without_o the_o bride_n shall_v say_v come_v than_o the_o bride_n must_v be_v suppose_v to_o say_v come_v of_o herself_o and_o without_o the_o presence_n and_o assistance_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n enlighten_v and_o reveal_v the_o thing_n unto_o they_o and_o give_v they_o direction_n and_o put_v they_o upon_o it_o to_o send_v this_o counsel_n unto_o the_o gentile_n namely_o to_o impose_v upon_o they_o by_o way_n of_o burden_n and_o charge_n no_o other_o thing_n but_o that_o they_o abstain_v from_o such_o and_o such_o thing_n so_o that_o here_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o the_o apostle_n be_v join_v together_o in_o the_o same_o act_n of_o apprehension_n so_o in_o the_o place_n in_o hand_n the_o spirit_n and_o the_o bride_n they_o make_v one_o and_o the_o same_o voice_n together_o the_o of_o mind_n in_o he_o to_o be_v communicate_v and_o reveal_v the_o counsel_n and_o secret_a thing_n of_o god_n unto_o the_o mind_n and_o conscience_n of_o man_n this_o property_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n which_o be_v of_o some_o assinity_n with_o the_o last_o name_v and_o give_v testimony_n unto_o it_o be_v oft_o mention_v in_o the_o scripture_n 1_o cor._n 2.10_o 11_o 12_o 13._o but_o god_n have_v reveal_v they_o unto_o we_o by_o his_o spirit_n for_o the_o spirit_n search_v all_o thing_n yea_o the_o deep_a thing_n of_o god_n for_o what_o man_n know_v the_o thing_n of_o a_o man_n save_o disposition_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v and_o must_v in_o reason_n need_v be_v most_o distasteful_a unto_o he_o and_o consequent_o most_o obstructive_a to_o he_o in_o his_o way_n of_o advance_v his_o bless_a presence_n in_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n the_o first_o of_o the_o four_o particular_n attribute_v unto_o the_o holy_a ghost_n in_o scripture_n be_v holiness_n sect._n
not_o believe_v except_o they_o see_v sign_n and_o wonder_n so_o the_o holy_a ghost_n himself_o represent_v such_o person_n as_o worse_a than_o harlot_n who_o do_v believe_v without_o sign_n and_o wonder_n mat._n 21.32_o john_n come_v unto_o you_o in_o the_o way_n of_o righteousness_n and_o you_o believe_v he_o not_o but_o the_o publican_n and_o harlot_n believe_v he_o so_o likewise_o whereas_o if_o they_o stay_v but_o any_o considerable_a time_n than_o they_o have_v the_o mean_n and_o opportunity_n to_o observe_v their_o life_n and_o conversation_n now_o this_o will_v do_v the_o same_o service_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o truth_n and_o for_o the_o confirmation_n of_o what_o they_o preach_v that_o miracle_n can_v do_v the_o apostle_n paul_n when_o he_o come_v to_o rome_n where_o he_o continue_v three_o year_n in_o preach_v the_o thing_n of_o god_n there_o be_v no_o mention_n of_o any_o miracle_n that_o he_o wrought_v there_o because_o he_o have_v opportunity_n to_o give_v a_o account_n and_o sufficient_a confirmation_n of_o the_o truth_n of_o his_o doctrine_n by_o the_o holiness_n and_o heavenliness_n of_o his_o life_n and_o conversation_n so_o that_o it_o be_v but_o a_o vain_a and_o empty_a pretence_n to_o talk_v of_o sign_n and_o miracle_n now_o for_o the_o confirmation_n of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n for_o indeed_o in_o speak_v such_o thing_n and_o make_v such_o demand_n they_o demonstrate_v themselves_o to_o be_v as_o be_v even_o now_o say_v of_o the_o race_n of_o those_o that_o be_v call_v a_o adulterous_a generation_n by_o the_o lord_n bring_v forth_o the_o mind_n of_o god_n in_o it_o but_o substitute_v their_o own_o thought_n and_o apprehension_n instead_o thereof_o the_o truth_n be_v that_o in_o such_o case_n as_o