or_o curate_n and_o churchwarden_n of_o the_o paryshe_v at_o which_o account_n such_o of_o the_o paryshe_v as_o will_n may_v be_v present_a and_o when_o they_o go_v out_o of_o their_o office_n they_o shall_v delyver_v or_o cause_v to_o be_v delyver_v forthwith_o upon_o the_o end_n of_o their_o account_n all_o such_o surplusage_n of_o money_n as_o then_o shall_v remain_v of_o their_o collection_n undistribute_v to_o be_v put_v in_o their_o common_a chest_n of_o the_o church_n or_o in_o some_o other_o safe_a place_n to_o the_o use_n of_o the_o poor_a at_o the_o oversyght_n and_o discression_n way_n to_o extend_v their_o charity_n to_o the_o poor_a as_o in_o this_o act_n be_v well_o mean_v &_o intend_v and_o if_o the_o person_n or_o person_n so_o send_v for_o of_z his_z or_o their_o froward_a or_o wylfull_a mind_n shall_v obstinate_o refuse_v to_o geve_v weke_o for_o the_o relief_n of_o the_o poor_a according_a to_o his_o or_o their_o hability_n that_o then_o the_o bishop_n or_o ordinary_a of_o the_o diocese_n chauncelour_n or_o their_o commissary_n shall_v have_v full_a power_n and_o authority_n by_o virtue_n of_o this_o act_n to_o bind_v the_o say_v obstinate_a and_o as_o the_o late_a king_n of_o famous_a memory_n king_n henry_n the_o viij_o his_o heir_n or_o successor_n or_o any_o other_o person_n or_o person_n by_o his_o or_o their_o several_a &_o lawful_a erection_n and_o foundation_n have_v or_o have_v ordain_v &_o appoint_v any_o sum_n or_o sum_n of_o money_n to_o the_o use_n of_o the_o poor_a or_o for_o the_o repair_a or_o amend_v of_o high_a way_n or_o bridge_n not_o be_v take_v away_o otherwise_o by_o act_n of_o parliament_n whether_o the_o same_o be_v in_o any_o cathedral_n church_n college_n or_o else_o where_o the_o bishop_n of_o the_o diocese_n or_o chauncelour_n for_o the_o time_n be_v shall_v from_o time_n to_o time_n examine_v how_o and_o after_o what_o manner_n the_o say_a money_n be_v bestow_v &_o to_o call_v to_o account_v the_o party_n which_o retain_v the_o say_a money_n and_o thereupon_o to_o take_v such_o order_n as_o the_o same_o from_o thenceforth_o be_v distribute_v to_o the_o poor_a accord_v to_o the_o good_a or_o half_o the_o year_n at_o the_o least_o for_o the_o dyg_n seek_v find_a get_v melt_v fyne_a work_a try_v make_v of_o any_o silver_n tin_n lead_v iron_n copper_n stone_n sea_n coal_n stone_n coal_n moor_n coal_n or_o cherk_n coal_n nor_o be_v occupy_v in_o or_o about_o y_z e_z make_v of_o any_o glass_n nor_o be_v a_o gentleman_n bear_v nor_o be_v a_o student_n or_o scholar_n in_o any_o of_o the_o university_n or_o in_o any_o school_n nor_o have_v land_n tenement_n rent_n or_o hereditamente_n for_o term_v of_o life_n or_o of_o one_o estate_n of_o inheritance_n of_o the_o clear_a yearly_a value_n of_o xl.s_n nor_o be_v worth_a in_o good_n and_o cattle_n to_o the_o value_n of_o x.li_fw-la nor_o have_v a_o father_n or_o mother_n then_o lyve_n or_o other_o auncestour_n who_o heir_n apparent_a he_o be_v then_o have_v land_n tenemente_n or_o hereditament_n of_o the_o yearly_a value_n of_o x.li_fw-la or_o above_o or_o good_n or_o cattle_n of_o the_o value_n of_o xl_o li._n nor_o be_v a_o necessary_a or_o convenient_a officer_n or_o servant_n lawful_o retain_v as_o be_v aforesaid_a nor_o have_v a_o convenient_a ferme_fw-fr or_o hold_v whereupon_o he_o may_v or_o shall_v employ_v his_o labour_n nor_o be_v otherwise_o lawful_o retain_v according_a to_o the_o true_a meaning_n of_o this_o statute_n shall_v after_o the_o foresay_a last_o day_n of_o september_n now_o next_o ensue_v by_o virtue_n of_o this_o estatute_n be_v compel_v to_o be_v retain_v to_o serve_v in_o husbandrye_a by_o the_o year_n with_o any_o person_n that_o keep_v husbandry_n &_o will_v require_v any_o such_o person_n so_o to_o serve_v within_o the_o same_o shire_n where_o he_o shall_v be_v so_o require_v and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n of_o this_o present_a parliament_n that_o if_o any_o person_n after_o he_o have_v retain_v any_o servant_n shall_v put_v away_o the_o
