify_v where_o we_o may_v behold_v the_o mark_n of_o our_o election_n for_o all_o that_o be_v elect_v to_o life_n eternal_a and_o be_v write_v in_o this_o book_n they_o be_v first_o call_v second_o justify_v and_o three_o sanctify_v so_o then_o if_o you_o will_v know_v whether_o you_o be_v elect_v to_o life_n look_v to_o these_o three_o effect_n of_o election_n be_v thou_o call_v be_v thou_o justify_v be_v thou_o sanctify_v then_o sure_o thou_o be_v elect_v but_o if_o thou_o have_v not_o these_o three_o then_o can_v thou_o not_o assure_v thyself_o of_o thy_o salvation_n so_o then_o the_o first_o fruit_n of_o our_o election_n be_v our_o effectual_a call_v when_o as_o god_n do_v by_o the_o preach_a of_o the_o gospel_n call_v we_o out_o of_o the_o world_n from_o our_o old_a sin_n to_o be_v of_o the_o number_n of_o his_o people_n to_o live_v as_o his_o child_n again_o when_o a_o man_n come_v to_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o word_n to_o see_v his_o sin_n and_o god_n anger_n for_o they_o dislike_v they_o be_v grieve_v for_o they_o bewail_v they_o and_o beg_v the_o pardon_n for_o they_o and_o begin_v to_o become_v a_o new_a man_n to_o believe_v in_o christ_n jesu_n to_o seek_v after_o god_n kingdom_n he_o which_o find_v this_o effectual_a call_n in_o he_o he_o may_v assure_v his_o soul_n that_o he_o be_v predestinate_v to_o eternal_a life_n but_o we_o must_v take_v heed_n that_o we_o deceive_v not_o ourselves_o with_o a_o outward_a call_n for_o our_o saviour_n say_v 22._o mat._n 22._o many_o be_v call_v but_o few_o be_v choose_v many_o do_v hear_v the_o word_n of_o god_n with_o the_o ear_n but_o we_o must_v labour_v to_o find_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n to_o preach_v unto_o our_o soul_n to_o apply_v the_o word_n to_o our_o conscience_n to_o believe_v it_o and_o to_o obey_v it_o and_o therefore_o they_o which_o live_v in_o their_o old_a sin_n as_o blind_a ignorant_a and_o profane_a as_o ever_o before_o alas_o how_o can_v they_o think_v to_o be_v save_v see_v god_n choose_v none_o or_o save_v not_o any_o but_o who_o he_o call_v effectual_o by_o the_o gospel_n 2.13_o 2_o thess_n 2.13_o and_o sever_v from_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o world_n second_o the_o fruit_n of_o election_n be_v justification_n for_o who_o he_o predestinate_v they_o he_o call_v so_o then_o here_o be_v a_o other_o token_n and_o mark_n to_o know_v whether_o we_o be_v elect_v namely_o or_o justify_v now_o this_o be_v
