XXI 1 Eight and fourty cities given by lot out of the other tribes unto the Levitâ—s 43 God gave the land and rest to the Israelites according to his tromise THen came near the heads of the fathers of the Levites unto Eleazar the priest and unto Joshua the son of Nun and unto the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel 2 And they spake unto them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan saying * Nâ—mb â— â— The LORD commanded by the hand of Moses to give us cities to dwell in with the suburbs thereof for our cattel 3 And the children of Israel gave unto the Levites out of their inheritance at hte commandment of the LORD these cities their suburbs 4 And the lot came out for the families of the Kohathites and the children of Aaron the priest which were of the Levites had by lot out of the tribe of Judah and out of the tribe of Simeon and out of the tribe of Benjamin thirteen cities 5 And the rest of the children of Kohath had by lot out of the families of the tribe of Ephraim and out of the tribe of Dan and out of the half tribe of Manasseh ten cities 6 And the children of Gershon had by lot out of the families of the tribe of Issachar and out of the tribe Asher and out of the tribe of Naphtali and out of the half-tribe or Manasseh in Bashan thirteen cities 7 The children of Merari by their families had out of the tribe of Reuâ—en and out of the tribe of Gad and out of the tribe of Zebulun twelve cities 8 And the children of Israel gave by lot unto the Levites these cities with their suburbs as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses 9 ¶ And they gave out of the tribe of the children of Judah and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon these cities which are here †〈…〉 mentioned by name 10 Which the children of Aaron being of the families of the Ephraim 21 For they gave them Shechem with her suburbs in mount Ephraim to be a city of refuge for the slayer and Gezer with her suburbs 22 And Kibzaim with her suburbs and Beth-horon with her suburbs four cities 23 And out of the tribe of Dan Eltekeh with her suburbs Gibbethon with her suburbs 24 Ajalon with her suburbs Gath-rimmon with her suburbs four cities 25 And out of the half-tribe of Manasseh Tanach with her suburbs and Gath-rimmon with her suburbs two cities 26 All the cities were ten with their suburbs for the families of the children of Kohath that remained 27 ¶ And unto the children of Gershon of the families of the Levites out of the other half-tribe of Manasseh they gave Golan in Bashan with her suburbs to be a city of refuge for the slayer and Beeshterah with her suburbs two cities 28 And out of the tribe of Issachar Kishon with her suburbs Dabareh with her suburbs 29 Jarmuth with her suburbs En-gannim with her suburbs four cities 30 And out of the tribe of Asher Mishal with her suburbs Abdon with her suburbs 31 Helkath with her suburbs and Rehob with her suburbs four citâ—es 32 And our of the tribe of Naphtali Kedesh in Galilee with her suburbs to be a city of refuge for the slayer and Hamoth dor wâ—th her suburbs and Kartan with her suburbs three cities 33 All the cities of the-Gershonites according to their families were thirteen cities with their suburbs 34 ¶ And unto the families of the children of Merari the rest of the Levites out of the tribe of Zebulun Jokneam with her suburbs and Kartan with her suburbs 35 Dimnah with her suburbs Nahalal with her suburbs four cities 36 And out of the tribe of Reuben Bezer with her suburbs and Jahazah with her suburbs 37 Kedemoth with her suburbs and Mephaath with her suburbs four cities 38 And out of the tribe of Gad Ramoth in Gilead with her suburbs to be a city of refuge for the slayer and Mahanaim with her suburbs 39 Heshbon with her suburbs Jazer with her suburbs four cities in all 40 So all the cities for the children of Merari by their families which were remaining of the families of the Levites were by their lot twelve cities 41 All the cities of the Levites within the possession of the children of Israel were fourty and eight cities with their suburbs 42 These cities were every one with their suburbs round about them thus were all these cities 43 ¶ And the LORD gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers and they possessed it and dwelt therein 44 And the LORD gave them rest round about

XIII 1 The names of the men who were sent to search the land 17 Their instructions 21 Their acts 26 Their relation ANd the LORD spake unto Moses saying 2 Send thou men that they may search the land of Canaan which I give unto the children of Israel of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man every one a ruler among them 3 And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran all those men were heads of the children of Israel 4 And these were their names Of the tribe of Reuben Shammua the son of Zaccur 5 Of the tribe of Simeon Shaphat the son of Hori 6 Of the tribe of Judah Caleb the son of Jephunneh 7 Of the tribe of Issachar Igal the son of Joseph 8 Of the tribe of Ephraim Oshea the son of Nun. 9 Of the tribe of Benjamin Palti the son of Raphu 10 Of the tribe of Zebulun Gaddiel the son of Sodi 11 Of the tribe of Joseph namely of the tribe of Manasseh Gaddi the son of Susi 12 Of the tribe of Dan Ammiel the son of Gemalli 13 Of the tribe of Asher Sethur the son of Michael 14 Of the tribe of Naphtali Nahbi the son of Vophsi 15 Of the tribe of Gad Geuel the son of Machi 16 These are the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the land And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun Jehoshua 17 ¶ And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan and said unto