his_o house_n be_v to_o receive_v a_o letter_n from_o he_o to_o oxford_n and_o after_o many_o good_a instruction_n he_o ask_v i_o if_o i_o have_v be_v at_o the_o sermon_n that_o morning_n i_o tell_v he_o yea_o and_o do_v you_o say_v he_o hear_v those_o wonderful_a thing_n which_o god_n have_v provide_v for_o they_o that_o love_v he_o and_o so_o he_o ready_o pick_v out_o all_o those_o passage_n which_o be_v any_o way_n subservient_fw-fr to_o use_n and_o profit_n it_o be_v wonderful_a to_o i_o to_o see_v how_o a_o holy_a heart_n can_v draw_v comfort_n out_o of_o any_o thing_n the_o sermon_n as_o mr._n jurdaine_v repeat_v to_o i_o be_v another_o kind_n of_o sermon_n and_o seem_v to_o be_v savoury_a and_o spiritual_a i_o remember_v with_o what_o warmth_n and_o vigour_n he_o speak_v of_o it_o even_o till_o this_o day_n and_o hope_v that_o i_o shall_v never_o forget_v it_o 5._o this_o be_v not_o to_o be_v forget_v his_o send_v a_o letter_n to_o the_o late_a king_n and_o expostulate_v with_o he_o about_o set_v forth_o the_o book_n concern_v sport_n and_o recreation_n on_o the_o lord_n day_n which_o be_v enclose_v in_o another_o to_o the_o bishop_n of_o exeter_n to_o desire_v he_o to_o convey_v it_o and_o notice_n be_v give_v to_o the_o bishop_n that_o copy_n of_o it_o be_v divulge_v possible_o by_o the_o transcriber_n he_o think_v he_o can_v not_o conceal_v it_o with_o safety_n and_o therefore_o carry_v it_o to_o the_o king_n who_o when_o he_o have_v read_v it_o in_o a_o great_a anger_n say_v he_o will_v hang_v he_o but_o the_o bishop_n a_o pious_a man_n fall_v upon_o his_o knee_n and_o beseech_v his_o majesty_n pardon_n allege_v that_o god_n have_v not_o a_o better_a servant_n nor_o his_o majesty_n a_o better_a subject_n in_o the_o whole_a land_n when_o the_o bishop_n return_v from_o his_o month_n attendance_n mr._n jurdaine_v go_v to_o visit_v he_o and_o after_o civility_n past_a the_o bishop_n say_v ah_o mr._n jurdaine_v will_v you_o put_v i_o upon_o so_o hot_a a_o service_n you_o know_v there_o be_v many_o eye_n upon_o i_o mean_v the_o archbishop_n party_n who_o suspect_v he_o as_o a_o favourer_n of_o puritan_n yea_o my_o lord_n say_v mr._n jurdaine_v there_o be_v eye_n upon_o you_o the_o eye_n of_o god_n and_o his_o holy_a angel_n to_o see_v how_o you_o discharge_v your_o duty_n and_o office_n as_o the_o king_n chaplain_n and_o bishop_n of_o the_o church_n 6._o now_o and_o then_o when_o he_o have_v leisure_n he_o will_v usual_o go_v to_o his_o neighbour_n shop_n and_o admonish_v they_o to_o take_v heed_n that_o the_o care_n of_o the_o world_n do_v not_o deaden_a their_o spirit_n to_o heavenly_a thing_n tell_v they_o if_o they_o have_v many_o thousand_o it_o will_v not_o still_o the_o cry_n of_o conscience_n purchase_v the_o least_o favour_n from_o god_n nor_o so_o much_o as_o ease_v the_o pain_n of_o the_o tooth_n or_o keep_v off_o one_o fit_a of_o a_o ague_n yea_o if_o money_n be_v throw_v to_o the_o dog_n they_o will_v not_o so_o much_o as_o smell_v at_o it_o 7._o he_o will_v often_o persuade_v his_o fellow-magistrate_n to_o a_o liberal_a provision_n for_o the_o poor_a and_o when_o they_o will_v