thereby_o humble_v they_o and_o prove_v they_o whether_o they_o will_v keep_v his_o commandment_n or_o no_o and_o so_o to_o know_v what_o be_v in_o their_o heart_n that_o be_v by_o this_o try_v of_o they_o to_o discover_v what_o be_v in_o their_o heart_n to_o wit_n the_o infidelity_n and_o inconstancy_n and_o stubbornness_n of_o their_o heart_n for_o indeed_o as_o the_o fire_n will_v try_v gold_n from_o brass_n so_o will_v affliction_n discover_v who_o heart_n be_v upright_o towards_o god_n and_o who_o be_v false-hearted_a and_o not_o such_o as_o in_o prosperity_n they_o seem_v to_o be_v and_o much_o vild_a corruption_n will_v show_v itself_o in_o trouble_n which_o before_o do_v never_o appear_v verse_n 3._o that_o he_o may_v make_v thou_o know_v that_o man_n do_v not_o live_v by_o bread_n only_o etc._n etc._n the_o meaning_n of_o this_o be_v that_o god_n bring_v they_o to_o want_v bread_n and_o then_o supply_v that_o want_n with_o manna_n from_o heaven_n that_o he_o may_v thereby_o teach_v they_o that_o though_o god_n have_v appoint_v bread_n and_o such_o like_a food_n to_o be_v the_o ordinary_a mean_n of_o sustain_a man_n life_n yet_o it_o be_v not_o that_o alone_a that_o do_v sustain_v man_n but_o the_o word_n that_o be_v the_o decree_n and_o command_v of_o god_n in_o so_o much_o that_o as_o bread_n can_v nourish_v we_o except_o god_n command_v a_o blessing_n on_o it_o so_o on_o the_o other_o side_n he_o can_v command_v any_o thing_n else_o to_o nourish_v we_o as_o well_o as_o bread_n as_o they_o have_v see_v in_o the_o manna_n wherewith_o god_n have_v say_v they_o many_o year_n yea_o he_o can_v keep_v man_n alive_a without_o food_n a_o long_a time_n together_o as_o he_o do_v moses_n elijah_n and_o our_o saviour_n christ_n whereupon_o he_o retort_v this_o place_n of_o scripture_n upon_o the_o devil_n when_o he_o tempt_v he_o to_o turn_v stone_n into_o bread_n mat._n 4._o 4._o verse_n 4._o thy_o raiment_n wax_v not_o old_a upon_o thou_o neither_o do_v do_v miraculous_o grow_v as_o â—â—â—ir_a body_n grow_v but_o there_o be_v no_o necessity_n of_o forge_v thus_o more_o miracle_n than_o be_v express_v and_o that_o because_o those_o that_o out-grew_a their_o garment_n may_v be_v supply_v with_o the_o garment_n of_o such_o as_o die_v in_o the_o wilderness_n and_o then_o the_o garment_n they_o leave_v off_o may_v serve_v those_o that_o grow_v to_o their_o stature_n the_o second_o be_v that_o their_o foot_n do_v not_o swell_v notwithstanding_o their_o continual_a travel_n &_o that_o because_o their_o sho_fw-mi es_fw-mi wax_v not_o old_a under_o which_o also_o some_o think_v be_v include_v the_o health_n of_o their_o body_n in_o general_a unless_o in_o case_n when_o they_o be_v extraordinary_o strike_v with_o sickness_n because_o of_o some_o rebellion_n against_o god_n to_o which_o they_o apply_v that_o of_o the_o psalmist_n there_o be_v not_o one_o feeble_a person_n among_o their_o tribe_n psal_n 105._o 37._o verse_n 5._o thou_o shall_v also_o consider_v in_o thy_o heart_n that_o as_o a_o man_n chasten_v his_o son_n so_o the_o lord_n thy_o god_n chasten_v thou_o that_o be_v out_o of_o love_n with_o a_o gentle_a hand_n and_o with_o sanctuary_n as_o be_v prophesy_v dan._n 9_o 26._o and_o pour_v upon_o the_o people_n his_o uttermost_a wrath_n 1._o thess_n 2._o 16._o verse_n 22._o when_o a_o prophet_n speak_v in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n if_o the_o thing_n follow_v not_o nor_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o be_v the_o thing_n which_o the_o lord_n have_v not_o speak_v that_o we_o may_v right_o understand_v the_o rule_n here_o give_v for_o the_o discovery_n oâ—_n false_a prophet_n we_o must_v note_v two_o thing_n first_o that_o it_o must_v be_v understand_v only_o of_o such_o prediction_n of_o prophet_n wherein_o they_o foretell_v some_o strange_a and_o miraculous_a thing_n thaâ—_n shall_v come_v to_o pass_v as_o a_o proof_n that_o they_o be_v true_o send_v from_o god_n for_o if_o these_o indeed_o camâ—_n not_o according_o to_o pass_v the_o people_n may_v be_v sure_a that_o they_o be_v false_a prophet_n and_o that_o god_n have_v noâ—_n send_v they_o but_o now_o in_o other_o prediction_n as_o in_o foretell_v some_o judgement_n or_o blessing_n that_o shall_v befall_v man_n that_o which_o they_o foretell_v may_v not_o come_v to_o pass_v and_o