second_o doctrine_n propound_v be_v that_o doctrine_n doctrine_n it_o be_v a_o commendable_a thing_n to_o take_v heed_n to_o the_o word_n to_o the_o which_o take_v heed_n you_o do_v well_o etc._n etc._n for_o what_o do_v our_o saviour_n so_o high_o commend_v mary_n in_o luke_n 10.42_o but_o because_o she_o have_v choose_v the_o good_a part_n that_o be_v attend_v upon_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n for_o the_o attain_n of_o salvation_n and_o for_o what_o be_v the_o beroean_n so_o high_o commend_v act_n 17.11_o but_o because_o they_o search_v the_o scripture_n etc._n etc._n reason_n reason_n and_o to_o hear_v and_o take_v heed_n to_o the_o word_n must_v needs_o be_v commendable_a first_o because_o it_o be_v a_o honest_a practice_n second_o because_o it_o be_v a_o godly_a practice_n three_o because_o it_o be_v and_o have_v be_v the_o practice_n of_o all_o saint_n from_o generation_n to_o generation_n use_v use_v this_o serve_v just_o to_o condemn_v the_o practice_n of_o they_o which_o rail_v against_o go_v to_o sermon_n against_o read_v god_n word_n and_o other_o holy_a duty_n these_o rail_a rabshachee_n shall_v consider_v that_o it_o be_v their_o duty_n rather_o to_o commend_v these_o practice_n second_o this_o may_v serve_v to_o teach_v we_o never_o to_o be_v ashamed_a of_o this_o practice_n of_o take_v heed_n to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n though_o all_o the_o world_n shall_v cast_v contempt_n upon_o it_o yet_o the_o thing_n in_o itself_o be_v true_o commendable_a three_o this_o may_v serve_v to_o encourage_v all_o such_o as_o give_v diligent_a heed_n to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n always_o provide_v that_o they_o be_v careful_a to_o follow_v two_o calling_n viz._n both_o their_o general_a call_n and_o also_o their_o particular_a a_o true_a christian_a must_v so_o hear_v as_o that_o he_o still_o have_v time_n to_o earn_v his_o own_o bread_n and_o he_o must_v so_o labour_v for_o thing_n necessary_a for_o this_o life_n as_o that_o still_o he_o have_v his_o religious_a hour_n every_o day_n to_o attend_v unto_o god_n word_n either_o read_v or_o preach_v you_o do_v well_o whence_o observe_v in_o the_o three_o place_n that_o doctrine_n doctrine_n it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o minister_n to_o encourage_v the_o people_n in_o their_o hear_n of_o god_n word_n by_o due_a commendation_n give_v unto_o they_o for_o the_o same_o thus_o do_v he_o commend_v the_o church_n of_o philadelphia_n for_o keep_v his_o word_n reason_n reason_n and_o there_o be_v good_a ground_n for_o it_o that_o a_o minister_n may_v and_o aught_o to_o commend_v the_o people_n for_o their_o diligent_a heed_n give_v unto_o the_o word_n as_o first_o because_o it_o may_v be_v a_o mean_n to_o encourage_v they_o in_o their_o zeal_n yea_o to_o make_v they_o more_o zealous_a second_o because_o it_o may_v be_v a_o mean_n to_o stir_v up_o other_o which_o be_v as_o yet_o negligent_a of_o the_o word_n to_o become_v zealous_a hearer_n of_o the_o same_o three_o because_o a_o minister_n shall_v hereby_o discharge_v a_o ministerial_a good_a duty_n to_o god_n though_o no_o success_n shall_v follow_v upon_o the_o same_o objection_n 1._o objection_n but_o some_o possible_o may_v object_v that_o it_o be_v not_o safe_a to_o commend_v god_n child_n for_o