science_n accord_v to_o this_o statute_n nor_o lawful_o retain_v in_o any_o other_o art_n or_o science_n nor_o be_v lawful_o retain_v in_o household_n or_o in_o any_o office_n with_o any_o noble_a man_n gentleman_n or_o other_o according_a to_o the_o law_n of_o this_o realm_n nor_o have_v a_o convenient_a ferme_fw-fr or_o other_o hold_v in_o tyllage_n whereupon_o he_o may_v employ_v his_o labour_n shall_v during_o the_o time_n that_o he_o or_o they_o shall_v so_o be_v unmarried_a or_o under_o the_o say_a age_n of_o xxx_o year_n upon_o request_n make_v by_o any_o person_n use_v the_o art_n or_o mystery_n wherein_o the_o say_a person_n so_o require_v have_v be_v exercise_v as_o be_v aforesaid_a be_v retain_v and_o shall_v not_o refuse_v to_o serve_v accord_v to_o the_o tenor_n of_o this_o statute_n upon_o the_o pain_n and_o penalty_n hereafter_o mention_v and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v that_o no_o person_n which_o shall_v retain_v any_o servant_n shall_v put_v away_o he_o or_o her_o say_a servant_n and_o that_o no_o person_n retain_v accord_v to_o this_o statute_n shall_v depart_v from_o his_o master_n master_n or_o dame_n before_o the_o end_n of_o he_o or_o her_o term_n upon_o the_o pain_n hereafter_o mention_v unless_o it_o be_v for_o some_o reasonable_a and_o sufficient_a cause_n or_o matter_n to_o be_v allow_v before_o two_o justice_n of_o peace_n or_o one_o at_o the_o least_o within_o the_o say_a county_n or_o before_o the_o mayor_n or_o other_o chief_a officer_n of_o the_o city_n borough_n or_o town_n corporate_a wherein_o the_o say_a master_n the_o university_n or_o in_o any_o school_n nor_o have_v land_n tenement_n rent_n or_o hereditamente_n for_o term_v of_o life_n or_o of_o one_o estate_n of_o inheritance_n of_o the_o clear_a yearly_a value_n of_o xl.s_n nor_o be_v worth_a in_o good_n and_o cattle_n to_o the_o value_n of_o x.li_fw-la nor_o have_v a_o father_n or_o mother_n then_o lyve_n or_o other_o auncestour_n who_o heir_n apparent_a he_o be_v then_o have_v land_n tenemente_n or_o hereditament_n of_o the_o yearly_a value_n of_o x.li_fw-la or_o above_o or_o good_n or_o cattle_n of_o the_o value_n of_o xl_o li._n nor_o be_v a_o necessary_a or_o convenient_a officer_n or_o servant_n lawful_o retain_v as_o be_v aforesaid_a nor_o have_v a_o convenient_a ferme_fw-fr or_o hold_v whereupon_o he_o may_v or_o shall_v employ_v his_o labour_n nor_o be_v otherwise_o lawful_o retain_v according_a to_o the_o true_a meaning_n of_o this_o statute_n shall_v after_o the_o foresay_a last_o day_n of_o september_n now_o next_o ensue_v by_o virtue_n of_o this_o estatute_n be_v compel_v to_o be_v retain_v to_o serve_v in_o husbandrye_a by_o the_o year_n with_o any_o person_n that_o keep_v husbandry_n &_o will_v require_v any_o such_o person_n so_o to_o serve_v within_o the_o same_o shire_n where_o he_o shall_v be_v so_o require_v and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n of_o this_o present_a parliament_n that_o if_o any_o person_n after_o he_o have_v retain_v any_o servant_n shall_v put_v away_o the_o
