join_v with_o he_o therein_o lest_o by_o so_o do_v they_o be_v draw_v in_o some_o petition_n that_o tend_v to_o heresy_n be_v for_o its_o prevail_a for_o this_o be_v consider_v of_o of_o old_a by_o the_o council_n of_o bracca_n a_o decree_n be_v thereby_o make_v against_o any_o minister_n use_v a_o prayer_n in_o the_o public_a place_n which_o be_v not_o first_o see_v by_o the_o council_n and_o allow_v second_o because_o every_o preacher_n be_v not_o alike_o guide_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o pray_v but_o some_o suppose_v that_o the_o excellency_n of_o pray_v lie_v in_o long_o pray_v will_v draw_v out_o their_o prayer_n in_o public_a to_o half_a a_o hour_n or_o a_o hour_n or_o more_o at_o a_o time_n till_o all_o or_o most_o of_o their_o hearer_n have_v their_o spirit_n tire_v and_o have_v their_o affection_n make_v to_o fag_n which_o if_o they_o do_v the_o minister_n pray_v be_v nothing_o to_o they_o but_o rather_o be_v turn_v into_o a_o occasion_n of_o offend_a god_n as_o all_o say_n of_o prayer_n without_o lift_v up_o the_o heart_n be_v and_o this_o long_a pray_n be_v so_o far_o from_o have_v any_o ground_n in_o scripture_n as_o that_o what_o be_v write_v there_o make_v against_o it_o because_o when_o christ_n teach_v his_o disciple_n to_o pray_v 6._o math._n 6._o he_o prescribe_v a_o short_a form_n and_o condemn_v long_o pray_v in_o many_o word_n and_o repetition_n of_o the_o same_o thing_n as_o vain_a babble_n 23._o math._n 23._o and_o hereby_o upbraid_v the_o pharisee_n hypocritical_a pray_v that_o they_o devour_v widow_n house_n and_o for_o which_o now_o general_o take_v with_o the_o people_n in_o most_o place_n that_o he_o have_v the_o most_o excellent_a gift_n in_o prayer_n that_o stand_v long_a in_o make_v his_o prayer_n other_o there_o be_v who_o prefer_v humane_a eloquence_n in_o pray_v and_o therefore_o fill_v their_o prayer_n with_o flower_n of_o rhetoric_n to_o the_o please_a of_o the_o ear_n of_o the_o hearer_n which_o be_v a_o way_n that_o neither_o christ_n the_o prophet_n or_o apostle_n have_v ever_o go_v in_o in_o pray_v last_o some_o minister_n have_v so_o poor_a a_o faculty_n in_o conceive_v a_o prayer_n that_o they_o be_v not_o able_a without_o a_o help_n to_o do_v this_o duty_n in_o so_o good_a a_o manner_n as_o it_o ought_v to_o be_v do_v thus_o to_o such_o as_o will_v be_v move_v by_o reason_n it_o be_v apparent_a that_o there_o shall_v be_v in_o our_o church_n form_n of_o godly_a prayer_n and_o thanksgiving_n to_o be_v common_o use_v by_o all_o minister_n and_o sometime_o of_o prayer_n proper_a to_o the_o present_a occasion_n if_o there_o be_v plague_n or_o pestilence_n or_o other_o infectious_a disease_n in_o the_o land_n if_o there_o be_v danger_n by_o the_o sword_n of_o the_o enemy_n or_o by_o civil_a war_n if_o there_o be_v famine_n or_o unseasonable_a weather_n too_o much_o rain_n or_o drought_n blast_n or_o mildew_n thunder_n lightning_n or_o tempest_n or_o murrain_n among_o cattle_n of_o many_o of_o which_o solomon_n speak_v in_o his_o divine_a prayer_n at_o the_o dedication_n of_o the_o temple_n which_o he_o build_v touch_v prayer_n common_o to_o be_v use_v every_o lord_n day_n they_o must_v begin_v with_o confession_n of_o sin_n and_o pray_v for_o pardon_n and_o mortification_n of_o sin_n in_o we_o and_o for_o faith_n to_o believe_v in_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n and_o grace_n to_o lead_v holy_a and_o new_a life_n and_o for_o a_o blessing_n upon_o the_o word_n wherein_o the_o congregation_n be_v then_o to_o be_v exercise_v in_o read_v and_o hear_v thereof_o that_o all_o may_v give_v diligent_a attention_n unto_o it_o hear_v it_o with_o fear_n and_o tremble_a and_o lay_v it_o up_o in_o their_o heart_n as_o mary_n do_v and_o live_v always_o in_o obedince_n to_o it_o in_o all_o thing_n and_o in_o pray_v we_o must_v remember_v all_o man_n the_o people_n of_o all_o country_n and_o nation_n such_o as_o already_o hold_v the_o true_a faith_n who_o be_v the_o church_n of_o christ_n that_o they_o may_v be_v preserve_v from_o all_o their_o enemy_n and_o establish_v as_o upon_o a_o rock_n against_o which_o the_o gate_n of_o hell_n may_v not_o prevail_v but_o fall_v as_o dagon_n do_v before_o the_o ark_n and_o such_o as_o know_v not_o christ_n that_o they_o may_v speedy_o be_v convert_v and_o that_o to_o this_o end_n the_o true_a light_n may_v rise_v up_o unto_o they_o and_o the_o christian_n who_o