their_o well_o do_v lest_o they_o shall_v be_v puff_v up_o by_o our_o commendation_n answ_n answ_n i_o shall_v give_v alm_n he_o shall_v find_v some_o that_o will_v tax_v he_o for_o hypocrisy_n or_o if_o he_o preach_v earnest_o against_o sin_n some_o possible_o will_v say_v he_o be_v too_o busy_a or_o contentious_a but_o a_o minister_n in_o this_o case_n must_v pass_v very_o little_a to_o be_v judge_v of_o man_n judgement_n there_o be_v one_o which_o judge_v he_o which_o be_v the_o lord_n let_v a_o minister_n do_v that_o which_o be_v please_v to_o god_n though_o all_o the_o world_n shall_v censure_v he_o for_o it_o use_v use_v this_o may_v serve_v just_o to_o reprove_v too_o many_o minister_n which_o reprove_v people_n for_o take_v heed_n to_o the_o word_n think_v they_o to_o be_v too_o forward_o if_o they_o be_v zealous_a to_o hear_v but_o let_v such_o know_v it_o be_v their_o duty_n rather_o to_o commend_v such_o people_n and_o to_o bless_v god_n for_o they_o and_o to_o turn_v the_o edge_n of_o their_o reproach_n upon_o profane_a neglecter_n of_o the_o ordinance_n of_o god_n second_o this_o shall_v teach_v god_n people_n to_o give_v such_o heed_n unto_o the_o word_n and_o to_o be_v so_o diligent_a in_o hear_v and_o attend_v and_o to_o carry_v themselves_o so_o reverent_o in_o the_o house_n of_o god_n as_o that_o minister_n may_v have_v just_a cause_n to_o commend_v they_o and_o to_o rejoice_v of_o they_o every_o one_o can_v be_v content_a to_o be_v praise_v but_o how_o few_o be_v there_o which_o labour_n to_o deserve_v praise_n three_o this_o shall_v teach_v we_o to_o be_v thankful_a to_o our_o gracious_a god_n in_o that_o he_o be_v not_o only_o content_a to_o which_o be_v just_a and_o meet_v second_o this_o show_v how_o unjust_o zealous_a christian_n be_v reproach_v for_o their_o hear_n of_o god_n word_n for_o their_o read_n confer_v meditate_v and_o the_o like_a for_o what_o do_v they_o in_o this_o but_o that_o which_o be_v just_a and_o meet_v to_o be_v do_v three_o it_o show_v how_o unjust_o idle_a minister_n deal_v with_o the_o church_n of_o god_n in_o deprive_v it_o of_o god_n word_n through_o their_o wretched_a idleness_n these_o be_v like_a unto_o bad_a steward_n which_o keep_v back_o the_o appoint_a food_n from_o their_o fellow_n servant_n and_o so_o starve_v the_o family_n but_o let_v such_o remember_v that_o in_o mat._n 24.51_o that_o god_n will_v cut_v they_o asunder_o and_o give_v they_o their_o portion_n with_o hypocrite_n four_o it_o condemn_v the_o practice_n of_o the_o papist_n and_o their_o adherent_n which_o labour_n by_o all_o mean_n to_o suppress_v the_o powerful_a preach_n of_o god_n word_n and_o in_o stead_n thereof_o bring_v in_o their_o mass_n and_o their_o own_o tradition_n these_o deal_n unjust_o with_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o with_o god_n church_n these_o be_v they_o and_o such_o like_a which_o withhold_v the_o truth_n in_o unrighteousness_n rom._n 1.18_o and_o therefore_o woe_n will_v be_v unto_o they_o unless_o they_o repent_v five_o this_o may_v comfort_v god_n minister_n and_o god_n the_o foot_n of_o they_o which_o bring_v glad_a tiding_n be_v beautiful_a in_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o godly_a rom._n 10.15_o though_o they_o be_v odious_a to_o the_o ungodly_a though_o the_o athenian_a philosopher_n account_v paul_n