same_o servant_n before_o the_o end_n of_o his_o term_n unless_o it_o be_v for_o some_o reasonable_a and_o sufficient_a cause_n to_o be_v allow_v as_o be_v aforesaid_a or_o if_o any_o such_o master_n master_n or_o dame_n shall_v put_v away_o any_o such_o servant_n at_o the_o end_n of_o his_o term_n without_o one_o quarter_n warn_v give_v before_o the_o say_a end_n as_o be_v above_o remember_v before_o the_o lord_n precedent_n &_o counsel_n establish_v in_o the_o march_n of_o wales_n or_o before_o the_o lord_n precedent_n and_o counsel_n for_o the_o time_n be_v establish_v in_o the_o north_n party_n shall_v forfeit_v the_o sum_n of_o xl.s._n and_o if_o any_o servant_n retain_v according_a to_o the_o form_n of_o this_o estatute_n depart_v from_o his_o master_n master_n or_o dame_n corporat_fw-la if_o there_o be_v no_o alderman_n where_o the_o say_a master_n master_n or_o dame_n or_o the_o say_a party_n to_o or_o with_o who_o you_o e_o say_v refusal_n be_v make_v &_o promise_n not_o keep_v dwell_v or_o to_o either_o of_o the_o say_a lord_n president_n &_o counsel_n of_o wales_n &_o the_o north_n the_o say_a justice_n lord_n president_n &_o counsel_n &_o also_o the_o say_a major_n or_o other_o head_n officer_n &_o other_o person_n of_o city_n boroughe_n or_o town_n corporate_a or_o any_o of_o they_o as_o be_v aforesaid_a shall_v have_v power_n by_o force_n of_o this_o statute_n to_o hear_v &_o examine_v the_o matter_n and_o find_v the_o say_a servant_n or_o the_o say_a party_n so_o refuse_v faulty_a in_o the_o premise_n upon_o such_o proof_n &_o good_a matter_n as_o to_o their_o discression_n shall_v be_v think_v sufficient_a to_o commit_v he_o or_o they_o to_o ward_v there_o to_o remain_v without_o bail_n or_o maynpryse_n untyll_o the_o say_a servant_n or_o party_n so_o offend_v shall_v be_v bind_v to_o the_o party_n to_o who_o the_o offence_n shall_v be_v make_v to_o serve_v and_o continue_v with_o he_o for_o the_o wage_n that_o then_o shall_v be_v limit_v and_o appoint_v according_a to_o the_o tenor_n &_o form_n of_o this_o estatute_n and_o to_o be_v discharge_v upon_o his_o delyvery_n without_o pay_v any_o fee_n to_o the_o jailor_n where_o he_o or_o they_o shall_v be_v so_o imprison_v and_o be_v it_o likewise_o enact_v by_o thaucthoritie_n aforesaid_a that_o none_o of_o the_o say_v retain_v person_n in_o husbandry_n or_o in_o any_o the_o art_n or_o science_n above_o remember_v after_o the_o time_n of_o his_o reteynour_n expire_v shall_v depart_v forth_o of_o one_o city_n town_n or_o parish_n to_o another_o nor_o out_o of_o the_o lathe_n rape_n wapentake_n or_o hundred_o nor_o out_o of_o the_o county_n or_o shire_n where_o he_o last_o serve_v to_o serve_v in_o any_o other_o city_n town_n corporate_a lethe_n rape_n wapentake_n hundred_o shire_n or_o county_n unless_o he_o have_v a_o testimonial_a under_o the_o seal_n of_o the_o say_a city_n or_o town_n corporate_a or_o of_o the_o constable_n or_o constable_n or_o other_o head_n officer_n or_o officer_n and_o of_o two_o other_o honest_a householder_n of_o the_o city_n town_n or_o paryshe_v