ask_v he_o where_o they_o shall_v have_v money_n he_o will_v answer_v god_n will_v provide_v rather_o than_o the_o poor_a shall_v want_v let_v we_o sell_v our_o gown_n 8._o when_o he_o do_v distribute_v money_n to_o the_o poor_a with_o his_o own_o hand_n in_o a_o time_n of_o great_a infection_n and_o some_o ask_v he_o if_o he_o be_v not_o afraid_a of_o the_o plague_n what_o say_v he_o afraid_a of_o god_n visitation_n let_v we_o fear_v rather_o the_o plague-sore_a of_o our_o own_o heart_n 9_o in_o his_o trouble_n in_o the_o star-chamber_n when_o one_o tell_v he_o he_o be_v sorry_a that_o the_o lord_n keeper_n be_v against_o he_o he_o answer_v i_o have_v a_o great_a lord_n keeper_n than_o he_o the_o lord_n be_v my_o keeper_n i_o shall_v not_o be_v afraid_a 10._o it_o be_v not_o amiss_o to_o set_v down_o what_o other_o think_v of_o he_o i_o remember_v a_o godly_a man_n observe_v he_o that_o in_o every_o business_n though_o he_o advenfar_o the_o lord_n carry_v he_o through_o with_o reputation_n and_o so_o compare_v he_o with_o another_o of_o great_a part_n who_o though_o godly_a be_v always_o toil_v in_o every_o undertake_n drunkard_n and_o frequenter_n of_o alehouse_n be_v afraid_a of_o he_o he_o be_v their_o usual_a bugbear_n their_o memento_n in_o the_o middle_n of_o their_o excess_n be_v its_o time_n to_o be_v go_v mr._n jurdaine_v will_v come_v by_o and_o by_o the_o ordinary_a sort_n of_o man_n be_v convince_v of_o his_o integrity_n insomuch_o as_o carnal_a and_o vicious_a man_n at_o a_o time_n of_o election_n of_o burgess_n for_o parliament_n will_v say_v one_o to_o another_o if_o you_o choose_v any_o choose_v jurdaine_v he_o will_v be_v right_a for_o the_o commenwealth_n and_o will_v do_v the_o city_n service_n he_o be_v twice_o choose_v burgess_n for_o the_o parliament_n and_o once_o mayor_n of_o the_o city_n and_o once_o deputy_n mayor_n in_o a_o time_n of_o great_a infection_n by_o the_o pestilence_n the_o reverend_a minister_n that_o preach_v his_o funeral_n sermon_n among_o other_o have_v this_o expression_n look_v upon_o his_o will_n and_o you_o will_v think_v he_o the_o rich_a man_n in_o the_o city_n though_o many_o exceed_v he_o in_o estate_n but_o few_o or_o none_o in_o make_v provision_n for_o the_o poor_a delinquent_n seldom_o go_v from_o he_o without_o conviction_n a_o noble_a man_n servant_n that_o have_v scorn_v he_o be_v bring_v before_o he_o and_o convict_v for_o have_v swear_v rash_o three_o time_n mr._n jurdaine_v demand_v his_o fine_a and_o show_v he_o the_o heinousness_n of_o the_o sin_n with_o which_o the_o man_n be_v calm_v and_o though_o he_o come_v from_o his_o companion_n brave_v yet_o he_o return_v with_o the_o acknowledgement_n that_o he_o be_v a_o good_a justicer_n and_o when_o they_o ask_v he_o what_o jurdaine_v do_v to_o he_o he_o answer_v he_o give_v i_o good_a law_n and_o fair_a word_n i_o have_v hear_v above_o thirty_o year_n ago_o that_o some_o godly_a person_n in_o exeter_n be_v convent_v before_o the_o bishop_n court_n for_o keep_v some_o private_a day_n of_o humiliation_n whereupon_o mr._n jurdaine_v go_v to_o the_o bishop_n who_o be_v a_o godly_a man_n to_o
