dispute_n that_o one_o trade_n though_o inseriour_a to_o another_o bear_v as_o great_a or_o large_a product_n at_o the_o year_n end_n and_o so_o be_v liable_a to_o pay_v more_o or_o equal_a it_o be_v therefore_o humble_o conceive_v to_o prevent_v that_o cavil_v that_o instead_o of_o tax_v every_o particular_a trade_n according_a to_o the_o merit_n of_o it_o every_o tradesman_n or_o shopkeeper_n to_o be_v tax_v for_o his_o sign_n according_a to_o the_o annual_a rent_n he_o pay_v for_o his_o house_n and_o shop_n or_o shop_n alone_o viz._n first_o that_o every_o tradesman_n or_o shopkeeper_n throughout_o london_n and_o westminster_n that_o pay_v a_o annual_a rent_n of_o forty_o pound_v a_o year_n or_o upward_o for_o his_o house_n and_o shop_n to_o pay_v for_o his_o sign_n one_o pound_n per_fw-la annum_fw-la second_o that_o every_o tradesman_n or_o shopkeeper_n that_o pay_v a_o annual_a rent_n of_o thirty_o pound_n to_o pay_v fifteen_o shilling_n per_fw-la annum_fw-la three_o that_o no_o sign_n but_o especial_o the_o former_a nor_o shop_n but_o warehouse_n only_o its_o requisite_a lest_o any_o objection_n shall_v arise_v that_o they_o pay_v according_a to_o the_o rate_n of_o the_o tax_n lay_v upon_o those_o who_o have_v shop_n and_o sign_n and_o further_o that_o in_o case_n this_o honourable_a house_n shall_v think_v fit_a to_o lay_v this_o tax_n it_o be_v probable_a that_o some_o person_n think_v to_o avoid_v pay_v will_v pull_v down_o their_o sign_n which_o if_o it_o shall_v so_o happen_v and_o true_a information_n give_v thereof_o to_o such_o officer_n or_o officer_n as_o shall_v be_v appoint_v to_o inspect_v the_o annual_a rent_n of_o such_o house_n and_o shop_n as_o be_v within_o their_o respective_a precinct_n such_o person_n or_o person_n to_o pay_v double_a the_o tax_n lay_v on_o they_o or_o otherwise_o to_o pay_v the_o same_o rate_n after_o such_o discovery_n with_o those_o that_o have_v sign_n as_o aforesaid_a and_o by_o reason_n his_o majesty_n extraordinary_a occasion_n require_v a_o speedy_a supply_n if_o this_o honourable_a house_n shall_v think_v fit_a the_o tax_n lay_v upon_o tavern_n inn_n etc._n etc._n may_v be_v gather_v quarterly_o by_o the_o officer_n of_o the_o excise_n and_o manage_v by_o the_o commissioner_n without_o any_o charge_n to_o the_o king_n and_o other_o officer_n appoint_v in_o every_o city_n and_o chief_a town_n to_o receive_v the_o tax_n lay_v upon_o tradesman_n or_o shopkeeper_n which_o in_o one_o year_n will_v bring_v in_o above_o half_a a_o million_o of_o money_n per_fw-la annum_fw-la to_o his_o majesty_n and_o may_v for_o the_o future_a disburden_v the_o land_n tax_n and_o as_o it_o will_v in_o a_o manner_n be_v insensible_o feel_v by_o those_o be_v lay_v upon_o so_o it_o may_v be_v continue_v as_o long_o as_o be_v needful_a for_o supply_v what_o be_v deficient_a in_o carry_v on_o the_o war_n against_o france_n all_o which_o be_v most_o humble_o submit_v to_o by_o j._n w._n by_o the_o book_n of_o the_o hearth-money_n it_o appear_v there_o be_v thirteen_o hundred_o thousand_o house_n by_o increase_n of_o building_n since_o above_o two_o hundred_o thousand_o house_n more_o in_o all_o 1500000_o house_n compute_v then_o two_o three_o of_o that_o sum_n publick-house_n shopkeeper_n and_o trader_n at_o ten_o shilling_n a_o sign_n per_fw-la annum_fw-la one_o with_o another_o subject_n to_o this_o payment_n will_v raise_v by_o a_o modest_a computation_n above_o half_a a_o million_o per_fw-la annum_fw-la ☞_o note_v that_o if_o it_o shall_v be_v object_v that_o a_o tax_n be_v late_o charge_v upon_o house_n for_o their_o window_n and_o so_o may_v be_v think_v too_o severe_a to_o lay_v a_o double_a tax_n on_o they_o for_o their_o sign_n it_o be_v humble_o answer_v that_o what_o have_v be_v propose_v be_v not_o intend_v for_o a_o further_a tax_n upon_o house_n but_o by_o take_v a_o account_n of_o the_o annual_a rent_n that_o be_v pay_v for_o they_o a_o better_a estimate_n may_v be_v give_v of_o the_o value_n of_o that_o trade_n for_o it_o be_v to_o be_v suppose_v by_o how_o much_o the_o more_o rent_n they_o sit_v at_o the_o great_a the_o quality_n and_o income_n of_o the_o trade_n must_v be_v so_o that_o the_o trade_n shop_n keeper_n for_o the_o sign_n he_o put_v forth_o be_v chief_o mean_v by_o what_o be_v here_o offer_v
