such_o person_n have_v most_o common_o dwell_v by_o the_o space_n of_o one_o whole_a year_n and_o two_o alderman_n or_o two_o other_o discrete_a burgess_n of_o the_o same_o city_n borough_n or_o town_n corporate_a if_o there_o be_v no_o alderman_n under_o their_o hand_n and_o seal_n nor_o be_v retain_v with_o any_o person_n in_o husbandry_n or_o in_o any_o of_o the_o aforesaid_a art_n and_o science_n accord_v to_o this_o statute_n nor_o lawful_o retain_v in_o any_o other_o art_n or_o science_n nor_o be_v lawful_o retain_v in_o household_n or_o in_o any_o office_n with_o any_o noble_a man_n gentleman_n or_o other_o according_a to_o the_o law_n of_o this_o realm_n nor_o have_v a_o convenient_a ferme_fw-fr or_o other_o hold_v in_o tyllage_n whereupon_o he_o may_v employ_v his_o labour_n shall_v during_o the_o time_n that_o he_o or_o they_o shall_v so_o be_v unmarried_a or_o under_o the_o say_a age_n of_o xxx_o year_n upon_o request_n make_v by_o any_o person_n use_v the_o art_n or_o mystery_n wherein_o the_o say_a person_n so_o require_v have_v be_v exercise_v as_o be_v aforesaid_a be_v retain_v and_o shall_v not_o refuse_v to_o serve_v accord_v to_o the_o tenor_n of_o this_o statute_n upon_o the_o pain_n and_o penalty_n hereafter_o mention_v and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v that_o no_o person_n which_o shall_v retain_v any_o servant_n shall_v put_v away_o he_o or_o her_o say_a servant_n and_o that_o no_o person_n retain_v accord_v to_o this_o statute_n shall_v depart_v from_o his_o master_n master_n or_o dame_n before_o the_o end_n of_o he_o or_o her_o term_n upon_o the_o pain_n hereafter_o mention_v unless_o it_o be_v for_o some_o reasonable_a and_o sufficient_a cause_n or_o matter_n to_o be_v allow_v before_o two_o justice_n of_o peace_n or_o one_o at_o the_o least_o within_o the_o say_a county_n or_o before_o the_o mayor_n or_o other_o chief_a officer_n of_o the_o city_n borough_n or_o town_n corporate_a wherein_o the_o say_a master_n master_n or_o dame_n inhabit_v to_o who_o any_o of_o the_o party_n greve_v shall_v complain_v which_o say_v justice_n or_o justice_n mayor_n or_o chief_a office_n shall_v have_v &_o take_v upon_o they_o or_o he_o the_o hear_n and_o order_v of_o the_o matter_n betwixt_o the_o say_a master_n master_n or_o dame_n &_o servant_n accord_v to_o the_o equity_n of_o the_o cause_n and_o that_o no_o such_o master_n master_n or_o dame_n shall_v put_v away_o any_o such_o servant_n at_o the_o end_n of_o his_o term_n or_o that_o any_o such_o servant_n shall_v depart_v from_o his_o say_a master_n master_n or_o dame_n at_o the_o end_n of_o his_o term_n without_o one_o quarter_n warn_v give_v before_o the_o end_n of_o his_o say_a term_n either_o by_o the_o say_a master_n master_n or_o dame_n or_o servant_n the_o one_o to_o the_o other_o upon_o the_o pain_n hereafter_o ensue_v and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v by_o thaucthoritie_n aforesaid_a that_o every_o person_n between_o the_o age_n of_o xii_o year_n &_o the_o age_n of_o threescore_o year_n not_o be_v lawful_o retain_v nor_o apprentice_n with_o any_o fysherman_n or_o mariner_n haunt_v the_o sea_n nor_o be_v in_o service_n with_o any_o kyddyer_n or_o carrier_n of_o any_o corn_n grain_n or_o meal_n for_o provision_n of_o the_o city_n of_o london_n nor_o with_o any_o husbandman_n in_o husbandrye_a nor_o in_o any_o city_n town_n corporate_a or_o market_n town_n in_o any_o