but_o a_o trifler_n or_o a_o babbler_n act_v 17.18_o yet_o he_o be_v honour_v by_o other_o reason_n reason_n god_n people_n be_v enlighten_v to_o see_v how_o faithful_a preach_n bring_v glory_n to_o god_n and_o how_o it_o bring_v good_a to_o the_o church_n and_o how_o just_a a_o thing_n it_o be_v in_o itself_o they_o can_v look_v further_o into_o these_o mystery_n then_o unregenerate_a person_n can_v and_o therefore_o they_o have_v a_o better_a faculty_n to_o approve_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v excellent_a phil._n 1.10_o than_o other_o have_v objection_n objection_n but_o here_o it_o may_v be_v object_v do_v not_o many_o professor_n disapprove_v and_o speak_v evil_a of_o many_o a_o faithful_a ministry_n as_o well_o as_o the_o profaner_n sort_n and_o be_v not_o the_o apostle_n persecute_v by_o certain_a devout_a and_o honest_a woman_n act_n 13.50_o therefore_o it_o may_v seem_v that_o the_o faithful_a preach_n of_o god_n word_n be_v not_o so_o much_o as_o approve_v by_o the_o very_a church_n itself_o answ_n answ_n i_o answer_v i_o doubt_v not_o but_o that_o many_o of_o god_n people_n for_o a_o time_n may_v neglect_v and_o light_o esteem_v a_o powerful_a ministry_n be_v carry_v away_o with_o prejudicate_v opinion_n which_o they_o have_v of_o the_o person_n of_o the_o minister_n but_o certain_o god_n will_v reveal_v this_o unto_o they_o in_o time_n and_o then_o they_o will_v repent_v their_o prejudice_n second_o there_o be_v tare_n in_o the_o cornfield_n of_o god_n church_n as_o well_o as_o good_a corn_n therein_o be_v hypocritical_a professor_n as_o well_o as_o sincere_a worshipper_n and_o it_o be_v the_o brood_n of_o hypocrite_n especial_o which_o persecute_v god_n minister_n have_v itch_a ear_n and_o will_v not_o endure_v wholesome_a doctrine_n it_o be_v not_o the_o best_a sort_n of_o professor_n this_o put_v a_o manifest_a difference_n betwixt_o the_o child_n of_o god_n and_o other_o god_n child_n approve_v a_o powerful_a ministry_n other_o for_o the_o most_o part_n do_v not_o so_o use_v use_v second_o let_v it_o serve_v to_o stir_v up_o all_o that_o think_v themselves_o to_o be_v god_n child_n to_o approve_v themselves_o so_o by_o their_o approve_v thing_n excellent_a and_o by_o their_o stand_n for_o the_o same_o use_v use_v three_o let_v it_o be_v matter_n of_o comfort_n to_o god_n minister_n and_o people_n suppose_v that_o thy_o godly_a way_n and_o course_n be_v distaste_v by_o multitude_n of_o man_n of_o corrupt_a mind_n yet_o this_o may_v be_v thy_o comfort_n they_o be_v well_o approve_v of_o by_o they_o that_o be_v godly_a and_o by_o such_o as_o be_v true_o judicious_a i_o think_v observe_v here_o the_o apostle_n do_v not_o dissemble_v his_o judgement_n or_o thought_n but_o make_v it_o know_v what_o he_o think_v concern_v religious_a practice_n as_o concern_v the_o preach_n and_o write_v of_o god_n word_n and_o the_o like_a i_o think_v it_o a_o just_a thing_n whence_o we_o may_v learn_v this_o instruction_n viz._n that_o doctrine_n doctrine_n it_o be_v the_o part_n and_o duty_n of_o a_o true_a christian_a not_o to_o dissemble_v his_o religion_n but_o he_o ought_v to_o make_v manifest_a by_o his_o profession_n word_n and_o practice_n what_o he_o be_v for_o this_o we_o have_v many_o example_n in_o scripture_n as_o first_o the_o example_n of_o the_o religious_a
