same_o body_n and_o its_o member_n 1_o cor._n 12._o v._n 12._o to_o the_o end_n of_o the_o chapter_n and_o this_o now_o in_o spite_n of_o humane_a reason_n i_o must_v believe_v to_o be_v the_o unity_n of_o one_o man_n but_o if_o we_o let_v that_o pass_v what_o will_v our_o author_n have_v from_o all_o this_o similitude_n upon_o my_o reputation_n i_o do_v know_v i_o wish_v he_o will_v tell_v i_o where_o he_o live_v in_o his_o next_o book_n that_o i_o may_v wait_v upon_o his_o worship_n to_o know_v his_o pleasure_n in_o it_o for_o by_o what_o he_o have_v here_o say_v i_o can_v only_o guess_v at_o it_o but_o i_o suppose_v his_o drift_n be_v this_o that_o by_o virtue_n of_o this_o similitude_n it_o appear_v that_o the_o err_a part_n of_o the_o church_n though_o it_o be_v in_o actual_a and_o wilful_a error_n be_v still_o a_o member_n of_o the_o church_n and_o therefore_o not_o guilty_a of_o schism_n but_o i_o be_o very_o much_o mistake_v if_o i_o can_v convince_v any_o rational_a man_n of_o the_o quite_o contrary_a and_o that_o from_o the_o very_a same_o similitude_n for_o suppose_v the_o err_a part_n in_o the_o metaphor_n viz._n the_o wife_n shall_v err_v and_o stray_v from_o her_o husband_n bed_n to_o another_o man_n and_o shall_v therefore_o be_v divorce_v from_o her_o husband_n who_o then_o sir_n do_v you_o think_v will_v be_v guilty_a of_o the_o breach_n of_o the_o unity_n in_o marriage_n the_o man_n or_o his_o wife_n if_o you_o must_v be_v force_v to_o say_v the_o wife_n be_v guilty_a of_o it_o will_v not_o the_o same_o thing_n hold_v in_o the_o err_a part_n of_o the_o church_n viz._n that_o if_o any_o shall_v wilful_o run_v away_o from_o the_o church_n and_o disobey_v its_o law_n and_o unite_v itself_o to_o a_o quite_o contrary_a assembly_n that_o if_o he_o be_v excommunicate_v for_o it_o it_o be_v his_o own_o fault_n and_o therefore_o he_o be_v guilty_a of_o the_o schism_n and_o not_o the_o church_n i_o be_o almost_o quite_o tire_v with_o his_o similitude_n his_o whole_a book_n consist_v so_o of_o they_o as_o one_o will_v think_v he_o never_o aim_v at_o solid_a argument_n but_o only_o at_o something_o like_o argument_n for_o nothing_o can_v be_v prove_v by_o a_o similitude_n they_o be_v at_o best_a but_o good_a explication_n but_o no_o demonstration_n but_o however_o i_o must_v follow_v he_o to_o make_v short_a work_n therefore_o with_o the_o rest_n of_o they_o take_v from_o the_o member_n of_o the_o body_n which_o by_o the_o by_o i_o apprehend_v to_o be_v the_o unity_n of_o one_o man_n though_o our_o author_n but_o just_a now_o tell_v we_o that_o the_o unity_n of_o the_o church_n be_v not_o compare_v to_o the_o unity_n of_o one_o man_n the_o sum_n of_o all_o these_o similitude_n be_v nothing_o more_o than_o this_o that_o if_o any_o member_n of_o the_o body_n be_v dead_a or_o gangreen_v or_o have_v any_o infectious_a distemper_n that_o may_v endanger_v the_o rest_n of_o the_o body_n if_o it_o be_v not_o to_o be_v cure_v it_o must_v be_v cut_v off_o but_o if_o they_o be_v small_a distemper_n as_o the_o itch_n though_o very_o infectious_a yet_o we_o will_v rather_o endure_v scratch_v the_o itchy_a part_n then_o cut_v it_o off_o but_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n i_o pray_v you_o sir_n be_v it_o not_o because_o it_o may_v be_v otherwise_o cure_v and_o because_o if_o a_o member_n be_v cut_v off_o from_o the_o body_n it_o similitude_n prove_v ought_v not_o to_o be_v spare_v so_o that_o let_v the_o crime_n be_v never_o so_o small_a if_o it_o be_v accompany_v with_o contumacy_n the_o person_n deserve_v excommunication_n be_v cut_v off_o can_v restore_v it_o again_o safe_a and_o sound_a to_o the_o same_o place_n