of_o the_o art_n or_o science_n limit_v or_o appoint_v by_o this_o estatute_n to_o have_v or_o take_v apprentice_n nor_o be_v retain_v by_o the_o year_n or_o half_o the_o year_n at_o the_o least_o for_o the_o dyg_n seek_v find_a get_v melt_v fyne_a work_a try_v make_v of_o any_o silver_n tin_n lead_v iron_n copper_n stone_n sea_n coal_n stone_n coal_n moor_n coal_n or_o cherk_n coal_n nor_o be_v occupy_v in_o or_o about_o y_z e_z make_v of_o any_o glass_n nor_o be_v a_o gentleman_n bear_v nor_o be_v a_o student_n or_o scholar_n in_o any_o of_o the_o university_n or_o in_o any_o school_n nor_o have_v land_n tenement_n rent_n or_o hereditamente_n for_o term_v of_o life_n or_o of_o one_o estate_n of_o inheritance_n of_o the_o clear_a yearly_a value_n of_o xl.s_n nor_o be_v worth_a in_o good_n and_o cattle_n to_o the_o value_n of_o x.li_fw-la nor_o have_v a_o father_n or_o mother_n then_o lyve_n or_o other_o auncestour_n who_o heir_n apparent_a he_o be_v then_o have_v land_n tenemente_n or_o hereditament_n of_o the_o yearly_a value_n of_o x.li_fw-la or_o above_o or_o good_n or_o cattle_n of_o the_o value_n of_o xl_o li._n nor_o be_v a_o necessary_a or_o convenient_a officer_n or_o servant_n lawful_o retain_v as_o be_v aforesaid_a nor_o have_v a_o convenient_a ferme_fw-fr or_o hold_v whereupon_o he_o may_v or_o shall_v employ_v his_o labour_n nor_o be_v otherwise_o lawful_o retain_v according_a to_o the_o true_a meaning_n of_o this_o statute_n shall_v after_o the_o foresay_a last_o day_n of_o september_n now_o next_o ensue_v by_o virtue_n of_o this_o estatute_n be_v compel_v to_o be_v retain_v to_o serve_v in_o husbandrye_a by_o the_o year_n with_o any_o person_n that_o keep_v husbandry_n &_o will_v require_v any_o such_o person_n so_o to_o serve_v within_o the_o same_o shire_n where_o he_o shall_v be_v so_o require_v and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n of_o this_o present_a parliament_n that_o if_o any_o person_n after_o he_o have_v retain_v any_o servant_n shall_v put_v away_o the_o
same_o servant_n before_o the_o end_n of_o his_o term_n unless_o it_o be_v for_o some_o reasonable_a and_o sufficient_a cause_n to_o be_v allow_v as_o be_v aforesaid_a or_o if_o any_o such_o master_n master_n or_o dame_n shall_v put_v away_o any_o such_o servant_n at_o the_o end_n of_o his_o term_n without_o one_o quarter_n warn_v give_v before_o the_o say_a end_n as_o be_v above_o remember_v that_o then_o every_o such_o master_n master_n or_o dame_n so_o offend_v unless_o he_o or_o they_o be_v able_a to_o prove_v by_o two_o sufficient_a witness_n such_o reasonable_a &_o sufficient_a cause_n of_o put_v away_o of_o their_o servant_n or_o servant_n during_o their_o term_n or_o a_o quarter_n warning_n give_v afore_o the_o end_n of_o the_o say_a term_n as_o be_v beforesaid_a before_o the_o justice_n of_o oyer_n &_o terminer_n justice_n of_o assize_n justice_n of_o the_o peace_n in_o the_o quarter_n session_n or_o before_o the_o mayor_n or_o other_o head_n officer_n of_o any_o city_n borough_n or_o town_n corporate_a &_o two_o alderman_n or_o two_o other_o discrete_a burgese_n of_o the_o same_o city_n borough_n or_o town_n corporate_a if_o there_o be_v no_o alderman_n or_o before_o the_o lord_n precedent_n &_o counsel_n establish_v in_o the_o march_n of_o wales_n or_o before_o the_o lord_n precedent_n and_o counsel_n for_o the_o time_n be_v establish_v in_o the_o north_n party_n shall_v forfeit_v