within_o the_o lymitte_v of_o the_o watch_n of_o the_o say_a town_n may_v use_v and_o exercise_v such_o art_n mystery_n and_o occupation_n and_o take_v and_o use_v apprentice_n and_o servant_n in_o in_o such_o case_n and_o condition_n as_o any_o manner_n other_o amerciament_n fyne_n issue_n or_o forfeiture_n have_v be_v use_v to_o be_v levy_v and_o employ_v within_o the_o same_o city_n or_o town_n corporate_a by_o reason_n of_o any_o grant_n or_o charter_n from_o the_o queen_n majesty_n that_o now_o be_v or_o of_o any_o her_o grace_n noble_a progenitour_n make_v and_o grant_v to_o the_o same_o city_n borowe_n or_o town_n corporate_a any_o thing_n or_o clause_n before_o mention_v and_o express_v in_o this_o act_n to_o the_o contrary_a notwithstanding_o provide_v always_o that_o this_o act_n or_o any_o thing_n therein_o contain_v shall_v not_o extend_v to_o any_o lawful_a reteyninge_n or_o covenaunte_n have_v or_o make_v before_o the_o make_n of_o this_o act_n but_o that_o all_o and_o every_o the_o party_n to_o such_o reteyninge_n or_o covenaunte_n shall_v and_o may_v have_v the_o same_o and_o like_a avantage_n of_o such_o reteyninge_n &_o covenaunte_n and_o of_o the_o statute_n heretofore_o in_o that_o behalf_n provide_v as_o if_o this_o act_n have_v never_o be_v have_v nor_o make_v any_o clause_n of_o repeal_n or_o other_o matter_n whatsoever_o in_o this_o act_n to_o the_o contrary_a in_o any_o wise_n notwithstanding_o and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n aforesaid_a that_o if_o any_o servant_n or_o apprentice_n of_o husbandry_n or_o of_o aforesaid_a that_o two_o justice_n of_o peace_n y_fw-fr e_o maior_n or_o other_o head_n officer_n of_o any_o city_n borough_n or_o town_n corporate_a &_o two_o alderman_n or_o two_o other_o discrete_a burgese_n of_o the_o same_o city_n borough_n or_o town_n corporate_a if_o there_o be_v no_o alderman_n shall_v and_o may_v by_o virtue_n hereof_o appoint_v any_o such_o woman_n as_o be_v of_o the_o age_n of_o xii_o year_n and_o under_o the_o age_n of_o xl_o year_n and_o unmary_v and_o forth_o of_o service_n as_o they_o shall_v think_v meet_a to_o serve_v to_o be_v retain_v or_o serve_v by_o the_o year_n or_o by_o the_o week_n or_o day_n for_o such_o wage_n and_o in_o such_o reasonable_a sort_n and_o manner_n as_o they_o shall_v think_v meet_a and_o if_o any_o such_o woman_n shall_v refuse_v so_o to_o serve_v than_o it_o shall_v be_v lawful_a for_o the_o say_a justice_n of_o peace_n mayor_n or_o head_n officer_n to_o commit_v such_o woman_n to_o ward_n until_o she_o shall_v be_v apprentice_n to_o husbandry_n may_v be_v bind_v thereunto_o be_v it_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n of_o this_o present_a parliament_n that_o every_o person_n be_v a_o householder_n and_o have_v and_o use_v half_o a_o ploughe_a land_n at_o the_o least_o in_o tillage_n may_v have_v and_o receive_v as_o a_o apprentice_n any_o person_n above_o the_o age_n of_o ten_o year_n and_o under_o the_o age_n of_o xviii_o year_n to_o serve_v in_o husbandry_n until_o his_o age_n of_o xxi_o year_n at_o the_o least_o or_o until_o the_o age_n of_o xxiiii_o year_n as_o the_o party_n can_v agree_v and_o the_o say_a reteynour_n and_o take_v of_o a_o apprentice_n to_o be_v make_v and_o do_v by_o indenture_n and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v that_o every_o person_n be_v a_o householder_n and_o xxiiii_o year_n old_a at_o the_o least_o dwell_v or_o inhabit_v or_o which_o shall_v dwell_v and_o inhabit_v in_o any_o city_n or_o town_n corporate_a and_o use_v and_o exercise_v any_o art_n mystery_n or_o manuel_n