ordain_v 14.23_o the_o which_o presbyterial_a way_n of_o choice_n continue_v still_o in_o the_o church_n after_o the_o time_n that_o emperor_n and_o king_n be_v christian_a but_o not_o as_o at_o all_o and_o however_o at_o first_o before_o the_o people_n of_o any_o place_n or_o city_n be_v whole_o convert_v so_o as_o the_o jurisdiction_n can_v be_v entire_a under_o one_o church_n head_n they_o may_v well_o be_v distinguish_v under_o the_o notion_n of_o church_n and_o state_n as_o each_o may_v be_v under_o a_o separate_a authority_n yet_o when_o and_o where_o these_o power_n shall_v be_v unite_v then_o and_o there_o all_o election_n and_o jurisdiction_n in_o the_o one_o sort_n as_o well_o as_o the_o other_o must_v be_v hold_v dependent_a on_o this_o one_o supreme_a church_n head_n of_o confederacy_n then_o since_o the_o efficacy_n of_o ordination_n be_v the_o same_o to_o all_o of_o they_o there_o must_v be_v now_o among_o we_o as_o many_o man_n in_o apostolical_a power_n as_o there_o be_v man_n in_o order_n because_o ordination_n have_v its_o efficacy_n as_o primary_o inherent_a in_o the_o apostle_n it_o must_v follow_v that_o all_o those_o derive_v ordination_n must_v be_v equal_a one_o to_o another_o even_o as_o that_o fâ—rst_a act_n of_o ordination_n from_o the_o apostle_n receive_v be_v the_o same_o or_o equal_a to_o itself_o but_o of_o those_o that_o will_v set_v up_o a_o universal_a pope_n and_o of_o those_o that_o will_v set_v up_o a_o pope_n by_o this_o mean_n in_o every_o parish_n i_o will_v ask_v how_o far_o they_o will_v have_v their_o jurisdiction_n to_o extend_v if_o they_o say_v they_o have_v right_a to_o all_o the_o apostle_n have_v then_o have_v they_o right_a to_o command_v and_o be_v obey_v in_o all_o thing_n for_o such_o right_n have_v the_o apostle_n as_o shall_v be_v show_v anon_o if_o they_o say_v they_o have_v right_a to_o no_o more_o they_o be_v by_o then_o practise_v and_o so_o claim_v to_o succeed_v in_o the_o power_n of_o excommunication_n and_o church_n censure_n so_o far_o as_o to_o extend_v it_o to_o corporal_a punishment_n than_o they_o will_v have_v much_o ado_n to_o make_v this_o all_o one_o with_o a_o spiritual_a jurisdiction_n and_o censure_n the_o truth_n be_v that_o we_o must_v look_v on_o the_o apostle_n in_o their_o sentence_n of_o excommunication_n as_o punish_v man_n in_o the_o high_a measure_n they_o then_o can_v in_o regard_n of_o the_o engrosment_n of_o all_o coercive_a and_o vindicative_a power_n by_o the_o then_o pagan_a magistrate_n they_o live_v under_o and_o not_o as_o preach_v by_o which_o mean_v be_v continual_o strengthen_v in_o our_o work_n and_o labour_n of_o love_n 11_o we_o shall_v not_o be_v slothful_a but_o follower_n of_o they_o who_o by_o faith_n and_o patience_n inherit_v the_o promise_n and_o so_o also_o although_o prayer_n preach_v repentance_n fast_v etc._n etc._n nay_o the_o sacrament_n themselves_o be_v but_o ceremony_n compare_v to_o that_o final_a object_n of_o religion_n god_n praise_n and_o man_n salvation_n and_o be_v not_o in_o themselves_o fundamental_a yet_o since_o this_o love_n can_v never_o be_v to_o perfect_v in_o this_o life_n as_o not_o to_o put_v we_o in_o need_n of_o these_o help_n for_o apprehension_n of_o these_o divine_a truth_n and_o also_o to_o keep_v our_o mind_n fix_v and_o intent_n on_o our_o duty_n and_o his_o will_n that_o in_o the_o end_n we_o be_v not_o able_a to_o know_v what_o be_v true_o the_o one_o or_o the_o other_o nor_o be_v this_o crime_n and_o error_n of_o idolatry_n subject_n only_o to_o outward_a and_o bodily_a representation_n such_o as_o do_v usual_o accompany_v gentilism_n but_o inasmuch_o as_o honour_v and_o adoration_n be_v to_o be_v the_o end_n of_o our_o knowledge_n and_o because_o again_o the_o goodness_n and_o soundness_n of_o this_o adoration_n will_v take_v admeasurement_n and_o proportion_n from_o the_o truth_n and_o worth_n of_o that_o divine_a existence_n and_o perfection_n which_o