the_o sum_n of_o xl.s._n and_o if_o any_o servant_n retain_v according_a to_o the_o form_n of_o this_o estatute_n depart_v from_o his_o master_n master_n or_o dame_n service_n before_o the_o end_n of_o his_o term_n unless_o it_o be_v for_o some_o reasonable_a &_o sufficient_a cause_n to_o be_v allow_v as_o be_v aforesaid_a or_o if_o any_o servant_n at_o the_o end_n of_o his_o term_n depart_v from_o his_o say_a master_n master_n or_o dame_n service_n without_o one_o quarter_n warn_v give_fw-ge before_o the_o end_n of_o his_o say_a term_n in_o form_n aforesaid_a &_o before_o ii_o lawful_a witness_n or_o if_o any_o person_n or_o person_n compelable_a &_o bind_a to_o be_v retain_v &_o to_o serve_v in_o husbandry_n or_o in_o any_o other_o the_o art_n science_n or_o mystery_n above_o remember_v by_o the_o year_n or_o otherwise_o do_v upon_o request_n make_v refuse_v to_o serve_v for_o the_o wage_n y_o it_o shall_v be_v limit_v rate_v &_o appoint_v according_a to_o y_z e_z form_n of_o this_o statute_n or_o promise_n or_o covenaunt_n to_o serve_v &_o do_v not_o serve_v according_a to_o y_z e_z tenor_n of_o y_fw-fr e_o same_o that_o they_o every_o servant_n so_o depart_v away_o &_o every_o person_n so_o refuse_v to_o serve_v for_o such_o wage_n upon_o complaint_n thereof_o make_v by_o the_o master_n master_n or_o dame_n of_o y_fw-fr e_o say_v servant_n or_o by_o the_o party_n to_o or_o with_o who_o you_o e_o say_v refusal_n be_v make_v or_o promise_n not_o keep_v to_o ii_o justice_n of_o the_o peace_n of_o the_o county_n or_o to_o y_fw-fr e_o maior_n or_o other_o head_n officer_n of_o the_o city_n borough_n town_n corporate_a &_o ii_o alderman_n or_o ii_o other_o discrete_a burgess_n of_o y_fw-fr e_o same_o city_n borough_n or_o town_n corporat_fw-la if_o there_o be_v no_o alderman_n where_o the_o say_a master_n master_n or_o dame_n or_o the_o say_a party_n to_o or_o with_o who_o you_o e_o say_v refusal_n be_v make_v &_o promise_n not_o keep_v dwell_v or_o to_o either_o of_o the_o say_a lord_n president_n &_o counsel_n of_o wales_n &_o the_o north_n the_o say_a justice_n lord_n president_n &_o counsel_n &_o also_o the_o say_a major_n or_o other_o head_n officer_n &_o other_o person_n of_o city_n boroughe_n or_o town_n corporate_a or_o any_o of_o they_o as_o be_v aforesaid_a shall_v have_v power_n by_o force_n of_o this_o statute_n to_o hear_v &_o examine_v the_o matter_n and_o find_v the_o say_a servant_n or_o the_o say_a party_n so_o refuse_v faulty_a in_o the_o premise_n upon_o such_o proof_n &_o good_a matter_n as_o to_o their_o discression_n shall_v be_v think_v sufficient_a to_o commit_v he_o or_o they_o to_o ward_v there_o to_o remain_v without_o bail_n or_o maynpryse_n untyll_o the_o say_a servant_n or_o party_n so_o offend_v shall_v be_v bind_v to_o the_o party_n to_o who_o the_o offence_n shall_v be_v make_v to_o serve_v and_o continue_v with_o he_o for_o the_o wage_n that_o then_o shall_v be_v limit_v and_o appoint_v according_a to_o the_o tenor_n &_o form_n of_o this_o estatute_n and_o to_o be_v discharge_v upon_o his_o delyvery_n without_o pay_v any_o fee_n to_o the_o jailor_n where_o he_o or_o they_o shall_v be_v so_o imprison_v and_o be_v it_o likewise_o enact_v by_o thaucthoritie_n aforesaid_a that_o none_o of_o the_o say_v retain_v person_n in_o husbandry_n or_o in_o any_o the_o art_n or_o science_n above_o remember_v after_o the_o time_n of_o his_o reteynour_n expire_v shall_v