occupation_n there_o shall_v and_o may_v after_o the_o feast_n of_o saint_n john_n baptist_n next_o come_n during_o the_o time_n that_o he_o shall_v so_o dwell_v or_o inhabit_v in_o any_o such_o city_n or_o town_n corporate_a and_o use_v and_o exercise_v any_o such_o art_n mystery_n or_o manuel_n occupation_n have_v and_o retain_v the_o son_n of_o any_o free_a man_n not_o occupy_v husbandry_n nor_o be_v a_o labourer_n &_o inhabit_v in_o the_o same_o or_o in_o any_o other_o city_n or_o town_n that_o now_o be_v or_o hereafter_o shall_v be_v and_o continue_v incorporate_a to_o serve_v and_o be_v bind_v as_o a_o apprentice_n after_o the_o custom_n and_o order_n of_o the_o city_n of_o london_n for_o seven_o year_n at_o the_o least_o so_o as_o the_o term_n and_o year_n of_o such_o apprentice_n do_v not_o expire_v or_o determine_v afore_o such_o apprentice_n shall_v be_v of_o the_o age_n of_o xxiiii_o year_n at_o the_o jest_n provyde_v always_o and_o be_v it_o enact_v that_o it_o shall_v not_o be_v lawful_a to_o any_o person_n dwelling_n in_o any_o city_n or_o town_n corporate_a use_v or_o exercise_v any_o of_o the_o mystery_n or_o craft_n of_o a_o merchant_n trafficquinge_v by_o traffic_n or_o trade_n into_o any_o the_o part_n beyond_o the_o sea_n mercer_n draper_n goldsmyth_n irenmonger_n inbroderer_n or_o clothear_v that_o do_v or_o shall_v put_v any_o of_o they_o do_v use_v or_o exercise_n except_o such_o servant_n or_o apprentice_n be_v his_o son_n or_o else_o that_o the_o father_n or_o mother_n of_o such_o apprentice_n or_o servant_n shall_v have_v at_o the_o time_n of_o take_v of_o such_o apprentice_n or_o servant_n land_n tenement_n or_o other_o hereditamente_n of_o the_o clear_a yearly_a value_n of_o xl.s_n of_o one_o estate_n of_o inheritance_n or_o free_a hold_n at_o the_o jest_n to_o be_v certify_v under_o the_o hand_n and_o seal_n of_o three_o justice_n of_o the_o peace_n of_o the_o shire_n or_o shire_n where_o the_o artificer_n or_o artificer_n not_o occupy_v husbandry_n nor_o be_v laborer_n which_o now_o do_v or_o hereafter_o shall_v inhabit_v or_o dwell_v in_o the_o same_o or_o in_o any_o other_o such_o market_n town_n within_o the_o same_o shire_n to_o serve_v as_o apprentice_n or_o apprentice_n as_o be_v aforesaid_a to_o any_o such_o art_n mystery_n or_o manuel_n occupation_n as_o have_v be_v usual_o exercise_v in_o any_o such_o market_n town_n where_o such_o apprentice_n shall_v be_v bind_v in_o manner_n and_o form_n above_o say_v provide_v always_o and_o be_v it_o enact_v that_o it_o huswyfe_n or_o household_n cloth_n only_o and_o none_o other_o cloth_n fuller_n otherwise_o call_v tucker_n or_o walker_n burner_n of_o ore_n and_o woade_a ash_n thatcher_n or_o shingler_n wheresoever_o he_o or_o they_o shall_v dwell_v or_o inhabit_v to_o have_v or_o receive_v the_o son_n of_o any_o person_n as_o apprentice_n in_o manner_n and_o form_n aforesaid_a to_o be_v teach_v and_o instruct_v in_o these_o occupation_n only_o and_o in_o none_o other_o albeit_o the_o father_n or_o mother_n of_o any_o such_o apprentice_n have_v not_o any_o land_n tenemente_n nor_o hereditamente_n and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n aforesaid_a that_o after_o the_o first_o day_n of_o may_n next_o come_n it_o shall_v not_o be_v lawful_a to_o any_o person_n or_o person_n other_o than_o such_o