them Get you up this way south-ward and go up into the mountain 18 And see the land what it is and the people that dwelleth therein whether they be strong or weak few or many 19 And what the land is that they dwell in whether it be good or bad and what cities they be that they dwell in whether in tents or in strong holds 20 And what the land is whether it be fat or lean whether there be wood therein or not And be ye of good courage and bring of the fruit of the land now the time was the time of the first-ripe-grapes 21 ¶ So they went up and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob as men come to Hamath 22 And they ascended by the south and came unto Hebron where Ahiman Sheshai and Talmai the children of Anak were now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt 23 * Deu. 1.24 And they came unto the ‖ Or valley brook of Eshcol and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes and they bare it between two upon a staff and they brought of the pomegranates and of the figs. 24 The place was called the ‖ Or valley brook ‖ That is a cluster of grapes Eshcol because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from thence 25 And they returned from searching of the land after fourty days 26 ¶ And they went and came to Moses and to Aaron and to all the congregation of the children of Israel unto
the wilderness of Paran to Kadesh and brought back word unto them and unto all the congregation and shewed them the fruit of the land 27 And they told him and said We came unto the land whither thou sentest us and surely it floweth with * Exod. 33.3 milk and honey and this is the fruit of it 28 Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land and the cities are walled and very great and moreover we saw the children of Anak there 29 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south and the Hittites and the Jebusites and the Amorites dwell in the mountains and the Canaanites dwell by the sea and by the coast of Jordan 30 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses and said Let us go up at once and possess it for we are well able to overcome it 31 But the men that went up with him said We be not able to go up against the people for they are stronger then we 32 And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel saying The land through which we have gone to search it is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof and all the people that we saw in it are †Heb. men of statures men of great stature 33 And there we saw the giants the sons of Anak which come of the giants and we were in our own sight as grashoppers and so we were in their sight CHAP. XIV 1 The people murmure at the news 6 Joshua and Caleb labour to still them 11 God threatneth them 13 Moses pershâ—adeth God and obtaineth pardon 26 The murmurers are deprived of entring into the land 36 The men who raised the evil report die by a plague 40 The people that would invade the land against the will of God are smitten ANd all the congregation lifted up their voice and cried and the people wept that night 2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron and the whole congregation said unto them Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt or would God we had died in this wilderness 3 And wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land to fall by the sword that our wives and our children should be a prey were it not better for us to return into Egypt 4 And they said one to another Let us make a captain and let us return into Egypt 5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel 6 ¶ And Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh which were of them that searched the land rent their clothes 7 And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel saying The land which we passed through to search it is an exceeding good land 8 If the LORD delight in us then he will bring us into this land and give it us a land which floweth with milk and honey 9 Onely rebel not ye against the LORD neither fear ye the people of the land for they are bread for us their †Heb. scadow defence is departed from them and the LORD is with us fear them not 10 But all the congregation bade stone them with stones and the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel 11 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses How long will this people provoke me and how long will it be ere they beleeve me for all the signs which I have shewed among them 12 I will smite them with the pestilence and disinherit them and will make of thee a great nation and mightier then they 13 ¶ And * Exod. 32.12 Moses said unto the LORD Then the Egyptians shall hear it for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them 14 And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land for they have heard that thou LORD art among this people that thou LORD art seen face to face and that * Exod. â—â— 21 thy cloud standeth over them and that thou goest before them by day-time in apillar of a cloud and in a pillar of fire by night 15 Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man then the nations which have heard the same of thee will speak saying 16 Because the LORD was not * Deut. 9.28 able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness 17 And now I beseech thee let the power of my Lord be great according as thou hast spoken saying 18 The LORD is * Ex. 34.6 Ps 103.8 long-suffering and of great mercy forgiving iniquity and transgression and by no means clearing the guilty * Ex. 20.5 and 34.7 visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation 19 Pardon I beseech thee the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy