petition_n for_o peace_n so_o much_o withstand_v by_o many_o who_o do_v judge_v more_o evil_o of_o we_o than_o we_o do_v deserve_v and_o that_o be_v the_o serious_a take_v notice_n first_o of_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o petition_n second_o of_o the_o nature_n of_o this_o answer_n 1_o in_o the_o petition_n we_o be_v to_o consider_v 1_o title_n 2_o preamble_n 3_o prayer_n thereof_o first_o in_o the_o title_n they_o petition_v to_o the_o king_n most_o excellent_a majesty_n in_o who_o hand_n there_o be_v power_n and_o we_o do_v hope_n in_o who_o heart_n there_o have_v be_v a_o will_n to_o make_v we_o happy_a by_o a_o gracious_a reply_n and_o sure_o as_o it_o have_v be_v the_o high_a way_n to_o our_o felicity_n so_o have_v it_o be_v great_o for_o his_o glory_n and_o as_o it_o have_v fill_v our_o mouth_n with_o joy_n so_o have_v muzzle_v the_o mouth_n of_o those_o who_o do_v premise_v no_o better_a issue_n of_o it_o than_o now_o we_o see_v second_o we_o be_v to_o consider_v the_o petitioner_n the_o humble_a petition_n of_o the_o mayor_n alderman_n and_o commons_o of_o the_o city_n of_o london_n a_o act_n of_o the_o joint_a body_n of_o the_o whole_a city_n and_o therefore_o we_o do_v hope_v most_o likely_a to_o prevail_v with_o his_o majesty_n thus_o for_o the_o title_n second_o for_o the_o preamble_n and_o therein_o be_v contain_v the_o petitioner_n grievance_n as_o the_o ground_n of_o their_o prayer_n and_o they_o be_v three_o first_o the_o division_n between_o his_o majesty_n and_o parliament_n second_o the_o sad_a effect_n thereof_o both_o here_o and_o in_o ireland_n three_o the_o misapprehension_n conceive_v in_o his_o majesty_n of_o the_o petitioner_n love_n and_o loyalty_n and_o from_o hence_o they_o promise_v his_o majesty_n and_o profess_v that_o as_o they_o be_v for_o the_o present_a so_o they_o will_v always_o continue_v his_o loyal_a obedient_a and_o love_a subject_n promise_v according_a to_o their_o protestation_n and_o vow_n make_v great_a glory_n this_o be_v the_o preamble_n of_o the_o petition_n three_o in_o the_o prayer_n we_o may_v note_v 1._o the_o mean_n of_o it_o and_o that_o be_v the_o most_o humble_a submissive_a manner_n as_o it_o be_v possible_a for_o they_o to_o do_v the_o petitioner_n therefore_o upon_o their_o bend_a knee_n do_v most_o humble_o beseech_v your_o majesty_n etc._n etc._n 2._o the_o matter_n of_o the_o petition_n and_o that_o be_v twofold_a first_o that_o his_o majesty_n will_v be_v please_v to_o return_v to_o his_o parliament_n with_o his_o royal_a and_o not_o his_o martial_a attendant_n second_o that_o such_o a_o peace_n may_v be_v conclude_v upon_o as_o may_v be_v for_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n the_o honour_n and_o happiness_n of_o his_o majesty_n and_o his_o posterity_n the_o safety_n and_o welfare_n of_o all_o his_o loyal_a subject_n thus_o we_o see_v the_o nature_n of_o the_o petition_n wherein_o for_o person_n manner_n and_o matter_n envy_v itself_o can_v suggest_v the_o very_a lest_o miscarriage_n who_o can_v have_v otherways_o think_v but_o that_o we_o shall_v have_v have_v such_o a_o answer_n to_o such_o a_o petition_n so_o manage_v as_o may_v at_o least_o have_v cause_v our_o peace_n and_o happiness_n after_o our_o dismal_a distraction_n as_o the_o spring_n after_o winter_n to_o have_v bud_v in_o our_o heart_n but_o alas_o this_o unexpected_a answer_n if_o it_o be_v the_o true_a answer_n to_o the_o petition_n have_v like_o a_o nip_a frost_n kill_v our_o hope_n in_o the_o very_a bud_n and_o it_o can_v be_v otherways_o if_o we_o consider_v the_o nature_n of_o this_o answer_n wherein_o we_o be_v to_o observe_v first_o the_o title_n second_o the_o answer_n itself_o