be_v by_o each_o one_o conceive_v it_o must_v also_o follow_v that_o man_n be_v to_o be_v account_v more_o or_o less_o idolater_n as_o that_o image_n of_o god_n conceive_v in_o their_o mind_n be_v more_o or_o less_o true_o represent_v he_o for_o he_o be_v not_o to_o be_v perceive_v by_o any_o of_o our_o bodily_a sense_n or_o otherwise_o know_v to_o mankind_n then_o by_o the_o effect_n of_o his_o be_v to_o wit_n his_o goodness_n power_n wisdom_n justice_n and_o such_o operation_n as_o must_v proper_o denote_v he_o it_o must_v therefore_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o such_o as_o shall_v fail_v or_o mistake_v in_o the_o apprehension_n of_o these_o emanation_n and_o shall_v attribute_v unto_o he_o such_o work_n or_o way_n of_o energy_n as_o be_v neither_o worthy_a of_o he_o nor_o proportionable_a unto_o he_o be_v thereupon_o to_o be_v account_v idolatrous_a as_o for_o example_n such_o as_o have_v not_o right_o conceive_v and_o observe_v god_n in_o the_o work_v do_v and_o do_v not_o save_v be_v ready_a in_o a_o hasty_a partiality_n to_o themselves_o to_o judge_v he_o like_o one_o of_o the_o vulgar_a as_o exercise_v only_o his_o power_n and_o greatness_n in_o the_o act_n of_o election_n and_o reprobation_n and_o that_o not_o only_o in_o prejudice_n of_o his_o wisdom_n as_o be_v guide_v by_o no_o discrimination_n in_o the_o election_n of_o some_o before_o other_o but_o in_o prejudice_n of_o his_o goodness_n and_o justice_n as_o thereby_o reject_v other_o of_o equal_a merit_n and_o condition_n by_o which_o mean_v the_o image_n these_o man_n have_v conceive_v will_v come_v to_o be_v true_o a_o idol_n by_o have_v eye_n and_o see_v not_o etc._n etc._n and_o thereupon_o so_o much_o below_o even_o the_o vulgar_a because_o they_o in_o their_o sentence_n to_o life_n or_o punishment_n will_v have_v respect_n to_o merit_n or_o demerit_n so_o far_o as_o possible_o they_o can_v perceive_v or_o forefee_n they_o and_o not_o proceed_v therein_o as_o in_o a_o kind_n of_o lottery_n and_o as_o these_o and_o such_o like_a false_a representation_n must_v introduce_v idolatry_n within_o by_o mean_n of_o a_o short_a or_o unstable_a impression_n so_o when_o man_n come_v to_o adapt_v and_o proportion_v their_o outward_a service_n and_o worship_n it_o must_v also_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o the_o same_o must_v be_v defective_a false_a or_o frivolous_a and_o consequent_o so_o much_o more_o or_o less_o superstitious_a as_o they_o shall_v be_v more_o or_o less_o unknowing_a of_o god_n or_o his_o will_n and_o shall_v be_v therein_o only_o guide_v by_o particular_a fear_n and_o fancy_n upon_o which_o ground_n we_o may_v find_v reason_n why_o almighty_a god_n both_o in_o reference_n to_o his_o own_o honour_n and_o for_o estate_v man_n upright_a and_o blameless_a in_o their_o religious_a duty_n do_v always_o either_o himself_o appoint_v some_o establish_a form_n and_o rule_v therein_o or_o else_o authorize_v some_o person_n under_o he_o to_o do_v it_o and_o not_o leave_v it_o to_o the_o hazard_n of_o private_a and_o single_a man_n devotion_n whether_o to_o be_v do_v or_o no_o nor_o to_o their_o differ_a member_n yet_o do_v they_o differ_v as_o they_o stand_v in_o their_o oeconomy_n relate_v as_o minister_n and_o member_n in_o each_o particular_a church_n therefore_o we_o can_v conceive_v that_o all_o this_o serious_a discourse_n shall_v be_v literal_o take_v as_o drive_v at_o nothing_o but_o woman_n cover_n their_o head_n or_o of_o man_n be_v bareheaded_a in_o time_n of_o pray_v or_o prophesy_v head_n of_o each_o church_n and_o by_o woman_n the_o member_n thereof_o and_o most_o especial_o those_o of_o the_o clergy_n who_o be_v as_o wife_n to_o be_v direct_v herein_o by_o their_o husband_n and_o pray_v and_o prophesy_v we_o may_v understand_v put_v for_o the_o whole_a outward_a service_n that_o this_o be_v only_o parabolical_o speak_v of_o woman_n with_o intention_n that_o under_o the_o