as_o now_o do_v lawful_o use_v or_o exercise_v any_o art_n mystery_n or_o manuel_n occupation_n to_o set_v up_o occupy_v use_n or_o exercise_v any_o craft_n mystery_n or_o occupation_n now_o use_v or_o occupy_v within_o the_o realm_n of_o england_n or_o wales_n except_o he_o shall_v have_v be_v bring_v up_o therein_o seven_o year_n at_o the_o least_o as_o apprentice_n in_o manner_n and_o form_n above_o say_v nor_o to_o set_v any_o person_n on_o work_n in_o such_o mystery_n art_n or_o occupation_n be_v not_o a_o workman_n at_o this_o day_n except_o he_o shall_v have_v be_v apprentice_n as_o be_v aforesaid_a or_o else_o have_v serve_v as_o a_o apprentice_n as_o be_v aforesaid_a shall_v or_o will_v become_v a_o jorneyman_n or_o be_v hire_v by_o the_o than_o such_o as_o be_v inhabit_v within_o the_o county_n of_o cumberland_n westmoreland_n lancaster_n and_o wales_n weave_v fryze_n cotton_n or_o houswyfes_n cloth_n only_o make_v and_o weave_v woollen_a cloth_n common_o sell_v or_o to_o be_v sell_v by_o any_o cloth_n man_n or_o clothear_v shall_v take_v and_o have_v any_o apprentice_n or_o shall_v teach_v or_o in_o any_o wise_n instruct_v any_o person_n or_o person_n in_o the_o science_n art_n or_o occupation_n of_o weavinge_v aforesaid_a in_o any_o village_n town_n or_o place_n city_n town_n corporate_a and_o market_n town_n only_o except_v unless_o such_o person_n be_v his_o son_n or_o else_o that_o the_o father_n or_o mother_n of_o such_o apprentice_n or_o servant_n shall_v at_o the_o time_n of_o the_o take_n of_o such_o person_n or_o person_n to_o be_v a_o apprentice_n or_o servant_n or_o to_o be_v so_o instruct_v have_v land_n and_o tenemente_n or_o other_o hereditamente_n to_o the_o clear_a yearly_a value_n of_o three_o pound_n at_o the_o least_o of_o a_o estate_n of_o inheritance_n or_o frehold_v to_o be_v certify_v under_o the_o hand_n and_o seal_n of_o three_o justice_n of_o the_o peace_n of_o the_o shire_n or_o shire_n where_o the_o say_a land_n tenemente_n and_o other_o hereditamente_n do_v or_o shall_v lie_v the_o effect_n of_o the_o indenture_n to_o be_v register_v within_o three_o month_n authority_n aforesaid_a that_o all_o and_o every_o person_n or_o person_n that_o shall_v have_v three_o apprentice_n in_o any_o of_o the_o say_a craft_n mystery_n or_o occupation_n of_o a_o clothmaker_n fuller_n shereman_n wever_n tailor_n or_o shoemaker_n shall_v retain_v and_o keep_v one_o jorneyman_n and_o for_o every_o other_o apprentice_n above_o the_o number_n of_o the_o say_v three_o apprentice_n one_o other_o jorneyman_n upon_o pain_n for_o every_o default_n therein_o ten_o pound_n provide_v always_o that_o this_o act_n nor_o any_o thing_n therein_o contain_v shall_v not_o extend_v to_o prejudice_n or_o hinder_v any_o liberty_n heretofore_o grant_v by_o any_o act_n of_o parliament_n to_o or_o for_o the_o company_n and_o occupation_n of_o worsted_n maker_n and_o the_o county_n wherein_o the_o say_a refusal_n be_v or_o shall_v be_v make_v or_o of_o such_o householder_n inhabitinge_v in_o any_o city_n town_n corporate_a or_o market_n town_n to_o the_o mayor_n bailiff_n or_o head_n officer_n of_o the_o say_a city_n town_n corporat_fw-la or_o market_n town_n if_o any_o such_o refusal_n shall_v there_o be_v they_o shall_v have_v full_a power_n and_o authority_n by_o virtue_n hereof_o to_o send_v