by_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n as_o by_o the_o propitiatory_a sacrifice_n of_o the_o mass_n which_o be_v offer_v for_o the_o quick_a and_o for_o the_o dead_a for_o if_o christ_n make_v a_o perfect_a satisfaction_n for_o sin_n by_o his_o death_n upon_o the_o cross_n what_o need_v of_o repeat_v this_o sacrifice_n every_o day_n which_o represent_v the_o sacrifice_n of_o christ_n to_o be_v as_o imperfect_a as_o the_o sacrifice_n of_o the_o law_n which_o can_v not_o take_v away_o sin_n nor_o make_v the_o comer_n thereunto_o perfect_a and_o therefore_o be_v repeat_v again_o every_o year_n invent_v so_o many_o other_o way_n of_o satisfaction_n and_o whoever_o consider_v what_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n teach_v about_o the_o intercession_n of_o saint_n and_o angel_n and_o the_o virgin_n mary_n can_v hardly_o think_v that_o she_o do_v believe_v that_o there_o be_v but_o one_o mediator_n between_o god_n and_o man_n the_o man_n christ_n jesus_n but_o i_o need_v not_o enumerate_v many_o particular_n the_o truth_n of_o this_o be_v too_o evident_a and_o notorious_a the_o great_a question_n then_o be_v this_o whether_o such_o a_o church_n may_v be_v say_v to_o be_v guilty_a of_o fundamental_a error_n for_o this_o sound_n like_o a_o contradiction_n that_o a_o church_n which_o believe_v all_o the_o fundamental_a article_n of_o that_o christian_a faith_n shall_v yet_o be_v guilty_a of_o fundamental_a error_n and_o indeed_o if_o by_o fundamental_a error_n we_o mean_v such_o error_n as_o deny_v any_o fundamental_a article_n so_o it_o be_v plain_a that_o a_o church_n which_o own_v and_o profess_v all_o fundamental_o can_v be_v guilty_a of_o fundamental_a error_n but_o if_o by_o fundamental_a error_n we_o mean_v such_o error_n as_o contradict_v the_o fundamental_o of_o faith_n so_o she_o may_v be_v guilty_a of_o fundamental_a error_n because_o it_o be_v possible_a for_o a_o church_n to_o believe_v two_o doctrine_n which_o contradict_v each_o other_o when_o the_o contradiction_n be_v not_o in_o express_a term_n but_o consequential_a for_o all_o man_n or_o church_n do_v not_o see_v or_o will_v not_o own_o the_o immediate_a and_o necessary_a consequence_n of_o their_o own_o doctrine_n as_o may_v easy_o be_v observe_v among_o a_o great_a many_o other_o man_n beside_o those_o of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n and_o the_o use_n of_o this_o observation_n be_v very_o considerable_a upon_o many_o account_n but_o especial_o in_o our_o present_a dispute_n about_o catholic_n communion_n as_o will_v appear_v by_o consider_v 3._o how_o far_o and_o in_o what_o case_n we_o may_v communicate_v with_o such_o a_o church_n as_o believe_v all_o the_o fundamental_o of_o christian_a faith_n and_o yet_o teach_v such_o doctrine_n as_o in_o their_o immediate_a and_o necessary_a consequence_n overthrow_v foundation_n this_o be_v a_o very_a material_a difference_n between_o a_o church_n which_o deny_v any_o fundamental_a article_n of_o faith_n and_o a_o church_n which_o believe_v all_o fundamental_o but_o superadd_v some_o corrupt_a doctrine_n which_o in_o their_o consequence_n destroy_v foundation_n that_o the_o first_o be_v never_o capable_a of_o catholic_n communion_n because_o she_o deny_v catholic_n doctrine_n which_o be_v the_o necessary_a condition_n of_o catholic_n communion_n but_o the_o second_o in_o some_o case_n may_v be_v because_o she_o retain_v all_o save_a knowledge_n i._n e._n all_o which_o be_v of_o absolute_a necessity_n to_o salvation_n though_o intermix_v with_o dangerous_a error_n now_o to_o state_n this_o matter_n how_o far_o we_o may_v communicate_v with_o such_o a_o church_n as_o profess_v all_o the_o fundamental_a article_n of_o faith_n but_o yet_o superadd_v other_o very_a corrupt_a and_o dangerous_a doctrine_n we_o may_v consider_v these_o two_o thing_n 1._o i_o think_v i_o need_v not_o tell_v any_o man_n that_o we_o must_v not_o purchase_v the_o communion_n of_o such_o a_o church_n by_o profess_v our_o assent_n to_o any_o corrupt_a doctrine_n though_o it_o be_v not_o a_o fundamental_a