where_o he_o last_o serve_v declare_v his_o lawful_a departure_n and_o the_o name_n of_o the_o shire_n and_o place_n where_o he_o dwell_v last_o before_o his_o departure_n accord_v to_o the_o form_n hereafter_o express_v in_o this_o act_n which_o certificate_n or_o testimonial_a shall_v be_v write_v and_o delyver_v unto_o the_o say_a servant_n and_o also_o register_v by_o the_o parson_n vicar_n or_o curate_n of_o the_o paryshe_v where_o such_o master_n master_n or_o dame_n do_v or_o shall_v dwell_v take_v for_o the_o do_v thereof_o ii.d._a and_o not_o above_o and_o the_o form_n thereof_o shall_v be_v as_o follow_v memorand_n that_o a_o b._n late_a servant_n to_o c_o d._n of_o e._n husbandman_n or_o taillour_n &c_n &c_n in_o the_o say_a county_n be_v license_v to_o depart_v from_o his_o say_a master_n and_o be_v at_o his_o liberty_n to_o serve_v else_o where_o accord_v to_o the_o statute_n in_o that_o case_n make_v and_o provide_v in_o witness_v whereof_o &c_n &c_n date_a the_o day_n month_n year_n &_o place_n &c_n &c_n of_o the_o make_v thereof_o and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v by_o thaucthoritie_n aforesaid_a that_o no_o person_n or_o person_n that_o shall_v depart_v out_o of_o service_n shall_v be_v retain_v or_o accept_v into_o any_o other_o service_n without_o show_v before_o his_o reteinor_n such_o testimonial_a as_o be_v above_o remember_v to_o the_o chief_a officer_n of_o the_o town_n corporate_a and_o in_o every_o other_o town_n &_o place_n to_o the_o constable_n curate_z churchwarden_n or_o other_o head_n officer_n of_o the_o same_o where_o he_o shall_v be_v retain_v to_o serve_v upon_o the_o pain_n that_o every_o such_o servant_n so_o depart_v without_o such_o certificate_n or_o testimonial_n shall_v be_v imprison_v untyll_o he_o procure_v a_o testimonial_a or_o certificate_n the_o which_o if_o he_o can_v do_v within_o the_o space_n of_o xxi_o day_n next_o after_o the_o first_o day_n of_o his_o imprisonment_n then_o the_o say_a person_n to_o be_v whip_v &_o use_v as_o a_o vacanbond_n accord_v to_o y_z e_z law_n in_o such_o case_n provide_v and_o that_o every_o person_n retain_v any_o such_o servant_n without_o show_v such_o testimonyall_n of_o certificate_n as_o be_v aforesaid_a shall_v forfeit_v for_o everye_o such_o offence_n fyve_o pound_n and_o if_o any_o such_o person_n shall_v be_v take_v with_o any_o counterfeit_n or_o forge_a testimonial_a then_o to_o be_v whip_v as_o a_o vagabound_n and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v by_o the_o auctoritye_n aforesaid_a that_o all_o artificer_n and_o laborer_n be_v hire_v for_o wage_n by_o the_o day_n or_o week_n shall_v betwixt_o the_o mid_n of_o the_o month_n of_o march_n and_o september_n be_v and_o continue_v at_o their_o work_n at_o or_o before_o fyve_o of_o the_o cloak_n in_o the_o morning_n and_o continue_v at_o work_n and_o not_o depart_v untyll_o betwixt_o seven_o and_o eight_o of_o the_o clock_n at_o night_n except_o it_o be_v in_o the_o time_n of_o breakfast_n dinner_n or_o drynk_v the_o which_o time_n at_o the_o most_o shall_v not_o exceed_v above_o two_o hour_n and_o a_o half_a in_o the_o day_n that_o be_v to_o say_v at_o every_o drynk_n one_o half_a hour_n for_o his_o dinner_n one_o hour_n and_o for_o his_o sleep_v when_o he_o be_v allow_v to_o sleep_v the_o which_o be_v from_o
