for_o the_o office_n and_o work_n of_o a_o true_a bishop_n as_o the_o apostle_n say_v *_o 1._o he_o that_o desire_v the_o office_n of_o a_o bishop_n desire_v a_o worthy_a work_n which_o be_v principal_o to_o feed_v the_o flock_n of_o god_n as_o also_o ‡_o 2._o peter_n exhort_v for_o they_o look_v not_o to_o the_o duty_n but_o after_o the_o dignity_n as_o chrysostome_n and_o ‡_o ber._n bernard_n have_v note_v of_o old_a thou_o see_v say_v bernard_n all_o ecclesiastical_a zeal_n to_o boil_v and_o pant_v aftâ—r_n their_o dignity_n only_o etc._n etc._n as_o we_o note_v before_o beside_o this_o i_o say_v it_o be_v a_o thing_n impossible_a for_o they_o to_o feed_v the_o flock_n of_o god_n for_o some_o of_o they_o have_v four_o or_o five_o hundred_o flock_n within_o their_o diocese_n some_o moreâ—_n some_o less_o which_o they_o never_o once_o in_o all_o their_o life_n bestow_v one_o fother_a upon_o only_o the_o prelate_n in_o his_o triennial_a visitation_n that_o be_v once_o in_o 3._o year_n visit_n perhaps_o half_a a_o dozen_o church_n where_o he_o come_v not_o to_o feed_v the_o flockâ—_z with_o one_o scrap_n of_o a_o sermon_n but_o to_o fill_v his_o pouch_n with_o his_o poor_a minister_n double_a procuration_n and_o his_o paunch_n with_o their_o good_a cheer_n but_o our_o prelate_n will_v answer_v as_o our_o non-resident_n do_v in_o that_o case_n that_o though_o themselves_o do_v not_o feed_v the_o flock_n yet_o their_o curate_n doâ—_n it_o for_o they_o for_o say_v our_o prelate_n and_o that_o according_a to_o their_o collect_n for_o bishop_n and_o curate_n all_o the_o minister_n in_o their_o several_a diocese_n be_v their_o curate_n to_o feed_v so_o many_o flock_n thus_o by_o this_o reckon_n the_o prelate_n be_v the_o most_o egregious_a non-resident_n of_o all_o other_o and_o thus_o we_o see_v how_o not_o only_o unlike_a but_o direct_o contrary_a all_o prelate_n be_v to_o those_o bishop_n of_o the_o church_n of_o ephesus_n and_o that_o in_o all_o and_o every_o of_o those_o particular_a and_o remarkable_a respect_n forespecify_v out_o of_o the_o apostle_n own_o word_n and_o therefore_o by_o that_o place_n of_o scripture_n prelate_n though_o they_o have_v usurp_v most_o unjust_o the_o title_n of_o bishop_n yet_o they_o have_v nothing_o in_o they_o of_o true_a bishop_n indeed_o and_o therefore_o be_v never_o able_a to_o prove_v that_o they_o be_v bishop_n jure_fw-la divino_fw-la for_o they_o which_o be_v bishop_n jure_fw-la divino_fw-la be_v lawful_a pastor_n set_v over_o their_o particular_a flock_n to_o feed_v the_o same_o with_o the_o wholesome_a food_n of_o the_o word_n but_o prelate_n call_v themselves_o diocesan_n bishop_n have_v so_o many_o flock_n as_o they_o neither_o do_v nor_o ever_o be_v able_a nor_o ever_o intend_v to_o feed_v they_o nay_o instead_o of_o feed_v they_o they_o restrain_v and_o inhibit_v all_o minister_n to_o feed_v their_o flock_n at_o all_o in_o the_o afternoon_n on_o the_o lord_n day_n nor_o at_o any_o time_n to_o feed_v they_o with_o sound_n and_o wholesome_a and_o comfortable_a fâ—od_n of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o grace_n and_o god_n free_a love_n to_o his_o elect_a in_o give_v christ_n for_o they_o effectual_o to_o redeem_v they_o and_o certain_o to_o bring_v they_o to_o that_o eternal_a glory_n in_o heaven_n which_o god_n from_o all_o eternity_n have_v predestinate_v they_o unto_o so_o as_o without_o this_o sound_a preach_n of_o grace_n no_o flock_n can_v be_v save_o feed_v prelate_n therefore_o be_v wolf_n to_o destroy_v not_o shepherd_n to_o feed_v the_o flock_n of_o christ_n a_o second_o place_n of_o scripture_n prove_a a_o presbyter_n and_o a_o bishop_n to_o be_v all_o one_o in_o order_n call_v and_o office_n be_v in_o tit._n 1._o 5._o etc._n etc._n for_o this_o cause_n say_v the_o apostle_n to_o titus_n i_o leave_v thou_o in_o crete_n that_o thou_o shall_v set_v in_o order_n the_o thing_n that_o be_v want_v and_o ordain_v elder_n in_o every_o city_n as_o i_o have_v appoint_v thou_o if_o any_o be_v blameless_a etc._n etc._n for_o a_o bishop_n must_v be_v blâ—melesse_a as_o the_o steward_n of_o god_n not selfe-willedâ—_z etc._n etc._n here_o again_o we_o plain_o see_v that_o those_o who_o be_v the_o presbyter_n or_o pastor_n set_v over_o the_o flock_n of_o god_n be_v here_o call_v bishop_n by_o the_o apostle_n whence_o in_o be_v evident_a that_o in_o the_o infancy_n of_o the_o christian_a church_n in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o apostle_n themselves_o and_o that_o by_o order_n from_o christ_n and_o from_o the_o holy_a ghost_n all_o presbyter_n or_o true_a pastor_n of_o severalâ—congregations_n as_o aforesaid_a be_v call_v bishop_n or_o overseer_n as_o the_o greek_a word_n signify_v and_o this_o be_v kâ—ta_n poâ—n_a in_o every_o city_n and_o town_n in_o crete_n especial_o where_o there_o be_v a_o congregation_n of_o christian_n titus_n be_v appoint_v by_o the_o apostle_n to_o ordain_v such_o elder_n or_o bishop_n and_o in_o century_n we_o read_v â—ow_n in_o some_o country_n there_o be_v never_o a_o town_n or_o village_n but_o it_o have_v a_o bishop_n in_o it_o which_o bishop_n be_v the_o pastor_n there_o and_o the_o several_a quality_n require_v in_o those_o presbyter_n or_o bishop_n be_v in_o the_o same_o chapter_n set_v down_o by_o the_o apostle_n which_o because_o we_o touch_v before_o upon_o occasion_n i_o will_v not_o here_o insist_v upon_o but_o those_o quality_n be_v such_o as_o our_o prelate_n willing_o leave_v to_o those_o poor_a presbyter_n