these_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v but_o like_o the_o word_n of_o man_n it_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o the_o word_n that_o be_v so_o pierce_a and_o search_v and_o which_o be_v the_o discerner_n of_o the_o thought_n and_o intention_n of_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n it_o be_v not_o the_o letter_n of_o it_o though_o we_o shall_v preach_v the_o jot_n and_o tittle_n of_o the_o word_n but_o then_o put_v a_o understanding_n of_o man_n this_o be_v all_o spirit_n and_o all_o life_n the_o word_n which_o i_o speak_v say_v christ_n they_o be_v spirit_n and_o life_n meaning_n in_o their_o true_a sense_n and_o meaning_n so_o that_o it_o be_v a_o clear_a case_n that_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v in_o itself_o a_o thing_n exceed_v lively_a and_o penetrative_a and_o effectual_a it_o will_v take_v man_n heart_n out_o of_o their_o body_n and_o give_v they_o into_o their_o hand_n to_o see_v all_o that_o be_v within_o they_o many_o time_n it_o pour_v out_o itself_o like_o a_o great_a flash_n of_o lightning_n and_o make_v man_n to_o see_v hideous_a shape_n of_o thought_n conceit_n opinion_n and_o apprehension_n on_o the_o one_o hand_n and_o allure_v on_o the_o other_o hand_n to_o way_n of_o holiness_n and_o virtue_n by_o strong_a and_o potent_a argument_n or_o motive_n second_o sect._n 18_o that_o it_o be_v also_o effectual_a unto_o other_o appear_v by_o the_o great_a and_o many_o wonder_v it_o have_v wrought_v in_o
condition_n of_o such_o a_o man_n soul_n and_o spirit_n it_o be_v one_o thing_n what_o god_n may_v do_v or_o suffer_v to_o be_v do_v in_o a_o case_n not_o ordinary_a and_o in_o reference_n to_o some_o extraordinary_a end_n and_o purpose_n of_o he_o in_o the_o world_n he_o may_v give_v way_n and_o his_o spirit_n may_v suspend_v his_o own_o act_n though_o the_o heart_n and_o soul_n be_v full_a of_o he_o and_o so_o there_o may_v be_v some_o weakness_n and_o impression_n of_o fear_n and_o sadness_n or_o the_o like_a but_o we_o speak_v not_o of_o what_o such_o a_o person_n may_v suffer_v at_o time_n and_o in_o case_n not_o ordinary_a but_o we_o speak_v of_o the_o stand_n and_o habitual_a frame_n of_o his_o heart_n and_o soul_n and_o what_o this_o fullness_n of_o the_o spirit_n do_v for_o he_o and_o what_o state_n it_o put_v he_o in_o ordinary_o and_o doubtless_o if_o it_o be_v not_o so_o god_n will_v want_v one_o great_a engine_n to_o draw_v and_o work_v up_o the_o heart_n and_o spirit_n of_o man_n and_o woman_n unto_o the_o height_n of_o holiness_n for_o if_o he_o will_v have_v man_n to_o be_v noah_n and_o job_n and_o daniel_n i_o mean_v to_o be_v signal_o excellent_a in_o faith_n and_o holiness_n if_o he_o will_v have_v man_n like_v unto_o the_o tall_a cedar_n in_o lebanon_n he_o must_v according_o propound_v and_o hold_v forth_o something_o by_o way_n of_o reward_n and_o recompense_n that_o shall_v as_o it_o be_v draw_v and_o work_v they_o up_o above_o the_o common_a line_n and_o the_o ordinary_a strain_n of_o the_o world_n round_o about_o they_o for_o if_o he_o shall_v have_v no_o great_a privilege_n to_o invest_v those_o withal_o who_o labour_n and_o endeavour_n and_o diligence_n shall_v surpass_v the_o labour_n and_o diligence_n of_o other_o man_n in_o way_n of_o holiness_n and_o righteousness_n the_o world_n will_v be_v all_o of_o a_o level_n and_o of_o the_o same_o pitch_n the_o whole_a world_n of_o christian_n and_o believer_n will_v be_v but_o man_n of_o a_o low_a stature_n but_o now_o god_n as_o he_o have_v go_v to_o work_v have_v variety_n of_o consideration_n and_o reward_n some_o rich_a and_o glorious_a above_o other_o to_o propound_v unto_o man_n he_o have_v take_v a_o effectual_a