error_n no_o one_o church_n ought_v thus_o to_o impose_v upon_o another_o nor_o do_v any_o church_n pretend_v to_o it_o but_o only_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n every_o church_n be_v bind_v to_o preserve_v she_o own_o faith_n as_o pure_a and_o perfect_a as_o she_o can_v but_o she_o have_v not_o in_o their_o natural_a consequence_n be_v very_o apt_a to_o tempt_v man_n to_o sin_n and_o to_o encourage_v they_o in_o it_o yet_o when_o withal_o they_o hearty_o believe_v all_o the_o fundamental_a doctrine_n of_o the_o christian_a faith_n this_o true_a faith_n be_v so_o direct_o contrary_a to_o the_o ill_a consequence_n of_o their_o error_n that_o they_o do_v not_o see_v the_o ill_a consequence_n of_o such_o doctrine_n or_o be_v sufficient_o antidote_v against_o the_o poison_n of_o they_o nay_o many_o time_n it_o so_o happen_v that_o man_n be_v so_o far_o from_o see_v the_o ill_a consequence_n of_o their_o doctrine_n that_o they_o draw_v only_o good_a consequence_n from_o they_o which_o may_v make_v they_o as_o good_a or_o better_a man_n than_o many_o be_v who_o have_v a_o better_a faith_n thus_o to_o instance_n at_o present_a in_o some_o very_a popular_a and_o prevail_a doctrine_n not_o dispute_v whether_o they_o be_v true_a or_o false_a the_o doctrine_n of_o absolute_a election_n and_o reprobation_n the_o inconditionality_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n the_o no-necessity_n of_o holiness_n to_o our_o justification_n the_o absolute_a impotency_n of_o humane_a nature_n to_o do_v the_o least_o good_a the_o irresistibility_n of_o the_o divine_a grace_n and_o such_o like_a antinomian_a doctrine_n be_v charge_v by_o their_o adversary_n with_o as_o dismal_a consequence_n as_o any_o doctrine_n be_v capable_a of_o even_o to_o the_o overthrow_n of_o all_o religion_n and_o i_o doubt_v not_o but_o have_v very_o ill_a effect_n upon_o man_n mind_n right_a or_o wrong_n for_o every_o practical_a error_n be_v a_o state_n of_o temptation_n and_o erroneous_a doctrine_n do_v often_o hinder_v the_o efficacy_n of_o a_o orthodox_n faith_n than_o a_o orthodox_n faith_n prevent_v the_o mischief_n of_o a_o erroneous_a persuasion_n as_o be_v lamentable_o see_v in_o the_o life_n of_o too_o many_o man_n but_o the_o only_a inference_n i_o draw_v from_o hence_o be_v this_o that_o every_o error_n though_o in_o itself_o of_o dangerous_a consequence_n be_v not_o a_o sufficient_a reason_n to_o deny_v communion_n to_o such_o a_o church_n as_o notwithstanding_o such_o error_n profess_v all_o the_o fundamental_a article_n of_o the_o christian_a faith_n if_o we_o can_v maintain_v communion_n with_o she_o without_o profess_v her_o error_n 2._o while_o the_o fundamental_a doctrine_n of_o faith_n be_v secure_a no_o corrupt_a doctrine_n be_v a_o sufficient_a reason_n to_o break_v communion_n which_o do_v not_o corrupt_v the_o christian_a worship_n the_o principal_a act_n of_o christian_a communion_n consist_v in_o christian_a worship_n and_o if_o any_o church_n have_v so_o corrupt_v divine_a worship_n that_o a_o good_a christian_a must_v not_o join_v in_o it_o we_o must_v of_o necessity_n abstain_v from_o their_o communion_n though_o we_o be_v not_o equal_o bind_v to_o deny_v they_o we_o for_o there_o be_v some_o fundamental_o of_o worship_n as_o well_o as_o faith_n as_o the_o worship_n of_o one_o god_n through_o one_o mediator_n jesus_n christ_n and_o when_o any_o church_n corrupt_v the_o worship_n of_o god_n in_o its_o vital_a and_o essential_a part_n as_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n do_v in_o the_o worship_n of_o saint_n and_o angel_n and_o the_o virgin_n mary_n and_o image_n and_o the_o consecrate_a host_n it_o be_v necessary_a then_o to_o withdraw_v ourselves_o from_o such_o a_o corrupt_a communion_n but_o then_o as_o for_o those_o doctrine_n which_o though_o they_o may_v be_v corrupt_a and_o erroneous_a be_v neither_o fundamental_a error_n nor_o introduce_v any_o such_o fundamental_a corruption_n into_o religious_a worship_n i_o can_v see_v no_o imaginable_a reason_n why_o they_o shall_v break_v communion_n between_o