also_o the_o great_a argument_n use_v to_o this_o day_n by_o the_o author_n of_o the_o discourse_n about_o liturgy_n and_o other_o against_o a_o form_n of_o prayer_n impose_v the_o present_a liturgy_n or_o service-book_n and_o the_o significant_a rite_n or_o ceremony_n of_o the_o church_n as_o be_v reducible_a to_o no_o command_n i_o shall_v desire_v serious_o that_o what_o i_o now_o offer_v to_o scripture_n such_o book_n as_o be_v not_o holy_a scripture_n viz._n out_o of_o the_o apocrypha_n i_o must_v confess_v here_o be_v some_o appearance_n in_o those_o day_n of_o so_o do_v by_o the_o misunderstanding_n the_o sense_n of_o the_o rubric_n next_o after_o the_o order_n for_o the_o read_n of_o the_o psalm_n because_o of_o these_o word_n the_o order_n how_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o holy_a scripture_n beside_o the_o psalter_n be_v appoint_v to_o be_v read_v some_o chapter_n by_o the_o same_o rubric_n be_v appoint_v to_o be_v read_v out_o of_o the_o apocrypha_n from_o thence_o i_o conceive_v be_v gather_v the_o objection_n as_o aforesaid_a sect._n 21._o but_o who_o ever_o shall_v serious_o consider_v of_o it_o will_v find_v it_o to_o be_v weak_a and_o groundless_a there_o be_v scarce_o any_o point_n in_o difference_n between_o we_o and_o the_o papist_n so_o strong_o follow_v as_o this_o about_o apocrypha_n which_o by_o the_o church_n of_o england_n be_v deny_v to_o be_v canonical_a scripture_n and_o therefore_o it_o can_v be_v imagine_v they_o shall_v appoint_v it_o to_o be_v read_v as_o any_o part_n or_o portion_n of_o god_n bless_a book_n article_n this_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o 6._o article_n to_o be_v the_o rule_n of_o faith_n now_o this_o must_v be_v clear_o prove_v otherwise_o the_o objection_n against_o subscription_n signify_v nothing_o for_o the_o read_n only_o of_o the_o apocrypha_n or_o any_o part_n thereof_o that_o be_v not_o sinful_a be_v no_o where_n forbid_v nay_o be_v read_v in_o the_o public_a congregation_n sometime_o for_o matter_n of_o instruction_n the_o author_n thereof_o be_v account_v wise_a and_o holy_a man_n in_o their_o generation_n be_v warrantable_a and_o that_o by_o the_o practice_n of_o the_o primitive_a church_n for_o i_o find_v quote_v by_o bishop_n jewel_n that_o long_o before_o popery_n these_o book_n of_o apocrypha_n be_v read_v in_o the_o public_a congregation_n cyprian_n in_o expositione_n symboli_fw-la say_v he_o alii_fw-la libri_fw-la sunt_fw-la qui_fw-la non_fw-la sunt_fw-la canonici_fw-la like_a st._n hierom_n in_o praefat._n salomoni_fw-la say_v the_o like_a sed_fw-la ecclesiasti_fw-la appellantur_fw-la etc._n etc._n &_o huius_fw-la ordinis_fw-la est_fw-la libellus_fw-la tobiae_fw-la &_o judith_n &_o machabaeorum_n and_o these_o be_v call_v ecclesiasti_fw-la because_o that_o they_o be_v allow_v to_o be_v read_v in_o church_n sect._n 22._o so_o that_o it_o appear_v the_o very_a book_n that_o mr._n nicholls_n except_v against_o as_o tobit_n and_o judith_n among_o the_o rest_n these_o be_v allow_v to_o be_v read_v in_o church_n so_o many_o hundred_o year_n since_o and_o it_o be_v observable_a the_o distinction_n that_o father_n there_o make_v will_v help_v we_o out_o of_o this_o very_a scruple_n these_o portion_n of_o the_o apocrypha_n appoint_v to_o be_v read_v they_o be_v ecclesiastical_a but_o not_o canonical_a book_n and_o therefore_o as_o we_o may_v lawful_o in_o the_o public_a congregation_n read_v the_o writing_n of_o any_o wise_a and_o good_a man_n so_o may_v we_o any_o portion_n of_o the_o apocrypha_n especial_o consider_v i_o find_v they_o not_o enjoin_v to_o be_v read_v but_o upon_o one_o lord_n day_n but_o at_o such_o time_n when_o very_a few_o come_v to_o hear_v they_o and_o also_o to_o do_v be_v not_o where_o forbid_v in_o the_o sacred_a scripture_n and_o therefore_o to_o subscribe_v that_o they_o may_v be_v lawful_o read_v and_o ro_o promise_v to_o read_v the_o same_o be_v not_o contrary_a to_o god_n word_n sect._n 23._o i_o come_v now_o to_o the_o next_o place_n to_o consider_v the_o second_o great_a instance_n why_o no_o universal_a subscription_n to_o all_o he_o 39_o article_n because_o that_o in_o this_o book_n it_o be_v ascribe_v to_o imposition_n of_o hand_n at_o the_o confirmation_n of_o child_n and_o matrimony_n to_o be_v sign_n and_o seal_n of_o the_o covenant_n which_o be_v proper_a to_o the_o sacrament_n etc._n etc._n pag._n 26._o concern_v which_o shall_v there_o not_o be_v a_o very_a great_a mistake_n it_o will_v doubtless_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n yea_o to_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o church_n of_o england_n who_o strong_o affirm_v against_o the_o seven_o popish_a sacrament_n that_o christ_n have_v institute_v but_o two_o viz._n baptism_n and_o the_o lord_n supper_n that_o therefore_o this_o mistake_n may_v appear_v i_o desire_v the_o proof_n of_o this_o instance_n may_v be_v well_o weigh_v pag._n 25._o plea_n in_o the_o rubric_n before_o confirmation_n it_o be_v affirm_v that_o confirmation_n be_v administer_v to_o they_o that_o be_v baptize_v that_o by_o imposition_n of_o hand_n and_o prayer_n they_o may_v receive_v strength_n and_o defence_n against_o all_o temptation_n to_o sin_n second_o in_o the_o latter_a prayer_n of_o consecration_n it_o be_v say_v that_o after_o the_o example_n of_o the_o holy_a apostle_n they_o lay_v their_o hand_n upon_o they_o to_o certify_v they_o by_o this_o