for_o the_o same_o person_n so_o refuse_v and_o if_o the_o say_a justice_n or_o the_o say_a mayor_n or_o head_n officer_n shall_v think_v the_o say_a person_n mete_v and_o convenient_a to_o serve_v as_o a_o apprentice_n in_o that_o art_n labour_n science_n or_o mystery_n wherein_o he_o shall_v be_v so_o then_o require_v to_o serve_v that_o then_o the_o say_a justice_n or_o the_o say_a mayor_n or_o head_n officer_n shall_v have_v power_n and_o auctoritye_n by_o virtue_n hereof_o if_o the_o say_a person_n refuse_v to_o be_v bind_v as_o a_o apprentice_n to_o commit_v he_o unto_o ward_n there_o to_o remain_v untyll_o he_o be_v content_v and_o will_v be_v bind_v to_o serve_v as_o a_o apprentice_n shall_v serve_v accord_v to_o the_o true_a intent_n and_o mean_v of_o this_o present_a act_n and_o if_o any_o such_o master_n shall_v mysuse_v or_o evil_n entreat_v his_o apprentice_n or_o that_o the_o say_a apprentice_n shall_v have_v any_o just_a cause_n to_o complain_v or_o the_o apprentice_n do_v not_o his_o duty_n to_o his_o master_n then_o the_o say_a master_n or_o apprentice_n be_v greve_v and_o have_v cause_n to_o complain_v shall_v repair_v unto_o one_o justice_n of_o peace_n within_o the_o say_a county_n or_o to_o the_o mayor_n or_o other_o head_n officer_n of_o the_o city_n town_n corporate_a market_n town_n or_o other_o place_n where_o the_o say_a master_n dwell_v who_o shall_v by_o his_o wysdome_n and_o discretion_n take_v such_o order_n and_o direction_n between_o the_o say_a master_n and_o his_o apprentice_n as_o the_o equity_n of_o the_o cause_n shall_v require_v and_o if_o for_o want_n of_o good_a conformity_n in_o the_o say_a master_n the_o say_a justice_n of_o the_o peace_n or_o the_o say_a mayor_n or_o head_n officer_n can_v not_o compound_v &_o agree_v the_o matter_n between_o he_o and_o his_o apprentice_n then_o the_o say_a justice_n or_o the_o say_a mayor_n or_o other_o head_n officer_n shall_v take_v band_n of_o the_o say_a master_n to_o appear_v at_o the_o next_o session_n then_o to_o be_v hold_v in_o the_o say_a county_n or_o within_o the_o say_a city_n town_n corporat_fw-la or_o market_n town_n to_o be_v before_o the_o justice_n of_o the_o say_a county_n or_o the_o mayor_n or_o head_n officer_n of_o the_o say_a town_n corporate_a or_o market_n town_n if_o the_o say_a master_n dwell_v within_o any_o such_o and_o upon_o his_o apparaunce_n &_o hear_v of_o the_o matter_n before_o the_o say_a justice_n or_o the_o say_a mayor_n or_o other_o head_n officer_n if_o it_o be_v think_v meet_a unto_o they_o to_o discharge_v the_o say_a apprentice_n of_o his_o apprenticehod_n that_o then_o the_o say_a justice_n or_o four_o of_o they_o at_o the_o least_o whereof_o one_o to_o be_v of_o they_o quorum_fw-la or_o the_o say_a mayor_n or_o other_o head_n officer_n with_o the_o consent_n of_o three_o other_o of_o his_o brethren_n or_o man_n of_o best_a reputation_n within_o the_o say_a city_n town_n corporate_a or_o market_n town_n shall_v have_v power_n by_o authority_n hereof_o in_o write_v under_o their_o hand_n and_o seal_n to_o pronounce_v and_o declare_v that_o they_o have_v discharge_v the_o