it_o have_v before_o from_o whence_o we_o may_v see_v how_o deceitful_a a_o way_n it_o be_v to_o argue_v from_o similitude_n wherefore_o this_o gentleman_n must_v pardon_v i_o if_o i_o tell_v he_o that_o i_o can_v but_o suspect_v a_o design_n of_o deceit_n in_o that_o author_n who_o most_o common_a argument_n be_v metaphor_n six_o the_o next_o object_n against_o he_o he_o say_v p._n 44._o be_v pride_n and_o vanity_n this_o he_o cast_v off_o with_o so_o much_o contempt_n and_o scorn_n that_o he_o heresy_n by_o the_o weakness_n of_o their_o understanding_n for_o say_v he_o pag._n 4._o they_o be_v neither_o hurtful_a to_o themselves_o nor_o other_o but_o hold_v sir_n i_o beseech_v you_o i_o not_o and_o of_o wilful_a schism_n and_o heresy_n as_o for_o that_o which_o our_o author_n say_v that_o to_o rely_v upon_o the_o church_n be_v to_o add_v perpetuity_n and_o universality_n to_o our_o error_n it_o be_v nothing_o at_o all_o to_o we_o of_o the_o church_n of_o england_n since_o i_o be_o sure_a the_o worst_a of_o her_o enemy_n can_v accuse_v she_o of_o enjoin_v the_o belief_n of_o any_o error_n if_o they_o can_v let_v they_o do_v it_o and_o i_o will_v promise_v they_o if_o it_o can_v be_v answer_v full_o and_o satisfactory_o to_o any_o unprejudiced_a judgement_n i_o myself_o will_v give_v they_o public_a thanks_o for_o their_o information_n if_o they_o can_v accuse_v she_o of_o any_o error_n in_o all_o her_o doctrine_n certain_o it_o must_v be_v a_o piece_n of_o the_o great_a folly_n not_o to_o say_v contumacy_n to_o continue_v in_o a_o wilful_a breach_n of_o her_o communion_n the_o second_o objection_n which_o he_o endeavour_v to_o hit_v off_o be_v the_o frailty_n uncertainty_n and_o disproportion_n of_o divine_a truth_n to_o our_o understanding_n etc._n etc._n pag._n 5_o 6._o i_o shall_v not_o quarrel_v with_o he_o as_o to_o the_o main_a of_o his_o answer_n to_o this_o objection_n but_o i_o can_v agree_v with_o he_o in_o say_v as_o he_o do_v that_o every_o man_n soul_n have_v in_o itself_o so_o much_o light_n as_o be_v requisite_a for_o our_o travel_n towards_o heaven_n pag._n 5._o for_o this_o i_o apprehend_v to_o be_v downright_a pelagianism_n a_o heresy_n long_o since_o condemn_v by_o saint_n augustine_n and_o the_o concur_v vote_n of_o the_o whole_a church_n or_o if_o it_o be_v not_o pelagianism_n sure_o i_o be_o it_o be_v a_o much_o worse_a heresy_n if_o not_o the_o very_a renounce_n of_o christianity_n what_o luck_n the_o gentleman_n have_v to_o excuse_v the_o heresy_n just_a in_o the_o last_o paragraph_n since_o he_o fall_v into_o it_o himself_o in_o this_o god_n help_v the_o weakness_n of_o his_o understanding_n but_o perhaps_o he_o will_v tell_v we_o that_o he_o do_v not_o believe_v it_o a_o heresy_n notwithstanding_o it_o be_v condemn_v by_o the_o church_n or_o contrary_a to_o the_o christian_a religion_n but_o sir_n command_v every_o man_n to_o do_v all_o the_o good_a he_o can_v to_o every_o man_n and_o propose_v infinite_a and_o eternal_a reward_n to_o those_o that_o obey_v it_o that_o forbid_v all_o manner_n of_o evil_n towards_o any_o man_n under_o pain_n of_o the_o great_a most_o inevitable_a and_o eternal_a torment_n and_o make_v not_o the_o least_o allowance_n for_o the_o least_o of_o evil_n either_o in_o thought_n word_n or_o deed_n have_v we_o not_o see_v the_o peaceable_a effect_n of_o our_o church_n and_o her_o doctrine_n in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o late_a miserable_a war_n among_o we_o for_o not_o one_o true_a son_n of_o the_o church_n of_o england_n can_v ever_o be_v force_v by_o the_o fear_n of_o penalty_n or_o ever_o be_v allure_v by_o the_o hope_n of_o reward_n to_o take_v up_o arm_n