and as thou hast forgiven this people from Egypt even ‖ Or hitherto until now 20 And the LORD said I have pardoned according to thy word 21 But as truly as I live all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD 22 Because all those men which have seen my glory and my miracles which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness and have tempted me now these ten times and have not hearkned to my voice 23 †Heb. if they see the land Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers neither shall any of them that provoked me see it 24 But my servant * Josh 14.6 Caleb because he had another spirit with him and hath followed me fully him will I bring into the land whereinto he went and his seed shall possess it 25 Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley To morrow turn you and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea 26 ¶ And the LORD stake unto Moses and unto Aaron saying 27 How long shall I bear with this evil congregation which murmure against me I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel which they murmure against me 28 Say unto them * Ch. 26.65 and 32.11 Deu. 1.35 As truly as I live saith the LORD as ye have spoken in mine ears so will I do to you 29 Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness and all that were numbred of you according to your whole number from twenty years old and upward which have murmured against me 30 Doubtless ye shall not come into the land concerning which I †Heb. lifted up my hand sware to make you dwell therein save Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun. 31 But your little ones which ye said should be a prey them will I bring in and they shall know the land which ye have despised 32 But as for you your

Isa 36.1 c. these things and the establishment thereof Sennacherib king of Assyria came and entred into Judah and encamped against the fenced cities and thought †Heb. to break them up to win them for himself 2 And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was come and that †Heb. his face was to war he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem 3 He took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were without the city and they did help him 4 So there was gathered much people together who stopt all the fountains and the brook that †Heb. overflowed ran through the midst of the sand saying Why should the kings of Assyria come and finde much water 5 Also he strengthned himself built up all the wall that was broker and raise it up to the towers and another wall without repaired Millo in the city of David made ‖ Or swords or weapons darts and shields in abundance 6 And he set captains of war over the people and gathered them together to him in the street of the gate of the city and †Heb. spake to their heart spake comfortably to them saying 7 Be strong and couragious be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria nor for all the multitude that is with him for there be nâ—â— with us then with him 8 With him is an * Jer. 17.5 arm of flesh but with us is the LORD our God to help us and to fight our battels And the people †Heb. lâ—aned rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah 9 ¶ * 2 Kin. 18.17 After this did Sennacherib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem but he himself laid siege against Lachish and all his †Heb. dominion power with him unto Hezekiah king of Judah and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem saying 10 Thus saith Sennacherib king of Assyria Whereon do ye trust that ye abide ‖ Or in the strong hold in the siege in Jerusalem 11 Doth not Hezekiah perswade you to give over your selves to die by famine and by thirst saying The LORD our God shall deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria 12 Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars and commanded Judah and Jerusalem saying Ye shall worship before one altar and burn inâ—ense upon it 13 Know ye not what I and my fathers have done unto all the people of other lands were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of mine hand 14 Who was there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed that could deliver his people out of mine hand that your God should be able to deliver you out of mine hand 15 Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you not perswade you on this manner neither yâ—t beleeve him for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of mine hand and out of the hand of my fathers how much less shall your God deliver you out of mine hand 16 And his servants spake yet more against the LORD God and against his servant Hezekiah 17 He wrote also letters to rail on the LORD God of Israel and to speak against him saying As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of mine hand so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of mine hand 18 Then they cried with a loud voice in the Jews speech unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall to affright them and to trouble them that they might take the city 19 And they spake against the God of Jerusalem as against the gods of the people of the earth which weÌ„re the work of the hands of man 20 And for this cause Hezekiah the king and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz prayed and cried to heaven 21 ¶ * 2 Kin. 19.35 c. And the LORD sent an angel which cut off all the mighty men of valour and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria so he returned with shame of face to his own land And when he was come into the house of his god they that came forth of his own bowels †Heb. made him fall slew him there with the sword 22 Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria and from the hand of all other and guided them on every side 23 And many brought gifts unto the LORD to Jerusalem and †Heb. precious things presents to Hezekiah king of Judah so that he was magnified in the sight of all nations from thenceforth 24 ¶ * 2 Kin. 20.1 Isa 38.1 In those days Hezekiah was sick to the death and prayed unto the LORD and he spake unto him and he ‖ Or wrought a miracle for him gave him a signe 25 But Hezekiah rendred not again according to the benefit done unto him for his heart was lifted up therefore there was wrath upon him and upon Judah and Jerusalem 26 Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for †Heb. the lifting up the pride of his heart both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem so that the wrath of the LORD came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah 27 ¶ And Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honour and he made himself treasuries for silver and for gold and for precious stones and for spices and for shields and for all manner of †Heb. instrumâ—nts of desire pleasant jewels 28 Store-houses also for the increase of corn and wine and oyl and stalls for all manner of beasts and cotes for flocks 29 Moreover he provided him cities and possessions of flocks and
XV. 2 Wisdom embraceth those that fear God 7 The wicked shall not get her 11 We may not charge God with our faults 14 For be made and left us to our selves HE that feareth the Lord will do good and he that hath the knowledge of the law shall obtain her 2 And as a mother shall she meet him and receive him as a wife married of a virgin 3 With the bread of understanding shall she feed him and give him the water of wisdom to drink 4 He shall be stayed upon her and shall not be moved and shall relie upon her and shall not be confounded 5 She shall exalthim above his neighbours and in the midst of the congregation shall she open his mouth 6 He shall finde joy and a crown of gladness and she shall cause him to inherit an everlasting name 7 But foolish men shall not attain unto her and sinners shall not see her 8 For she is far from pride and men that are liars cannot remember her 9 ‖ Or a parable Praise is not seemly in the mouth of a sinner for ‖ Or be was not sent of c. it was not sent him of the Lord. 10 For ‖ Or rather a parable praise shall be uttered in wisdom and the Lord will prosper it 11 Say not thou It is through the Lord that I fell away for thou oughtest not to do the things that he hateth 12 Say not thou He hath caused me to err for he hath no need of the sinful man 13 The Lord hateth all abomination and they that fear God love it not 14 He himself * Gen. 1.26 made man from the beginning and left him in the hand of his counsel 15 If thou wilt to keep the commandments and to perform acceptable faithfulness 16 He hath set sire and water before thee stretch forth thy hand unto whether thou wilt 17 * Jer. 21.8 Before man is life and death and whether him liketh shall be given him 18 For the wisdom of the Lord is great and he is mighty in power and beholdeth all things 19 And * Psal 33.18 his eyes are upon them that fear him and he knoweth every work of man 20 He hath commanded no man to do wickedly neither hath he given any man licence to sin CHAP. XVI 1 It is better to have none then many lewd ebildren 6 The wicked are not spared for their number 12 Both the wrath and the mercy of the Lord are great 17 The wicked cannot be bid 20 Gods works are unsearchable DEsire not a multitude of unprofitable children neither delight in ungodly sons 2 Though they multiply rejoyce not in them except the fear of the Lord be with them 3 Trust not thou in their life neither respect their multitude for one that is just is better then a thousand and better it is to die without children then to have them that are ungodly 4 For by one that hath understanding shall the city be replenished but the ‖ Or tribe kindred of the wicked shall speedily become delolate 5 Many such things have I seen with mine eyes and mine ear hath heard greater things then these 6 * Ch. 21.9 In the congregation of the ungodly shall a fire be kindled and in a rebellious nation wrath ‖ Or hath been is set on fire 7 * Gen. 6 4. XII 1 A woman clothed with the sun travaileth 4 The great red dragon standeth before her ready to devour her childe 6 when she was delivered she fleeth into the wilderness 7 Michael and his angels fight with the dragon and prevail 13 The dragon being cast down into the earth persecuteth the woman ANd there appeared a great ‖ Or signe wonder in heaven a woman clothed with the sun and the moon under her feet and upon her head a crown of twelve stars 2 And she being with childe cried travailing in birth and pained to be delivered 3 And there appeared another ‖ Or signe wonder in heaven and behold a great red dragon having seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns upon his heads 4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven and did cast them to the earth and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered for to devour her childe assoon as it was born 5 And she brought forth a man-childe who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron and her childe was caught up unto God and to his throne 6 And the woman fled into the wilderness where she hath a place prepared of God that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days 7 And there was war in heaven Michael and his angels fought against the dragon and the dragon fought and his angels 8 And prevailed not neither was there place found any more in heaven 9 And the great dragon was cast out that
