that_o reward_n which_o in_o another_o life_n be_v bestow_v upon_o the_o righteous_a yet_o the_o wicked_a shall_v live_v eternal_o q._n what_o shall_v then_o be_v the_o difference_n betwixt_o the_o godly_a and_o the_o ungodly_a in_o this_o respect_n a._n the_o godly_a shall_v live_v to_o all_o eternity_n in_o unspeakable_a joy_n and_o never_o fade_a glory_n and_o the_o wicked_a shall_v live_v eternal_o or_o they_o shall_v remain_v alive_a in_o soul_n &_o body_n to_o endure_v the_o torment_n to_o be_v inflict_v upon_o they_o by_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n for_o all_o the_o sin_n commit_v by_o they_o whilst_o they_o be_v in_o the_o body_n q._n do_v you_o think_v that_o it_o be_v enough_o bare_o to_o believe_v all_o these_o article_n of_o your_o faith_n a._n as_o i_o be_o bind_v to_o believe_v they_o so_o it_o be_v my_o duty_n to_o frame_v my_o practice_n answerable_a to_o this_o my_o belief_n so_o that_o i_o must_v not_o only_o know_v what_o these_o word_n signify_v but_o likewise_o i_o must_v perform_v such_o action_n as_o be_v agreeable_a thereto_o q._n be_v this_o all_o that_o your_o baptismal_a vow_n and_o promise_n require_v from_o you_o a._n no_o it_o not_o only_o enjoin_v i_o to_o believe_v all_o the_o article_n of_o the_o christian_a faith_n but_o also_o i_o be_o thereby_o bind_v to_o keep_v god_n holy_a will_n and_o commandment_n and_o to_o walk_v in_o the_o same_o all_o the_o day_n of_o my_o life_n q._n when_o be_v these_o commandment_n give_v a._n god_n speak_v they_o to_o moses_n upon_o mount_n sinai_n who_o write_v they_o upon_o table_n visible_a sign_n and_o the_o inward_a spiritual_a grace_n q._n why_o be_v the_o one_o part_n in_o these_o sacrament_n namely_o water_n in_o baptism_n and_o bread_n and_o wine_n in_o the_o lord_n supper_n term_v outward_a and_o visible_a sign_n a._n they_o be_v term_v outward_a and_o visible_a in_o regard_n they_o be_v apparent_a to_o our_o sense_n no_o eye_n but_o see_v they_o and_o they_o be_v call_v sign_n because_o they_o be_v resemblance_n of_o some_o high_a thing_n signify_v or_o specify_v some_o favour_n that_o by_o they_o be_v confer_v upon_o mankind_n a._n wherefore_o be_v the_o other_o part_n of_o these_o sacrament_n style_v a_o inward_a and_o spiritual_a grace_n a._n it_o be_v term_v inward_a invisible_a because_o it_o be_v not_o to_o be_v discern_v by_o the_o eye_n of_o man_n but_o it_o be_v represent_v to_o we_o by_o these_o sign_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v call_v a_o grace_n because_o the_o benefit_n that_o by_o these_o sacrament_n be_v make_v over_o unto_o we_o proceed_v from_o the_o mere_a grace_n and_o mercy_n of_o god_n through_o je-christ_n our_o lord_n q._n what_o be_v the_o outward_a visible_a form_n or_o sign_n in_o baptism_n a._n water_n wherein_o the_o person_n baptise_a be_v dip_v or_o sprinkle_v with_o it_o in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o father_n of_o the_o son_n and_o of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n q._n what_o analogy_n or_o proportion_n do_v this_o outward_a sign_n water_n bear_v to_o the_o thing_n signify_v a._n very_o much_o baptism_n be_v the_o wash_n away_o of_o sin_n and_o therefore_o the_o outward_a wash_n in_o water_n do_v very_o fit_o represent_v the_o inward_a wash_n of_o our_o soul_n both_o from_o the_o guilt_n and_o spot_n of_o sin_n in_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n q._n wherefore_o be_v baptism_n administer_v in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o father_n of_o the_o son_n and_o of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n a._n this_o be_v do_v for_o divers_a weighty_a reason_n first_o that_o the_o congregation_n may_v know_v that_o what_o the_o minister_n do_v he_o do_v not_o of_o or_o from_o himself_o but_o by_o commission_n and_o good_a authority_n even_o by_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o whole_a trinity_n second_o this_o be_v do_v for_o sin_n and_o a_o new_a birth_n unto_o righteousness_n which_o you_o say_v be_v the_o inward_a grace_n give_v you_o in_o baptism_n a._n by_o a_o death_n unto_o sin_n i_o mean_v a_o get_n out_o of_o the_o power_n and_o from_o under_o the_o guilt_n and_o punishment_n of_o sin_n and_o by_o a_o new_a birth_n unto_o righteousness_n i_o mean_v a_o deny_v all_o our_o former_a ungodliness_n and_o worldly_a lust_n and_o a_o live_a sober_o righteous_o and_o