day_n of_o july_n yearly_o certify_v into_o the_o say_a court_n of_o chauncerye_a their_o resolution_n and_o determination_n therein_o to_o the_o intent_n that_o proclamation_n may_v accordynglye_o be_v renew_a and_o send_v down_o and_o if_o it_o shall_v happen_v that_o there_o be_v no_o need_n of_o any_o reformation_n or_o alteration_n of_o the_o rate_n of_o the_o say_a wage_n but_o that_o the_o former_a shall_v be_v think_v meet_a to_o be_v continue_v then_o the_o proclamation_n for_o the_o year_n past_a shall_v remain_v in_o force_n until_o new_a proclamation_n upon_o new_a rate_n concern_v the_o say_a wage_n shall_v be_v send_v down_o accord_v to_o the_o form_n of_o this_o estatute_n and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v by_o authority_n of_o this_o present_a parlyament_n that_o if_o all_o the_o say_a justice_n of_o peace_n resiant_a within_o county_n where_o they_o be_v or_o shall_v be_v justice_n of_o peace_n major_n and_o head_n officer_n do_v not_o before_o the_o ten_o day_n of_o june_n next_o come_v and_o afterward_o yearelye_o appear_v and_o assemble_v at_o the_o say_v general_a session_n or_o within_o syxe_n week_n next_o after_o the_o say_v general_a session_n and_o lymitte_v and_o rate_v the_o wage_n of_o the_o say_a servant_n and_o laborer_n or_o shall_v not_o consider_v whether_o the_o former_a rate_n make_v be_v meet_a to_o be_v continue_v or_o to_o tax_v of_o wage_n as_o be_v aforesaid_a or_o by_o the_o more_o part_n of_o they_o upon_o a_o corporal_a oath_n and_o affidavit_fw-la to_o be_v take_v and_o make_v open_o before_o the_o say_a justice_n upon_o the_o holy_a evangelist_n by_o some_o credyble_a person_n assess_v and_o tax_v in_o the_o book_n of_o subsedye_n of_o that_o county_n to_o the_o clear_a value_n of_o fyve_o pound_n at_o the_o jest_n or_o by_o such_o other_o person_n as_o the_o most_o part_n of_o such_o justice_n shall_v allow_v and_o accept_v to_o take_v such_o oath_n shall_v for_o such_o default_n or_o negligence_n servant_n workman_n or_o laborer_n shall_v wilful_o or_o malicious_o make_v any_o assault_n or_o affray_v upon_o his_o master_n mistress_n or_o dame_n or_o upon_o any_o other_o that_o shall_v at_o the_o time_n of_o such_o assault_n or_o affray_v have_v the_o charge_n or_o oversight_n of_o any_o such_o servant_n workman_n or_o laborer_n or_o of_o the_o work_n wherein_o the_o say_a servant_n workman_n or_o laborer_n be_v appoint_v or_o hyered_a to_o work_v and_o be_v thereof_o convict_v before_o any_o two_o of_o the_o justice_n mayor_n or_o head_n officer_n aforesaid_a where_o the_o say_a offence_n be_v commit_v or_o before_o either_o of_o the_o say_a lord_n precedent_n and_o council_n before_o remember_v by_o confession_n of_o the_o say_a servant_n workman_n or_o laborer_n or_o by_o the_o testimony_n witness_n and_o oath_n of_o two_o honest_a man_n that_o then_o every_o such_o offendor_n shall_v suffer_v imprisonment_n by_o the_o space_n of_o one_o hole_n year_n or_o less_o by_o the_o discression_n of_o two_o justice_n of_o peace_n if_o it_o be_v without_o a_o town_n corporate_a and_o if_o it_o be_v within_o any_o town_n corporate_a then_o by_o the_o discression_n of_o the_o shall_v require_v further_a punishment_n then_o to_o receive_v such_o other_o open_a punishment_n so_o as_o it_o extend_v not_o to_o life_n nor_o limb_n as_o the_o justice_n of_o peace_n in_o open_a session_n or_o the_o more_o part_n of_o they_o or_o the_o say_a mayor_n or_o head_n officer_n and_o six_o or_o four_o at_o the_o least_o of_o the_o discrete_a person_n of_o the_o same_o corporation_n before_o who_o the_o offence_n shall_v be_v examine_v shall_v think_v convenient_a for_o the_o quality_n of_o the_o say_a offence_n so_o do_v and_o commit_v provyde_v always_o and_o be_v it_o enact_v person_n