depart_v forth_o of_o one_o city_n town_n or_o parish_n to_o another_o nor_o out_o of_o the_o lathe_n rape_n wapentake_n or_o hundred_o nor_o out_o of_o the_o county_n or_o shire_n where_o he_o last_o serve_v to_o serve_v in_o any_o other_o city_n town_n corporate_a lethe_n rape_n wapentake_n hundred_o shire_n or_o county_n unless_o he_o have_v a_o testimonial_a under_o the_o seal_n of_o the_o say_a city_n or_o town_n corporate_a or_o of_o the_o constable_n or_o constable_n or_o other_o head_n officer_n or_o officer_n and_o of_o two_o other_o honest_a householder_n of_o the_o city_n town_n or_o paryshe_v where_o he_o last_o serve_v declare_v his_o lawful_a departure_n and_o the_o name_n of_o the_o shire_n and_o place_n where_o he_o dwell_v last_o before_o his_o departure_n accord_v to_o the_o form_n hereafter_o express_v in_o this_o act_n which_o certificate_n or_o testimonial_a shall_v be_v write_v and_o delyver_v unto_o the_o say_a servant_n and_o also_o register_v by_o the_o parson_n vicar_n or_o curate_n of_o the_o paryshe_v where_o such_o master_n master_n or_o dame_n do_v or_o shall_v dwell_v take_v for_o the_o do_v thereof_o ii.d._a and_o not_o above_o and_o the_o form_n thereof_o shall_v be_v as_o follow_v memorand_n that_o a_o b._n late_a servant_n to_o c_o d._n of_o e._n husbandman_n or_o taillour_n &c_n &c_n in_o the_o say_a county_n be_v license_v to_o depart_v from_o his_o say_a master_n and_o be_v at_o his_o liberty_n to_o serve_v else_o where_o accord_v to_o the_o statute_n in_o that_o case_n make_v and_o provide_v in_o witness_v whereof_o &c_n &c_n date_a the_o day_n month_n year_n &_o place_n &c_n &c_n of_o the_o make_v thereof_o and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v by_o thaucthoritie_n aforesaid_a that_o no_o person_n or_o person_n that_o shall_v depart_v out_o of_o service_n shall_v be_v retain_v or_o accept_v into_o any_o other_o service_n without_o show_v before_o his_o reteinor_n such_o testimonial_a as_o be_v above_o remember_v to_o the_o chief_a officer_n of_o the_o town_n corporate_a and_o in_o every_o other_o town_n &_o place_n to_o the_o constable_n curate_z churchwarden_n or_o other_o head_n officer_n of_o the_o same_o where_o he_o shall_v be_v retain_v to_o serve_v upon_o the_o pain_n that_o every_o such_o servant_n so_o depart_v without_o such_o certificate_n or_o testimonial_n shall_v be_v imprison_v untyll_o he_o procure_v a_o testimonial_a or_o certificate_n the_o which_o if_o he_o can_v do_v within_o the_o space_n of_o xxi_o day_n next_o after_o the_o first_o day_n of_o his_o imprisonment_n then_o the_o say_a person_n to_o be_v whip_v &_o use_v as_o a_o vacanbond_n accord_v to_o y_z e_z law_n in_o such_o case_n provide_v and_o that_o every_o person_n retain_v any_o such_o servant_n without_o show_v such_o testimonyall_n of_o certificate_n as_o be_v aforesaid_a shall_v forfeit_v for_o everye_o such_o offence_n fyve_o pound_n and_o if_o any_o such_o person_n shall_v be_v take_v with_o any_o counterfeit_n or_o forge_a testimonial_a then_o to_o be_v whip_v as_o a_o vagabound_n and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v by_o the_o auctoritye_n aforesaid_a that_o all_o artificer_n and_o laborer_n be_v hire_v for_o wage_n by_o the_o day_n or_o week_n shall_v betwixt_o the_o mid_n of_o the_o month_n of_o march_n and_o september_n be_v and_o continue_v at_o their_o work_n at_o or_o before_o fyve_o of_o the_o cloak_n in_o the_o morning_n and_o continue_v at_o work_n and_o not_o depart_v untyll_o betwixt_o seven_o and_o eight_o of_o the_o clock_n at_o night_n except_o it_o be_v in_o the_o time_n of_o breakfast_n dinner_n or_o drynk_v the_o which_o time_n at_o the_o most_o shall_v not_o exceed_v above_o two_o hour_n and_o a_o half_a in_o the_o day_n that_o be_v to_o say_v at_o every_o drynk_n one_o half_a hour_n for_o his_o dinner_n one_o hour_n and_o for_o his_o sleep_v when_o he_o be_v allow_v to_o sleep_v the_o which_o be_v from_o