godly_a in_o this_o present_a evil_a world_n q._n but_o how_o be_v baptism_n a_o mean_n of_o work_v this_o in_o we_o and_o a_o pledge_n to_o assure_v we_o thereof_o a._n in_o regard_n in_o baptism_n there_o be_v that_o measure_n of_o strength_n give_v we_o by_o christ_n as_o will_v enable_v we_o to_o get_v out_o of_o that_o servile_a dangerous_a condition_n notwithstanding_o before_o the_o administration_n of_o this_o sacrament_n we_o be_v in_o a_o state_n of_o sin_n and_o child_n of_o wrath_n that_o be_v have_v strong_a inclination_n and_o violent_a propension_n to_o evil_a yet_o hereby_o we_o be_v make_v child_n of_o grace_n that_o be_v be_v endow_v with_o a_o sufficiency_n of_o power_n and_o strength_n to_o walk_v as_o child_n of_o light_n q._n what_o be_v require_v of_o person_n to_o be_v baptize_v a._n repentance_n whereby_o they_o forsake_v sin_n and_o faith_n whereby_o they_o steadfast_o believe_v the_o promise_n of_o god_n make_v to_o they_o in_o that_o sacrament_n q._n why_o be_v repentance_n a_o necessary_a qualification_n to_o baptism_n a._n in_o regard_n we_o then_o change_v our_o condition_n we_o be_v receive_v from_o a_o estate_n of_o wrath_n into_o a_o estate_n of_o grace_n and_o favour_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v requisite_a we_o shall_v change_v our_o mind_n after_o their_o disposition_n &_o inclination_n as_o also_o this_o grace_n be_v necessary_a because_o it_o dispose_v we_o and_o make_v we_o capable_a of_o the_o mercy_n in_o baptism_n q._n what_o be_v repentance_n a._n repentance_n be_v a_o turn_n from_o sin_n to_o god_n and_o it_o be_v such_o a_o sincere_a repentance_n as_o this_o that_o be_v require_v before_o baptism_n q._n the_o other_o qualification_n be_v faith_n wherein_o lie_v the_o necessity_n of_o this_o grace_n to_o dispose_v we_o for_o baptism_n a._n it_o lie_v in_o this_o because_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n have_v not_o their_o effect_n upon_o we_o unless_o they_o be_v accept_v by_o we_o and_o it_o be_v faith_n only_o that_o can_v apply_v they_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o those_o who_o partake_v of_o this_o sacrament_n shall_v by_o faith_n believe_v the_o promise_n of_o god_n make_v to_o they_o in_o that_o sacrament_n q._n why_o then_o be_v infant_n baptise_a when_o by_o reason_n of_o their_o tender_a year_n they_o can_v perform_v these_o condition_n that_o be_v they_o can_v repent_v and_o believe_v a._n because_o they_o promise_v the_o performance_n of_o both_o these_o by_o their_o surety_n which_o promise_n when_o they_o come_v at_o age_n themselves_o be_v bind_v to_o perform_v q._n but_o what_o power_n have_v the_o church_n of_o god_n to_o administer_v this_o sacrament_n to_o infant_n mere_o upon_o the_o engagement_n of_o other_o for_o the_o performance_n of_o these_o condition_n a._n herein_o the_o church_n follow_v the_o example_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n who_o command_v young_a child_n to_o be_v bring_v unto_o he_o when_o by_o reason_n of_o their_o tender_a year_n they_o be_v uncapable_a of_o come_v themselves_o and_o although_o they_o can_v not_o in_o that_o capacity_n by_o any_o act_n of_o their_o own_o dispose_v themselves_o for_o his_o favour_n yet_o he_o take_v they_o up_o in_o his_o arm_n as_o minister_n do_v infant_n lay_v his_o hand_n upon_o they_o as_o the_o minister_n do_v water_n and_o bless_v they_o as_o his_o minister_n pray_v over_o they_o and_o for_o they_o and_o our_o saviour_n affirm_v that_o of_o such_o be_v the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n that_o be_v those_o who_o do_v not_o receive_v it_o as_o little_a child_n that_o be_v with_o innocence_n without_o any_o let_v or_o hindrance_n can_v enter_v into_o it_o and_o in_o conformity_n to_o this_o great_a exemplar_n the_o church_n admit_v infant_n in_o regard_n they_o be_v part_n of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n that_o be_v to_o they_o it_o belong_v into_o the_o covenant_n of_o the_o gospel_n by_o set_v on_o the_o seal_n of_o it_o baptism_n when_o they_o be_v not_o in_o a_o capacity_n themselves_o actual_o to_o repent_v and_o believe_v q._n but_o suppose_v infant_n do_v not_o perform_v this_o promise_n make_v on_o their_o behalf_n when_o they_o come_v at_o age_n a._n then_o they_o forfeit_v that_o grace_n give_v in_o baptism_n for_o baptism_n be_v a_o covenant_n wherein_o god_n make_v
