to_o the_o right_n honourable_a the_o lord_n maior_fw-la alderman_n and_o commons_o of_o the_o city_n of_o london_n in_o common_a council_n assemble_v the_o humble_a petition_n of_o divers_a well-affected_a householder_n and_o freeman_n of_o the_o say_a city_n show_v that_o your_o petitioner_n can_v but_o thankful_o acknowledge_v the_o just_a and_o prudent_a resolution_n of_o this_o honourable_a council_n express_v in_o your_o declaration_n of_o the_o 20_o of_o december_n last_o past_a and_o be_v unshaken_o confident_a that_o that_o god_n who_o put_v your_o thought_n and_o counsel_n on_o the_o resolve_v will_v strengthen_v your_o courage_n in_o prosecute_v of_o those_o lawful_a mean_n that_o may_v lead_v to_o the_o attainment_n of_o that_o just_a and_o necessary_a end_n a_o free_a parliament_n without_o which_o the_o undoubted_a birthright_n of_o the_o english_a nation_n in_o their_o person_n estate_n and_o all_o liberty_n both_o religious_a and_o civil_a can_v never_o be_v preserve_v and_o shall_v this_o court_n submit_v themselves_o to_o any_o other_o constitution_n of_o man_n than_o such_o as_o may_v rightful_o claim_v the_o legislative_a power_n of_o the_o nation_n and_o by_o act_v on_o any_o other_o authority_n in_o assess_v or_o levy_v any_o sum_n of_o money_n on_o your_o petitioner_n estate_n your_o petitioner_n humble_o conceive_v that_o this_o court_n shall_v give_v the_o whole_a nation_n cause_n of_o very_o sad_a reflection_n on_o your_o defection_n from_o your_o say_a declaration_n with_o which_o the_o most_o part_n of_o the_o other_o country_n and_o corporation_n have_v free_o concur_v and_o your_o petitioner_n may_v have_v occasion_n to_o complain_v that_o they_o have_v most_o unhappy_o be_v cast_v into_o the_o world_n in_o a_o generation_n that_o have_v at_o once_o make_v a_o costly_a purchase_n of_o present_a misery_n to_o themselves_o and_o perpetual_a slavery_n to_o their_o posterity_n and_o therefore_o your_o petitioner_n humble_o pray_v that_o it_o may_v please_v this_o honourable_a court_n to_o act_v worthy_a of_o your_o predecessor_n and_o your_o own_o profess_a resolution_n by_o declare_v to_o the_o world_n or_o at_o least_o assure_v your_o petitioner_n that_o you_o will_v not_o act_n yourselves_o or_o consent_n that_o any_o other_o power_n or_o person_n shall_v impose_v any_o law_n or_o tax_n upon_o any_o of_o those_o citizen_n with_o who_o general_a concernment_n this_o court_n be_v entrust_v until_o the_o authority_n thereof_o may_v be_v derive_v from_o a_o full_a and_o free_a parliament_n as_o be_v the_o rightful_a representative_n of_o the_o people_n by_o who_o every_o individual_a do_v consent_n by_o which_o and_o which_o only_o next_o under_o god_n your_o petitioner_n can_v rational_o hope_v their_o languish_a trade_n may_v be_v revive_v and_o their_o heart_n and_o purse_n together_o enlarge_v to_o a_o cheerful_a and_o liberal_a contribution_n towards_o their_o lawful_a government_n and_o protection_n according_a to_o magna_fw-la charta_fw-la and_o the_o petition_n of_o right_n and_o your_o petitioner_n shall_v ever_o pray_v etc._n etc._n this_o petition_n be_v present_v by_o divers_a citizen_n of_o quality_n the_o 8_o of_o february_n 1659._o the_o answer_n whereunto_o be_v that_o the_o court_n have_v read_v this_o petition_n and_o will_v take_v the_o same_o into_o consideration_n so_o far_o as_o concern_v this_o court_n and_o do_v give_v the_o petitioner_n the_o thanks_o of_o the_o court_n for_o their_o respect_n and_o patience_n london_n print_v by_o j._n h._n 1659._o