the_o town_n or_o place_n that_o he_o or_o they_o come_v from_o testifi_v the_o same_o for_o the_o which_o he_o shall_v pay_v not_o above_o one_o penny_n other_o than_o such_o person_n as_o shall_v be_v retain_v in_o service_n accord_v to_o the_o form_n of_o this_o estatute_n may_v repair_v and_o resort_v in_o harvest_n of_o hey_n or_o corn_n from_o the_o country_n wherein_o their_o dwelling_n place_n be_v into_o any_o other_o place_n or_o county_n for_o the_o only_o mow_v reap_a and_o get_v of_o hey_n corn_n and_o grain_n and_o for_o the_o only_a work_n of_o harvest_n work_v as_o they_o may_v have_v do_v before_o the_o make_n of_o this_o estatute_n any_o thing_n herein_o contain_v to_o the_o contrary_a notwithstanding_o and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v by_o the_o auctoritye_n aforesaid_a that_o two_o justice_n of_o peace_n y_fw-fr e_o maior_n or_o other_o head_n officer_n of_o any_o city_n borough_n or_o town_n corporate_a &_o two_o alderman_n or_o two_o other_o discrete_a burgese_n of_o the_o same_o city_n borough_n or_o town_n corporate_a if_o there_o be_v no_o alderman_n shall_v and_o may_v by_o virtue_n hereof_o appoint_v any_o such_o woman_n as_o be_v of_o the_o age_n of_o xii_o year_n and_o under_o the_o age_n of_o xl_o year_n and_o unmary_v and_o forth_o of_o service_n as_o they_o shall_v think_v meet_a to_o serve_v to_o be_v retain_v or_o serve_v by_o the_o year_n or_o by_o the_o week_n or_o day_n for_o such_o wage_n and_o in_o such_o reasonable_a sort_n and_o manner_n as_o they_o shall_v think_v meet_a and_o if_o any_o such_o woman_n shall_v refuse_v so_o to_o serve_v than_o it_o shall_v be_v lawful_a for_o the_o say_a justice_n of_o peace_n mayor_n or_o head_n officer_n to_o commit_v such_o woman_n to_o ward_n until_o she_o shall_v be_v bind_v to_o serve_v as_o be_v aforesaid_a and_o for_o the_o better_a advauncement_n of_o husbandry_n and_o tillage_n and_o to_o the_o intent_n that_o such_o as_o be_v fit_a to_o be_v make_v apprentice_n to_o husbandry_n may_v be_v bind_v thereunto_o be_v it_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n of_o this_o present_a parliament_n that_o every_o person_n be_v a_o householder_n and_o have_v and_o use_v half_o a_o ploughe_a land_n at_o the_o least_o in_o tillage_n may_v have_v and_o receive_v as_o a_o apprentice_n any_o person_n above_o the_o age_n of_o ten_o year_n and_o under_o the_o age_n of_o xviii_o year_n to_o serve_v in_o husbandry_n until_o his_o age_n of_o xxi_o year_n at_o the_o least_o or_o until_o the_o age_n of_o xxiiii_o year_n as_o the_o party_n can_v agree_v and_o the_o say_a reteynour_n and_o take_v of_o a_o apprentice_n to_o be_v make_v and_o do_v by_o indenture_n and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v that_o every_o person_n be_v a_o householder_n and_o xxiiii_o year_n old_a at_o the_o least_o dwell_v or_o inhabit_v or_o which_o shall_v dwell_v and_o inhabit_v