course_n to_o have_v the_o way_n of_o excellency_n in_o holiness_n and_o righteousness_n often_o frequent_v and_o walk_v in_o which_o otherwise_o will_v have_v be_v unoccupied_a by_o the_o son_n and_o daughter_n of_o man_n if_o he_o have_v not_o provide_v encouragement_n to_o excite_v or_o stir_v they_o up_o thereunto_o therefore_o it_o be_v very_o reasonable_a to_o conceive_v that_o a_o be_v fill_v with_o the_o spirit_n shall_v be_v reward_v by_o god_n with_o some_o signal_n privilege_n namely_o by_o render_v they_o that_o be_v so_o fill_v the_o mind_n and_o spirit_n and_o conscience_n of_o a_o man_n and_o this_o well_o build_v upon_o ground_n of_o knowledge_n by_o mean_n whereof_o a_o man_n be_v whole_a and_o entire_a himself_o and_o at_o perfect_a liberty_n to_o serve_v god_n and_o man_n and_o himself_o in_o every_o good_a way_n and_o work_v this_o be_v that_o peace_n which_o we_o call_v a_o positive_a peac_n which_o have_v joy_n and_o depend_v on_o another_o first_o he_o that_o be_v fill_v with_o the_o spirit_n must_v needs_o act_v for_o god_n at_o a_o excellent_a and_o high_a rate_n of_o zeal_n and_o faithfulness_n second_o he_o that_o act_v for_o god_n at_o such_o a_o rate_n as_o this_o be_v not_o much_o subject_n to_o be_v tempt_v and_o yet_o much_o less_o to_o be_v overcome_v or_o draw_v into_o way_n or_o work_n of_o sin_n by_o temptation_n three_o and_o last_o he_o that_o be_v not_o overcome_v by_o temptation_n nor_o draw_v to_o provoke_v god_n by_o sin_v not_o but_o enjoy_v much_o of_o that_o peace_n of_o god_n which_o as_o the_o apostle_n say_v pass_v all_o understanding_n to_o open_v this_o a_o little_a by_o the_o way_n a_o man_n who_o be_v of_o a_o large_a understanding_n may_v go_v on_o very_o far_o to_o conceive_v of_o the_o blessedness_n of_o a_o peaceable_a estate_n and_o condition_n he_o may_v form_v to_o himself_o abundance_n of_o felicity_n and_o set_v some_o kind_n of_o value_n thereon_o and_o may_v compass_v much_o ground_n and_o travel_v very_o far_o into_o this_o land_n yet_o it_o pass_v all_o understanding_n for_o when_o man_n have_v sail_v with_o their_o intellectual_a ability_n very_o far_o yet_o this_o peace_n of_o god_n have_v more_o in_o it_o more_o for_o the_o comfort_n and_o accommodation_n of_o the_o creature_n than_o ever_o will_v be_v put_v to_o account_v than_o ever_o will_v be_v draw_v out_o by_o any_o understanding_n in_o man_n but_o this_o only_a by_o the_o way_n but_o to_o return_v first_o sect._n 4_o he_o that_o be_v fill_v with_o the_o spirit_n while_o he_o place_n to_o place_n make_v it_o evident_a that_o person_n fill_v with_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n have_v still_o act_v and_o do_v very_o much_o as_o have_v be_v say_v have_v promote_v and_o carry_v of_o the_o spirit_n than_o to_o despise_v prophesy_v or_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n which_o be_v call_v the_o ministration_n of_o the_o spirit_n 2_o cor._n 3.8_o and_o the_o minister_n of_o do_v these_o thing_n with_o knowledge_n and_o against_o the_o light_n of_o his_o judgement_n and_o conscience_n or_o believe_v the_o thing_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o have_v be_v true_a certain_o he_o have_v never_o see_v that_o great_a salvation_n of_o god_n but_o have_v be_v exclude_v from_o it_o with_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o wicked_a of_o the_o world_n so_o he_o have_v another_o strain_n for_o though_o paul_n have_v be_v a_o grievous_a sinner_n and_o blasphemer_n as_o we_o hear_v yet_o he_o have_v not_o debauch_v his_o conscience_n nor_o offer_v any_o indignity_n or_o affront_n to_o these_o be_v commit_v by_o he_o not_o only_o ignorant_o that_o be_v without_o his_o