first_o the_o title_n his_o majesty_n have_v gracious_o consider_v this_o petition_n and_o return_v this_o answer_n sure_o it_o be_v no_o more_o gracious_o consider_v then_o gracious_o answer_v and_o true_o we_o have_v no_o more_o reason_n to_o believe_v this_o answer_n his_o majesty_n then_o gracious_a for_o sure_o his_o majesty_n personal_a protestation_n of_o a_o desire_n for_o peace_n do_v look_v upon_o london_n as_o awe_v by_o any_o thing_n but_o the_o law_n of_o the_o land_n and_o the_o lawful_a power_n and_o exercise_v thereof_o which_o his_o majesty_n have_v over_o they_o much_o less_o by_o any_o promoter_n and_o chief_a causer_n of_o unlawful_a tumult_n especial_o raise_v against_o his_o majesty_n and_o if_o by_o the_o army_n which_o he_o say_v give_v he_o battle_n be_v mean_v the_o parliament_n army_n which_o give_v tho_o cavalier_n battle_n who_o go_v about_o to_o destroy_v the_o law_n liberty_n and_o religion_n of_o the_o kingdom_n his_o majesty_n can_v but_o know_v that_o the_o city_n be_v so_o far_o from_o be_v awe_v by_o they_o and_o in_o fear_n of_o they_o as_o that_o under_o god_n we_o look_v upon_o they_o as_o mean_n to_o defend_v we_o from_o that_o cruel_a popish_a and_o atheistical_a army_n which_o detain_v his_o majesty_n from_o his_o parliament_n and_o therefore_o we_o both_o have_v and_o will_n to_o the_o last_o penny_n in_o our_o purse_n and_o blood_n in_o our_o body_n maintain_v and_o assist_v they_o in_o so_o good_a and_o just_a a_o cause_n 4._o we_o have_v a_o acknowledgement_n of_o his_o majesty_n desire_n to_o establish_v the_o particular_a peace_n and_o prosperity_n of_o the_o city_n true_o can_v we_o see_v his_o majesty_n return_v to_o his_o parliament_n and_o desert_n his_o popish_a and_o treacherous_a counsel_n and_o army_n we_o shall_v believe_v the_o reality_n of_o affection_n a_o thousand_o time_n more_o than_o we_o can_v his_o present_a protestation_n thus_o we_o see_v the_o first_o part_n of_o his_o majesty_n reply_n viz._n his_o maresties_n acknowledgement_n of_o his_o respect_n in_o general_a by_o way_n of_o introduction_n second_o the_o second_o part_n be_v his_o majesty_n present_a recent_n or_o implicit_a denial_n of_o the_o petition_n with_o his_o ground_n and_o reason_n his_o general_a ground_n be_v his_o fear_n of_o security_n in_o the_o city_n upon_o 5._o special_a reason_n first_o the_o despise_v and_o trample_v under_o foot_n the_o law_n of_o the_o land_n in_o this_o city_n sure_o this_o charge_n be_v very_o criminal_a and_o be_v london_n guilty_a of_o it_o they_o shall_v deserve_v rather_o strict_a severity_n than_o his_o majesty_n lenity_n but_o sure_o we_o be_v if_o london_n be_v guilty_a of_o this_o then_o be_v the_o adverse_a army_n 7._o fold_n more_o guilty_a and_o we_o of_o no_o reputation_n be_v a_o argument_n as_o of_o sordid_a impiety_n so_o of_o sottish_a stupidity_n but_o sure_o though_o london_n have_v be_v guilty_a of_o this_o slavish_a folly_n and_o foolish_a slavery_n in_o former_a time_n as_o it_o be_v too_o well_o know_v to_o its_o shame_n yet_o repentance_n and_o resolution_n have_v i_o hope_v wipe_v that_o guilt_n of_o and_o make_v london_n the_o incorrigeablenesse_n and_o stiffness_n of_o her_o neck_n to_o the_o yoke_n of_o slavery_n which_o have_v make_v london_n so_o obnoxious_a unto_o these_o present_a distraction_n and_o