in_o any_o city_n or_o town_n corporate_a and_o use_v and_o exercise_v any_o art_n mystery_n or_o manuel_n occupation_n there_o shall_v and_o may_v after_o the_o feast_n of_o saint_n john_n baptist_n next_o come_n during_o the_o time_n that_o he_o shall_v so_o dwell_v or_o inhabit_v in_o any_o such_o city_n or_o town_n corporate_a and_o use_v and_o exercise_v any_o such_o art_n mystery_n or_o manuel_n occupation_n have_v and_o retain_v the_o son_n of_o any_o free_a man_n not_o occupy_v husbandry_n nor_o be_v a_o labourer_n &_o inhabit_v in_o the_o same_o or_o in_o any_o other_o city_n or_o town_n that_o now_o be_v or_o hereafter_o shall_v be_v and_o continue_v incorporate_a to_o serve_v and_o be_v bind_v as_o a_o apprentice_n after_o the_o custom_n and_o order_n of_o the_o city_n of_o london_n for_o seven_o year_n at_o the_o least_o so_o as_o the_o term_n and_o year_n of_o such_o apprentice_n do_v not_o expire_v or_o determine_v afore_o such_o apprentice_n shall_v be_v of_o the_o age_n of_o xxiiii_o year_n at_o the_o jest_n provyde_v always_o and_o be_v it_o enact_v that_o it_o shall_v not_o be_v lawful_a to_o any_o person_n dwelling_n in_o any_o city_n or_o town_n corporate_a use_v or_o exercise_v any_o of_o the_o mystery_n or_o craft_n of_o a_o merchant_n trafficquinge_v by_o traffic_n or_o trade_n into_o any_o the_o part_n beyond_o the_o sea_n mercer_n draper_n goldsmyth_n irenmonger_n inbroderer_n or_o clothear_v that_o do_v or_o shall_v put_v clothe_v to_o make_v and_o sale_n to_o take_v any_o apprentice_n or_o servant_n to_o be_v instruct_v or_o teach_v in_o any_o of_o the_o art_n occupation_n craft_n or_o mystery_n which_o they_o or_o any_o of_o they_o do_v use_v or_o exercise_n except_o such_o servant_n or_o apprentice_n be_v his_o son_n or_o else_o that_o the_o father_n or_o mother_n of_o such_o apprentice_n or_o servant_n shall_v have_v at_o the_o time_n of_o take_v of_o such_o apprentice_n or_o servant_n land_n tenement_n or_o other_o hereditamente_n of_o the_o clear_a yearly_a value_n of_o xl.s_n of_o one_o estate_n of_o inheritance_n or_o free_a hold_n at_o the_o jest_n to_o be_v certify_v under_o the_o hand_n and_o seal_n of_o three_o justice_n of_o the_o peace_n of_o the_o shire_n or_o shire_n where_o the_o say_v land_n tenemente_n or_o other_o hereditamente_n do_v or_o shall_v lie_v to_o the_o mayor_n bailyf_n or_o other_o head_n officer_n of_o such_o city_n or_o town_n corporate_a and_o to_o be_v enrowl_v among_o the_o record_n there_o and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v that_o from_o and_o after_o the_o say_a feast_n of_o saint_n john_n the_o baptist_n next_o it_o shall_v be_v lawful_a to_o every_o person_n be_v a_o householder_n and_o xxiiii_o year_n old_a at_o the_o least_o and_o not_o occupy_v husbandry_n nor_o be_v a_o laborer_n dwellinge_a or_o inhabit_v or_o that_o shall_v hereafter_o dwell_v or_o inhabit_v in_o any_o town_n not_o be_v incorporate_a that_o now_o be_v or_o hereafter_o shall_v be_v a_o market_n town_n so_o long_o as_o the_o same_o shall_v be_v weke_o use_v &_o keep_v as_o a_o market_n town_n and_o use_v or_o exercise_v any_o art_n mysterye_n or_o manuel_n occupation_n during_o the_o time_n of_o his_o abode_n there_o and_o so_o use_v and_o exercise_v such_o art_n mystery_n or_o manuel_n occupation_n as_o aforesaid_a to_o have_v in_o like_a manner_n to_o apprentice_n or_o apprentice_n the_o child_n or_o child_n of_o any_o other_o