neighbour_n church_n if_o no_o church_n must_v communicate_v with_o each_o other_o which_o do_v not_o exact_o agree_v in_o all_o the_o dispute_n and_o controversy_n of_o religion_n it_o will_v be_v hard_a to_o find_v any_o two_o church_n in_o the_o world_n that_o can_v maintain_v this_o christian_a communion_n certain_o catholic_n communion_n require_v we_o to_o communicate_v with_o all_o those_o church_n with_o who_o we_o can_v communicate_v without_o sin_n and_o therefore_o when_o a_o church_n deny_v no_o fundamental_a article_n of_o faith_n nor_o corrupt_v the_o christian_a worship_n in_o any_o fundamental_a and_o essential_a part_n of_o it_o nor_o require_v we_o to_o believe_v any_o doctrine_n which_o we_o believe_v to_o be_v erroneous_a as_o the_o necessary_a term_n of_o communion_n with_o she_o that_o be_v when_o we_o may_v communicate_v with_o she_o without_o do_v any_o thing_n that_o be_v evil_a nothing_o can_v justify_v our_o breach_n of_o communion_n as_o for_o instance_n i_o take_v the_o lutheran_n doctrine_n of_o consubstantiation_n to_o be_v a_o very_a great_a error_n and_o if_o they_o shall_v deny_v communion_n to_o i_o unless_o i_o will_v profess_v my_o belief_n of_o it_o i_o shall_v judge_v it_o a_o sufficient_a reason_n to_o withdraw_v communion_n from_o they_o yet_o if_o no_o such_o condition_n be_v impose_v on_o i_o i_o will_v make_v no_o scruple_n to_o communicate_v with_o they_o because_o though_o consubstantiation_n be_v a_o error_n yet_o it_o do_v not_o corrupt_v their_o worship_n as_o the_o doctrine_n of_o transubstantiation_n do_v the_o worship_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n the_o lutheran_n church_n observe_v the_o institution_n of_o our_o saviour_n without_o any_o idolatrous_a worship_n of_o the_o host_n their_o doctrine_n make_v no_o change_n in_o their_o worship_n and_o therefore_o can_v be_v no_o reason_n to_o withdraw_v our_o communion_n the_o error_n of_o any_o church_n can_v make_v its_o communion_n sinful_a unless_o they_o make_v its_o worship_n so_o be_v transubstantiation_n itself_o as_o absurd_a a_o doctrine_n as_o it_o be_v a_o mere_a speculation_n without_o any_o influence_n upon_o worship_n do_v the_o church_n of_o rome_n strict_o observe_v the_o institution_n of_o our_o saviour_n in_o celebrate_v the_o lord_n supper_n without_o either_o take_n from_o it_o or_o add_v a_o new_a idolatrous_a worship_n to_o it_o they_o may_v enjoy_v their_o opinion_n if_o they_o please_v so_o they_o will_v let_v i_o enjoy_v i_o and_o i_o will_v not_o break_v with_o they_o mere_o upon_o this_o score_n nothing_o can_v be_v vain_a than_o to_o dream_v of_o reconcile_a all_o the_o dispute_n of_o christendom_n and_o of_o make_v all_o man_n or_o all_o church_n of_o a_o mind_n in_o every_o thing_n and_o if_o catholic_n communion_n can_v be_v maintain_v among_o church_n of_o a_o different_a belief_n and_o persuasion_n in_o some_o controvert_v point_n we_o must_v never_o hope_v for_o any_o such_o thing_n and_o if_o it_o may_v be_v our_o only_a inquiry_n be_v what_o difference_n and_o variety_n of_o opinion_n be_v consistent_a with_o catholic_n communion_n and_o i_o know_v no_o in_o all_o the_o fundamental_o of_o christian_a faith_n and_o essential_o of_o worship_n those_o animosity_n indeed_o which_o the_o heat_n of_o disputation_n occasion_n too_o often_o not_o only_o between_o private_a man_n but_o christian_a church_n set_v they_o at_o a_o much_o great_a distance_n from_o each_o other_o than_o the_o most_o distant_a opinion_n but_o yet_o that_o this_o be_v practicable_a to_o maintain_v christian_a communion_n notwithstanding_o this_o variety_n of_o opinion_n be_v evident_a not_o only_o from_o the_o intrinsic_a reason_n of_o the_o thing_n but_o from_o manifest_a experience_n we_o know_v how_o many_o sect_n there_o be_v in_o the_o jewish_a church_n especial_o those_o two_o famous_a sect_n of_o the_o pharisee_n and_o
such_o a_o people_n for_o the_o neglect_n or_o change_v of_o it_o if_o ever_o god_n will_v have_v do_v this_o we_o may_v most_o reasonable_o expect_v it_o under_o the_o jewish_a oeconomy_n in_o
