fasten_v the_o imputation_n of_o schism_n and_o heresy_n upon_o they_o but_o how_o far_o this_o be_v from_o what_o it_o seem_v to_o be_v let_v the_o reader_n judge_v when_o the_o mask_n be_v take_v off_o dr._n tillotson_n fundamental_a principle_n than_o be_v this_o whatever_o be_v plain_a and_o evident_a to_o our_o sense_n and_o reason_n be_v to_o be_v believe_v though_o all_o the_o church_n his_o own_o word_n be_v thus_o as_o i_o find_v they_o in_o the_o five_o volume_n of_o his_o sermon_n pag._n 16._o in_o all_o matter_n of_o faith_n and_o practice_n which_o be_v plain_a and_o evident_a either_o from_o natural_a reason_n or_o from_o divine_a revelation_n this_o resolution_n seem_v to_o be_v very_o reasonable_a but_o in_o thing_n doubtful_a a_o modest_a man_n and_o every_o man_n have_v reason_n to_o be_v so_o will_v be_v apt_a to_o be_v stagger_v by_o the_o judgement_n of_o a_o very_a wise_a man_n and_o much_o more_o of_o many_o such_o and_o especial_o by_o the_o unanimous_a judgement_n of_o the_o generality_n of_o men._n but_o in_o thing_n plain_o contrary_a to_o the_o evidence_n of_o sense_n or_o reason_n or_o the_o word_n of_o god_n a_o man_n will_v compliment_v no_o man_n or_o number_n of_o man_n nor_o will_v he_o pin_v his_o faith_n upon_o any_o church_n in_o the_o world_n much_o less_o upon_o any_o single_a man_n no_o not_o the_o pope_n no_o though_o there_o be_v never_o so_o many_o probable_a argument_n bring_v for_o the_o proof_n of_o his_o infallibility_n in_o this_o case_n a_o man_n will_v be_v singular_a and_o stand_v alone_o against_o the_o whole_a world_n against_o the_o wrath_n and_o rage_n of_o a_o king_n and_o all_o the_o terror_n of_o his_o fiery_a furnace_n as_o in_o other_o matter_n a_o man_n will_v not_o believe_v all_o the_o learned_a man_n in_o the_o world_n against_o the_o clear_a evidence_n of_o sense_n and_o reason_n if_o all_o the_o great_a mathematician_n of_o all_o age_n archimedes_n and_o euclid_n and_o apollonius_n and_o diophantus_n etc._n etc._n can_v be_v suppose_v to_o meet_v together_o in_o a_o general_n council_n and_o shall_v there_o declare_v in_o the_o most_o solemn_a manner_n and_o give_v it_o under_o their_o hand_n and_o seal_n that_o twice_o two_o do_v not_o make_v four_o but_o five_o this_o will_v not_o move_v i_o in_o the_o least_o to_o be_v of_o their_o mind_n nay_o i_o who_o be_o no_o mathematician_n will_v maintain_v the_o contrary_a and_o will_v persist_v in_o it_o without_o be_v in_o the_o least_o startle_v by_o the_o positive_a opinion_n of_o these_o learned_a man_n and_o by_o their_o authority_n but_o in_o my_o inward_a judgement_n i_o shall_v still_o be_v where_o i_o be_v before_o just_o so_o in_o matter_n of_o religion_n if_o any_o church_n though_o with_o never_o so_o glorious_a a_o pretence_n to_o infallibility_n shall_v declare_v for_o transubstantiation_n that_o be_v that_o the_o bread_n and_o wine_n in_o the_o sacrament_n by_o virtue_n of_o the_o prince_n peer_n magistrate_n together_o with_o the_o common_a people_n of_o all_o country_n and_o province_n of_o the_o west_n as_o also_o the_o greek_a church_n and_o all_o the_o country_n and_o province_n in_o communion_n with_o it_o all_o these_o learned_a and_o pious_a christian_n i_o say_v that_o flourish_v in_o and_o govern_v this_o part_n of_o the_o world_n when_o martin_n luther_n his_o right_a sense_n ever_o affirm_v that_o white_a be_v black_a or_o black_a white_a or_o that_o any_o of_o our_o sense_n when_o they_o be_v perfect_a do_v not_o give_v irrefragable_a testimony_n of_o their_o proper_a object_n or_o that_o plain_a and_o evident_a text_n of_o scripture_n be_v not_o to_o be_v believe_v these_o monstrous_a absurdity_n the_o dr._n fasten_v upon_o all_o the_o eminent_a and_o learned_a man_n of_o the_o eastern_a and_o western_a church_n which_o flourish_v not_o only_a when_o martin_n luther_n rise_v up_o but_o also_o by_o his_o own_o acknowledgement_n for_o transubstantiation_n as_o aforesaid_a if_o it_o be_v then_o so_o notorious_o contrary_a both_o to_o the_o sense_n and_o reason_n of_o mankind_n as_o the_o dr._n will_v suggest_v all_o those_o man_n whereof_o a_o great_a number_n have_v at_o least_o the_o reputation_n of_o be_v both_o learned_a and_o virtuous_a must_v necessary_o have_v be_v all_o of_o they_o out_o of_o their_o wit_n or_o bias_v from_o have_v any_o such_o evidence_n on_o his_o side_n that_o there_o be_v not_o one_o of_o all_o these_o point_n in_o which_o he_o instance_n but_o what_o be_v destitute_a of_o even_o the_o least_o