say_a apprentice_n of_o his_o apprenticehode_n and_o they_o cause_v thereof_o and_o the_o say_a writing_n so_o be_v make_v and_o enrol_v by_o the_o clerk_n of_o the_o peace_n or_o town_n clerk_n among_o the_o record_n that_o he_o keep_v shall_v be_v a_o sufficient_a discharge_n for_o the_o say_a apprentice_n against_o his_o master_n his_o executour_n and_o administratour_n the_o indenture_n of_o the_o say_a apprenticehode_n or_o any_o law_n or_o custom_n to_o the_o contrary_a notwithstanding_o and_o if_o the_o default_n shall_v be_v find_v to_o be_v in_o the_o apprentice_n than_o the_o say_a justice_n or_o the_o say_a mayor_n or_o other_o head_n officer_n with_o the_o assistentes_fw-la aforesaid_a shall_v cause_v such_o due_a correction_n &_o punishment_n to_o be_v minister_v unto_o he_o as_o by_o their_o wysdome_n and_o discretion_n shall_v be_v think_v mete_v provyde_v always_o and_o be_v it_o enact_v by_o authority_n of_o this_o present_a parlyament_n that_o no_o person_n shall_v by_o force_n or_o colour_n of_o this_o estatute_n be_v bind_v to_o enter_v into_o any_o apprenticeship_n other_o than_o such_o as_o be_v under_o the_o age_n of_o xxi_o year_n and_o to_o the_o end_n that_o this_o estatute_n may_v from_o time_n to_o time_n be_v careful_o diligent_o put_v in_o good_a execution_n according_a to_o the_o tenure_n and_o true_a meaning_n thereof_o be_v it_o enact_v by_o authority_n of_o this_o present_a parliament_n that_o the_o justice_n of_o peace_n of_o every_o county_n devide_v themselves_o into_o several_a lymitte_v and_o likewise_o every_o mayor_n and_o head_n officer_n of_o any_o city_n or_o town_n corporat_fw-la shall_v yearly_o between_o the_o feast_n of_o saint_n michael_n the_o archangel_n &_o the_o nativity_n of_o our_o lord_n and_o between_o the_o feast_n of_o the_o annunciation_n of_o our_o lady_n and_o the_o feast_n of_o the_o nativity_n of_o saint_n john_n the_o baptist_n by_o all_o such_o way_n &_o mean_n as_o to_o their_o wysdomes_n shall_v be_v think_v most_o meet_a make_v a_o special_a and_o diligent_a inquiry_n of_o the_o branch_n and_o article_n of_o this_o estatute_n and_o of_o the_o good_a execution_n of_o the_o same_o and_o where_o they_o shall_v find_v any_o defaulte_n to_o see_v the_o same_o severe_o correct_v and_o punish_v without_o favour_n affection_n malice_n or_o displeasure_n and_o in_o consideration_n of_o the_o pain_n and_o travel_n that_o the_o say_v justice_n of_o peace_n and_o the_o say_a mayor_n and_o head_n officer_n shall_v take_v and_o sustain_v in_o and_o about_o the_o execution_n of_o this_o estatute_n it_o be_v further_o ordain_v and_o enact_v by_o authority_n of_o this_o present_a parlyament_n that_o every_o justice_n of_o peace_n mayor_n or_o head_n officer_n for_o every_o day_n that_o he_o shall_v sit_v in_o &_o about_o the_o execution_n of_o this_o estatute_n shall_v have_v allow_v unto_o he_o fyve_o shyllinge_n to_o be_v allow_v and_o pay_v unto_o he_o or_o unto_o the_o say_a mayor_n or_o head_n officer_n of_o the_o fyne_n and_o forfeitour_n of_o the_o pain_n and_o penalty_n that_o shall_v be_v forfeit_v and_o due_a unto_o the_o queen_n majesty_n her_o heir_n or_o successor_n by_o force_n of_o this_o estatute_n in_o such_o manner_n and_o form_n as_o the_o say_a justice_n have_v be_v heretofore_o common_o pay_v for_o their_o come_n &_o charge_n at_o the_o quarter_n session_n so_o that_o the_o syt_n of_o the_o say_a justice_n or_o mayor_n or_o head_n officer_n be_v not_o at_o any_o one_o time_n above_o iii_o day_n and_o for_o the_o matter_n