or_o person_n to_o be_v a_o apprentice_n or_o servant_n or_o to_o be_v so_o instruct_v have_v land_n and_o tenemente_n or_o other_o hereditamente_n to_o the_o clear_a yearly_a value_n of_o three_o pound_n at_o the_o least_o of_o a_o estate_n of_o inheritance_n or_o frehold_v to_o be_v certify_v under_o the_o hand_n and_o seal_n of_o three_o justice_n of_o the_o peace_n of_o the_o three_o apprentice_n one_o other_o jorneyman_n upon_o pain_n for_o every_o default_n therein_o ten_o pound_n provide_v always_o that_o this_o act_n nor_o any_o thing_n therein_o contain_v shall_v not_o extend_v to_o prejudice_n or_o hinder_v any_o liberty_n heretofore_o grant_v by_o any_o act_n of_o parliament_n to_o or_o for_o the_o company_n and_o occupation_n of_o worsted_n maker_n and_o apprentice_n to_o commit_v he_o unto_o ward_n there_o to_o remain_v untyll_o he_o be_v content_v and_o will_v be_v bind_v to_o serve_v as_o a_o apprentice_n shall_v serve_v accord_v to_o the_o true_a intent_n and_o mean_v of_o this_o present_a act_n and_o if_o any_o such_o master_n shall_v mysuse_v or_o evil_n entreat_v his_o apprentice_n or_o that_o the_o say_a apprentice_n shall_v have_v any_o just_a cause_n to_o complain_v or_o the_o apprentice_n do_v not_o his_o duty_n to_o his_o master_n then_o the_o say_a master_n or_o apprentice_n be_v greve_v and_o have_v cause_n to_o complain_v shall_v repair_v unto_o one_o justice_n of_o peace_n within_o the_o say_a county_n or_o to_o the_o mayor_n or_o other_o head_n officer_n of_o the_o city_n town_n corporate_a market_n town_n or_o other_o place_n where_o the_o say_a master_n dwell_v who_o shall_v by_o his_o wysdome_n and_o discretion_n take_v such_o order_n and_o direction_n between_o the_o say_a master_n and_o his_o corporat_fw-la or_o market_n town_n to_o be_v before_o the_o justice_n of_o the_o say_a county_n or_o the_o mayor_n or_o head_n officer_n of_o the_o say_a town_n corporate_a or_o market_n town_n if_o the_o say_a master_n dwell_v within_o any_o such_o and_o upon_o his_o apparaunce_n &_o hear_v of_o the_o matter_n before_o the_o say_a justice_n or_o the_o say_a mayor_n or_o other_o head_n officer_n if_o it_o be_v think_v meet_a unto_o they_o to_o discharge_v the_o say_a apprentice_n of_o his_o apprenticehod_n that_o then_o the_o say_a justice_n or_o four_o of_o they_o at_o the_o least_o whereof_o one_o to_o be_v of_o they_o quorum_fw-la or_o the_o say_a mayor_n or_o other_o head_n officer_n with_o the_o consent_n of_o three_o other_o of_o his_o brethren_n or_o man_n of_o best_a reputation_n within_o the_o say_a city_n town_n corporate_a or_o market_n town_n shall_v have_v power_n by_o authority_n hereof_o in_o write_v under_o their_o hand_n and_o seal_n to_o pronounce_v and_o declare_v that_o they_o have_v discharge_v the_o

shall_v and_o may_v take_v have_v and_o retain_v apprentice_n there_o in_o such_o manner_n and_o form_n as_o they_o may_v lawful_o have_v do_v before_o the_o make_n of_o this_o statute_n this_o act_n or_o any_o thing_n therein_o contain_v to_o the_o contrary_a in_o any_o wise_n notwithstanding_o and_o be_v it_o also_o further_o enact_v that_o all_o indenture_n covenaunte_n promise_n and_o bargain_n of_o or_o for_o the_o have_v take_v or_o keep_a of_o any_o apprentice_n otherwise_o hereafter_o to_o be_v make_v or_o take_v then_o be_v by_o this_o statute_n lymit_v ordain_v and_o appoint_v shall_v be_v clere_o void_a in_o the_o law_n to_o all_o intentes_fw-la and_o purpose_n and_o that_o every_o person_n that_o shall_v from_o henceforth_o take_v or_o new_o retain_v any_o