yet_o they_o that_o foretell_v these_o thing_n may_v be_v the_o true_a prophet_n of_o god_n for_o â—ll_a that_o for_o thus_o we_o know_v it_o be_v with_o the_o prophet_n isaiah_n when_o he_o tell_v hezekiah_n that_o he_o shall_v die_v of_o his_o sickâ—â—sse_n 2._o king_n 20._o 1._o and_o with_o jonah_n when_o he_o prophesy_v that_o after_o forty_o day_n niniveh_n shall_v be_v destroy_v jonah_n 3._o 4._o and_o the_o reason_n of_o this_o be_v because_o in_o all_o such_o prediction_n the_o people_n may_v know_v judge_v thereof_o by_o the_o know_a rule_n of_o god_n word_n that_o these_o be_v conditional_o foretell_v though_o the_o condition_n be_v not_o express_v and_o therefore_o that_o in_o case_n they_o repent_v god_n will_v not_o inflict_v the_o evil_n denounce_v against_o they_o and_o in_o case_n they_o be_v not_o obedient_a unto_o god_n he_o will_v hold_v back_o the_o blessing_n promise_v and_o second_o that_o though_o the_o not_o accomplish_v of_o sign_n foretell_v be_v make_v here_o a_o sure_a mark_n of_o false_a prophet_n yet_o we_o must_v not_o hence_o inâ—erre_v that_o on_o the_o contrary_a when_o sign_n foretell_v do_v according_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o be_v a_o infallible_a proof_n of_o true_a prophet_n for_o if_o they_o teach_v any_o thing_n contrary_a to_o the_o write_a word_n touch_v matter_n of_o faith_n and_o of_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n the_o people_n be_v to_o hold_v to_o the_o write_a word_n and_o not_o to_o believe_v they_o but_o to_o punish_v they_o as_o false_a prophet_n though_o they_o do_v confirm_v their_o say_n that_o do_v indeed_o come_v to_o pass_v as_o they_o be_v before_o teach_v deut._n 13._o 1_o 2._o etc._n etc._n but_o the_o prophet_n have_v speak_v it_o presumptuous_o to_o wit_n because_o he_o do_v so_o bold_o foretell_v that_o such_o a_o thing_n shall_v come_v to_o pass_v have_v no_o warrant_n for_o it_o from_o god_n &_o withal_o because_o it_o be_v indeed_o a_o high_a degree_n of_o arrogancy_n to_o father_n his_o fancy_n &_o lie_v upon_o the_o god_n of_o truth_n say_v that_o which_o he_o say_v and_o that_o indeed_o god_n have_v send_v he_o and_o though_o he_o threaten_v in_o never_o so_o horrible_a a_o manner_n all_o the_o curse_n he_o can_v devise_v if_o you_o do_v not_o believe_v he_o yet_o thou_o shall_v not_o be_v afraid_a of_o his_o brag_n and_o threaten_n nor_o fear_v to_o put_v he_o to_o death_n as_o god_n have_v appoint_v chap._n xix_o verse_n 2._o thou_o shall_v separate_v three_o city_n for_o thou_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o thy_o land_n etc._n etc._n that_o be_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o land_n for_o the_o land_n be_v divide_v into_o three_o part_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o each_o of_o these_o partition_n be_v a_o city_n of_o refuge_n choose_v moses_n have_v himself_o already_o assign_v they_o three_o city_n of_o refuge_n in_o the_o land_n without_o jordan_n which_o they_o have_v already_o vanquish_v deut._n 4._o 21._o and_o now_o he_o give_v order_n that_o when_o they_o have_v possess_v themselves_o of_o the_o land_n of_o canaan_n within_o jordan_n they_o shall_v there_o also_o set_v apart_o three_o city_n of_o refuge_n more_o verse_n 3._o thou_o shall_v prepare_v thou_o a_o way_n etc._n etc._n that_o be_v thou_o shall_v so_o order_v it_o that_o from_o all_o part_n of_o the_o country_n round_o about_o these_o city_n of_o refuge_n there_o be_v a_o direct_a plain_a fair_a highway_n or_o causey_n lead_v to_o those_o city_n and_o such_o as_o either_o by_o the_o breadth_n and_o fairness_n of_o the_o way_n or_o by_o mark_n set_v up_o purposely_o to_o distinguish_v it_o from_o other_o may_v be_v know_v to_o be_v the_o way_n lead_v to_o those_o city_n of_o refuge_n to_o the_o end_n the_o manslayer_n may_v not_o be_v hinder_v or_o encumber_a by_o the_o uncertainty_n or_o foulness_n of_o the_o way_n but_o may_v speedy_o fly_v thither_o and_o so_o be_v safe_a verse_n 4._o who_o so_o kill_v his_o neighbour_n ignorant_o etc._n etc._n the_o person_n here_o mention_v that_o be_v to_o enjoy_v the_o privilege_n of_o the_o city_n ofrefuge_n be_v only_o such_o as_o kill_v a_o man_n unwitting_o by_o chance-medley_n as_o we_o usual_o call_v it_o but_o by_o the_o rule_n of_o proportion_n we_o may_v probable_o conceive_v