know_v they_o to_o be_v sin_n but_o out_o of_o ignorance_n that_o be_v upon_o such_o term_n of_o a_o ingenuity_n of_o conscience_n that_o have_v he_o but_o know_v they_o to_o be_v sin_n he_o will_v not_o have_v commit_v they_o for_o he_o that_o be_v zealous_a towards_o god_n as_o paul_n be_v as_o we_o late_o hear_v can_v but_o upon_o knowledge_n and_o conviction_n that_o any_o of_o his_o way_n be_v hateful_a unto_o god_n present_o hate_v and_o abandon_v they_o now_o such_o thing_n as_o these_o be_v in_o paul_n before_o his_o conversion_n though_o i_o be_o not_o willing_a to_o say_v because_o i_o be_o not_o confident_a in_o believe_v it_o that_o they_o do_v reduce_v he_o into_o the_o number_n of_o those_o who_o in_o our_o saviour_n rule_n all_o this_o while_n discourse_v be_v say_v to_o have_v in_o the_o sense_n former_o declare_v to_o who_o it_o be_v promise_v that_o more_o shall_v be_v give_v good_a correspondence_n therewith_o and_o be_v of_o near_a affinity_n with_o it_o however_o by_o what_o have_v be_v former_o argue_v and_o say_v you_o may_v see_v clear_o that_o it_o be_v no_o derogation_n from_o the_o truth_n or_o from_o the_o authority_n of_o a_o general_a rule_n that_o there_o be_v some_o instance_n now_o and_o then_o that_o do_v digress_v and_o vary_v from_o it_o the_o such_o weakness_n be_v find_v upon_o they_o or_o no_o such_o unkindness_n have_v be_v do_v unto_o we_o this_o be_v the_o cast_n of_o man_n burden_n upon_o their_o own_o neck_n and_o to_o reject_v the_o commandment_n of_o christ_n by_o which_o we_o our_o self_n stand_v charge_v to_o bear_v they_o the_o apostle_n in_o this_o injunction_n of_o hear_v one_o another_o burden_n seem_v to_o suppose_v that_o even_o in_o man_n of_o the_o best_a temper_n and_o most_o conscientious_a and_o circumspect_a in_o their_o life_n and_o way_n there_o be_v somewhat_o more_o or_o less_o that_o be_v burdensome_a or_o inconvenience_n accrue_v unto_o it_o by_o the_o weakness_n or_o want_v of_o wisdom_n in_o the_o respective_a member_n of_o it_o there_o will_v be_v the_o same_o as_o full_a as_o quick_a a_o intercourse_n and_o commerce_n of_o love_n and_o of_o the_o service_n thereof_o as_o there_o will_v or_o can_v be_v in_o case_n they_o be_v all_o perfect_a and_o as_o so_o many_o angel_n of_o god_n the_o command_v of_o god_n or_o of_o jesus_fw-la christ_n but_o the_o keep_n of_o they_o will_v turn_v to_o the_o peace_n and_o comfort_n of_o man_n these_o be_v they_o that_o in_o the_o very_a nature_n of_o they_o all_o be_v apt_a to_o create_v peace_n and_o prosperity_n in_o the_o world_n and_o the_o want_n of_o a_o diligent_a and_o faithful_a performance_n of_o they_o be_v that_o that_o do_v occasion_n trouble_v between_o man_n and_o man_n and_o make_v breach_n upon_o their_o mutual_a comfort_n you_o can_v hardly_o break_v any_o of_o the_o command_v of_o jesus_n christ_n but_o you_o will_v make_v a_o breach_n upon_o the_o peace_n of_o the_o world_n you_o will_v fall_v foul_a one_o of_o another_o but_o so_o long_o as_o you_o keep_v on_o in_o the_o way_n of_o christ_n command_n you_o comply_v and_o comport_v with_o the_o peace_n and_o comfort_n of_o the_o world_n round_o about_o you_o second_o sect._n 5_o the_o very_a example_n of_o a_o through_o conformity_n and_o subjection_n to_o the_o law_n of_o god_n must_v needs_o be_v of_o a_o very_a choice_n and_o high_a accommodation_n to_o the_o world_n beside_o the_o nature_n and_o tendency_n of_o the_o action_n in_o their_o respective_a season_n along_o with_o he_o in_o his_o course_n may_v propagate_v a_o great_a generation_n of_o conformist_n in_o the_o same_o kind_n for_o who_o know_v how_o many_o tree_n of_o the_o forest_n of_o this_o world_n may_v be_v set_v on_o fire_n by_o this_o example_n man_n and_o woman_n more_o general_o seem_v to_o look_v upon_o the_o law_n of_o jesus_n christ_n as_o if_o they_o be_v give_v to_o man_n only_o to_o hear_v and_o speak_v of_o or_o at_o most_o to_o live_v by_o in_o another_o world_n and_o so_o the_o neglect_n or_o breach_n of_o they_o touch_v few_o man_n conscience_n make_v no_o breach_n upon_o their_o peace_n whereas_o if_o these_o law_n be_v but_o translate_v into_o practice_n by_o flesh_n and_o blood_n by_o man_n and_o woman_n subject_a to_o like_a passion_n and_o infirmity_n with_o themselves_o this_o will_v beget_v other_o manner_n of_o thought_n in_o the_o heart_n and_o conscience_n of_o the_o world_n general_o concern_v they_o do_v man_n but_o serious_o consider_v it_o with_o themselves_o that_o if_o flesh_n and_o blood_n man_n of_o the_o same_o nature_n liable_a to_o the_o same_o tentation_n with_o themselves_o by_o the_o same_o mean_n and_o assistance_n both_o inward_a and_o outward_a which_o be_v afford_v unto_o they_o can_v keep_v the_o commandment_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o walk_v holy_o they_o can_v not_o light_o but_o be_v convince_v that_o certain_o the_o god_n of_o heaven_n will_v look_v for_o it_o at_o their_o hand_n that_o they_o go_v and_o do_v likewise_o again_o second_o sect._n 6_o he_o that_o shall_v holiness_n especial_o when_o they_o shall_v abound_v and_o advance_v in_o the_o life_n and_o conversation_n of_o man_n like_o the_o wave_n of_o the_o sea_n when_o one_o wave_n drive_v on_o another_o so_o when_o one_o act_n of_o righteousness_n and_o holiness_n shall_v follow_v in_o the_o neck_n of_o another_o and_o when_o they_o shall_v increase_v and_o rise_v high_o and_o high_o there_o will_v bring_v into_o their_o soul_n the_o sense_n and_o fruit_n of_o this_o bless_a posture_n of_o soul_n towards_o they_o this_o creat_v a_o clear_a and_o strong_a apprehension_n in_o they_o that_o thing_n be_v so_o and_o so_o according_a to_o their_o heart_n desire_v they_o know_v there_o be_v no_o touch_n of_o any_o fire_n of_o displeasure_n against_o they_o the_o clear_a pregnant_a and_o lively_a testimony_n of_o a_o man_n conscience_n that_o he_o do_v work_v righteousness_n especial_o that_o he_o abound_v therein_o can_v light_o but_o make_v he_o to_o be_v a_o man_n of_o a_o serene_a spirit_n and_o one_o that_o fear_v no_o colour_n from_o heaven_n and_o if_o one_o strain_n of_o righteousness_n only_o viz._n mercy_n as_o james_n say_v chap._n 2.13_o rejoice_v against_o judgement_n i._n e._n no_o knowledge_n of_o such_o thing_n from_o any_o nor_o to_o draw_v back_o from_o they_o or_o to_o withhold_v the_o hand_n of_o their_o goodness_n bounty_n or_o good_a will_n in_o any_o kind_n from_o they_o upon_o the_o account_n of_o any_o such_o hard_a measure_n receive_v this_o be_v one_o of_o the_o high_a and_o one_o of_o the_o most_o spiritual_a strain_n that_o can_v be_v that_o the_o spiritual_a action_n and_o which_o have_v a_o more_o immediate_a and_o strong_a connexion_n with_o their_o present_a joy_n and_o comfort_n and_o also_o with_o their_o eternal_a life_n and_o good_a and_o gentleness_n of_o spirit_n which_o the_o apostle_n call_v for_o at_o the_o hand_n of_o christian_n we_o may_v instance_n in_o many_o more_o particular_n of_o this_o nature_n but_o you_o see_v by_o that_o little_a which_o we_o have_v insist_v upon_o what_o we_o mean_v by_o sow_v to_o the_o spirit_n but_o if_o you_o ask_v how_o shall_v such_o a_o thing_n as_o this_o be_v any_o way_n or_o mean_n to_o help_v we_o forward_o in_o this_o viz._n a_o be_v fill_v with_o the_o spirit_n or_o any_o way_n promote_v such_o a_o end_n i_o answer_v this_o be_v clear_a from_o the_o principle_n
